sonaze my beloved. sonic meeting blaze and thinking about "that strange girl". blaze hearing about some sonic all day long to the point where she starts resenting him. blaze asking cream what that sonic was like cuz she was thinking about him.

sonic meeting blaze for the second time and hesitating to fight her and trying to talk her out of it. sonic immediately checking if she's okay right after the battle meaning that he also didn't give his all to that fight in fear he might srsly hurt her. sonic understanding that she had a rough past. sonic trying to persuade her to let him help her, even mid-fight. sonic telling her to be true to herself. blaze trusting him. sonic trusting her to save cream. sonic teaching her the power of friendship, showing her how to unlock the sol emeralds' power, which she wasn't able to use until then. blaze being able to understand that her powers are a gift and not a curse, thanks to sonic.

sonic and blaze transforming to fight the eggmans. sonic and blaze stalling for time once the battle is over. sonic telling her that cream is gonna miss her, asking her if she has anything to say. blaze not saying anything cuz she's sad she has to leave them, avoiding his gaze. sonic "this is from me" moment which we will never know what meant. sonic promising to see her again even tho he knows that's almost impossible bcuz their worlds and emeralds wont allow that. sonic stretching his hand out and blaze taking it. them holding onto each other until their worlds tear them apart. sonic holding onto blaze using both hands. blaze thinking about sonic and smiling.

blaze trusting sonic with her fear of heights. sonic being impressed by her knowledge and skills. blaze saying that the emeralds brought sonic to her world for a reason. sonic not being able to finish his goodbye. shaking hands. sonic waving at her. sonic going to a world with knights and recognizing that Percival is not blaze. even tho he couldn't tell the difference for the other knights of the round table at first. sonic saving Percival and making her blush. Percival being the only one who treated sonic with respect, for lack of better term. the first one who tried to talk him out of fighting Merlina, being unable to watch him get beat up. (even if this is in Sonic's mind, he chose to think of Percival as blaze).

blaze knowing that sonic loves seaside hill. blaze visiting Sonic's world for his birthday. blaze learning to open up and trust more people and herself gradually, making more friends in the process. sonic getting giddy and excited when blaze shows up to help him. them working like a well-oiled machine. them fighting together side by side, as if they have known each other forever, even tho they haven't met that many times. sonic comforting her about her fear of heights by giving her his hand.

sonic telling her to visit them more often. sonic being excited about her using her super form. sonic losing his memory which was brought back by blaze, by her super form, which reminded him of their adventures together. of all the things they've been through. of everything he felt the first time he saw that form. blaze saying she was worried about him. sonic saying that cream misses her before she sends him to his world. sonic apologizing for having to make her fight on her vacation. sonic taking her on a date to show her his world.

it's them against the world.

What's happening with sonaze fans and why many have the need to tag sonamy and silvaze to explain why their ship is "better"?

I swear, majority of them, or are very insecure or have a superior complex

Is not the first time I see many sonaze fans use the tags of certain ships on twitter and aré one of the few ship communities who do this

I came across your IDW post about which ships have been teased in the comic so far, and something that I always find.... surprising, I guess, is that fans do not seem to notice or care just how many ones contain Sonic. One day Sonic gets carried bridal style by Shadow and bam they're bfs now it's canon Sega approved this everybody!!!!!!! The next Blaze is making googly eyes at him and Sonaze canon everybody!!!! Sonic held Lanolin's hand it's canon!!!!!!! Amy is gushing and blushing and oh my god it is totally canon!!!!!!!! (Where, funnily enough, Sonic carrying Amy bridal style elicited much less of such a reaction than Shadow carrying Sonic did in the It Is Canon Now debate, at least from what I could tell on Tumblr. Though considering this is Tumblr, I can think of some reasons, lol.) This happens in the games as well, except the fact I do feel those lean a lot less into deliberate ship teasing like the comic does.

And you know.... if there is so much to be teased in IDW and so much "canon" and every single issue at this point contains a different character for Sonic to be making his smug face at while they simp and/or get all tsundere... maybe it is a clear sign that all this means nothing and is only put in to make fans go "!!!!!! THEY APPROVED MY SHIP I AM SUPERIOR NOW TO ALL OTHER SHIPS CUZ IT IS IN OFFICIAL [*cough, cough*] MEDIA!!1!!1" as opposed to actually going anywhere for Sonic ship-wise? Not that the fans will ever realise that, sigh.

