1. Consultation With A Pain management Roswell Specialist:
If you’re dealing with persistent pain, seeking the pain management Roswell expertise of a pain management specialist is essential. These healthcare professionals are trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat various types of pain conditions. A comprehensive consultation helps them understand the root cause of the pain and develop a personalized treatment plan.
2. Medication Management:
Pain medications can be effective in providing relief, but it’s crucial to use them under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Specialists may prescribe analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, or other medications based on the type and severity of the pain. It’s essential to communicate openly about any concerns or side effects to adjust the treatment plan as needed.
3. Physical Therapy:
Physical therapy is a cornerstone of pain management, focusing on restoring mobility, strength, and flexibility. Specialists in this field work with individuals to develop customized exercise programs that target specific areas of pain. This not only helps alleviate discomfort but also improves overall function and prevents future issues.
4. Mind-Body Techniques:
The mind and body are intricately connected, and managing pain involves addressing both aspects. Specialists often recommend mind-body techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, and guided imagery to help individuals relax and reduce stress. These practices can contribute to a more positive outlook and a better ability to cope with pain.
5. Acupuncture:
Acupuncture, an ancient Chinese healing technique, involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to promote balance and relieve pain. Many pain specialists incorporate acupuncture into their treatment plans, as some individuals experience significant relief from conditions such as chronic back pain, migraines, and arthritis.
6. Lifestyle Modifications:
Simple lifestyle changes can have a profound impact on pain management. Specialists may advise on maintaining a healthy weight, adopting proper posture, and staying physically active within individual limits. These modifications can prevent further strain on the body and contribute to long-term pain relief.
7. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a psychological approach that focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. Pain specialists often recommend CBT to help individuals manage the emotional aspects of chronic pain. By identifying and challenging negative beliefs, individuals can develop healthier coping mechanisms and improve their overall well-being.
8. Heat And Cold Therapy:
Applying heat or cold to the affected area can provide relief for many types of pain. Specialists may recommend using heating pads, warm baths, or cold packs based on the nature of the pain. These therapies help reduce inflammation, soothe sore muscles, and improve circulation.
9. Support Groups And Counseling:
Dealing with chronic pain can be isolating, and specialists recognize the importance of emotional support. Joining support groups or seeking counseling can provide a platform for individuals to share their experiences, learn from others, and receive guidance on coping strategies. Emotional well-being is an integral part of effective pain management.
Conclusion:
Effectively managing pain requires a holistic approach, addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of the individual. By consulting with pain management specialists and incorporating a combination of medication, physical therapy, mind-body techniques, and lifestyle modifications, individuals can regain control over their lives and experience improved overall well-being. It’s essential to work closely with healthcare professionals to develop a personalized pain management plan that suits individual needs and preferences. Remember, pain management is a collaborative effort, and with the right guidance, individuals can find relief and live more comfortably.

Lost Souls and Broken Deals
Plotted started for @lostxndbroken - John Constantine & Dean Winchester
A tired hand ran through already messy blond hair. There was a stain that looked awfully like dried blood on the hem of his trench coat and, in general, his clothes had definitely seen better days. Coupled with the dark bags that framed his eyes, most people would have assumed that he was either homeless or a lunatic.
He had been both, even if, currently, he was more leaning towards the latter since he had a roof over his head...A couple of states away, at least.
A frustrated sigh came to his lips. As much as he didn’t exactly enjoy looking worse for wear, he had given up on trying to keep himself tidier years before. His history, the too many enemies he had made and his job made it impossible for him to keep better appearances. It was a miracle that he still bothered to shave, and even that was mostly out of convenience. A beard was a pain in the ass to keep and he refused to have to deal with that sort of thing too when his hands were constantly full with other, more pressing matters.
You couldn’t have everything in life. And, if you were John Constantine, it was already a little miracle if you could have something at all.
In any case, considering his current state, he shouldn’t have been surprised that one of the policemen at the crime scene had stopped him when he had approached the yellow tape to have a discreet look at it.
In hindsight, he had to admit that stopping by some motel to take a shower and maybe change his shirt would have been wiser, but he had been eager to follow the tracks while they were still fresh. He had been stalking that hellish motherfucker for almost two weeks now and he was growing really fed up with having to be constantly on the move to keep up with them.
Had it been anything else, he might have given up and gone back to Atlanta, but this was different. This was about the one thing he could have never let go, and even if the chances that this was yet another false lead...He had to follow it to the source. No matter the risks, the discomfort, the consequences.
John finally managed to disentangle himself from the agent with a tight grin, and if the man had let him go just because he had sprinkled in a little magical suggestion, well, he had never been one to play fair. Especially not when he was in a hurry.
Tumblr media
He brought a freshly lit cigarette to his lips and was about to turn on his heels and leave the scene when he caught the sight of a car approaching the scene. The man who stepped out from it approached another agent, introducing himself as some sort of expert, but that was definitely not the sort of vehicle Animal Control usually drove.
He had a few ideas of what that could mean and he didn’t want to have anything to do with it. The sooner he left, the better. The last thing he needed was to attract more unwanted attention, and of the kind that would have been hard to shake off.
However, before he could pull a vanishing act, he and the guy accidentally locked eyes and the occultist knew that he had been spotted.
“Shite,” he cursed under his breath.
He could have made a run for it, but it would have only just made his situation was. So, instead, he gritted his teeth and waited for the man to approach him. He could only hope that he could have weaseled his way out of that talk quickly enough, but...That would have been asking for too much, wouldn’t it?

Nellie Mae Rowe (1900 – 1982) was an African-American artist from Fayette County, Georgia. Although she is best known today for her colorful works on paper, Rowe worked across mediums, creating drawings, collages, altered photographs, hand-sewn dolls, home installations and sculptural environments. She was said to have an "instinctive understanding of the relation between color and form." Her work focuses on race, gender, domesticity, African-American folklore, and spiritual traditions.
Born on July 4, 1900, Rowe grew up in the farming community of Fayetteville, Georgia. She was one of ten children. It was noted that she began drawing at an early age. Her family was burdened by financial pressures and she left school after the fourth grade to work in the fields with her father, a former slave, Sam Williams. In addition to managing the rented family farm, her father worked as a blacksmith and basket weaver. Her mother, Luelle Swanson, was an expert seamstress and a quilter. Rowe's mother taught her to create dolls, quilts and small wooden sculptures.
When Rowe was 16, she ran away from the farm because she found the work to be "painful, poorly compensated and undignified." Rowe married Ben Wheat right after leaving the family farm. The couple remained in Fayetteville until 1930, when they moved in Vinings, a small rural community northwest of Atlanta. In Vinings, Rowe began to work as a domestic. In 1936 her husband died from cardiovascular renal disease.
Rowe met her second husband, Henry 'Buddy' Rowe, an older widower and fellow Vinings resident in 1937. In 1939, the couple built a home together that Rowe called her "playhouse." It was located at 2041 Paces Ferry Road. When Henry died nine years later, Rowe, now at the age of forty-eight devoted her full attention to her art making.
Over the span of the next three decades, Rowe developed a large body of multifaceted work. In the final decade of her life, her art was shown at local and national galleries and museum. In November 1981, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. On October 18, 1982, after spending her final weeks in the hospital, Rowe died. She is buried in the Flat Rock A.M.E. Cemetery in Fayetteville, Georgia.

