She manages to remain hidden in her chambers for three days following the consummation. Though she doesn't go as far as barring the door, she may as well have, only allowing two maid servants into the room and no one else save her grandsire. She allows him in the morning after the wedding, knowing that he is too persistent to keep out. The pleasantries only last so long, with him informing her of Baela and Rhaena's plan to return to court in time for her coronation before he begins inquiring as to whether or not the consummation was successful. She keeps the details as vague as possible before managing to kick him out with complaints of sickness. It keeps him away, him and everyone else who could possibly want to see her. And she is glad for it. Though it is not fair, she blames Corlys for her humiliation and refuses to speak with him further until this shame dissipates, unsure as to how she will ever be able to look at anyone within that damned council without thinking of how they had all put her in this situation. How they had watched them, her, while she and Aemond had done their duty.
It is foolish, she knows, to remain upset. A thousand women have endured such a fate before her and she does not doubt a thousand have yet to bear it, but she is the queen now. Should she wish to sulk in her shame, there is no one in the realm who can pull her from her rooms now.
Or, at least, not many.
He gives her time, keeping his distance for nearly four nights, but she knew he would come to her eventually. Duty is the pillar Aemond has built his life upon and he would not allow it to go unattended for long. Though she had thought he would come to her during the day, that he would find the time in his rigorous schedule to knock on her door and berate her for her lack of attention, for attempting to skate her duty. It was so expected that she had prepared herself for it, steeling herself whenever she heard footsteps sound too close to the door.
She hadn’t expected him to come in through the passageways during the hour of ghosts, appearing in the mirror behind her as suddenly as a wraith.
She is forced to stifle a shriek when she catches sight of him, turning quickly to face him. It feels almost like having your back on a predator, the discomfort only growing when she catches the look on his face. Jaw set, lips pursed, looking around the room in disdain. It takes more effort than it should, to attempt to appear unaffected, but there is only one thought coursing through her mind now. That he is here to claim his rights, to do his husbandly duty. He had given her respite, likely longer than he had any reason to, and now he is here to begin what must be started.
The very thought makes her stomach sink, the consummation replaying in her head like a terrible dream, but she forces herself to steel her spine and appear unbothered, reprimanding him through the mirror.
"By the gods, Aemond, there is a door for a reason, you know. You cannot just sneak into my rooms like a thief in the night."
His mouth twitches at that, his irritation evident. "You are not answering your door. Nor are you leaving your chambers. I had almost begun to believe that you are ill."
"I am ill."
He simply hums, making his way toward her. She stiffens, whole body going rigid, but he does not touch her. Instead, his hand goes to the line of ornate bottles that sit below her vanity, each one lined meticulously. He picks up one of the bottles, uncorking it before holding it under his nose. It's a perfume, one that she had been gifted before the war by one of the lords vying for her affection. She had always liked it- a pretty thing that smelt of peaches and honey- and had used it sparingly, but his face remains unchanged as he pushes the cork back in and sets it back in the line.
"My mother has yet to leave me alone," he announces into the silence. She goes still again, not needing him to continue, but he pays her no heed. With his eye still locked on her, he continues. "She is determined to ensure that I understand the importance of conceiving an heir. Corlys as well, though I imagine he has come to visit you despite your illness."
It is her turn to clench her jaw, biting her tongue as she leans forward to fetch her hairbrush. "He has."
"Then you know why I've come?"

can i ask for any details about the hotd/jjk fic?
you mean aside from this lil WIP snippet?
I think I'm gonna call it "Write myself out of the history books" a line from All Time Low to match the rest of my 'Dropping Gojo into fandoms he didn't ask to be in' works 😂
His name is Soren and let's just pretend its Valyrian when in actuality it's just one of my favorite Fire Emblem characters (I feel like Gojo would appreciate that though, prolly a Soren stan himself lol)
His dragon hatches in his crib and idk I headcanon that Rhaenyra would wait to let him name it himself because she probably did the same with Syrax? But then 2 yr-old Gojo is like 'her name is Blue Eyes White Dragon' and Rheanyra is like 'wtf no' and also, this is why you shouldn't let kids name their own damn dragons. Rhaenyra refuses to let him name his dragon after what she doesn't realize is a Yu-gi-oh card, and in they settle for Sylvion, which she thinks is just some obscure Valyrian word/reference his 'Uncle' Daemon taught him, but is in fact a Pokemon that bears striking resemblance to his dragon. It's one of Dreamfyre's eggs, mostly bright white, with blue accents and some slight pink in the membranes, hence, Sylvion. Which is also Gojo's favorite pokemon, so he's two for two with references in this life.
He knows damn well that Daemon is not his Uncle, and they (Rhaenyra, Daemon, Laenor) all know he knows even if they collectively don't acknowledge it. He's Daemon and Rhaenyra's 'accidental brothel baby' that she had to get shotgun wedding'd to Laenor for, which is why he's much older than canon-Jace.
The age gaps are: Satoru/Soren (0), Aegon (+2), Helaena (-1), Aemond (-2), Jace (-3), Luke (-4) idk if Joff or Daeron will be in this.
Aegon is in love with him literally at first sight. He's going to PINE FOREVER. Like so much angst when he realizes he doesn't just adore his nephew in a purely platonic sense - which his mother/grandfather already dislike - but is in fact homosexually and audaciously in love with him lol. He definitely tries to fuck himself out of his own gayness, which absolutely does not work, esp when he starts ending up gravitating to regular female whores to male whores who all bear a striking resemblance to his nephew.
Does Gojo know? Hmm yes but not really. It doesn't even cross his mind even though he is also very gay, and also knows incest is casually a normal thing in the Valyrian family. But to him, Aegon is his uncle, and also a man in a 'don't say gay' world, so he kind of intentionally doesn't look too deeply into it. He does notice Egg is very attached to him, but he's not sure how much of that is familial and platonic and just Egg's very handsy personality versus romantic. They played a lot together as kids, slept in the same bed etc back when they were young enough it didn't mean anything, and obviously Gojo never felt that way about what he thought was a 'cute sticky dumpling of a kid who thinks he hung the moon' so it'll be a longgg and difficult shift for him to see Egg in any other way.
Aemond worships him in a strictly platonic sense that totally feeds his god complex. Gojo is literally the warrior reborn to him. He's a one man army and everyone knows it and he's so out of any mortal's league instead of being jealous about it Aemond just straight up adores him like a god. Daemon and Laena don't get together in this fic (RIP Baela and Rhaena) so Laena is still alive and has Vhagar, so idk maybe Aemond has Vermithor.
On a related note, everyone worships him as a god (or a Valyrian devil, *ahem* Hightowers *ahem*) bc to them he may as well be one. He has all his OG powers, he's invincible and untouchable and literally unstoppable. He achieves infamy the world over during Stepstones Round 2 where he absolutely obliterates an entire army and a few islands besides. He straight up asks his 'grandfather' Corlys if he should just eradicate the whole island chain and permanently solve the problem. Of course, the story gets convoluted with the whole medieval 'he said she said' chain of communication so there are plenty of non-believers still. LOL jokes on them.
