Hello! your mer au post was very interesting and cool world building. I am now curious as to whats up with the void kids/vessels in this au. Why were they created? Did the mass sacrifice thing happen? What's their relationship with pk like seeing as he's not at war with the radiance?

I’ve already had this question but that was a while ago and the answer hasn’t changed. I’m happy to answer again!

They weren’t mass created - there’s only four kids total and they weren’t created initially as void or for any purpose with void. Instead they were just normal kids - until they all unfortunately were struck with something (the specific details in which I haven’t figured out - but it affected the children with a great sickness(and it wasn’t infection)) and they died.

They became void - as PK and WL’s attempt at allowing them a chance to have a second life - with a big catch. They remember nothing about their earlier life. So they barely have a relationship with PK because their earliest memories were of simply finding themselves in the streets, with Hornet who had found them and stuck with them - and then being found and adopted by Mato who went to his friends like “Hey we can co-parent these kids right?” They still retained their skills they had before with none of the memories attached to it.

They only know of PK and WL as King and Lady - their resemblance to them basically going over their heads - and through Xero who works for the two.

PK and WL do wish they could have a relationship with their kids - but given that they know they’re being raised by others - they don’t want to interfere greatly and only keep track to know they’re still ok.

PRIVATE SYSTEM SERVER.

Hello. As a show of my ability, I have created a private system server template for you to use. While "private" is in the name, I have included two access roles (Friend and Trusted Friend)—however I have not done any permissions for them. There is a Bot role that has permissions for them, like access to the System Setup category.

And, like the last template, only traumagenic systems can interact with this blog and use my templates. Endogenic systems and their supporters get blocked.

Note that not every single channel is in this gif, just the ones I deemed the most important to show.

Use the template here, however do note that the announcement channel and all of the forums channels will not copy over, and you will have to add them yourself: Private System Server Template

I am okay with you editing my template for your own use. Do not redistribute as your own.

💬 mailbox - Essentially, I create a channel with a headmate's name and there are two tags: Read and Unread. Read means they've read the messages people leave for them, and Unread means they have yet to read them. It's a simple way to communicate with headmates who are not fronting.

UPDATE

okay, so I'm gonna try to explain this as best I can lmao I'm gonna put it under a cut because it might get long, but it's related to our system(s) and I just wanna ramble lmao

OKAY so we've changed our sysname to the Starmoon Freaks due to recent discovery of a sidesystem that names itself the Freaks Genus.

This sidesystem and the Starmoon Constellation feel like completely separate entities. Yes, we share the same body/mind, but we are completely separated. The only link we hold is that Freak (it/its) is able to pass through both systems.

As this stands, we decided to somewhat merge some things, such as our Carrd, or our PK/SP in ways that are pretty epic, imho.

For instance, our PK is now known under the name "Starmoon Freaks". We use it/he pronouns as a collective. We, as the SF, call ourselves a collective, rather than a system, since there's 2 systems. We have new boundaries, and new collective information (such as gender(s), pronouns, etc.). It's amazing, tbh, to be able to come together in this way.

Our SP has a similar setup, but we also have everyone organised into groups titled "Freaks Genus" and "Starmoon Constellation", so we can hold the same account, but still be separated. It's genuinely amazing and I love the Freaks Genus so much for compromising with the SMC on so much.

Honestly, this is so much for us to handle that we may be absent for a time. We've gotta get ourselves^ together before we can continue being dumbasses on here. I hope my^ mutuals can understand!

Aren!! I recall you mentioning your take on PK is relatively snakey but you also like the idea of him having a mostly featureless face plate.

Consider: PK with pit organs like a viper

...holy shit. hoooly shit I cannot BELIEVE that I haven't thought of wyrms evolving heat organs before. Heat pits are PERFECT for a burrowing species with poor eyesight; vipirid species with pit organs generally hunt during the nighttime, when visibility is sparse, and pythons themselves have absolutely terrible vision that is made up for with their pit organs.

