last thought before i sleep i Do fear that reading nothing but fanfiction for 4 years when i was 14-18 severely stunted my brain. this is not to say that fanfiction is bad: theres fanfics that are extremely well written, which are markers of any good authors out there- but since it relies so heavily on building off of a foundation and reforming the same work over and over they tend to follow a certain flow and pattern in plot, the way characters interact, the way dialogue and action intersect, etc etc. ive been trying to read more books now but i still find it easier to read through fanfic because instinctively, i know what to expect going forward because of my existing knowledge of the characters and the fanon. you have to wash out your brain and prepare to engage anew when youre reading a new book, which takes more effort the longer youre away from it. but thats just me and i can write a fucking paper on the ways fic marketing has its own popular checks and standards as well

Late nights thoughts, but I need to know!
In other countries, when you ask someone for their age, is it common for them to reply with or add right after, the year they were born in?
For example: «oh, I’m 99 (nini/ninenine)» or «yes I’m a 00 (nullnull/zerozero), so 22/23 years old» or «I’m 34. 89-model (åttinimodell/eightynine-model)»
I need to know of other countires do this. Or if Norwegians disagree with me and I’m just imagining it 😅😅😅

I can totally imagine season 5 being a speed run of seasons 1 and 2 Stancy-wise, where Jonathan and Steve bond and Jon is like “I need to work on myself and focus on family and I know you still love her” or whatever and then Nancy and Jon talk and lovingly break up with no fuss and then Steve and Nancy talk and Steve is like “look I am sorry about what I said in the upside down, I thought I was about to die and I know you’re with Jonathan and I don’t want to rush you and maybe we can just be friends” and she’s like “shut up and kiss me” and they have steamy pre-final battle sex, effectively bookending their arc in a symmetrical way. You just know it’s happening!

sometimes i think about how tango summoned a warden to fuck with everyone else and lose my mind a little.. enjoy
prompt list
(445 words)
After all the excitement—the running, the thrill of the others’ fear, the warden falling, Scar and Grian nearly dying—Jimmy takes one look at Tango swaying on his feet and decides it’s time for them to go inside. He pushes Tango gently towards their finished ranch and then herds everyone else off their property. The drama is done for the day and, since they can’t interrogate Tango for the details of his madness, they all leave easily.
When Jimmy enters their house, Tango is slumped against the furnace, eating a piece of steak with his eyes half-closed. Still, he visibly brightens when Jimmy enters. Jimmy feels a rush of fondness for this man, pressed against the crackling furnace to absorb as much of its heat as he can. He’s got one boot off and Jimmy kneels down to unlace the other.
“No, you don’t gotta—” Tango starts, his mouth still full, but Jimmy waves him off. He knows Tango did something to his leg underground. His own ankle twinges as he loosens Tango’s boot. Jimmy gently slides the boot off and is relieved to see nothing swollen. Tango slowly rotates his foot one way and then the other before offering Jimmy a thumbs up. “Nothing’s broken,” he says with a tired smile. He’s finished the steak now and moves away from the furnace to peel off his dusty outer layers. Jimmy sits on his heels and watches quietly.
Tango collapses on their bed, undressed, still within arms reach of Jimmy. “Are you hurt?” Jimmy asks, like he can’t feel every ache in Tango’s body, every scrape and bruise. Tango shrugs. Jimmy shuffles forwards on his knees. He gently takes Tango’s hands, the body part he felt get hurt the most throughout the day, and inspects them. Tango’s knuckles are scraped up. A callus on one of his fingers has ripped, from his pickaxe. There’s a bruise blooming on his wrist. Jimmy presses a kiss to it, before he can think better of it. Then, for good measure, he kisses Tango’s other wrist. “Thank you,” he says, holding eye contact with Tango who suddenly looks more awake, face flushed and flame-hair crackling.
“Thank you,” Jimmy repeats. “What you did with the warden—you’re incredible.”
“He didn’t get to kill anyone.” Tango mutters bitterly. “Not a super helpful use of my time, really.”
Jimmy shakes his head. “Still, that was incredible. You’re amazing.” He presses another kiss to the bruise on Tango’s wrist.
Tango looks unmoored. He clutches Jimmy’s hands tighter, like they’re his only anchor. “It was for you,” he says hoarsely. “You have to—you’ve gotta get it: it was all for you.”

We had a friend over and we were talking about fanfics and I started saying that there's not really any fandom that I'm invested in enough to search for fanfics for, and my sister asked me if that included "you know captain Hook when he's young and that little fairy" and then I had to explain to our friend (who wasn't even aware that Tinkerbell movies existed) what hookdust was, and then our friend started playing excerpts from the movie on her phone because she was curious and I just had to sit there and watch like "haha yeah, that's them alright", and then she asked why I was into this ship and I was like "haha idk they just clicked with me, can't really explain why, but also wait here's a 20 minutes powerpoint presentation with everything that makes me like them", and idk I think at some point, my soul just left my body.
