Hello!

I hope I'm not being invasive by posting this ask.

My names is Zade and I run a blog dedicated to Baldur's Gate 3.

Both the game and its fandom have a huge racism issue.

About the game: There is only one black core companion in the game, Wyll, whose story ties directly to the events of the game. He is a textbook prince charming. He also is the companion with the least amount of content and a lot of it is bugged. The writers even publicly mock him and dismiss the issues he faces in-game (he is subdued by a devil that is white-coded). Fans have been sending reports to the developpers for months and are consistently ignored in favour of fans of the more popular (white) companions/NPCs.

A new patch was released a few days ago where Wyll was once again sidelined. This led to a lot of outrage and some responses to that outrage tap directly into the fandom's antiblackness.

About the fandom: Since the game was released, gamers have repeatedly dismissed Wyll as being boring and go to great lenght to justify why they don't interact with him. They purposefully ignore the fact that the character was rewritten late in production in-part because people who played the beta version of the game couldn't handle him having flaws and depth. As of today, he is the least represented in fanarts and posts concerning him will generally receive less engagement than those featuring his white counterparts.

It's no mystery that a lot of Wyll's fans are POC. Those same fans are consistently called aggressive and hostile by the white fandom when they demand that all main companions are treated with the same amount of care. They refuse to see the racism the only black companion faces both inside and outside the game. Our reactions and demands are described as disproportionate and entitled.

I thought this ongoing issue could be of interest to you.

After reading the tags on your latest post I was wondering if it would be possible for you to make a brief overview of the iffy tropes/details your sensitivity reader helped you pick up on? Of course it wouldn't replace doing research ourselves, but I'd love to hear about it regardless!

Have not run it by them yet because it is in no fit state for human consumption at this point; the tropes are just from reading their blog + others on Tumblr + general Internet research including the excellent "blind people walk you through normal activities from their perspective" videos on YouTube. But off the top of my head:

Face touching. Where the blind person gropes someone's face to see? Sighted people made that up. I rewrote a chapter in Towards the Sun when I realized that one. Which makes sense, because why would a blind person be any more inclined to run their hands all up in your facial juices. Eww.

Negating blindness with magic and pretty much ignoring the blindness henceforth. Which is why Zuko isn't going to learn to see with firebending. There are very interesting discussions on how Toph herself fits and doesn't fit into this trope; finding them is left as an exercise for the reader.

Token blind character, AKA only having one blind person in the narrative who represents All Blind People. Going to have a few blind NPCs running around, with various levels of sight and accommodations, to thoroughly negate this one.

Being Depressed and/or Overly Inspirational about the blindness. AKA character devotes a large chunk of the story to bemoaning their blindness, with bonus inspirational "overcoming" at the end. Think about how it would feel if the majority of characters like you spent vast word counts hating the thing that makes them like you. And then solving it, in a way you can't, so they don't have to have the tragic fate of Being Like You. ...So Zuko is not getting cured, and he's also not wasting much time wallowing in an angst puddle.

Etc.

Basically, I want this to be a story that low vision folks can read and go "that was fun and less offensive than 70% of actual media representations", and sighted people can go "that was fun and hopefully I internalized some positive things that will make me less likely to grab a blind person's arm and forcibly Help Them Cross The Road, Try To Pet Their Dog (and Get Huffy When Asked to Please Not), or Call People Out On Not Being Blind Because They Don't Fit The Stereotypes".

#I am never going to claim to be an expert on this topic #but I'm pretty sure I can do it better than 70% of writers actually getting paid to write a blind character #which says less about my research skills and more about how media favors sighted-friendly interpretations of blindness #worst story I've come across is the blind actor who didn't get a role playing a blind person #because they came off as too competent at navigating the set #surely no sighted person would believe that this actor was actually blind!#...yep #avatar the last airbender #atla #blind Zuko #no specification necessary Toph #actual low vision folks please feel free to correct anything in this post #or my stories in general #it was reader feedback that got me to fix that Towards the Sun chapter #and it is a far better chapter for it

I follow some people who talk about baldurs gate 3, and the way the fandom almost largely goes out of its way to babygirl everything astarion does while refusing to give the same leniency to the far less evil characters is baffling.

I feel like Gale, Wyll, and Lae'zel are the ones who often make this the most clear. Under the cut.

Whether it's because of the glitch pre console release or just a general refusal to engage with his story, people like to paint this picture of Gale being some Narcissistic abuser who is only ever power hungry. I've seen people try and justify mystra's actions. Now even if Gale was a young adult when Mystra came to him, Mystra is his goddess. She's in charge of the weave. She had so much more power over him, student/teacher and boss/underling relationships are so looked down upon because of that inherent power imbalance. And I think there's also an implication that this is relatively normal for all versions of mystra to do to younger men.

Elminster isn't free of criticism because he actively brought a young Gale to be groomed into becoming a pawn for Mystra. Gale gets discarded by mystra for his seeming ambition and wants to move on, but is also still desperate to please her in anyway he can, and she tells him to kill himself. I don't understand how people go through his plotline and see him believing the only way he's useful is dead and then just assume he's just power hungry. Is he a bit full if himself? Yes. He's a wizard. They're like that. But he's not the worst person in the world, and he's definitely not the one people should claim as the abuser in his relationship with Mystra.