I noticed, actually. The only non-Sonic ships that so far have been teased are Whispangle (and how), Knuxamy in #62, and absolutely accidentally Staregg in the MV arc lol (I don't care how accidental it was, Staregg OTP in my heart :< starline totally wanted to clap those eggcheeks don't @ me)

I think I saw a tweet jokingly calling Sonic a slut when #63 dropped? Don't quote me on that though, I don't remember the phrasing but it was a joke about how many people he has flirted with recently lol (including the heavy Sonknux vibes of Frontiers)

(it's also funny that Sonamy gains far less traction than all those other ships lol. Maybe it's because it's almost "canon" and so not as interesting. Or maybe we know why :^) )

But yeah. I understand enjoying the crumbs of ship teasing, I really do, especially for the minor ones such as Sonaze (Sonanolin is kinda funny though lol, I doubt that one has many fans). But there's a difference between "HOLY SHIT THEY HELD HANDS THAT'S CUTE" and "HOLY SHIT THEY HELD HANDS IT'S TOTALLY CANON GUYS!!!". And cynically, the overabundance of teases involving Sonic can be explained as 1) him being the protagonist and the more interesting character to ship, to generate views and attention (only, like, 6 people cared about the Knuxamy tease and i was one of them), and 2) the dude is so irrelevant in his own comic that this is the best they can think for him. The OCs deal with a semi-serious plot, and the titular character protagonist of the massive franchise IDW Sonic is attached to is reduced to shallow fanfic fuel. Granted, I'll take slut Sonic over Preachy Pope Sonic any time of the day, but you get what I mean.

The Sonadow teasing is IMO the worst. Sonic emotionally manipulates Shadow in #6 by making leverage on the way he had been twisted to carry out Gerald's evil plans? OMG THEY'RE TOTALLY SHARING BEDROOM EYES SONIC SO WANTS TO FUCK HIS BF <3 Shadow is an utter cunt for the entirety of the Chao Racing arc? AWWWWW MY LITTLE GAY BABIESSSSSSS SONIC IS SO HAPPY TO FALL IN HIS ARMS AS SHADOW INSULTS HIMMMMM <3 NVM THAT SHADOW SAID IN #19 THAT SONIC DESERVED TO BE PAINFULLY INFECTED <3 <3 <3 And you know what I also roll my eyes at "I heart you too Shadow" from Prime, for how out of context it was taken. I didn't watch Prime in full, but I did read IDW, and there is no way you can see a healthy chemistry between Sonic and Shadow if you actually pay attention to the whole story and dialogue. ... the fact that Flynn hosted a whole Bumblekast episode dedicated to Sonadow at the end of Pride Month also doesn't help, he deliberately fanned the flames because he knew how much his fans would eat from his hand :\

As for the games, yeah, the ship teasing is usually played for laughs or subtle and understated. Amy went from comically chasing Sonic, to having more serious moments such as her hugging him in the ending of Frontiers. Knuckles and Rouge had some odd tension by the end of their arc in SA2. Sonic and Blaze had that whole "slowly holding hands" moment at the end of Rush. Sonic and Elise... yeah that one took a decade to be accepted for how prominent it is. ShTH is still the king of teasing ofc :P the series is mostly about friendship, not romantic love.

Rating system:

4/10 - I’m mostly neutral to it

10/10 or higher - I love this ship and it’s one of my favorites

Sonamy - 4.5/10

What I like: They look really good together. It’s confirmed that Sonic reciprocates but doesn’t date her because he doesn’t want to be in a relationship, so it could really easily become canon.

What I dislike: The age gap is a bit weird. They would also be fairly unhealthy in canon. If you want me to go into detail, I will.

Sonadow - 5.5/10

What I like: I’m a sucker for an rivals to lovers. Also they look pretty decent together, but not as good as Sonic and Amy. We also know that without Sonic Shadow’s character development from SA2 is reversed. Also it’s nice it has so much content.

