You were completely and utterly exhausted–and sore. But you couldn’t remember a time in your life when you were happier.

Laying back in the hospital bed, you watched with a dazed and sleepy smile as Larissa held Ramona in her arms. A bright smile was plastered on her face, accompanied by eyes that were almost equally as tired as yours.

“I love you,” you mumble, your stare at her unwavering.

Larissa, with the baby still in her arms, walked over to you and pecked you on the lips. “I love you too, darling. And may I just say, you made quite a cute baby.”

“I have many talents,” you giggle, accepting another kiss from Larissa.

“How the hell do people use these?” you groan as you try to buckle Ramona into her carseat. “Larissa, can you help me?”

It was like magic. Since getting the carseat a few months prior, you had practiced unbuckling and buckling a babydoll into it, and every single time, only Larissa could do it.

“What the fuck??”

“Language!” Larissa joked. “There’s a baby right here!”

You rolled your eyes and made your way to the hospital bag, double checking that you had everything and more. “Oh, please. She’s two days old, Larissa. All she does is eat and poop.”

“Go lay down. Larissa and I have this.”

It was the third time you were being scolded by your sister to rest.

“Mia, no, I have to feed–”

“There is milk in the freezer,” she countered. “Trust me. We’ll be fine. Go rest.”

So, begrudgingly, you listened to her and went to bed.

With Larissa back at Nevermore and you on maternity leave, you had quite a bit of time to yourself when the baby was sleeping. This led to quite a bit of online shopping while binging seasons of new shows when you were bored. However, some of the items you had bought weren’t just for you.

It was eight when you put Ramona to bed, sleeping soundly with a full belly in the nursery. You snuck into your room, shutting the door quietly and completely ignoring Larissa who sat in bed reading her nightly chapter of the book she was reading. You made a B-line for the bathroom, excitement coursing through your veins as you dug through the cabinet under your sink.

You pulled out a skimpy set of red lingerie, knowing damn well how it’d affect Larissa. After throwing it on quickly, you opened the door to the bathroom and posed seductively. And to your satisfaction, she looked up and her mouth instantly dropped.

Larissa tossed aside her book. “Where did you get that? When did you get that?”

“Well,” you said, creeping closer, “I’ve had quite a bit of free time…” On your hands and knees, you crawled into bed and up to Larissa. “And I thought, you’ve been so helpful lately that you deserve a little…treat.”

“Three more weeks,” Larissa muttered to herself. “Three more weeks…three more weeks…”

You giggled and pressed a kiss to her lips. “Just because I have to wait three more weeks doesn’t mean you have to wait. I’m not the only one here who’s able to have a mind blowing orgasm, Larissa.”

And with that, she pulled you in for a deep and passionate kiss, holding you close and breathing heavily when she pulled away from your lips to get a few words out. “You, my love, will be the absolute death of me.”

“I’m counting on it.”

The past five years had flown by almost too quickly. With Ramona’s fifth birthday just a few days away and her starting kindergarten just a week after, yours and Larissa’s life was absolute chaos.

“Mom and Dad said they’ll be able to come over for the party,” you said from the kitchen island with a cup of coffee in your hand. “Mia said she can bring her boys over for some cake and almost every kid from Ramona’s daycare class will be here. So that’s…thirteen people coming over.”

Larissa, who was at the sink washing dishes, sighed. “Okay, so I guess we could just order a few pizzas. The kids will eat anything sweet, so we could just get a sheet cake from the market bakery. We have the pool, so that should keep everyone occupied most of the time.”

“We still need to get the decorations, though,” you said. “Ramona wants all pink. We could go tomorrow…have her pick the stuff out…take her to lunch. We need to get her some school supplies too. She starts on the 26th.”

Larissa turned the water off and dried off her hands, turning around and pouring herself a glass of wine at the island. “I think that’s a good idea. She could pick out some snacks too. Maybe a thing of soda. Between that and cake, though, these kids will have a world record sugar rush.”

“Oh, my darling,” you said, grinning into your glass. “The sugar rush will be bad, but think about the sugar crash.”