He adores Rhaenyra. Like he likes Laenor a lot, and is partial to his little brothers (yes Jace and Luke exist, idk if they're Laenor's or Daemon's yet tho. They would't be Harwins bc Rhaenyra took one look at Gojo and was like 'shit he's 100% Valyrian its gonna look weird as hell if his siblings dont look like him at all') and has a soft spot for his 'Uncle' Daemon, but the reason he even bothers to stick around and not just fuck off to Essos to raise his own empire is because of her. I headcanon Gojo to have zero relationship with his parents in JJK - which unfortunately is expected from 'the patriarch' aka his father, but deeply hurt him in regards to his mother, who also cared nothing for him. Yes total double standard, but that's patriarchy for you. Anyway Rhaenyra is the opposite - she cherishes him from day 1, and whether that's because she truly loved him at first sight or just loved the idea of a child of hers and Daemon's who knows. But she doted on him and took care of him in a way anomalous for mother's in Westeros, and Gojo always took note of that. He'd burn the world for her - or in this instance, cower it into submission so she can have her throne in peace.
He doesn't mind playing the 'radiant prince' for her, being the faultless and impossibly perfect heir to the throne, because he knows it strengthens her claim immeasurably when his achievements so obviously outshine her direct competitor (Egg, who in fact does not give a shite about the throne and just wants to run away on his dragon with Soren). He even quietly submits himself to the idea of taking a wife because he knows that's also expected of him, although he plans on copying Laenor and having some threesome magic going on. Will that have to come to pass though? Hmm idk yet
THERE WILL BE ZOMBIES. No Night King, but I absolutely believe that Gojo accidentally would become the Prince who was Promised. His birth once again upsets the balance of yet another world, and shifts events into motion that would have laid dormant otherwise. Does he bring magic back into world with his birth? That would be interesting. Idk yet tho.
I also believe in the Maester conspiracy, so that might be in this fic too

No okay bc i was thinking about Rhea Royce and Daemon too, right, bc she’s an heiress so like-
I’ve mentioned this before but Lady Waynwood rules in her own right and all of her sons have her name. We know nothing about her husband, perhaps he was some wealthy Essosi noble and thus there was no family on the continent to be affronted at his children not having his name, maybe he was like second born and no one gave a shit, but regardless, she and Jacaerys (who was meant to take the name Targaryen once he was prince of dragonstone) are our only real examples here for ruling women who actually have children outside of dorne - because jeyne arryn never has children of her own so she never deals with the problem of “how do i navigate naming my kids as an heiress?”
DOES THIS MEAN DAEMON’S KIDS WOULDNT EVEN BE CALLED TARGARYENS❓
or does this mean Rhea is supposed to just be okay with the name Royce disappearing??? I do not fucking think so, so they’d likely do the split name thing like with Rhaenyra’s kids, although (and this is assuming Daemon manages to have even one let one two kids with her lmao) I do imagine Daemon having a single child out there that doesn’t have the name Targaryen really pisses him off.
The first names in this situation intrigue me. When Valyrians marry outside the family, their children tend to get at least some Valyrian names - Laena Penrose, Aemma Arryn, Viserys Plumm tho u could argue that was a purposeful insult too, Rhaego to some extent - and they usually marry back into the main branch - Jocelyn Baratheon, Laena & Laenor Velaryon, all the cousin swapping going on with Daeron’s grandkids, Elia Nymeros Martell (ish), potentially Aelinor Penrose as well - but at the same time, this house will descend from RHEA not Daemon, so the Valyrian name is likely to kinda die out after a generation or two for the main line, while the second born probably marries back into the main line. Like, the Penroses are named Phillip now, not Baelor or Laena, bc they don’t descend from Elaena on paper, they descend from her HUSBAND, from Ronnel. And while it’s likely Rhaenyra’s grandkids by Jacaerys would have Targaryen names, her grandkids by Lucerys would have Velaryon names, and crucially, all of Rhaenyra’s kids by Laenor have names Laenor picks because the husband picks. So Rhea’s son? gonna have a whack ass name like Baelon Royce. But Baelon Royce may want to pick a more Royce-ish name for his own heir, instead of a Targaryen one, and that’s gonna be. a conversation.
i think daemon is going to insist on his royce child marrying another valyrian and choosing another targaryen first name (even if they still keep the name royce). like, he is going to be the bitchiest sort of grandparent who just straight up won’t acknowledge the child’s real name if he doesn’t get his way here, at least while he’s alive.
IN THAT SAME VEIN, daemon is super valyria brained. if he has two girls or two boys with rhea it’s whatever but if he has a boy and a girl. i think this man is going to want his kids to marry. we are just going to have random royces fucking in the vale.
(i think he can be talked out of it easily enough if viserys just like, idk, promises the daughter to his eventual son or promises daemon’s son to rhaenyra AND LETS TALK ABOUT THAT SITUATION PLEASE).
and rhea in all this is like. fine you can name our kid baelon royce. fine our daughter can be named baela targaryen too. fine baelon can have personal arms that have a dragon on them. fine they can-no fuck you baelon and baela are not getting married i’m sending a raven to the king as we speak you fucking freak. what do you mean you’re sending rhaenyra to runestone viserys??
this woman’s life is a nightmare omg
but also THIS COULD HAVE HELPED SO MUCH AFTER SUMMERHALL. this is what these bitches get for incest marrying so much, no cousins to turn to when your main house dies. that’s called bad dynastic planning, read a history book daemon!!!!!

@ viserys targaryen
Tumblr media
i don't really understand what's the point of making viserys and daemon neglectful fathers in the show... yeah like daemon is around his girls a lot (especially baela in her childhood) and ig we could say he cares for his children with nyra, touching her tummy, searching for eggs, even clearly supporting luke and jace and their claim
but then we have rhaena's "father ignores me". we have scene when he hugs them after laena's death but it get cut so does it really count? we have him ignoring the fact his daughters were hurt during fight with aemond. he talks about dragonriders and unclaimed dragons and rhaena becomes uncomfortable (and it might means nothing for her relation with daemon but still). he ignores nyra in her labour (which is weirder when you think about jace's question. where is daemon? as if he expected him there. as if daemon was by nyra's side when she was giving birth to viserys and aegon, just like he was with laena. yes, he now plans the war to protect them but also he's wife may be dying). caring daemon - cut! comforting rhaenyra? cut! mourning visenya? cut! finding out about luke? cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it seems like his character as a father (i already complained about daemon as a husband lmao) was written very inconsistent, writers wanted to show he's a family guy after all but really damaged his relationship with his children, especially his own ones, as if caring for family claims were more important than themselves for him
less with viserys but still. he was never a good father, not even in the books but his character was damaged his too (especially with rhaenyra). we see him celebrating aegon's birthday, touching alicent's belly, watching his kids and grandkids training etc and after that we have "rhaenyra, my only child"?? dear gods (poppy milk blah blah whatever). not even commenting on his behaviour towards aemond and aegon on driftmark (yeah, one just commitet a treason and the other was drunk but dude wtf). helaena didn't give a fck about him while in the book she visited him regularly with her children. the fact he doesn't even know his daughter is a dreamer (that one also... ehh)? that he doesn't talk with aemond even though they both love history??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
what truly bothers me that daemon is supposed to be a grey character but in the show if he wasn't in team black which is more "morally right" and also politically correct about claim to the throne we'd say he's fully antagonist cause of the crimes he commited and his good moments (as brother, father, husband) are really reduced
viserys and daemon are not good people, period. they have many flaws we could see clearly in books and show. i just can't understand why creators decided to destroy their characters as fathers (especially daemon) as if they needed to show this way that they're both bad men*. it's very one dimensional - you're bad man, then you're also bad husband, bad father, bad brother, bad friend. which is even more stupid when you see these big gestures that should prove otherwise (viserys coming to the throne room, daemon ensuring jace's claim or killing vaemond in nyra's protection etc)
*this confuses me much, viserys is shown as a "good guy" most of the time even after what he did to the realm, aemma or alicent, as peaceful king, family guy, who loves them all so dearly, but looks like him neglacting other children could in any way help rhaenyra being seen more as a rightful heir to watchers? idk unnecessary and speaks volumes, apparently as watchers we're stupid bc we don't see viserys is terrible (oh bc how could he be? he married 15yo instead of 12yo - i'm gonna write sth about these age changes too cause seven hells - such a good guy) after rping two girls and basically killing his wife at very least so they need to show us deadbeat father

Vaemond's daughter who took more after her mother in the hair color department. Idk what to use this for, but the woman is absolutely beautiful. There's so many ways this could go bc we have: (👑💀 btw)
King Aegon forcibly taking her as a second wife bc he's always wanted her and doesn't care if she tries to fight back Helaena joining in and gaining her trust first while secretly being VERY manipulative and obsessive when it comes to her wife. They force her to take Aegon’s cum in her pussy everytime, making it obvious that they're trying to breed her to force her to stay with them and ruin her for others.