People call Wyll boring, some paint this idea of him being holier than thou/looking down on everyone around him. Since he was 17 Wyll has given his whole life to protecting people and trying to be a hero. He's self sacrificial, thrown out by his father for making a pact he only made to save the city he adores. Wyll talks so much about baldurs gate. He wants to return.

Wyll has his body altered unwillingly for doing the right thing and yet he never once regrets it. He's made into a devil, the creatures so many of the npcs and companions loathe, for his kindness. He's constantly tricked and mocked by Mizora who we know from the game was sent by Zariel to corrupt a good hearted person. Even still, Wyll is a kind and honest man. He's charming and a bit cheesy but that's fine. Wyll can be incredibly self sacrificial and stubborn in his morals, but if you're running around doing mean things to impress Astarion, you can't blame Wyll for not liking your character and judging you. He's a hero of the people, of course he'd stand with them. We also need to remember he got so heavily redone that he has barely 6 hours of in-game content now. Which is abysmal compared to everyone else.

Lae'zel was raised by a cult, a cult that spans all her people where they're taught to bow and serve a lich queen who promises them glory if they're good enough. She can be harsh and unfriendly, but we need to remember she's the one most aware of what the tadpole can do and with that in mind we know she's very desperate to get things done and cure herself. Next to astarion she's the most evil aligned origins companion, and even still so much of that is due to being brainwashed into a certain belief.

Lae'zel in canon is the youngest companion, very early 20s and it often shows. She's a skilled warrior who doesn't see the need for statements that are already obvious. She's been beaten into shape and filled with ideas that unless she's perfect as the creche commands then she is worthless. She's scared and alone in act 1 with people who most likely don't care about it the same way she does. Lae'zel is imperfect like all the other companions, but if you're willing to accept that astarion is soft under all his bluster, why can't you do the same for Lae'zel?

I don't hate Astarion, I liked him a lot my first playthrough, he was my main romance. But the way the fandom ignores that he's definitely evil in act 1 and 2 because "I just don't see him that way", how people act like he's the only character in the cast who was abused when abuse and the cycles of it are the main theme of the game, how people willfully misunderstand his ascension ending and paint it as his good one when the writers state repeatedly it's not, the way the fandom will insult and demean other characters for jabbing at astarion's trauma but applaud him when he does the same exact thing, when they ignored his racism towards gnomes and gur (which is anti Romani racism repackaged). There's also a chance that in his time, Astarion was a corrupt politician, something making his death more complicated but also adding interest to it that a lot of his fans want to ignore to make him pure.

Astarion isn't perfect, none of the companions are. And they're not supposed to be. But his special treatment by fans is becoming so incredibly tiresome to see.

thank you so much for asking he's one of my favoritest guys in the world ok so

oldies who have been here since the lovecore swag showdown and perhaps those who were here for the deep sea fish tournament may remember the oc i put into the lovecore showdown, amedeo. for those of who don't, the basic rundown is amedeo is a gamer who is so obsessed with being a perfect friend and getting people to love him he gets manipulated and turned into a demon and ends up killing one of his friends before hitting his redemption arc.

for those of you who were here last time and paying attention, you may also remember the oc i put in the doomed by the narrative tournament, eden. she is a normalcore girl who ends up discovering her world is a video game and she is simply an npc. and now she's actively falling into a spiral of helplessness as she tries to help the player escape reality while never giving a fuck about her well being or whether or not she can be considered a real person.

both of these ocs are from the same story. other members of the cast include: the guy amedeo killed who now haunts their electronics and gets a sick robot body, a demon from the monster realm who is the first monster to set foot in the human world in a good while and ruins the world by refusing to do his job as player 1, an assassin who is also the lead/drummer of his band and got paid like 3 bucks to go kill the last guy and he was just fine with it, player 2 of the game who is in a death spiral and WILL delete as much of the game as they can if they don't finally escape, a tv head robot monster guy who is part of the aforementioned band and can't be normal about his crush on the assassin so he just starts mind controlling people in an attempt to kill him, amedeo again i cannot stress enough how much of a freak he is i love him. all of these characters end up involved in complicated plotlines revolving around the center of the story, the gamer club that most characters are part of. they turn into demons, get killed by demons, face the complex morality of being a person, face the complex morality of being a bunch of code in a video game, and more.

and then there's kazooie.

kazooie is a 24-27 year old transgender aroace man who runs the gamer club. he is a solid 5'3. his main hobby is gaming. he acts a little bit like a prick but he's always making sure the members of his club are having a great time. he named himself kazooie because he is autistic and his first fixation was on banjo kazooie. he lost his leg around his tweens and he does not feel very strongly about it, it's just a thing that happened to him.

the most exciting thing that ever happens to him in this entire fucked up convoluted story, is the assassin can't find his original target but kazooie was right there so he figured he'd just kill kazooie and call it good, which kazooie then got out of by talking fast enough about music for the assassin to start rambling about his band and want to be friends instead.

that's it.

kazooie's most important trait for the plot is that he runs the gamer club so he is involved with a lot of the plot but also everything just barely misses him by a couple inches and he mainly just has a normal day while his friends are out here experiencing the most bullshit buckwild experiences possible. and i Love Him. he's everything to me. he is so sweet and lovely and full of mischief and he's so silly and he loves his role and tries so hard to make the best of everything. he is just some guy and its what everyone needs so bad. in the middle of all the chaos, kazooie is always there scheduling club meetings so everyone has a moment to breathe and play some games together. he is so fucking normal.

