Extremely interesting and delicious dynamic I didn't know I needed: Oscar and Ozpin being on good terms but that very bond means they are torturing each other without even MEANING TO.
Also Ren calling them both YOU TWO and being sweet and supportive of the both of them. Best boi after Oscar and Ozpin tbh. Ozpin being a de facto team member of JNPR makes me really happy, even if it's because of unfortunate circumstances.

Busy thinking about postcanon!Oz having his body seperated from Oscar by the gods after they deem his work and the state of the world adequate. Thinking about him riding the wave of relief and adrenalin for only so long before everything weighs down on him. Thinking about him becoming a recluse and holing up in whatever place they give him and never coming out, no matter who comes calling, thinking they'd all be better off without him, until eventually they do all give up. Thinking about Oscar being the exception, because while this kid (now young adult) did need space after the seperation to discover who he was now without his headmate, he's lived with Oz for most of his formative years and he's started to see the guy as a fill-in father figure and he doesn't want to lose him even though he spent so long thinking he did. Thinking about Oscar coming knocking every day, even when the blinds are drawn and Oz can't even force himself out of bed, sometimes bringing food or trying to get him to come out but mostly just sitting there with his back to the front door, talking about his day, the way he would with a dad.
Thinking about Oz finally opening the door one day and being tackled to the floor with a hug.

Ozpin & Oscar’s connection
I’ve always had this desire to talk about this topic for a while now but I never had the motivation or the proper thought process to get started but I’ve decided to try and make my love on this topic known and hoping I make sense while doing so.
Something I’ve always love seeing from Ozpin is the genuine amount of care he has towards Oscar, towards people in general but that’s a topic for a separate post. I wanna talk about Oz and his relationship with Oscar specifically.
Now I know there are many that don’t share my love of Dadpin, and that’s perfectly understandable.
But something that I will say that none of us can deny is that Ozpin does care for Oscar. He doesn’t and has never seen Oscar as some meat suit he can hijack whenever he wants, he knows that Oscar is just a kid, and he gets that this isn’t going to be an easy thing for him to adjust too.
From the get go Ozpin has always been incredibly understanding when it came to their shared connection and merging of their souls and of Oscar as a whole. And one of my many favorite instances of Ozpin showing that he understands that is the amount of times he tells Oscar he’s sorry.
Oz isn’t saying he’s sorry in a off handed casual way like “I’m sorry, please forgive me.” No, he’s genuinely sorry he’s putting Oscar through such hell. He doesn’t want Oscar to have to go through this, because he’s a child. Just like he himself also didn’t want to go through it either but neither of them had a choice. And he understands that and has stated as such.
Because he does, he does understand exactly what Oscar is going through, this isn’t something neither he nor Oscar nor the rest of the other collective of Oz’s wanted, including Ozma. He, Ozpin, himself has lived through this hell too, felt the exhaustion and fear this curse can cause so he knows and gets Oscar whenever the kid voices his fear and he offers him understanding and reassurance.
Because Ozpin, at his center is a nurturer, even without Ozma or the other collections of Oz’s, he loves humanity and wants to protect them. He has a soft spot for children and even if some don’t see him in a fatherly light towards anyone, the evidence is there in how he treats Oscar.
Whenever he speaks to Oscar it’s always in a soft tone, the only time he ever raises/raised his voice to Oscar is when he was in a state of panic when Oscar was fighting Hazel in Volume 5, and that’s not me overanalyzing something for my own Dadpin needs, you can hear the fear in Ozpin’s voice as it grows more panicked. But other then that Oz has always used a tone of voice that was soft and calm.
And whenever Oscar was at his most vulnerable Ozpin is there to steady Oscar and reassure him with a gentle voice that while things looked bleak, they were going to be okay.
I’ve seen plenty of people say that Oscar to Ozpin is merely just a meat suit and the best evidence against this is this
When Oscar is being visibly open with Ozpin, when this young fifteen year old expresses his genuine fear of not wanting their souls to merge, Oz gently and reassuringly says that he doesn’t want that either. And a man that genuinely doesn’t care about someone’s well being wouldn’t be bothered by this.
But Ozpin is.
Because he doesn’t, he doesn’t want that for Oscar, he doesn’t want any of the suffering that comes with being Ozma’s descendent to happen to Oscar. But he also heartbreakingly knows that none of them have a choice.
No matter what you chose to see their relationship as. Dadpin or no, none of us can deny that Oz does indeed care about Oscar. And it makes me that much more giddy to know that Oscar is finally realizing that too.

