Always (supercorp)
Lena has nightmares every night and only Kara can keep them at bay.
or
Kara finds every excuse to spend the night in Lena's bed so that Lena can sleep.
a soft, fluffy and angsty supercorp fic.
Tumblr media
Lena lay in bed, her eyes heavy with exhaustion, but her mind stubbornly refusing to give in to sleep. Night after night, the same haunting nightmares tormented her, a relentless loop of horror that had become all too familiar. It had been a month since that dreadful day when Lex had blown up a building and then turned his madness towards her.
The scar on her stomach throbbed, a constant physical reminder of that traumatic encounter. She traced her fingers over the faint line, a painful memory etched into her skin. Closing her eyes, she could vividly recall that nightmarish moment. The memory played out like a horrifying movie reel in her mind.
Lex, his face contorted with manic rage, covered in sweat and soot from the destruction he had wrought. His eyes glinted with a dangerous intensity as he approached her, a knife concealed up his sleeve.
"This is your last chance to join me, sister," his voice dripped with a chilling mix of desperation and malice.
Lena's response had been firm and resolute, her voice unwavering, "Never."
Lex lunged at her, the knife flashing in the dim light. The searing pain as the blade sliced through her flesh, the shock and disbelief that followed, and then a wave of darkness that enveloped her as her vision blurred and her body gave way.
Just as the darkness threatened to consume her completely, a distant voice penetrated the void. Kara's voice, a desperate scream that pierced through the fog of unconsciousness. But Lena was already slipping away, unable to fight against the pull of oblivion.
Back in the present, Lena's body finally succumbed to its overwhelming fatigue, her eyelids drooping as her thoughts continued to race. She fought against the encroaching sleep, desperately clinging to consciousness. But the battle was a losing one, and eventually, her mind gave in.
The nightmares returned with a vengeance, a macabre tapestry of fear and torment that painted her subconscious in vivid shades of terror. The sound of explosions echoed in her ears, and the memory of Lex's crazed expression haunted her once more. Lena thrashed in her sleep, trapped in a nightmarish cycle that seemed impossible to escape.
As the nightmares intensified, Lena's eyes snapped open, her body drenched in sweat, heart racing. She was back in her room, the dim light casting eerie shadows on the walls. Gasping for air, Lena realized that the room felt suffocating, the weight of her memories and fears pressing down on her. She sat up, her breathing ragged, and rubbed her temples as she tried to shake off the residual terror. She knew she couldn't go on like this, trapped in a cycle of sleepless nights and haunting dreams. But finding a way out seemed impossible, her trauma a prison from which there was no escape.
Exhausted and defeated, Lena lay back down, her eyes staring blankly at the ceiling. She longed for respite, for a moment of peace, but she knew that the night was far from over, and the nightmares would likely return once more. With a heavy sigh, she braced herself for another sleepless night.
The following night, Lena slid into bed and found herself staring at the ceiling, her heart racing, her breath uneven. She couldn't bear the thought of closing her eyes, of succumbing once more to the terrors that awaited her in the realm of dreams.
With a sigh, she reached over to turn off her lamp, plunging her room into darkness. But just as she settled back against her pillows, a soft knock echoed through the room, startling her. Lena's heart skipped a beat, her body tensing as she cautiously got out of bed.
She padded across the room, her breath catching in her throat when she saw the familiar sight of Kara standing on the balcony, clad in her Supergirl suit. The moonlight illuminated her tousled, windswept blonde hair, and the suit accented her lean physique and the well-defined muscles beneath the suit. Her blue eyes shimmered in the night, and her lips curled into a beautiful smile that made Lena's heart race.
"Kara, hi. What are you doing here?" Lena managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kara's smile widened, her eyes glinting with a playful sparkle. "Hey, Lena. I was on patrol nearby and I'm absolutely exhausted. Do you mind if I crash here?"
Lena's mind was a whirlwind of emotions, but all she could muster was a simple, "No, not at all."
Lena let Kara into her penthouse. Kara often crashed at Lena's after game nights or movie nights but this felt different somehow.
Lena handed Kara a pair of her sweats and a t-shirt, their fingers briefly grazing against each other, sending a shiver of electricity through Lena's veins.
"Thanks, Lena," Kara said appreciatively before disappearing into the bathroom to change. Lena watched the closed door, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts. She took a seat on the edge of her bed, the anticipation building as she waited for Kara to emerge.
The moments ticked by, each second feeling like an eternity as Lena's heart raced. The quiet rustling of fabric signaled Kara's return, and Lena's breath caught as she looked up to see Kara stepping out of the bathroom, dressed in Lena's clothes. The clothes were slightly short on Kara, exposing a tantalizing glimpse of her toned abs. Lena's throat went dry, and she swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest, her fingers itching to trace the path of those well-defined muscles..
She had always known that her feelings for Kara ran deeper than the love one felt for a friend, a truth she had carefully kept hidden behind carefully constructed walls of friendship, but in moments like this, she struggled to keep her feelings at bay.
Normally, Kara would retire to one of the guest rooms, and Lena had assumed tonight would be no different. But to Lena's surprise, Kara moved with graceful purpose, sliding into Lena's bed as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Despite the many nights they had spent under the same roof, Kara had never slept in Lena's bed. This was something Lena had never even dared to imagine, even in her wildest dreams.
With cautious steps, Lena slipped under the covers, settling beside Kara. The bed seemed impossibly small, the space between them charged with an electric tension. Kara turned onto her side, facing Lena, and Lena mirrored her position, their gazes locked.
"Goodnight, Lena," Kara whispered, her breath ghosting over Lena's lips before she closed her eyes.
"Goodnight, Kara."
Lena found herself acutely aware of Kara's presence beside her. With her eyes closed, she tried to find a sense of calm, allowing the rhythm of Kara's breath to guide her.
As time passed, Lena felt herself gradually relaxing, the softness of the moment easing the usual restlessness that plagued her nights. The fear of nightmares still lingered, but it felt distant.
She felt herself surrendering to sleep. The sound of Kara's steady breathing became comforting.
In the quiet darkness of the room, Lena's consciousness slipped away, her mind finally finding a respite from the torment of her past. As sleep claimed her, the usual nightmares were conspicuously absent.
--
The soft, warm rays of morning light gently filtered through the curtains, casting a serene glow over the room. Lena stirred, gradually awakening from the depths of slumber, her senses slowly coming to life. The sensation that enveloped her was one of warmth and security, a comfort she hadn't experienced in a long time.
She realised that Kara's arms were tightly wrapped around her and her body was pressed against Lena's back, their forms fitting together as if they were two pieces of a puzzle perfectly aligned.
Lena's heart danced within her chest as she felt Kara's breath ghosting against the back of her neck, a sensation that sent shivers of delight down her spine. The intimacy of the moment was intoxicating and left her heart racing dangerously.
Kara stirred beside her, her movements slow and gentle. Lena could hear a soft, almost inaudible mumble from Kara, the sound of her voice tugging at Lena's heartstrings. "Oh, sorry," Kara's voice was a gentle whisper.
Lena felt a twinge of disappointment as Kara began to extricate herself from their embrace.
As Lena turned to look at Kara, her eyes were met with a sleepy smile that seemed to illuminate the entire room. Lena's heart skipped a beat as she took in the sight of Kara's tousled hair and the soft lines of her face.
"Morning," Kara's voice was soft and sleepy.
Lena's fingers itched to reach out, to brush away the hair that had fallen across Kara's forehead, to trace the delicate curve of her cheek. But a sense of shyness held her back, a lingering hesitation that reminded her of the boundaries Lena had always maintained.
