The old Helena can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, because she’s dead.
Previous / Next
Thanks to @pxltown for the Social Bunny template I used as a base! HQ under the cut because I had to scrunch the dimensions a bit for the screenshot.
Julia: What am I supposed to tell Mom and Dad?
Helena: Whatever you want. I’m sure you’ll think of something.
Julia: You can’t just run off without telling them goodbye  — or telling me where you’re going!
Julia: [between sobs] Am I ever going to see you again? Will you at least call me? [sniffling] I’ll miss you, Helena. If either of them dies, I’ll never forgive you. But I’ll always love you.
Helena: I love you, too. And I’d do anything to take it all back. But I can’t, so I have no choice but to go.

Thomas Hewitt
The transition to a new school has always been a great stress for a child, especially in the middle of the school year.
You and your parents often moved from city to city. Maybe it was their work, or maybe they just wanted to show you as many different places as possible so that your childhood would remain really memorable — you didn't know. But the constant moving was followed by a change of schools and kindergartens. On the one hand, you liked it — new acquaintances, interests and a lot of positive emotions, after all, you were a cheerful and active child — but it also brought its inconveniences — you didn't have "best" friends, you had no more than a couple of months to communicate with each of them, and multiple the change of the team has made you a real chameleon in society.
You were ten years old when you and your parents moved to Texas. The age when most classes have already been divided into peculiar interest groups, which are quite difficult for a new person to join. That's why your mom decided to bake cookies that you could distribute to new classmates. Who doesn't like homemade cakes? You actively participated in the cooking process. A little more practice, and you could learn these cookies on your own. As soon as the treat was ready — several pieces were successfully taken away by your father — your mother beautifully put it in a colored box, now tied with a ribbon. The inscription "Welcome" was painted on the lid in gold paint.
It was very hot in this area of Texas. Therefore, on your first day of school, you decided to limit yourself to a beautiful white T-shirt with some simple pattern and black shorts. The first impression is the most important, right? Your mom took you to school by car. At the reception desk, your mom introduced you and found out the number of the right office. After kissing you goodbye on the cheek, she left you to your own luck. Although you were already used to it, a nervous feeling of anticipation bubbled somewhere in your chest; your palms were sweating.
After a good seven minutes, you were standing in front of the right class, 212, clutching a box of cookies to your chest. Adjusting the strap of the gray backpack, you exhaled anyway.
Your homeroom teacher, Mrs. Sullivan, introduced you in the office. A lovely woman with curly locks hanging down on both sides of her face and freckled cheeks. Her soft figure, dressed in a white blouse and a black pencil skirt, caused a surge of strength and confidence in you. The woman lightly put her arm around your shoulders, so motherly, and asked you to tell about yourself.
"My name is Y/N Y/L," your voice trembled slightly while your gaze ran over the children sitting in the classroom, "I'm ten. I like animals and beading... Mm, my parents and I move around a lot, so I don't think I'll stay here for more than two months. I hope we'll become friends."
You ended your performance with a sincere warm smile. Mrs. Sullivan asked you to take an empty seat. Your choice fell on the farthest place by the window; a guy was sitting behind it, hunched over and staring at the street. Was he weird? No, rather unusual. He had long black hair, so unusual for a boy; his gaze was lowered somewhere on the dusty road near the school, so you couldn't see his eyes. Sitting down next to him, you quickly took out a notebook and pencil from your backpack.
"Hello?"
The boy seemed startled by your voice. He looked at you uncertainly, and you saw a face wrapped in bandages. Sad cornflower blue eyes peeked out from under the white cloth.
"I'm Y/N," you whisper, holding out your hand to the boy, "And what's your name?"
There was no response. Disappointed, you lowered your hand, now paying attention to the teacher's explanation. The woman was writing down her words on the blackboard, and you quickly began copying them into your notebook, clutching a pencil until it crackled.
There was something about this boy that attracted you. It doesn't matter if it was his shyness or isolation — you decided that you definitely want to make friends with him.
At recess, you approached a group of girls. They were dressed up like girls from fashion magazines that you often saw in kiosks by the road.
"Hi," — you said with a light smile.
"Well, hello," said one of the girls, popping a bubble of gum.
"I want to ask. M, that boy," you pointed to the long—haired boy, "What's his name? I asked, and he ignored me."
"Haha, he won't answer you. That's our little Tommy," another girl hissed sarcastically, giggling, "Thomas Hewitt is weird. Very strange. I heard that his father is his brother!"
"And he's also a terrible freak!"
You awkwardly put your hand in your hair. Thomas didn't look as disgusting as the girls described him. It's all rumors. And what to take from these children, they probably didn't even try to talk to Hewitt!
You didn't talk to this company anymore. After waiting for lunch, when all the children went out to the garden at the school, you again approached the boy. He didn't budge. It seems he hasn't even written anything since you sat down next to him.
"Hey, hello?" you waved your palm in front of the guy's face, "Thomas, right?"
This time the boy paid attention to you. There was no emotion visible under the thick layer of bandages, but you were sure that he arched an eyebrow questioningly. He's wondering how you know his name?
"You were sitting alone, so I came over. Your name is Thomas, right?" you repeated the question, finally the boy nodded, "That's wonderful! I'm Y/N, let's get acquainted."
Smiling happily, you hand the guy an open box of cookies. Golden crust with chocolate chips. You had no desire to share such a delicious thing with such terrible and tactless people. And Tommy. Tommy was different. He was timid and calm, unable to cause harm.
"Help yourself," you babble, sitting down next to Hewitt, "I made them myself! Not without my mommy's help, of course..."
You blush slightly and see Thomas's eyes narrow. He smiled! He seems to be starting to like your company.
"Can I call you Tommy?"
• Thomas has become noticeably happier since you met him. The boy began to spend more time outside the house, in your company (Luda was very surprised by this, because usually after school Tommy always came home and sat in his room).
• For your birthday, Thomas himself sewed a soft toy for you, a fox, as he found out later, this is one of your favorite animals. The toy was sewn from different, but matching pieces of fabric, a little sloppy, but quite skillfully. It made you smile. You threw your arms around Hewitt for joy.
• Once you praise him, Tommy immediately blushes a lot. It's good that it's not visible under the layer of bandages. From the moment you became friends, Thomas's self-esteem has risen a little.
• When you first offered to help Thomas change the bandages, he strongly refused. The boy just couldn't let you see his face. But when he finally gave up, Hewitt was pleasantly surprised that you didn't scream and run away. You didn't call Tommy a freak or a monster, but only sympathetically stroked his scarred cheeks.
• Over time, you began to understand Thomas without words, absolutely. You found the right answers in his movements, grunting, awkward head turning or excessive gesticulation. Even Luda was a little amazed at your nonverbal communication, but the woman was glad that her son finally found a real friend.
• Tommy often showed you his drawings. It was like the scribble of a five-year-old child, but you were always happy to accept the leaves and hang them over your bed. Basically, Thomas drew his family: angry Charlie in the corner of the paper, Monty sitting next to him in a chair, a little further away, Luda was cooking, and in the center of the drawing you and Thomas holding hands and smiling.
• It was the first time you begged your parents to stay in this city longer. Fortunately, they agreed after seeing your enthusiasm for the "strange boy".

Brahms Heelshire
• Your parents and the Healers kept in touch for a while, you can say your families were very close. You first met Brahms on his fifth birthday. He was a very well-mannered but private boy, so Mrs. Heelshire was only too happy to introduce you.
• At first, your communication did not work out. Brahms was a rude child in places, took away your toys and teased you.
• His true attitude towards you showed up when you didn't come to his house, although you were visiting the Heelshire family every Monday and Wednesday. He was seriously worried. All morning Brahms sat in his room by the window and looked at the road going through the forest, waiting for your little body in your favorite blue dress to appear from behind the trees. But you were never there. It turned out that you were just sick. That day Brahms went to your house and did not leave your bed, squeezing your hot palm.
• Your parents worked most of the time, so they were not against your games with Heelshire Jr. You stayed in their house more and more often, sometimes even overnight, and you and Brahms made noise all night, forcing his mother to swear. But still, the woman was glad that at least Brahms was behaving quite comfortably and boldly with someone.
• You were only a couple of months younger than Brahms, but you thought it was a good reason to tease you.
• The boy allowed you to enter his room without knocking, consider it a worthwhile privilege, because Heelshire does not let everyone into his personal space.
• When you were sad, Brahms brought you bouquets of flowers hastily made with his own hands. That's why his palms were green most of the time.
• Brahms makes wonderful sandwiches. He often makes them when the two of you are having a "picnic" in the garden. Although in fact he agrees to it only to admire you.
• Heelshire loves sweets very much. Very. His mom doesn't allow the boy a lot of sweets and cakes, so you secretly bring them to him from home. The boy is insanely happy.
• Brahms loves kissing. This habit, or rather the need, appeared in him because you praised the boy in this way. Has he finally cleaned the room? A kiss. Did he break his mom's precious vase during the catch-up today? A kiss! So now he can demand them for any reason. He especially likes it when you kiss him before going to bed, and Brahms falls asleep hugging you.
• You're his best friend. That's why Brahms trusts you with all his secrets. You are the only one to whom he has told about the strange and frightening thoughts that sometimes sound in his head.
"Good night," Mrs. Heelshire said, turning off the light and closing the door behind her.
You smile and blow her a kiss, covering your mouth with your palm. When the woman's footsteps recede, you exhale with relief, plopping down on the pillow with force. Squinting your eyes, you wrinkle your nose, trying to blow away the stuck strands of hair from your face. Brahms giggles and gently tucks your hair behind your ear.
The room is cool. The window is slightly ajar, letting in a light autumn wind. The curtains are swaying from side to side, taking chaotic frightening shadows.
You get under the covers up to your nose. Brahms follows your example, pressing his whole body against you, and you stroke his head.
"If I ever do something very, very bad, will you stay with me?" Heelshire whispers, looking up at you.
You look into his sad emerald eyes and laugh. He likes to put pressure on your pity, because he knows that at such moments you see him as a tiny abandoned kitten.
"I don't think you'd do anything so bad, Brahms."
"But if I do. What if everyone turns away from me. Even mom and dad. Will you stay with me?"
You pressed your lips together, frowning. Brahms had never asked such strange questions before. And how can a child who is only eight years old think about something like that after a while. Looking down at the ceiling, you turned your head, looking into Brahms' eyes.
"Yes. I'll stay."
"Honestly?" Heelshire asks incredulously.
"Honestly."
"Promise?"
"Yes, I promise you, silly boy!" you abruptly cover his face with a blanket, holding the edges on both sides of his head.
The boy was kicking, trying to get out from under your weight, while you tried not to laugh. Taking pity on his futile attempts, you took off the blankets, admiring Brahms' flushed face. Heelshire was breathing heavily, and his cheeks and nose were burning like Chinese lanterns that your parents launched on your birthday.
"I won. Again," you grin.
Brahms is silent. You sigh and lie down again, turning your back to Heelshire. Your eyes are shining with joy, and your lips continue to curve in a smug grin. You know that Brahms will not dare to do something to you in return. He always let you get away with such antics. Absolutely always.
When you are ready to fall asleep, through the chatter in your head you hear a plaintive whisper. Having opened your leaden eyelids, you groan with displeasure.
"Kiss me," Brahms whines, and you get up on your elbows, chuckling softly.
"Okay," you kiss Heelshire on the lips, "Good night, Brahms."
• "Now I've won," Brahms croaks, pressing you against the wall and spreading his hands on both sides of your head. Just like a child. Except now he's not the victim here, but you. Although was he ever a victim in your games? Rather, he always played the role of a presenter, you just didn't notice it, as if you were looking through your fingers. And who would have thought that that innocent little boy would ever stand in front of you, towering over your body by a good two heads, and grinning with eyes shining in anticipation through the black slits of the mask.