Aemond crushing on the girl who never seemed to like her bastard "cousins" and bonding with her over their parent's mutual dislike of Rhaenyra’s endless rule breaking being swept under the rug they're both their mommy/daddy's favorite and have "repressed" anger issues, so they're both insufferable and occasionally explosive. The couple to make you cry within seconds. If they aren't already married and he needs to still choose a Baratheon, she would ride with him on her own dragon and go down the line instead of him. She'd make it seem like she was just helping him choose the best girl, but she was ultimately the one making the decision since the girl would be hers. She picks the shy girl and wastes no time breaking her new toy in, reducing the girl to a faithful puppy instead of competition for what's hers.
Daemon choosing her over Laena and forgetting all about his niece, telling her on their wedding night that he'd breed her and show her father how to properly carry on Valyrian features she yells at him a bit for being an ass, but alas, most of their children have silver hair and violet eyes. He definitely only got with her to piss off her father, but grows to love her and becomes extremely possessive the first time he catches her getting her pussy ate by two maids. Daemon puts her "in her place" when he walks by a room in his favorite pleasure house and stops to observe the lewd sight in front of him. A woman was roughly riding a man while hungrily making out with the girl sitting on his face, their tits brushing together beautifully. His cock rises even more as a beefy man brushes past him and quickly shoves his cock in her ass without preparation or warning, pounding into her with no self control. Daemon storms in angrily when the woman disconnects from her female lover and looks back at the man with a dopey smile, recognizing her as his new wife... needless to say, he never left her to her own devices again and knew if he cheated she'd surely out do him again.
Jacaerys lusting after her and begging his mommy to let him have her once he sees her at the Driftmark hearing and watches Vaemond be beheaded by his step-father, knowing the biggest obstacle was out of his way besides Baela ofc, but they could always share her cousin if push comes to shove. The first time he gets to her, he cums within seconds of being inside her, much to both of their horror. She's horrified to risk giving birth to a bastard's bastard, especially knowing how much Vaemond detested Rhaenyra’s family, and he is embarrassed he didn't get to take his time with her and is afraid his chances of her taking him seriously have lessened. Baela is furious to learn of his plans with her cousin, but only because she's had a crush on her since they were children, finding the older girl to be the epitome of beauty and remembering following her every lead. Baela would never forget how her cousin was the first person she ever had a wet dream about, it being induced by bathing with her and helping scrub her back, giving the younger girl a great chance to peak her body. They sleep next to each other, her cousin holding her in her arms with her tits in the girl's face as Baela's head becomes foggy before she ends up dreaming of sucking those pretty tits and exploring that pussy with her fingers.
Vaemond sending her to seduce Viserys so that he chooses her instead of Laena or any other girl, telling her it's for the good of their family and that she can be in control just like she's always wanted. She manipulates the older man severely and gets everything she wants from him, not needing much to convince him to give in to her every whim. It's obvious to everyone but him that she's the one that has complete control of the relationship, people gossiping about their new queen and how she's the person with the most power as he stupidly believes him topping her at night makes him the dominant. Rhaenyra hates seeing her dad being taken advantage of and being so mushy for some girl that's closer in age to herself while simultaneously admiring the woman for taking charge in a world that favors men. She'll never admit it, but she has a crush on the woman and practically leers at her everytime they're in the same room, her stepmother not nearly as conservative with her gowns as they'd expect a queen to be. Rhaenyra knows she can no longer resist her urges when she watches her new baby brother nurse from his mom's perky tit, waiting and following the woman to the baths later as if it were a coincidence they met up at the same time. Rhaenyra waits for the Velaryon to slip into the water and get comfortable before entering and sliding up behind her, groping her stepmother and pushing her up against the side of the hotspring, making her bend over it for easier access. Rhaenyra eagerly slides her tongue through her puffy folds and gives her the best head she's had in a long time, outdoing her father easily and making the queen squirt in her mouth. Viserys denies that their relationship is odd and gaslights himself into believing it's normal even though he's caught his daughter rutting her pussy against the woman that's supposed to be strictly her stepmom. He's much too happy they're getting along and Rhaenyra spices up their sex life because he actually starts putting in more work knowing he has competition Rhaenyra teaches her dad how to properly go down on their queen before getting permissionto ride the girl's face as she gives pointers to Viserys.
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO CHOSE FROM ANY OF THIS!!
Second Wife: I love how Helaena is also in on the game. Nobody ever suspects her and this time is no difference as Vaemond's daughter even forgets she is dealing with two dragons. NSFW GIF
Second son's lust: They would so be a couple that would make anyone cry thank you very much. Of course, they need a sweet little doe to break and oh how they do it. They seal the Baratheon ally and their relationship only thrives.
His chosen lust: Of course Daemon has alternative motives; such a dick and we love him for it. Teasing her about her genetics not being strong enough should not be so hot. NSFW GIF
Strong lust: He has mommy issues !! Of course he gets Rhaenyra to get him everything he wants. Jace not lasting long is delicious as well as Baela pouting in the background. This is not what Vaemond's daughter wanted and now she is stuck.
The King's lust: ALL OF THIS! Of course Viserys thinks taking her beneath him means something. Bless him. Rhaenyra just drooling over her .

Oh, can I please have more deets about the Lucemond Arranged Marriage AU idea??
Yeah sure I've thought about it plenty lmao. It's another canon divergence AU (can you tell I love me some fix-its?) and is basically founded on two main premises:
1. Viserys lives until 135 AC
Somehow Viserys is a bit healthier than he was in the show canon, so he has the strength to keep going for six years longer than in canon. By the time he dies in 135 AC, instead of 129 AC, things will have shifted within the families as a result.
Visenya survived her birth in 129 AC, since there was no throne stealing to induce a miscarriage. Corlys died in 132 AC (as in canon). With Viserys around to ensure his claim, Luke succeeded Corlys as Master of Driftmark.
By the time Viserys dies, Visenya will be six years old and Luke will have been Master of Driftmark for three years. However, as in canon, the Greens will still probably try to move to take the throne. But now we're dealing with two Teams who look different than in canon and who are in different positions politically.
Team Black will be in a noticeably stronger position (their dragon riders have matured + Jace has had more time to prove his competence + Luke has full control of Velaryon resources). So it sets up the stage very nicely for Team Green to be quickly (and relatively bloodlessly) overpowered by Team Black, for Rhaenyra to assume her throne, and for her to try to solve the house divide with her favorite trick: a few handy dandy arranged marriages.