NPC dialogue with my builder

It's been so long since I'm thinking about the NPC dialogue of my builder, but I finally finished it !!

"Cookie" is a new resident at Sandrock. She works with Doctor Fang as a veterinary voluntary, but have to work as a builder too in order to be able to live. She's very clumsy and airhead, but always in a good mood. Her positivity seems to be contagious.

Introduction :

Hi ! Everyone here called me by my nickname Cookie. Nice to meet ya ! I'm a part-time builder and I'm working at the clinic as a veterinary twice per day ; the Monday and... No. Hum.... Tuesday and Thursday... No that's not it... Wednesday and Friday...?

Just come at the clinic and see if I'm here.

Birthday :

My birthday ? It's... Ah ! The 27 autumn ! You're not oblige to remember it. Sometimes I forget it myself.

Acquaintance :

- If you need something, don't hesitate to ask me. But I don't guarantee that your craft will be in a good state... Well, if you're too scared to see my broken craft and be disappointed, ask to Mi-An.

Buddy :

- Please, if you see Yan... Can you tell me I'm working into the mine ? During this time, I will wandering around searching for some animals and play with them.Oh. wait. I was not supposed to say that.

First of all, taking care of the other. Animals or human. Secondly... I like playing pranks. As long as I don't get caught. I'm always running away from Yan. I don't know how he always knows it's me !

Asked about her favourite things :

I love collecting cute things !! If you come to my house you will see that I have more plush than machines... B-but don't tell this to anyone ! They may see me more as a child...

Relationships thoughts :

Elsie : She's one of my best friend ! We have so much in common, like our love for animals, and pranks. She's the one who always gets me into it ! Ah... And I'm always the one who can stop her. She's used to seeing me running towards her with some wild animals behind me that I tried to become friends with, and she's always helps me to calm them down. I still want to believe that every animals can become your friend.

Fang : First he's appears to me as a very cold person. He reminds me my mother in a kind of way... I was really wary in the beginning. But with some times, I see in him a very kind person, who cares about others. Just like my master... It's one of the reasons why I asked him to become his apprentice. He heals humans, I heals animals. Well, I haven't finished my studies in veterinary, but his methods of heals are very interesting ! I work at the clinic when he's not here, Wednesday and Friday.

Because we are colleagues, I always call him "Doctor Fang".

He's not very talkative, but his silence is peaceful and his presence alone is comforting. No need to talk to convey emotions.

His behaviour suggests that he's been through a difficult stuff, so I try not to touch him, or go behind his back, as this might frighten him. When he's feeling bad, I feel so... Useless. The only thing I can do is to stay by his side, and ask him "Tell me what you feel." In this way, he began to open up to me. Thanks for trusting me Doctor Fang.

X : He's my very first friend when I arrived to Sandrock. It's so much easier to talk and confess your pain to an animals. Animals are pure, trustworthy. When I'm too shy to talk to someone, or when I see someone sad, I ask X to carry a small paper with a message on it. Usually I wrote jokes, funny or comforting quotes so that I can see someone smiles reading it. My favourite thing is to do it with Fang. Ah, I never get tired to see him laughing to my messages !! That's because he doesn't dare laugh in front of me...

Mi-An : She's one of my bestie ! She helped me a lot when I came here, searching for a job. I asked Yan to become a builder to earn some money and be useful, and Mi-An taught me everything. She's very patient towards me because I fail everything I build, but erm- When we first hanged out, we saw that we have a lot of things in common ! I really trust her. She's one of the few people I've been able to open up to.

Ernest : He's very kind, and pretty, but... I'm really scared of him. N-not of "him" personally! But you know, he's a writer, journalist and... I'm terrified that he found some information about me... Before Sandrock. I tried to run away from my old life, starts a new one. I can't forget what happened to me before, but... I can just close my eyes and pretend that everything will be okay. I couldn't bear it if my old life caught up with me to the point of destroying my new one. Sorry Ernest to be so cold towards you !

Yan : Like a lot of people, I don't like it. He treats everyone like sh- I mean, he treats everyone like nothing. Okay, he can treat me like this because I'm a Newbie like he said, but he can't act like this towards Mi-An ! She's very strong, determined, she works very hard and Yan never congratulates her ! Unforgivable.

More of that, he scares me a lot. Especially when he's angry. Like, every time ? I always try to avoid him with different methods. Like hiding, disguise or just run away. The only times I approach him with more than 10 meter is to prank him. Hey ! He always says "He who loves well, punishes well" so here it is. Sorry.