Sinclairs
Christmas is the most mysterious and magical holiday of the year; the day when the whole family gathers at one big table to properly celebrate this moment together; the day when you receive a lot of gifts from all kinds of relatives, which you sometimes did not realize; the day when all wishes come true.
You clumsily shuffled along the road, shaking your back every now and then to adjust the heavy backpack. Things inside rattled a lot, and you tried to straighten your back faster to avoid crumpled packages.
Christmas was your favorite holiday. And although your parents have been working constantly lately, you were glad that you could spend this family holiday with your friends.
You met not so long ago, only about four months ago, when you first moved here. Ambrose turned out to be a very nice and cozy city with friendly and caring people. Mrs. Sinclair, Trudy, and your mom became friends right away— their interests converged on art. That's when I met her sons, the woman suggested that you make friends with them because of their similar age. And it turned out to be a very good idea. The boys quickly became addicted to you.
Once again adjusting the canvas straps of the backpack, you quickly climb the steps requested by the snow and knock on the sand-colored door several times. On the other side, there is a fussy shuffling and dissatisfied grumbling.
"Hello," you say, smiling, when the door swings open in front of you, revealing a view of the timid Vincent.
The guy nods to you and opens the door wider, motioning you to enter. You kiss Sinclair on the cheek of the mask. Brushing off your feet at the threshold, you quickly take off your shoes and leave your backpack at the shoe shelf. Music from an old radio is coming from the kitchen, some station unknown to you is playing old songs from the seventies. As soon as you entered the room, Vincent stood at the stove again, frying something in a frying pan. Whenever Trudy was busy making figures and arranging a museum that she someday wanted to open, it was Vincent who did the cooking and other household duties. Bo was stubborn and didn't want to do "women's" work, and Lester was still too young for such a large-scale activity. The latter was now sitting at the table and skillfully sliced an apple with a hunting knife into neat pieces.
"Morning, Lester," passing by the boy, you leave a small kiss on his forehead.
"Hi, Y/N!" Sinclair winces contentedly, flapping his big copper eyes.
You sit down next to the boy and imperceptibly take a piece of apple from under his nose, throwing it into his mouth contentedly. There were already several plates and cutlery on the table. Vincent loved order, so he prepared everything in advance.
"Where's Bo?" you ask, rocking slightly in your chair, for which you get a menacing look from Vincent.
"Mom asked him to help at the museum," Lester replied, "He should be back soon."
You notice how Vincent turns off the stove and turns his whole body in your direction. The guy takes a notebook lying on the table and quickly scribbles something.
"Have you had breakfast?"
"Yes," you say shortly, when Vincent closes the notebook and puts it back, "Honestly."
Sinclair puts the hot omelette on plates and pushes you a bowl of oatmeal cookies. You happily take one piece. Vincent sits down across from Lester and lifts the mask just enough to see his mouth. You frown, noticing the edge of his deep scar.
"Hey everyone," it was heard from the threshold, when the front door slammed shut with force, "Oh, honey, and you're here," Bo walks past you, lightly touching your shoulder in greeting, and sits down next to Vincent.
During brunch, you watch Lester and Bo actively negotiate. When their plates are empty, you decide to step in.
"Since everyone is here," you babble happily, clapping your hands to attract the attention of the guys, "I want to give you gifts a little earlier than planned, do you mind?"
"Of course not," Bo abruptly pushed away from the table, "I'm all for it, babe."
Bo winked at you playfully, to which you rolled your eyes. Vincent signed something, and you looked at Lester. Your sign language was not yet good enough to understand most of the phrases, you barely remembered the words of politeness. That's why you've always relied on little Lester at times like this.
"He said: "Why are you doing this so early?"", Lester explained, innocently blinking his eyes.
"What's the difference," Bo frowned, "Sooner or later — the main thing is that she gave."
You didn't comment on the elder Sinclair's words, but just got up from the table and went to your backpack resting in the hallway. When you came back, the brothers were already sitting in a kind of semicircle on the floor. Bo sprawled impressively closer to the sofa and grinned in anticipation; Lester, in his usual manner, sat cross-legged; while Vincent tucked his knees to his chest.
You sat down between the twins and put the backpack next to you, unzipping it. You said "Close your eyes" and, as soon as the boys fulfilled your request, you began to take out colorful boxes. All packages had the same color, different sizes. Alternately, you put the gifts in front of them and allowed them to watch. Lester giggled when he saw that his box was the biggest.
"Merry Christmas," you drawled, spreading your arms out to the sides.
The very first gift was opened by Lester. The boy happily tore open the package, scattering the paper around him, and screamed when he saw the cherished surprise. A big stuffed fawn. He had a soft beige body and neat brown horns sticking out in different directions. The muzzle was cheerful, with a big nose and shiny button eyes.
"I knitted it especially for you," you babble, smiling, when Lester looks up at you with an enthusiastic look.
"Thank you!" the boy throws himself on your neck with lightning speed, squeezing your body until the bones crunch; you stroke his back.
Bo was a little surprised when he saw a set of tools under the wrapper. He loved tinkering and was well versed in mechanics; the fact that you remembered about this hobby touched the guy a little; his lips curved in a slight smile.
"Well, thanks, babe," Bo grins, patting your hair.
You're pouting a little. All the time spent in the morning combing this tangled nest has gone to waste. You are dissatisfied with blowing off a few strands that caught your eye.
The last person to open his gift was Vincent. The boy very tenderly unwrapped the package, not trying to tear it, as if stretching and savoring this moment. You watched the deft but careful movements of his fingers with burning impatience. Finally, Sinclair took off all the paper, removing it from the side, and looked down at what he saw. A large set with colored pencils. Exactly the one that the boy looked at with undisguised envy in the window of an art store about a month ago. Did you remember that? With slightly trembling hands, Vincent takes the box and turns it in his hands. There were several more drawing pads under it.
Vincent looks at you, and you see the trembling gaze of his azure eyes in the slits of the mask. Such unbelievers, but at the same time grateful. You crawl up to the boy and hug him tightly, nuzzling his neck. Vincent lets out a ragged sigh.
"Merry Christmas to you, boys," you congratulate them once again, seeing the boys' satisfied smiles.
"So why did you decide to give it to us so early?" Lester asked, clutching the toy to his chest.
"Oh, that," you awkwardly fix your hair, "Well, my parents decided to leave. To another state. We'll leave tonight. So I thought I could have some fun with you now."
There was an oppressive silence in the room. You were afraid to look up, but you could feel the disappointment on the boys' faces. Your heart was painfully squeezed in your chest, from which you gritted your teeth with a creak.
"Will you come back?" Bo broke the silence.
"I don't know. Dad was offered a job in another state. Mom just said I wouldn't be able to see you."
You looked at each of the boys in turn. Vincent's head drooped, Bo's brows furrowed, and Lester's lips tightened into a crooked thread. The elder Sinclair sighed heavily.
"We'll be waiting. All together," he looked at you from under his brows, "Just try not to come back to us."
• Vincent loves sweets; but, often, Bo takes most of the goodies. That's why you put an envelope with several edible bracelets in one of the donated notebooks. Bo will probably consider them girly and will not take them away from his brother.
• You have been knitting a fawn for Lester for about five days; the boy is very happy with your gift. Your relationship is like a brother and a scary sister. He is always ready to rely on you; Sinclair is glad that he has such a caring person, unlike the same brothers (in particular Bo).
• Trudy adores you. You could say that in these few months she began to perceive you as her own daughter. You even know where the spare keys to the back door of the house are.
• Bo always tries to impress you as a self-sufficient high school student. He saw his father's old magazines with tackles, seduction and other materials not for children, so he decided to train on you. He didn't notice how he fell in love.
• Vincent is a good cook.
• Most of Vinnie's drawings in the new notebooks are you. He will paint your portraits for many years after your leaving.

