here me out.
instead of eddie munson knowing he's gay, let's make him completely oblivious. he just acts like that and is obviously gay because it's who he is.
instead of nancy wheeler being oblivious to her queerness, let's have her know she was in love with barb. let's have her try to 'fix' her love by dating steve.
instead of eddie helping nancy through her queer journey, what if nancy helps eddie through his? what if nancy wheeler told him she wanted to kiss barb and jonathan and now wants to kiss robin and jonathan? what if she helps him through coming out? what if she helps him ask out steve?

That Boy is Theirs
18+ MINORS DNI for implied smut and Steve doing the hand on his hips things naked is powerful to imagine.
Shout out to @monologichno for giving me the great idea about Nancy and Eddie falling into the bed scene as they fought. It gave me the inspiration to write this out.
Summary: Nancy and Eddie fight over Steve while Steve revels in it.
For Steve, it was hard to tell when someone really liked him. . .unless they were being very obvious. Eddie and Nancy were very obvious. Well, okay, so maybe Steve had to be told by Robin. Well, once he was aware, it was very obvious their eyes were on him. He remembered them now in the boat before they got pulled into the Upside Down. Their eyes were on him, too. Although, who could blame them? Even though he no longer had his swimmer's physique and he gained a few pounds, Steve still thought he looked pretty damn good. Not so much now with the bat bites.
"You definitely still look good," Nancy had told him after listening to him complain.
"You look better than good. You look scrumptious, good enough to eat," Eddie had grinned. "The bats clearly thought so."
Steve had watched Nancy glare at Eddie. The doctors had put him on bed rest after he over exerted himself. Eddie had managed to escape his own bites when Steve doubled back and promptly collapsed. It was Eddie who carried him through the gate. It seemed he never let Nancy forget it that it was Eddie who saved Steve’s life. Now, at his house, they had both shown up at the same time to tend to his wounds.
"Seriously, Eddie?" Nancy asked.
"Seriously, Wheeler? I don't think Johnny Boy is going to appreciate you coming here and telling another man how good he looks," Eddie said.
"Jonathan and I broke up," Nancy seethed, glaring at Eddie. "That's why I came here, to talk to Steve - ,"
"He's under strict orders by the medical doctors not to deal with any. . .unnecessary stress. So, I don't think it's wise for Steve here to listen to whatever upsetting news you may have for him," Eddie said.
"Steve, would you please call off your attack dog?!" Nancy asked.
"Don't you yell at him!" Eddie exclaimed.
"And don't act like you've suddenly changed! You only feel guilty because you suddenly realized that Jason Carver wasn't the only one who was a bullying dick! You're only doing this because you judged people just as harshly!" Nancy snapped. "And once you don't have to hide anymore, you're going to go back to your old ways! Standing on lunch tables and lording over everyone that you think you're better than them."
"That's rich, coming from little miss priss!" Eddie yelled at him.
"Asshole!"
"Adulterer!"
"Dick!"
"Douchebag!"
"Takes one to know one!"
"You realize you just insulted yourself, Wheeler!"
"I'm going down anyway, might as well take you with me!"
Steve’s darted back and forth as he watched them. Holy shit! He knew that they thought he was attractive but he didn't think they would fight over him but here they were. He shouldn't be enjoying this. . .right? Who knows what would have happened if Hopper hadn't come over at that moment to check on him? Although he kind of wished he hadn't. Hopper had kicked them out after that, and Steve had to pretend like he wasn't pouting inside. It was Robin who had come over the next day.
"They're fighting over me!" Steve hissed to her.
"What?" Robin asked.
"Eddie and Nancy, they're fighting over me," he grinned.
"Why do you look so gleeful?" Robin asked, and then she paused. "Oh, is this making you horny. . . You slut."
"Well, I mean, a little, but also, is it weird that it also makes me feel. . .wanted?" Steve asked.
"No," Robin said. "They're really fighting over you? Okay, I'm going to have to witness this. My curiosity is peaked."
Of course, they weren't here the next day or the day after that. Steve figured that Hopper must have given them a talking to on the way out, but it didn't seem to deter them. They arrived together three days after they had been kicked out. Robin had shown up after them. Eddie and Nancy were already in Steve's room by the time Robin came in with a bowl of popcorn and crawled into Steve’s bed.
"Excuse me, I was here first," Nancy said, grabbing the bandages out of his hands.
"And I was here second," he said, taking them back.
