So your post having reminded me of that awful comic again I decided out of curiosity to delve into the Kataang side of the fandom to see if any of them ever talked about this comic and Aang’s behavior. Apparently the consensus over is that it’s OOC of Aang. To quote:

“I find his behavior to be very odd, too rude, self-centered and outright aggressive, especially the part when he exploded the volcano on Katara's face nearly hurting her, he was angry about Katara refusing to talk about the kiss then directed that anger into firebending which it isn't right for Aang as an Air Nomad to use the aggressive emotions to bend fire, then despite his apology which feels hollow he dismissed he was even worried about her getting burned again.

While Aang has flaws and outbursts sometimes this behavior strikes me to be unreasonable and OOC.”

Which is pretty funny to me because he literally said he’d be in the avatar state if he could over the play shipping Zuko and Katara. If he didn’t have his chakra blocked he absolutely would have gone into the avatar state and had a destructive tantrum. I wonder do they think those moments in the canon show are OOC of Aang too?

Your Ozai and Aang parallels are sadly spot on. The fandom is just too blind to see it because the narrative tells us rather than shows us he’s the hero. I really want to see into Bryke’s mind because they continue to baffle me 20 years later.

Yeah, Aang in the comics tracks with who he was in the main series. He was always self righteous, disrespectful and emotionally unregulated, but he was cute and cheerful, so a lot of people tend to overlook that. Remember how disrespectful of SWT culture he was in Bato of the Water Tribe? Yeah...that's never walked back. Of course he would make sure his only airbending child had no connection to his SWT roots. Aang is prone to tantrums, and his emotional outbursts include bending. Like you pointed out, as has been pointed out so many other times, Aang saying that he would have gone into the Avatar State over that play suggesting Katara was interested in someone other than him is a massive red flag. That whole scene on the balcony comes after the Lava Fissure incident. With that context, Katara saying she was confused instead of outright refusing Aang takes on a really dark meaning.

But people are entitled to their takes. A lot of Aang fans want to ignore the comics as canon. That's fine. I can totally relate. I ignore the comics and LoK as canon, too 😏

Let's say you're one of the writer's way back when Atla was first starting. Bryke has stepped back and let the writers do their thing. What are some things you would keep or remove completely? What are things you would have done differently? What would you have liked to explore more of with the story and the characters?

OOOH good question

I would definitely be giving South Asia, Hinduism, and Buddhism their honour back but making Desi main characters not caricatures. I will pay my respects to those religions by using them properly and not discarding them when you don't truly understand their meaning. And better representation will all the cultures.

Likewise, I would make a 4th (or maybe more) book, so we can see the healing of the 4 nations and flesh out the Gaang and other characters properly. I feel like ending it on book 3 was too sudden, and I hate the comic, so I don't even recognize those, since it is so OOC.

I would make Zuatara canon through some slow burn. I would not pair Aang up with anyone, since he is too young but keep him having a crush on Katara for the Chakra arc (which stays true and respect to Hinduism) but to provide a lesson on heartbreak and moving on. Same with Toph, such a cute little baby.

I will REMOVE those nonconsenual kisses entirely. Basically out with Kataang.

I want to see more of the evil politics of the Fire Nation before Aang defeats Ozai and how Zuko deals with it. In contrast, to how Zuko handles politics being Fire Lord.

I WANT more Suki and her backstory. I also want to see her and Ty Lee fight side by side. It would be so cool.

I would actually have Zuko and Katara speak to Azula after the Agni Kai.

I would keep Sokka's sexism arc.

Not only that, but I would love to explore Yue even more and her take on the NWT

I also want to go in depth with Mai, I want to give her some depth.

Have Aang's character understand the Mahabharat scripture before making a choice. (Maybe kill Ozai)

I want to see a healing arc for Azula

I also want Uncle Iroh to face some repercussion of being an activity member of war. I love Uncle Iroh, and I want to write the consequences and him accepting humbly due to his development.

Book 4 and (leading to adulthood) head canons for the Gaang

Katara: Helps the SWT and NWT, then goes on to become ambassador for the SWT in the Fire Nation

Zuko: Fire lord

Aang: Helping all the Nations to heal

Toph: I think she would totally be the creator of the pro-bender, you cannot change my mind, I think she would also become a teacher

Suki: Girlbossing as a Kyoshi Warriors and being known as one of the best

Sokka: Become Chief of SWT and a skilled engineer

I want Katara and Zuko to find his mother together (so we can get good development)

I feel like I have more, but I will add more if I think of any.