There were children everywhere and you were thankful for the backyard renovation you did a couple years prior. Multiple times, Ramona had insisted Larissa throw her in the pool and when she asked why you couldn’t do it, Ramona whined and said, “Cuz you’re taller so it’s funner! Please!!”

It was complete domestic bliss. Watching Larissa play mermaids with your daughter filled you with more joy than you could’ve imagined–especially when Larissa actually shifted a mermaid tail and all the kids went berserk.

The sun was setting when the pizza arrived and mermaid-Larissa was completely forgotten about when the kids found out it was stuffed crust pizza. The three large pizzas were absolutely devoured and the cake was practically torn to bits.

You met Larissa’s eyes across the patio, and noticing she looked horrified by the kids’ sugar rush, you mouthed, ‘Sugar crash,’ and she rolled her eyes and smiled before cleaning up empty pizza boxes and used paper plates.

Larissa groaned as she got into bed beside you and pecked you on the cheek. “I am exhausted. I don’t know how your sister does it with two kids. I could barely handle throwing Ramona in the pool twenty times.”

You paused the typing on your laptop where you were finalizing summer-school grades. You didn’t know what to say. The nausea would come and go, but you truly thought you were just sick with something a student gave you, and then you counted the days back to June. Your sister had taken Ramona for a week to give you and Larissa a little break. And that break led to a little road trip to a beach further south, which led to…a lot of sex–to put it bluntly–and a lot of experimenting.

Well it’s sooner or later, you thought. Without a word, you shut your laptop and went into the bathroom. You came back out with your hand behind your back and an uneasy look on your face.

“What is it?” Larissa asked, looking up at you.

“Well…” You let out a deep breath. “Remember in June, when we went to the beach, and we did that…thing?” Larissa still looked confused. “You know…the shapeshifting thing…That we both really liked…?”

Larissa’s eyes widened. “Oh! Yeah…What abou–”

Her words were cut short as your hand came out from behind your back, fingers clasped around a positive pregnancy test. You handed it to her, and the second she saw it, she gasped. “Are you serious?”

“You’re not mad, are you?” you asked.

Larissa beamed like the morning sun. “Mad? Darling, how could I be mad?” She got on her knees and pulled you into bed, laughing with you and pressing kisses all over your face.

“I dunno,” you shrugged. “It’s just so sudden and…unexpected.”

Larissa shook her head and kissed you firmly on the lips. “My love, some of the best things in life are sudden and unexpected.”

10. sweet-tooth

The Garden is a strange small cafe on the curb of a secondary street. It is strange in that at first glance, one reckons its hanging showers of greenery and flower vines indicate an abandoned forgotten shop or an aesthetic florist’s work, but its quaint outdoor seating arrangements of ivory white benches and chairs coupled around round tables. Its large window display showcases its black checkered floor and couches, with its name printed in glittering gold on the large front which an employee is wiping with a fiber cloth from the inside.

Azriel ducks under the pink canopy from the patient drizzle the sky occasionally peppers them with. The grey clouds are dispersed amongst the sky, occasionally passing over the sun and shading them with the trademark gloom of autumn and its crisp weather. He rakes his hand through his hair, effectively jelling it back with the moist and gives his appearance a quick run over in the window’s reflection. He pauses, for a moment, as the worker inside does her round on the glass and finishes rubbing a spot of a small hand-print off the glass. Her face appears when she lowers her hand, finding herself locking eyes with him and instantly beaming.

He smiles, yanks open the door and strides in long hurried footsteps.

“Hi,” Elain throws her arms around his shoulders, gives him a tight squeeze that he bends into as he finds himself giving them a spin.

“Hi,” he murmurs back, blinking back a sudden sting in his eyes as the flashing gratitude for having her pinches his heart. “How’re you?”

“Fine,” she says, muffled in his shoulder. “It’s a little busy today. It only calmed down ten minutes ago.”

He glances over her shoulder at the customers inside having their drinks and indulging in chatter audible over the faint background music Elain plays. He draws back, to get a more than cursory look at her face.

