The Deep by clppng
[Intro] Our mothers were pregnant African women thrown overboard while crossing the Atlantic Ocean on slave ships. We were born breathing water as we did in the womb. We built our home on the sea floor, unaware of the two-legged surface dwellers until their world came to destroy ours. With cannons, they searched for oil beneath our cities. Their greed and recklessness forced our uprising. Tonight, we remember.
[Verse 1: Daveed Diggs] Y'all remember how deep it go Started from the bottom Y'all remember how deep it go 'Fore y'all had to come back, deep Y'all remember when it used to be deep So deep, so, so deep, ayy When y'all swim up out yo' mama while y'all mama was asleep So deep, so, so deep, ayy And y'all remember when y'all had the dance floor lit, dark No two-step, deep, y'all don't even sweat, deep As deep as it gets Dreaming dead asleep and keeping time Y'all heartbeat, deep, y'all heartbeat, deep And all the fishes had they eyes bugged out Cause y'all dancing underwater and y'all don't get wet And the dark smelled sweet and y'all tails touch reef Y'all feed off the bottom, but now y'all remember
[Chorus: Daveed Diggs] Y'all remember Y'all remember
[Interlude 1] Pressure outside the vehicle: 832.2 bars
[Verse 2: Daveed Diggs] Y'all remember when the deep got hot when y'all move on up How y'all used to argue 'bout the water getting warmer Still y'all loved a little bit of light up in the deep So deep, so, so deep, ayy Y'all remember saying how it couldn't be them two legs Cause y'all came from two legs And y'all mamas would've loved y'all if they could've breathed But they wasn't ready for the deep So deep, so, so deep, ayy Y'all remember when the first blast came And the beat fell off and the dreams got woke And the light bent bad and the fishes belly up And them coral castles crumbled 'cause they wasn't quite enough And conversation used to break like the floor quake Like the bleached bones and the fin friends fled from they home But the blasts wouldn't stop 'cause they wanted black gold And them no-gills had to feel it 'cause they couldn't be told
[Chorus: Daveed Diggs] Y'all remember Y'all remember
[Interlude 2] Ocean salinity: 35 PSU. Water pH: 7.91
[Verse 3: Daveed Diggs] Y'all remember when the regime changed That no pleas, no calm seas, let the water rise So deep, so, so deep Oil slick upon the sleeper was an awful thing to realize If the two legs wanna wake the dead They gon' have to bring more fire, y'all is closer to the earth So deep and y'all was talking how to get up in they heads And got to bein' real inspired circumstances of the birth Has got y'all feeling like an army, better yet a navy And they gone gave y'all the blessing now y'all going crazy They live with green up on the surface but they ain't deep That pistol shrimp could knock a two-leg off his feet Y'all perfecting the steam void to rip up they ships They using sonar as second language, y'all fluent with it And all the dreamers is woke now, but nightmares swim But everybody hear that "bloop" know y'all coming for them
[Chorus: Daveed Diggs] Y'all remember Y'all remember
[Interlude 3] Surface water temperature: 308 Kelvin
[Verse 4: Daveed Diggs] Y'all remember when the call went out, ayy No deep, no more deep, sunshine Y'all remember when the call went out, ayy No deep, no more deep, sunshine Y'all remember feeling wind up on your skin No deep, no more deep, sunshine Y'all remember how it burned in the beginning No deep, ride on 'em, ride on 'em, ride on 'em Y'all remember seeing sun across the surface On the day that y'all first came up out the water, so, so deep How the breaking of the surface showed the sky without a border And the air was so much hotter, so, so deep How the woke dreamer screamed and it rose tides And the waves stretched up like a mountain high And the no-gills gasped and they closed eyes And they prayed to they gods and they asked why And then y'all cried too 'cause y'all recognized Mama In the faces of the ones that y'all would terrorize They were sisters and brothers They were the babies born up out the water Not connected to each other Not in knowledge of the one drop But they had to learn today Y'all had one shot, let the sun burn today Let them feel the dark even deeper today Make a two-leg a believer today Let them know that they done woke a sleeper from a sleep So deep That y'all been dancin' without any feet, so, so deep Here's the nerve that they struck with a blast That they broke with a drill, that they burnt with the gas Y'all remember, so deep, sunshine, ride on 'em Y'all remember, so deep, sunshine, ride on 'em Y'all remember, so deep, sunshine, ride on 'em Y'all remember when y'all had to let 'em breathe Ride on 'em, ayy

Recommendation of the week #2: '1312' by Pussy Riot
Play this if you're feeling quite disruptive. Pussy Riot has: 1) very political lyrics (as you can see by the title, they're not that fond of the police, to put it mildly), 2) pretty cool collabs (like this one), so do check them out if you haven't. Loved the rap part in Spanish, too!