--
Over the course of the next two weeks, Lena's life took an unexpected turn. To her immense surprise and relief, Kara seemed to find a reason, however small, to spend every single night in Lena's bed. It was a pattern that quickly became a comforting routine. Each evening, as the world outside dipped into the embrace of night, Kara would slip into Lena's bed, a shield against the haunting nightmares that had held Lena captive for far too long.
Lena's waking moments became increasingly filled with the sense of Kara's proximity. She would wake up each morning wrapped in Kara's strong arms, the gentle rise and fall of her chest against Lena's back serving as a soothing reassurance. The nightmares, which had once been an unrelenting torment, remained at bay, their usual grip loosening with every passing night.
Lena reveled in the comfort of Kara's embrace and her eyes often lingered on Kara's serene features as they lay tangled together under the covers. Yet, amidst the warmth of Kara's presence, Lena was fighting her feelings.
Lena's feelings for Kara deepened with every night they spent together, the lines between friendship and something more becoming more blurred each night. She found herself captivated by Kara's laughter, drawn to the way her eyes sparkled when she shared stories of her day, enchanted by her bashful grace.
But Lena couldn't ignore the growing questions that tugged at her thoughts. Why was Kara staying over so often? The skepticism that had once colored her perception of others now cast a shadow over her moments of happiness. Lena's heart raced, her mind a whirlwind of uncertainty as she tried to make sense of the situation.
One evening, as they sat together on Lena's couch, wrapped in a blanket and sipping tea, Lena's resolve solidified. The time had come to breach the subject that had been gnawing at her. She looked at Kara, her gaze a mixture of curiosity and concern. "Kara, is everything okay?"
Kara turned her head to meet Lena's eyes, her expression serene yet guarded. "Mm, yes, why?"
Lena's lips twitched into a half-smile, the tension in the room palpable. "You've spent the last fourteen nights here. Is there something going on? Not that I don't love having you stay over—I really do. But if you're having problems with your apartment or something, I can help."
Kara's blue eyes flickered, her gaze momentarily shifting before she leaned in closer to Lena. Her fingers, warm and tender, slipped beneath Lena's shirt, tracing a path over the jagged scar on Lena's abdomen. Lena's breath hitched as Kara's touch sent shivers of sensation through her.
"You know every night on patrol, I fly past your penthouse to check on you? Just to listen to your heartbeat and make sure you're okay." Kara's voice held a mix of vulnerability and sincerity, her fingertips mapping the contours of Lena's scar as if tracing a roadmap of the past. "Especially since everything with Lex, since he hurt you. I heard your nightmares every night, Lena, and it pained me to see you so broken. And when I stayed over that first night, I noticed that the nightmares didn't come. So I thought maybe if I stayed over, you could sleep better."
Lena's eyes glistened with unshed tears as Kara's words sank in, the depth of Kara's care astounding to her. She felt a lump forming in her throat.
"Sorry," Kara continued, "I know I should have told you, but I know you would think that I was inconveniencing myself or something. But I'm not. I want you to be okay, Lena, and I'll do anything for you. If I could undo what happened, I would. But I can't, so this is something I can do for you."
Lena was speechless. Tears pricked at the corners of Lena's eyes as Kara's words washed over her, a wave of emotions crashing against the walls she had carefully constructed around her heart. Kara's selflessness had left her utterly stunned, and Lena realized that no one had ever cared for her so deeply, so unconditionally before. She couldn't hold back the tears that spilled from her eyes, the floodgates of her emotions breaking open.
Kara. Sweet Kara. Always there for Lena, always looking out for her. Lena had never felt such profound love before.
Moved beyond words, Lena leaned forward, her heart pounding against her chest. Her hand found Kara's, their fingers intertwining. Kara's gaze on her held her captive.
The floodgates of vulnerability opened, and before she could think, before she could second-guess herself, she acted on the feelings she had been hiding for so long.
Lena leaned forward, her heart pounding in her chest as she pressed her lips against Kara's. The kiss was a confession, an unspoken declaration of every feeling she had hidden behind those walls for so long.
Kara froze for a second and Lena's heart stopped, but just as quickly, her lips began moving against Lena's- a soft, desperate kiss. There was a vulnerability in the way Kara kissed her back, a raw honesty that stripped away any doubts Lena may have had. Her heart felt like it was going to explode. Kara was kissing her back and in that moment, nothing else mattered.
Time seemed to stand still as their lips moved against each other. Lena's fingers trembled as they found their way to Kara's cheek, her touch gentle and filled with wonder. The taste of Kara's lips was a revelation.
As the kiss finally drew to a close, Lena pulled back slightly, her eyes fluttering open to meet Kara's gaze.
"Thank you," she whispered, “for being here.”
And Kara smiled that blindingly beautiful smile, and whispered, "Always" before crashing her lips against Lena's once more.

Lena was in the dark in more ways than one.
The lights in her penthouse were all dark save one, a night light in her en suite to ensure that she didn’t take a fall if she got up. Swirling the edge of a migraine, she’s grown tired of an again-delayed product launch and the hoary halls of power and their patriarchs. Few things frustrated her more than the spiteful condescension of old men clinging to a world with all the success of a man trying to gather all the sand in a desert through chapped fingers.
Few things annoyed her more.
One of those things, she could give no name. Since Lena had realized Kara’s identity, things had been tense between them. Mostly in a pleasant way; they had been feeling out this new normal, Kara tentatively broaching this or that topic to add to brunch chats and lunchtime gossip.
“Oh,” she’d say, “that last alien hit pretty hard,” as if being knocked clean through a fertilizer plant by a blow to the head were part of her commute.
To Lena it was all new, but there was something else with it. Something neither of them dared to name, some friable, delicate new shape that they could only feel by its edges. It began with Kara bombarding Lena with friendship. Fresh breakfasts hand-delivered at hypersonic speeds. Daily lunches. For the last month, Kara had spent every weekend at Lena’s, or vice versa.
Lena’s penthouse had a guest bedroom. Kara’s place had a bed and a sofa. Comfy, but it was no bed. That was how the dance began. The first steps were hesitant, the dancers circling each other without breaking the barrier. A token argument about who gets the bed, only for them both to share it. And once they’d shared it at Kara’s place, it made no sense for Lena to confine a living space heater to the guest room.
They didn’t discuss, or analyze, or talk it out. No boundaries were ever set, and so the dance continued. What started as two people curled up in a big king bed on opposite sides became the pair of them entangling during the night, then skipping the pretext and curling up with each other before the lights went out.
It was driving Lena insane. Kara never pushed, not really, and yet it just seemed to happen. It was as if her best friend was daring her to take the initiative. The morning when Lena awoke to find Kara’s arm protectively curled about her waist, her thumb hooked on the waistband of Lena’s lounge pants, she’d almost turned over and said something.
The excuse she made was that Kara needed her sleep after the pummeling she’d taken that afternoon. That Lena enjoyed how Kara grazed the pad of her thumb over Lena’s hip bone was incidental.
Lying in the dark, Lena knew that Kara had arrived by the sound of the balcony door opening and didn’t bother to call out to her. Still dressed in her suit, Kara peeked into the bedroom, her movements tentative, somehow almost birdlike.
She came back a moment later with a cool, damp cloth for Lena’s forehead and a few murmured questions, before excusing herself.
“Darling, you can stay,” Lena sighed. “I want you to.”
“Okay,” Kara whispered back, lightly seeping stray curls from Lena’s eyes. “I need to change. No peeking.”
And why would you be worried I’ll peek? Lena thought. A platonic Best Friend isn’t going to peek. Best friends don’t do that, just like they don’t nuzzle into each other on the couch. If Lena were Kara’s best friend, then Lena wouldn’t be looking so much, so openly. Admiring Kara’s smile and her biceps and the way her abdominal muscles strained those button-downs.
