So saw dune 2 and
OH MY GOD IT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD OH MY GODS
Spoilers below
Like by far my favorite scene is near when Paul is walking into the like south temple thing and it’s just a shot of him walking forward idk why it was so good
But like what had me just 🫨
Was when the fremen when they attacked the imperial army came in and the shot was just sand worms coming out of the ground like legit was just
“Oh shit they didn’t come to play?! Holy wow”
But also chani slapping paul when he came to was so funny to me just
“Yes baby slap that fool.”
“I will love you till my last breath” before saying he was gonna take princess irulans hand was just
“Oh that was meant to hurt you asshole”
Feyd-Rutha was def turned on when Paul yelled, and when he showed up and killed the baron like
“Oh him, him I want to fuck and kill…kill then fuck? Fuck while killing”
Feyd is fucking feral and I love it.
Jessica, as unhinged as ever with her doctrine, though I love the moments of her talking to her baby, that was pretty sick.
And I thought one of the people feyd fought in the ring on his planet was Alec and I was like “oh not my man”
Also the only time I was like “damn okay daddy” with Alec was the
“For my duke…and my friends” before yanking his knife out of rabbans throat
Like ITS SO GOD OH MY GOD.
Welp time to go buy dune and read it hoping I understand any of it.

Dune lore is fucking insane. I just finished the first book, and have concluded that Frank Herbert is a goddamn genius.
20,000 years in the future.
Matriarchal cult of eugenisist space-nuns with weird psychic powers
Houses that resemble the royalty of medieval earth, all still obsessed with power and profit over everything else
complex religions with clear inspirations of real-world present religions (specifically catholicism and islam)
Human supercomputers?? that are also assassins??
A prison planet that creates supersoldiers by killing the weak to filter out the strongest
the main villain being the physical embodiment of sin (gluttony, lust, greed)
politics. holy war. oppression of native peoples. false prophets. cults. drugs. worms.
and that just scratches the surface. theres five more books…

I've been waiting for Part Two ever since I watched the end scene for Dune in 2021, and it DID NOT disappoint! Part two was one of those movies where I felt like I needed to just process all I saw a few hours afterwards. The story was told so well and with such care for the source material, and the visuals were absolutely stunning. It's one of those movies (for me, at least) where it didn't feel nearly three hours long and I wanted just a bit more at the end, especially given the way that Villeneuve chose to close it that felt like a punch to the gut LOL
The parts that really stood out for me were the opening scene with the eclipse (HOLY COW I COULD GO ON ABOUT THAT SCENE FOR HOURS) and the way that the audience watches Paul struggle with embracing the identity of the Kwisatz Haderach for most of the film. I wanted to capture both of those parts with this piece, hinting at the internal conflict and the coming Holy War that's set up at the end of the movie with the blood on his hands.

The expression of terrible longing with which she gazed at Otheym strengthened Paul. Chani must never look at me that way, he told himself. — Dune Messiah.