Okay but I actually blanked out before I reached the part where you mentioned viper pit organs specifically, as I immediately grabbed my sketchbook and pulled up some information on the evolution of heat pits + viper eyes, (this article is more about eyes than pit organs but its interesting), so I've got both a python-esque heat organ setup and a pit viper one going. The boas that do have heat pits were eliminated simply because their heat organs are generally between scale gaps on their bottom jaw vs within specialized scales like pythons, which I couldn't figure out on a guy with a concave jaw like PK, and because they work similarly enough to pythons that it doesn't really matter anyways

To my frustration, I was only able to find generalized studies on how snakes detect infrared radiation on a molecular level, but I think from what I've skimmed that it's safe to say that it's not too far off for PK to have pit organs, mostly because they're composed of a specialized membrane hanging in a hollow chamber within the face that is highly sensitive to changes in temperature of the surroundings. In a place like the Wastelands, heat pits would have been useful in figuring out environmental changes as well as detecting prey, as a moving bug would likely give off more warmth than the surrounding environment. Whether or not the bugs of Hollow Knight are endo or exothermic is a whole other thing to mull over later (based on their behavior I say endothermic), but they would cast off enough heat regardless to make them an easy target with heat pits, while scent alone can be fickle. I wasn't able to gather any information on if the heat pits of vipers differ significantly from pythons in my frantic google search, so until that's been pinpointed, I'd say that it's possible for wyrms to have either layout. Or perhaps different regions have different types of heat pits, because heat pits are one of those things that evolved multiple times in vastly different species of snakes, so its possible for that to be the case with wyrms!

(And hell, we can probably go with saying that PK's 'eyes' themselves might be heat pits, bc on the official art- the cut Pale Court album art I think- they look more like pits in his face than actual eyes. I doubt that TC intended for that, but it's an amusing concept nonetheless)

From what I've gathered though, having heat pits generally comes along with poorer vision simply because of the cost for all of the nerve endings and processing required for the animal to be able to see both light and the thermal patterns of the world around them. So that offers more insight into why the White Palace is made up entirely of whites, silvers, and greys- not only does PK likely prefer less colour, for he wouldn't be able to see as clearly otherwise, but lighter colours don't absorb heat as well as darker ones do, which means that he likely would be able to see other bugs easier as the palace itself would be less likely to retain warmth. High contrast between light and dark would also be easier for him to see than a muddle of different colours, which adds even more functionality to an otherwise bleak aesthetic

💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?

GIVE US SOME CLARITY ABOUT SILVER'S TIME TRAVEL IN THE GAMES. I AM BEGGING.

Further explanation: only '06 really showed Silver's time travel, and none of the other games have. In the various attempts to 'explain' it, nothing add up anymore: Sonic Channel mentioned him using Chaos Control all the way back around the 2010s in a picture of him, Fast Friends Forever suddenly talks about portals, there is nothing that indicates Silver cannot control his own time travel in the games (he even pops in just to go racing in TSR after getting an invitation and in Colours DS he's just hanging out while not facing the crisis at all) yet IDW is running rampant with it while furthermore directly contradicting some of its prior issues. Everyone is just making it very confusing with all this conflicting information, haha. If it were up to me, Silver can just time travel by himself with his PK. He can teleport and what-not, surely this isn't something that is impossible to ascribe to his powers as well. And if not, then with the Chaos Emeralds. Simple, easy, he keeps his agency, nothing confusing about it. Rant concluded😅😂

✍️ What’s your ideal writing setup?

I always just sit at my desk at home; for some reason I can't concentrate for the life of me to do school work there, but fic writing works just fine. Probably because I find it infinitely more fun, haha! And I have my dinky old untrusty laptop to write on <3 I always write in Word, and I have an extensive set-up with folders for my various WIPs and finished stories where I save them! Sometimes I wear earbuds with no music or anything playing to block out the sounds around me, though that is not always necessary and I can even find it distracting other times.

🚀 Do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?

I begin with creating as I go, just dumping down random scenes floating in my mind with little rhyme or reason between them. And once I have most of those ideas out of my head and on paper, I begin to look into what way I can make it all fit together! That can be... difficult, haha. But I try to keep a solid ending in mind that I want to work towards, which then helps me get down how the characters should get there. But here I do try and keep them IC by having them make choices that I feel they would reasonably make in canon as well. Though, to be quite honest, I do find it quite tough to outline. I often hit spots where I don't know how to best continue, or I run out of steam halfway through😅

Seeing people still talk positively about PK is genuinely upsetting.

This game was made by people who did not care for literal nazi propaganda being shared on their official Discord until it got known outside the server and their reputation was at risk.

They let anti blm propaganda thrive

They let transphobia thrive

Same with ableism

As a matter of fact the r slur is still not blacklisted on the server.

They only setup the basic Discord filter to cover their asses and that's it.

Don't support this fucking game.