Your opinion on how things would have changed skillswise with Kakashi if Kanabi never happened. Would he still be Copy Ninja Kakashi or strong enough to take on opponents like Zabuza without the Sharingan?

Absolutely.

Kakashi was considered a genius of his generation long before he was gifted the Sharingan. According to the Oxford Dictionary, a genius refers to: " someone with exceptional intellectual or creative power or other natural ability." Kakashi has all three of those points in abundance, evidenced by the fact that:-

1. He graduated from the top of his class at age 5. The youngest graduate in the series to date.

2. His meteoric rise through the ninja ranks, by becoming a Chunin at age 6 and a Jonin at age 13.

3. People seem to harp on the fact that Kakashi knows a 1000 jutsu, all of which he copied with the Sharingan, therefore if you have an attack, Kakashi will most likely have a counter attack in his arsenal; and although this could be true, Kakashi's usual approach to combat (with or without a dojutsu) is to rely on the Substitution Jutsu and clone techniques, thereby keeping himself out of harm's way while he observes an opponent and their abilities. Even when he doesn't use this system of misdirection and decoys, he remains alert to any unexplained or unexpected occurrences, coming up with theories for their causes when they arise and exploiting them if they prove true--which they usually do.

Once he identifies an opponent's weakness, Kakashi can quickly formulate a plan to take advantage of it, efficiently utilising each of his allies' unique skills to that purpose. Such plans, while often elaborate and unorthodox, are typically highly successful, low risk and utilises his chakra reserves as efficiently as possible.

4. Kakashi likes to experiment and create jutsu, displaying his creativity and 'out of the box thinking'. He created Chidori, Raikiri and the purple lightening technique, always trying to limit any weaknesses in battle.

Kakashi's best asset is and will always remain his intellect and analytical skills.The Sharingan by itself was more of a hindrance at one point, since it lapped away at his average chakra reserves as he wasn't born with an Uchiha body to properly contain it. Through proper planning, endurance and rigorous training however, he always managed to work around it, to the point were he could effectively use the Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan for longer periods and at less of a strain on his body each time.

Since these attributes were something Kakashi gained at birth, I'm certain he would have turned out to be a talented shinobi, even if he wasn't gifted the Sharingan.

Naruto:

It was another day of dumb low rank missions that had him bored and annoyed to the point of almost losing his mind. He was itching for a fight, a good rescue task or whatever that could give him a sense of action and could shake off that lethargic feeling off his body. He also wanted to show off to you whom had been paired up with him that day. To say he had a crush on you was an understatement. He was most definitely head over heels for you and the only thing he wanted was to look cool… and he wasn’t gonna make it while helping villagers to harvest their crops or rescuing lost pets.

It was then, when you two were taking a break that he had what he believed was a brilliant idea to show you what he was made of. Both of you were resting under the cold shade of an apple tree and the fresh fruit was what you craved the most in that moment. “Did you know that the fruit that grows higher is the most crisp and fresh one? Let me show you.”

Feeling overly confident and making use of his newly learnt chakra flow abilities, he ran through the bark of the tree, quickly reaching the top, and standing upside down in one of the branches. Looking smug, he crossed his arms. You were looking at him amazed, but also worried at how dangerous the action looked. “Be careful! An apple is not worth you getting hurt!” It was cute how you cared about him, that made him feel even braver. “Don’t worry! I’m a pro at this!” He didn’t even finished his phrase when a loud crack erased the smile off of his face. It took him seconds to fall, together with the tree branch, on the ground. “Oh my god! Are you okay?” Quickly, you rushed and kneeled next to him, he had fallen hard but luckily a pile of fallen leaves had softened his landing. Still, he hit his head a little too hard.

With great care, you nestled his head on your thighs, cushioning him and checking for serious injuries. He suddenly felt embarrassed, after all, it was the first time you two were that close. On a whim, He didn’t calculated the distances right and rose up fast, knocking heads with you, crashing his lips against yours on the process.

It was completely accidental, yet it felt like heaven. How sweet your lips tasted, how soft they felt against his own. He swore they were like feathers, or the delicate touch of the wings of a butterfly.

Blushing furiously, he avoided your touch like you were burning him, apologizing profusely. But it was the dreamy look in your eyes that made him think that perhaps you liked it… cuz he’d be lying if he said he hated it.

Sasuke:

Nervously, he looked at himself in the mirror, adjusting his bandana, his hair and his clothes for the millionth time that afternoon. He wanted to look his best, and being ever the perfectionist, it didn’t matter how many times he stared back at his reflection, it still wasn��t right.

Despite that, he had run out of time and the knock on his door made it obvious. A familiar voice on the other side called out for him and fed his anxiety. “Oi, Sasuke, come out! The others are waiting for us!” Yelled his energetic orange friend, waiting for him outside.