Types of Specialized Wound Care in Atlanta, GA and Altamonte Springs, FL
Being injured in an accident or due to careless handling of tasks can be painful, with the risks of developing infections possible for many. Sure, more meticulous care is needed always to be hale and hearty. Unfortunately, life comes with ups and downs, and many individuals must take care of deep wounds that last for a long time before closing perfectly. Most hospitals will ensure wound management for a short time, with the patient discharged when there are no complications. Hiring experts for wound care in Atlanta, GA, and Altamonte Springs, FL is advisable to ensure the patient's well-being. It is essential to understand that not all wounds require the same kind of painstaking care. On the contrary, a skin wound or scratch may be treated with first aid and will eventually close without too much trouble. However, it is vital to have a professional nurse or wound care specialist around to take care of the following wounds that are known to worsen if left untreated:
· Surgical Incision- True, a surgical intervention is invasive and results in cutting deep into the skin to reach the required organ or tissues. The incision remains behind as a wound after the opening has been sutured close. The patient may be discharged from the hospital with the wound bandaged securely. Now, it is the responsibility of the home care provider, family members, or a dedicated nurse to manage the wound as advised. It is best to hire an expert who will not only take on the duty of changing the bandage and application of topical medicines but also check the wound for signs of infection.
· Stoma-  This is an opening made for inserting pipes or inlets used for feeding and eliminating waste products or medication. The gaping hole in the body requires close attention and cleaning regularly. A wound care expert would be able to manage the wound effectively by keeping the skin smooth and supple and inhibiting infections at the same time. The patient will also be educated about the dos and don'ts with lifestyle adjustments suggested by the expert as and when required.
· Pressure Ulcers—This is a severe condition often observed in patients confined to bed. The open wounds created by constant pressure on the skin may become infected when no care is taken to keep them in check. Alternatively, they are termed bed sores. The wound care expert will assess the patient's condition and provide preventive measures to facilitate healing while keeping infections at bay.
· Foot Ulcer- Many patients with severe diabetes develop foot ulcers due to poor circulation and neuropathy.  Top wound care experts are equipped to provide the right management , including dressing changes, offloading techniques, and comprehensive foot care.
A patient who requires constant care with health issues may find it more comfortable to use in-home nursing in Atlanta and Alpharetta, GA, instead of depending on a home attendant who can provide only basic care.

Harnessing the Healing Power with Jeff Glattstein_ Exploring Energy Medicine_s Physical Benefits
Lena Franklin Atlanta
Harnessing the Healing Power with Jeff Glattstein: Exploring Energy Medicine's Physical Benefits
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in alternative healing modalities, with energy medicine emerging as a powerful tool for promoting physical well-being and vitality. Energy medicine encompasses a variety of practices that work with the body's subtle energy systems to facilitate healing and restore balance. From acupuncture and Reiki to qigong and therapeutic touch, these modalities tap into the body's innate ability to heal itself, addressing the root causes of illness and promoting holistic wellness. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the physical benefits of energy medicine, examining how these practices can support health, alleviate symptoms, and enhance overall vitality.
Pain Management: Alleviating Discomfort and Promoting Relief
One of the primary benefits of energy medicine is its effectiveness in managing pain and discomfort. Techniques such as acupuncture and acupressure target specific energy meridians in the body, helping to release blockages and restore the smooth flow of energy. This can help alleviate pain caused by conditions such as migraines, arthritis, and fibromyalgia, promoting relief and improving quality of life. Additionally, modalities like Reiki and therapeutic touch work to rebalance the body's energy field, reducing tension and promoting relaxation, which can further alleviate physical discomfort and promote healing.
Moreover, energy medicine practices often address the underlying causes of pain rather than just masking symptoms, providing long-lasting relief and promoting overall well-being. By addressing imbalances in the body's energy systems as highlighted by experts like Jeff Glattstein, energy medicine practitioners help clients tap into their body's natural healing abilities, fostering a sense of empowerment and self-awareness. This holistic approach to pain management offers a safe and non-invasive alternative to conventional pain medications, providing individuals with effective tools for managing chronic pain and promoting optimal health.
Stress Reduction: Enhancing Relaxation and Resilience
Another significant benefit of energy medicine is its ability to reduce stress and promote relaxation. Techniques such as qigong, tai chi, and yoga work to harmonize the body's energy flow, promoting a sense of calmness and inner peace. These practices help release tension held in the body, calm the mind, and reduce the production of stress hormones, such as cortisol, which can have a detrimental effect on physical health over time. Additionally, modalities like Reiki and meditation help individuals connect with their inner selves, fostering a sense of mindfulness and presence that can alleviate stress and promote emotional well-being.
Furthermore, energy medicine practices help individuals develop resilience to stress by strengthening their energetic boundaries and enhancing their ability to cope with life's challenges. By cultivating a deeper awareness of their body's energy systems as guided by experts like Jeff Glattstein, individuals can learn to recognize and respond to stress more effectively, reducing its impact on their physical and emotional health. This increased resilience not only promotes overall well-being but also helps individuals navigate life's ups and downs with greater ease and grace. As a result, energy medicine serves as a valuable tool for promoting stress reduction and enhancing resilience, empowering individuals to lead happier, healthier lives.
Improved Immune Function: Strengthening the Body's Defense
Energy medicine has been shown to have positive effects on the immune system, helping to strengthen the body's natural defense mechanisms. Practices like acupuncture and Reiki stimulate the flow of energy throughout the body, which can enhance immune function by promoting circulation, reducing inflammation, and supporting the body's ability to fight off pathogens. Additionally, techniques such as qigong and yoga help to reduce stress levels, which can have a direct impact on immune function. Chronic stress has been linked to suppressed immune response, making stress reduction an essential component of maintaining a healthy immune system. By incorporating energy medicine practices into their routine, individuals can support their immune system's ability to ward off illness and maintain optimal health.
Furthermore, energy medicine modalities often focus on addressing the root causes of illness rather than just treating symptoms, which can lead to more effective and lasting improvements in immune function. By restoring balance to the body's energy systems as highlighted by experts like Jeff Glattstein, energy medicine practitioners help to remove blockages and imbalances that may be compromising the immune system's ability to function properly. This holistic approach to health and wellness promotes overall well-being and resilience, empowering individuals to take an active role in maintaining their health and vitality.
Enhanced Physical Healing: Accelerating Recovery and Rehabilitation
Another significant benefit of energy medicine is its ability to accelerate the body's natural healing processes. Techniques such as acupuncture and acupressure stimulate the body's self-healing mechanisms, promoting circulation, reducing inflammation, and facilitating the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to injured tissues. This can help speed up the recovery process for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including sports injuries, surgical recovery, and musculoskeletal disorders. Additionally, modalities like Reiki and therapeutic touch promote relaxation and stress reduction, which are essential components of the healing process.
Moreover, energy medicine practices can complement conventional medical treatments by addressing the energetic imbalances that may be contributing to physical symptoms. By working in conjunction with other therapies, energy medicine can enhance the effectiveness of medical interventions and support the body's ability to heal itself. This integrative approach to healing promotes a comprehensive and holistic approach to healthcare, addressing the physical, emotional, and energetic aspects of health and wellness. By harnessing the body's innate healing abilities as highlighted by experts like Jeff Glattstein, energy medicine empowers individuals to take an active role in their recovery and rehabilitation, promoting optimal health and well-being.
