* Legend of Shen Li is almost universally liked. I don't know that I encountered a real hater. Don't turn that into sky high expectations that can't be met, though. It's simply a solid xanxia romance with a very strong landing - 1 full length episode dedicated to the happy ending, instead of the xanxia standard 1 minute. The most high god in the universe x demon general who is engaged to heaven's notorious playboy that's terrified of her. and who is temporarily a chicken. (just go with it) The main couple have chemistry & are very capable actors. Rarely do I make it thru a xanxia without ever being consumed with rage at some awful thing the plot has one of the main couple perpetrate on the other... but this one passed! The main actress is convincing as an immortal warrior.

* Blossoms in Adversity is NOT universally liked, tbh it got almost no traction on tumblr. But despite all its flaws I found myself watching it eagerly. I am a sucker for historical costume dramas with feminist themes - if you enjoyed Dream of Splendor, this one might appeal. After all the men in the family are exiled and they are stripped of their noble status, the main wives, concubines, children, and servants of a large official's household have to figure out a way to survive on their own. Without the guidance (and yoke) of men. The strength of the drama is that it isn't easy - these women are not all kind & smart & selfless. They're complicated people and a product of their environment. But watching them slowly come together was so satisfying, and how all the women begin to explore an identity beyond the strict roles they held in that manor. It's so direct about how much power men had over their wives in that era and what that means for these women. The main otp will appeal if you like ships of 2 mature adults who have their own goals and respect each other as equals, who are supportive but don't step on each other's independence. The FL's practicality was so pleasing to me. It just dropped it's final episodes via Express.

* The Spirealm available legally now on Viki, if your tastes run to censored gay romance. And if you like mystery/ horror and like fiction that asks, what is reality (and does the definition of 'real' matter). Like in korean bl Love for Love's Sake, the protagonist enters a game world and ends up caring about that world. (unlike LFLS, a distinct lack of kissing with tongue)

* In Blossom - Chinese het web novel vibes just exploding onto the screen. Childhood sweathearts torn apart years ago, now he's a rich noble while she's poor but he still wants to marry her as promised. (She is less sure about this.... then she gets her body swapped by this crazy chick who really REALLY wants to marry the ML. who, ooops gets murdered on their wedding night.) So now FL is in crazy chick's body and the #1 suspect for her gruesome murder is ML, that childhood sweetheart who showed up out of the blue to propose. and happens to be the top candidate in running to marry the crown princess 🤔🤔🤔 . She thinks he (tried to) kill her. He thinks she's dead and hates the lady she's stuck impersonating. Spoiler: they fall in love.

* Amidst a Snowstorm of Love - Slice of life soft cdrama, if you like that kind of thing. Developing relationship for like 30 episodes about 2 professional snooker players. Relaxing vibes, sweet romance. They're both kind, talented, and capable. They're good for each other and really humanly awkward about starting a relationship. You don't watch this kinda drama for dramatic tension, you just chill with it and wind down after a hard day. It's baked-in that they'll get married at the end.

Random Headcanon: One time I considered the thought of little!Thor being exceptionally friendly with his kitchen staff servants, and because he's a strong little guy, he'd pick up giant barrels 3x his size and lug them around just because he wants to be helpful. And he'd do it with or without the prize of getting snuck goodies (though he would definitely prefer the goodies, were it up to him.)

Unpopular Opinion: I'm not sure if this counts as an unpopular opinion exactly, but I do always find it interesting that in the Frozen Vault Scene in Thor (2011), what the cinematography and editors show us that sets Thor off is seeing the dead einherjar...

And I'd actually say that this triggers his anger more than the interruption of his crowning ceremony.

So with that in mind, I'm not actually sure that (most of) his rage regarding the situation was about the coronation at all, in that case. At least, not in comparison to the fear he states (semi-subtextually) about being strong enough to maintain Asgard's borders were. ("They know you are vulnerable.")

He actually seems to only be upset about the coronation AFTER Odin makes it very clear he's decided to change his mind and rescind the crown from him entirely ... which only further fuels the point that Thor isn't ready. (aka: the one thing Thor is keenly aware of, scared of, and is scared the Frost Giants also know.) Which, you know, he's not at that point in time, but I don't see a lot of people talk about the details of that particular inciting incident all that much.

(honestly the ENTIRE text and subtext of the frozen vault scene absolutely FASCINATES ME so maybe I'll do a deep dive on it one day idk)

"I have looked the other way for far too long. It's time for you to move on from playing around."