Not Just Another Black Composer Compilation: Kellen Gray Revives Neglected American Masterpieces
LINN CKD 731 For the humble listener, a musician’s technical and interpretive performance skills are one of the most compelling reasons to buy a concert ticket or a recording of said musician. But your humble reviewer has another, perhaps equally important reason for investing time and money in the work of a musician. And that skill is what I like to call “musical radar”. It is the (sometimes…

grandson - Dirty [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
Lyrics:
Is it time to lead or is it time to die? Time to raise hell or walk on by? Is there anybody out there that's payin' attention? Yeah, yeah Is it time to speak up or time for silence? Time for peace or is it time for violence? Is there anybody out there that's payin' attention? Yeah, yeah Tell me what you tryna hide And what you runnin' from inside 'Cause I got a surprise We might not make it to the mornin' So go on and tell me now Do you have enough love in your heart To go and get your hands dirty? It isn't that much, but it's a good start So go and get your hands dirty Do you love your neighbor? Is it in your nature? Do you love a sunset? Aren't you fed up yet? Do you have enough love in your heart To go and get your hands dirty? Yeah, yeah To go and get your hands dirty I got a skeleton under the floorboard I got a secret I need you to keep Run away, run away, you have been forewarned I don't wanna go off in the deep If we don't do somethin', we'll be stuck up in the mud again Don't wanna mess it up 'cause I want everything and nothing at all I've got a feeling when they walkin' on the ceilin' That the people needed healin' and they know Tell me what you tryna hide And what you runnin' from inside 'Cause I got a surprise We might not make it to the mornin' So go on and tell me now Do you have enough love in your heart To go and get your hands dirty? It isn't that much, but it's a good start So go and get your hands dirty Do you love your neighbor? Is it in your nature? Do you love a sunset? Aren't you fed up yet? Do you have enough love in your heart To go and get your hands dirty? Yeah, yeah To go and get your hands dirty Is there anybody out there that's payin' attention? Is there anybody out there that's payin' attention? Is there anybody out there that's payin' attention? Is there anybody out there? (There, there, there, there, there, there) So go on and tell me now (oh) Do you have enough love in your heart (Do you have enough love in your heart?) To go and get your hands dirty? It isn't that much, but it's a good start (a good start) So go and get your hands dirty Do you love your neighbor? Is it in your nature? Do you love a sunset? Aren't you fed up yet? Do you have enough love in your heart To go and get your hands dirty? Yeah, yeah To go and get your hands dirty

Sex Gang Children - Death Mask Mussolini (OLIGARCH, 2021)
Suicide and weeping wounds
Clever dick after money
Net jet connected set
It's a Saudi affair.
Don't say you love me
Don't tell me that, no.
Super why super high
Into the mouth of hell
clini come baby clone
Breakdown Britain all alone.
Don't say you love me
Don't tell me that, no.
Cutter and bone in the beauty of the world
shock therapy is your pain so wonderful?
Oh sweet madness here I am.
Here I am.
Death mask Mussolini, death mask Mussolini
I'll wear my best face.
Death mask Mussolini, death mask Mussolini
I'll wear my best face.
Don't say you love me, don't tell me that, no.
November 17 in the sick bed of the world
Militia babes in the cornfields of ballet.
The religion of life doesn't come with a knife
With a handful of stars we create who we are.
Death mask Mussolini, death mask Mussolini
I'll wear my best face.
Death mask Mussolini, death mask Mussolini
I'll wear my best face.
Dream eater mouth open wide,
Oh darling curb yourself
Death mask Mussolini.

Talkin about my upcoming album, "Ganymede Gives Up The Ghost" day 4!
Today is a big one. The song is called "Prey For Vengeance!"
This is one of my favorites on the album. It's about predators. No. No it's about prey. It's about people who have been hurt taking back their power. It's about understanding the fundamental elements of what makes someone hurt people, recognizing the cycle of violence, and making the choice about where to direct that energy. Sonically, I wanted this song to sound like you're hearing snippets of the Red Hot Chili Peppers during a political rally, and I think I really nailed that.
And this picture? A dead ringer for someone who hurt me quite a bit. And no, it's not Eminem, Marshall has never hurt me lol
A sample of the lyrics:
"Bill got mall rats, me and Trixie
Got in my guts and made me guilty
Cocaine, no brain, silly Billy"
This song is for everyone who's ever been prey in any form. May you one day taste predator flesh.
Got questions? Thoughts? Lemme hear it, let’s talk! Tell me about your own “Silly Billy” and how you’d take your vengeance idk how do normal bands do engagement? Lol

Treemonisha Wasn’t the Only One, James P. Johnson’s Lost Operas.
Naxos 8.669041 Regular readers of this blog are doubtless aware of my “underdog” interests. Whether suppressed by fascist regime, (as in London Records “Entartete Musik” series and Chandos “ARC”ensemble recordings), or just somehow eclipsed by more “spectacular” (by which I mean, “producing a spectacle” like Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring) but, as exemplified by Cedille Records’ “Avant L’ Orage”,…

"Abraham, Martin, and John" - Marvin Gaye
1969 Written by Dick Holler
An entry in Let's Do It, my personal favourite singles from 1954-76.
The pain of a society in great turmoil.
Dick Holler wrote the song in '68, in memory of Martin Luther King Jr and Robert Kennedy, drawing comparisons with John F Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln. All four men had been assassinated in the 60s (albeit Lincoln in the 1860s). Dion recorded a folk rock version with electric organ and flugelhorn, it was heartfelt and meaningful, but could be construed as a white guy talking over Black men.
Tumblr media
Marvin Gaye was the Black man to step up and speak. With an orchestral backing by Norman Whitfield, Gaye brings the message to life. He was deeply affected by the tragedies, the ongoing struggle for Black liberation, but had never quite had the opportunity to voice his message thanks to Motown's "politically neutral" policies. Gaye was also mourning for Tammi Terrell, his regular duet partner, who had collapsed on stage with an undiagnosed brain tumour.
Eventually, Marvin Gaye would voice all the anguish, all the pain in the groundbreaking "What's Going On?" album. That the album still resonates today is a damning indictment of society. "Abraham, Martin, and John" is a crucial staging point on the road to that album. It demonstrates how Marvin Gaye was prepared to risk his career for something he believed in. We'd later call that punk.