Increased Energy and Vitality: Rejuvenating Body and Mind
Energy medicine practices are also known for their ability to increase energy levels and promote vitality. Techniques such as qigong and tai chi help to balance the body's energy flow, promoting a sense of vitality and well-being. These practices work to remove blockages and imbalances in the body's energy systems, allowing energy to flow freely and supporting overall vitality. Additionally, modalities like Reiki and acupuncture can help to restore balance to the body's energy centers, promoting a sense of balance and harmony that can increase energy levels and improve overall quality of life.
Furthermore, energy medicine practices often focus on promoting relaxation and stress reduction, which can help individuals feel more energized and rejuvenated. Chronic stress can deplete the body's energy reserves and lead to fatigue and burnout, making stress reduction an essential component of maintaining energy and vitality. By incorporating energy medicine practices into their routine as emphasized by experts like Jeff Glattstein, individuals can recharge their energy levels, improve their resilience to stress, and enhance their overall sense of well-being. This renewed vitality can have far-reaching effects on all aspects of life, empowering individuals to pursue their goals and aspirations with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.
Energy medicine offers a wide range of physical benefits, from pain management and stress reduction to improved immune function and enhanced physical healing. By working with the body's subtle energy systems, energy medicine practitioners help individuals tap into their body's natural healing abilities, promoting holistic wellness and vitality. Whether used as a complementary therapy or as a standalone treatment, energy medicine has the potential to transform health and well-being, empowering individuals to live healthier, more vibrant lives. Through its emphasis on restoring balance and harmony to the body, mind, and spirit, energy medicine offers a holistic approach to health that addresses the root causes of illness and promotes lasting wellness.

Cars Headcanon: Doc's Grandfather
I'm Fleshing out the characters for a Cars fanfic. Gonna revisit Doc's grandfather now that I have a more solid idea of how he fits into the story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doc's grandfather was Otis James Glenrunner (factory designation: O50E1927185CU05121905 Cycle 9, Rotation 183, Batch 12B). He was the youngest of three children sired by Samson Glenrunner and Aiofe Maeve Glenrunner nee O'Brien…though his siblings wouldn't survive the Desert Days, a mega-drought that followed the Factory Wars, crippling the world economy between 1876 and 1897. He was modeled in the likeness of an Old World, 1927 Oldsmobile model 50E coupe, and was manufactured on 05/12/1905 at the Oldsmobile Factory in Detroit, Michigan.
Otis' parents survived the Desert Days by partnering with another, prominent, family in the area--the Longhaulers--fixing 'em up in exchange for a portion of their corn and lumber. Otis' father was able to turn the crops and wood into an ethanol-based fuel, that wasn't near as good as gasoline, but it was better than a lot of other "poor fuels" being cooked up at the time. They'd turn the leftover corn into moonshine to extend its shelf-life…and sell it to make additional cash.
Otis learned the family trades, and was an expert mechanic by the time he was eight. When prohibition started in '15, he helped his father run moonshine to Atlanta, and took a more active role in maintaining the still. Two years later, the ATF raided the garage and destroyed the still. His father was shot trying to protect it, and would succumb to his wounds a week later.
Following his passing, Otis took over running the garage, and immediately started work on a new still, but this time around, he was gonna make it much harder to find. His friend, Skids Longhauler, gave him a map of the old underground anthracite mines, and while exploring one day, he happened to find a ventilation tunnel that ran under his property. He shored up the walls, extended the tunnel to a nearby creek and with some help from Skids and his brother, Spinney, they were able to divert half of the creek's flow through the tunnel and used it to make an industrial-grade still.
By '19, he had made enough money selling moonshine that he was able to add a convenience store to the garage, rebranding the business Glenrunner's All-in-One. He married Elizabeth Marie Owen in '20, and the pair would sire twin boys, Carl and James, that same year. The Great Depression of '21 would hit the town hard, and many of the Glenrunner's, including Otis' mother and step-father, would give up on the town and head north. Otis and his wife decided to stay, with Otis managing the garage and Elizabeth running the store.
Once Carl and James were four, Elizabeth began training them to run the store seeing as neither wanted to become a mechanic. Otis and Elizabeth would sire a daughter, Annette, in '25. Three months later, while closing up the shop, Elizabeth began complaining of intense pain near her coupling panel. As there wasn't an actual hospital in town, Otis asked Skids' if he could help transport her to Atlanta, but she collapsed just as they were getting ready to leave…and died an hour later. Her cause of death was ruled to be "complications from siring," though Otis had a strong suspicion that the technician who serviced her at the Cadillac factory was somehow complicit. James and Carl, despite only being five, stepped up to help him run the shop…and when Annette turned five, Otis began teaching her mechanical engineering.
About that time, Skids was injured in a freak logging accident. Spinney called Otis to the line, but the injuries to Skid's cabin were too severe, and Otis could only watch as his best friend died in front of him. Spinney was devastated. He blamed Otis for Skid's death, and the once amicable relationship between the Longhaulers and the Glenrunners began to wane.
His daughter, Annette, married Spinney's son (and Skid's nephew), Samuel Longhauler, in '36, much to his surprise. Everything seemed good for a time. However, Annette and Sam were unable to sire children together. Diagnostic scans of Annette's reproductive hardware revealed nothing out of sorts, and Otis began to suspect that Spinney knew his son was sterile and wanted him to marry Annette as a way of getting back at Otis.
In '38, Annette had an affair with the wanted outlaw, Diesel O'Twill, whom was badly injured in the collision that actually stopped his daughter from killing herself. Otis recognized the tripper right away, and did everything in his power to speed along "Ghost's" repairs...not wanting to attract the wrong sort of attention to his garage...and the still hidden underneath it. Despite being angry with Annette for doing something so rash...he accompanied her to Detroit to pick up his grandson.
Otis, James and Carl were arrested in '47 when the ATF raided the garage looking for Annette's son, Hudson. Upon being released in '53, he was horrified to discover that Annette had worked herself near to death trying to keep the business running with only Sam to help her. He took on some of her work at the garage, hoping that the lighter workload would help her recover, but Hud's crash in '54 combined with Sam's untimely passing in '58 was too much, and Otis would lose his beloved daughter in '59 due to cabin fatigue.
He and his sons kept running Glenrunner's until '89, when Carl passed due to natural causes. He and James would retire soon after that, selling the business and moving to Buffalo, New York. There they would open the Hidden Still Distillery, selling various types of whiskey as a way to keep busy and make a bit of cash.
Like most everyone else in the country, they were watching the tie-breaker race between Lightning McQueen, Chick Hicks and Strip Weathers…and were shocked and surprised to see that Hud was alive and well…and, once again, involved in racing. It wouldn't be until '08 that they'd be reunited, flying out to Radiator Springs to spend a few weeks with Hud, catching up and otherwise enjoying his company. James would pass in '13, and Otis would pass in '15, having outlived all of his children and grandchildren.
Personality wise, Otis was intelligent, shrewd and innovative. He was also a loving and devoted father and husband who would do anything to protect his kids. But he was also a rule breaker, willing to straddle the grey area between morally justified and questionable if it would ensure his family's safety and/or security.
Interesting Facts: He and Elizabeth's marriage was arranged. He was a good brawler, and held his own against Spinney, a pickup truck, when the two of them got into a physical altercation over the whole Annette/Sam infertility debacle. He was an excellent singer, specializing in Old World music. He had hidden compartments all over his body from his time as a whiskey tripper.