"I think Steve would want me to change his bandages," Nancy said. "He's known me longer."
"He's going to know me better. It's all about quality, not about quantity, sweetheart," Eddie smirked.
"Holy shit, they really are fighting over you," Robin said as Steve ate some popcorn.
"Yeah," Steve said.
"So, when are you going to tell them you want them both?" Robin would ask.
"When I stop enjoying it, and they both realize they like each other too. I'm enjoying the sexual tension," Steve said.
"Gross, but also hilarious," Robin said. "Is it just me, or is their hair getting bigger as they argue?"
"It's not just you," Steve said.
"Why don't we just ask ask him who he wants?" Eddie asked.
"We don't have to because I know he wants me. My hands are smaller," Nancy said.
"What the hell does that mean?" Eddie asked.
"It means my hands are more delicate than your gorilla paws," Nancy said.
"Excuse me? Steve’s hands are bigger than mine," Eddie said. "If my hands are gorilla paws, what are his?"
"Beautiful," Nancy sighed.
"Yeah, that's true," Eddie said with a sigh of his own.
"I shouldn't have called your hands gorilla hands. They're nice too," Nancy said and slipped her hands into his.
"Um, thanks," Eddie blushed.
She pulled her hands back, grinning mischievously. She waved the bandages in her hands.
"Got you!" She exclaimed.
"You minx! Deceiver!"
"Come on, Steve, let's change those bandages," Nancy said and paused. "Robin, when did you get here? And when did you get popcorn?"
"Steven, are you eating popcorn without us?" Eddie asked. "How dare you?!"
The arguing between Nancy and Eddie went on for a while. The younger members of the Party even caught onto it and had started making bets on who Steve would choose. Of course, Max would be the only one winning with her 'ridiculous' idea that he would choose both of them. El decided to stay out of it. Eventually, Steve got better, but unfortunately, he had neglected to tell both Nancy and Eddie that he was no longer on bed rest. He also didn't tell them that he started driving the kids around again.
"Steve?!" Nancy called out as she searched through the empty house.
"Steve?!" Eddie yelled.
They had gone upstairs to his room but found that he wasn't there either.
"We should check the garage," Nancy said.
Eddie agreed with her and followed her to the garage, where they discovered that his car was gone. Nancy frowned and decided to search the house for a note or any clue to where he had disappeared to. They ended up in his room again.
"Maybe he got tired of us arguing all the time," Eddie said.
"This is all your fault!" Nancy snapped.
"My fault?!" Eddie gasped. "Mine?!"
"Yes, yours. You couldn't accept the fact that he wants me! It's odd, though, because Robin said you tried to push him towards me," Nancy said.
"That was before I realized I wanted him too!" Eddie yelled. "You had your chance with him, princess, and you ruined it!"
"And I'm trying to make it up to him, but you won't let me!" Nancy screamed at him.
"I'm not going to let you break his heart again!" Eddie yelled as he moved closer to her.
He was towering over her now, and she could feel his breath on her face. Nancy screamed and jumped on him, pushing him onto the bed. Eddie growled and pushed her onto her back. She did the same, and they kept doing until they were wresting around on the bed, getting twisted up in the covers. At one point, he had her on her back, hands pinned above her head with his legs straddling her. Suddenly, she could feel it on her hip, and it filled her with annoyance that he could get turned on by this. Was it annoyance, though? Nancy thrusted her hips upward, pressing against it and causing Eddie to moan. He loosened his grip, and she flipped him on his back. She put his hands around his throat, squeezing, but that only made it harder. He liked it.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!" Steve’s voice came from the doorway.
"Steve, this isn't - " Nancy started to say as she removed her hands from Eddie's throat.
"You guys are having sex in my bed and didn't invite me?!" Steve exclaimed.
"What?!" Nancy and Eddie asked.
Steve sighed and rolled his eyes. He started pulling off his clothes. It was amazing how quickly he had managed to strip himself naked. Nancy and Eddie stared at him.
"How far did you get? Can I still hop in?" Steve asked as he put his hands on his naked hips.
"Wow," Nancy and Eddie said in unison as they gaped at him.
"You've seen it before," Eddie said to Nancy.
"Yeah, I know," she blushed.
Steve pulled back the covers and frowned at their fully clothed bodies before grinning.
"Guess I didn't miss anything," Steve said as he slipped into the bed next to them. "Where should we start? I guess here should be good."
