Otto's mom's name!!!!!

I think one of the worst things the HotD fandom did is their reaction to Alicent post-birth. There were so many posts flying around stating Alicent is a bad mom because she looked uninterested in her babies and used the nannies.

It never occurred to anyone that the girl who lost her mom at a young age would struggle with motherhood? It never occurred to anyone that the girl in a loveless marriage who was forcefully impregnated may not be happy after giving birth? People really looked at those sad, disassociated eyes as she cradled a baby the size of her upper body and thought, "Yeah she's the monster here".

To compare with Rhaenyra:

Alicent was a child giving birth to children, while Rhaenyra was at least a little bit older (Still not good for either of them).

Alicent was forced into pregnancy with a man she doesn't love, while Rhaenyra was able to choose and consent to her partner.

Alicent had no support system: her mom died when she was young, Viserys became uninterested after Aegon's birth wore off, and her own father was only interested in the kids' claim to the throne (Otto also left court- which made Alicent even more alone). Rhaenyra had Laenor, Harwin Strong, and seems Viserys is a bit more supportive towards her (Not by much though. It's like comparing a finger nail and a hair's width).

For the record, I don't think Rhaenyra's situation is that much better and both still have it bad. Rhaenyra was still expected to have kids and had them way to young.

I am trying to point out the fandom unjustly went after a teen mom/wife who probably suffered from postpartum depression.

did Alicent call for her mother? did she ask her, a woman she thought was so wise and all knowing, why? why it happened to her? why her father betrayed her so? why this man who was so much older than her, looked at her with such empty lustful eyes? did she silently pray for her mother when Viserys raped her, night after night, begging for her to save her? did she imagine her mother walking next to her as she made her way to Viserys's chambers, knowing what was to happen, unable to change her fate? did she scream for her during labor, begging for her to be by her side, to hold her hand, to make the pain stop? did she cry for her mother when she was raising a child, while still a child herself, another on the way, clueless as to what to do? did she ask her for advice? did she beg for forgiveness cause she was failing her children? did she kneel at the Sept till it hurt more than she could bear, trying to feel her mother's arms around her? did she take Aegon? Helaena? Aemond? Daeron? did she take them with her to pray, to get to know her mother? did she have to hold them still and remind them to be quiet in such a place? did she hold them close as she told them stories of her?

did she ever think of Aemma? she must have, she must have when Viserys forced her into the late queen's robes, she must have when he frequently called her by the wrong name, when he sought her hand in marriage before his mourning period had even ended. did she beg for Aemma's forgiveness? was she sorry for what Viserys was doing to her? did she blame herself? did she feel guilty for having a healthy son on the first try, for having 4 healthy babes? did she tell her kids of her? did she share her memories of Aemma with them? did she question how she managed to be with Viserys for so long? how she lost so much cause of that man yet pain and anger never once flashed in her eyes? did she think of the last conversation she heard from her, about the child bed and royal wombs, often?

Any marvel writer that’s about to make a Spider-Man comic/episode/whatever that even briefly touches on Otto’s childhood should be contractually obligated to read all of Doctor Octopus Year One beforehand and write a page and a half long essay analyzing Otto’s relationship with his mother and how it has affected him as a person I am only MOSTLY joking here.

Do you think Otto genuinely loves Alicent and is just a product of his society as a second son? I know he’s hated for his scheming but he’s no different than most Westerosi politicians.

i don’t really see it as love per se (can’t think of the right word to use rn), and if it is, it’s a selfish type of love.

otto knows very well what he asks of alicent from day one. he just believes the means justify the end.

he uses alicent to gain power while at the same time he says “i made you queen of the seven kingdoms”. he gaslights and emotionally manipulates her often. 

maybe he does care to see her succeed also because she is his child, but the cost is alicent’s body and mind.

we’ve never actually seen otto have to risk something for alicent per se. like genuinely have to work against himself or his interests for her. 

whatever love is there, if there is any, it’s very selfish and self serving.

For somebody who doesn’t play HI3 I sure mention it a lot but man Otto seems to have a wine addiction. Every time I see like screenshots or art of the man he’s just pounding back a glass of red wine like his life depends on it. I keep expecting him to show up with a comically bigger and bigger wine glass every time.

So much going on here.