2. Same-sex marriages are seen as valid political arrangements
I mean this is kind of necessary for when your plot revolves around two men being in an arranged marriage lmao. I have no trick to make this realistic, you'll just straight up have to suspend your disbelief. Maybe it's a Valyrian tradition that's kind of looked down upon by most of Westeros, the same way as incest is. I also don't write mpreg, so this would require some further suspension of disbelief that magic can be used to let two guys reproduce via a surrogate or smth. Idk man just go with it. But overall, this stuff will have interesting plot implications:
For example, Otto would have had a legitimate reason to try to pimp Alicent out to Rhaenyra, happy to embrace Valyrian taboos when they furthered his private agenda, but Viserys likely pulled rank to steal Alicent away and his subsequent relationships with both girls were more negative as a result.
Instead of proposing that Jace and Helaena marry, Rhaenyra would have probably proposed that Jace and Aegon marry, as the two respective eldest children, but with Jace as the sole ruler. (As in canon, Alicent would refuse and instead marry Aegon to Helaena, this time just because she's the second-eldest instead of because she's the eldest girl.)
The two betrothals between Jace and Baela and Luke and Rhaena would still occur. Jace and Baela would get married before Viserys died and have a child on the way. (Potential angst goldmine here for Viserys's death to still cause a miscarriage- just not Rhaenyra's)
But Luke and Rhaena wouldn't get married quite yet, leaving Luke betrothed but technically unmarried by the time of Viserys's death.
Add 1 and 2 together and you get Lucerys and Aemond: the eldest unmarried children on either of the two teams, right when Rhaenyra is trying to use marriages to unite the teams. You'll also probably get some attempt to marry Jace's bloodline with Aegon's within one of the younger generations, but that's not the main point here.
So you get older, very adult Lucemond by the time they even consider each other in a romantic context- Lucerys will be about 20 and Aemond about 24- and you also get a Lucerys who's already three years into being Master of Driftmark. Lucemond in this content are snarky assholes who are on fairly equal footing (Aemond having Vhagar balances out Luke having a title). Push them together, wind them up, and watch them go.

Will you watch season 2 of HotD or you've lost interest in the show? I wasn't thrilled with season 1, but I do like some characters and I'm curious to see if they'll do them any justice in the next season(s). I'm still trying to be optimistic (which is definitely against my nature 😁), although the latest leaks from Spain (which I desperately hope to be false) doesn't sound promising.
Idk it you read Fire & Blood, but that book is often overrated imho, almost all the characters there are painfully one-dimensional, shallow and bland, while the plot is full of illogical things (especially the Dance part) . So, as you can see, I'm not the biggest book fan, and I do believe that the show did some things better and gave a bit of depth and complexity to certain characters and fleshed them out. However, at the same time it seems to me that they didn't complete what they started, like, you see the potential of the characters and understand their motivations, but then out of the blue they do or say something totally nonsensical and OOC. Take Alicent at the end of episode 8. Rhaenyra says something nice to her and she suddenly forgives everything and forgets that's the same woman who wanted to "sharply question" Aemond after her son Luke maimed him over an insult (a fact, actually), the woman her husband always favoured at the expense of Alicent's own children and finally, the woman who is married to Daemon, the sociopath who hates Alicent and her children and who will kill anyone (and apparently with Rhaenyra and Viserys' blessing) without remorse if it benefits him and his side. I mean, the guy even had the gall to look annoyed during the prayer for Vaemond. Still, according to the show, Alicent somehow needs to "misunderstand" Viserys' last words to crown her own son, and not because it's probably the only way to keep her and her children alive and safe and because her son actually has the strongest claim to the throne according to Westerosi laws avd tradition. And don't get me started on the Velaryons who are collectively depicted as "Dae and Rhae fan club". Like, what is Corlys even thinking?! I won't ask about Baela and Rhaena because they obviously don't get to think and are just unconditionally supportive of Rhaenyra and the Strong boys. Rhaenys is contradictory and inconsistent. It's frustrating, really. Also, the fact that the narrative/the framing of the show heavily favours team black is also off-putting. Nevertheless, I'm still curious and just a bit hopeful that season 2 will balance these things a little. Maybe I'll just be terribly disappointed, but oh well. Sorry for the rant :D
Anyway, as a fan of your fic, I would like to know your opinion. Does the show deserve our optimism and what are your predictions regarding season 2?
S2 predictions? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why would you ask me this? This is a show where someone in a professional HBO writers room said, "So what if a dragon just bursts up from the underground?" And the showrunner was like "Fuck yeah!"
I don't think they even thought to do a camera pan of the carnage. It's like they wanted to make Rhaenys look badass but did a Koolaid Man scene instead.
Tell me that this isn't Rhaenys
Tumblr media
Predictions? This is not Leftovers where you could do a whole video essay on foreshadowing and subtext and hidden clues. This is a series where there's a horse running loose in a writer's room and nobody knows what it's going to write next.
This is the most bizarre thing I've ever seen.
My prediction for S2 is that during the time off at least one person realizes that they failed to make Aegon into Joff 2.0, that instead of having him be affably evil, he's onscreen affable and offscreen evil, and they'll try to double down on actually showing that he's evil and actually showing that he's worse than Daemon and Rhaenyra.
We've seen Daemon in brothels, grooming and marrying children, killing Rhea, killing innocent people and murdering lords at court, but we've only been told (by very minor characters) that Aegon is a baby-eating rape monster. It's all extremely "tacked-on."
I think Aegon's the biggest problem that they have to work on. Just getting at least this one character to make sense moving forward.
When Jahaerys is killed, I think they'll use that to really commit to making him the bad guy. Like he'll have to be killing a baby or raping someone or eating someone so that it's not Rhaenyra and Daemon killing a child but "Look at what this bad man was doing instead of protecting his son."
As far as predictions go, that's all I can see. If they only develop one character in S2, it needs to be him. Rhaenyra has Rockstar!Daemon, Rhaenys and Corlys on her side, so they'll have to upscale the green threat otherwise it's a bunch of grown people and veteran soldiers fighting two children who have no experience at anything because the oldest one is a 20-year-old frat boy and his brother is still a teenager. Aegon's going to have to really be villainous.
I feel like there's a reason all his nude scenes are with his mother, it's one of the few consistent things between them through the time skips and actor changes, and I feel like they're going to go fully 500% in that Commodus direction
Tumblr media
and have him just be creepy and rapey with her in a "bad incest," how-the-turntables, "be careful what you wish for" way. Alicent's defining trait seems to be "perpetual victim," so I feel like they'll go this way and frame it as if she's getting what she deserves for slapping him around. Ten extra points if they have Rhaenyra or Rhaenys there on hand to be like "Is this your king?"
I don't see them doing anything with Rhaena besides sending her away, and I actively don't want to see Baela going out there getting her dragon killed and her face burnt off in defense of Rhaenyra.
I honestly try to not think about s2 of this.
I was a hardcore asoiaf fan but I didn't like Feast or Dance. I read Dunk and Egg, but he didn't finish that either. And when F&B came out, I got the audiobook and I listened to it for a few hours, probably less than five, and I couldn't concentrate because I kept thinking "Did this bitch seriously package his story notes as a novel for sale??? This is an insult to storytelling."
And I deleted it.
It's the quality for one thing. It's the lack of diversity, it's the author not finishing anything, it's the fandom being 20% fantasy fans, 80% trump rally...