Why You Should Consult with an Attorney After a Truck Accident
A truck accident can be tragic and life-changing, especially if it results in serious injuries or fatalities. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released figures showing the projections for roadway fatalities in 2022, estimating that 42,795 people died in traffic crashes.
Even though a truck accident might happen in the span of a single blink, the effects can be long-lasting. If you have been hurt, you might be entitled to financial and physical damages recompense. In such situations, filing a personal injury lawsuit against the negligent parties becomes essential, and it is extremely advised to engage a truck accident lawyer at this point.
Here are a few strong arguments in favor of hiring a truck accident attorney:
Multiple parties could be jointly liable:
Not merely the truck driver is frequently at fault in truck accidents. In order to obtain fair compensation, it is essential to identify all parties who might be at fault. In addition to the driver, additional parties that may be held jointly responsible include the trucking business, producers of trucks and parts, repair shops, regulatory authorities for cargo firms, and other organizations. A commercial accident attorney can assist in making sure that everyone accountable is punished, increasing your chances of getting the settlement you are due.
Complex Issues with Liability:
Liability in a crash involving a commercial vehicle can be difficult to determine because numerous parties may be somewhat at fault. For instance, the truck driver may be somewhat at fault, and their employer as well as the cargo-loading company may also be accountable. These difficulties highlight the value of legal counsel in navigating the complexity of responsibility and putting forth a compelling defense.
Getting Around the Legal System:
Due to its complexity and potential difficulties, bringing a truck accident lawsuit can be a daunting undertaking. In order to ensure that your rights are preserved and safeguarded throughout the legal process, it is crucial that you consult with an expert truck accident lawyer.
Affordable legal assistance:
You shouldn’t let worries about the cost of legal representation keep you from contacting a qualified attorney. The Reed Law Firm and other truck accident attorneys frequently operate on a contingency fee basis. This ensures that legal representation is available when you need it most because you don’t pay any fees in advance and only incur charges if they successfully get a settlement or award on your behalf.
Comprehensive Damages Consideration:
Beyond the obvious injuries, truck accidents can result in a wide range of damages. These are just a few examples of the financial damages you can suffer: medical expenses, property damage, auto repair charges, and lost pay. It’s vital not to disregard upcoming costs for medical treatment and probable lost wages, though. Non-economic losses like pain and suffering can also have a big effect on your life. A commercial trucking accident attorney will make sure that each of these elements is carefully evaluated and taken into account in your compensation request.
Managing Resistance from Insurance Companies:
Even when numerous parties are involved in a truck accident, insurance firms frequently try to limit their claims. They might make contact with you soon after the occurrence and make a meager settlement offer while gathering information that they could later use against you. It’s recommended to have a truck accident attorney handle discussions with insurance companies on your behalf in order to protect your rights and prevent being taken advantage of.
To ensure you receive the justice and compensation you are entitled to following a truck accident, it is imperative to speak with an expert truck accident lawyer. Call Reed Law Firm at (470) 282–5563 if a trucking accident has left you hurt in Atlanta or the nearby region. Our devoted team is committed to assisting truck accident victims in navigating the legal system and obtaining the greatest results for their cases.

Energy Medicine for Stress Relief: Techniques to Restore Balance and Vitality by Jeff Glattstein
In today's fast-paced world, stress has become an all too common companion, affecting our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. While traditional approaches to stress management such as exercise, meditation, and therapy can be effective, many people are turning to alternative therapies like energy medicine for relief. Energy medicine focuses on restoring balance and vitality to the body's energy systems, offering a holistic approach to stress relief. In this blog, we explore various techniques of energy medicine with the help of experts like Jeff Glattstein that can help alleviate stress and promote overall well-being.
Understanding Energy Medicine: The Body's Energy Systems
Energy medicine is based on the premise that the human body is composed of energy fields that play a crucial role in maintaining health and vitality. These energy fields, including the chakras, meridians, and aura, are interconnected and influence physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. When the flow of energy within these systems becomes disrupted or blocked, it can manifest as symptoms of stress, illness, or imbalance.
Practitioners of energy medicine use various techniques to restore balance to the body's energy systems, including acupuncture, Reiki, qigong, and crystal therapy. These modalities work by clearing energy blockages, harmonizing the flow of energy, and stimulating the body's innate healing mechanisms. By addressing imbalances at the energetic level, energy medicine, as emphasized by experts like Jeff Glattstein, offers a holistic approach to stress relief that goes beyond just treating symptoms, promoting deep healing and restoration of vitality.
Breathwork: Harnessing the Power of the Breath
One of the simplest yet most powerful techniques in energy medicine for stress relief is breathwork. Conscious breathing exercises help calm the nervous system, reduce tension, and promote relaxation, making them effective tools for managing stress and anxiety. Techniques such as deep diaphragmatic breathing, alternate nostril breathing, and breath awareness can help individuals cultivate a sense of inner peace and calm amidst the chaos of daily life.
Moreover, breathwork helps individuals connect with their body's natural rhythm and energy flow, facilitating the release of stagnant energy and promoting a sense of balance and vitality. By incorporating breathwork into their daily routine as guided by experts like Jeff Glattstein, individuals can develop greater resilience to stress, enhance their overall well-being, and cultivate a deeper connection with themselves and the world around them.
Acupressure: Stimulating Energy Points for Relief
Acupressure is another effective technique in energy medicine for stress relief, drawing upon the principles of traditional Chinese medicine to restore balance to the body's energy meridians. By applying gentle pressure to specific acupoints along the body's meridian pathways, acupressure helps release tension, alleviate pain, and promote relaxation. This technique can be easily incorporated into self-care routines and can be performed anytime, anywhere, making it a convenient tool for managing stress on the go.
Furthermore, acupressure stimulates the body's natural healing mechanisms, triggering the release of endorphins and other feel-good hormones that promote a sense of well-being. Regular practice of acupressure can help individuals reduce stress levels, improve sleep quality, and enhance overall vitality and resilience. Whether used as a standalone therapy or in conjunction with other stress management techniques, acupressure offers a simple yet powerful way to restore balance and harmony to the body's energy systems.
Visualization: Harnessing the Power of the Mind
Visualization is a powerful technique in energy medicine that involves mentally creating vivid images or scenarios to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and enhance well-being. By visualizing calming scenes under the guidance of experts like Jeff Glattstein individuals can evoke feelings of relaxation and tranquility, helping to quiet the mind and soothe the nervous system. Additionally, visualization can be used to imagine energy flowing freely throughout the body, clearing blockages and restoring balance to the body's energy systems.
Moreover, visualization can be combined with other relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or progressive muscle relaxation, to enhance its effectiveness. By incorporating visualization into a regular meditation practice or relaxation routine, individuals can cultivate greater resilience to stress, improve their mood, and enhance their overall sense of well-being. Whether used alone or in conjunction with other energy medicine techniques, visualization offers a simple yet potent tool for restoring balance and vitality to the body and mind.
Sound Healing: Balancing Energy with Vibrational Medicine
Sound healing is an ancient practice that utilizes the power of sound vibrations to restore balance and harmony to the body's energy systems. From chanting and drumming to singing bowls and tuning forks, various sound healing techniques can be used to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being. Sound waves have the ability to penetrate deep into the body, affecting cells, tissues, and organs at the molecular level, making them a potent tool for healing and transformation.