She wouldn’t be thinking so much about the touches, the way she’d sat in Kara’s lap for hours at a time or how Kara had carried her to bed or how Supergirl had lingered to cradle her post-rescue, well past the point of safety.
Lena wasn’t aware she was peeking until she’s already started. Kara’s suit had taken care of itself; it was her work clothes she needed to discard. When Lena turned over, there was the broad expanse of Kara’s beautifully muscled back, flexing deliciously as she pulled on a pair of pajama bottoms.
Because Kara kept multiple sets of PJs at Lena’s place.
In Lena’s bedroom.
Because this wasn’t the first time this had happened.
Lena turned back, knowing with certainty that Kara knew. She must have heard the creaking of the mattress and the soft whisper of skin on silk sheets and the rapidity if Lena’s traitorous heart.
When Kara climbed in with Lena, the world shrank around the pair of them. Kara swept immediately to the boundary tonight, gathering Lena in her arms, hands finding spots just on this side of chaste, and their bodies molded together.
Lena was finally able to get some sleep.
When she awoke, later, Kara stirred with her.
“Zhao,” Kara muttered.
Lena froze, blinking in the dark. That wasn’t a nonsense word; it was Kryptonian.
“Come back. Zhao,” Kara muttered, as Lena stirred. She didn’t seem to be properly waking.
A nickname?
Lena couldn’t remember when she’d started calling Kara Darling, though she increasingly wished she had.
Dear diary, it was on this day at this date that I admitted my feelings to myself before wrapping them in cardboard and then in concrete and then in steel before shoving them somewhere deep down.
Kara, for her part, had tried a few pet names but most were one offs, never quite fitting. She’d even called Lena “buddy” once before Lena had cut that shit off with an arched brow.
Lena stilled. She could deny Kara nothing, and so drifted off to sleep.
By some quirk of fate, they woke almost at the same time. Lena was still groggy and bleary-eyed when Kara’s sky-blues flitted open, bringing more light than the sun itself. She shifted in the bed without letting Lena go and began to murmur something in Kryptonian, cutting herself off as that last sharp, buzzing word tumbled from her lips.
The only world froze. Kara stared at Lena with wide eyes, and the sudden tension between them made both women go rigid, neither willing to move, to break it.
“You called me that in your sleep,” Lena finally whispered. “Zhao. What does it mean?”
Kara was unusually pale.
“Oh, it’s sort of a term of endearment in Kryptonian. It means, um, ah…”
Lena sighed, cracking a soft smile. “Kara, I’m not fluent by any measure, but I know enough Kryptonian to know what Zhao means.”
“Oh,” Kara whispered, barely more than a short and sharp exhale.
“Even if I didn’t,” Lena whispered, locking eyes with her. “Your hand is literally on my ass right now.”
“Oh. Um. Golly. I’m sorry, I…”
Kara started to pull back. Lena gently took hold of Kara’s wrist and held her hand there. Her heart fluttered not only at the strength in Kara’s forearm but how those steel cable muscles went slack beneath her touch.
Lena swiveled her hips.
“I don’t know how to do this,” Kara whispered.
“Oh, trust me, I’ve got that covered,” said Lena.
Kara shivered. “No, I mean… I don’t know what to…” She swallowed hard, her throat bobbing.
Lena pressed in closer, until the space between them was more a theoretical concept than an actuality.
“Just say what you want to say.”
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
Lena snorted a laugh, briefly ashamed at her inner dork, and afraid that Kara would take offense.
“Kara, you’ve been sleeping over every weekend with your hand in my pants for months. Yes, I will be your girlfriend.”
Kara grinned, starting to sit up.
“Come on, zhao,” said Kara.

I love your pinned ficlet because Lena is typically such a hyper-focused workaholic it really sells how catastrophically horny she must be to daydream at such length while at work. Hope Kara helps release her from her horny prison!
'artificial intelligence' is the only subject any reporter has asked her about for the better part of the last twelve months. generative AI, to be specific. it's tiresome. luthorcorp has been using AI, or applied statistics as lena would rather refer to it, for the last decade. incredibly expensive to develop in house and rife with issues ranging from proprietary data misuse to perpetuating biases to data hallucination to ethical misconduct, it's never been an easy subject to broach. and it's never been a hotter topic. it's a bit of a minefield for her to speak on, especially on how luthorcorp uses it, and she's loathe to engage publicly on the topic if she doesn't have to.
nonetheless. she's bored. she's passively watching morgan edge have a histrionic episode in one of their shared board meetings. she's idly working on her tech pad, stencil moving bits of data around as she plays with a chat bot she's been training for the last week. it's a chat bot specifically trained on transcripts of supergirl's interviews. hundreds of them. it's a chat bot that actually mimics supergirl. pretends to be her.
no reason why, really. just a bit of fun in her downtime.
maybe she'd been musing about what all she could get supergirl to say to her. maybe she'd wondered how supergirl might react in specific instances. specific to lena instances.
morgan shouts the word 'FUCK' across the conference bridge, and lena continues to try different text inputs.
lena: Supergirl, if I were to wear a deep cut dress, would you prefer that over a pant suit?
Supergirl.AI: Oh, golly, Ms. Luthor. That's hard to say.
typical. so deflecting.
lena: What color do you think I look best in?
Supergirl.AI: Uh, hm, let me think. Red?
ever bashful.
"Lena, don't you have something to say on this flagrant misapplication of our budget dollars?" Edge rings across her virtual meeting. "This is not what I signed on for."
"I'm sorry, Edge, you're cutting out, can you repeat that?"
edge turns a lovely shade of carmine. speaking of.
lena: If I were to take you on a date, what kind of restaurant would you like to go to?
Supergirl.AI: Of course, I would love potstickers!
wait a minute.
oh. oh.
fuck.

a new kind of romance, pt 4
part 3 | zippers
🧁 | frosting
“Are you… baking?” Kara asked, nose sniffing toward the oven emitting scrumptious confetti-cake smells. She was interrupted only by the already-baked cupcakes sitting on the counter.
“Mhm,” Lena replied, wiping her fingers clean of powdered sugar. “No eating!”
“Wh-what?” Kara scowled, pulling away just in time to avoid a swat. “Why not?”
“They’re for Esme’s bake sale.”
“I don’t remember this being part of ‘godmother’ duties,” Kara pouted, collapsing onto a stool across from three dozen cooling cupcakes desperately wanting to be frosted, sprinkled, then inhaled by Kara Danvers, Girl of Steel and possessor of Bottomless Stomach.
“It’s not,” Lena laughed, “but Kelly called in a bind, and since I had the evening off-”
“To hang out with me,” Kara interrupted.
“-to hang out with you, yes, but I thought you could help me.”
“How?” Kara prodded, scanning the kitchen: the oven held four racks of baking tins, the dirty dishes were already churning away in the dishwasher, and there was a great, giant bowl of homemade buttercream sitting in front of Lena.
“Decorating,” Lena said cheerily. “But first, help me with this. It isn’t quite right; I think maybe too much lemon? Here:”
And then there was a finger.
A finger.
Extended.
Extended and dolloped with butter cream.
A butter-creamed finger hovering expectantly and Kara wasn’t sure if it was her heart stopping or the world halting on its axis. Because time definitely froze. The warm smile on Lena’s face, the dimples marking her cheeks, the bright spark in her eyes sat in the periphery of Kara’s eyes which were fixed and frantic and hungry, staring hesitantly - obsessively - at the perfectly extended digit.