A moment till you’re gone~

(This is my first time writing sagau, please bear with me, this is fem! Reader, because I don't know how to write gn! Reader, and I don't want to offend anybody, will make a part 2)

Pt.1/Pt.2

SAGAU Cult AU, IMPOSTER AU, DELAYED GOLDEN BLOOD AU, DYING! READER, ANGST

T.W: Mentions of gore, past torture, blood, trauma, past trauma, injuries, cussing, cult behaviors, and etc. You have been warned.

How many days have you've been running? Hiding from them? You don't know, you've lost count, a long time ago, and you don't want to remember when was the last time they caught you. All you ever wanted was to explore teyvat before your time runs out, not to be hunt down like some wild animal.

You've always got a weak heart, literally and figuratively, making you tired more easily, had a hard time of breathing, chest pain, (which scares your family sometimes) and occasionally low on blood, your parents tried to find a cure or even expand your life even just a little bit, but to every doctor, hospital your family ever gone, came up with a same result.

You only had 2 months to live, your family mourn for your short life, same goes to your friends, you are only saddened by the fact you can't enjoy your life a little longer. That's why you are so kind to everyone, so forgiving to everyone, because you want to enjoy your life to the fullest, without regrets, you want to make every moment joyful, even if you only had a short time.

Genshin was your comfort game, and your all time favorite, second being (your 2nd fav. Game anything but horror games, because you can easily faint with just only a jump scare) your best friend was the one who introduce you the game, you love everything in the game, the graphics, the animation, the story, the landscape, the characters, the npc, simply everything.

Till you got transport into teyvat, thinking it was just a dream, you happily walk the way to the city of monstdadt, only to be greeted by angry knights pointing their weapons on you, calling you an imposter.

Wide eyes from both shock and fear, you hastily flee away from them, looking back to see not only the knights, but the people of Mondstadt chase you, angrily yelling 'imposter!' 'hunt her down!' 'some imposter is copying her grace looks!'

Her grace? Who's her grace? You don't even know they exist in the game! And copying their looks? How could you even copy their looks when you were born like this? You thought as you run faster than before, you can feel your heart spiking from adrenaline (which is not good because of your weak heart), only for you to stumble down upon a hill.

"Your grace!" A feminine voice was heard, you look around to see where the voice came from. "...Amber?" You hesitantly ask as the outrider beam in happiness, you spoke her name, she giddily thought as she helps you stand up, you greedily breathe in the air, Amber look at you with worry.

"Your grace, are you alright?" Amber ask as she gently rubs your back.

"Yes... I'm fine-" You were caught by Amber who suddenly push you down, dodging that anemo blast from a certain acting grandmaster. Recovering from that sudden attack you then turn your head towards the female knight who almost killed you, with fear evident in your eyes.

"Jean! What are you doing?! Are you trying to kill her grace?!" Amber yelled at the knight who glared heatedly at you.

"That imposter is not our grace, Amber!! To think you were manipulated by this imposter, thinking she is our grace. I cannot just stand here and watch as the imposter do whatever she wants!!!" She exclaim as she dash forward towards you ready to stab you with her r5, lvl 90 aquila favonia sword only to be blast away with a spark of electro.

Both you and Amber turn your heads towards the electro sparks, only to see Lisa with her r5 lvl 84 Skyward Atlas, catalyst.

"Lisa.../Lisa!!!" Both you and Amber said simultaneously. Lisa look at the both of you and smile. She then narrowed her eyes at Jean who slowly recovered from the attack.

"I'm sorry, Jean... But I cannot let you hurt our grace anymore." Lisa firmly said as Jean look at her with shock, then betrayal.

"To think you've also manipulated Lisa to do your biddings, such an evil imposter, I cannot let you live any longer." She angrily said, as she charge again towards you, Lisa stops her again the second time.

"What are you doing just standing there, Amber?!?! Lead her grace away from here!!!" Lisa ordered as she dodge a slash from Jean, Amber who snap out of her trance, grabs you on the hand and runaway from the fight.

Okay so the online community is basically non-existent (screaming crying throwing up) but if you're interested in non-mainstream dnd type actual-plays I need you to check out Tabletopnotch right now I'm so serious. Their first campaign was in a homebrew world, it's called A Peak Beneath The Veil, they have bite-sized recaps about ten minutes long if you can't make it through full episodes (about three hours), BUT I've been watching their new campaign called Brunkhollow and I'm completely obsessed.

Brunkhollow is a low-magic campaign, where most magics disappeared (wiped off the planet by the gods?) years ago, and only Clerics use magic. They're highly regarded as Bad News, so make sure you don't run across one! In any case, Brunkhollow centres around this group of people arriving in a new town called, you guessed it, Brunkhollow! This town is only about a year old, and is surrounded by something called the Cusp, which is important to remember when travelling there, as Brunkhollow is known as a "blind-spot to the gods", and no magic or Clerics can be found here. It's a godless place, and gives big Deadwood vibes honestly. Everyone here is trying to get by, find work, start a business. It's said that the only reason anyone comes to Brunkhollow is because "they're either running from something or coming to find someone".