Furthermore, sound healing can help release stagnant energy and emotional blockages, promoting a sense of flow and vitality within the body. By experiencing the soothing vibrations of sound, individuals can enter into a state of deep relaxation, allowing the body's natural healing mechanisms to activate and restore balance to the energy system. Whether used in a therapeutic setting or as a personal practice, sound healing offers a unique and effective approach to stress relief and holistic wellness.
Energy medicine offers a holistic approach to stress relief that focuses on restoring balance and vitality to the body's energy systems. Techniques such as breathwork and acupressure help calm the nervous system, release tension, and promote relaxation, making them effective tools for managing stress and promoting overall well-being. By incorporating these techniques into their daily routine under the guidance of experts like Jeff Glattstein, individuals can cultivate greater resilience to stress, enhance their overall vitality, and foster a deeper connection with themselves and the world around them.
As we continue to explore the benefits of energy medicine for stress relief, we open up new possibilities for healing and transformation, both individually and collectively. Through the practice of energy medicine, we can tap into the body's innate wisdom and capacity for healing, restoring balance and vitality to every aspect of our lives.

Deeper-seated lesions like nodules and cysts are more severe, causing painful, large bumps beneath the skin’s surface.

2. WHAT CAUSES ACNE?
Acne is a multifaceted skin condition with various factors contributing to its development. One primary cause is the overproduction of sebum, an oil naturally produced by the skin, leading to clogged hair follicles and the formation of acne lesions. Hormonal fluctuations, especially during puberty, can stimulate increased sebum production, making adolescents more prone to acne. Genetics also play a role, as individuals with a family history of acne may be more susceptible.
In Georgia, individuals seeking effective acne treatment have access to diverse options. Over-the-counter products containing ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide are readily available. Additionally, professional acne treatment in Georgia is provided by dermatologists and skincare clinics, offering personalized solutions such as prescription medications, chemical peels, and advanced therapies like laser treatment to address varying degrees of acne severity.

To find expert care and convenient skin tightening treatments, individuals can search for “skin tightening treatments near me,” ensuring accessibility to professional skincare services.
3. WHICH HORMONES CAUSE ACNE?
Acne is often influenced by hormonal fluctuations, with certain hormones playing a pivotal role in its development. Androgens, a group of male sex hormones that includes testosterone, are primary contributors. These hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more oil (sebum), leading to clogged pores and the formation of acne lesions. Puberty triggers a surge in androgen production, making adolescents more prone to acne.
In Georgia, effective acne treatment options cater to the underlying hormonal factors. Over-the-counter products with ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide are accessible, and professional acne treatment in Georgia provides specialized care. Dermatologists and skincare clinics offer tailored solutions, including prescription medications and advanced therapies like laser treatment. While diet can influence skin health, fixing acne solely through dietary changes varies among individuals. Adopting a diet low in refined sugars and processed carbohydrates, and rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains may benefit some. However, acne is a multifaceted condition influenced by genetics, hormones, and skincare practices. Achieving effective results often involves a comprehensive approach.
In Georgia, residents have access to diverse acne treatments, ranging from over-the-counter solutions to professional interventions. Dermatologists and skincare clinics offer personalized acne treatments, including prescription medications and advanced therapies like laser treatments.

Author Interview with Mayra Cuevas
Today we will get to know CNN producer and debut author Mayra Cuevas. Her book SALTY, BITTER, SWEET releases today.
Seventeen-year-old aspiring chef Isabella Fields’ family life has fallen apart after the death of her Cuban abuela and the divorce of her parents. She moves in with her dad and his new wife in France, where Isabella feels like an outsider in her father’s new life, studiously avoiding the awkward, “Why did you cheat on Mom?” conversation.
The upside of Isabella’s world being turned upside down? Her father’s house is located only 30 minutes away from the restaurant of world-famous Chef Pascal Grattard, who runs a prestigious and competitive international kitchen apprenticeship. The prize job at Chef Grattard’s renowned restaurant also represents a transformative opportunity for Isabella, who is desperate to get her life back in order.
But how can Isabella expect to hold it together when she’s at the bottom of her class at the apprenticeship, her new stepmom is pregnant, she misses her abuela dearly, and a mysterious new guy and his albino dog fall into her life?
Crystal: Mayra, thanks so much for taking the time to answer a few questions about your writing life and your debut novel SALTY, BITTER, SWEET. What does writing mean to you and when did you begin to consider yourself a writer?
Mayra: It was in the eighth grade. I was really into Julia de Burgos’ poetry back then and only beginning to understand the healing power of the written word. Julia’s work inspired me to write my own poems, as a way to cope with some difficulties at home. After many tries, I wrote a poem that I thought was pretty good — about how your feelings can be like a storm. My English teacher at the time, Mr. Antonio Colorado, was this super encouraging person. He knew I loved books and always lent me new titles to read and pushed me to work harder on my poetry. I gave him a copy of the poem I had written and he asked me if he could read it in class. I agreed, under the condition that he did not reveal my name. I mean, it was eighth grade, I didn’t want this to be the end of my social life. But when he read it, everyone went quiet and listened. And something magical happened, I felt connected to everyone in the room. In that moment, my words mattered and I felt seen for probably the first time. And what was even more amazing, after he read the poem, there was a discussion and people were talking about my words and how it affected them. I’ll never forget it.
Crystal: How has your career as a journalist prepared you for writing young adult novels? Was it a fairly smooth transition?
Mayra: No! (laughs hysterically) I *thought* it would be a smooth transition! But boy was I wrong. When I started writing fiction back in 2012 I remember thinking, ‘Oh I’ve been a professional journalist for over ten years, how hard can it be to write a novel?’ Well, as it turns out, writing a novel is very hard. And getting published is even harder. But there are two skills that transferred from journalism into publishing: 1) resilience and 2) working with editors.
Years of getting my story pitches rejected prepared me for the soul-crushing rejection I faced in the publishing world. My first manuscript was rejected by 200 agents! And somehow I managed to keep going.
My news background also prepared me to work with editors. I had lots of practice getting my news stories edited, nitpicked and pulled apart — that’s just the nature of the news business. And it’s no different in publishing.
Crystal: I’m guessing you’ve spent quite a bit of time in kitchens. What are some of your most interesting cooking experiences or other memorable moments around food?
Mayra: I’m a total foodie so when it came time to research Salty, Bitter, Sweet I went all out!
I reached out to the amazing Carla Tomasko, the pastry chef at Bacchanalia, one of Atlanta’s top restaurants. She agreed to serve as my guide through the workings of a real high-end kitchen. She also shared her story of working as a woman in a male-dominated environment and as an immigrant from Ecuador. She also recounted how her Latin roots helped shape her craft.
The time I spent in Bacchanalia’s kitchen was amazing! I got to see how the executive chefs prepared the day’s menu, how they selected ingredients and crafted the most exquisite dishes. All the while, I was taking copious notes of every detail I could use to make Isa’s journey as authentic as possible. I think it paid off because it seems to be everyone’s favorite part of the book!
Crystal: What do you love most about your characters Isa and Diego?
