Kanej Fic Recs: The "Figuring Out Intimacy" Trope
If you're anything like me, you're a glutton for very specific fic tropes applied to your very favorite OTPs (and we all know my OTP of OTPs is kanej). To this end, ao3 tags are your best friend. When you see that delicious combination of tags like "emotional hurt/comfort" and "healing" and "pining" with some sort of moody, vaguely poetic title, that's the good shit right there. That is a MEAL, and you are about to feast.
Anyways. I'm getting off track.
I come to you today with more than just an offering to the potluck; I am here to open up the doors to the whole damn buffet. That's right - FIC RECS. Specifically, fic recs that scratch the particular itch for "post-canon fics where Kaz and Inej figure out how to touch each other, but really the Physical Armor is always symbolic of the Emotional Armor that they have to learn to lower if they hope to ever really Be Together." Do you know what I'm talking about? If you know, you know. It's kanej figuring out intimacy. It's touch, but it's about the way they touch each other's souls. It's a fandom-classic fic trope. FEAST AWAY. (And feel free to reblog and add any of your own favorites! This is certainly not an exhaustive list, just some favorites of mine that fit the bill.)
They're all complete, they're all canon compliant (I had to set some limitations because my list was getting out of hand lol), and they're listed in order of rating (T, M, etc.), but otherwise they're in no particular order, and the summaries and/or most of the excerpts are those provided by the authors on ao3!

Merry Christmas (if you celebrate it)...So I just have an interesting discussions with my JJK moots (also fics writers) last night. There are 5 of us and we all have different ships (A = nanami/gojo, B = gojo/yuji, C = gojo/utahime, D = sukuna/yuuji & itadori/fushiguro also an anti gojo, and E (me) = gojo/ geto).
One of the thing that interest me is, when I asked the first three people why they include Getou in their fics. You know what they said? "We can't imagine Gojo without Getou's influence. So we made Getou as the 'memorable and unforgetable ex- lover'. Getou also fit as Gojo's 'one and only best friend'." And when I asked the fourth one, who do you ship Gojo with. They said, " I really dislike Gojo as a character so I can only see Gojo with Getou as the most reasonable ship."
Until now I was still surprised that even among non- SatoSugu shipper and anti Gojo fan, they can't deny the special bond between Gojo and Getou. And that's why they are my otp.... Sorry for this long ask, hope you don't mind....

That does sound like you had an interesting discussion.
Now, personally for me, I do like Gojo as a character and yep, I have my ships for him. First one happen to be Gojo/Nanami, like that was my first Gojo and Nanami ship. Still like it. It's the only other Gojo ship I like. And of course, right now, I'm a fan of Gojo/Geto.
The movie did it for me because ain't no way you recognize someone from his scent of his energy and you haven't seen him in 10+ years or you're going around renaming people with a name that sounds like your "friend's" name while also wearing a clothing piece that has his last name in its name!
For me, I happen to like the characters. I like how they are on their own and if I like the dynamic they have with another character then, yeah, I'd probably ship it romantically and still vibe with it platonically.
(There are some instances I won't though. Not all dynamics strike me as "they would potentially have a romance".)
It's always funny to me when there will be people who are anti-*insert character or ship*, yet can't even deny that ship's special bond between those characters.
I see it a lot for another fandom I'm in for a really popular ship and it will just tickle me to see some anti go "this character isn't gay" but then turn around and go "but their relationship with this character is kinda not normal... but they're not gay". They act like a character has to be strictly gay to actually have romance with another character. Honey, the word "bisexual" exist. "Pansexual" exists. There are so many options for sexualities.
Or even funnier when those characters don't even show interest in the opposite sex like that and/or treat characters of that opposite the same way.
And honestly, I need some people to understand the difference between characters hating each other or just one character truly hates the other (AND IT BE EXPLICIT SOMETIMES) and having just a complicated relationship and not hate each other. Just because two characters are at odds sometimes, it doesn't always mean they hate each other. Especially, if they do things they won't do with anybody else.
Like, let's be real, whatever Gojo and Geto have cannot be compared with other relationships they have with other characters because what the hell?! Platonic or romantic, those two are soulmates!
When they separated from each other, I just... oh my gosh! It started going downhill for Geto when Gojo was assigned to more solo missions and when Geto deflected? Gojo really lost his damn mind! He really out here acting like that! He was so distraught, man made himself bleed!
"My one and only", "My soul knows otherwise..."
And in the dub, Gojo says "My heart and soul"!
Geto literally choking out his own body from beyond the grave because Gojo called out to him.
DECEMBER 24TH!!
It's like with those two... if another character told Gojo "if you can shoot that basketball into the goal, I'll give you a kiss" and then he'll purposely miss. Let Geto say it, he'll show out, shoot the basketball and get it in the basket ten times in a row.
Someone ask Geto "Well, what kind of people are you into", he'll probably go "definitely not you". Gojo ask? Heart eyes and "why are you asking? Are you into me?"