sorry if this is spoilers bc we might learn more later. I'm super confused with Rainhaze's thought process. When he was saying its pointless. like. I get not wanting to go back bc he killed his mom. but what did that have to do with Asphodelpaw? Couldnt he just walk away? Did he see her and decide he wanted to be part of Defiance? And this was the tipping point to prove it? I'm super confused. Was it because if she left she'd tell someone? I assume we'll get a better explanation later?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Absolutely! I've actually been waiting for a chance to really dig into this. Like Rainhaze himself, his issue is written with a lot of confusion and uncertainty, and it's not very straight-forwardly, so I understand why his motivations are easy to miss. So here it is!
Firstly; Rainhaze as he existed in BarrenClan and Rainhaze as he is now are two very, very different beasts. Obviously he's still the same person, but he's gone through a mountain of trauma, violence, and was forced to confront the fact that if pressed, he would kill a family member - even his own mother. Sure, in the moment he was threatened into doing it, but it opens the possibility that he'd even do that. Maybe he would've done anything to protect his family then, but it's been a long time.
Then, over many months, he's subjected to propaganda, murder, and terrible treatment. His mental state from where he was when he killed Dustfeather is massively changed. He's depressed, listless, and much more willing to kill. Not only that, but Defiance propaganda has worked on him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Issue 24)
With so much constant killing in his life, and being constantly vulnerable, he begins to see death as a good thing. Something that ends suffering, something that doesn't really matter in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Issue 28)
So now we're at Issue 31. Rainhaze is in a "doldrum", like Ranger says (a period of inactivity or lethargy). He's so torn between his new life and new beliefs, and his old regrets and old connections to BarrenClan, that he's basically attempting to end his own life through inactivity. Ranger doesn't want this. Here's his plan:
Tumblr media
Ranger knows that BarrenClan lives opposite the forest, across the prairie. He specifically orders Rainhaze to "kill something", planting that idea in his mind. He's hoping that Rainhaze will find one of his Clan members, and make the decision to kill one of them. This would push Rainhaze over into whatever full breakdown Ranger wants, and solidify his ties to Defiance. And that is what happens. So why did Rainhaze make that decision?
Tumblr media
We already have the basis of an incredibly traumatized Rainhaze. He views himself as he is now, and who he used to be, as different people. And he belives that's completely beyond redemption.
Tumblr media
Yes, all those months ago he promised he was suffering in Defiance for his family and Clan, but it's really hard to hold onto those noble morals when you're being put through hell every day. Rainhaze hasn't even seen his family in months. They don't seem real to him anymore.
Tumblr media
Then he is finally confronted by Asphodelpaw, the symbol of everything he's put himself through torture to protect, and all he wants to do is go back to Defiance. And here we go, getting to these lines;
Tumblr media
Rainhaze is a coward.
He's separated from Deepdark and Ranger, by at least several days. He could absolutely come home with Asphodelpaw and warn all of BarrenClan - they could evacuate in time, be far away by the time Defiance arrives on their territory. But then he'd have to face his family, face his sister whose mother he violently murdered. Have to stand there and have them look at him and know him and see the scars on his body.
When he says, "this is vile, pointless, irredeemable, monstrous", he understands that killing Asphodelpaw is a disgustingly cruel action. He knows that. He understands that he's choosing Defiance over her, and over them. But that's the choice he feels he needs to make to protect himself. He's not thinking about his family any more.
So he does something so completely vicious and irredeemable that he is forced to choose Defiance. Because there's no way that any BarrenClan cat would forgive him for this. There's no way he would forgive himself for this.
And thus, Rainhaze figures himself out, and burns every other bridge entirely. He makes his choice.

Daily update post:
After Hamas were the first to say yesterday that the break in fighting will start today at 10 in the morning, as part of the hostage release deal, it turned out that wasn't possible, since they didn't sign the agreement. Then it was reported that Hamas didn't, because they wanted to negotiate some of the details. According to one report, Hamas suddenly insisted the hostages will leave Gaza in Egyptian ambulances rather than Red Cross ones. Getting into bed with the devil surely feels like this. Despite the delay, Qatar has now announced that the break in fighting will begin tomorrow at 7, and the hostages would be released at 4 in the afternoon.
I saw people wondering regarding yesterday's daily post, whether Hamas really doesn't know where all of the hostages are held. So obviously I can't tell for sure, but keep in mind these two things. First, Hamas' rule of Gaza is dictatorial. If they want to find out something, they can and they will. If there's something they don't know, it can only be if they aren't interested in finding out. Second, a part of the deal says that the hostages that won't be released, will get Red Cross visits (finally. They should have had those all along). But how would Hamas take the Red Cross representatives to see the hostages, if Hamas doesn't know where they are?
Hamas has been using civilians to lure Israeli soldiers into ambushes. Despite that, there have been several incidents reported here, about IDF soldiers risking their lives to help Gazan civilians. Today was an especially moving incident, when the soldiers rescued an old woman from underneath rubble, and she asked them to find her autistic daughter, too. Here the two are, after their rescue:
Tumblr media
After the president one of the Belgian parliament refused to screen the 40+ minutes of footage showing Hamas' crimes, calling it propaganda, a Belgian party did so instead. Twenty seven members of the Belgian parliament watched the footage. One of them said she was expecting the worst, but what she saw was beyond that.
This vid is 9 mins long, and isn't the full one (which is 15 min long), but it gives you an idea of how developed the system of terror tunnels and bunkers under the Shifa hospital in Gaza is, and how closely tied the tunnels are to the hospital. For example, the hospital was providing the tunnels with electricity, which means there's no way the people running the hospital didn't know about it.

Charges against a Palestinian man and his three sons were filed today, for having tried to kill a Jewish man about a month ago in the Binyamin region.
This is 26 years old Arnon Benbenisti-Vespi.
Tumblr media
His mom lost her father in the 1973 War, when Israel was attacked by 3 Arab armies on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for Jews, when most of us fast. She then lost her brother in the 1982 First Lebanon War, when Israel went to fight the Palestinian terrorist organization the PLO, which was attacking Israeli civilians from Lebanon, including a notorious terrorist attack where they infiltrated Israel, and took over a Children's House in a kibbutz, targeting the kids inside. She named her son after her brother, but the other day, Arnon was killed in Gaza. May his memory be a blessing.

i hate the fandom idea that homura's actions (especially during rebellion) are out of a place of total selfishness, or homura just "not letting go" or because she's evil.
did everyone forget that madoka, while dying, begged homura to keep looping to make sure madoka didn't become a magical girl? homura had already seemingly looped several times before, and madoka all but asked her to keep going to save her from her fate. albeit, madoka was likely not thinking clearly about this, and obviously wasn't asking to be cruel or to "hurt" homura by continuing the cycle, but the idea that "homura only loops because she's selfish and evil and wants madoka to stay human because she's selfish and evil" is literally not true at all in canon. madoka asks homura to make sure she (madoka) doesn't contract, and all but asks her to loop again and again until that happens. obviously this is something homura wants to do (since human madoka = safe from the fate worse than death magical girls get), but the concept that it's only homura's desire, that madoka never asked for this, is false canonically.
and the idea in rebellion that homura is intentionally acting against madoka's wants and "forcing" her to be human and seperate from the LoC ties into this as well. for one, homura 100% genuinely believes that madoka regrets her wish. madoka (while not having all her memories) says she could never do what she did as a goddess — that is, leave all her friends and family behind, erase herself from existence, etc. and after this, homura then 1) believes her, and 2) blames this perceived misery madoka felt as a goddess on herself (iirc, she says something like "if those are your true feelings, then what a terrible mistake i've made").
she blames herself for "letting" madoka contract, thinking madoka was miserable, thinking she once again committed a grave sin by "breaking her promise" to madoka by letting her contract. remember, the reason the looping seemed to continue on for so long in the first place is that madoka begged homura as she was dying to make sure she didn't contract. homura had been ready to die, along madoka's side. and madoka, as any fourteen year old would, wanted to keep it from happening again.
then rebellion kicks in, and homura (in her despairing state) thinks that not only 1) she has betrayed her promise to madoka by letting her contract in the first place, and 2) that madoka is horribly lonely and miserable after the contract/wish was granted. she 100% whole heartedly believes this, and also believes the only way she can fulfill the promise and protect madoka from kyubey is to rip her from goddesshood.
kyubey openly said in rebellion the whole reason homura is in the isolation field is because he's using her to get to madoka. he can't prove the LoC exists, only homura knows who madoka is, so they can eventually control madoka/the LoC by having her save homura. homura is put in a spot where she can't really even let madoka save her, because that gives kyubey access to seeing madoka, which can lead to him controlling her. and even if he doesn't get madoka that time, there's always a chance he could try this isolation field trick with any other magical girl, possibly even another one of madoka's friends, since the LoC wouldn't just willingly ignore a magical girl despairing. and he has all the time in the world to work on getting control of the LoC/madoka (an incomprehensible amount of it), provided entropy doesn't accelerate, and his species is both determined and much more advanced than humans.
homura doesn't do it because she's bored or evil or For Fun or because she's a "yandere" or whatever the hell else some people claim. she unequivocally thinks it's what madoka wants, and that it's the only way she can keep madoka from being controlled and hurt by kyubey, once again echoing back to the promise made in an earlier timeline ("can you go back in time and make sure i don't get tricked by kyubey?").