Steve leaned in and kissed Nancy deeply, smirking when she gasped against his mouth before returning the kiss. He quickly pulled away from Nancy before turning to Eddie and kissing him as well. Eddie kissed him back eagerly and hungrily, whining when Steve pulled away.
"I want to see you two kiss," Steve grinned.
"What?" Eddie asked, his mind a blank canvas.
"I'm really glad that you two finally realized that you two liked each other and that you didn't have to fight over me because I want you both. I wish I could have been there to see that, though," Steve said.
Eddie and Nancy turned to look at each, realization appearing in their eyes. They moved at the same time, lips crashing against the others. When they both broke the kiss, they laughed and leaned their foreheads together.
"Am I just going to be the only one naked here then?" Steve asked in amusement.
"Right, right!" Eddie exclaimed.
It was awkward at first, trying to find out how to do things, but then they found their rhythm, deciding where they wanted to be. Nancy and Eddie enveloped Steve, welcoming him into their embrace. He was their middle, their anchor, and being with him was like sinking down into a warm bath. They bit, licked, and kissed every inch of him, marking him as their own. It was almost animalistic, the way they loved him, and the way they loved each other because of him. It was a beautiful but exhausting thing, and as soon as Steve lay on his stomach, his skin still glistening with sweat, he fell asleep. Eddie and Nancy stayed away, leaning on their elbows as they stared at him. Nancy used her free hand to trace patterns into his skin. Eddie reached out before doing the same.
"It seems silly now, fighting over him," Nancy said.
"Yeah," Eddie said.
"I do it all again, though. . .fight for him, like I should have before," Nancy said.
"I'm sorry for all the things that I said. I didn't mean them," Eddie said.
"I'm sorry, too, Eddie. I didn't mean those things either. You're a good man," Nancy said.
They moved their hands and held them over Steve’s back, looking at each other fondly. Nancy smiled at the bite mark she left on Eddie's neck. She left one for Steve, too. They were both hers now. She leaned over and kissed him. Eddie smiled as he pulled away. They laid down next to Steve, curling their limbs around him protectively. Theirs.

I won’t wish to be yours (or for you to be mine)
Read it on ao3
Second Part
Eddie was never going to be able to stay.
Logically, Steve understood that. He understood it, and he agreed. No matter what the government tried to spin, no matter what Hopper told them, the people of Hawkins thought Eddie was a murderer. A boy like Eddie had been guilty since the first day he arrived, and this was the inevitable conclusion.
Still, there was knowing he was eventually going to leave, and then there was watching Eddie put the last boxes in his van and cling on tight to his uncle.
July 14th. Eddie had stayed ten days past 4th of July. Just long enough to make sure they were all going to be okay on the first anniversary. It was kind. It was thoughtful.
It made Steve wish he knew how to hate him.
“Okay, so as long as you stick to your timetable, you should get to Chicago by tonight. You have a reservation at this hotel already, so try to get there around check in time, okay? They even have parking in the back,” Nancy rattled off, handing Eddie a thick folder of papers.
When Eddie had told the five of them he was leaving, she had launched into research mode. It was the way she coped, and it was productive. In just one month she had managed to put together a full dossier of the exact route Eddie had to take to get to New York, even found him a few garages outside of the city in towns where no one would have ever heard his name.
“Thanks, Drew,” Eddie said with a grin, patting Wayne twice on the shoulder and dragging Nancy into a hug, “Actually, thanks to all of you. You guys have been super helpful.”
They had been. Nancy planned, Jonathan had started putting together an album of all the pictures he had taken, Argyle began cultivating the perfect stash for Eddie to bring with him, and Robin made about a dozen mixtapes of ‘real music’ for him to listen to.
Steve had grieved.
He hadn’t done a damn thing to help or make this process easier. Robin had done her best to try and make things better, she always did, but it didn't help that she was also leaving in less than a month. All of them were. Off to colleges all across the country, while Steve stayed here all by himself.
He was supposed to at least be able to keep Eddie. But Steve never really got to keep good things, so he should have expected this.
He turned away from the rest so they wouldn’t see the scowl on his face, kicking at some of the weeds stubbornly poking out from the gravel outside of Wayne’s trailer. The kids had already come by to say their goodbyes, leaving before they had to watch Eddie go. They had offered for Steve to come with them, and he should have taken it. It had felt wrong at the moment to be the only teen to not be there to wish Eddie farewell, but now Steve felt like his world was collapsing, and he just wanted to go home.