It was festival day in Konoha and all the young genin had agreed to go around the stalls together to then watch the fireworks at the end of the day. He wasn’t really into that kind of stuff, but as soon as he heard you and your team were coming too, he almost jumped and joined the party.

They all met up outside of the academia to walk downtown together… and there you were, all dolled up, looking gorgeous on your kimono. You greeted him with a smile and walked right next to him, making small talk about what you were most excited to eat and enjoy.

The atmosphere was great, festive, lively. The sweet smell of the candied apples and choco bananas and the warmth of the fried food filled the air, making your stomach grumble.

Of course you rushed to one of the food stalls with a sweet treat in mind to share with your friends. It was a box of Pocky that caught your attention, so you quickly bought it, happily hopping back to find your place next to Sasuke.

He wasn’t fond of sweet stuff, but he couldn’t say no when you cutely held one of the chocolate sticks to him, jokingly placing it on your mouth, signaling him to take it from you using his own mouth. It was in a sudden rush of confidence when he obliged and bit it off almost completely, placing his lips on top of yours for a faint moment, that felt eternal for him.

If he had a ryo every time he had kissed someone on accident, he’d had exactly two, which is not much, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

The soft feeling of your lips and the sweet taste of the chocolate lingered on his mouth for the rest of the day.

Neji:

It was no secret that you liked Neji, everyone knew… everyone but him. He was adorably oblivious and that made you desperate but also, you found it terribly cute.

The truth was he liked you too, but he’d walk through hell barefoot rather than letting you know. Could he be blamed? He was stoic as a statue, talked to you as if he was talking in riddles, and trained most of the time, to actually show he felt something for you… or that he felt something at all. He was scared of being vulnerable and laying his soul bare for you and get rejected in the worst case.

That’s why your friends had to take the matters in their own hands and plan something so one of you could confess their feelings to the other.

It wasn’t perfect, it was improvised at best, but it was all they had. They all put it into work some day where you all agreed to train together and hoped for the best.

The makeshift master plan consisted in somehow placing you together during the train session, give you a little time alone so somehow you'd end up confessing or something, and gift both of you with a happily ever after. It was so dumb and childish, but again, it was the best idea out of a sea of terrible ones.

So they made it work, and the initial phase was a success. They managed to put you together and give you some private time... but what they did not expect was the complete and cold silence that installed between you as soon as you were left alone. Neji stayed as quiet as a rock, as he always did and you were so terribly nervious that you didn't know what to say. To you, the young Hyuga was like a complicated puzzle, almost imposible to solve. It made you anxious to never know what was going through his mind.

This, of course, made everyone else groan and facepalm colectively. How could two souls be so obviously in love and at the same time be so oblivious about it?!

"Ok, enough, i've had it!" Yelled Naruto in frustration, walking towards you and him, against everyone else's protests and claims for him to stop. He ended just pushing you, desperate for you to actually do something. What he did expect? not even him knew that, he was so frustrated that he didn't even think about the consecuences.

Neji reacted fast and catched you so you wouldn't fall, but all his stoic demeanor crumbled when he felt something soft and warm resting against his lips. Thanks to Naruto's careless action, you two had kissed accidentaly.

Let's say that it was more than enough to break the ice between you two.

Sakura:

Spring came by, and with its delicate blossoms, the opportunity for love was also born. This way she mustered all the courage she had and invited you on a date.

She wanted to show you the pretty cherry blossoms that inspired her name, in full bloom, spend some time with you and maybe even hold your hand!

That afternoon you strolled between the trees, walking slowly through the petals that danced in the wind. Of course they were pretty, but non of them compared to the sight you had in front of you, because she was the pretiest flower you had ever seen.

On the way, you both bought a sweet bobba tea drink and sat on a bench to enjoy the scenery.

She was cute, a little bit shy, while talking to you, waiting for the perfect opportunity to make a move and place her hand on yours. She felt nervous but oh so brave, specially when you looked at her like there was no one else in the world.

You, noticing how fidgety she was, suddenly felt sly and leaned on her, close, very close, and removed a playful petal that had tangled on her silky pink hair. After that, you leaned even more, and she was ready to let it happen, catching her breath on her throat in anticipation. She ended leting out a loud sigh when you, mischieviously, wraped your mouth around the plastic straw of her cup, having a taste of her sweet drink.

Sakura blushed furiously after noticing your smile after what you had done, feeling both angry at your smugness and incredibly embarrassed. Why did an indirect kiss felt even more corny than the actual thing?