Anyways the DM is amazing, the way he truly inhabits each NPC as he plays them, the physicality and descriptions and voices are just stellar, all the player characters are amazing and I love them, I always think I have a favourite and it changes every twenty minutes or so, I'm only on episode four but I've been watching bits and pieces via YouTube shorts and Instagram for months, seriously the props and the maps and the roleplay and the battles, it's all so good, please go check them out!! They're on YouTube, Twitch (they stream on Sundays!), they have a Discord server which is the most active place for fans, and a TikTok which they also stream on and post clips to!

I'll never stop singing their praises okay they're so so good I'm proud of them??? Seriously you won't regret checking them out they're so fantastic I'm obsessed

When I first started reading SitO I had no idea who Jackson was and when I looked him up and saw he was the guy you play in the nuke mission in the original MW I was so glad to see you use him because the part where he dies was one of the only two scenes I remembered from that game. Recently I learned there were scrapped mission objectives that were going to have him survive the nuke. Now all I can picture is Jackson's survival being a well known thing in military circles and him making cracks about it to other people because whose gonna tell the guy that got nuked he can't joke about it? "Gaz please, this mild fever is nothing compared to the heat of the nuclear bla-" followed by Gaz trying to suffocate him with a pillow. He and Ghost start trying to out dark humor each other about their trauma while everyone around them is horrified.

Roach has been dealing with this for years (Roach has Jackson in his contacts as "🍄☁️" and Roach is in Jackson's phone as "🔥🪳" no one but them and Ghost think that its funny)

I also know Jackson would drop a "Where's another nuke when you need one" when he's in any situation that he doesn't want to be in lmao

Also I've lowkey been very surprised at how many people have told me that they didn't know Jackson before reading my fic. I really shouldn't be surprised since he only has like 4 missions though andjfnnfnf

It lowkey makes me wonder if there are people who think/thought that Jackson was an OC when I first introduced him. ALSO I WISH THAT JACKSON LIVED OMG

Fun facts about when I played Jackson's missions:

When I got to his first mission it took me like 30 minutes to do because I didn't realize I wasn't playing as Soap anymore (I talk a lot while playing games and was not paying attention bdbfjfnf)

So they're calling for Jackson to go do things and of course I don't realize I'm Jackson, so in my head I just have to wait for this npc to do something before I can continue. So for like 30 minutes I'm sitting there listening to them scream for Jackson to do something and I'm like "Damn this Jackson guy needs to get his shit together this is taking forever"

Then eventually I just went and did it and they were like "good job Jackson" and I was hit with the sudden realization of "oh shit I'M JACKSON"

Also after the Nuke cutscene happened, I was still like chilling and legit said outlook to myself "wow, I wonder how his next mission is going to handle this" like two seconds before they flashed the KIA on the screen sjdnfnnfnf

I am also deeply chaotic while playing Jackson for some reason like I full on do the dumbest shit while playing his missions snfjfbbf it took me forever to get through them on veteran cause I kept getting run over by the tank lmao

IMAGINE THIS

Once word spread around the school that the hapoy go lucky Prefect of Ramshackle dorm has had a mental breakdown. Something odd occurs somethung no kne would expect One can even call it magical. One week after Yuu's breakdown an odd grouo of visitors cime to the run down house it isnt the staff nor their friends its some students form heartslaybul carrying a gift basket and they drop it off in front of the prefects door and befire they keave they exclaim how happy they that the prefect fixed heartslaybul and made it into a place worth living and spending the rest of their schoold days in. Shocking but it isnt the end the next day savanaclaw boys specifically from Leonas spelldrive squad come and oay their respects to fhe prefect for guvubg their leaddr back his motivation and it doesn't end their as for the next coming days almost every house has come to pay their respects to prefect and say their thanks to them for helping their dorm. It even extended to RSA with their spell drive team with Neige and Chenya to also come and say that them training to have a rematcg with Night raven is meaningless if they dont have the orefect their to be the teams leader.

During all this the prefect lay in their house shocked at hearing all of this they never knew they were this respected considering how they were treated by all the students before and isnt really sure how to feel

All the houses students plus some RSA students come to ramshackle ti guve yuu their sincere appreciation for their effort

Yuu definitely deserves some appreciation for the shit they did and went through, especially when they almost lost their lives while trying to make sure no one loses their own.

I actually do have some ocs based on some npcs and rsa ocs so imagining this with them + Neige cuz I love him duakdnajs IT'S SO CUTE! Just on by one, the prefect gains a new friend and was thanked for everything they've done, people they don't know or would've never expected to come did. And they left a warm sensation in Yuu's chest, when Yuu lays on thier bed, looking at the flowers, chocolates, and other gifts they were given, they made a decision, and grab their phone.

It was an awkward mood, it took too long and so many things have changed, but Yuu was seen hanging with their friends after weeks of being alone, and Yuu couldn't thank those visitors enough for their gratitude and kindness.