Never mind that his home was standing about 20 feet away from him, laughing with the rest of his friends. Never mind that his home was leaving for good, never to return, and Steve was probably never going to see him again.
“Hey, easy on the flowers,” Eddie said with a laugh, pulling away from the rest. He squatted low, picking the dandelion and examining it, “Still looks good,”
Steve hummed, unable to make words come.
“Make a wish,” Eddie whispered, holding the fuzzy flower up to Steve’s lips. He took a sharp breath in, hating the way his chest felt like it was about to cave in.
I wish the people in this town would fuck off so you didn’t have to go.
I wish everything would just stay exactly as it is.
I wish you would stay.
I wish I wasn’t so selfish.
I wish I knew how to tell you I love you.
Because he did. Steve loved Eddie in a way he thought he was never going to be able to love again. He loved Eddie so much it hurt, and he had started to think that Eddie might even love him right back, but then it had all broken down.
Now Eddie was going, and Steve had missed his chance.
Steve banished all of those stupid greedy thoughts, pulling away just enough to blow out a heavy short gust, watching the seeds dance away, merrily floating across the trailer park, unaware they carried no wishes with them.
“What’d you wish for?” Eddie asked.
Steve let himself look at Eddie. Really, honestly, look. He memorized the wave of Eddie’s curls, and the long slow slope of his nose. Steve mentally sketched out the sharp jawline, and the way his eyes sparkled. He committed it all to a place in his brain where Eddie could stay young and beautiful forever.
That was the Eddie Steve could love forever, that was the Eddie that would stay.
He could let this one go.
“That you’d be happy, wherever you’re going,” He whispered, pulling Eddie into a far too tight hug. He rested his chin on Eddie’s shoulder and closed his eyes, dragging in a long breath and savoring the smell of Eddie’s cheap, terrible, 2-in-1 shampoo conditioner.
Eddie held him back just as tight, his forehead nestled in Steve’s neck.
“I’m gonna call. Every day,” He promised, and Steve forced down the scoff that wanted to come up.
That’s what everyone always said. I’ll call, I’ll write, we won’t lose touch. It never happened. His own parents hadn’t even managed to keep calling, why would Eddie be any different?
No, Steve knew the truth. They would call every day for a while, maybe even multiple times a day. Then they would slowly go to every other day, then once a week, once a month, just on birthdays and special occasions. And, eventually, Eddie would forget his name, or Steve would only be fond memories that lived in high school yearbooks and yellowed old photo albums.
Eddie would forget that he had maybe started to love Steve.
It was going to happen with Eddie, then Robin, then Jonathan, then Argyle, and finally Nancy. It would happen with the kids when they finally went off on their own, and Joyce and Hopper when there were no more people tying them down to Hawkins. Everyone would leave, because that’s what people did.
They would leave, and Steve would stay, and he needed to learn how to be okay with that. He needed to figure out how to get over losing people.
And he needed to be alone to learn how to do that.
“Does that sound good, Stevie?”
Oh. Right. Eddie was expecting a response.
“Yeah. You better. I’ll be waiting by the phone,” Steve said, hating how much that was going to be true. Eddie laughed like it was a joke, but it was the god honest truth. Steve would wait by the phone every single day, and one day the phone wouldn’t ring again.
He swallowed down the bitterness that was rising, untangling himself from Eddie’s arms and interlocking their fingers. This was the last time he was going to hold this hand, the last time he was going to feel those rings. He needed to savor it.
They walked back to the others as one single unit. There was another round of hugs, a few well hidden tears, and then Eddie was getting into his van. For the first time there was an air of nervousness, and he glanced around the group, his eyes landing on Steve and staying there.
Eddie wanted reassurance. He needed a patented Steve Pep Talk, a few words to tell him that he was making the right decision.
Well, he was making the right decision for him, but Steve couldn’t do it. He couldn’t tell Eddie it was okay to go. His heart was already breaking in two as it was, giving Eddie the last push he needed would shatter it completely.
Then Robin’s hand was sneaking into his, and she was giving him a look, and Steve couldn’t be selfish anymore.
“Don’t forget us when you get big and famous,” Steve said with a wave, all of them pretending his voice hadn’t cracked even a bit. Eddie gave him a beaming smile and a two fingered salute, starting up the van with the usual roar. He carefully backed out of the drive, leaving the trailer park with an obnoxiously long beep of his horn and a waving hand.