Looking for answers
Tumblr media
Summary: during a chase ambrosius captures ballister to get answers from him but since he doesn't want to hurt him he will have to resort to other methods.
A/N: I got this idea from a message of an anon in @otomiya-tickles So... Anon if you see this... I give you the credits 😅
Warnings: a little of angst but not too much to worry.
------------------
Okay, everything gone wrong.
Ballister and Nimona were running from Ambrosius and his knights through different alleys, There came a time when he and Nimona separated.
"it's ok it's ok... It's all good, I just need to hide long enough until..."
PAM
Something hit him behind the head knocking him unconscious.
...
He slowly regains consciousness inside of a tower, the tower is old and dusty, with cobwebs everywhere, He sees a shadow watching him at a distance.
"Hello?" he asks nervous.
"Why can't I move?" he asks himself, He notices his hands are tied to the chair and his legs strapped together, leaving him vulnerable and unable to move or escape.
Suddenly, a voice from the shadows responds, and the shadowy figure begins to move towards him...
when the figure came out of the darkness he immediately realized who it was.
"ambrosius?!" Ballister scream terrified, In front of him was his friend... The one he loved... Now in his eyes a possible murderer.
"Ambrosius, what are you doing?" he greets his friend, a hint of fear in his voice. He looks concerned and confused at the sight of Ambrosius, uncertain of his intention behind tying him up.
At first Ambrosius doesn't answer him, he just looks at him coldly and then says.
"listen Ballister, I still have a lot of questions and I know if I take you with the director you will be arrested and I won't get answers, so that's what I'm looking for... answers"
Ambrosius's words make Ballister's blood run cold. He tries to compose himself, but can't help but feel a hint of fear when confronted by his trusted friend.
"Ambrosius, what are you talking about?" Ballister asks, his voice shaky.
Ambrosius covered his face with his hands frustrated, it was clear that he also had a dilemma in what to believe and what not.
"Look... For now just answer my questions. Where is your other partner?"
"Your other partner...? Ah! Nimona!" Ballister thought as he had forgotten about her for the whole thing happening, Surely she would come to rescue him! ...in any moments...Either way he couldn't tell ambrosius anything about nimona.
"I... don't know" Ballister responds reluctantly, not wanting to say anything that could put Nimona in danger. He keeps thinking of Nimona, wondering if she is okay and if she is out there searching for him as well, hoping to be rescued by her.
"I have to be honest, Ambrosius, I don't know where Nimona is" Ballister continues, his voice more comfortable after speaking the truth.
Ambrosius just narrowed his eyes a little with a look that said "yep, I don't believe you".
"No, really, I don't know where Nimona is!" Ballister protests, feeling himself getting defensive by Ambrosius's skepticism.
"Just take off these restraints! And why have you tied me up like this anyway?"
"Well, it's in case things get a little... complicated" he said, crossing his arms, although... Ballister swears that for a second he saw a smile on his face... it was maybe his imagination, so ambrosius spoke again.
"Well if you don't know where she is, tell me where you and her have been hiding"
"Why should I tell you anything?" Ballister says, his tone becoming more aggressive due to his increasing frustration with Ambrosius.
"I am innocent and yet you have tied me up against my will like some criminal and I refuse to say anything to you until you release me" Ballister states adamantly, his voice becoming slightly louder.
"..." Ambrosius doesn't say anything for several seconds, he has a blank look before responding.
"...you really want to do this the hard way huh bal?"
"And what do you plan on doing to me, Ambrosius?" Ballister replies, his anger growing after hearing Ambrosius's threat.
"You and I once worked side by side to protect the people, and now here you are, forcing me to reveal information under the threat of violence.
"Hey! Who said i would use violence?" he said in an offended tone since he would never hurt someone even to get answers, although he tried not to show it, Ballister's words had affected him.
"Then what did you imply when you said, 'do it the hard way'?" Ballister questions, feeling more and more suspicious about Ambrosius.
"Well... Since you insist so much" he said as he got behind Ballister and since Ballister was tied to the chair he couldn't see what Ambrosius is doing or about to do.
Hearing Ambrosius's footsteps behind him causes Ballister to become extremely nervous.
"What are you doing back there? You wouldn't hurt me, would you, Ambrosius?" Ballister asks, his voice shaking slightly, He struggles to turn and see what Ambrosius is doing behind him.
Ambrosius felt horrible when he saw that ballister thought he was going to hurt him, but again he didn't show it.
"No bal, I won't hurt you, but i still nedd to get answers" In that, Ambrosius's hands went to Ballister's armpits and he began... To tickle him?!.
"Do you remember this bal?" he said in a sarcastic way.
"Ah! Ambrosius! St-stop it!" Ballister says, trying to suppress a laugh as he hears Ambrosius's voice become more playful.
He tries to remain calm and serious, but the ticklishness of Ambrosius's touch has him fighting back laughter.
"Yeah... I don't think so" ambrosius was trying to hide his own smile as he continued to tickle ballister, he already knew that he was very ticklish, so he had faith that it would work
"So where are you and that girl hiding?" He ask again still tickling him.
"Haha! I... I... cahahan't... tehehell you!" Ballister says, his resistance to the ticklish attack weakening, He tries to be stern and imposing, but his laughter makes him sound vulnerable and helpless like a child.
"Stubborn as always... Don't worry... I'm just getting started" he said tickling his armpit with one hand and his neck with the other.
"where is nimona?!" Ballister thought, still waiting for her to rescue him from this.
"Wait... wahahahait! Hahahaha! stoopp!" Ballister says, starting to struggle against his restraints as he continues to be tickle tortured by Ambrosius, He continues laughing hysterically, his body shaking and his cheeks turning bright red from the continuous tickling.
"Hahahaha! Stop! I mehehean it!" Ballister protests, trying to keep up his guard, but failing miserably.
"You're already turning red..." Ambrosius said with a smile but without stopping "if you want it to stop, you know what I want to hear"
"N-no, stop it! I'm not tehehelling you anything! Ahahaha no! stohohop it!!" Ballister protests, still struggling to be taken seriously by Ambrosius, even while his face is turning more and more red from the constant tickling.
"hahahaha! Let me go! I mean it! I'm not tehehelling you, Ambrosiuhus! Hahahaha!" Balister says in between fits of laughter.
Then Ambrosius stops for a few moments, not only to give Ballister a rest but also to think of where else he could tickle him, while Ballister was begging internally that nimona still went to rescue him.
Ballister feels a slight sense of relief when Ambrosius stops tickling him, but he is still red and gasping forair from the torture, he really tries not to laugh, but he feels his whole body twitching from the residual tickling.
"Dohon't you dare..." he says to Ambrosius, trying to stand his ground.
"If I remember correctly..." He said ignoring what ballister said "Your most ticklish point is... Here" he said touching his ribs.
"NO! HAHAHA! NOHOHO! PLEASE NO!" Ballister exclaims, his voice rising from his laughter and pleading, He struggles even more now as he tries to escape from Ambrosius's touch, but the ropes make it impossible.
"PLEASE EVERYTHING BUT THERE! HAHAHAHAHA!" Ballister begged beginning to have tears in his eyes.
"Urgh! He knows damn well where I'm ticklish!" Ballister thought Remembering their tickle fights in the past.
He remembers their tickle fights in the past with a fond fondness even while in this terrible situation. Ambrosius's attack makes him unable to resist the laughter and he is left in a state of utter helplessness.
Ambrosius was about to say something, but he was interrupted by the collapse of the door of the apparently abandoned building, a pink rhino ran towards Ambrosius and hit him, leaving him Unconscious and with his horn she locked him in a nearby closet, then she transformed again into a girl.
"Hey boss!" Nimona said happily.
Balister's face lights up when he sees Nimona, He can't believe she came to rescue him!
"Nimona! Did you come to save me?" Ballister says, his voice full of joy as he looks at his savior, He is very relieved and thankful to see his friend, but Ambrosius's unconscious body causes him to look worried once again, He turns to Nimona with a concerned look on his face.
"What happened to Ambrosius?" Balister said, pointing at Ambrosius's unconscious form in the closet.
"Ah don't worry I just left him unconscious" she said smiling clearly without caring much.
"Good bye strings!" she said starting to untie the ties.
Balister watches as Nimona unties him, feeling his tension and worry wash away with each tie she unravels.
Balister turns to face Nimona and sees her smiling and doesn't seem concerned about Ambrosius's condition.
"But what about Ambrosius? Shouldn't we at least make sure he's okay?" Balister asks, concerned for Ambrosius's safety.
"..."
"you're a softie..." She said transforming into a gorilla and dragging ballister out of the building with ballister protesting...

But this time, he's also in the same class as the world famous model son of a supervillain, a star exchange student from China that got into U.A. based on recomendations, and another exchange student from the Carribbean that Nino is like 75% sure is secretly a famous vigilante??? At least they are nice?!

more detailed notes on the eva au characters
i'm deranged about this. most of these were decided upon with @forgetmenautical ^_^ have some beasts
adam: angel that is not aware he’s an angel (was probably replaced by one as a child and has just lived his life like this). he’s called by his father to come and use the evangelion and he links with it immediately. has trouble getting along with the other pilots and…anyone he interacts with honestly. spends the majority of his time in the evangelion to the point where they keep trying to get him out of it
evangelion listens TOO closely to him. acts on subconscious thought
he was that angel found at the bottom of the lake. lmao. lol even. he doesn’t really know this
sarah: agreed to becoming a pilot for the sole reason of wanting to honor mark’s legacy. in all actuality she’s terrified of it, but doesn’t want to lose the only ties to her brother she has. very hostile towards mcp3 for their involvement in his death but stays with them anyway. gets along with ruth because they both don’t trust anyone here
only stays at nerv to honor mark’s legacy. the longer she stays, and the more danger she’s in, the more she wonders if this is what he would want
tries to leave at a certain point. they won’t let her
was given mark’s evangelion. she feels sick every time. swears she can hear him
relationship with cesar deteriorates the more she goes into the evangelion. tries to kill him at some point
evelin: i haven’t figured her stuff out yet. was here before adam and sarah but keeps getting put in situations (her evangelion keeps going berserk HELP HER). dave kind of took her in but she decides to look into the nerv secrets on her own since he won’t say anything. tries to be friends with adam but something is just so deeply wrong with him and she keeps getting involved. sarah’s mostly normal near-murders aside
TOTALLY not a false human. cause i’d never have her parallel adam ever
you’ve never seen a sadder pilot in your entire life
jonah: meets adam through school and immediately tries to befriend him. he thinks the two of them are very close friends (they are not. adam doesn’t like him). upon becoming a pilot, he goes into his first fight and his evangelion corrupts. adam goes to fight the rogue evangelion but ends up using way too much force. jonah either gets severely injured but he STILL keeps trying to be positive
uses cesar’s old eva in the fight. it doesn’t sync well with him.
after the head of his evangelion is ripped off, he’s incapable of speech for a month after the fact. he doesn’t respond to stimuli.
mark: one of the first pilots used. his main reason for joining nerv was so that he could protect sarah (and look how well that went!). he was murdered by cesar’s berserk evangelion.
didn’t realize cesar was controlled by the angel during their last fight. spent his last moments in utter terror.
cesar: same as mark. during one of their battles, an angel took over cesar/his evangelion and used him to kill mark. after this happens, he’s kept under surveillance by nerv, and becomes a psychologist for them later in life. he doesn’t trust them after mark’s death, and tries to convince the pilots that staying isn’t worth it. he’s banned from talking to adam.
keeps trying to help sarah escape. issue is that she still blames him for mark’s death on some level
very tense with mcp3 since they were part of the reason why everything happened
thatcher’s superior. lmao
something is SO WRONG with him. how are you a therapist you need that
thatcher: a scientist at nerv (thatcher, ruth, and dave all joined after graduating college). joined because he wanted to help people but has realized over the years that nerv is doing the opposite of that. he lets adam (and later, sarah) stay with him when they join as pilots despite being the worst possible person to have roommates. knows that his friends are hiding something from him, but he’s too busy with trying to not let these kids die to explore deeper
friends with cesar. kind of. it’s hard to truly be friends with someone when you were partially responsible for the death of their best friend but they try
tries to help adam and sarah. doesn’t go too well
dave: another scientist. he works very closely with the magi and spends the majority of his time in those damn computer tunnels. knows the whole deal with the evangelions and lilith and all of that, but doesn’t tell ruth or thatcher about it. doesn’t really let himself realize that what he’s doing is wrong, he keeps trying to convince himself that this is a good idea (and putting children in living mech suits is ALWAYS a good idea). has to realize that isn’t true when it’s already too late
as mentioned earlier. takes in evelin upon meeting her. since jude sucks LMAO
feels bad about lying to his friends but what is he gonna do. tell the truth (TELL THE TRUTH. PLEASE)
ruth: also a scientist. unlike thatcher, she realizes dave’s lying and decides to do something about it in between trying to do her job. starts trying to get into the basement + figure out what the evangelions are. most probably doomed but she can stay silly. ends up befriending sarah on account of both of them not trusting this place at all.
occasionally checks on thatcher. this is how she met sarah actually
doesn’t trust adam as far as she can throw him but hey she trusts thatcher’s judgement (she really shouldn’t this will only end poorly)
jude: runs nerv. there isn’t too much to say about him he sucks LMAO. knows about adam being an angel but decides he can use that for the evangelion purposes. doesn’t talk to him outside of that though