Theres stuff that can't get resolved quickly, and Yuu is still tired and stressed– especially with the amount of schoolwork they have missed. But once in a whole, when Yuu looks at the flowers they have taken care of, or the jewelry amongst the other gifts, a smile can be spotted when they are reminded of a fond memory.

Okay y'all it's finally here. Palia is here, and I am free of the NDA!

So, what is Palia?

Palia is a cooperative MMO game, where the focus is on helping each other, not competing. Did you shoot one of the sernuk but it got away? If someone else shoots it, you *both* get to loot it, and you will *both* walk away with the spoils.

There are some things were you actively *need* to cooperate, or you're not getting things (Flow-Infused trees that regen their health too rapidly for one person alone, Proudhorns that *teleport* for example.)

There aren't traditional dungeons. You will not be facing monsters, or saving the world.

The Majiri, the people of Palia, believed humans were extinct. Except suddenly we're all popping out of the woodwork now! Instead of being greeted with suspicion or hostility, you are met with friendly curiosity and gentle concern from the Majiri who call Kilima and Bahari Bay (the two zones you can play in) their home. They set you up with a plot to live on that you can expand, and ways to help yourself, and the people around you.

The name of the game is cooperation. With maybe a little mystic mojo thrown in. What you'll mostly be doing with your days and nights is...

Wait for it...

Whatever the hell you want.

There are quests, don't get me wrong. you get them via improving your relationship with NPCs, and also stumbling onto things in the wild (I have a food recipe I've been trying to complete since my second day...), but for the most part, you can literally fill your day with whatever you want. You wanna go fish all day? Go fish! You wanna participate in some good-natured (respawning) deforestation so you can build furniture for your home? Go nuts.

As your skills build, so do the things you can acquire from certain NPCs. Ashura, for example, one of the first NPCs you meet (He is Dad. Fite me), is in charge of your foraging upgrades. He gives you your first axe and foraging is one of the skills you can level fastest, with or without Focus. (I'll get to focus in a minute), and the higher your forage level, the more recipes and useful items he has to offer you.

Once you level a skill to ten, you even start earning medals, which can be used to buy even *more* exclusive stuff.

Now, Focus can be confusing for first time players. Focus is not a skill. Focus actually is a skill *bonus*. You will earn your points faster if you have focus in the bar. You can earn a higher bonus, or a bigger bar by visiting a couple shrines~ (No spoilers 8p)

Oh, and did I mention you can date certain NPCs? You can~ Not everyone, of course; some folks are married, some are too young, too old, or just plain don't wanna, but there's plenty of relatable NPCs, so long as you don't mind the purple skin. Now, as to how it *works*, I don't actually know. I'm usually too busy running around trying to get stuff. But I know it can be done, and some of these NPCs are just too precious for *words*, y'all.

Now, Palia isn't perfect. It has two body types that are very clearly male/female just without the gender names. They are 'fit' body types, as well. No fat people or twigs or muscle-bound folx here, which is a little frustrating. You cannot alter your height either. But No one references you by any pronoun, hair and clothing are not gender locked (afaik, please correct me if the dresses are), and you are not limited to the one default starting outfit.

Me, I love the game. I've loved it since I was welcomed into the first and second alpha testing, and it has improved so much from the early stages. If you want a cozy MMO, this game is your game.

Who would even miss me? Its not like I ever did anything with my life. I'm the least successful of my siblings, my friends are just people who put up with having me around, coworkers litrally don't even see me. Who would even care? My dog would have a better home, my roommate won't have to worry about me being here when his gf wants alone time. What even am I? Just an npc who hoped too much? I have no value to anyone. I have nothing to contribute. What a pathetic waste of a life.

And yet, a part of me still wants to keep marching. Keep going at a steady pace. Keep walking towards and end that doesn't exist for me. Keep trying for a chance I wasted all too long ago. Keep running for help thats always out of reach. Keep screaming for ears that won't listen. Keep crying for comfort forged of wire. Keep fighting for a victory long since forfeit. And I keep going and going just praying and hoping and God please just this once hear me call out

ー Activity levels: ✦✦✦✦✧✧

ー The Nauts' involvement:

As humanity evolved and changed over the course of time, so did the Nauts. They went from sailing the seas to sailing the stars. While they still have their members on the ground - across from various of planets - to sail any seas (or skies), their primary travel is within outerspace.

While their main business is to carry both cargo and people from one planet to the next or from one place on a planet to the next place on the same planet, they can be found to have warships. To be involved with any sort of combat. Many if not all their cargo ships are armored with light armor and weapons to defend themselves while they are traveling about. To prevent people like pirates and mercenaries from taking over.

When the Andromeda Initiative was introduced and slowly building itself up, the Nauts was a bit iffy in joining in, given they didn't see it working. Not at first. It took a bit of convincing before they sent some of their own people to join and to send them to another galaxy.

Mind you, many humans makes up the ranks of the Nauts, but as time went on by, other alien species joined the ranks. So, it's not surprising to see species like Asaris, Turians, Salarians, and many more go through the recruiting system like the humans did or even be seen within the ranks.

