The Legend of the Valley
Parce watched the bedraggle line of humans as they made their way toward the little town where he once lived. These humans reminded him of a story his mother once told him. It was a story that she had been told by her mother and by her mother before that. Because he was the only cub from his litter to survive, she passed it to him.
Long ago, there were humans who came to their valley before it was a valley. They were frightened and fleeing from other humans who were trying to harm them. This was nothing new, humans often killed one another but, on this occasion, there was one human who while protecting her three cubs, threw back the pursuers and used her magic to create the valley where they now lived.
Parce did not believe the story when he first heard it, but his mother insisted he learn it word for word. Because, she told him he had a destiny of sorts to fulfill and that is why she named him as she did. She told him she had seen the elegida and the coming of that one meant the valley would be broken and more humans would come, but before that one would be born that would understand the animals of the valley. That one Parce would protect and keep from harm.
Parce remembered the day he’d heard the voice that called him by name and brought him into the world of humans. Human cubs took much longer to mature than jaguar cubs, so when Parce met this one, he found he had a gentle heart and the ability to speak with all the animals, not just him. They were only together a short time before the valley split, but Parce waited amongst the trees, keeping watch over the cub, because the voice of the elegida said it must be so.
Time passes for a jaguar differently than humans for while he waited, he’d had cubs of his own outside of the valley. When he heard the call again, he did not hesitate and found his human cub waiting for him near its den. The cub was a little larger, but he realized so was he. Flipping the cub up onto his back he entered the den and joined the other humans that dwelt in the den, they did not run away as most of their kind would. The elegida was there amongst them, and was joyous at his return.

Camilo and the rest of the family being protective over Mirabel when a boy ask her out. I think Antonio will scare the boys away
"Mirabel..." the boy sweated awkwardly... "Will you...go on...a...a...a-a..."
"On a what?" Camilo came up out of nowhere, scaring the shit out of his baby cousin and her potential boyfriend. "Hmm? Go on. You were saying something...exactly. Now read my lips: my baby cuz is too good for your sorry--"
"Silence, Camilo." Isabela swooped down with her vines and flipped her hair, and cactus pricks flew out and prodded the poor suitor in the face. "Scurry off, young man. My sister has a girlfriend already. And I think it's worth mentioning that she is VERY happy with her."
"Children, don't be like that to the poor suitor," Julieta said, conveniently holding a rolling pin. "Is that any way to treat a possible future member of La Familia Madrigal? Or at least let him believe so. It's not his fault that Mirabel is so out of his league. Isn't that right, young man?" She asked as she smacked the rolling pin against the palm of her hand threateningly, sauntering towards the boy as he crept back. "Isn't it?"
As the boy tried to run away, he felt a tug on his pants, and looked down to see little Antonio(finally, someone sane!), who smiled at him and said, "My jaguar is quite hungry. She would like to eat you. Are you all right with that?" as Parce advanced upon him, causing the boy to run away as Mirabel looked on in confusion, the rest of her family satisfied with the outcome.

I've been worried this week about birds of prey attacking my chickens—well, one bird of prey. I heard a hen make her very characteristic INTRUDER cry the other day and ran out of the house and there was a hawk flying in circles high above. I half-heartedly threw some sticks in its direction and told my hen not to be so dramatic (the hawk looked like it was minding its own business frankly), but the next day it happened again, and I thought, I've been unfair to the hens, the hawk from yesterday was actually reconnoitering and they could tell. Then there was another alert the next day. I was starting to get a bit alarmed about the fact that I was dealing with the world's most determined hawk—though I didn't see it again past the first time, I figured I arrived too late and Pandolf had already deterred it.
I ended up setting up a pen for the hens very near my house, under the hazel tree so they'd be sheltered, and spying from the kitchen window the next day, to see if it was still the same bird or what. It tended to attack at the same time every day, which was extra baffling.
And what I saw was Pandolf returning from his daily morning patrol around the pasture, faff around looking a bit bored, circle my house looking for me, and when he didn't find me, go to the chickens' pen and pretend to pounce on them like a fox, which startled them and made them cry out. Pandolf didn't touch them, he clearly just wanted them to make their magical Make Human Appear noise. Immediately after they yelped he turned to look at the front door expectantly, waiting for me to run out. He knows that when I get distracted from what I was doing indoors I often end up being like, well, now that I'm outside I might as well go do [outdoor chore of the day] and he gets to tag along, so he concocted this devious plan...
So. I must turn this post into a callout post for Pandolf. This is the face of a problematic dog, who tried to frame a hawk and use innocent hens for his own ends after he realised their person-summoning noises work while his do not.