“The vomiting?” he asks, his eyes darting over her smile and eyes, trying to fish out a morsel of an indication to exhaustion. “Sorry I left so early.”

“It’s okay,” she shakes her head. “And the vomiting wasn’t pleasant, but more tolerable today.”

His eyes squint, finding only a slightly paler tone to her skin and perhaps faint undereye circles.

“I’m fine, really,” she reassures him. “I was wiping windows. I am very well.”

He does have to concede that. Behind them, the doorbell chimes with two new customers just off work as he is. The afternoon yields a particular rush, one post-lunchtime and pre-dinnertime where most people pick up a snack to sedate their hunger meanwhile.

“Why don’t you sit down and I’ll get those?” he offers, earning a brilliant smile that sets his heart on fire. Azriel strides over to the counter, where Cerridwen is taking the orders at the register.

He shrugs off his jacket, ties an employee green apron over his white shirt and washes his hands thoroughly in the sink. One iced-latte, matcha tea and a chocolate parfait. It is pleasant to exchange the noisiness of a news outlet’s office for the busy hum of a café; the coffee machine brewing espresso shots, the loud clink of large ice-cubes thundering their way into plastic travel cups and the ear-trickling pouring of chilled milk over ice. He likes the slow work of it, the gradual building of each drink until he clicks on the lids and slides on the café’s cupsleeves over them.

Elain runs an interesting cafe with the kind of pricing a business should not be modeled on if it wanted to stay afloat and make profit while keeping the clean crisp space it does but Elain has an infamously creative menu, with the classical options one would find in any café but presented in unique packaging and exciting colors that even has Azriel, whose poison everyday is a black coffee with one sugar, interested in trying. She markets herself well online, as well, with challenges like trying out the entire menu in a month to win a coupon that would serve two people and adding new drinks and desserts to the menu every once in a while.

She pours her heart and energy into the place, as Azriel often catches her in odd hours running the blender in the kitchen trying out new recipes or sketching new ideas of packages. She runs offers like discounts for regulars, and free delivery for certain orders. Sometimes people wanted to walk into a place and drink something new, or have something incredibly specific in mind that usually Elain catered to.

Azriel enjoys making the parfaits, even though he is not a personal fan of them and Elain really only makes for him the high-protein Greek yogurt specimens for his gym days (she has a special section in her planner on a healthy menu for fitness month in May that she’s subjecting him to sampling). He does admit it is like assembling an art’s craft, with ample room for creativity and little chance of erroring. The counter offers just as much colorful options as a crafts’ store that he finds himself straying a little off course with the assembly.

Kosssh goes the whipped cream, crackling its way out of the nozzle as he tops off the dessert. He slides the Orea cookie in place in white clouds of fluffy goodness, sticks in a KitKat bar and wafers and drizzles on a generous helping of thick chocolate syrup.

He watches Elain finish wiping the windows, as he wipes down the counters and aligns some lids and washes up dishes. She fixes chairs in place and sweeps the floor and eventually sits—nearly collapses—on a couch.

“Are there any bagels left from this morning?” he asks Cerridwen who sits at the register sipping a purple and yellow soda drink and points him towards them.

He cranks up the heat on the stove, lets the pan heat up enough before cracking an egg over it and gently scrambling it, taking care not to over cook it. Azriel pieces together a cream-cheese and onion, ham and egg bagel sandwich with the care he assembles Lego pieces and the affection he reserves for his wife alone. He takes his time lathering the cream cheese, arranges the ham carefully before topping it with the egg and gently pressing it down with the other half of the sesame bagel. Cuts it in two careful halves and plate it on a tray, with a lemon soda.

“You all-right?”

Elain looks up and opens her eyes when he announces himself only for them to widen as he puts the tray on the glass table before her. “Oh thank you,” she rushes out, so sickeningly grateful for the gesture. “Yes I am, I’m just feeling a little tired. Brain fog, you know?”

“Little fucker fucking around already?”