Gina, my girl Gina!! I love her development!! She adds to the atmosphere so well in Unspeakable Story, and I love her and Gregson's dynamic in DGS2!
Least Favourite Character:
Roly Beate. I think his gag is a little obnoxious, but I'm less endeared to him than Pat, so... I don't really actively dislike him that much, but he annoys me, so if I have to pick a least favourite...

A random thought:
Killing off Jezaille Brett at the start of DGS2 is an excellent way of setting the tone for the rest of the game, as well as setting up that, yeah, important characters can just die, so that Gregson's death works better later. I think it's a very shocking reveal that she's the victim, and I like it a lot.
An unpopular opinion:
Idk if this is that unpopular, but I asked my friend, and they told me this is at least a weird opinion, but Return of the Great Departed Soul is my favourite case in the doulogy, and my favourite case in Ace Attorney overall.
My canon OTP:
There aren't that many canon ships, to my memory, but the Vigils (Evie and Daley Vigil), I guess? Better than the Beates or the Garridebs...
My non-canon OTP:
I guess since this says OTP I can't say Ginasusahao, so uhm... Ginasusa, maybe? That's probably my favourite DGS ship, but I'm not like, that attached to it specifically, so...
Most badass character:
SUSATO MIKOTOBA!!! She saves you in court so many times, and she will take down anyone she needs to with a Susato takedown <3
Pairing I am not a fan of:
Hm... The most I think I get towards DGS ships I don't care is ambivilent, tbh. I can usualy see why people like them, though. I guess the ones I stear most clear from would be Baroryuu or Asobaro? Nothing against then, and I can get why people ship them, but they're not really my thing.
Character I feel the writer's screwed up:
Right, this isn't so clear-cut as it would be as if I was writing this about PL, but if you'll allow me to be petty for a moment, I do have a few minor grievances with Susato. I love her writing for the most part, but I think there was a major missed opportunity in the specifics of her ending.
I don't think her thematic beats about choosing her own path work quite as well if her sole motivation to return to Japan at the end of DGS2 os for Ryuunosuke. Like, yes, she chooses to follow him over Kazuma, that's something, but she's still just choosing to follow another character, when she was previously set up in Blossoming Attorney to be capable of standing on her own if the law only allowed it! I think i would have liked it more if it was at least implied that she returned to Japan to help Ryuunosuke AND start to try to begin her own legal career.
Otherwise, I think her ending's uncomfortably similar to the midpoint in her arc for the ending of Unspeakable Story. Albeit indirectly, she's once again returning to Japan upon her father's request, and I think that could have been avoided a little if her motivations for wanting to return were established as being outside of what other characters want, because that is her arc!
Favourite friendship:
Kazuma and Susato. Everything they do with those two is so interesting to me, and I love writing about it. It's so interesting how core Kazuma is to Susato, but how also she can't mean as much to him, because he only met her properly after he's already decided his mission. But she still means a lot to him, and I just, augh. I love the tragedy.