Oh my gosh this idea is based on a long time OC I had but I wanted to ask your take on it
How would Darth Maul be with a daughter reader? (You can make it child if you’d like to write GN)
She could be born sometime around the Phantom Menace, and eventually becomes Obi-wan’s apprentice in the Clone Wars
Of course she doesn’t know of her heritage until Maul is back, and her master tells her about him.
How do you think their dynamic will be? Will she turn to stay with her father, or stay loyal with her master? And how would Maul feel about his daughter being the apprentice of his greatest enemy?
Thank you!
Due to the nature of this ask, I’m going to make this less of a headcanon list, but more of a mini character meta essay. 😅 Hope that’s okay!
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
If we’re talking about things from Maul’s Perspective, he’d feel really betrayed. Which is ridiculous, feeling betrayed by a child who had no other adults around them at a young age. Maul can consciously acknowledge that the things he’s feeling are blown out of proportion, despite how emotionally stunted he is.
Above all else, that’s still his child. Not to get all “Zabrak fanon” on you, but I genuinely think his instincts would get the better of him the more time passed. It’s like an itch he can’t scratch, worst of all, it’s deep inside him where he can’t push it down any further. In fact, that could make it worse if he tried.
Maul, being traumatized and severely detached from the Sith (although still desperately clinging onto their ideals,) would be lonely and desperate enough to risk almost anything to get his child back. Revenge can wait.
The push and pull between his Sith teachings, and what both his instincts and brothers are telling him to do would be a nasty struggle. The latter would win, one way or another.
Queue the insistent desperation for emotional depth, and family ties.
Of course, his brother(s) would be more than willing to claim the child again, no matter how old she is. They’re still a family! Even if Maul wants to deny that part, putting up the front for everyone, including himself that his kid being by his side would be “nothing but an ally to defeat the Jedi” (don’t worry, he’s lying to himself, and he knows it.)
If we’re in the child’s perspective, however? There would probably be a large point of time dedicated to disbelief, denial, and shock. I mean, just imagine thinking that the way you know was your entire life, and it’s all that meant to you, but now you know the truth of your parental origins? The possibilities would be frightening. Damn, that would fuck me up, too.
After getting through the rougher parts of acceptance, she’d want to find her father. After all, she has as much of a right to know her own father as anyone else! Despite the warnings and clear disapproval from the council, and from her own Master, she goes out anyway, defying their orders.
And by the HELLS is it a trip. Following Maul around to try and catch his attention, and keep said attention away from the “you’re here, my child, so let’s take revenge” is a nightmare in and of itself. It’s like following the eye of a hurricane, and in that mess of a storm, you’re bound to get hurt.
Of course, Obi-Wan would come to save the day, but that doesn’t stop her in the slightest.
Realistic to Star Wars or not, I can see there being two endings…
1: Maul gets his child to join him, but she can’t let go of her teachings completely (she has her father’s stubbornness.) Maul doesn’t have the heart to torture his own child, like what Sidious did to him. Every pulsating instinct in his body tells him that he won’t, he can’t, and he KNOWS his brother(s) won’t let that shit slide. It’s a weakness, but Maul’s brother(s) take the load of responsibility when he begins to spiral.
The closest comparison I can think of would be an annoying big shit + annoying little shit dynamic. They’re both stubborn af (Maul is proud of that, but he won’t tell anyone,) they’re both passionate about what they care about, and they both have strong determination when they really want something.
In the select few situations where they can actually agree to something, they function wonderfully together. When she discourages Maul’s brute force, and tries to use peace, he will roll his eyes, and will be silently proud when it actually works out. If it doesn’t? We all know he’ll pull a “told you so” moment.
They’re chaotic af when they get along (his brother(s)/her uncle(s) are so tired of it.)
Also, a lot of choked-back tears of “that’s my girl!” when she does get violent. I mean, at least half of her is Dathomirian Zabrak, an apex predator, that side is gonna be useful at some point.
Or
2: Maul’s child doesn’t join him, but she doesn’t have the heart to kill him, and he doesn’t have the heart to kill her, either. You know those desperate attempts Maul made to get Ezra on his side? The same kind of thing would happen here, but in this case, he’d be much more headstrong about it, mostly due to his instincts. That’s his child, his family. Not the Jedi’s.
Queue he freaky/kinda creepy Maul mental spiral we see in Rebels.
AH! This turned out to be very long. I hope you liked it!

Do you think Jason would ever try and adopt kids of his own? I imagine he'd be beyond happy to have a family of his own even if he would need to leave the vigilante lifestyle behind but also wouldn't really imagine something like that being possible for himself in the first place. For several reasons.
First and foremost, we all need to be on the same page that Jason is canonically really good with kids. It's also canon that Jason has some of the worst familial luck in the world.
I think, to Jason, starting a family would be one of his pipe dreams. He knows intimately not every person should be a parent. That it's a parent's job to put their kid first and not every adult is capable of doing that. Jason predominately had to raise himself and had very little guidance as a young child from the adults around him. He's been on the receiving end of taking care of the adults who should've been taking care of him and has had their trauma/issues projected onto him his entire life. Jason has no idea where to start with raising a child. The only stepping stones he has are "Don't do what was done to you as a child" and "What did I need as a child?" Which can be helpful tools, but aren't stable foundations to raise a child on. To this day, Jason still doesn't know how he should actually be treated as a living human being. While he can usually reciprocate needs to others, he's constantly overshadowed by this weight that he's doing everything wrong.
Jason is pretty self-aware and he knows how damaging it is to be on the receiving end of a parent who's not capable of raising a kid. Whether he faults those adults or not, he would blame himself because he would be actively choosing to have a kid. Jason knows he's fucked up and he wouldn't want to fuck a kid up like how he was. Especially because Bruce did do that with a multiple of his: "I didn't want them to turn into me." Even further, Jason doesn't even pursue most (romantic) relationships because he's well aware of his many issues and enemies and how that can lead to many problems. In what world would he feel comfortable putting a child in that position if he fears projecting onto and/or damaging a fellow adult? I think he'd even view it as being selfish. How he's only adopting a child because "he wants one," "wants to help them," "etc." because again that didn't turn out well for Jason. The man knows he'd have to achieve a spectacular amount of healing before he'd be capable of raising a child and Jason doesn't fully know how or if he can heal from the life he's led. Besides that, Jason would constantly be worried about his old life coming back to haunt his new one.
The only way I could see him adopting kids would be if he left the vigilante business (which neither he nor I see happening) and probably somewhat cutting ties with the bats. Whether because of rocky relationships or because he knows being in contact with them would only allow trouble to lead back to him and the new life he's made. Like if Jason was hypothetically a parent, I don't think he'd trust himself to leave his kids around Bruce. If something were to happen to his kids (like killed by an enemy hypothetically), he knows damn well Bruce won't do anything about it except try to stop Jason from putting an end to whoever hurt his loved ones. He would Especially not let them be his sidekick. I know Scarlett and Duela, two girls people like putting as "his" (which ignores the fact that he and Duela used to be the same age. Before that, her older than him), were already loosely ~in the bizz~ so to speak, but he actively encouraged both girls to leave and be something more. Tyler, on the other hand, I hate how fandom always forgets his mom is right there and still around? Yes, she was in the hospital, but people forget that she got better and is getting help. Very dismissive and, to me, comes off as incredibly uncouth.
This isn't to say Jason doesn't know anything about kids and child care. I think Jason knows logically that X is abusive and can do Y to a child's development. But I think his own fears, insecurities, and rightfully placed concerns+considerations would get in the way of ever truly considering kids of his own. In fact, I think that's one of the things that could make Jason a really good parent: He knows that not everyone should be one.
TL;DR No, I don't think Jason would ever adopt/have kids in general because he fears doing to them what was done to him. I.E. Pushing and projecting trauma onto a kid because he knows he doesn't have the skills to be a long-time caretaker to a child. Let that man heal. Slapping him with a kid won't actually do that. You can argue he could "break the cycle of abuse," but I truly think Jason is too terrified to even attempt that because he knows that kids are actually their own person too and deserve to be treated as such. He would never adopt "Just because he's always wanted a kid/start a family of his own."
Really, most takes I see with giving Jason kids are because people either want to squeeze him out of vigilantism or so he can "be more like Bruce" with the adoption tendencies. Neither falls in line with canon Jason while also confusing long-term care = "being good with kids" which are not the same things.