Elain snorts, reaching for a half and settling back comfortably. “This is really good, thank you.”

“No problem. Figured I’m best limited to arrangement of pre-prepared ingredients only after yesterday’s dinner.”

“It wasn’t that bad,” Elain tries to bandage his feelings but he’s since then given up on cooking—who fucked up pasta so spectacularly? An idiot. Even if it was prepared with the good-intention of taking the load off his newly-diagnosed wife. But Elain wasn’t complaining when they instead ordered take-out and rewatched an entire season of The Office and fed leftovers to her overweight cat.

Which reminds him, he ought to stop referring to his sesame-sized fetus with the same terminology as a disease but what did one say with regards to such matters? He hadn’t researched that far yet.

“I couldn’t eat the thing and I scarfed down Cassian’s cooking for all of college,” he replies. “Speaking of, he called. Nesta wants to throw you a baby shower. Now keep in mind this is still a surprise but he says she’s called dibs and Feyre’s claimed first-birthday rights. Just so you know.”

Elain blinks. “I’m not even two months yet.”

Azriel shrugs and crosses one leg over the other. “Besides, who even throws birthday parties for a one-year-old? They’re still blobs of incoherent nonsense, why the bother?”

Elain gives a suspicious snort which she masks with a cough.

“Sorry,” she snickers. “I just can’t help a very vivid memory of a surprise half-birthday party for a certain six-month-old and being asked to bake a specific custom cake that kept changing every fifteen minutes.”

Azriel sticks his tongue in his cheek and finds himself at loss for words.

“Ok, that’s fair enough.”

Elain laughs softly. Doris Day softly croons about dreaming a little dream of her and Azriel thinks about the different people who’ve ever sung and it and finds himself daydreaming one small such dream about assembling a beautiful crib in their apartment for their office they’re going to be turning into a nursery later. He’s thinking about this café being the after-school spot for their kid to come hang out with their friends and help out their mother. Elain will make them sweet cold smoothies at the end of spring’s term, give them hot chocolate during the fall and ginger biscuits before the winter break.

He softly smiles. Right now, here, is a fine spot to be and just as much a dream he cannot get used to, still.

Headcanons

Most of these are thanks to the questions from the wonderful @magical-imagination-kgp. If anyone else wants headcanons about Em, Dan, or a point in their relationship feel free to ask!

Em cannot tell if someone’s flirting with her. At all. Dan has pointed out more than once that someone flirted with her in front of him. But when she’s watching a girl flirt with Dan? Oh then she can tell.

Before Dan starts spending the night with her every morning involves instant coffee, and it’s whatever was on special when she went grocery shopping. Once he’s there most of the time he insists on real coffee - and calls it that. He picks up a moka pot for most mornings, but if they’re running late it’s a Nespresso machine in a cabinet that they’ll pull out. Dan’s always the one who makes her coffee in the morning, he gets up first. It’s more milk than coffee with two pumps of caramel syrup, and the constant threat of “I swear, I won’t sleep with you for a week if you use oat milk for mine!”. He doesn’t dare.

She doesn’t have any things she consciously does when she gets dressed. After she gets her underwear on she’ll brush her teeth and wash her face and then get dressed. Everything goes on right side first - her right arm, her right leg, her right shoe and sock.

The way they do chores depends on where they are and what time it is. When they spend some of the winter break in Perth it’s pretty much 50/50, and it’s the same when they settle for good at the farm. If it’s during the season everything tends to fall to Em though. She’s the one cooking because Dan can only cook breakfast, but she deliberately tries to do everything else so he can focus on driving. She wants to make sure he doesn’t have to worry about anything apart from driving and his work. He always insists on loading the dishwasher and he makes breakfast for them. Grocery shopping is usually online and Dan puts it away, but while he’s still racing Em does the rest of them.