“T-try-? It?”
“I need that discerning tongue of yours,” Lena said, and maybe if Kara wasn’t already struggling to overcome all of the thoughts flooding her brain, that comment might have sent her spiraling. Fortunately, that was already happening.
And maybe there was something mischievous glinting behind that sparkle in Lena’s eyes, but that was not something Kara had capacity to process because the finger was not moving.
And maybe subconsciously Kara licked her lips, but that was not something Kara had self-awareness for because the finger was not wavering.
And maybe that sent Lena’s eyebrow arching in a mix of curiosity and daring and her own unsated hunger, but that was not something Kara noticed because the finger was not backing down.
“No?” Lena asked, and her voice was low and caked in challenge. “Supergirl turning down a snack; I might have to-”
And whatever words Lena might have said were caught in a breathy gasp because Kara, automatic and unthinking, wrapped her lips around Lena’s outstretched finger and ran her tongue over the soft dollop of sugary goodness until nothing but the pad of Lena’s finger was left under it. And that’s when Kara registered the expression on Lena’s face and the dilated pupils that made her eyes glow dark and in stark contrast to the brightly lit kitchen.
And that was something Kara didn’t know what to do with. Because the tease didn’t feel so much like a tease anymore, and a line felt very close to being crossed and there certainly wasn’t a world where Lena Luthor would want Kara crossing that line because it wasn’t even a line Kara knew existed - even considered existed - until this moment and what even would it look like to cross that line? Soft and warm and heavenly and perfect and everything Lena Luthor already was but... more?
“Thoughts?”
None. How could Kara possibly have any thoughts when her mouth was still processing lines and the light, sweet, lemon-zesty flavors and textures and feeling of Lena’s finger and then - then - Lena’s question coming dry and throaty and nothing like her retreating, glistening wet finger?
“Uh.” Gerbils were more articulate. Anything was more articulate. But Kara didn’t have spare bandwidth to weigh in on that. Instead she braced herself against the countertop and breathed in through her nose, out through her mouth.
“Nothing?” Lena asked - teased.
“I-I just… I uhm…” Kara sputtered, her vision clouding and hands curling against the counter edge.
“Here, maybe you need another taste?”
And yea, Kara was absolutely going to be blamed for the giant crack that appeared in the countertop and blush furiously at the next game night and want to fly straight into the sun because “oh Rao.”

Dragon Ball Super Manga ch.97-99
Tumblr media
Cell Max is running wild, but don't worry, because Goten and Trunks are here to pad the story give Piccolo and Gohan a breather.
Tumblr media
To be fair, the boys do a little better once they turn Super Saiyan, which kind of begs the question of why they didn't just turn Super Saiyan from the start. This page's sole purpose is to have the Gammas notice their "resemblance" to Saiyaman X-1 and X-2. This would be annoying enough even if they did look alike, but they don't. Look at them! Trunks and Goten have tights and some sort of Stormtrooper midriff thing going on. The Gammas are wearing jodhpurs and bellhop jackets. And Goten and Trunks' color schemes are clearly reversed from one to the other. The Gammas match perfectly except for their red and blue capes.
The only real similarities here are the numbers on their costumes, and the fact that there are two of them. Oh, and Gamma 1 has a red cape, and Goten has a red cape. Eerie! What are the odds of two superheroes having red capes? You almost never see that. I mean, there's Superman, Thor, Great Saiyaman, Dr. Strange, Spawn, Great Saiyaman 2, the Scarlet Witch, Supergirl, Great Saiyaman 3, Power Girl, Steel, but other than those characters, I can't think of anyone else!
Tumblr media
Then they all pose together and attack Cell Max in concert. It looks impressive, but their quadruple-team fails to do any damage. The Gammas acknowledge that Cell Max is still getting used to moving around in his body, so he's not fighting as effectively as he will be later in the story. So that's why Goten and Trunks can do this well without actually hurting their opponent. And that's fair.
What doesn't make a lot of sense is the Gammas' role in this part of the battle. Of everyone involved in this battle, they alone understand the danger Cell Max poses to the world, because Dr. Hedo told them about Max's powers. That's why they went in first when Cell Max first emerged. They knew they had to shut him down as quickly as possible. And they're not rusty like Goten and Trunks, or unfamiliar with their bodies like Cell Max. If there's a window of opportunity here for Goten and Trunks to fight Cell Max without looking outclassed, then you'd think the Gammas would use this chance to target Max's head and finish him off.
Of course, they can't actually do that, since that's not what happened in the movie, but that's the problem I have with all of this. Toyotaro keeps shoehorning Goten and Trunks into this story, and their scenes tend to interfere with the plot instead of adding to it. The Gammas have a cool gimmick and aesthetic with the super hero thing. It works. They don't need two more characters aping that look right beside them. At best it's redundant, and at worst it just cramps their style. It'd be like if Frieza had a teen sidekick following him around repeating everything he says. It would kill his whole vibe.
Tumblr media
Okay, so once Goten and Trunks fuse into Gotenks, the battle plays out mostly like it did in the movie, but there's one part that got changed up and it caused some controversy in the fandom. Remember how Pan almost got killed, and Krillin called out to her and told her to fly, and then she managed to fly for the first time?
So in the manga, Pan has the same moment, except she doesn't take flight. Instead...
Tumblr media
In this version, Krillin just flies over and grabs her. And that makes sense. Why would he just assume she can fly on her own? Why not just zip over and get her? However, this kills the character arc Pan had in the movie. She started the film wishing she could do more advanced training, but Piccolo won't let her because she can't fly yet. Then in this scene, she does fly, and when the movie ends she shows Piccolo and he proudly agrees to start giving her the advanced lessons.
Fans didn't like this version, because Toyotaro appeared to be saying "no" to something the fans enjoyed in the movie. Krillin doesn't need a hero moment in this scene because he gets a couple of hero moments when he helps fight Cell Max. He saves 18 and distracts Cell Max with a solar flare. Krillin's fine. So it sure looks like Toyotaro just scrapped Pan's big moment for no discernible reason. This happened in Chapter 97.
Tumblr media
Hey, check out this cool shot of Orange Piccolo fighting Cell Max.
Tumblr media
Right, back to what I was saying.
So in Chapter 98, Toyotaro redeems himself by having Pan fly for the first time, just in a later part of the battle. When Big Orange Piccolo gives the last senzu bean to Gohan in the movie, Gohan just eats it and that's it. But in the manga, Cell Max attacks Piccolo and knocks it out of his hand. No one can catch it, until Pan goes after it and follows it over a ledge. Gohan's worried, but then it turns out she can fly now so she was never in danger, and she gets to help him this way.
Is it better than the movie? I can see a case for this version, but one thing that bugs me is that it seems a bit contrived for Pan to notice the senzu bean and be able to follow it through the air the way she did. I believe she could and would catch it for her dad. That's fine. But I'm not sure she would understand the need from where she was sitting in Bulma's aircraft.
For that matter, I don't know that it makes sense for Pan to understand what a senzu bean is, or why Gohan would need one so badly. Someone might have explained it to her at some point, but Pan's only three years old. I wouldn't expect her to know everything about everything.
Anyway, it goes to show how much can change from one chapter to another. People were mad about Chapter 97, but only because they didn't have 98 right there in front of them to show them it wasn't that big a deal. This is one major reason why I don't like to read the manga as it publishes.
Tumblr media
From here, well, I think I'm just down to cool shots of the fight with Cell Max.
Tumblr media
I don't think much is different here, but the art is cool, and this is one of my favorite parts of the movie.