The Mystery of Leon Schezar
@radical-rad1986 @konstantya in response to this post:
Don't blame the messenger, lol. But yes, it does say that.
But then, I was thinking... what did I think of the whole thing, really? Why would he be so desperate to meet this girl he only talked for a while again? Why else would Allen flip out when Dryden reads about her from the journal? Well, the obvious take is that he "fell in love" with her and dumped his family for that. What's your take?
This actually gave me a reason to do something I had planned for a longer while: to take a closer look at the Leon and Hitomi's grandma situation.
I never really paid too much attention to that part of the story, because yes, it's sort of creepy as it is and it's also sort of complicated with the timeline revealed through Hitomi's visions, random flashbacks and excerpts from Leon's journal. So maybe it will be nothing new for those who were actually analyzing it before already. But here goes, and chronologically this time.
The First Meeting
First revealed part (cold start to ep. 16)
What do we know of the first meeting? Younger!Leon (or let's call him Moustache Leon) climbs some sort of mountain. It's windy and foggy but not frozen; he just climbs a mountain for whatever reason, wherever he is, during his search for the secrets of Atlantis. On the top, a pillar of light hits, bringing a girl with it -- with a summer yukata and a pinwheel.
Second revealed part (Hitomi's vision)
Their revealed conversation goes something like this:
ML: "I can't believe it. You're from the Mystic Moon. I left on this journey to leave all my ties behind. But when I look at you, at your eyes... I think that maybe it was all in vain. You'll forgive me, won't you?"
HG: ... (gets whisked away by the pillar of light)
This doesn't seem to be something that a man falling in love on a first sight would say? Also, what is interesting, Allen gives the very same "you'll forgive me, won't you?" line to Hitomi in "present day", as he flips out about his dad and she is concerned.
Anyway, how old is ML at this point? Are the ties he mentions his family here already? I was hit by an idea that he could possibly be not married yet? Later on, he calls it an "encounter of his youth". Is it possible, he met the girl before marrying Encia, he tried to forget her and the whole Atlantis discourse but later on, he can't escape the restless wish to look into it further?
Whatever it is, he is supposed to be much younger here than his bearded self that appears in the other visions and such. If this is actually the first time he had left his family, I believe he would be in his late 20s or older (Allen is about 10 at the time). If this is before starting a family, perhaps even early 20s. Making the age difference same as Allen and Hitomi/Millerna.
The Search
First revealed part (Leon's journal)
Year of Crystal Northeast, Green, 12th Moon
In his search, Leon (the Older or Bearded; BL) is coming to the dark continent of Asgard, where "no man has set foot before". This means that the first meeting with the girl did not take place in Asgard! I believe I never realized it before.
Also, Leon is not searching for the girl per se (meaning he expects to find her there), he is searching for "the Mystic Valley, where the power that makes miracles happen resides - the Power of Atlantis".
Next, we are shown the leviship that is about to crash into the seas near Asgard. Leon "paid a large sum for the ship and the crew" and will not let them turn around. He is then shipwrecked and washes ashore of Asgard, possibly after several days. He mentions "the memory of girl reappeared, and that the gods led him there". It was "destiny". He also reveals he is seeking to "ascertain his feelings for the girl" and that "everything he looks for is in the Mystic Valley". I feel like he is planning to use the power of Atlantis to summon her.
Blue, 16th Moon
Bearded Leon reaches "driven snow and jagged rocks" that block his path. He also meets "Isaac" an old man saying he comes from the Mystic Moon.
White, 3rd Moon
Bearded Leon walks the misty moor that he is convinced is the last obstacle just before the Mystic Valley together with Isaac, but loses him in the fog. He doesn't care much as he is hell-bent on "revealing the mystery of Atlantis", and "meeting that girl, because if he can meet her..." Aaaand Allen has a ragefit and won't let him finish.
The Reunion
First part (revealed by Allen's vision in the Mystic Valley)
Bearded Leon is injured and runs from the Zaibach soldiers. He says "they chased after him since he left the valley" and that they were after "the mystery of Atlantis". But then, his whole visit to the Mystic Valley happens offscreen, doesn't it. And without any obvious results. What does happen to him there? What is the content of the torn journal page? Did the gate open for him, like it did for Hitomi and co.? Because apparently, the big realizations come only after he leaves the valley, is assaulted and left for dead by Zaibach.
Who, as it turns out, just wanted his journal, but he was cleverer than them and had ripped the important pages out. They, on the other hand, were dumb enough to kill him even if they wanted information out of him (you were supposed to be smart, Isaac). Defeated Isaac/Dornkirk leaves, left to his own devices about Atlantean power.
Then, using the pendant (that he has now and can be assumed found in the Mystic Valley as the only thing that confirms he was even there), Leon summons the girl one last time. Upon seeing her being the same age as she was the first time, Leon understands that wishes "transcend time and space" and "the power of Atlantis is the power of human heart (or wishes)". He also says his "hunch had been correct", meaning, he had assumed this earlier already. Finally, he sends his journal home, to his beloved wife, Encia.
One more thing is funny here, how did Allen not realize the final part of Leon's journal should not be at his villa? But maybe he just thought it was delivered by some sort of messenger and his mother never told him cause it was too painful or something.
Anyway, Allen, sill pissed at his cheating homewrecking father (also, the large sum of money that Leon used to "buy the lives of the crew" of the Asgard leviship was surely missed in the household budget, which is something the artbooks confirm as well), finally sees the truth which is that his parents truly loved each other. But he still can't understand why Leon left.
What Leon says to that is that "he wanted to break free of his destiny" because he married and had family out of duty. Finally, he says something like "what did it matter finding out if the Power of Atlantis is the power of wishes/feelings, when I didn't even understand my own wishes/feelings"... he concludes that he "loves Encia" and encourages Allen to "follow his heart" as well. The wishes/feelings duality comes from the word 思い (omoi) that Escaflowne uses very often. And means both, btw. That's why I didn't use literal translation of that line, cause I think Leon is talking more of his feelings there.
Also, I want to say something the words for "love" that were used:
恋する (koi suru) in the artbook for Leon / Hitomi's grandma
愛する (ai suru) Leon in his own words towards Encia (Allen also uses this in his confessions).
Ai suru is definitely the deeper type of expression, where koi suru can be sort of the infatuation, crush, yearning; ai suru is something you do not say lightly and shouldn't be something short-lived.
(My Own) Conclusions
So from all this, I feel like I want to headcanon that Leon met Hitomi's grandma even before Encia. I believe nothing that I've seen in the anime contradicts that option (even if the artbook kinda does). It would also be the most merciful one that puts him in the better light. He was researching Atlantis, met this mysterious girl on one of his trips but went back and married for duty. But the "what ifs" haunt him and the call of Atlantis prevails over his "destiny" in Asturia. The age difference of their meeting would also be way less creepy.
The worse option would be, he actually left the family first, met the girl and spent all the years searching for the power of Atlantis that could lead him back to her again. But I don't think it necessarily had to mean romantic love. Actually, I decide it doesn't. She probably personifies his obsession, the goal of his Odyssey. Imagine, he gives up on everything, including his own family and life, in search for something pretty unspecific. And then, at the end of one torturous journey, a girl falls from the sky. Probably, the fate would have him believe he searched for that girl, right? There has to be some higher meaning to their meeting. It's really as if one of these scholars and adventurers searching for Atlantis (on Earth) could suddenly talk to someone who lived there. Of course they would become obsessed. Their talk was too short, if he could talk to her some more, maybe he would understand. It would give a meaning to his journey. But in the end he realizes he had it wrong. He was searching for something he already had with his wife and family.
One last thing that would be interesting to look into is how it all influences Allen. One strong thought I had was, at one point in the episode, it really looks like his father abandons his "duty" for a woman which is something Allen doesn't do with Marlene. But I always feel like it haunts him a little that he gave up on his first love like that. So would he understand Leon a little, if it wasn't for all the grief he caused his mother? I really like the "heroic story can be forged out of the playboy Allen" from the artbook btw. I think this sort of captures the creators intentions for him. As for Leon, he still remains kind of an enigma... also wish I hadn't noticed today that the color of Hitomi's mother's eyes seemed dark blue in some shot... damn, I don't even want to go there X_X So I won't. This is it for today.

I noticed in one of your tags earlier that you found it more likely that Empires False will just be mind wiped again? I actually feel like this the least likely of all options, because it would effectively be backsliding on at least one element of the story being told so far.
Even if things change for amnesiac Empires False because of interactions and how people see her or something, she would still be asking herself questions we the audience already know the answers to. What we need now are the answers to the questions we still have, and I feel like it would be really unsatisfying narratively to make us wait even longer artificially for those answers.
Ever since hermit False revealed that she was the one responsible for the other's amnesia, it feels to me like this story has been about the consequences of both Falses' past actions, especially with how the hermit wants to avoid those consequences, and I feel like the only fitting ending would be that there is no way back, only forward.
I think if there is a confrontation between the Falses somehow, it will hopefully reveal most if not all of the mystery between them and the lab they were involved in, and even if we don't get all the answers before the end of the crossover, I don't think Empires False will go back to her old normal, at least definitely not for too long.
...Actually now thinking about it, it does sound likely at this point that the crossover might end in a confrontation where the hermit thinks she's re-applied the amnesia and goes home feeling like all the loose ends are tied up, only for the next Empires episode to show that False gradually remember everything again and become a proper villain!
Though there have been several times with False this crossover where it's seemed possibly predictable how it might go and then every single episode has had some kind of plot twist so we'll just have to see!
HMMMMMM yeah you do have a point about the narrative backslide i just find it hard to believe that false would want to keep playing e!false as evil as she is right now-- but at the same time if she DOES then its a ballsy decision and i respect it fully.
i just tend to keep my expectations for mcyt plotlines kind of low but my ideal would definitely be the 'no way back only forward' ending. especially if it allows e!false to grow in a better person from the starting point of '''''evil'''''' without needing to be memory wiped. like she's already been seen second guessing her kill instincts with her meeting with sausage y'know. redemption arc....
or hell if it turns out theres a third element we don't even know about with the lab backstory then im even more intrigued. i love this storyline so much i cannot stop thinking about it aughUHGH