She loves driving. Usually she’ll drive to the circuits unless it’s somewhere that it’s better for Blake to do the driving. If she and Dan are going somewhere she drives 90% of the time, he’d rather chill out and choose the music and stare at her as she drives. She is not a fan of driving his sports cars though. If she absolutely has to she will, but she’d rather something that doesn’t attract attention the same way a blue McLaren does. She didn’t learn to drive until she finished uni, and never bought a car until 2022, but she’s good at it and enjoys it. And she’s so much better at parking than Daniel. So much better. There has been teasing.

When it comes to books Em is a romance novel kind of girlie. Any crappy Kindle Unlimited tropey romance novel makes her happy. Novels in general are her thing, as long as it’s something with a happy ending and not too grim. Historical fiction and fluffy stuff are her go to. Apart from that she loves anything about art, history, comic books or graphic novels. She’d much rather her true crime on TV or in podcast form than in a book.

In case you couldn’t tell, she’s a Swiftie. Taylor is constantly top of her Spotify Wrapped, and she’s proud to call herself a swemo. Apart from Taylor it’s pop punk and classic rock. Dan got her into country but she’s not the biggest fan (although she has been known to scream sing the chorus to Penthouse by Kelsey Ballerini). She’s always more than ok with whatever he puts on the speaker, if it makes him happy then she’s happy (and if she’s really not a fan she’ll put in her earplugs, but that rarely happens).

Em doesn’t watch a lot of TV, all their travel means keeping up with shows is hard. She’s like Dan and finds the news too stressful, so she keeps BBC News and ABC News push notifications on her phone to keep up with big stories, but that’s it. Her favourite show is Criminal Minds, and between that, whatever police procedural she finds a rerun of on tv, and true crime documentaries that’s her usual TV consumption. Does Dan think it’s a bit creepy? Yes. Did he end up loving Criminal Minds too? Also yes. Em ingests a ridiculous amount of knowledge from her documentaries, more than once she can cite exactly what case they’re pulling from the headlines in a tv show. Whatever random comedy Dan’s started watching she’ll watch too.

She rarely turns on the main light on her bedroom. She has fairy lights and her nightstand lamp, and those are normally the ones on. If she needs to look for something then she will turn the other light on, and she has a lightbulb that you can change color with a phone app.

Em is really, really sensitive to textures. Everything needs to be soft or it makes her feel like she’s crawling out of her skin. Whenever Dan’s buying clothes he always asks her if she likes what he’s looking at, and he doesn’t just mean the look but how it feels. When they were finding suppliers for Ric3 they had to go through the Emmy test to make sure that she was comfortable in them. She normally is at least curled up against his clothes, if not stealing his hoodies, so if they don’t feel right then he’s not getting them. Fabrics that are an immediate no are polyester and velvet and silk. Anything that’s cosy and kind of brushed cotton or leggings type material she’ll always approve of. She also loves shiny clothes, but that’s usually because she’ll wear a thin shirt underneath just to make sure it feels good. Dan always jokes, saying she’s shining on her own and that she looks gorgeous whether she’s wearing them or nothing at all.

She loves flowers. They’re one of her favourite things. When Dan’s away at races before she’s travelling with him all the time he sends her bouquets so she’ll smile. At least one from every arrangement gets pressed so she can keep them, and she has a huge box with them in it. She doesn’t have a favourite one, she loves the symbolism behind them more than the look of them..

Em has a ton of tattoos. So many of them. She’s the person with all the tiny little ones, apart from two big ones. Each of them tells a story, but here’s the list. The Kiss by Klimt in line art on her thigh, the number 3 on her wrist, a planchette with a tiny 13 in the centre of it on her inner arm. A teeny tiny heart between her boobs, and she got the letter D on top of it. “Baby girl” written very small. Their wedding anniversary on her ring finger. A snake around her ankle. The quote “Long story short I survived” across her collarbones. A line of flowers from the top to the bottom of her spine. The first time each of her babies wrote “Mama” she got it tattooed as soon as she could. She has so many tattoos because of Dan. A sun, he wrote “I love you” on her foot and she decided to make it permanent. Two teeny tiny hearts drawn by Isaac and Isabella. She and her three Australians have a peppermint leaf tattooed on them. Over time she got the name of their kids tattooed. She also has a bouquet with birth flowers from the months she, Dan, and the kids were born. After she and Dan got back together they got the outline of the Monaco circuit on their ribs. One night when they were ridiculously drunk they did stick and pokes of a tiny messy heart on each other’s hips and they both love them so much.