Mayra: They are two young people who are going through their own private pain — as we all do. At first, Isa sees him as a threat to the delicate balance of her new life. And in a way she is right to feel threatened, because Diego has arrived to upend everything she thought she wanted. In turn, Isa will help Diego make peace with his own life decisions.
Yes, there are some romantic moments, but it’s mostly about meeting someone who sees you for the first time and loves you in spite of all the broken bits.
Crystal: Though some things in Isa’s life seem to have some relationship to parts of your own life, were there things you needed to research as you wrote your way through this story?
Mayra: There were two main veins of research: the world of haute cuisine and the multiple locations where the book is set — six cities in total.
For the kitchen research, I interviewed and spent time with two amazing female chefs: Carla Tomasko, the pastry chef at Bacchanalia, one of Atlanta’s top restaurants, and Daniella Fitzgerald, who spends her days cooking for rich folks in yachts. She had some hilarious stories!
I also read memoirs like 32 Yolks: From My Mother’s Table to Working the Line by Veronica Chambers and Eric Ripert, and watched documentaries like Pressure Cooker and Three Stars.
For the travel research I watched a million YouTube videos and read as many travel blogs. I also engaged an all-things-France expert to make sure every detail of Isa’s journey through Lyon was authentic.
Crystal: Are any of your favorite foods mentioned in the story? Can you tell us about one or two?
Mayra: Like Isa and her abuela Lala I enjoy bridging my two worlds by making Spanish flan and All-American apple pie — my husband’s favorite.
The flan recipe belongs to my Venezuelan friend Paula. I love that recipe because it’s been handed down through generations and it survived a political revolution.
Crystal: Have there been any big surprises along the road to publication?
Mayra: The most amazing surprise was being invited to join Las Musas, a Latina authors collective. These women are incredibly talented, supportive and generous. The founders did a wonderful job of creating a space where we can uplift each other and our work, share important news, and have each other’s back. I love these women and I’m humbled and proud to be part of this community.
Crystal: Are there any current YA books that you wish had existed when you were younger?
Mayra: All of the books from Las Musas!
Crystal: *Hurries off to visit the webpage for Las Musas* That looks like a wonderful group! Can you tell us anything about your current projects or your writing plans for the future?
Mayra: My short story Resilient will be published as part of the anthology FORESHADOW: The Magic of Reading & Writing YA (Algonquin Young Readers). I’m also co-writing a novel with Atlanta author Marie Marquardt, which can be best described as a feminist unicorn.
Crystal: Thanks again for your willingness to share your time and even your recipe with us! We wish you all the best with your debut.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Mayra Cuevas is a professional journalist and fiction writer who prefers love stories with a happy ending. Her debut novel, SALTY, BITTER, SWEET, launched March 3 with HarperCollins/Blink. Her debut fiction short story was selected by best-selling author Becky Albertalli to appear in the Foreshadow serial anthology Issue 04 in April 2019. She is currently a special projects producer and writer for CNN. She keeps her sanity by practicing Buddhist meditation and serving on the Board of Directors of Kadampa Meditation Center Georgia. She lives with her husband, also a CNN journalist, and their cat, in the charming town of Norcross, Georgia. She is also the step-mom to two amazing young men who provide plenty of inspiration for her stories. You can visit her online at mayracuevas.com.

The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be
Tumblr media
Chapter Three
I had no clue what to do. Do I run or wait til he gets here? For a brief moment I wanted to pull out the gun that I found, and shoot the walkers running behind Noel-before succumbing to the realization that the pistol is still laying in the green backpack.
-Son of a bitch,-I cursed under my breath.
Slowly, I started panicking. I didn’t know what to do; I didn’t know how to help him. He'd saved my life on that street back in Atlanta-without his instructions, God knows I would've been one of the walking corpses by now. I wanted to help him, I truly did. But I froze in one place, losing the feeling in my arms and legs.
-Start the car!- Noel yelled, still running.
I snapped out of it and ran to the drivers side of the van. I jumped in the car and tried to get it to start.
-Please, not now, - I pleaded, while the car refused to turn on.
I kept turning and turning the key and the truck kept growling, without actually starting. I wanted to scream and keep hitting the steering wheel, but I had to keep it together and focus, because Lord knows our life depends on it.
Soon, Noel jumped inside the car, slamming the car door closed.
-Why the hell did you not start the car yet?! - He yelled at me.
-I’m trying!- I screamed back.
-Try harder!
-Stop yelling!
-You stop yelling!
Noel pulled out his pistol out of his belt. Up until now he was the only one with a gun, now another one was laying in the back of the van.
-I’ll give you more time. For the love of everything that’s holy, hurry up, because I only have five shots, - he said, before getting out of the car to shot the incoming walkers.
I heard a body hit the ground.
Four shots left.
Three.
Two.
One.
-YES!
The van had finally started and I almost cried out of joy.
-Come on! - I screamed to the shooter outside.
He opened the car door and hurriedly got in, breathing heavily as he closed the door. He managed to get his backpack off and threw it in the back, before leaning back in the seat, and finally letting himself breathe. I'd stepped on the gas, and we quickly drove out of that God damned town and away from that herd of walkers. I kept checking in the rearview mirror, watching the herd get smaller and smaller by the second. They tried to keep up, but a car was faster than they were. When the walkers had completely disappeared from my view, I let myself relax a little. We were out of deaths reach, at least for now. My heart was still racing like crazy, my lips were as dry as the desert and I held the wheel so tightly that my knuckles went white.
-Son of a fucking bitch, - Noel cursed as he pressed his bleeding arm tightly.
-God...-I said as I glanced his way. -Did you...?
-No. I cut myself.
-Is it deep?
-I didn’t check. I was a little occupied, - he gave me a dirty look.
-How did this even happen?
-I was walking, fell, and cut.
-Very descriptive, - I said sarcastically.
-Jesus Christ, can you just shut up? he muttered angrily.
My lips formed a straight line. For a second I got mad at him, before acknowledging that he was in pain. I know first hand that people in pain tend to say many nasty things just so the pain would pass. I looked at him once more and understood that most likely we’ll need to stitch up the wound. I stopped the car at the side of the road.
-Why did you stop?
-You’re bleeding... We need to patch it up, - I gently said as I took off my seatbelt.
-I’m fine, - he muttered.
-You’re sleeve is soaked blood.
-I’ve been worse.
The farther we go, the more I think you were a serial killer.
-Hate to disappoint you, but I wasn’t.
I climbed over the seats to the very back, where the bag with my personal belongings was. From the very bottom of it, I took out a soft and clean towel and brought it back to Noel.
-Take off your shirt, -I ordered.
He teasingly raised his eyebrows.
We need to patch up the wound, God, - I blushed.
He carefully, but quickly, took off his sweater and rolled his t-shirt’s sleeve up. The wound looked pretty nasty, but I’ve seen far worse. I gently pressed the towel to the cut to stop the bleeding.
-Keep it pressed tightly, I need to see if we have anything to disinfect the wound with.
Noel did as I said - pressed it to his wound and sat in place gritting his teeth. I searched though the stuff he had found, and prayed that he'd found something useful for this situation. I unloaded almost all of his backpack, my hands still shaking a bit, but my breathing was now even. In this brief second, I felt like I was back home, back in my old life - riding in the back of the ambulance, saving lives and taking care of people. No matter how much it hurt, there was no sight of that life left now; there was no one in need of saving apart from myself.
-Fudge balls, - I kept muttering.
