Eee! My first one! :)
Number 20: Courting AU.
It’s more of an annoyance to see the basket of apples laid out on his table now, than the confusion and panic that had been present the first time fruit of any sort had been put there.
Sparrow, clearly, is the sort of man that refuses to abide by any sort of societal rules and chooses to see a ‘mate’ in any person he wishes to.
Taking a slow breath, James walks toward the table, removing his wig and outer jacket as he does before heading over to the window to close it. The apples look tempting, really. Red, juicy, and in an abundance here that taking just one won’t be noticed will it -
No. If he divulges, he’s only encouraging Sparrow, and the fact that the man had been here, in his home, should make his blood boil, not make him want to smile privately and eat away at the courtship gifts presented to him like this.
But … maybe just one? A bite even.
“And I shall look at temptation, and tell temptation to rot,” Sparrow para-phrases atrociously from behind him, hidden in the shadows, beside his bed and James doesn’t even want to bother turning around to face him but he still does, “Still rooting for you mate. Have a bite.”
"Not on your life Sparrow.” But the both of them catch the twitch of his lips, and he knows he’s losing this game before it’s even begun.
