Masked Bobwhite Quail
.
Once thought extinct, these little feather balls are on the path to recovery. In their native home in southern Arizona there are efforts to reintroduce the species. Such a whirlwind of emotions researching them after getting to hang out with this cutie. Always incredible stumbling onto non-poster animal conservation stories after meeting them in a random place like Pennsylvania.

Four unnamed Black drag queens pose at the Granville Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA, c.1955, shot by Charles "Teenie" Harris (via the Carnegie Museum of Art). This photo is so stunning that I had to colorize it.

Downtown Pittsburgh from the "hot metal" bridge over the Monongahela River. The bridge is now part of the Pittsburgh heritage bike trail. In the past, the Hot Metal Bridge connected parts of the J&L Steel mill, carrying crucibles of molten iron from the blast furnaces in ladle transfer cars to the open hearth furnaces on the opposite bank.