Rock Lee:

Lee came to you one day with a new idea for training. He was constantly pushing his limits and aiming for perfection, so it wasn't rare for him to come up with weird training techniques to improve himself.

And of course he dragged you along when trying them all.

That's how you ended up in the training court, blindfolded and completely lost.

"Okay, this new technique will sharpen our senses and prepare us for even the most hard to read attacks!" he explained to you full of excitement, also blindfolding himself. You, confused, started to blindly walk, extending your hands to the air so you wouldn't bump into a tree or something. "I'm not sure about this, Lee... Is it really gonna work if we can't see anything?" You asked, wobily making your way without even knowing were you were going.

He assured you that he had everything covered, that he'd take care of you. His senses were sharp, but yours not so much. You ended up wandering in the court, completely lost meanwhile he gave you vague instructions to find your way and actually participate in the training.

Not so fun now, right? You made grabby hands, trying to follow his voice, trying not to laugh but at the same time promising your self that you'd totally strangle him as soon as you found him. And you didn't imagined you'd do so soon, bumping hard into him, grabbing him by the clothes trying not to fall and dragging him along with you.

You ended up falling with him on top of you, completely blind and with your lips crushed together.

It was an accident, totally not expected, but completely welcomed by him, of course. You never imagined your first kiss would go like that.

hello, how are you? I would like a headcanon of how Neji, Shikamaru and Sasuke would react when they found out that their partner belonged to Anbu.(Make it a girl)

hi and thanks for asking, I've been doing well! I do hope you've also being doing well. For this headcannon, I made their partner about the same age. This took a bit longer to complete, sorry, nonnie!

hc: Neji, Shikamaru and Sasuke finding out their girlfriend is in the Anbu

Neji

Neji found out quite early

to be exact, when he was out on a mission with Team Gai

it was supposed to be an easy mission, nothing above a B-Rank, but quickly turned into an A-Rank mission, bordering the qualifications for an S-Rank mission even

so, the Godaime Hokage made the decision to send a team of Anbu after Team Gai to aid them

that team included you, of course

at first, when you heard that your team was meant to assist your boyfriend's team, you were rather worried about him discovering your status as an Anbu

but as soon as you heard of the danger his team was in, all that flew out of the window for you

at that moment, all that mattered to you was bringing Neji home safe

so, off to the mission you went, your significant other the only thing on your mind

worry was harshly beating against your chest, as was fear coursing through you

as an Anbu, you were trained to keep your emotions in check and to not let them overwhelm you, and yet …

you were the total opposite of calm

but back to Neji on the mission

his Byakugan is the reason why your identity was exposed

you had been the first of the Anbu guards to jump into battle and aid the Konoha nin, specifically Neji of all people

as though you were only focused on protecting him (which you were, despite knowing very well that he was capable of protecting himself), you acted like his human shield

and because Neji was using his Byakugan, recognizing your chakra that was so familiar to him, came easy to him

the initial shock had been difficult to swallow and left him speechless for the first minute

you weren’t supposed to be here, with him, and yet there you were

it left him confused for a moment before he regained his composure and pushed the thought away to focus on fighting first

then, afterward, once he made sure that you are save, he would talk to you about it

a lot of questions were running through his mind, all concerning why you didn’t tell him

there had to be a specific reason, Neji knew there had to be, but bitterness still had him sour when he first saw you again following the incident

because when you had seen his wide-eyed gaze directed at you during the mission, you had chosen to flee instead of confronting him immediately

what took him by surprise had been you apologizing immediately, without any hesitation

you went on to explain everything and your reasoning to him as to why you found it difficult to tell him about your identity as an Anbu “and I know I should have told you sooner, but I was just so scared …”

Neji found it difficult to understand at first, because he finds honesty important, you really should have told him from the start

but at the same time, he is glad because he now knows that you are capable of protecting yourself, meaning he doesn’t have to worry about you constantly (and how could he not? you are his partner, after all, of course, he worries)

regardless of that, he is still bitter and it does take a lot of apologizing from your part to repair the trust in your relationship

as long as you do indeed put in the effort, your relationship will turn out fine

don’t hide things from him again, however

Shikamaru

similar to Neji, Shikamaru too finds out about you being an Anbu due to a mission

unlike Neji, however, it isn’t that the reveal happens on accident, but rather that you reveal yourself to him

it happens shortly after Asuma dies, at the point of time when Shikamaru decided to avenge his death with Ino and Choji

while you were there for Shikamaru, comforting him and speaking out your condolences, he did not ask you to accompany him on the mission

you did not even know about the revenge mission until you overhead the Hokage talking about it

needless to say, you were pissed off

because why wouldn’t you want to assist your boyfriend? you were capable!

so, without any rationality in your mind and just frustration driving you forward, you chose to confront Shikamaru about his decision

“Why won’t you let me help you?” you blurted out as you blocked his way

for a moment his brows furrowed before realization dawned upon him “You know”

“Of course I know, I’m your partner. I want to help you”

Shikamaru only meant well by not involving you, he wanted to keep you safe

“I can protect myself, Shika!” You told him. “I’m an Anbu, it’s what I do best!”