I know many jikookers like to think that JK is the one who gives a dominating vibe between jikook, but I don't know, it does not seem like that to me, at least not all the time. I can't be sure but JM screams more dominating (in a good way) than JK. Yes, JM likes to get pampered and be scolded by JK, but there are many instances where JM will just look at JK (more like telepathic convo between them) and the latter will melt or do whatever JM wants.
some examples that easily come to mind are the vminkook LA live (where JM cast JK a meaningful look and scolded/called JK when JK went looking for food in the room) and their moments in muster sowozoo 2021 (especially in day 2).
I think when it comes to some decisions and big changes, JK lets JM take the reins in their relationship more often, too. Of course, JK's input is also important, but it seems to me like JK trusts JM more with these things based on their dynamics. in bed......, well, I think they may be switching it up. 💀
JM just has that insane duality, but it baffles me how others just box him to always be soft and submissive when he can be (very) dominating and assertive too. Anyways, as long as jikook love, communicate, and respect each other then it wouldn't really matter who is more dominating or what. ✌️
I talk here about how Jimin clearly calls the shots in the relationship
There is sooooooooooooo many compilations of Jimin large but in charge moments. So I won't reshare them. Instead I will show this popular-ish moment.
V is touching all over JK like he's want to do. That's not new. JK is used to it, Jimin is used to it and Jikookers are definitely used to it. Jimin could see that in his periphery but that didn't bother him. It wasn't until JK started touching V that Jimin was like; "umm....whatchu doing?" And JK takes his hand off immediately. And that wasn't all, he then straightnes up so V's hand falls off his back.
JK saw his man had noticed and so he acted correctly. Like you said anon, Jimin is the boss. Anyone saying otherwise hasn't been paying attention. In the bedroom though, that seems to be a whole different story.
Edit: this is also another moment where JK was being difficult. He wanted to be on Jimin's team but Jimin made him pick Vhope's team. The way he snapped at him though 🤭

First things first, almost all my art is original character art unless stated otherwise!
That being said, I'm actually fine with people projecting and tagging blorbos and ships on them, especially the 'Detention' piece.

🤔🤔 I don't think so, I either get the vibe right away or I don't. I can get a better understanding of why people ship them, but that won't make me ship them

uuuhhh yukishura maybe? even years back people were pointing out the age difference and I know, I know, but their dynamic is still nice even if I probably don't ship them like that anymore. xuexiao isn't from "the past" and it's been cancel worthy from the start lmao
What is your favorite crack ship?
I don't have crack ships, I'm too canon obsessed
What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?
Might be louis/lestat, I only read the books a few years ago and I had to do so much archeology for them!
What do most of your ships usually have in common?
Time to call myself out 💁♀️ I like more than one type of dynamic, but there are some elements that a lot of my ships have in common if I put them side by side: it's the "whatever souls are made of, yours and mine are the same (sometimes derogatory)" type of dynamic. I love characters that are complicated and think they're unlovable until they find someone that's Kind Of Like Them. It's even better when on the surface they seem very different, but they can tell they're the same. And the reaction of the two might be to be wary of each other, to antagonize each other, to clown each other, to take refuge in each other. Could be the premise of good enemies to lovers ships, but I usually like lower stakes. ginhiji (gintaka also), buckynat, wenzhou, heihua etc different flavors but I think they have this common thread
I haven't found something clear in common about ships that don't fit the above

There are romance tropes I dislike, fandom tropes I dislike, maybe I'm too tired to think of things that annoy me right now even though there are many