And he was gone.
He was actually gone.
Steve didn’t bother to stick around and chat with the rest. He had given the last bit of his care away to Eddie, and now he just wanted to curl up in his bed. Steve had to learn to live with this pain, and the sooner he started, the better.
Robin followed him without words, and he loved her for it. They had already discussed their plans. They were going to get rip roaring drunk, and Steve was going to have a good long cry, and then they would eat ice cream. It wasn’t enough, but it was better than being by himself before he had to be.
“I’m sorry,” Robin said softly as they got into his Beemer.
“Don’t be. He’ll be okay.” Steve replied automatically, starting the car and pulling out, going the same way as Eddie. A wild crazy part of him almost wanted to speed to catch up, cut Eddie off, tell him not to go.
Steve kept the car below 30, barely crawling on a street he normally flew down.
“He will be,” Robin said carefully. The unspoken ‘I’m worried you won’t be’ sat between them, heavy and oh so painful.
“I will be,” Steve said stubbornly, ignoring the look Robin gave him. He put the radio on so they didn’t have to talk anymore, hating himself for wishing that he had wished for Eddie to stay.

Chapter Twenty-Nine
As soon as they pulled up to the Hendersons, they noticed a major problem. Nancy stepped out of the car and looked at the gate in horror. It was still pulsating with a red light, and it still remained the same size. It had yet to spread to the actual houses. Surrounding the gate were several demodogs protecting the gate like they were actual guard dogs.
"What the fuck are we supposed to do now?" Dustin asked. "Getting in was supposed to be the easy part."
"I don't think we can take on that many," Steve said. "Can we?"
"Shit!" Eddie exclaimed.
The rest of the group pulled up and spilled out of their respective cars. Lily and Agent Stinson stood close to them.
"Well, this is a problem," Lily said.
"Do you think?" Dustin asked.
Suddenly, the demodogs starting growling and snapped at them. If they had eyes, they would be looking at Nancy, Steve, Robin, Eddie, and Dustin. They started moving closer to them. It was pure instinct. Ted, Karen, Robert, Nora, Lily, and Agent Stinson dove in front of the kids, pushing them back. Something that the demodogs had been hoping for. Suddenly, more demodogs started coming out from the trees and from behind the house. They dropped in front of the younger members of the group. They had Tommy and Walter pinned down. They snapped at Nancy, swiping at her leg but they didn't hit her. Steve and Eddie reacted quickly. Steve swung his bat while Eddie stabbed with his spear. The dog jumped back with a loud annoyed growl.
"HEY!" Karen's voice yelled out.
The dogs stopped and turned to look at her, just like the others did. Karen was holding out her arm as well as a knife.
"Mom?" Nancy asked.
"We're going to get them away from the gate. Stop this son of a bitch!" Karen exclaimed.
"Mommy!" Nancy yelled.
"We're going to be okay, sweetheart," Ted said. "Do as your mother says."
Karen cut her arm while the others did the same. Karen took Ted's hand and ran off with him, a group of demodogs chasing after them. Their hunger won out. Robert and Nora repeated their actions, going in a different direction than them, another group of dogs following them. Robin wanted to call out but chose not to, tears in her eyes. Lily cursed as did Agent Stinson. They each cut their arms before heading in opposite directions to each other. The last of the demodogs followed them, the last one pulling off of Walter and Tommy. It left the gate clear. Walter pulled Tommy up and into his arms. They were both bleeding but seemed more than capable of continuing on with the fight.
"Holy shit," Tommy breathed into his boyfriend's chest.
"Are you okay, honey?" Walter asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine, you?" he asked, and he nodded.
Tommy pulled out of Walter's arms before turning to Steve and hugging him tightly.
"Jesus, you were right. I didn't want you to be right," Tommy blanched.
"I know, man," Steve replied.
"Let's get going," Nancy sobbed and wiped away the tears.
"Hey, it seems like you're as tough as your parents and if you made it this far, then so can they," Tommy said.
"Thanks, Tommy," Nancy said.
They crawled through the gate and headed towards the Hendersons' Upside-Down house. Walter and Tommy remained on the other side to push the amp and cords through the gate before handing Eddie his guitar. They also pushed boards, nails, and a drill before heading into the gate themselves. Eddie stood in front of Nancy and Steve, looking vulnerable.
"I would have felt better if there were more people going with you," Eddie said as he cupped their cheeks.
"If anyone should be worried, it's us," Steve said.