Like, in just 10 episodes HotD has managed to give a voice to pro-rape feminists. Didn't even know that was a thing until I saw it on Twitter.
I saw some of the leaked pics of Helaena at the funeral on my feed, didn't have to scroll far to see people just casually r-wording Helaena and acting like having six fingers is a killing offense since eugenics rhetoric is apparently thriving in this fandom.
And on top of all that, the story doesn't even make sense.
I don't want to be like "dramaturgically speaking" but narrative coherence is a thing. Just from bing chat (yes, I'm using bing 😣):
Narrative coherence is the degree to which a story makes sense. Coherent stories are internally consistent, with sufficient detail, strong characters, and free of significant surprises. The ability to assess coherence is learned and improves with experience. Individuals assess a story's adherence by comparing it with similar stories. The ultimate test of narrative sense is whether the characters act reliably. If figures show continuity throughout their thoughts, motives, and actions, acceptance increases. However, characters behaving uncharacteristically destroy acceptance.
This show has curb-stomped narrative coherence.
Like, take that scene where they killed Vaemond. The way they write it, Rhaenyra has come back after 6 years of never visiting her father to drag him off his deathbed so he can support her in taking Driftmark, the seat of house Velaryon, away from Velaryon people to give it to her son by Harwin Strong. Vaemond is killed for telling the truth.
With different lighting and music, that's peak tyranny. That's some Mad King Aerys shit. In full view of all the lords at court. Every single person in that courtroom is aware that Luke is a bastard and they've just witnessed a lord like themselves get beheaded over it. This isn't Daemon killing commoners. He's killing the lords and ladies of Westeros.
But there's no fallout. Nothing. All the lords of Westeros cease to matter. It's just another Tuesday to them.
Hell, they go even further and frame the scene like Viserys is Old Theoden fighting off the curse of Wormtongue. Otto, Alicent and her goblin children all but shrivel and wither from the sunlight that Rhaenyra brings as Vaemond is cut down by noble Daemon. In that scene, Dark Sister might as well be Andúril, Flame of Old Valyria, sword of justice.
There are shows that are easy to watch that we say are "no brain cells required," but HotD is like, "No brain cells allowed. Switch them off or put them on silent so you don't disturb anyone."
I have no hope for season 2. I would never rec this to anyone or say that I think the writing will improve. The foundation is shit. You can't build a strong s2 on a shit s1 unless you're writing a procedural or an anthology where nothing that comes before matters.
You can't undo things like Alicent supporting Aegon as king because of a misunderstanding. There's a limit to how many things you can retcon without destroying all sense of continuity and they've already gone beyond that in s1.
They're past plot holes. They have whole parts of the world that are just void of all thought. Alicent and Rhaenys are characters who respawn and disintegrate from scene to scene as needed. Corlys is three lines of dialogue in a trenchcoat. Daemon Targaryen is somehow, impossibly, a less-developed Damon Salvatore.
No optimism here.
I'm that jaded ex fan who's like, "hotd is a barren wasteland, riddled with racists, ableists and toxic stans, and those are just the writers. The very fandom air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten-thousand Lindelof-level writers could they fix this shit."
But that being said, I have a really bad habit of watching shit TV.
I've seen Catwoman more than 5 times.
Waterworld, Jonah Hex, Elektra, Daredevil (Ben Affleck and Colin Farrell), Battlefield Earth, Supernova. At least 8 of the Fast movies. All the Transformers. Dracula 2000. All the old school classics of bad cinema.
I haven't watched Morbius as yet and the only reason why is because I feel like Jared Leto is intentionally trying to become Nicholas Cage and I don't want to support that.
There is something about the cringe that hooks me. And with a TV series? That weekly cringe? That is peak entertainment.
It used to take me 4 sometimes 5 hours to watch and digest a single episode of Titans because there were so many questions to think about.
I hyperfixate on bad writing. Trying to figure out all the ways it went wrong and why and what they were trying to do. Once I start, I can't stop thinking about it. I'm hoping swhhw gets it out of my system, but I don't know.
Like, anybody can make good TV. Anybody can do that if you try hard enough. But truly horrible TV isn't supposed to exist. It's like 20 million an episode to make HotD? Nobody is supposed to invest that in a show where the showrunner doesn't even know how old the characters are. Bad TV shows are supposed to be snuffed out before they see the light of day.
But HotD is something special.
You don't accidentally end up with a Koolaid Dragon busting up through concrete. A director described that scene to a VFX crew. The actors had to rehearse that repeatedly. They had to do a read-through...
Like, just think about that.
And then they announce that they're going ahead with s2 without writers?!
Tumblr media
That is insane. Part of me says look away, and the other part of me says that s2 of HotD will be something the likes of which I'll never see again.
I really don't want to watch S2, but honestly, I might. Not because I think it will be better but because I'm dead certain it can only get worse.

Its not quiet a 5am thought cause its like 2, but hear me out!
So modern au right? Alpha/beta! Aegon is in like highschool/college and everytime he walks by the library he always smells baked goods, which is confusing cause you're not allowed to eat in the library, but he just keeps going about his day. It keeps happening for awhile so he drags Helaena and Aemond along to see if they also smell baked goods. The thing is though is that, they actually smell leather and books (Helaena) and the sea (Aemond) so now all three of them are curious and its not till near the end of the year that they finally decide to go into the library, Aemond proposes the idea but Helaena is the one to actually DO IT, and after they enter and look around is when they finally see three people sitting at a table doing their work. Its them! They're the sources of those amazing scents, so while Aegon and Aemond are arguing over what to do, Helaena goes over and introduces herself! Its soon after they meet that the siblings become friends with the three, learning their names are Jacaerys, Lucaerys, and Baela.
Modern aus have been on the mind tonight and I just thought this was like a little meet cute!
Aaaaaa I’m obsessed. Anon I inform you that I’ve been working on a college AU that has all of them since Oct *takes deep breath* *wipes tears* but it’s been a slow process bc my stupidass decided to make it a world building instead of just putting them in college and run with it. All because I wanted to keep their dragons. And now I’m miserable.
It’s not a/b/o though, but I love this idea. ;-;
I love their scents in here. Jace smelling like baked goods? I see it, I like it! Now I wanna discuss how Aegon, Aemond and Helaena smell? Aegon I feel like he smells like cranberries, idk why. It’s sour but sweet. Bittersweet. He’s a wine fanatic but I like cranberries and I will indulge jeifjs. Helaena I see lavender, something soothing that always puts Baela at ease. Aemond… hmm. Idk but I can sense something woodsyfrom him. Like pine trees, or burning wood but with a side of something soft/sweet, what do you think? 🤔🤔 I’m not the best with scents tbhhh aa

I always wonder what would have happened if Jace had survived the dance instead of Aegon and Viserys, what kind of man would he have become after the war and the loss of his entire family. would he have come to rule? or would he have been forced to leave? they say Targaryen madness comes from the desire for power but in Jace's case I can see him losing control of himself in despair and grief
i think he would have become king, i think his grief and rage would necessitate it. what would be the point of all the pain and war and death of his family if he doesn’t end up on the throne? i think that’s how he would think of it
i can see a ruthlessness that aegon iii didn’t have but jace would - like he wouldn’t stand for the suggestion of treason. he would take cregan’s route post dance and execute all those involved on the green side. bc of this i think people would view him the way they do daemon - half think of him as a tyrant, the other half as a just king who punishes all crimes as befits it. that’s like decades later, immediately after when he kills alicent and jaehaera (by dragon or sword or ‘under mysterious circumstances’) he would immediately regarded a third maegor and have to put down another rebellion/false king thing. many possibilities out there <3
after the war i think the smallfolk would generally admire him for his good policies but the houses he punishes through idk taxation and social shunning bc of their role in the war - eg hightowers and lannisters - would absolutely hate him and trying to sidle back into his good graces for various reasons
if vermax also survives i think that would cement jace’s place as ruler, the last dragon king. credibility and authority etc etc and also having a fucking giant murder tool.