Angel The Series. Obviously.
bless you for asking 🌹 i finished it yesterday and the opinions are Brewing
my favorite female character: Cordelia. I grew so, so very attached to her during my watch - I always liked her a lot, but I wasn't hugely invested in her in BTVS either. Here, though? Favorite. Which made season four and five all the more frustrating at times, especially given what we know of the behind the scenes stuff with CC and JW T_T. But yeah, I love Cordelia. She's a fun foil for a character like Angel, and her journey with the visions - and the fact that she didn't want to give them up - was really enjoyable for me
my favorite male character: At the risk of sounding obvious, Angel? I keep trying to articulate the why of it, and it comes down to just the fact that I just... like him.
Wesley from season 3 on comes very close, but in general, I tend to root for Angel more. The biggest indicator of my liking for Angel was that the second Spike came onto the scene, I was hissing like a cat like "ok vampire with a soul is ANGEL'S THING"
my favorite book/season/etc: I find it hard to choose between 2 and 3 atm. 2 had Angel's little dark spiral, which I found very fun, and season 3 had the whole "the father kills the son" arc, which was the most invested I ever was in this show
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): season 5 is fresher in my mind, so I'm going to say episode 12 of season 5, because that one has Cordelia in it - and is, thankfully, a nice send-off for her, though I'll forever be bitter she couldn't be around for the whole season (It might have made me less resentful of Spike's general presence, tho I did enjoy him regardless)
my favorite cast member: Idk much about them as people, but I'm going to say Alexis Denisof kILLED as unshaven miserable Wesley, and I was very impressed with him
my favorite ship: I hesitate between Angel x Cordelia and Wesley x Lilah. Angel x Cordy took me by surprise - I'm a diehard Bangel, and before watching ATS, the knowledge that Angel x Cordy became a thing made me a hater already. But I was surprised by how their friendship grew, and the Ship was Awakened in me when Angel was obviously deeply upset that Cordelia was still mad at him in season 2.
That being said, I also think I'd have been satisfied with Angel x Cordy without the romantic element, as long as they kept the close friends/warriors for good aspect. It's the kind of ship that I feel could stay friends (unlike, say, Bangel, to refer to Spike's little 'You'll never be friends' speech", which I know you're familiar with xD), and I do like my ships with a bit more bite, no pun intended. And Wesley x Lilah was a fucking delight. Didn't see it coming, enjoyed every second of it, right down to the corpse head chopping.
OH, I also enjoyed Lindsey x Darla for what it was. Lindsey in general was a fav of mine - he's just neat!
a character I’d die defending: Mmmm. No answer springs to mind, but I will say, I found myself kind of protective of Harmony in season 5 - I know she's a soulless little demon, but like, be nice to her (the fact that Spike was so dismissive of her got under my skin like BRO where's that soul of yours now)
a character I just can’t sympathize with: I desperately want to say Andrew, but we barely saw him, and that's mostly my BTVS feelings bleeding over. I'm sure there are answers among the villains, but nobody comes to mind.
a character I grew to love: Definitely Wesley. I was never too keen on him, but then, gosh. His dark side is just FASCINATING and I love him to bits.
my anti otp: unfortunately i can't say sp*ffy for ATS xD but otherwise, i don't think there's any ship on Angel I outright hate. Though Connor x Cordelia was definitely unpleasant, I don't really count it as a ship. I guess.... Angel x Nina didn't do much for me? But we barely saw them together, so, it's hard to muster any anti otp hatred. Fred x Wesley didn't do much for me (I always side-eyed them because from the start, I was convinced it would mean nothing good for Gunn), but without Fred x Wesley, you don't get Wesley x Illyria, which was the highlight of my late season 5 viewing 💙