That was one way to reveal it, (Name), not ideal, but a way

Shikamaru is left speechless at first, especially since his mind is still clouded by grief and an excessive amount of plans on how to take down the two members of Akatsuki

bad timing, to say the least

you watch as his eyes widen and understanding crosses his features

finally, he lets out a sigh, “Relationships are such a drag,” Then, he looked at you again. “You can come along, but … don’t get hurt, alright?”

the message underlying is obvious, he doesn’t want to lose you

he has always known that you could protect yourself, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t worry about your safety

you nodded with a small smile. “I won’t. I promise.”

the mission ended a success as Team InoShikaCho could avenge their sensei

and you could stand by your boyfriend’s side as the realization dawned upon him, that he had done it

and luckily for you, the two of you stood hand in hand, with your biceps with the Anbu tattoo on it pushed against his arm, your head softly knocking against his

Sasuke

Sasuke would find that out about you after he returned to Konoha, meaning after the Fourth Shinobi War

I imagine that you, as an Anbu are one of the people who are in question when it comes to Sasuke's redemption

when it comes to choosing someone, however, most Anbu are protesting vehemently

They are all saying things about how they don't want to be the ones accompanying the last of the Uchiha or how they don't want to be alone with him

and then there is you, the obvious choice

It was no wonder that the Rokudaime Hokage chose you to accompany him

(that decision may have been biased, but at least you were willing to go with him, unlike the others)

so one day you were suddenly leaving Konoha, alongside Sasuke

at first, he was very surprised when the Hokage, also known as his former sensei, had decided to send you of all people alongside with him

because Sasuke is convinced that a member of the Anbu was supposed to come along for supervision

but you’re here, and that could only mean… wait a second

“(Name), are you part of the Anbu?” he asked.

Almost shyly, you nodded and pulled out your matching mask to show him.

“When?” Sasuke wasn’t sure if he really wanted to know, but his growing curiosity could not be tamed.

“After you left, Sasuke.” You told him

now at least it made sense as to why he had known about your identity as an Anbu, he hadn’t been there to notice, after all

“Well, I’m proud of you.” Part of his redemption journey would be telling you more of that, opening up to you more than he already attempted to. That also meant telling you how proud he was of your achievements

the smile blooming on your features was definitely worth the compliment, so Sasuke thought

(although he was a little annoyed at the fact that he had to find out this way and not by you telling him, but that was something he could look past, as part of his redemption)

Can you share some narusasu headcanons? i'm getting fed up with peoples annoying ooc interpretations

i probably have a lot of these in my headcanon tag (which is a silly tag mostly but tbh there’s also some good stuff)… anyway

looking from the foot of the bed, naruto sleeps on the right side while sasuke sleeps on the left (basically their vote2 position)

sasuke pinches naruto’s nose or pulls his ear playfully when naruto is being an idiot… like naruto is late and sasuke pinches his nose and says “oi, usuratonkachi, you’re late”

this is practically canon but naruto’s body is very warm while sasuke’s is very cold. sasuke having fire affinity doesn’t change the fact that his chakra is canonically cold while naruto’s is bright and warm. sasuke warms his hands up under naruto’s shirt and his feet in the middle of naruto’s legs. naruto calls him a bastard

i just love the idea of random intimate gestures like sasuke yawning and naruto sticking his finger inside his mouth for no reason, eating from the same chopstick when they want to try the other’s food, sasuke feeding naruto, one licking or biting the other’s cheek also for no reason, just some random casual stuff

sasuke getting overwhelmed in the beginning when they make out or have sex. naruto getting easily excited

naruto walking around shirtless. sasuke’s eyes linger. naruto goes “like what you see?”

tbh naruto is a biter. he doesn’t bite to hurt but he likes biting lol

i really don’t know which one would propose because i don’t see them being traditional in relation to weddings, i think they would just end up talking about it and saying they want to be together forever (not that they didn’t know already) and maybe buy matching rings together or another type of jewellery, like necklaces

also torn between having a private ceremony with a few people or only themselves, exchanging vows and all

competing over stupid domestic things