I mean, the dedication to either making or finding the absolute costume, as well as everything that goes into it? He must commend you for your efforts. If you ever need anything, please go to him. The fifth born certainly has connections to get whatever his beloved wants and needs for such designs. He'll even help you!

• You can be 110% certain that there will be skincare dates. Later into the evening, after everyone is beginning to settle down for the night, the both of you retire to his room, and the pampering begins. Starting off with a lavish bath (consent is everywhere! It is very much needed no matter what), high quality soaps to wash your body and specialty shampoo (and conditioner if you need it) that is perfectly formulated just for your hair. Then scented oils to help keep skin smooth and various lotions to keep moisture in. Then, it's into the satin robes and sitting at his vanity. You both take the time to help each other with your skincare, then a nice glass of warm milk, and it's under the covers for the both of you.

• When it comes to classes, in the ones that he does share with you, you can bet he is sitting right there with you. Everyone knew of “The Lads”. The group of four lads who were always there whenever somebody was in trouble. They were the superheroes of the somewhat small town. Nobody knew their real identities; their names, their faces, their ages, but they all loved them. People had spent the last couple years trying to work out who they were, but they simply couldn’t. They kept their real lives separate.

Niall Horan, a young 16 year old boy, was possibly their biggest fan. Having grown up reading comics and watching superhero shows, he felt he knew them on a level nobody else did. He read through every story in newspapers and online about The Lads, and he dreamed of one day meeting them and becoming one of them. He knew, deep down, that would always remain a dream, but that wouldn’t deter him.

The 16 year old had no idea how wrong he was about to be…

Niall wasn’t what you would call “popular” around the town. He was constantly being beaten, screamed at, had things thrown on him, shoved aside. There was this one time where he was pushed so violently into the road, that a car had to quickly swerve out the way to avoid hitting him, and guess who got screamed at by the driver? Niall. He, who was the innocent, always got the blame for the bullies actions. Even by his own parents.

He was neglected by his family. He was lucky if he got a dinner that wasn’t scraps. He was lucky if he was able to have a somewhat warm shower. He was lucky if the water he was given wasn’t from the washing up bowl. He was simply lucky. That’s what he told himself, anyway. He was always lucky. He could be living on the streets, but he still had a roof over his head. Like, yeah, it’s not the greatest of lives, but he couldn’t complain…at least, not anymore.

That was until that fateful day. It was a chilly evening in autumn, and he had been sent to the shops by his father for more milk. He didn’t have a coat, so he wore his favourite cardigan in the hopes it would keep him warm enough to not suffer the 10 minute walk to the shop and back. But, it wasn’t just the cold he was nervous about. The street he had to walk down to get to his destination was home to his biggest bullies. Roderick and Frederick. Twin brothers 3 months his senior.

They ruled the roost around this part of town. Nobody messed with them. Nobody looked at them. They had 2 other boys in their group, Danny and Charles. They were the four biggest pains in Niall’s ass. Literally and figuratively. They weren’t afraid to leave marks on their victims, because Roderick and Frederick’s father was a police officer, and their mother a lawyer, so they were always safe.

Their father had always defended them, even going as far as to shout and scream at Niall even when he was beaten and bloody on the concrete. He just couldn’t catch a break. He knew Roderick, Frederick, Danny and Charles were anxious when it came to The Lads. They had nearly been caught by the heroes once, when they were pushing Niall around, but had managed to escape by running away before they were seen, and Niall could’ve smirked at the memory.

That was the only time Niall had seen The Lads close. They didn’t stop, they didn’t look at Niall, they didn’t even give him a passing glance, but he still was close enough he could’ve touched them. That was when his “crush” had grown. To live in a town with superheroes patrolling the streets was just incredible, and he was about to realise just how incredible it really was.