When Gareth inevitably heads downstairs before Maria on the Morning of the 22nd (his birthday), he will find that the dining room table contains a cake, a banner draped across the table, several balloons and a small pile of presents with a couple of cards. In the kitchen, Maria has already set up for breakfast and she has, somewhat sneakily, penciled in a very important meeting, that is actually with her, at home, until at least 10am. There is a bottle bag, containing a large bottle of old and expensive scotch from Maria's Mum and Dad. A Glen Grant 51 year old Macbeth themed whisky, with a card, clearly picked out by her mother wishing him a happy birthday and being glad he's back in their lives. There is a card atop a pile of boxes. It's a simple thing with text on the front that reads If I had my life to live over again... I'd find you sooner and love you longer. Happy Birthday, I love you. Inside Maria has written the following message: Gareth, I can't begin to express what the last months have meant to me. Though years have moved between us, it feels like no time has passed at all. I adore you now as much as I did when we were in our 20's and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. Here, my love, is to the first of many birthdays and the next adventure. Happy Birthday. Eternally yours, Maria xxx Beneath the cards are three boxes: One is small, square, with a black ribbon wrapped around it. Inside are a pair of cufflinks, that to the naked eye look ordinary, possibly like clocks, but on closer inspection the circular top has a woody grain and 12 tiny engraved swords pointing to the middle where a small letter G resides on one and an M on the other. (Maria has bought them as Gareth Mallory and has not yet twigged that the M could also be her own name....) The second box, is rectangular, again black and square, it contains a silly gift. A card reads Well we do have a lot of lost time to catch up on x in Maria's handwriting. Beneath it are two new silk ties, and what looks like a card game. It's title Tic-Tac-To The Bedroom. The final box, also black but with a silver ribbon is rectangular, longer and thinner than the others. A recreation of Excalibur in letter opener form, with a little stand for it. No heart I know is true that is not put to the test. - Is engraved in small letters on one side. "I know letter openers aren't really the fashion any more but I thought it was nice, you can have it in the office. It's got a little stand for a display." Maria says from where she lingers in the dimly lit doorway, she's in her bathrobe, no point getting messy before work in the kitchen with breakfast then having to change again she thinks.

He stops in his tracks the second he notices the decorations. The balloons. The banner. The presents. Things he doesn't actually want - but still manage to put a smile on his face. Simply because Maria, the woman he has found again after all these years, has thought of him. Has ignored his complaints and pleas and just gone on to get him all this; to celebrate his birthday.
And frankly, he almost feels like a child again when he starts opening the wrapping paper and reveals one present after the other. Reads the card she has written him, over and over again, until he almost knows her words by heart.
He turns at her voice, smiling broadly. "It's perfect," Gareth admits, setting the card and letter opener back down on the counter and walking up to Maria. His arms move around her waist and pull her closer to him until his lips almost touch hers. Almost. "This meeting is a lot better than with the Prime Minister," he whispers, leaning in to tug her lips into a kiss. "Thank you. I...couldn't imagine a better birthday."

Ok, since I beat Silent Hill 3 last night and posted some first impressions a while back, I felt like it would be good to post my thoughts about Silent Hill 3 now that I have beaten the game. This will contain spoilers. Also, possibly more concerningly, my opinions. Feel free to agree or disagree with everything I express here. And remember, death threats belong in my asks, not the notes.
I also compare with Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 a lot, just FYI.
Firstly, the positives:
The atmosphere: It’s an early Silent Hill game, these games are amazing at creating spooky and unsettling atmospheres.
The horror elements: SH3 (like the other Silent Hill games I have played) shows a lot of restraint with its horror, its use of sound is exceptional in this regard. There are several areas in which the sounds alone make you feel like you’re in danger, with lots of banging, knocking, creaking, and growling which made me feel like something was about to jump out at me, Which is even better when you consider the fact that nothing ever actually does. You would think that I’d grow used to it and just ignore it, but I never did. This may have something to do with the fact I used headphones, and sometimes had to take them off to make sure that the sounds were actually coming from the game. That shit made my skin crawl and it really got into my head, which is awesome. The visuals are also top notch in this regard, scenes like the one in the Mirror room in Brookhaven Hospital are ones I’m not likely to forget anytime soon.
I like how it ties into Silent Hill 1, it was interesting to see that story continued, and a lot of the references landed. I do worry that this could make the story difficult to follow for somebody who skipped Silent Hill 1 though.
Heather Mason/Cheryl Mason/Alessa Gillespie is a great and very endearing protagonist. She has a lot more personality than her adoptive father Harry Mason ever did. However, protagonists are still only parts of larger narratives, I have some mixed feelings on this element of the game, I’ll talk more about that later.
Symbolism: Silent Hill 2 is partially so beloved due to its use of symbolism, all the monsters represent something about James himself, and the town of Silent Hill itself becomes a mirror for James, his guilt, his fears, and his desire for punishment for his actions. Silent Hill 3 doesn’t do anything nearly as deep as this, but it still contains symbolism in some of its enemies. Unfortunately, not all the creatures have definitive symbolism, which is a letdown, but the fact that there are still lots of enemies who represent things about Heather/Cheryl/Alessa is still pretty cool. And the Wheelchair imagery from the other games is still present.
Puzzles: Many of the Puzzles in Silent Hill 3 felt a little more intuitive than the ones in 1 and 2. I appreciate that. Not all of them, but most of them, and I think that’s a good change.
I really appreciate how the game used a lot of new environments, such as the mall/shopping centre, the train station, the construction site, and the office building. I just think it’s refreshing to see new places, and it makes revisiting old locations such as Brookhaven Hospital and Heaven’s Night from Silent Hill 2, and the Lakeside Amusement Park from Silent Hill feel a lot more impactful when they do show up.
This section was originally part of the symbolism paragraph, but it grew so fucking large that I had to make it it’s own section:
One big thing I want to talk about is the use of religious aesthetics usually associated with Christianity and Catholicism in SH3, because I think that element of the game is fascinating. (The religion of Silent Hill 3 isn’t Christianity, but even the game itself acknowledges its use of Christian symbolism through a readable book that states that Silent Hills religion changed a lot due to the influence of Christianity) When Christianity is usually involved in horror (especially western horror) it takes the form of religious horror focused on either narratives of satanic possession or “good people” being tempted by sin, or the inverse approach where god is evil and good people face the threat of fire, brimstone, and eternal damnation.
Silent Hill 3 doesn’t really do either of these. Silent Hill 3 is a Japanese horror game, and Japan is a nation in which Christianity is considered foreign, and evil christian (often catholic) coded religious organisations are a common media trope. The aesthetics of Christianity are used within this context, Christianity is not used as a sort of “default religion” like it is in Western media, it is used specifically as a religion that is understood as being strange, alien, and possibly dangerous. When Claudia talks about “Gods unending love and mercy”, “people being saved from their sin”, and “Gods eternal paradise”, it is supposed to be strange and ominous, and for an audience that isn’t used to those ideas being a part of religion it probably is (and they still are for an audience that is, probably just in a different way). I just think this is a really interesting element of the game. One thing I think a lot of Silent Hill fans find really endearing about the early Silent Hill games is the fact that despite being set in the US, they can still be just so unbelievably Japanese at times.
Like, Midwich Elementary School looks like the kind of American school you would see in a movie from the outside, BECAUSE IT IS! Only in looking things up while writing this did I learn that the look of Midwich Elementary School was likely based heavily on the school from the movie Kindergarten Cop, because Team Silent wanted their school to look American, and they used that film as reference. But in spite of that, the layout and floorplan of Midwich just still feels so Japanese. It’s legitimately amazing, I love it so much.
Things I have mixed opinions on:
While I like Silent Hill 3’s OST, at this point in time I feel like I prefer Silent Hill 2’s. This isn’t to say that the SH3 OST is bad, it certainly isn’t, it just didn’t have the same impact on me as the SH2 OST did. Maybe it will grow on me though. I hope it does.
While there were some parts of the story that were awesome (like Heather vomiting up God, only for Claudia to fucking deep throat the aborted fetus of God so she could give birth to her herself.) I have some problems with how Silent Hill 3 handled its narrative. I’m signposting this here to say that I did enjoy the game’s story, but I also think it was far from perfect, and I’m gonna critique it a fair bit later. I just want it to be clear that I don’t hate it, I just think it could have been a fair bit better.
The bosses: everybody who has played a Silent Hill game is probably aware that the bosses can be a little stinky sometimes, bosses are not Silent Hill’s forte, and I don’t think anybody would claim that they are. However, some bosses in SH3 like the Missionary weren’t actually that bad, and were in fact incredibly passable. However, some other bosses, like the Split Worm, were extra stinky and kind of sucked.
Now it’s time to get negative (Remember, all death threats go to my ask box):
Why is it such a straight line? One of the elements of Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 2 that I really enjoyed was actually running around Silent Hill. Even though those games were structured in a linear manner, you didn’t travel through them in a straight line like you do in Silent Hill 3. You traveled from location to location within Silent Hill, by moving through the town of Silent Hill itself. You pass by the same landmarks, occasionally run through the same streets, and overall while there is always somewhere you have to go to progress the story, you actually have to find your way there. You can frequently backtrack, and the only times you can’t are at the end of both games or when you are in a nightmare version of an area. Silent Hill 3 is a straight line, and I kind of hate that. All the areas themselves were cool, but you just kind of passed through each one, you never go back, and you never get to just travel and explore the place where you were. Silent Hill 3 feels so unbelievably railroaded in comparison to 1 and 2. And I found that really disappointing. Even when you get to Silent Hill you are given only an illusion of being able to do what you could in the town in the first two games. In reality, the chunk of Silent Hill we get presented with is a fancy entrance to Brookhaven Hospital that contains a cute reference in the form of Heavens night, and a big invisible door blocking you from going to the Lakeside Amusement Park until the game lets you. You get two streets to run around in and pretend you get to go somewhere yourself instead of just being driven there on the games invisible tracks. Hooray.
Why is the story paced like that? Legit the story itself isn’t that bad, but it feels bad for a huge chunk of the game because of how it’s paced. More than half the game is legitimately just “Heather goes home”. A little bit of story stuff happens at the beginning, and then there feels like there’s just a huge glut of fuck all smack bang in the middle of the game until everything starts happening at the end. Now look, when things do start happening it gets much better, but I’ve always been a firm believer in the fact that if I have to wait for your story to “get good” , than your story has a massive fucking issue that you need to fix as soon as you possibly can. The games pacing is bad.
The cast of major characters is incredibly small (there are only 4 characters who actually physically appear without also being dead), and even then it feels like half of them don’t get enough screen-time to matter. Douglas Cartland and Vincent Smith seem cool, but we barely even get to see them. It’s disappointing when your game’s cast mainly consists of 4 characters, 2 of which don’t get enough screen-time, when your game also contains a big chunk of nothing (of major narrative impact) as it’s middle. When you compare the cast of SH3 to the cast of SH2, a lot of these problems with SH3 become really apparent. Especially considering that these pacing issues are pretty unique to Silent Hill 3, and the fact that Silent Hill 3 also has the shortest story and least characters who are part of the main cast (from memory) out of the 3 games I’ve mentioned.
I wish they did more with Harry Mason, he’s literally just fridge stuffing in SH3. They had the chance to give him some actual personality, and yet they just didn’t. Huge missed opportunity IMO.
I died more to falling off of ledges than I did to the enemies themselves, this was not an issue I faced in SH 1 or 2. I personally am not sure if this is a real problem with the game or if it’s just a skill issue on my part. I’m not sure I’ll ever know. Fuck all those ledges though.
Concluding thoughts:
Silent Hill 3 is a good game, and after having written all this out it’s pretty clear that there are more things I like about the game than there are things I dislike. But also, the things I didn’t like REALLY bothered me. I’m actually about to start a play-through of Silent Hill 4: The Room. And I get the feeling that I’m either going to like it a lot or I’m going to despise it. It seems like it is also quite railroad-y. But honestly having the Apartment acting as a kind of hub space I always return too might be enough to make me ok with that. It’s going to be interesting no matter what though.
Also, I can see now why Silent Hill 2 is widely agreed to be the best Silent Hill game. That topic has already been done to death though, so I won’t get into it. If you’ve read through this whole thing than feel some slight satisfaction in knowing that you are likely the only person other than myself to ever have done so.