ー Vasco's involvement:

Vasco isn't a recruitable (and romanceable companion) in ME1. He is just an npc-like character during the events of the first game, providing a few missions here and there or popping up to help. As best as he can that is without getting too involved. All because he might get in trouble with the Nauts. The same people he calls his family.

He can be recruited during the second game, though it takes a bit of convincing for him to do so. Mind you, the Nauts and Cerberus aren't the greatest buddies. In fact, they are on opposite ends on the spectrum in terms of alliances and friendships. It's because Cerberus tried to figure out ways to gain the Nauts' secrets and using it for the sake of humanity, though it's far from it. That and they have somehow getting into some kind of trouble with the Nauts, earning a lot of pissed of members and a big no for any future alliances. So, it's no surprise that Vasco has a tough time joining onto a ship that belongs to Cerberus, despite it being an upgraded Normandy and seeing familiar faces. Eventually he does join the crew, though mostly to work under Shepard. A smaller reason he may only reveal to Shepard is that he wants to see if they are the real deal and not some clone or copycat.

His personal quest during ME2 is figuring out about his family. His family is a wealthy family who does a lot of business with other organizations or families as well as trading. What exactly is still unknown for now. This mission would require your muse to sneak in and grab the right files that contains his information from the Nauts. Shortly after knowing who his family is and where he comes from, he will ask to go see his family, who he later realizes are assholes. So, he doesn't reveal himself to them and will say he is proud to be a Naut. Not that he was before. Just more.

If failing to do this mission, it will result in him leaving before jumping into Omega 4 Relay. What brings his death during the jump is if you don't help him complete the loyalty mission from the Nauts.

Now, there is two routes you can ask for when it comes to Vasco in the events of ME3 / Andromeda. Please do specify which one since this can determine the outcome for any threads taking placing in either ME3 or Andromeda. Anyways! If you have Vasco stay in ME3, he can be recruited again, but he isn't laid off. He is close to being fleet commander if not already.

Here is the thing, there is an evil clone of Vasco running around, who joins Normandy right off the bat. You can tell something is off about Vasco, especially if your muse is close with him. The way his eyes may look more red than gold or the way he seems to be more colder and ruder. This clone's personality is a bit off, though it can easily be mistaken as him being tense due to the arrival of the Reapers. Again, unless your muse has grown to know who he is or have grown close to him than they may notice something is off but can't place a finger on it. If you allow the real Vasco to stay, he can be seen around the time of recruiting Tali, which throws people off seeing two Vasco.

Depending on which side you take, it will determine what will happen to the actual Vasco. If you choose to believe the clone!Vasco, the real version will die and the Nauts will not become a war asset, which provides a good amount of asset. If you choose to take the real Vasco's side, the plan of what the clone wanted to do will be revealed. And depending if you have softened him up or toughened him up during his time on Normandy, he may take down the clone (toughened him up) or allowing Shepard to do it for him (softened him up).

If you don't let Vasco stay during the events of ME3, he will go onto the Andromeda Initiative, heading to the Andromeda Galaxy. He will be one of the few Nauts to be woken up, which he will join both Ryder and the Tempest crew. During his time away, there is no sooner way of knowing if the clone!Vasco is the real deal or not. This will lead to more trouble than what it is worth. If not stopping the clone!Vasco in time, the Nauts will not provide any war assets and instead, majority of them will be killed off by the Reapers.

Little side HCs: Vasco will not hesitate to start throwing hands, including using his omni-blade left and right, no matter where he is. He is used to fighting from afar as well as being up close, depending on how tough the enemy is. This will not affect anyone who has these muses, unless y'all wish to insert into our connection, but Vasco gets along the most with Liara, Tali, any of the Krogan companions (Wrex, Grunt, & Drack), Garrus, Vetra, and Jaal. In fact, if you don't romance Vasco, he will end up getting together with another crew mate, though this can be discussed further in private.

OH, WELL, RUBS MY HANDS TOGETHER EXCITEDLY

SO! For context I'm gonna have to explain the setting a little bit, so this is gonna get a bit long;

In the session where the aforementioned Void Kidnapping happened, our party was still in the middle of the first story arc, which was about us all randomly (or not so randomly) chancing upon this one really huge and famous city of invention known for a specific kind of metal that could convert different kinds of energy into arcane energy, and vice versa, during a festival of invention held within. The entire city (called Nethermoore) was covered by a huge dome at all times because sunlight has a corrosive effect on the metal, meaning the whole place was basically always held inside a controlled environment with artificial lighting and its own oxygen supply system and such.

Except! Oops! Someone went and sabotaged the thing responsible for distributing power across the city, and now all exits are closed and the city is plagued by frequent blackouts (during which weird magical distortions keep happening), and we all have two days to figure out who the saboteur is and stop them before the emergency generators run outta juice and everyone suffocates! Also, there's a murderer going around killing people during blackouts! It's fine tho we caught them AND the saboteur eventually and saved the city yaaay

Okay NOW we get to the void dimension incident. Smile

So! Weird shit keeps happening all over the place and, while investigating the city for clues, we also keep running into cryptic and ominous hints about us all being in some way tied to each other through strings of fate (which btw. Fate is an actual fr goddess in this setting apparently, and this isn't our first time dealing with stuff related to her. Teehee).