I tried the A3! Ship chart except my brain is always on overdrive so I don't know what's going on. Everything here is under aspec lens so nothing is romantic unless stated otherwise.
Detailed explanation under the cut.
This basically means that they have a label on their relationship but they're alterous. I think BanTsumu are boyfriends and possibly married in the future. To be honest, I don't really care what their labels is but I think they're the type to put a name on their relationship.
Established:
BanTsumu is my ultimate OTP, I just like the peaceful vibes they give. Tsumugi becomes a lot more playful when he's around Banri and Banri is uncharacteristically always tied around Tsumu's little finger. They're polar opposites but they find comfort in each other like how Banri helped calm Tsumugi down with a cup of coffee when he was nervous and how Tsumugi makes Banri feel safe enough to release his worries. As an aspec mf their dynamic feeds my soul!
Romantic:
1. SakyoIzu: they're not really my top choice but if I'm gonna ship them, I think they would be romantic.
2. TaiYuki: Taichi definitely has the fattest crush on Yuki and I think once he realizes it, he's gonna want something more out of it.
3. TsumuHaru: Tsumugi and Haruto just scratch an itch in my head😔 I think they're the type of couple who tease each other endlessly, act like they're done with each other's antics, and they constantly bicker but at the end of the day, they understand each other most.
OTP:
1. ChikaIzu: MY ALTEROUS BELLS 🫶 RING SO HARD FOR THESE TWO. They are family and they would do anything for each other. They're not shy to reach out when the other needs help, they make promises with each other, they have a playful dynamic, they bond with each other even in the most mundane settings... MY BRAIN JUST HURTS WHEN I THINK OF THEM because I want what they have!!!
2. AzuTasu: Tasuku is just so down bad for Azuma, man. LIKE WHAT EVEN IS THE ENTIRETY OF NOCTURNALITY? Not only that, Tasuku is DENSE but for some reason, he's always one step ahead of comforting Azuma. Also, why does he call everyone by their last name EXCEPT AZUMA 😭 LIKE WHAT THE HELL? Don't even get me started with Azuma's semi playful flirting and Tasuku just responds in the most sincere way THEN AZU GETS ALL FLUSTERED? Whenever these two interact, I just want someone to punch me.
3. HisoIta: I saw this ship one day, thought about it for 10 minutes, and hopped in the ship. I love the idea of spoiler x spoiled. Itaru is SO good at spoiling people and Hisoka is like a cat that needs to be spoiled rotten. Hisoka is also the type of person who will let you do your thing but he'll try to help you in his own terms when he feels like you need help. I like that cause I think Itaru likes his own space and pace so Hisoka is perfect for that!!
4. ME AND KASUMI : look, I know her wife died and I'm sorry but like... If the triplets need a stepmom just hook me up.

1. JuTen: I just love the mutual respect they have for each other 🛐
2. HisoSaku: TWO ANGELS TOGETHER IS NEVER THE WRONG MOVE!!! Hisoka has this vibe that he's always carrying something heavy and I think whenever he's around Sakuya, he relaxes and he likes watching over how pure Sakuya is about everything. I think if Sakuya asks Hisoka for a favor, he would skip his sleep just to fulfill it.
3. BanSaku: THESE TWO JUST.... *SQUISH* I have no words except AHHHHHHH KEEP LOOKING OUT FOR EACH OTHER!!!
4. TenSaku: Tenma's crush on Sakuya in Act 1 never died on me. Sakuya's acting was acknowledged to not be the best at that time but he just saw how pure and passionate Sakuya is for acting so he felt inspired. HE TALKED TO HIM TO RESPECTFULLY TOO LIKE 🙉🙉 Y'all make me crazy.
5. CitoTsuzu: Citron please keep looking after our playwright boy. He may complain all the time but he looks up to you so much and I know you adore him for all he is.

1. Fuyupoly: Fuyu is so unserious 💀 I know they're supposed to be the mature group but I swear I was never fully sold on that idea. I think they'd all live together with their shenanigans until they die.
2. CitoIzuChika: This is kinda complicated but like Citron and Izumi are bros, super tight bros, they always go out together and hang out— everyone is convinced they are together. Chikage and Izumi are the same but their dynamic is more serious than the crackhead energy CitoIzu gives. At one point, they just started going on dates together and now they have this giant queerplatonic poly/polybromantic thing going on.

They are besties who enable each other's bad ideas 😍 and I love it. My favorite genre is dumbasses being dumbasses.

Favorite thing about them: Probably the duality of his character and how neither side, the battle hungry abyss warrior and the caring and loving brother, is a lie. It makes him pretty complex, but I love that for my favorites, people really can have different conflicting sides to them like this.
Least favorite thing about them: What is he wearing. No, seriously. What is he wearing.
Favorite line: "Comrade. Make sure you keep training too. Otherwise, who will be left to fight me to the death when the world lies defeated at my feet?". God, he's impossible. I'm very deliberately ignoring the narrative looming in the background of that one in favor of enjoying the single track mind he has.
brOTP: It's the same answer as with Zhongli, I really enjoy(ed) their friendship. I think they should make up. I will force them to make up.
OTP: Chilumi considering I am not immune to "hey girlie" but generally the Traveler, so Chilaether too. There's something about that specific flavor of "enemies to friends to lovers except, technically speaking, we never stopped being enemies". His story quest and teapot lines have just hammered it in further, considering how much he trusts the Traveler.
nOTP: Again like with Zhongli, there are no ships I particularly hate, only a lot I'm indifferent towards or kind of don't feel the chemistry for.
Random headcanon: We know he likes fishing, but he probably also enjoys hunting, especially if he's hunting something dangerous. What I'm saying is should be ever befriend Xiangling (and it's only a matter of time if you leave that up to me) she'll suddenly start serving geovishap dumplings and you won't have to look very far to find out how she got the meat.
Unpopular opinion: This man is not a flirty fuckboy. That right there is an entire virgin.
Song i associate with them: One of them, probably. More seriously, probably the tune that played during the cutscene in his story quest - yeah you won't be getting the most original answers to that question from me.