As he began his way down that particular street, he could already hear the laughter from the bullies. He hugged his cardigan tighter, and kept his head down, eyes on the ground, praying they’ll let him be this time.

No such luck.

“Oi! Bitch! What’re you doing here?!” Yelled the voice of Roderick, but Niall kept silent. He didn’t want any trouble. However, it seemed that trouble wanted him, because next thing he knew, he was shoved from behind and the concrete was getting impossibly closer to his face before he felt the air knocked out of him.

He was lying, face down, on the cold ground. He didn’t move, he knew the consequences if he did. “You answer when you’re asked a question, you dick!” Frederick growled, kicking Niall’s side, before flipping him over so he was on his back, “What’s wrong with you, huh? We’ve told you to stay away from our street, so why are you here?!”

“I-I had to g-get some milk…” Niall stuttered out, anxiously looking around for an escape. “P-please, I don’t want any trouble,” He practically whispered, tears gathering in his eyes.

The bullies just laughed and continued kicking him. This went on for what felt like hours before Niall was startled by the dizziness he began feeling after a vicious kick to the head. He cried out in pain, curling up into himself tighter than ever before. He wept silently, hoping they would finish and leave him alone very quickly.

It seemed his prayers worked, for barely a minute later, the blows stopped and the cruel sneers silenced. Niall didn’t dare move, though, he didn’t know if it was a trick, so he stayed completely still. Until he heard them.

“And what miserable excuses have you boys got for hurting a young boy like that?” It couldn’t be, Niall thought, I’m not that lucky.

“S-sirs, I-I am sor-“ He heard Roderick stutter helplessly, and if Niall wasn’t in pain and shock, he would’ve laughed.

“We don’t want your excuses, boy, we want the truth. What gives you boys the right to abuse this lad? To beat him so cruelly and so viciously that he can barely move?”

This time, Danny spoke, “E-everyone does it, s-sirs…we’re n-not the only o-ones,” He tried to explain, and when Niall lifted his head slightly, he was shocked to find his heroes, THE heroes, standing right in front of him. And, they didn’t look happy.

“You are cruel, and nasty. We will be talking to your parents about this. How dare you think this is acceptable! Get outta here, now, before we do something we’ll regret,”

Niall heard the hurried footsteps and breathed out a sigh of relief. They were gone, for now, so he could breathe again. “Are you alright, love?” Came a soft voice from above him, and he froze again, remembering who rescued him. When he looked up, he saw them. Properly. Clearly. Like angels from the sky.

“H-hi,” He squeaked, and blushed. He cursed himself, but couldn’t help but feel warm inside when The Lads chuckled fondly.

“Hi!” They chirped back, and Niall could see the way their eyes crinkled with grins behind their masks. “Can you stand, sweetheart? Where do you hurt?” One of them asked, and now two of them were crouched in front of him.

With help from two of The Lads, Niall was eventually on his feet, albeit very unsteadily. The Lads stayed close to him, the two who helped him off the ground were holding his arms gently, keeping him upright. He could feel his face flush.

“T-tanks,” He whispered, his Irish accent leaping out in his pain, “‘m Niall,” He said, smiling shyly at his heroes.

“Hiya, Niall, I’m Lou, this is Li, this is Zee, and that is H, or Haz, whichever you prefer,” The one holding onto his left arm said, pointing at each lad as he introduced them. Li was on his right, and Zee and Haz were standing in front, “We’re sorry it took us this long to get to you, we were caught up and didn’t get the signal until a few minutes ago,” Lou explained.

“I-it’s okay…it was nothing…I’m used to it,” Niall said, resignedly, sighing as he looked down. It was silent for a moment before Haz spoke.

“Would you mind if we took you back to our place? We can patch you up and make sure you’re okay,”

Niall’s heart could beat out of his chest right now. Feeling stupid, he nodded shakily, as Lou told him to hold on tight and before he knew it, he was in the air, gripping tightly to his saviour. Was his dream actually coming true?