thought dumping without looking at my sources here BUT
i just dont get it right like the line in shoushitsu so VERY directly says "as long as you're a person the old world's legacy will continue in the toroidal direction" mea!ning! (based off other context in both shoushitsu & other songs like maximizer) so long as the characters continue to follow their paths of their own will & desire & don't think of it as only something they need to do or as the only relevant trait about themselves, then they still have their selves/egos and still are full people. and in that case that they're full people they're guaranteed to follow the path of the world into its next iteration, in other words, they get to keep living, or if u want to stick with the terms in shoushitsu they're "reborn" in the new world so to speak.
this isnt even speculation, this is shown to us in both the text in shoushitsu (the text thats like "she slowly closed her eyes, and i gently opened mine. a certain world had disappeared") and also the text in canon (about how she comes to in front of a fountain after it rained, implying the start of a new loop/world)
and even up to the end of oumen mokushiroku it's clearly tenshi still holds her own values, still has her wants & seems to be aware of herself. i dont know if the "'not me not me' those words didnt reach anyone" is referring to tenshi or apoptosis speaking, seeing as its implied apoptosis was the first to be chosen as a sacrifice until she pinned it on someone else (who happened to end up as tenshi). tenshi's hyper aware of time almost like how the laboratory character is, that hyper awareness that can only come with knowing an indisputable end is coming. she knows what's happening & can't find a way out of it. but that doesn't make sense to me. if she's still herself, if she stepped in to take apoptosis' place, that's her own judgement, protecting the other is her own goal in that case. i guess it's possible to only fall on tenshi if she's the one least likely to protest, but even of the event of being forced to be a sacrifice, even if she has to "accept" this fate, that's not real acceptance, that's not really throwing herself away in the sense that this series requires. i guess it can be stretched that far if needed since it seems like the only real option here, that she ended up giving up her own goals to fulfill a role the others demanded, thus became a "thing" rather than a "person" at the last minute. but even then that doesnt add up. shes crying over this. shes ACTUALLY crying over it. despite ALL the stress & psychological torment going on in the entire series, she's the ONLY one shown crying over it (yes several others are mentioned to cry. it only makes sense. they arent SHOWN that way however) & no one who's truly accepted a role, even this dire of a role, would really cry over it right? it's hard for her. her smile looks like it could break any second.
yet even for being an early song in the series, if she wasn't meant to be a "person" there's enough in the song to tie it to the series without it having the motif. the ou itself directly ties it to aru sekai shoushitsu & that's how a lot of people realize its related. the motif isnt really necessary to show its a series song. look at all the more recent songs that dont have it specifically to show the characters dead. so why is she singing hers. it feels like saying she's dying as herself truly, but then she should just wake up again like everyone else if that was the case. what makes it a sacrifice really and why is it different from how everyone else is dying?? the only other thing i can think of is that, if she's singing it, it's like a last wish of sorts. the sort of thing only meant for emotional impact. it's true that it's still the only song besides shoushitsu that has the motif sung instead of added to the instrumentals. i can't help but feel that has a meaning to it. maybe it is to say she's giving it up. i just don't know it doesn't make sense to me given the other details i feel like she should still get to live.
i mean both kyuuyaku and kannagi sing out the rute furute wo a line. touhikou doesn't but those two do. it doesnt seem to bind them to each other any more than it does touhikou.
so i just really don't know how i'm supposed to take the end of oumen. everything else, everything else seems to say she's dead. she's not coming back. the way she says she wishes they could meet again, the way she says everything goes dark. the way how in unplanned apoptosis, the song tied the closest to oumen, she falls apart even worse after the sacrifice is brought up. how in kanon shes deeply regretful over the fact a sacrifice ever occurred. everything else is saying tenshi's dead she's not coming back. except the fact the main motif to say a character lives is in the song. and the thing is, oumen and apoptosis seem to be all magu wants to give us regarding that particular incident. we might not get any more info on what happened there beyond those two. sure kanon's related too, but not as deeply, not enough to give any more clarity to this one situation. sure we get new unexpected info every new song, but coming back to these two feels so unlikely. it's like everything's here already, yet its still not enough to know everything.

The illusion of morality
You know, the first time I played DA2 (and even the second and third) I didn’t really like what Anders had done. I did understand why, but I didn’t approve, because I told myself “there are better ways to go about it than this”. But then several years passed, and I learned more things about the world around me and its history. When I placed Anders actions into the context of real life freedom movements, it suddenly made sense. Stonewall was a riot. Suffragettes were bombing places, and from the most recent ones: black people in America abandoned peaceful protests for the sake of the violent ones. We as minority groups try so hard to get our rights, to force our oppressors to see us as people peacefully. We spread awareness, we educate, we peacefully protest, and if you live in a country that is willing to listen that is enough, but when you live in a place like mine, where your oppressors cannot care less, you start feeling frustrated, because how long can you be rebuffed at every turn before you are forced to do something drastic? We like to tell ourselves that freedom movements should be above this. That they should be morally clean and peaceful, so we would not prove to our oppressors that “we do not deserve what we ask for” by acting violently. But in truth it is a double-edged sword, because our oppressors see it as a weakness they can use to stall our efforts until there is no longer anybody willing to do the work. They are counting on that we will get complacent, or tired and will stop pushing, and a lot of people would. Soon there would be only a few willing to continue, and our power as a movement would diminish. Only when we get violent people start to listen, or more like start to notice that there was a movement in the first place, and see what the oppressors are willing to do in order to stop us. How they are willing to kill us on the streets in order to scare us into compliance. The same happens to the Circle in Kirkwall. Anders is an unaffiliated apostate, but Meredith still decides to punish those who are innocent, those who were not responsible for what happened, by calling the Right of Annulment on the whole place. When you compare her actions to Anders, who blew up the Chantry with only guilty people inside, it is glaringly clear who is in the right and who is in the wrong. Don’t fool yourself that Grand Cleric Elthina was a nice old lady whose hands were tied. She was the most powerful person in the city, she gave Meredith power and then proceeded to ignore everything Meredith has done. Sisters from the Chantry never helped the poor, they just walked around the city collecting money from them to keep their church as huge and as golden as it possibly could be, while the people who donated starved to death. Templars who were with Elthina inside the Chantry were hardly innocent, considering how prone to abuses they were in Kirkwall specifically. But mages in the Circle? Whose only guilt was to turn to blood magic or into abomination out of feeling helplessly at a disadvantage? It is not something they can control in a system that takes away all their choices from them. It is like telling a starving man to not eat bread placed before him. They were innocent people and Right of Annulment caused such fear and discord that most of those innocent people turned into monsters, which would not happen if they were not put under such duress. They are not responsible for what happened to them, Meredith is, and Meredith would then use the fact that she victimized them as a proof that she is right in killing them all. She already tried to call for Annulment several times. It was due to her deteriorating mental state thanks to exposure to Red Lyrium, but do not kid yourself that Meredith was only abusive to mages after Red Lyrium entered the picture - she was like this long before it appeared. She allowed for Harrowed mages to be made Tranquil, that was considered illegal by the Circle standards, and she also empowered her Templars to abuse and terrorize mages since she was appointed. Anders' actions were just a convenient excuse for her to further target one of the most vulnerable groups in Kirkwall. Not to mention that without Anders actions, it is possible that mages would not see any change in how they are treated for several more years, maybe even a decade or two or another hundreds of years before someone snapped again. I believe that Anders actions were needed for the rights of mages to be finally taken into account, even if some of the mages do not approve and disagree with what he did. His actions forced them all into action, his actions resulted in a lot of deaths of said mages, but there can hardly be a revolution without this in a system that believes mages lives are expendable. If it was a different system maybe revolution would not be needed, maybe peaceful actions would be enough, but it is not a different system, it is a religious regime that forces regular people to fear mages, and keeps mages unwilling to fight by blaming said fear on them.
