jeez so many people send you asks in bad faith. like its clear by the wording or the passive aggressive use of emotes they either think they are making you consider something that you as a vegan have never heard or thought of before or just taking out their unjust anger at veganism on you. i'll never stop being amazed at how you able to handle those kinds of asks with such grace and understanding. thank you for being so calm with those kinds of people when most of us wouldn't have the energy too, hopefully the way you address them has some of these people rethinking some things!
I do get a lot of trap asks, and while I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and I always act like I don’t know that they’re in bad faith, I can usually identify when they are. What these people unintentionally do though, is just provide me with content and discussion points.
If they were more original and actually managed to expose a flaw in my reasoning or in veganism more generally, they’d be doing me a favour because I’d have the opportunity to consider it properly and correct it. When my inbox is busy I sometimes discard the particularly transparent ones because they shouldn’t take the spot of a genuine asker, but aside from that there is really no down side to answering them.
I’m honestly just thankful to them for helping to educate people on animal rights issues, and simultaneously allowing me to show other vegans how to respond to these sorts of loaded questions or challenges. They keep me in the know as to what the currently in vogue anti-vegan arguments are so I can direct my content appropriately, and it gives me the pretext to break these arguments down for my followers.
These anons get the attention that they clearly crave, and they get to feel heard for a minute. More importantly, they see how easily these points can be rebutted, so that they’re less likely to use them on vegan who is less experienced in dealing with it. It’s a win-win for everyone, so please keep them coming!

have you seen the new dune movies/have any interest in that universe? seeing paul join the fremen sietch made me think of your (absolutely awesome <3) eragon series, which in turn made me think of the fremen adopting and forced agere-ing him instead like in your series. which I suppose would be an overall happy ending for the universe since he wouldn’t cause billions of deaths then lmaooo (i do want to say i’m not trying to fish for a request; i just love the idea and wanted to share it since you’re my inspiration :D) anyway hope you’re having/had an excellent day!
I definitely need to watch those movies, because there's a Dune fanfic that I want to read.
I tried to watch the first one years ago, but it buffered on my TV and I gave up and just kind of forgot to try again, lol. But I will keep this in mind when I finally do see those! I'm really glad you liked my Eragon stuff. 😁

When you write fanfic and the majority of the time you only get no response or people telling you what they don't like, what they feel you are doing wrong or how your story doesn't cater to their needs as a reader rather than you know something positive in all your hard work and effort to be creative or to say what they do like about it.
This is why people stop writing fanfic. Writers are people too with often busy full lives who see fandom as an escape, as a fun safe place to explore their love of fandom with others and seeking out a community to embrace said fandom. They aren't AI bots with no feeling who only live to pour out content only to be met by silence or negativity. That's hurtful to all people including artists/authors who put so much into their works.
If you read something and like it and appreciate the person writing it please just tell the author because it might actually keep them writing more stories you love instead of just quitting with writing. You don't have to write them a lengthy response but a little positive goes a long way. Food for thought.

I do agree with Coda being our skrunkly but I am glad I also seem to be unorthodox and liked? I shouldn't be that surprised. I received a lot of fan emails, just that admiration wasn't described through a word like that.

So much content of this ship is made by antis and I don't want to suport them so thank you for making this story that I identify with

I’m such a sucker for all those things in a story and there just…. Isn’t a lot of it in the fandom, especially for ships like sebagni. I also am sad that antis love that ship so much, bc as wholesome as it can be, I also like exploring some darker aspects of Agni’s character.
I think it’s easy to see him as this perfect paragon, and maybe he did become that, but he wasn’t always that way, and even so, he was still human. I think antis especially like to pretend the “bad agni” that existed before Soma never existed…. But I think the fact that Agni wasn’t always so pure and saintly is part of why he such a loveable character.
I’m glad you can identify with the story, too (though I’m sorry if it’s bc you also deal with illness/disability and all the frustrations that go with it 🫂)…. I really didn’t ever intend to publish the story. At first, I was just gonna write it for myself as I desperately needed something to cling to with the absolute bullshit I’ve had to deal with in the last couple years (this year especially), but I am glad that I did opt to share it, as it does seem to have resonated with a niche group of people. <3
I’ll spend the next day or two on editing and formatting, so hopefully I can update officially on Wednesday. Unless something happens, it should absolutely be this week.
I’ve been really enjoying finally writing sebagni, so much so that if I am able to finish this story this year (that would be amazing if I could), I may try and start another sebagni piece, maybe one of my abandoned (put on the far back burner) ideas, or maybe another one in a similar vein…. I guess time will tell.
For now, I’m really enjoying the relationships in this fic, especially Seb & Tanaka and Seb & Agni ofc. But also Tanaka/Vince. In fact, I may end up doing a oneshot spin off that covers some of their relationship, like how they met, why they couldn’t be the couple/family Tanaka wanted, and how Vince died…. But it’s possible that may end up as part of Synch proper….
I have a semi-concrete idea of what the rest of the fic will entail, and I think it’ll be around 10 chapters. But so far it’s been surprising me, so it may be longer than that… but it’s not gonna be a fraction as expansive a story as WDH, so it is theoretically possible I could finish it this year.
I’m trying to take a laid back approach to this story, just write what I need to for my sanity and enjoy it as I go.
But I’m excited bc we’ll have two new characters to meet in ch 4!

Similarly on the design front as the one you gave me, Mimble looks extremely distinctive. What is more, he looks unmistakable - I think it outright impossible that anybody could mistake Mimble for someone else, and vice-versa.

Vegetarianism is actually how I found you and your blog and had my first major exposure to veganism and the truths of the animal ag industry!
If you're an empathetic person, it's quite easy to reject the meat industry. There's no real way around the death involved. It's easy to think "I don't want those animals to die" despite the social and cultural pressure to just go along with it as the way things are done.
The propaganda for the other industries is a little more insidious, I think. A lot of it appeals to the same sort of empathy that lead me to vegetarianism in the first place, while simultaneously preying on that desire to minimize the social backlash of rejecting meat.
It's okay to eat dairy, because those cows NEED to be milked and will suffer if they're not. (Nevermind who caused that need in the first place) It's okay to use wool because those sheep NEED to be sheared and will suffer if they're not. (Nevermind what we've done to make them need that) It's okay to eat eggs because those chickens are just laying eggs all day ANYWAY, something has to be done with them or they'll rot! (Nevermind why they overproduce so much or what happens when they decline) And on and on and on. The death involved is less overt and obvious at a glance. You don't have to kill them to harvest those products from them, after all. It's easy to think you're helping them and not dig too deep into what happens after.
Your blog and others like it was a wakeup call for me! You made me think about and dig into things I'd never been bothered to inspect too closely. You made me look into what I was really paying for. Once my eyes were open it was impossible to shut them again.
All this to say, I can understand quite well why so many people think vegetarianism is enough and veganism is "extreme"... and I thank you for the work you do!!
I’m glad my blog helped you see the issue a bit more clearly! I totally agree that animal products as opposed to animal flesh is much harder to connect with the exploitation involved, partly because there really is just this web of shared mythology surrounding happy eggs and cruelty free dairy that we all sort of agree not to think about too much or look at too closely.
It is only when we are confronted with the reality of it that we have to decide either to ignore it, to try to justify it to ourselves, or to really reflect on whether it aligns with our existing values. That is unfortunately the much harder option, and it’s also the option that involves reckoning with your own guilt and complicity. It’s our job as activists really to make sure that people are confronted with that reality and help them navigate their own response.