Tadashi's hands clenched as he watched Ainosuke tremble slightly in front of them while the flames of the incinerator died down. He couldn't see the other boy's face, but he didn't need to: they'd been friends for so long that he knew just how Ainosuke was feeling. Anger. Frustration. Disappointment.

He didn't disagree with the master, but there had to have been a better way of handling this. This was too abrupt, too cruel. Before he could even consider what he was doing, his lips were already moving.

"Aiichiro-sama—"

"Do you have any complaints, Tadashi?"

The sharp, piercing gaze of the older man shifted, meeting his eyes squarely, and Tadashi felt the urge to take a step back and hunch his shoulders. If he did that, though, Aiichiro would admonish him for poor behavior again, so he forced himself to continue to stand upright, his posture unwavering, as his eyes began to lower.

"No. I—"

Even though Ainosuke’s training had been far stricter than his own, Tadashi spotted the slight flinch as he began to answer the master. The words were on the tip of his tongue, drilled into him by his employer as part of his preparations for becoming his secretary, but he couldn’t force them off. Ainosuke was incredibly precocious, but in other ways, he was also still a child. Most of what Tadashi knew about Kaoru and Kojiro came from listening to Ainosuke talk about them, as well as the short glimpses he caught when he would pick Ainosuke up, but if he abandoned the other boy now… what would he have left? Now that Aiichiro had made this decision, it seemed unlikely that Ainosuke would ever be allowed to see either of them again. If Tadashi failed to support him here…

Or was he being too presumptuous? They’d been growing more distant lately as Ainosuke spent time with his new friends and Tadashi took on extra lessons for his new role, but they were still friends. Or, at least, Tadashi thought so. He’d known from the beginning that their own relationship was something that Ainosuke’s family wouldn’t approve of, but he’d reached out anyways. If he’d intended to end things just because they became difficult, he shouldn’t have done that in the first place.

Aiichiro was still staring at him, his eyes blazing, but Tadashi forced himself to look back up, his back straightening slightly.

“I am very sorry, Aiichiro-sama, but I don’t agree with how you are handling this,” he replied, his voice soft but steady. “I agree with your sentiments and concerns, but if you were to show a little empathy here…”

“A Shindo has no need of empathy.”

Ainosuke had turned around to watch the two of them, his eyes widening slightly—nobody talked back to his father—and somehow, that heartened Tadashi, encouraging him to continue just as he was about to back down.

“In outside relations, perhaps. But this is your son. And isn’t it better to persuade people to follow you willingly rather than to use force? Even if it’s by telling them a lie, with the former, you gain loyalty. With the latter, you end up with people who will bow down to the first tyrant who terrifies them even more.”

“A servant, spouting political theory? What do you think you know?” Aiichiro laughed derisively, but Tadashi sensed that there was just the slightest crack in his confidence as he repeated lessons that had been hammered into Ainosuke. Tadashi knew better than to try to press his advantage, though: if the master felt that he had been outplayed and forced onto the defensive by a mere servant, far more than Tadashi’s own livelihood was at risk. Even for Ainosuke, he wouldn’t let his parents be tossed out into the street.

“I know that you and your sisters care deeply for Ainosuke-san’s future. And I understand that in order to protect that, Ainosuke-san must quit skateboarding: while it can be played off as childish folly when he was younger, to continue to do so as an adult is unacceptable for one who will be in the public eye. I’m sure that he understands that as well.”

Tadashi risked a quick glance at Ainosuke, who nodded reluctantly.

“But since he is no longer a child, he can be spoken to rationally in order to convince him to give it up himself rather than simply taking it away unilaterally. That would be more likely to result in a favorable outcome… isn’t that right, sir?”

With that, Tadashi lowered his eyes again.

“I sincerely apologize for my impudence.”

The silence stretched out between the three of them as they awaited Aiichiro’s judgment. For a moment, Tadashi was afraid that he’d gone too far: he’d tried to pick his words carefully, but they didn’t come as naturally to him as they did to Ainosuke. His parents were growing too old to look for new jobs, even if any family dared to defy the Shindos by hiring their cast-offs. And personal assistants were a dime a dozen: while Tadashi was confident in his abilities, his income wouldn’t be able to support the three of them. If he had agreed to go to university instead and found a more traditional job… but it was too late for regrets.

Then, the older man clicked his tongue before turning away.

“That will be all. Make sure that you finish packing your suitcases by this evening, Ainosuke. Your flight leaves tomorrow morning.”

“Yes, Father.”

“And I will expect you in my office in thirty minutes.”

“I understand, sir.”

Aiichiro began to walk away, and after he’d disappeared behind the rose bushes, Tadashi heard something rustle behind him. As a slightly sweaty hand slid into his own, he glanced back at Ainosuke, meeting grateful, red eyes.