Hey, uh... just so you're aware, I'm... I'm pretty sure 'oshupin'... .. is the jnp ship name.. for oscar and ozpin... ... could be wrong, though, ... sorry.
oh really?? I thought it was the parental/pair name based on what I’d seen... like explicitly non-ship because no. (What does “jnp ship” mean?) The tag on tumblr seems platonic, I’ve mainly only seen it from @maripr , who uses the tag as a familial thing along with “oz family” so I didn’t realize!
But if there’s confusion around it I’ll just delete it, thanks for letting me know!

Ozpin and Oscar continue to be so father and son coded btw.
It's like what Ruby and Penny went through: the fear of not having agency and worth outside of their parent, but like turned up to a metaphysical nightmare and this time we actually see that the parent shares the fear of unintentionally consuming the child's life but LITERALLY.
Like it's so fucking funny how I as a child of my well meaning but flawed parents can relate to this, even when it's turned into a magical metaphor.
ADDENDUM: the fact that due to ozma's reincarnation this is basically a huge unintentional cycle really makes this metaphor even more on the nose. Sins of the fathers and all that.

So the rosegarden and ozglyn potentials are thru the roof now 👀 I can already see ozpin and oscar realizing their value as people thanks to glynda and ruby in particular, and all of their loved ones too. This last bit includes each other and I Need them to hug somehow before the series ends.
And It Will end. It Will continue to its ending. I'm now more hopeful and excited than ever.

It's incredibly hard to read Yu-Gi-Oh when I have to stop at every page bc Yugi and Yami Yugi's bromance makes me so goddamn emo.
However you wanna interpret their relationship, you can't tell me they're not literal soulmates.
Yami used to bet on his life a lot in the early manga because he thought he was Yugi. Another part of Yugi. Since meeting with him eyes to eyes and learning he has been betting on YUGI'S life all the while he's been incredibly ashamed of it and won't forgive anyone who threatens his aibou.
MEANWHILE Yugi has learned that the current villain has a grudge against Yami and wants to kill him which would also mean killing Yugi and Yugi ONLY CARES THAT YAMI IS IN DANGER. I can't. I just can't.
SO EMO over literal soulmates that learn more about themselves while knowing each other and then you have the audacity to ask me why I'm so obsessed with Ozpin and Oscar's bond???

I would like to give a coherent writing about the episode as opposed to the screeching I've done on Twitter for the past... Hours?? But i don't think i can still.
Some Ozpin and Oscar related thoughts:
Neo's take on Ozpin is so ooc it hurts more than everyone else bc his first interaction with Ruby is giving her cookies. What he does with broken children is FEED THEM BC FOOD MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER. But. We have seen him pissed off to the point of shouting and it was against Hazel in vol 5. I think the surefire way to make Ozpin this royally pissed off would be using him against his students, which is what hazel did in vol 5 and what neo is doing here, so she's VERY lucky that Oscar didn't fall along with all the others.
Anyway i also happen to think that the only person he would actually be this violent in action and words is himself. I bet this very image of being gruesomely beaten down and berated by him happens regularly in his mind, except he's both the executioner and the victim. And maybe, in his darkest thoughts, Oscar accidentally dies because of him, same as Ruby's fears.
Or maybe Ozma imagines all the reincarnates taking turns beating and insulting him for what he did to them and their families. Point is, Neo may have accidentally performed a perfectly characterized Ozpin, but not against the correct person.
SO UHM i watched my fave violently beating down his future daughter in law to the point she bled, how are you all?
It's also!!! Delicious!!! That he's not just someone Ruby cares about and feels responsible for his death!!! And also someone she resents, but not bc OH OZPIN'S SO EVIL SHE HATES HIM BC HE'S EVIL, but because... The entire volume... Has been very subtly implying she's as afraid of Oscar experiencing ego death in the merge than he himself is (and then she CHOOSES to experience ego death herself at the end. "I don't want to be me anymore"). Holy cow. If you had told me that before vol 9, i would have replied "look rosegarden is my otp too but that feels a bit like reaching" and IT'S NOT. And Neo has used him against Ruby TWICE. And accidentally killing him after slashing at Ozpin can be read in so many fucked up levels and it's what finally break her????
This episode was just so brutal but in a way that i personally found exceptionally intriguing. I love this kind of horror. This couldn't have been possible if not in the ever after. I got to see my oz Bois again and Ozpin's maya model finally being put to use, and Shannon actually shouting in his voice, but at what cost, but it was perfect.
Also glad they finally gave the man his lips back. I was wondering where they went after vol 2. Thank you Neo. Also, for giving Oscar his melanin back.