Tumblr media
I think this is a manga-only bit. Cell Max works over Piccolo with ki blasts, and it looks like Piccolo blows up, which triggers Gohan's Beast form, but then later it turns out Gamma 1 was protecting Piccolo with his force field, which allowed him to withstand the blast.
Tumblr media
Also, when Cell Max tries to use his wings to escape the attack Gohan has planned, Toyotaro has Gamma 1, Krillin, and 18 cut off his wings. Not sure we needed this, but sure, it gives those characters one more chance to shine.
Tumblr media
And then Piccolo holds Cell Max down and pleads with Gohan to take the shot, and that's the end of chapter 99.
And that gets me all caught up. Now I just have to wait for Chapter 100, which is supposed to drop on December 20. Hopefully, it'll wrap up the Super Hero adaptation, but I wouldn't put it past Toyotaro to drag this thing out another three chapters with some sort of press conference featuring Sergeant Nutz, Saiyaman X-1 and X-2, and Cleangod.
There's been talk of a big surprise twist or something in chapter 100, but I'm not holding my breath. Usually when this franchise has a big announcement, it's about the date for some actual announcement later, and that announcement usually turns out to be something the fans kind of already heard about anyway. "Yes, we will be releasing a Chapter 101" is the sort of thing I would expect them to "announce" in chapter 100.
It would be cool if Chapter 100 ended with Black Frieza showing up and killing Vegeta or something major like that. Or, I don't know, maybe Goten and Trunks turn evil. Those would be shocking developments, but I doubt this manga would go that far. We'll just have to see...

Steve Is Forcibly Adopted
Fandom: Stranger Things
WC: 1.5k
A/N: It's been a minute! I swear I meant to finish this like a month ago. I hope you enjoy this fic of Steve and his chosen family.
It was in the early hours of July 5th, 1985, when Hopper and El adopted Steve. It would be a while before Steve himself recognized this, but that night at the hospital was the beginning of their cobbled-together family.
The exhaustion had taken residence in Hopper’s bones, and with the hefty dose of non-opioid pain meds in his system, the only thing he wanted was to go home and sleep. Preferably on the floor of El’s room, but he would settle for the couch outside her door if she wanted space. El had been given stitches and a clean bill of health by Owens’ people, and had quietly accepted the crutches Hopper pushed into her arms.
“Ready to head home?” Hop asked as El pulled herself to her feet and awkwardly positioned the crutches under her arms. Instead of answering, she started toward the door.
The two of them made it slowly down the endless hallway, quiet except for the beeping machines behind other closed doors. Until -
“I’m sorry, Mr. Harrington, but we can’t release you until you have someone who can watch you for the next few days,” an apologetic nurse could be heard from behind a curtain.
“It’s Steve. And I promise I’ll be fine, and I’ll come back if anything weird starts to happen, just - please, let me leave,” Steve Harrington sounded like he was half delirious, half on the verge of tears.
“Steve, you were injected with an unknown substance, we really can’t let you leave on your own,” the nurse explained.
Hopper had heard enough. One glance at El’s wide pleading eyes was all he needed before he twitched the curtain aside with a gruff, “We’ll take him.”
Steve and the nurse both jumped, and Jesus, it looks like the kid’s been through the wringer. Bruises littered his face, a patch of gauze was taped over one eye, and Hopper could tell the kid was dealing with some broken ribs by the way his arm cradled his torso.
Steve blinked in confusion as the nurse brightened. “Chief Hopper! Of course, I’ll get his discharge paperwork. Shouldn’t take two minutes.”
XXXXXXXXX
In the hospital parking lot, Steve hung back when El and Hopper clambered into Hop’s car. He kept his eyes on the ground, scuffing the toe of one sneaker. “Thanks for breaking me out, Chief. I’ll, uh, get out of your hair.”
Hop didn’t even have to look to see the way El’s eyes narrowed. She opened her mouth, but Hop beat her to it. “Kid, I wasn’t lying about keeping an eye on you. The nurse said you need to be watched, so we’ll watch you. Got it?”
A blush crept up on Steve’s face. “Oh, I couldn’t impose, really, and I’m sure you want to spend some time with Supergirl here, and -”
“Steve,” El’s quiet plea stopped him in his tracks. “We want you. To come home with us. Please.” The passenger side door swung open. El wiped a trickle of blood from her nose.
“Get in the damn car, kid,” Hop said gruffly.
Steve got in the damn car.
XXXXXXXXX
What was supposed to be a week of Hop-and-El-supervision melted into two weeks of all-three-of-them-healing-and-processing, which became a month of Steve-helping-El-with-schoolwork-while-Hop-fixed-up-the-cabin, until one day Hopper climbed up the cabin steps after work, listening to the faint sounds of his kids making dinner together, and he was suddenly struck by how right it all felt.
The three had dinner together, and El turned on her favorite soap while Hop took care of the dishes. Steve took a quick shower, and then padded into the living room in his pajamas. He collapsed on the couch next to El, making her bounce in her seat.
“Do we have to watch this boring show, Ellie? Why can’t we put on a baseball game or something?” He whined playfully.
“Because,” El said primly, “My show is good. Baseball is just men chasing after a ball and trying to get it in a hoop.”
Steve flopped over on top of El. “Ellie, that’s basketball, not baseball. Come on, please?” He turned his face up to give her puppy eyes.
“Get off! You are heavy!” Ell laughed, shoving at Steve’s shoulders.
“Please please please please please?” Steve asked, punctuating each please with a poke to El’s side.
El collapsed to the side with a bright giggle, shaking her head rapidly back and forth, making her curls bounce. Never one to be outdone, she poked Steve back. “No no no no no no! We are watching my show!”
Hopper dried the last dish and wandered into the living room, settling into the armchair and ready to make sure his kids didn’t kill each other.
Steve just grinned at El, shrugging nonchalantly. “Sorry, Ellie, not ticklish.”
“What is ‘ticklish’?”
“When I poked you and you laughed just now? That’s because your tummy is ticklish,” Steve explained, poking El again.
She grinned, then pushed his hand away with a pout. “But you are not? Ticklish?”
“Nope,” Steve said. Hopper watched as he bit down on the left side of his bottom lip. Hop snorted. Steve couldn’t lie to anybody, except maybe El.
Both of their heads whipped around to look at Hopper. Steve looked indignant. “What? I’m not!” he protested, still biting down on the corner of his lip.
“You can’t lie for shit kid,” Hop chuckled. He turned to El, patiently explaining, “Sometimes, a person can hold back their laughter when tickled in certain places. That just means you have to find the place where they can’t help but giggle.”
El looked like Christmas came early, while Steve’s face turned bright red. El turned to Steve, “Where? Where where where?” Poking at his ribs and neck, where Hop knew El herself was ticklish.
Steve’s eyes widened, before he gently pushed her hands away. “Sorry Ellie. Some people are like that, yeah, but some people just aren’t ticklish.”
“Some people, maybe, but not you,” Hop snickered as Steve shot a glare his way.
“Hop doesn’t know what he’s talking about!” Steve protested loudly, trying to catch El’s hands as they started poking with renewed vigor.
“Oh no?” Hop asked. He surveyed Steve with a critical eye. “El, try behind his knees.”
“Hop!” Steve yelped incredulously, before promptly launching himself off the couch with a shriek as El did just that.
Hop chuckled to himself as Steve immediately shot to his feet, making a mad dash for his room. Unfortunately for him, Hopper had the reflexes of a parent, and shot his arm out to snag Steve around the waist before hauling him into his lap.
“Wait wait wait, Hop don’t, please, please I’ll die, just wahahahahait!” Steve collapsed into bubbly laughter as Hop’s fingers fluttered behind his knee, kicking out at nothing.
