being a birdkin musician. first of all, the euphoria. music of all kinds makes me feel so bird, in such a weird way. pigeons don't play musical instruments, and still I feel more like one when I play them. and like. birds were meant to sing. (so were all animals that make Noise, I am a firm believer in that, but it hits harder for me with birds) birds were meant to sing! if the imposter syndrome is real, then you wouldn't have a voice, would you? if you weren't supposed to be making music then why is there a guitar in your hands?

but many pigeons have coos that sound a bit grating to some. we aren't the songbirds that people love. we are harsher sometimes. we bark, we are clumsier, we are stranger. birds are Noise, you don't need to be a songbird to make music, your coos and barks and everything can be just as melodic, just as pleasing and joyful, to the right music. make pigeon music. who is to say that your voice is wrong, if it is not hurting you? if it is the one that comes out of your throat? the one that serves you and who is to say that clumsiness is a sin? I don't know where I am going with this. this is a very half-finished though. :/

Henlo, I am Ves, but I will also respond happily if you just call me Dove, pigeon, birb, or refer to me as any bird names! I'm 25 years old at the time this is being written, I use any pronouns but I use he and they the most often! I am therian and Wings of Fire fictionkin in some way

@roaringcanine is my mate who has inspired me to be here! She is also a therian and we are engaged and I love her so muchhhhhhhhh I consider myself as a naturalist, I love doing art involving nature and animals as well as photography of it. I am very connected to nature and I am spiritual but I am not sure what label I would consider myself under in terms of spirituality, I just do and feel what makes sense to me! My other interests are birding, hiking, gaming, reading, learning about new creatures and plants! I've been in the therian community since like 2017 but I am only active in a couple small spaces and kind of just lurk mostly to be honest. I probably will not be very active, this is also like my first time ACTUALLY using Tumblr and sometimes I am bad at keeping up with other medias, I mostly use Discord and that is it but feel free to interact with me if you want to, I am a friendly birb I do not know what I will use this blog for mainly just checking out the therian and kin community in general just to see how it is like, maybe I will post stuff about being a birb or just random photos sometimes

The Early Days & Being a Bird

I’ve identified as otherkin & therian since 2017, and while I “dropped” it for periods in between I think it was always a big part of me.

Initially, I identified with being a bird, a pigeon in particular, and the only person I talked to about it was my girlfriend at the time. She didn’t really get it but she did her best to understand.

In retrospect, I believe I was having strong angel wing phantom limbs and my mems of being in the city related to my dog theriotype. But at the time, it was very real to me. I still honour that part of my journey as otherkin and I don’t think I was “wrong” per say, because I still get really similar feelings today.

I recall that during this time I would “joke” about being a therian with my friend group and they would tease me and treat the whole idea like it was totally absurd. That made be very scared to open up about feeling those emotions genuinely. But the therian community on Tumblr was a very welcome escape from the isolation.

This was a while before I had a full grasp of my transness & I’m sure that some of my gender feelings got conflated with species feelings, but I recall that the feeling of being “out of place” and subsequently finding a community that welcomed the absurd - to a regular person - was wildly relieving.

There are a few instances that made me feel a sense of connection I had never felt before at the time; firstly I can recall discovering request blogs and upon receiving the requests I put in, I was elated. It was pretty simple stuff, a moodboard, a Pokémon team, some recipes fit for a bird, but the most rewarding time was this. I found a kin doodle blog, I believe they had recently revamped their blog and had just opened requests up. I was the first to put in a request for a doodle of how I imagined my pigeon-self would look. Because I was first, they drew a really adorable fully coloured picture. I remember I kept that drawing as my phone background and used it as a profile picture everywhere I could. I was so happy

I don’t identify with being a pigeon any longer, let alone a bird at all, but these memories and my early days in the otherkin community are immensely important to me. I am very proud of my younger self and hold a lot of compassion for that version of me.

pigeonkin too often I get genuinely really scared by those fake owls they put on things to scare away birds because I always think they are real at first, and I forget that birds of prey don't want to eat me. (and I am kind of scared of some of them more specifically because i have been attacked by them before) and I sometimes forget that other peoples hands are part of human bodies and not separate entities. why is my brain so bad at braining

its ok i have beef with some birds too. happens to the best of us you know you just gotta— shit damn fuck i tripped and all the seeds i had in my pockets just fucking scattered over the ground in this park setting i hope nobody comes and eats all my precious grains