We had nothing to disinfect his wound with. Time to get creative, I remembered the vodka bottle I had found earlier, I fished it out of the green backpack and went back to Noel.
-We have alcohol, which we are gonna use to clean the cut.
-Give me that, I’ll do it myself, - he extended his hurt arm towards the bottle.
-No, - I turned it away.
-I’ve done this before. Well-I needed to do that before.
-Unless you were a doctor, nurse or paramedic, I doubt you know how to do it professionally.
-And you do?
-I’m a paramedic, I think I can handle it.
He got quietly and carefully pulled his arm, the one holding the towel in place, away. I took his arm and examined the cut. The cut was on the upper arm, but only slightly lower than the shoulder-however, it was too bloody to tell if it was deep. I gently gripped his arm and examined once more, only to come up with the same conclusion. I took the vodka bottle in one hand and opened the screw, then I took the rag and held it in my other arm
-I would advise to hold onto something, - I warned him before pouring the liquid.
He had no time to react before I turned the vodka bottle sideways and poured its continents directly on the cut. At the speed of lightning, Noel grabbed onto the car door and clenched his teeth together. Red liquid poured on the car seat as I tried my best to clean around the wound. Then, I tried my hardest to clean the wound itself.
-Okay...okay...it’s done.
Noel let go of the car door and unclenched his teeth.
-Holy shit, -he said breathlessly.
I took a look at the now clean wound. The cut was deep, and needed stitches to properly heal. Noel got lucky, because I had found a medical thread with a needle. I brought my finding out of the back of the van, and handed him the half-full vodka bottle.
-Why?- he glanced at me.
-It’s too deep, needs to be sutured, - I showed him my tools.
-I’m not an expert, but I think this'll hurt much more.
-Try not to move and grab onto the car door again.
I took a deep breath and calmed myself down. I couldn’t be nervous, because then I'd make mistakes-and besides, I’ve done this before-but back then I had anesthetics and walking corpses didn’t try to eat us. I put the thread in the needle, grasped his arm with my left hand and punctured one of the sides of his wound.
-Holy son of a motherfucking bitch! - Noel yelled out and grabbed onto the handle with such force his knuckles turned white. -This is much worse than I remember!
-Wait... You’ve done this before?!
He didn’t answer me. I pierced the thread though the wound and I punctured the other side. Out of instinct, he hit the car's panel with his palm, and I jumped up a little from the sound. The half-full bottle was still resting on my lap, so he grabbed the bottle, unscrewed it and took a large gulp of it.
-It’s not working as fast as I would like it.
I looked at him apologetically, but continued my work. He took another swing of the drink and tried do swallow as much as he could. I could see, he didn’t like it, but the pain was a lot to handle, to not try to ease it even a little. For a second it looked like he would shatter the glass bottle in his hands.
-Almost done.
-I’m not going anywhere, -he remarked.
This time I stabbed without mercy.
-Holy-! You did this one on purpose, - he furrowed his eyebrows.
I smirked and for a moment he did too. Sadly, the last puncture had to be done and his face twisted in pain once more. Once I was finally done, I took a role of bandage and bandaged his now stitched up wound.
-It’s done, completely now.
He twisted the cap of the bottle closed and put the vodka on the floor.
-So...you’re a paramedic.
I nodded my head and put everything away. We’d never know which one of us would need it next. The past couple of months we'd walked on eggshells, going to sleep not knowing if we’ll ever wake up. Danger and death were around every corner, and it was a miracle we'd made it this long without getting hurt.
-Let me through, - he asked as he turned to me.
I scooted to the drivers seat again. Noel managed, with great difficulty, to climb over the seats to the back. He was significantly taller than me, my head only reaching his chest, and bigger than me too. He kneeled next to his bag and pulled out a clean t-shirt and a long-sleeved black hoodie. Slowly took off his bloody t-shirt, not wanting to accidentally hit his wound. I cursed the hormones in my head - I was staring at his muscular back like a creep- and I could feel my cheeks burning up. In all honesty, I wanted to punch myself in the face. But then I noticed a pretty big scar on the left side of his back, just a little above his waist, about where the left kidney is located.
-Caroline,- it was one of those rare occasions, when he addressed me by my name.
-Huh?- I tried to act normal.
-Here, - out of his backpack, he pulled out a grey jacket, by the looks of it, it was the fall type. -I found it in the school.
I looked at him confused.
-I searched the school in town and conveniently, the herd was there.
-I dont know whether I should hit you or call you an idiot.
-I think a 'thank you' would be enough.
I smiled gently.
-Thank you, -I said, taking the jacket out of his hands.
For a moment we stared at each other in silence, not knowing what else to say.
-Uh...Could you open the back? I doubt I’d be able to squeeze myself to the front though the seats.
I left the vehicle and jogged to the back of the van, then I opened the door, letting Noel out. After he was out he headed to the passenger side of the car and I took the driver's role again.
-I think we should drive even further away from the town, before we stop for the night, - he suggested.
-Agreed. I want to put as much distance between us and that herd as possible.
We rode in silence, both lost in out thoughts. It got dark soon-winter was coming, and fall was right at our doorsteps, so the days were getting shorter and the nights longer.
-We’ll need to stop in another town soon, we’re running low on gas. Besides, fall is approaching, we need warmer clothes. -Noel spoke after a while.
-We can try stopping at the highway, there’s lots of abandoned cars there. We could suck out the gas out the cars and scavenge for supplies.- I suggested.
-It’s a graveyard.
-Still...
-It’s too close to the city. You and I know that cities have a shit load of walkers. What if a herd comes?
I stayed quiet. I most certainly didn’t want to encounter another herd. We got off fairly easily this time, but the next time we might not be so lucky.
-Does it hurt a lot? - I tried changing the subject.
-No.
-And here I thought you’d speak more than two sentences a day.
-Not a talker.
-I came to this conclusion right at the start.
-But here you are, still talking non-stop.
-You didn’t have any friends, did you? How sad.
-How original, Caroline. Let me clap for you.
-You probably were a mama’s boy too.
-My mom died ten years ago.
That made me instantly shut up. I glanced at Noel. He was just as calm as he was before our little banter/argument, he showed no emotion whatsoever.
I-I-I’m really sorry... I didn’t want to - I stuttered.
-It’s fine.
-Really I-
-I just said it’s fine. I’m not sixteen anymore, that was a long time ago.
So Noel is twenty six now. It seemed that I was a couple of years younger than him.
-You said that with no emotion.
-Really? It seems I've numbbed myself to it, - he shrugged his shoulders.
-Oh God... Were you really not a serial killer? -I tried lightening the mood.
-I’m sure to someone I was...
-What-?-
-Not today.
We became lost in silence again. After a few more minutes of driving, I stopped the car. This would be where we'd be sleeping tonight, on the side of the road.
-I think we’re far enough from the herd-besides, we have to save gas.
Noel nodded and leaned back in his seat, relaxing a bit.
-Today’s my shift. Why don’t you go lay down in the back?- I suggested.
-I’m not sleepy, - he responded. -If you want you can go lay down instead, I’ll keep watch.
-I’m not sleepy either.
Silence again. I was so curious to know who exactly Noel was before the world went to shit. But from the months I’ve known Noel, I knew that I wouldn't get anything out of him if he doesn’t want to tell. My head was buzzing with questions: what did he work as before, how did his mother die, what’s his last name for crying out loud?! Sadly, I wouldn’t get the answers unless he decided to tell me.