El let out a delighted gasp. “You lied! Friends don’t lie!” And she ran over to shove her fingers behind Steve’s other knee.
Steve’s laughter doubled as he visibly tried to hold back his kicks so as not to hurt El. “Nohohohohoo! Plehehease, I’m sohohohorry!
“Now that we've got him giggling,” Hopper explained over Steve’s protests, “He probably can’t hold back when we do this.” Hop dug into Steve’s tummy and raked his fingernails in towards Steve’s belly button, prompting an actual scream from Steve before he started cackling.
El happily flapped her hands at Steve’s reactions as she moved up to spider her fingers along his neck and collar bones. Steve scrunched up, trying to block El’s fingers but only succeeding in trapping them against his sensitive skin.
Steve had apparently lost the ability to form words, and when Hop saw the first tears trickle down from the corners of his eyes, he slowed his hands. “Okay, okay El. He’s had enough,” Hop said, using his thumb to wipe away Steve’s tears of mirth. El retracted her hands and resumed flapping happily, climbing onto the arm of the chair that wasn’t occupied by Steve.
Hop tried rubbing a soothing hand up and down Steve’s back, but he arched away with a giggle. “Jesus, kid, is there anywhere you aren’t ticklish?” Hop asked. Steve stuck his bottom lip out in a pout, but wordlessly moved Hopper’s hand to his hair. Hop took the hint and started scritching lightly at Steve’s scalp. Steve melted into Hopper with a sigh. El, feeling left out, dragged Hopper’s other hand to her own head, where he obligingly gave her the same treatment.
Hopper pressed kisses to the crowns of both of their heads and tried to chisel the moment into his memories. His thoughts strayed to Sarah, as they often did these days. He hoped she was proud of him. As his other kids’ breaths evened out, he let himself think of her smile. Wherever she was, Hopper hoped she knew he missed her.
He liked to think she had a hand in El and Steve coming into his life.

WIP Wednesday
Got tagged by @waytooinvested and yup, it's Monday, but it'll always be Wednesday in our hearts.
This is the WIP I have been poking at for awhile since I first wrote it ages ago (after someone asked the supercorp fandom to write it, so I wrote up a potential start). My Anamchara WIP or the a.k.a. Soulmate Tattoo AU:
___________
When her tests came back showing only a vitamin D deficiency, Lena ordered a copy of her medical records. Surely, the doctors had missed something? The pain had been horrendous. A simple deficiency wouldn’t cause that surely, but alas, the doctors shrugged and slapped her with dehydration and Vitamin D deficiency diagnoses.
Some IV fluids and vitamins later, Lena was discharged. As relieved as she was, irritation also flooded her. Damn doctors and their bogus diagnoses. Pain that bad meant something was wrong, but as for what it could be, she’d have to do it herself. As usual.
Neither spoke as Lena and Kara walked through the hallway and past several empty gurneys. The windows revealed a dazzling sunset, the moon low on the horizon. Damn, she’d been here for the entire day? Well, crap, Jack must be worried sick by now.
And she hadn’t looked at her phone once. Guilt trickled through her. Part of that had been due to feeling a trifle light-headed from being severely dehydrated. Getting fluids had definitely alleviated that.
Secondly, Kara had stayed with her the entire time, offering stories and lighthearted jokes to pass the time between tests. Lena learned that Kara, like herself, was adopted. Unlike herself, Kara had a stern sister, while Lena had an alarmingly problematic brother, and Kara really loved potstickers — Lena had never had them to Kara’s horror.
The chaos came the moment the two stepped into the waiting atrium, near the check-in desk. The chorus of “It’s Supergirl!” rippled across the room.
Lena had been watching Kara at the time, so she saw the wince before Kara forced a smile. The unease in Kara’s stance had Lena gently grasping her arm and steering her toward the front doors. “Thanks,” Kara murmured, her forced smile still on her face, and her waves to the other patients timid almost.
“Supergirl! Can I have your autograph?” The girl had wheeled herself between Lena and the door, her drawing pad held out toward Kara, a hopeful look on her face.
For a second, Kara looked stunned by the request.
Lena stepped in smoothly. “Hello there. Supergirl would be glad to do so, wouldn’t you?” She gave Kara an eyebrow raise. That seemed to shake her out of her stupor.
“Yeah, yeah!” Kara smiled and knelt next to the wheelchair. She took the drawing pad and pen. “So what’s your name? And anything you’d like me to write?”

A Wicked Game
Here's a little RojasCorp drabble as part of the Mods' collection of example fics for the Supergirl May-hem Event. Read it HERE on AO3.
Sign-ups for Supergirl May-Hem open December 1st. Seeking writers, artists and betas. For more information, you can find us HERE.
There is something about their relationship that has always been a bit toxic. A small, tiny little fact that never seems to matter to either of them. It seems the two of them are drawn to each other like magnets. Regardless of how much betrayal is shared between them, no matter how many lies are told, they find their way into each other’s orbit. Every time, without fail.
Lena is beginning to understand that it is inevitable. She’s tried to resist it for years, but it’s futile. It’s a cycle that has been repeating itself since she was a teenager. An exasperated sigh slips from her lips as she brings the crystal tumbler up, drinking the last of her Macallan Red. She briefly considers whether to pour another, but her hands are already tilting the bottle before she consciously decides. A quiet chuckle fills the air around her as she sits the bottle back down, eyeing the one sitting next to it on her liquor cabinet. Her taste in scotch has naturally shifted over the years, drifting closer to her Irish roots. Andrea was the one who introduced her to the whiskey back in their boarding school days. Van Horne. It’s the name on the bottle glaring back at her from the shelf in front of her.
She throws her head back and blows out a huff of frustration. Her overactive mind always does this to her after an encounter with her childhood friend. Their lives have been intermingled in the most intricate ways for most of her life. By design or by fate, she’s never been sure. Either way, the woman infuriates her in ways no one else can.
Fucking Andrea.
Making her way to her bedroom, she strips off the suit she’s been wearing for far longer than she wanted and changes into her softest leggings, warmest fuzzy socks, and her favorite sweater. When she agreed to the tech investment dinner, she knew there was a chance Andrea would be there. They work in the same industry and have always been part of the same social groups so running into the Latina is something she is accustomed to. What she didn’t expect was for Andrea to show up with her. The obnoxious little parasite that has been nipping at Andrea’s heels for years. She can’t even remember her name, but she’s made the rounds through all of the eligible, rich women in their circle. She and Andrea broke off their…arrangement (?) six months ago, but it was still a bit of a shock to see her ex-something with someone else.
Their relationship was never exactly exclusive. Their lives and jobs have never allowed them to be in the same place at the same time for very long so they’ve always just agreed to being together when they can and taking other bed partners if and when they had an itch to scratch. For the most part, it’s always worked out. Andrea had moved to National City not too long after Lena’s arrival and they’d spent a lot more time together, definitely a lot more time in each other’s beds. Their most recent split was over a business disagreement that swiftly escalated into one of their nastiest fights since right after college. The Russell Incident, as Lena often refers to it in her head. That fight led to them not speaking for four years. Now she wonders if it will be the same this time.
Lena doesn’t get a chance to explore that train of thought. Just as she leaves her bedroom padding towards her liquor cabinet and her Macallan Red, a harsh buzzing echoes through her penthouse. There’s only one person it can be and she’s not drunk enough to deal with what she knows is going to be a heated confrontation. She slams back what’s left of her third glass of scotch, debates on refilling it again, and stomps her way to the front door instead.