Second text post in a row before I go to my parents' just to say Laura and I finally finally finally finished Great Men Academy this afternoon, and !!!! WHAT A SHOW. I tried to type out a whole thing here but I'm getting tangled up in my own words but basically to ME it felt like pure unadulterated wish fulfillment around gender stuff, being loved and seen and accepted regardless of the shape/perceived gender of your body, in a way I def wasn't prepared for a show to just nail into so richly and joyfully.
SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT
Like my god I can't think of a better end than Tangmo/trans girl!Love? Like it IS important that Love can try again next year to wish for the body she wants because it wouldn't be hopeful otherwise, but the potential of Love and Tangmo having a year of dating where Tangmo legitimately just loves and sees the person inside any body she has and can't be shaken by any sex (or gender!) changes to come is 🧑🍳👌👌👌
But I also have many other ships I wanted to list very quickly!!!
Tangmo/Tangmo
Huge bummer that VR!Tangmo didn't get to spend more time hanging out with his favorite person!! I was heartbroken for him!! "Hey there, handsome" is how my blorbos talk to each other in fanfiction, I mean cmon, and all VR!mo wanted was to stay by Tangmo's side. Not win the race or team up for pranks or anything else, he just wanted to sit with him and vibe. That is ship fodder if I ever saw it!
Vier/Tangmo
This dynamic is ship catnip for me. If the canon wasn't so good I would be otping with all my heart and soul. Not going to start adding words but seriously some of the most emotionally impactful moments of the story for ME revolve around them and I have friends I want to rec the show to on the strength of their relationship ldkfjskldsd can you imagine. It's the Love show and here I am off in a Viermo corner.
Vier/Nuclear
Now the first moment I really shipped this was when Nuclear told Vier he was disappointed in him. I was like "You're not angry you're just disappointed? D-daddy kink?" BECAUSE the one thing I didn't love in the whole show was trying to wrap Vier's annoying dad up in a bow with the rest of the happy endings, I would much prefer Vier get some real space from his dad, find his identity outside his dad, and find his daddy outside his dad in a pink-haired junior who used to worship him.
But also esp w/ trans girl Vier (ESP w/ happily fat trans girl Vier) via @syzyg3tic's headcanons and the way Nuclear is w/ the ladies, oh man, please let us manifest this in their future

The best end for the two of them honestly. Vier wished to be over Rose but wouldn't it be really in keeping with the gender unicorn's style of doing stuff to not actually CHANGE his underlying emotions but just give Vier some time and space to be normal around Rose until they both fully self-actualize genderly, and the relationship between them suddenly looks refreshed and untread.

I stand by the belief that Vier should help Nanai parent his baby. I came to this belief before I knew the full deal about Vier's father and now that I do know that deal I can't think of anything more suitable or joyfully redemptive for both of them, they are MFEO frankly