"You're going to come back and I'm going to be here, I promise," Eddie said.
"Don't make promises that you can't keep," Nancy said, tears in her eyes. "I love you."
"I love you," Steve said.
"I love you too," Eddie said and kissed them both deeply. "Make him pay."
Steve and Nancy hugged Dustin tightly, pressing kisses into his hair.
"Don't try to be heroes," Steve muttered.
"Like Eddie said, that job belongs to you and Nancy," Dustin said.
They moved over to say goodbye to Tommy and Walter, only to find Tommy standing on his tiptoes and kissing Walter rather soundly. They broke the kiss, tears in their eyes.
"He insisted that I needed to go with you guys," Tommy said. "I think he's right."
"He's your best friend, baby," Walter said. "You seemed torn."
"Thanks for helping out with this, man," Steve said.
"We all live in this world," Walter replied and shook his hand.
Nancy and Steve looked over their shoulder at Eddie once last time before grasping each other's hands as they walked off with the other two.
"I know this was my plan, but I think maybe I should turn around and protect Eddie," Nancy said. "I keep thinking about his dream."
"He's just the distraction," Steve said. "They're going to play, trap the bats and then slid back into the gate to the other side. They've got this. We've got this."
"So, you're not worried?" Nancy asked.
"Oh, I'm completely terrified," Steve said. "I'm trying to reassure the both of us."
Nancy sighed and pressed her cheek up against his arm. She was glad that she wasn't the only one who was scared. She tried not to think about her parents and tried to focus on the fact that they had a plan if they had gotten separated. They would either meet up back at the house or at the apartment or at Hopper's old cabin. She hoped they made it back to one of those locations and that they're all in one piece.
"So, Robin just told me that you're living with Nancy and Eddie," Tommy said as they walked toward the Creel House.
"Honestly, it was a complete accident. I didn't even ask them. They just started spending more and more time with me at the apartment that they eventually stopped living at their houses," Steve said and grinned. "But I'm glad it happened that way. We didn't overthink anything."
"I'm happy for you, man. I'm glad that you got away from your asshole parents," Tommy said.
"I'm glad that you got away from your asshole father," Steve said.
"I'm glad we're here now," Tommy said. "I mean emotionally, that we're friends again."
"Yeah, I got what you meant. I'm glad we're friends again too," Steve grinned. "I think Lucas is looking forward to you playing basketball with us this summer."
"You've got great kids. You've always wanted a big family. I'm glad you got your wish, man," Tommy said and paused. "You know, Walter doesn't like basketball. He likes watching me play but he doesn't actually like playing."
"Seriously, he's so tall," Steve said.
"I know, he thinks it's hilarious when the coaches at the university try to approach him and he rejects them," he said. "He says it's the look on their faces that make him laugh."
"You love him," he grinned.
"Yeah," Tommy said blushing. "I'm glad nothing happened with us because then I never would have met him."
"Yeah, me too," Steve said looking over at Nancy.
"I'm just glad you no longer hate me and that I no longer hate you," Nancy said and Tommy laughed in agreement.
"I think we're close," Robin said. "I'm going to go scout ahead."
"I'm going to keep an eye on her," Tommy said. "Watch her back."
"Thanks," Steve said softly.
They watched them run off and Nancy sighed. Steve laced his fingers through hers and raised their hands to kiss hers.
"I'm glad I overheard that conversation in Scoops Ahoy," Nancy said. "It led me to the greatest decision that I've ever made. You were always my choice, and then it led me to Eddie being my choice too which I never thought would ever be possible. Thank you for forgiving me."
"Thank you for coming back into my life," Steve said.
"Thank you for loving me," Nancy said. "Even when I was at my worst, you still loved me."
Steve leaned down and kissed her deeply. He pulled back with a smile.
"It is just me, or does the word 'glad' sound weird now?" Steve asked.
"We said it too many times," Nancy giggled.
Suddenly, Tommy and Robin came running back.
"It's just up ahead," Robin said. "We saw it."
The group headed towards the Creel House. They made sure to wait for their signal first before they entered and made sure to signal back to them using the lights. They were soon making their way up the stairs to the attic, and it was filled with trepidation. Nancy could feel the fear radiating off of all of them. Of course, she knew it wouldn't be that simple. The ground shook, and then a vine wrapped itself around Robin's foot. Soon, they were all slammed against the wall with vines wrapped around them, gasping for breath. No, no, this wasn't how they were going to go. They needed to win. Tears filled Nancy's eyes as she watched her partner and the woman she so clearly thought of like sister choke before her very eyes. Tommy was beside her, struggling to breathe as well. Who knew they would ever be dying side by side as friends? Just like that, the vines let them go. . .for whatever reason. She wasn't sure why but she felt like she needed to thank someone.