“Thank you, Tadashi.”

The words were barely a whisper, and Tadashi’s heart clenched as he shook his head.

“You have nothing to thank me for.”

Kadira had attempted to be quiet, the movement of the sheets gave her away as she watched the man before her lift his gaze from undressing to look at her. Kadira had no idea what sort of sight she made, the sheets tangled about her because they retained heat more than she sought modesty. In contrast the knight commander looked at the count openly and boldly in her curiosity, knowing he would laugh at any feigned innocence.

His gaze was amused, the corner of his almond shaped eyes crinkled just faintly as lips lifted just enough for her to see his dimples. "They say that a demonstration such as this has monetary value behind it." His tone was not his scandalous lift, but something softer and akin to smoke, "Of course 'they' meaning me before and during a performance by ecdysiast exhibiting their craft."

"Oh, but there's a difference between a stripper and you," Kadira's eyes traveled down his form. Daeran was tall and lean, shoulders just wide enough for his said height. He reminded her of a silken rope, supple and graceful in form if not so rough and defined as whipcord. "You're getting dressed."

Daeran's smile grew wide as he approached her. He wore a stocking, just single stocking. Kadee had caught him before he could slip on its twin. The fine gray hose was tight against his leg, catching the shape of his calf and the muscles of his slim thigh. The material was held by a garter made of a darker gray wool, embroidered with black silk, and a silver buckle to keep the stocking up.

The count sat down on the edge of the mattress, easing onto the softness. Still silent, two of his fingertips caught her chin and tilted her head back to meet his gaze. "Am I getting dressed?" He asked softly.

Kadira swallowed, her hand reaching out from the warmth of her linen sheets to trace over the edge of his garter. "Well, maybe just the other stocking? Then you could come back to bed to get warm before you finish dressing.” As she replied, the tips of her fingers slid to his knee, her claw like nails careful not to catch on the fabric.

The effect did wonders against the cool air in making Daeran hard.

"Perhaps you could assist in the matter, then" The huskiness in Daeran's voice made it clear it was not a question, "Your fingers are very clever after all, very dexterous. I could not even trust my best house servant with those buckles, but for you? I might."

With that little amount of coaxing, Kadee slid from the sheets entirely to kneel before him. Her hands were not shaky as she slid the linen over his foot and calf. Her breath did not catch as she carefully clasped the silver buckle firmly around the muscle of his thigh.

And soon the lost warmth of the sheets were replaced by the warmth of Daeran's skin and lips.

history note! men wore stockings, hosiery, and garters up until the mid 20th century regularly, so Daeran isn’t quite pushing the gender norms. sort of.

"They were so cruel with this opening and I love it.

Am I a bit peeved over the family tree rewrite? A little, I admit.

Cassandra should be younger than the twins and we're missing both Vesper and Ludwig.

Also Percy being too depressed to appreciate Vex looking like that is not as funny as the memes about it are, but is it still pretty funny.

Keyleth being her usual Disney Princess self is lovely! But her reaction to Vax's greeting is annoying, he has food in his mouth Keyleth, what did you expect? Vax singing good morning? Come on, girl, give him a break lmao.

Then Grog ruining Vax's day before he even has breakfast is such a brother thing to do. A+ sibling representation there.

Then Allura!! The door!! Vax getting revenge!! Scanlan flirting with Pike!! This scene is so good, poor Percy trying to save face with an unimpressed Allura always cracks me up.

Then the dinner!

There's a slight animation error that has Vax looking a little depry when they first arrive, but the curtsey more than makes up for it - also, he looks so pretty!

("No thoughts, just pretty boy" is the biggest mood of the season.)

Also petition for Vax to have a ponytail in season 3 if we don't get the beads and braids. So much nicer than whatever he has going on normally.

Also everyone looks great here, Vex especially so. Hooo boy. Her and Percy having matching necklaces and chokers is so cute, I fucking love them.

Then we get to see Simon! Yes!

Then the scene where Delilah has Sylas charm Uriel to stop him from drawing suspicion on the pair and Whitestone?

Sylas touching the sovereign and nobody stopping him?

I do think he should have said "You don't need to do that, Friend." rather than just "You don't need to do that.", but maybe that's just me?

Also the tension when Delilah finally addresses Percy, everyone panicking - thankfully Vex is there, they'd be lost without her sometimes.

Syals saying "Charmed" like that, though, and right after charming Uriel? Perfect. Beautiful. Amazing.

The beads joke is a bit… eh.

When Delilah tells her little story in a passive aggressive attack on Percy? Percy's reaction?