what's your favorite era (appearance, characterization, etc.) of adam warlock? you're like the #1 fan of adam warlock 😍👌
This is no joke anon I'm incapable of being normal about Him.
My favorite comic Ever of All Time is the classic 70's Warlock by Jim Starlin!!! What is there to say about it even it's simply THE quintessential Adam Warlock story and I think everyone should read it :^) it has it all... unavoidable tragedy, evil alter ego, martyrdom, blatant anti-christian allegory, catholic guilt, suicide, existentialism, nihilism, funky visuals that make it obvious it's the 70's and everyone's on drugs, the wizard of oz, clowns, shark in space, Adam/Soul Gem OTP, first appearance of The Magus, Adam's first time meeting Pip/Gamora/Thanos, Thanos killing Adam, Adam killing Thanos, Adam and Thanos kissing in a tree (ok I made this last one up) etc.
Also Adam's perfectly coiffed hair + sideboob/bootyshorts look goes hard as hell I refuse to hear otherwise.
My other fave looks <3 Counter-Earth + Infinity Gauntlet/Infinity Watch/Infinity Crusade
I like Roy Thomas/Mike Friedrich's baby Warlock, he's cute, but Jim Starlin's Adam is the most specialest boy in the whole universe I LOOOOVE HIM with my whole heart and everything Starlin has written with Adam and/or Thanos is near and dear to me.
I think there's at least something to like about every "era", I love the Magus, I love the Goddess, Adam's big queer gender self-discovery adventure is definitely a highlight, I LOVE the Infinity Watch... I am admittedly a bit of a Jim Starlin purist though, Adam (and Thanos) written by other people always just feels a bit off and ranges from ''bad'' to ''pretty good'' but I'm fond of Annihilation/GOTG Adam by DnA too.
Definitely though my BIG FAVE era besides Warlock is the combined last two trilogies by Starlin, Thanos Annual + Infinity Revelation/Relativity/Finale & Infinity Siblings/Conflict/Ending + Infinity Entity + Thanos vs Hulk + GOTG: Mother Entropy. I know that's a lot but it counts as one in my head lol.
Best comics ever actually, I was already obsessed with Adam and Thanos beforehand but these really irreversibly rewired my brain so there's no hope for me anymore. For context you must understand that by the time these books started rolling out Starlin hadn't written for Marvel in a decade with no sign of returning so I lost my fucking shit when they were announced lmao. I had already accepted that we wouldn't get any proper sendoff/conclusion to Thanos and Adam's character arcs after some 40 years of slowburn because that's just the nature of comics but!! WE DID!!! Starlin came back and gave them an actual ending, he tied up his version of these characters with a nice little bow, while it's obviously still left open for other writers it frankly doesn't really matter to me what anyone else does with them going forward because I'm satisfied with the story that's already (almost) entirely contained within Starlin's work. Not that I won't still complain if they're terribly ooc but that's not My Canon, you know.
Like. I would sit here with my tinfoil hat on and conspiracy theory board out connecting the dots and yelling about the growth between Adam and Thanos and the overarching themes/motifs... Just endlessly speculating on how this tentative friendship of theirs would even work since we hadn't actually gotten to see it in action since they Officially became Friends™ in the very last issue Starlin wrote before leaving Marvel for 10 years and no other writer wanted to touch them. Big thoughts about how it's all REALLY about loneliness and love and TRUST and redemption, how Thanos is desperately in love with completely obsessed with Adam, how Adam in many ways mirrors Mistress Death, how perpetually aloof Thanos learns to genuinely and wholeheartedly trust in Adam and how opening himself up to the living (Adam/Eros/Gamora/Pip) gives his life true meaning, how Adam and Thanos literally cannot exist without each other or they'll self destruct... THEN my guy my dude my very bestest pal Jimbo strolled in and casually validated all my inside brain thoughts by further expanding on the pre-established themes and making all that more explicitly canon and I just had to grin and bear it and pretend I'm normal. like???? HELLO????? IT FEELS SOOOOO GOOD TO BE RIGHT ABOUT LITERALLY EVERYTHING
The juxtaposition between these books and his older work (Warlock in particular) is actually so satisfying to me too. The numerous callbacks, echoes of past storylines, the role reversals... I know some people hate how repetitive Starlin's storylines can be but I love the consistency, this infinite loop of death/rebirth that Adam and Thanos are stuck in narratively really highlights how they change (or don't change) over time, it works perfectly for them both in text and metatextually. The becoming God and blowing up the universe for the 50th time doesn't matter it's about the friend(s) we made along the way.
Anyway. I've actually grown to really like Adam's outfit in these books too, it's very old school but I'm into that... a glorious return to pointy shoulders <3 (he matches with Thanos hehehehe)