i can see jace super isolating himself, trusting no one entirely. lonely and melancholy like aeg3 but also with this festering rage. lowkey always looking for an excuse to let it out. most of the court defo has to tread carefully around him. any hint of conspiring behind his back - imagined or real - and jace is immediately like [crazy eyes] Do We Have A Problem :) (→ worst smile you’ve ever seen in your life)
if baela and rhaena survive he’d defo have to marry one. i think it would be good if it was rhaena… like not marrying baela would be the ultimate symbol of the loss of the security of their youth and of what they were promised in their youth… the castle of childhood finally crumbling to ruin and they have to live in the real world where nothing worked out as they wanted it to…
also the jace-angst of baela being like ‘actually i want to marry alyn, your maybe half brother who looks more legitimate than you do, who is replacing your little brother’s place in the world’ WAIT WAIT WAIT even as i type the thoughts r flowing… post war baela saying to jace i hardly recognise you anymore and calls off their betrothal. anyway then of course baela and alyn have a horrible marriage and she majorly regrets it but can’t do anything abt it because now rhaena is queen ^-^ i think being married to rhaena would help heal some of his wounds, like she understands they were her family too. i feel like rhaena is calmer compared to the fieriness of jace and baela so might help balance him out. downside of that is he walks right over her when he believes his way is righteous
longer than i anticipated but yeah there are a few thoughts!!! rotating the concept in my mind now veryyy much 😵‍💫

I think the reason of this whole (Aemond is sweet kid) is because Ryan tried to merge Daeron's character with Aemond. In the book Aemond has never been described as "gentle" "polite" he has been always described as fierce since birth (it has nothing to do with the eye incident) while Daeron on the other hand has been described as the gentlest and most popular one of Alicent's son. I just hate this boner that Ryan has for Aemond. The fact that he nerfed Aegon (the literal claimant of the other side) and not only that but managed to vilify Jace, luke, baela and rhaena just to give a sob story to that psycho???? Like wtf he was thinking? Baela and Rhaena weren't there during the fight but also Aemond literally assaulted 3yr Joffrey does that screams bullied kid to you Ryan??! I wonder how Aemond's fanboy ryan is going to portray the absolute hell Aemond will bring in the riverlands. Or how he will enslaves a woman and take her as his "war prize"
Watch him rewrite aemond's entire arc and lines during the war 💀 I mean look at Criston Cole, there was no doubt that man was evil and a misogynistic incel in the book and now due to the show people think of him as a poor working class man ✊ (completely ignoring the fact that he was a son of some minor house not some poor peasant)
I'll admit, I never thought of Daeron being merged into Aemond but now that you mentioned it I kinda see it. Originally i thought they were trying to take Jace's characteristics (being good with the sword, having leadership skills, being studious etc) to put them into Aemond but given how the triggering of the war was no different from the book (basically Aemond gets pissed and makes dumb decisions) that's definitely not the case.
It's so weird because I'm pretty certain they've confirmed Daeron will appear in s2 and given how there wasn't a single mention of his existence in s1 I'm curious how they'll make it work (I suspect they'll just pretend to have never ignored him).
Ryan definitely has some beef with all the team black characters because there's no explanation why every single character of the show is so terrible written. Jace and Luke being made into bullies was already ooc but why on earth were Jace & Luke given the personality of a burnt toast? I know the latter doesn't have lots going on in f&b but Jace was an active character in the story. We know him
I won't even touch Baela & Laena being there. They had no business but given how they had 0 screentime before Ryan had to figure out a way to insert them and remind people they exist and will be important to the story. Of course this leads to another terrible chain of events 'cause both the twins were hurt and Daemon stared like an old gossipy lady instead of idk, checking his daughters? Furthering hurting his character too.
Listen, all the episodes were a mess but I can write an essay about how monstrous ep4 and ep7 are and how they do the most damage to every single character that shows up on screen.

What do you think of the accusation that Rhaenys is hypocritical when talking to Alicent, specifically the "service to men" line? I never saw it myself. I always saw it as a comment about the meaning or potential of "queenship" and independent power as it's a response to Alicent calling herself a true queen.
I personally read this scene as Rhaenys feeling Alicent out to see how really good of a queen she would be if she had both the mettle and the brains for it.
*EDITED (10/6/23)* I agree completely with what backjustforberena says HERE, in regards to what the writers wish to convey. I'm saying that this is the Watsonian reading. I just don't agree with the writers. Instead, it felt more like Rhaenys was just trying to mess with Alicent's head bc yes she is doing what Alicent does, let men rule her while discouraging Rhaenyra/a woman who can do more when she cannot.
Excerpt:
Rhaenys, during the course of the scene, is trying to see what Alicent is made of, trying figure her out and then, ultimately, trying to unbalance her. It’s a comparison of power, yes. It’s a comparison of position, yes. And a comparison of ambition - Rhaenys once imagined herself on the Iron Throne. Alicent never has because she doesn’t see it as possible for herself. But Rhaenys has spent so much time never really paying attention to Alicent, and this is the scene where Rhaenys sees Alicent as a player, as someone who understands the order of things (albeit not to subvert them, but that’s by-the-by) as someone who sees what Rhaenys’s true wishes would be in order to make that offer. She sees Alicent is wise. Now she needed to figure out what Alicent is going to do with that awareness.
That this is what the writers were going for.
*EDIT* 8/20/23: IDK about the definition of "wise" here, though. I don't think it is "wise" to usurp Rhaenyra, to try to conciliate with her using a page from their youth after harassing and endangering her kids lives for 10 years and the expecting to ever be truly civil much less friends. When said page is about Nymeria, the woman who basically established equal primogeniture through violence and war bc she wanted to conquer. Alicent is all like "stop the violence, and just accept Aegon's rule", and if the argument for why she chose Nymeria of all things from that book they read together as kids, she definitely show wrong, since though Nymeria used violence/waged wars in conquest, we cannot argue Dorne is worse for it not was it impossible to uproot years long traditions, much less "all the ceremonies" that legitimize Aegon's ascension. Alicent asking-demanding Rhaenyra stand down "for the realm" doesn't make sense, and her methods also do not make sense.
If anything, following the events and basic human psychology, Rhaenyra should have more reason to go after the greens after that damned page.
So no, Alicent was not wise, nor should Rhaenys believe that she was. Once more, no matter what Rhaenys thinks, Baela and Rhaena are both Daemon's children. Even if Baela wanted to sit out this war, Rhaena is with Daemon AND the greens are not going to give Driftmark to her by patriarchal male-over-women privilege. The same thing they are using to get Aegon to rule over Rhaenyra!

I know that HOTD is supposed end in tragedy and things like, but it's so nice to imagine how things could have been if peace was an option:
1.) Rhae and Alicent rekindling their friendship a year or so after Alicent is forced to marry Viserys. Like Rhae may have been giving her the cold shoulder for that time, but would always be the first person to look at Alicent with concern during the time of her pregnancy in fear of something going wrong. In turn, after supplying more support, Alicent feels safe enough to tell Rhae about what her father has been saying. This ends with Otto getting booted (instead of killed, bc I think Rhae would know that that's the last thing Alicent would want).