One such instance happens when Button, our kobolt artificer, is separated from the rest of the party while escorting another npc friend of ours to her home in Nethermoore, and there's a blackout again. I don't remember EXACTLY how it happens bc it's been a hot minute, but they start getting barraged by old memories of their life and their missing mother (while miserably failing like every single wisdom saving throw they have to make, which was terrifying to watch), and then Something happens, described as them being pulled along a churning river, and then suddenly Button is Somewhere Else.

None of us still know where this Somewhere Else is, exactly, but it seems like. Some sort of weird ethereal voidspace thats like a pocket dimension of sorts, or at least some form of gateway to speak with an entity called the Assistant (or Auzzie, as Button eventually ends up taking to calling it). It seems connected to Fate in some way, and pulled Button into this space to speak with them; after a bit of a back-and-forth of questions and answers (most of which Auzzie is regretfully unable to answer, likely because revealing certain information could somehow mess up Something Important about our assigned task and our future), the entity tells Button that we (the party) Must stick together, as we are the Conduits of Fate, and also reveals that it has helped other Conduits in the past before, being a neutral party and a being made for assisting people like us. Basically, there's some destiny bullshit going on and we've been set on an Important Task Of Saving The World. Y'know. Normal d&d stuff.

Anyway, Auzzie cannot tell Button very much yet (even though it seems to have A Lot of knowledge about whatever's going on, as well as Knowing things about the rest of the party too), but seems amiable enough otherwise and allows them to leave the voidspace once their talk is concluded. Yay! Freedom!

But yeah our dm put on one of those slowed reverb ethereal remixes of clair de lune in the background for the scene where Button is navigating through the voidspace and talking to the Assistant and that's the context for that LMAO

what was the last straw that made you finally block that annoying person?

Oh boy. First of all please don't ask me who this is, I won't throw anyone under the bus. But one person asked on multiple occasions for me to draw NSFW art for them, which I definitely did not feel comfy doing. I did do a gift art piece for them and was met with a "this looks nice" as the highlight of their reaction (after putting hours into the piece that's literally all I got. I also received the most vague suggestions and "it looks ok" comments as i sent the progress updates. I am hesitant to do gift pieces or ever do commissions due to this). The last straw was when I was shown solid evidence of an ex-Tumblr user who was blatantly plagiarizing other's fics and this person basically tried defending them. I do not want to associate with people who turn a blind eye to plagiarism. I had been considering blocking before this just because of all the uncomfy interactions I had with them, so that was a good opportunity to do it. They also turned around and called me a cunt publicly so… no loss, really.

that one thing you see in fics all the time

I have so many things I notice in fics that drive me nuts but I won't dive into it here. One thing though is an NPC (usually a guildmaster) playing matchmaker for the LDB and the love interest. It's so overdone and honestly I doubt if the fic were a real life situation that the guild master would give half a skeever's ass who's boning down with who. They have a guild to run, after all.

Who are you?

I'd prefer to stay anonymous for now, but you can call me bracket-wrangler! I'm a writer/game dev with a love of romance stories and social systems in games. I've been on tumblr for over a decade. My pronouns are she/her, but I'm fine if people use they for me.

Who is your icon?

Tomoda, from the fictional video game Girls Princess 3 featured in Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. If you've never heard of him I highly recommend watching this scene.

What's the schedule for the bracket?

At the time of writing, the submission period is planned to be from August 3rd to August 17th. I may extend this if I don't get enough variety in submissions. There will probably be a short gap between the submission period and when the polls begin, to get everything set up and seed the bracket.

I'm getting married (!!!????) at the start of September, so there will be at least a week vacation around that time. Have I chosen a terrible time to run this bracket? Most definitely.

I'm undecided on how long the polls will run for. The semifinals/finals will definitely run for a full week.

Is X character eligible to compete?

Maybe! Send me an ask if you're uncertain, or just submit and I'll remove if they aren't. Please just read the rules first.

How do you pick which characters get in/How many submissions does a character need to be confirmed for the bracket?

There is no amount of submissions that confirms a character for the bracket, but if I get more than three (and they fit the rules) it's pretty much guaranteed. Ultimately, it'll depend on how many submissions I get! Additionally, if I get a TON of submissions from the same game/series, I may trim out the least popular ones, so we don't accidentally have the Unromanceable Stardew NPC Bracket, for example.

Can I submit a character who is romanceable but only by a certain gender?

No. That's not what this tournament is about. If I run a sequel poll, however, this is probably what the subject would be! Specifically for characters who are straight romance options but we wish were available to more genders. That's not guaranteed, though, so if you want to run that bracket concept go for it.

What counts as a "contemporary real person"?

Basically, if someone is real and has been alive within the past 50 years I don't really want them in the bracket. This includes characters that are based on a real person, such as MCYT RP personas.