"Holy shit, I'm never asking Walter to choke me in bed ever again," Tommy said.
"Okay, that's more than I needed to know about your sex life, Thomas," Robin said.
"Don't be homophobic, Buckley," Tommy smirked.
"Don't be lesbophobic then," Robin said and slugged him in the arm before hugging him tightly.
"Happy you guys get along," Steve said as he hugged Nancy. "Let's go."
They walked into the attic to find Vecna in his trance, which meant that Max was also in her own trance. Nancy tried not to think about that. When they were ready, they started swinging. Nancy stood at the front, firing her shotgun while the others started throwing the Molotovs. His entire body lit up with flames, and suddenly, he was screaming. He unattached himself from the vines and slowly got up, walking towards them. Shot after shot, Molotov, after Molotov, but he still continued to move towards them. They all backed away except for Nancy, who reloaded her weapon. She continued to pump rounds into him until they were blasting him back. . . Until his back was towards the window. They were still throwing Molotovs at him, but it was Nancy's shotgun who blasted him out the window. They all froze and stared at each other.
"Is he - is he dead?" Tommy asked.
The four of them rushed to the window, but when they looked down below, they found nothing.
"He's dead. He's got to be dead," Robin said.
"Yeah," Steve said.
Nancy wasn't sure that Steve even believed himself. No, Vecna wasn't dead. There would have been a body. Right? Dead bodies don't get up and walk away. They hurried downstairs and burst out of the house, pausing on the porch when they heard. Four chimes.
"Max," Nancy sobbed, and then it felt like her heart plummeted to her stomach. "We have to get back to the others. We have to get out of here now!"
They didn't waste any time when the ground shook. They all started running back towards the Hendersons. They were getting close when they heard it. Dustin's grief stricken scream.
"Eddie," Steve and Nancy said.
When they got to the house, Dustin was laying by the gate and cradling Eddie's body in his arms. Walter was leaning heavily against Dustin, his arm wrapped around him as he held the crying boy. Walter was covered in blood, and they were both surrounded by dead bats. Eddie was completely still.
"No, no, no, no!" Nancy sobbed and dropped down next to Dustin.
Eddie was covered in blood, his eyes blank and lifeless. Nancy let out a scream as she pressed a hand to his chest. There was no heartbeat. Eddie was gone. This wasn't real. This was a dream. She shut her eyes. When she opened them again, they're going to wake up in their apartment to find Eddie sleeping soundly between them. However, when Nancy reopened her eyes, Eddie's eyes were still blank, and he was still covered in blood. He wasn't sleeping. Suddenly, the ground started to shake.
"Baby," Steve’s broken voice spoke up. "We have to go."
"I'm not leaving him," Nancy sobbed.
"We can drag him through the gate. It's right there," Steve sobbed. "We're not leaving him behind."
Nancy looked up to find that Steve looked as devastated as she felt. She nodded and helped them pull Eddie through the gate. His guitar was lying on the ground when they got there. Eddie must have sent it through with Dustin, and Dustin came back for Eddie.
"I'm sorry, I tried to help him, but there were so many bats, and by the time they dropped, it was too late," Walter said as they helped load his body into Nancy's car.
"You did - you did good. Thank you," Nancy said weakly.
She handed the keys off to Tommy as she crawled into the back with Eddie's body.
"Do you think you could drive back to the Wheelers?" Steve asked.
"Yeah, man," Tommy said softly. "Sorry about Eddie."
Steve didn't say anything, just crawled into the back with Nancy and cradled Eddie between the both of them. Robin and Dustin climbed into the middle seat, turning around to hold Nancy and Steve's hands. Once the car started to move, Steve and Nancy broke down, clutching Eddie tightly. Nancy couldn't tell who was shaking more, and she couldn't help but think back to their time in the freezer when they were both holding onto Eddie.
"I don't want to die. I don't want to leave Wayne all alone," Eddie whispered softly. "I'm sorry."
Stop this son of a bitch!
Do as your mother says.
I love you.
Make him pay.
This isn't you, Nance.
Nancy let out a furious scream.