2.) Gwayne coming in and being in Alicent's corner, supporting and loving her in more ways than Otto ever did.
3.) Seeing more time spent between Harwin and Rhae. Like, in my mind, they are a little more lacks about their relationship within the family because no one, Otto specifically, is gunning out for them and Alicent is more assured of her children's safety. Maybe even Corlys and Rhaenys know of it, because Laenor is going to be honest with them about it, but would still be unsettled. I think, to make it easier, they would pass off the claim to Driftmark to Laena's daughters, Baela and Rhaena.
4.) Rhae and Alicent raising their kids alongside each other, so there's no bad blood and just a happy family. Like seeing Rhae interact with her siblings and not viewing them as a threat would be so wholesome. And Laena coming to visit with her twin girls and making the family even bigger. Idk about Daemon's place in all this, really, so for this instance he's just there but kept in a corner as to not cause trouble.
5.) Rhae getting to chew Viserys out, because it's what she deserves. Like knowing what he put her mother through, his hand in her death, and what he may be subjecting Alicent too (e.g. knowing he's neglecting his children with her) I feel she would let out some rage.
6.) Laena doesn't die, and gets to spend her days with her family because I said so. I'd you want Aegon III and Viserys II to exist, I guess they work out some way with Daemon and Rhae so have what you will. But back to Laena, we would even get to see more of her and Laenor bonding, and maybe even give their parents a piece of their minds.
7.) Aegon being put in check.
8.) Alicent, especially surrounded by healthy examples of parenting and feeling safe enough to do so, would probably reflect on not only her own relationship with her children, but also how her relationship with her father and Viserys shaped how she became. This would lead to many revelations but she learns to heal and be better towards her kids.
9.) More of the dragons, because this show is called House of the Dragon, with dragon literally in the name, but we hardly see them except for maybe two or three.
10.) Jace and Baela would still be together, because I love them and nothing can take them away from me. For Rhaena, because I want her with someone other than Luke, she could still possibly be with Garmund but ngl, I've seen some pairings of her and Daeron and I kind of see it.
11.) I am a Rhaenicent shipper, so that can exist in some regards as well because I say so. But also, Rhae and Laena will most definitely be a thing, like I see it.

That being said, I'd like to add that Aegon agreed to send Rhaenyra those generous peace terms after he was crowned + the debacle with Meleys. So he may have liked how the crowd responded to him, but he wasn't so high on power that he refused to do what his mother advised.
That whole Meleys scene should be a monumental beat for all characters facing her! And for King's Landing as a backdrop (and greek chorus, one would hope?) but I doubt they will since they boldfaced stated they did that all for an epic MCU moment which is such a shame.. like that's major??? Guess just another Tuesday in King's Landing huh?
Like I really wonder do the writers understand the major implications for, at least, the main cast of characters? Background characters and settings such as the peasants aside for now. Like I believe you're absolutely right in your reading of Aegon by the end of EP10 as at least cooperative to a certain extent, but are the writers? IDK what it looks like inside a writing room and what it's like having to share a narrative with so many people but IDK Scoobs it's not looking that bright.......
I totally follow prev. Anon's line of thinking and I really hope for something nuanced that won't clock you over the head.
I actually don't think we will stay with Aegon a lot... everyone working on HOTD seem to agree that Alicent and Rhaenyra are the MCs and heart of the show which I have nothing against but by nature of it Aegon is secondary to tertiary character. And I say tertiary because they made a bigger effort to put us in, for example, Aemond's POV and I expect them to keep it up going forward. I see no reason why they wouldn't, tho, If I remember correctly, Condal did say he's very interested in the reign of Aegon II so maybe they're saving Aegon-focus for his Hysterical King Arc. Additionally, Aegon will be down post-RR while Aemond is doing fuck all as Prince Regent and Local Terror of Riverland, then Aegon disappears from the face of the earth and the narrative until Sunfyre hits him up again. OFC this is all speculation on my side and depending on the narrative they decide to shoot for, focus and POV can shift. Yet, once again, I see no reason why they would.
I fully expect to see Fight over Dragonstone focalized thru Baela's POV (tho there's much more wiggle room in visual mediums), which I don't mind; she barely gets anything to do in the war as it is.
Rhaenyra being chosen as a POV for her own death march to Dragonstone is a no-brainer.
His return to KL in F&B is already super gloomy and cursed. Hell, his reign is called The Sad Short Reign LMAO so I expect the tone to be kept as oppressive and gloomy as the coronation, if not worse. Like this man is not gonna have a "facing the white stag" fairytale moment. Maybe a dove will anoint him by shitting on him IDK!
Hope the vibes of this ask aren't too bad; I'm in fact rather cheery since I'll be entertained either way!
That whole Meleys scene should be a monumental beat for all characters facing her!
Agreed! Aegon finally has his confirmation that Mother loves him. He should be obsessed with that, instead of towering over her (IDK??) Isn't that more interesting, at least? Trailing behind her like a puppy? King Chihuahua?
Like I really wonder do the writers understand the major implications for, at least, the main cast of characters? Background characters and settings such as the peasants aside for now. Like I believe you're absolutely right in your reading of Aegon by the end of EP10 as at least cooperative to a certain extent, but are the writers? IDK what it looks like inside a writing room and what it's like having to share a narrative with so many people but IDK Scoobs it's not looking that bright.......
Yeah, I expect there are going to be inconsistencies when you have many different writers, each with their different take on the characters (that's inevitable), but there should be someone in charge to even things out and keep track of them thematically. Maybe that's why we had Alicent bitchy @ Rhaenyra in one episode and then wanting to reconcile in the next, with little context/explanation in between?
If I remember correctly, Condal did say he's very interested in the reign of Aegon II so maybe they're saving Aegon-focus for his Hysterical King Arc.
I hope you're right and I hope it means he'll get something to work with.
Aegon disappears from the face of the earth and the narrative until Sunfyre hits him up again.
They could do a lot with this actually. He has to convince some Dragonstone people to take him in and care for him, defect for Rhaenyra and fight for his cause instead. That's no easy feat and could constitute for some meaty, compelling characterization. I hope they're not going to show him in a coma for 3/5s of the show. 💀
This is the perfect time to go full-Commodus!!! But there has to be some sort of progression to get there, otherwise what's the point of his arc? If he's just a flat character.
Hope the vibes of this ask aren't too bad; I'm in fact rather cheery since I'll be entertained either way!
No worries, I also aimed to be entertained. I just hope we get the best possible story. 😭

J: Write or describe an alternative ending to [insert fic]
Okay, yeah, I should have seen this coming! Anyway, this will be a really long ramble that is not very well organized.
There is certainly an AU in the works where everyone in the Greens live (except Otto and Criston because we needed some war casualties), so you will have to be satisfied with a description for now.
This AU fic would probably be tagged Angst with a Happy Ending if that is any indication of the contents. I think the prologue actually might be posted on this blog somewhere.
Basically, Elayne saves Helaena from jumping, and Rhaenyra being in a slightly better mood that specific day incidentally saves Elayne from the chopping block. Elayne gets sent to the Black Cells instead.
Aegon finds her there thanks to Tyland Lannister informing him that someone else was in the Black Cells.