Glancing at the video monitor beside the door, she rolls her eyes. Andrea is standing there with her typical feigned look of nonchalance. She knows the woman too well and can see the nervous vulnerability hiding beneath the facade. Tonight, she certainly doesn’t want to deal with it. She’s too pissed and hurt to want to subject herself to Andrea’s usual wicked little games, but it seems she is being forced to. So, she takes a deep breath, steels herself, and erects the Luthor armor before yanking the door open.
“What do you want, Drea?” Lena hisses, pure venom dripping from her words. She checks her watch. It’s just after midnight. “Hmmm, I figured you’d already be back at your apartment fucking what’s her name by now. Bored of her already? Such a shame.” She stands in her doorway, blocking entrance to the brunette with a hand on the doorframe and a raised brow.
Andrea sighs, her hands twisting in front of her in a way Lena hasn’t seen since they were in their teens. “Come on, Querida (darling). Please let me in so we can talk.” She reaches up like she is going to put a hand on Lena’s, but pulls back at the last minute. “Lena, mi corazón (my heart), I’m begging you, let me explain. It’s not what you think. I promise.”
The CEO scoffs, her emerald eyes a fiery spear piercing the Latina’s soul. “Your promises are empty so save it. First of all, you have absolutely no right calling me any of your little pet names, Drea. Not anymore. You lost that privilege. Second of all, why in the hell should I let you into my home, my safe space after the shit you have put me through most of our lives?” Her voice drops low, pure anger radiates from her skin and body like electricity. “I’m done with your emotional games, Andrea. I’m not that scared little girl you toyed with when we were kids. Gods, I should have put an end to your wicked bullshit years ago.”
She groans and steps back, opening the door to let the seemingly forlorn woman into her home. Closing the door, she presses a hand to Andrea’s chest and steps in front of her, preventing her from moving further into the apartment. Once she has the woman trapped between herself and the door, she crosses her arms just below her breasts, narrows her eyes, and raises her signature brow again. She knows what it does to her ex. It’s always been something that sends shivers down Andrea’s spine and Lena plans to use it to her advantage.
“You have exactly five minutes to explain before I kick you out of here and out of my life, Drea.” She extends her arm to look at her watch for emphasis and resumes her crossed arm pose, extending to her full height with her shoulders back. “I suggest you use it wisely.”
“Right. Okay.” Andrea shifts from one foot to the other, feeling decidedly uncomfortable and unfortunately turned on. Lena has always had this effect on her when she gets mad. What? So sue her, Lena’s fucking hot when she’s mad. She does her best to shake that thought from her head and clears her throat. “Riley was there as a favor to her father. That’s all it was, I swear. Well, I mean, I also wanted to make you jealous.” Andrea grins, that little sparkle in her eyes that always appears when she’s trying to get what she wants.
A molten hot wave of rage boils up from Lena’s gut, crawling up her chest, and sitting heavy on her tongue. She sees the moment Andrea realizes she fucked up and relishes watching those ocean blue eyes widen. “This. Is. Exactly. What. I. Mean.” Lena hisses each word, low and dangerous, she steps closer to the Latina as Andrea shuffles backward until her back lands harshly against the front door. The startling thud makes her swallow audibly. “I’m done with your fucking games, Drea. I’m too old for this shit. Go play your tricks on someone else.”
Lena takes a few more steps into Andrea’s personal space, their height difference barely noticeable. She leans forward, close enough that Andrea can feel her warm breath on her plump lips. “Mmm, it’s too bad, too. We both know there’s nobody else that fucks you like I do.” She smirks. Andrea’s chest heaves from their proximity and releases a quiet moan. She softly nuzzles her nose on the brunette's cheek before licking her lips close enough to graze the woman’s bottom lip.  “See, you have always assumed I will just be around whenever you want. Not anymore.”
She pushes herself back and away from her former lover, glancing over her shoulder once more before she walks away. “See yourself out, Drea. I’m done with you.”
The sun beams into the bedroom, stirring Lena from her slumber. Blinking away the grogginess of sleep, she feels soft lips and warm hands skimming across her bare skin. She sighs and rolls her eyes.
“Good morning, Querida.” Andrea says, a sleepy smile and adoring eyes trained on Lena. “I’ll make breakfast. Stay in bed.” She says, pressing a soft kiss to the porcelain skin of her forehead and bounces out of bed. She grabs Lena’s robe as she exits the room just like she’s done a thousand times before.
Lena groans. The cycle begins again.
Oh the wicked games they play.

Botanical Beauty: Poison Ivy's Lethal Elegance by Jade Gretz
Moonlight dripped through the skeletal branches of Gotham City's abandoned amusement park, casting eerie shadows on Pamela Isley, better known as Poison Ivy. Her emerald eyes, glinting with curiosity, scanned the overgrown foliage, not for prey, but for a rare specimen rumored to grow within the park's decaying heart. "The Widow's Bane," they called it, a plant said to embody misfortune as tangible as its toxic thorns.
Ivy scoffed. Misfortune? Mere superstition fueled by ignorance. Besides, what botanist worth her salt could resist the allure of such an anomaly? Her bare feet padded silently across the decaying asphalt, the scent of damp earth and forgotten laughter clinging to the air.
There, bathed in the cold moonlight, it stood. A twisted vine, unlike anything she'd ever seen, spiraled around a rusted roller coaster track, its crimson blooms drooping like macabre lanterns. An unsettling aura pulsed from it, a prickling on Ivy's skin that wasn't just the plant's toxins. Was it truly cursed?
Intrigued, she reached out, brushing a finger against one of the velvety petals. A jolt of icy pain shot up her arm, followed by a wave of nausea. Panic flared, but before she could retreat, the thorns dug into her flesh, drawing a bead of glistening green blood.
Then, darkness.
When she came to, the amusement park seemed different, darker, as if bathed in a perpetual twilight. People walked around, their faces etched with despair, muttering incoherent phrases. A feeling of heaviness descended on Ivy, an oppressive cloak of negativity. Had the Bane's curse seeped into her?
The first victim was an aspiring comedian, his jokes landing with thunderous silence. Then, a couple arguing on a park bench, their words twisting into venomous insults, the fight escalating to violence. Despair hung in the air, an invisible contagion spreading with each touch, each interaction.
Ivy knew she had to act. Ignoring the throbbing pain in her arm, she focused on the plant, analyzing its structure, its energy flow. It thrived on negativity, amplifying it a hundredfold. But wi …(see the rest of the story at deviantart.com/jadegretzAI). She knows I’m coming. She probably heard me six blocks away. Heard my voice, my heartbeat.
Lena walked softly down the hall of Kara’s building, counting the doors, counting how many times she had walked past these old bricks with joy lifting her heart. Game nights and movie nights and sleepovers, all the little things she’d torn apart with her bare hands in petty vengeance for Kara’s betrayal.
She did betray me! She lied, she manipulated, she used me.
Lena reached the door and hesitated.
Used me for what? What did Kara or Supergirl ever ask of me that I wouldn’t have given freely?
In her secret heart, Lena knew that it was what Kara didn’t ask for. The one thing she never wanted. She stood outside the door for a half minute, fingers curled in a loose fist as she fought to find the willpower to do this.
It never came. Kara swung the door in and stood there. She was dressed in a soft, yellow sweater and gray leggings, hair down and barefoot, in her natural state where she was just Kara.
A momentary flicker of concern folded Kara’s brows when Lena’s heart raced explosively. Maybe she really could hear it.
If only she’d listened to it.
Lena dropped her hand to her side. Her carefully prepared speech fell to ash in her mouth and she trembled on the spot, eyes a little too wide as Kara looked at her with a flat expression. Not anger. Not remorse. Not concern.
(not desire)
Just… nothing.
