#FrogFriday: tadpole bowls!

Sikyatki Ware bowls w/tadpole motifs Ancestral Pueblo, Arizona, 1400-1625CE

While frog iconography can be found in many cultures around the world, the Southwest Culture Area is one of the few I've found where tadpoles also regularly appear. I'll be featuring these two pieces in my presentation on frog iconography in the Pacific NW & American SW at SECAC2023 next week!

hi omg what is the blue glaze you used on the inside of the frog mug???? I am SALIVATING OVER IT

it's actually a couple glazes! It's 3 coats of Amaco's Obsidian on the inside with thick vertical stripes of Amaco's Seaweed. (I don’t have enough memory to remember that so my pottery notes are obsessive)

If you're looking for amazing glaze combos, and you don’t have the means/interest in mixing your own, I really do recommend Amaco Potter's Choice glazes, you can get some really amazing combos.

I’m not sponsored by amaco or anything lol I just like their glazes and underglazes

I only have one piece for sale atm that’s JUST amaco glazes but I do really like it

that’s Lustrous Jade and Seaweed, with Ancient Copper on the rim

I've been seeing a lot of people tagging my work as ceramics so feel like I have to clarify that I use air-drying clay and my work is unfired.

Threw a really nice little bowl tonight! It's the first thing I've thrown that I didn't fuck up in some way halfway through and need to creatively salvage. When done, I'm going to give this to my bachelor pal Paul, who recently casually mentioned he owns no bowls.

I applied to volunteer at my local animal shelter, and the orientation is on April 1st, and I'm gonna get to work with DOGS and I have never been more delighted in my life

#very sad that i have to wait a month before orientation but itll be worth it #ill only be able to do it for 1.5 months tho because then im going to CAMP #holy shit i hadnt realized camp was that soon oh boy #im not prepared. dont tell mt bosses but im not prepared #i used to woek in handicraft. handicraft! art and pottery and metalwork and shit like that #i dont know any basic scout skills. i worked in the gayest area in camp #now i work at trailblazer #trailblazer is for teaching new scouts basic scout skills #how to use a knife. how to build a fire. how to do knots and lashings. i dont know how to do knots and lashings!!!!!!!#i dont know any of this shit and i have to teach most of it to myself #some of my friends said 'if you dont know how to do something just make your staff do it'#and yes i will have them do some of those things because theyre just better at it than me #but i still need to know all of it. im the director. i should know how to do all of it #im excited for this new experience. i am. but its also a little terrifying and i dont feel prepared #okay dont worry about that. think of the dogs. think of the dogs

i always loved the idea that toru is super crafty. she loves to paint, she’s constantly stealing scraps from the other kids and even sometimes the junkyard to make a crafts project, she’s really good at chalk art,,, she’s an artist and a great one at that.

#she does crafts with the other kids too #sero does a lot of origami and paper based crafts so they’ll do a lot of those together #pony does pottery and toru insisted she teach her how #plus her mina and ocha use one of the extra rooms on the girls side of the dorm to make a little area for clothes making and painting #since ocha sews and mina customizes a lot of clothing #and then ofc toru paints :)#my hero posting #toru hagakure #my hero academia #mha #boku no hero academia #bnha #mha headcanons