The Civil War basically wraps up while Elayne recovers.
Aemond and Elayne get to resolve their unresolved emotional issues where Elayne thinks that her platonic husband abandoned her to marry someone he actually loves while she was a prisoner.
Helaena gets to surprisingly be a little mad at Aemond for the above emotional conflict. Protective! Helaena is sweet. She's still distraught about everything, but after losing Elayne and then finding her again, this jostles her into a bit of action to be protective of both Elayne and Jaehaera.
Aegon is just happy everyone is alive honestly.
Daeron's recovering from the war somewhere probably. (Since he currently has not appeared in the show, idk what to do with him)
I debated about having the dragons die here, but I decided that Dreamfyre and maybe Vhagar get to make the author's life easier due to politics.
We probably get an in-text Helaena and Elayne Valyrian wedding.
There's a subplot about Larys being a dick to Elayne. (Since I am basically spoiling the fic at this point, he's the reason that it took the Greens awhile to realize she was in the Black Cells)
The middle part is not super planned out, but the ending is the Greens trying to resolve the aftermath of a civil war.
House Tully except for Elayne gets to take the Black (RIP Kermit and Oscar). Most everyone else on the Black side is executed or taking the Black, but Aegon III specifically is forced to take the Black first and they hold all others in King's Landing before sending them North. Rhaena and Baela get to be Silent Sisters. (I debated keeping Rhaena and Baela around to explore their characters more, because they deserve it! But I feel like the Greens would land on the more pragmatic side of sending them away and having them take vows.)
Now, at the end of the fic, we have A Situation, because Jaehaera is Aegon's heir now. There are whisperings of further strife because well, Jaehaera's a girl. Aemond at this point has a son with Alys Rivers but uh... do the nobles dislike placing the son of a bastard woman on the throne. Elayne and Aemond probably eventually have the kids I imagined they'd have, Aerion and Daenys.
Aerion is probably heir to the throne according to most nobles.
I'm a little unsure how I want to resolve this issue, because everyone involved would probably not want to marry Aerion and Jaehaera given that they are practically siblings given their weird family situation, and Aegon is not down for another round of incest. He hates the idea. Elayne knows its the most pragmatic solution but also hates the idea.
I think it would be really funny if these guys literally fought a war invalidating the female claim to the throne and then put Aegon's daughter on it. True hypocrisy, love that for them. Honestly, they probably just end up putting Elayne and Aemond's son on the throne to avoid Targaryen in-fighting in future generations.
Alys' son/descendants gets Harrenhal for however long the curse and cosmic forces allow.
Elayne's daughter/descendants gets Riverrun.
The events of Westerosi history is henceworth changed (because Butterfly Effect) and we probably never get the Game of Thrones events. If we did however, I imagine Robert's Rebellion goes completely differently because House Tully is likely still closely tied to House Targaryen (while Aegon and Elayne were committed to the not doing anymore incest, I feel like there would at some points still be an effort to "keep Valyrian bloodlines pure" and House Tully and Strong would be good contenders for future Targ marriages)
Anyway at the end of this hypothetical fic, there is probably a historical excerpt to see how Elayne is remembered in Westerosi history. She would be markedly more documented than in Neither Snake nor Dragon
My stumbling block for working on this AU is that I don't want to get attached to my own interpretation of Alys Rivers, and then have her show version be completely different (I already expect this possibility with the Muppet Tullys and perhaps in some way with the Greens).
I've tried cutting Alys' appearances in the fic down to a minimum but it feels strange to do that!
Anyway, there is also The Elayne Survives the War but Ends up Dying of Winter Fever AU in 132/133 AC. It is always a thought that I think about for how absolutely unfair it is. It's such a terrible AU timeline.

ok idk if this is just self induldgent or not but
a strong girl, born between jace and luke. always been quiet, a bit beyond her years in her diplomatic decision making and problem solving. she has the repuation of being the most level headed child to have blessed the targaryen family line. the type that, if lets say aegon were to try and be mean to her s children, she would be very quiet, fair, make no fuss, and maybe have a little cry in her room if it really hurt - no need to even respond back or cause a fuss, i can just see this sensitive, well-read little child being like “its okay mother, aegon just enjoys saying mean things to everyone” type vibe. she spends most of her time just reading in the library, can also see her favouring spending time with alicent cus, despite her young age, she is emoitonlly intelligent and can see something isnt quite sitting right with alicent. will overindulge her in a bit of love, grandma ali this, grandma Ali that - "will you please braid my hair grandma Ali? i wish to braid yours too, its beautiful, i wish i had your hair"
shes not very into physical touch of words of love, not her main course of hsowing care at all. but she will gladly let her mother cradle her sometimes when she feels her mother needs it.
OKAY ONTO THE MAIN THING NOW
when theyre all still children, i can see aegon being frustrated with her because of her personalitiy, problem talks about her in the same vein as he talks about Helena. but hes also desperate to get her care too, wants to invoke any kind of emotion out of her, as long as its directed at him, he loves it - hes always found it easier to get a reaction through hate or negativity than love or care, hence why hes always a bit more cruel and poking towards her.
Aemond - im not entirely sure. could see him maybe joining in with the boys if they begin teasing her, happy to not be the epicenter of bullying, and he also fits in and feels brothership - the only time he gets to feel that because otherwise, they bully him instead.
jace and Luke are just regular sibling relationships, half the time they tease each other, the other half theyre close etcetc.
aged up, to teens/late teens now. she`s still the same - soft, wise, level headed, a touch shyer now. can see the blacks return being a bit more joyous for alicent because her sweet little grand baby is back now :) she cant wait to see what thats going to be like :) probably wants to betroth her to Aegon/aemond so she can keep her in her vicinity, she really built bonds of love and trust as a child with her.
aegon definitely makes the quips he did as a child, but now theyre a bit more lecherous, flirty, suggestive. think the dinner scene and his commetn to baela, he definately mentions that if they were betrothed, he would waste a day, and she could find herself extremely.. satisfied in her marriage to him.
aemonds a starer. he stares. shes in the library? hes staring. shes in the garden or godwoods? hes staring. this boy is a bit of a silent puppy just hoping to be in the same area as her
can see alot of taunting and teasing over her not being married/fiance to anyone yet. like how its always mentioned that jace and luke are strong, theres many many things said about her being pure, untouched, a little wife. aemond wants to trace every little freckle on her exposed upper back and collarbone when he catches them.
could be cool if jace has been trying to get her to fancy him since she hit puberty, so the three of the boys have no choice but be in the same boat - trying to figure out the key to unlocking her heart, making her desire them, sexually and romantically. What does she find attractive and how can i become that??
(also very self indulgent, but i can see them getting jealous and a bit volitile if, lets say cregan stark <3333, ever ends up catching her eye somehow. like theyre trying so hard to pick out the formula of a man youd want, spying on all the books you read, trying to see if theyre romance and what kinda guy stars in them.. just for cregan stark to rock up and, he might not even mean to, but he gets your cheeks heating up a bit. gods theyd be so pissed) cregan stark is sihtric from last kingdom in my head<3)
Damn, I love all of this so much. Such beautiful thoughts.
I love how Aemond is a starer - that had me chuckling a little too much cause it's so true.
Sweet Alicent really deserves better and maybe this is a bridge for families to begin healing. (Daemon would always be a worry tho).
Don't get me started on Cregan Stark...I can't wait to see what season 2 brings for him. I love how he doesn't mean it but she's blushing and probably following him around a little bit