The Briarwoods feigning offence as they leave? They know.

I bet Delilah's things had some sort-of alarm spell on them.

There's another animation error in this scene - as the scene opens we see a servant giving Sylas dessert, but as the Briarwoods leave he has his dinner in front of him again.

Then of course, Vax having his attention stolen by the fire - he had plenty of time, surely.

Then we see the Briarwoods' walking past the mirror to their room and Syals has no reflection while Delilah does? Finally confirming that Delilah wasn't a Vampire while Sylas is one? Because that did confuse people during the campaign. Love it.

And the confrontation! Vax panic-flirting! Then, foolishly, running into the couple instead of to the side and away???

That fucking staredown???

Percy telling the others about what happened to his family, the group rushing to help Vax.

Sylas caressing Vax's face and talking about him being curious while Delilah watches from the bed, the vibes suggesting so many different possibilities???

The ensuing fight, Delilah's spell hitting Pike in the back and looking like when Pike hit her back off the wall in Episode 2???

In a way, he's a typical character found in Disney and other fairy tale films: the monarch's uptight servant who tries in vain to keep everything in order, much like Beauty and the Beast's Cogsworth, The Lion King's Zazu, or Lionel in the 1997 Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella. But the fact that he's Caribbean and a lively calypso musician adds a fun, fresh twist to that type of character. Indeed, he was originally planned to be a standard British majordomo, but then Howard Ashman suggested the more creative choice of making him Caribbean and letting him sing calypso, and his instincts turned out to be very right!

Least favorite thing about them: Well, he starts out as a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, siding with King Triton's strictness and not listening to Ariel any more than her father does. Though I don't blame him, since Triton is the king and Sebastian is his servant; besides, he also wants what's best for Ariel, and he comes around beautifully when he realizes just how much the human world and Prince Eric mean to her, foreshadowing Triton's coming around in the end.

Also, one sentiment in "Kiss the Girl" is outdated: the idea that kissing a girl is a good way to find out if she likes you back or not. Of course Sebastian knows that Ariel wants to be kissed, but in general, that's not the best advice.

For those who don't know, Noct and Ardyn are physically de-aged into children (around 7 and 10 years old) by a daemon and are trapped on their own in Cleigne. They have to work together to travel across the country to Hammerhead, where Noct's friends are, but, of course, there are a few hiccups along the way. Enemies-to-friends, Ardyn!redemption, an adventure fic with some cute things, some angsty things and some scary things. MUCH FRIENDSHIP. It now has a playlist on spotify which just makes me feel things instead of write things lmao. I love this fic okay shhhhhhhhh. 2. [title redacted] (FFXV) -- a hurt!Noct body horror fic. After a daemon hunt goes wrong, and after having a strange sudden fever, Noctis begins to descend into “madness”. Nightmares, paranoia, hallucinations, the lot. His friends are majorly concerned about his mental state, but Noctis is convinced there's something more to it. If this fic had a soundtrack it’d be like all synthwave and shit, and yes of course that’s an important detail lmaooo 3. nemo (FFXV) -- daemonised-imperial-weapon!Noct. Pre-game, canon divergence and all that. Noctis has been transformed and brainwashed into killing for the empire, he's seen as a feral beast and a mindless killing machine, Ardyn is a little too obsessed with him, and there's a secret plot to rescue and bring Noctis back home. 4. Conceal (working title) (FFXV) -- a simple one-shot of bros taking care of Noctis, who has been poisoned and has a fever, basically because I wanted more warm and concerned Gladio lmao. Basically just a caretaking fic. 5. What the Shadows Hide (working title) (Merlin) -- an assassin is loose in Camelot and Arthur has been cursed to lose each of his senses one by one. Featuring a lot of angst on Arthur's part as he struggles to cope with becoming far too physically vulnerable for his liking, and awesome-servant!Merlin who tries his best to help. 6. untitled Merlin/Mordred (Merlin) -- listen Merthur is my otp, and this fic is just in the planning/daydreaming stages, but I am SO EMOTIONALLY INVESTED in this fic idea for some reason and I just need to acknowledge that it exists okay, basically S5 AU where Merlin decides to give Mordred a chance, tells Mordred about his fated role in Arthur's death, and then it's a long journey of becoming friends and then more, which Merlin struggles with because it feels like a betrayal to Arthur and Mordred is like STFU you’re dumb and we're both loyal to him. Anyway basically: good!Mordred, enemies-to friends-to lovers, secret relationship, two sneaky adorable sorcerers trying their best to protect their king and each other ANYWAY I think I'll stop there lol because we'll be here forever.