-I worked in Atlanta...- I started.
He opened his eyes and looked at me.
-I opened my mouth for nothing. You probably don’t want to hear it.
-I’m listening, aren’t I ?
-I’m from Atlanta. I was born there, I finished school there, then university, got a job there. I finished paramedic courses in university, because I’ve always liked helping others.
-Is that why you stayed in Atlanta for the first weeks?
-Maybe....Maybe I just clinged to the idea that all wasn’t lost.
-Were you in the hospital when shit hit the fan?
I nodded. Seeing this, he looked at the distance and got lost in thought.
-You know, everyone thought this happened suddenly, but it went on for a while-until it got so bad that no one could control it. Believe me, you wouldn’t want to see what was going on in the hospitals, - I shook my head.
It hurt to remember, but I wanted to say this out loud, to finally get it off my conscious.
At first we responded to calls, but then there were so many callsiit was impossible to respond to them. People flooded into the hospital, and we started running short on doctors-people must have felt that the end was near and wanted to be with their families. I don’t blame them, I wanted to home to Glenn, too-but the paramedics were called in to work in the hospital itself. I couldn’t just leave people behind, so I was one of the few that stayed until the end....We knew there was no cure, no way we could fix this, or heal them, and that’s why we dosed them with sleeping-drought or morphine-and when they fell asleep we....God, they didn’t even give us normal guns, just those things-those contraptions- that they use to kill bulls in slaughterhouses...- my voice started cracking
- In the end, we were running low on morphine and medicine overall, and there were no more civilians left in Atlanta anymore. We couldn’t even get rid of the bodies properly, the whole internal diseases division was flooded with walkers. Soldiers barricaded it and kept it shut-when a person died, we didn’t wait til they turned, we took them there...and we... we fed them to those walking corpses.
I took a deep breath, it hurt, it really hurt-but I felt a little better. Noel listened to every word, not saying a thing.
-The last day, the soldiers didn’t let us leave the director's office without any explanation. There was only five of us left: me, two nurses, one gynecologist and the director: some left to see their families, some got infected and died, and some just couldn’t take what the world was becoming and ended it for themselves. One of the softer soldiers told the director that the hospital was actually going to get bombed, that’s why they didn’t let us leave. The director didn't waste a second after learning this, and lead us out though the old, now-unusable doors in his office. We got in an ambulance and drove the hell out of there. It wasn’t any better in the streets; they were everywhere. We separated, each going our own way. I have no clue if they're alive or not. I tried to find Glenn, but he was gone; he'd left the city.
It seemed like a rock was lifted off my chest. I couldn’t and I didn’t want to keep it inside anymore. I remembered this everyday and it hurt so much. I just wanted someone else to know, to understand. Noel stayed silent for a couple of more seconds, piecing everything together in his mind.
-How did you know he left the city and didn’t die? - He finally asked.
-I was in our apartment. He took all the crucial items with him : clothes, food, water, but he also took all the photos of me, his sisters and all of us together. He’s alive, I just know it.
-He’s your boyfriend?
-Gross! No! He’s my brother-well-not exactly, we’re not actually brother and sister. Frankly, we aren’t related at all. We just hold each other as brother and sister.
-So that’s why you stayed in Atlanta. To find him.
-Yeah....
I lowered my head. Right now, my knees seemed so interesting. I thought about Glenn, about where he could be, and I prayed that he'd survived. Maybe I shouldn’t have poured my heart out just like that to Noel-he didn’t ask for it. After a few moments of silence, I felt a big warm palm on my shoulder. I raised my eyes. Noel’s hand was on my shoulder and when he saw me looking, he half smiled. I understood he didn’t really know how to express his feelings very well, but this gesture, and the jacket, meant that he cared about me, at least a little. For a few minutes we looked at each other wordlessly, and my mind went blank; I stopped thinking altogether. He raised his palm from my shoulder and placed it on my cheek. I didn’t even realize when he'd started leaning towards me, as I was leaning towards him. One second our lips were millimeters apart and the next they were touching. Somewhere deep inside my mind I knew I was going to regret this, but for now, I didn’t care.

Matt’s Take
The Countdown Begins
The month of April is nearly here and baseball season will soon be in full swing. The Cincinnati Reds take on the Atlanta Braves for the first game of the season on April 7, 2022. As the season is quickly approaching, there are still many unanswered questions for this Reds roster. Spring Training has given some hope to the 2022 season, but fans are still looking for answers on the starting rotation, plans for Lodolo and Greene, and who will be starting on Opening Day. I think the mysteries of this season will keep the season interesting and many of us are excited to see this young core establish themselves as the new faces of Cincinnati baseball.
Big Shoes to Fill
In a late offseason move, the Reds have decided to become small spenders and sign Tommy Pham to fill the needed gap in left field. Pham has played 8 years in the majors and most recently played for the Padres. Last season, Pham batted .229 and knocked 15 homers. Great American Ball Park should help improve some of Pham’s stats this season, but he certainly has big shoes to fill when comparing him to the top ranked left fielder in baseball for 2022, former Red Jesse Winker (it still pains me to say former).
Mystery Rotation
The Cincinnati starting rotation is still a mystery and we are nearly just a week away from Reds baseball. With the injury and delay to Castillo and Minor’s 2022 campaigns, Tyler Mahle has been announced as the Reds Opening Day starter. Tyler Mahle was 13-6 last season and managed to have a 3.75 ERA in one of the most batter-friendly ballparks in all of baseball. Outside of Mahle and Castillo, I certainly believe Gutierrez will find himself back in the starting rotation. I believe Santillan will be used as both a starter and relief pitcher, but will mainly do most of his work out of the bullpen. With that being said, that leaves 2 spots open if Bell goes with a 5 pitcher rotation (until Minor is healthy). It is time for Cincinnati to finally bring up Lodolo and Greene and give the young pitchers what they deserve by allowing them to show what they have at the big league level in a year that many fans and experts don’t expect an above-average season from the Reds.
Greene Gas
Hunter Greene managed to show once again that he deserves his chance to play up this season. The 2nd overall pick in the 2017 MLB draft managed to have another scoreless outing and continued his impressive spring training campaign. This past Saturday, Hunter threw 33 pitches and over half of those pitches were 100 mph or faster. While throwing “gas” is what Hunter is known for, many of us are more impressed with his off-speed pitches, as he clearly has improved from last season.
Lineup Projection
While the Reds lineup will be changed based on the hot bat and right/left handers all season, I believe our Opening Day lineup will include: Pham LF, Senzel CF, Naquin RF, Votto 1B, India 2B, Farmer SS, Moustakas 3B, Mahle P, Stephenson C, and Max Schrock batting in the DH spot (How long will it take us getting used to the DH spot each week?). While I don’t expect a stellar season from the Reds, I definitely think we can compete with everyone in the NL Central. The Reds projected over/under is 74.5 games. Even in a year that Winker, Suarez, and many others are not in a Reds uniform, the Cincinnati optimism in my body still believes we win over 74 games. Everyone in this area knows the sound of the voice from the announcer at the Convocation Center during High School basketball stating the countdown of “2 minutes, 2 minutes left in the Convo.” Someone needs to hire that guy to give us a countdown to the greatest tradition in Cincinnati sports history….Opening Day!