It felt like a thousand years passed when Kara turned around and silently padded back into her loft, stopping by the table. She stood, her back to Lena, arms folded, silent.
But she didn’t close the door.
Lena stepped tentatively inside and swung the door shut behind her. She swallowed hard, trying to wet her throat so she could speak, but nothing worked.
Finally, she managed to begin choking it out.
“I made a terrible mistake.”
Kara said nothing.
“I was hurt. I was so hurt. I let it blind me and lead me down a dark path. I thought I could fix everything. I just wanted to make the hurting stop. All the hurting. Lex is back. He’s taken my research and he’s going to do something terrible with it. I want to help you stop him.”
There was still no reaction. Lena wasn’t sure if she saw Kara’s shoulders move or if it was a figment of her imagination. She supposed it didn’t matter. Kara wasn’t saying anything.
Lena couldn’t hold back the sob that burst out of her. She could see it now, the anger burning inside Kara. The rejection and betrayal. The fury as cold as the crystal walls of her secret fortress.
This was it. Lena did it. She won.
She made Kara hate her.
Lena sagged, almost falling like a puppet with cut strings. She wrapped her arms tightly around herself and tried to fight back the tears and failed. They fell freely, cutting hot lines down her cheeks as sobs wracked her body.
She didn’t beg or plead; her silence was not born of stiff-necked Luthor arrogance but of resignation. She couldn’t bear it. If she beseeched Kara for forgiveness and was met only with silence she might die.
Lena turned for the door, half blinded, wishing some hell would swallow her up and bring an end to this misery.
She didn’t make it.
A powerful arm drew around her with sublime care. A hand that could crush titanium rested gently on her shoulder, and she was turned around so delicately, so gently, that she wondered if she’d fainted and this was a dream.
Even with Lena in heels, Kara easily brought Lena’s head to her shoulder and rested her own chin atop hers, taking Lena into a deep, careful embrace. Lena hugged back hard, with all her strength. She hugged Kara as if she meant to climb inside her, as if she could never let go. Kara was still silent.
“Kara?”
Kara took a deep breath, her powerful body shuddering in Lena’s arms.
“I thought I lost you forever.”
Lena shattered again, harder this time. She sobbed against Kara, digging her fingers into Kara’s back. Kara simply stroked her hair and hummed softly into Lena’s scalp.
“I don’t want to let go of you,” Kara whispered.
Kara shifted, looking down at her. Lena drew back, blinking tear-reddened eyes. Kara just stared at her, eyes searching, drinking every detail of her face. With her fingers, she lightly brushed a lock of hair from Lena’s cheek and smiled.
Kara was radiant. It was like the sun had finally emerged from behind dark clouds and Lena stood full in its warmth again. She hasn’t seen that smile in so long, she could barely believe it had ever been real. The sheer joy in Kara’s eyes was too much to bear.
Lena was barely aware that she’d lifted up on her toes, that she was reaching, back arching, arms around Kara’s waist to steady herself.
The look of absolute shock on Kara’s face paled in comparison to the softness of her lips. Kara stood stone still for a moment and Lena’s heart jumped again as she thought she’d again made a terrible mistake, and started to pull back.
There was nowhere to go. Kara casually lifted Lena from her feet as she kissed her back, effortlessly pulling her into a spinning, joyous hug.
When Kara put her down again, Lena knew she was a mess of red-rimmed eyes and tears with a silly smile on her face. Kara’s eyes were wet, too, and Lena had left a smear of dark lipstick behind.
“Kara,” Lena whispered. “Is this… are we… can we…”
Kara’s shoulders rolled back and she stood to her full height, gently cupping Lena’s chin in her soft hand.
“Lena, I’m Supergirl. I can do anything.”

You ever have one of those ideas that you know is a strong start to a story but you don't know if you'll EVER do anything more with it?
Yeah this is one of those ideas. There's so much promise with these two scenes but I have NO idea where to go with them from here! So hope you just enjoy being teased!

Morning at Monster High brought with it a hustle and bustle of students moving throughout the hallways to get to their classes on time. Students such as Frankie Stein who was rummaging through her locker for the right books for her next class. As she did so she was approached by her best ghoulfriends, Draculaura and Clawdeen Wolf.
“Hey Frankie! Ready for class?” Draculaura asked.
“Almost, I just need to get my clawculous book,” Frankie replied.
“I just hope today’s going to be a normal day,” Clawdeen scoffed.
“What do you mean?” Draculaura asked.
“Think about it, ghoul! We’ve had to deal with genies, aliens, voice stealing crystals and a Kraken! Just to name a few things! I’m ready for this scaremester to be nice and boring.”
“Wow, when you put it like that we really have been through a lot!” Draculaura remarked.
“Which means this should be a boring scaremester cause what else could go wrong?” Frankie joked.
“Don’t say that! You’re gonna jinx us!” Clawdeen warned.
“Oh come on, don’t tell me you actually believe in that stuff?!”
Suddenly the school shook as a loud explosion was heard coming from the courtyard out front.
“You were saying?” Clawdeen snarked before she, Draculaura, Frankie and a bunch of other students ran outside.
Once they reached the steps of the front entryway, they found a large smoking crater where half the courtyard used to be. As the smoke started to clear, they could make out a figure lying in the middle of the giant hole. She looked like a blonde human girl wearing a blue shirt, red skirt and a red…cape? She let out a soft, pained moan as she started to stir before she floated up into the air, revealing a red and yellow “S” symbol on the front of her shirt. She rubbed her forehead as she regained her senses. She looked over at the collection of monsters all staring at her and smiled nervously.
“Um…hi?” she said sheepishly.
“Hello…flying normie girl,” Draculaura replied awkwardly. “Are you…okay?”
“I…think so? I just…need to find out where I am.”
“How about we start with who are you?” Clawdeen insisted.
“Oh right. You can call me, Supergirl.”

Morning at Ever After High brought with it the hustle and bustle of students trying to get to their classes on time. That was except for Apple White, who merely stood in front of her open locker and stared at an old picture of her and Daring Charming. It was taken only a few months ago but it felt like a lifetime ago. Before she accidently freed the Evil Queen. Before she bit into that poison apple. Before…
“Hey…Apple?”
The voice brought her out of her stupor with a start and she turned to see Raven Queen standing before her.
“You okay?” she asked.
“Oh, I’m fine,” Apple tried to line. “I was just…looking for one of my text books.”
“Uh huh,” Raven nodded, unconvinced. She then noticed the photo. “Sooooo…things still awkward between you and Daring?”
“Yeah,” she sighed.
“And…what about you and Darling?”
Apple reflectively touched her lips at mention of the other girl’s name. Darling Charming. The Charming that actually woke her from her enchanted slumber with a kiss.
“That’s…complicated,” she muttered.
“It doesn’t have to be,” Raven said, placing a comforting hand on her friend’s shoulder.
Before Apple could respond, the school shook as a loud explosion was heard just outside.
“What was that?!” Raven shouted in surprise.
She, Apple, and some other students ran towards the front entrance of the school. Once they reached the front steps they found a giant, smoking crater in the front courtyard. As the smoke began to clear they could make out a figure lying in the middle of the giant hole. She was wearing a red shirt with gold armor shoulder pads and a pair of blue pants with stars down the sides and red boots. She let out a soft, pained groan as she stood up and brushed some of the black hair from her face to reveal a gold tiara with a red star in the center.
“Um…hello? Are you alright?” Apple asked as she cautiously approached the newcomer.
“I…think so. I just need to figure out where I am,” she replied.
“Maybe you could start with telling us who you are,” Raven suggested.
“My name is Diana, Princess of Themyscira. But you can call me, Wonder Woman.”