What I dislike: Oh god the people who ship this are actual garbage at times. The shippers are some of the horniest bastards I’ve ever seen if I’m being honest. Also there are so many debates about Shadow’s age. Also with the Colors era characterization (which i despise), he seems to not like Sonic that much and seems to act like he’s always right. An example would be during the Zombot arc where he tries to run into a horde of zombots.

Sonknux - 7/10

What I like: Sonic and Knuckles are very close and worked together on several occasions. Also we see Sonic help Knuckles realize Robotnik has duped him. Also it has a good amount of angst potential. Also another rivals to lovers.

What I dislike: Oh god this would not work out in canon due to Knuckles protecting the M.E and Sonic having to fight Robotnik. Also some people see them having a fraternal bond.

Sonally - 8.5/10

What I like: We see them literally be a happy couple at points. And I don’t just like them because they’re canon, but we see them have good chemistry.

What I dislike: OH GOOD LORD THE ARCHIE COMICS GET WEIRD AND FUCK WITH THEIR RELATIONSHIP.

Sonilver - 7/10

What I like: OH GOOD LORD THEY’RE ADORABLE AT TIMES

What I dislike: OH GOOD LORD THEY WOULD NOT WORK OUT DUE TO SILVER BEING FROM THE FUTURE

Sonaze - 2/10

What I like: Sonic teaches Blaze about friendship and stuff.

What I dislike: I’ve never really had a reason for disliking them together, I just never really liked it. I don’t know why.

Sonjet - 6/10

What i like: As previously stated, I love a good rivals to lovers. Also this ship has some of the best fanart I’ve seen compared to most ships.

What I dislike: Jet is fairly underused in my opinion and I feel they would like each other but refuse to get together.

Soneggman - 0.5/10

What I like: I like enemies to lovers. Also this ship is fun when done ironically.

What I dislike: WHY!? JUST WHY!? Also Robotnik is Sonic’s dad in some continuities.

Metonic/Sonetal - 3.5/10

What I like: Again with the rivals to lovers. Also it’s just kind of a funny ship in my opinion. Also i don’t see self x self as problematic and Metal has been confirmed to have feelings so please don’t come after me for this.

What I dislike: They have no chemistry and I just think it’s a bit of an odd ship.

Sonighty - 7/10

What I like: I forgot Sonic has 50,000,000,000 rivals and I will ship him with almost every single one. Also they just seem like good friends.

What I dislike: Mighty is fairly underused and they just don’t interact enough in my opinion. Also I could see them also having a brotherly bond.

Sonourge - 5/10

What I like: I like the idea of either Sonic making Scourge a better person or Scourge making Sonic a worse person. Also I love a good enemies to lovers. As well as the fact that Sonic is a bit narcissistic at times I feel this is kind of funny.

What I dislike: This would almost definitely not work out due to them being from other universes. Also from what I know about the Archie comics Scourge is a rapist so that’s not great.

Sonic.exe x Sonic (IDK the ship name) - 0.5/10

What I like: It could be funny when done ironically. Also the whole thing about Sonic’s narcissism.

What I dislike: Oh god where do I begin. From what I know exe is a demon possessing to kill his friends in an infinite loop, why would Sonic want to date that!?

Sonangle - 0/10

What I like: I mean they’re friends in canon I guess.

What I dislike: I headcanon Tangle as a lesbian so yeah.

Sonelise: 4/10

What I like: Again, I usually like the canon ships. Also I don’t consider it problematic.

What I dislike: Elise isn’t a good character and they don’t have that much chemistry.

Sonespio - 5/10

What I like: They seem like they would make great friends.

What I dislike: This ship is rarer than hens teeth and they never interact in canon.

Sontoine - 3.5/10

What I like: I mean, they’re friends and fought for a long time together against Robotnik’s empire.

What I dislike: I just really like Bunnie and Antoine plus I just don’t see it.

Soninite - 2/10

What I like: I love an enemies to lovers and I like Infinite a lot.

What I dislike: I just personally don’t see it.

Shadamy - 3.5/10

What I like: Amy helps Shadow remember his promise to Maria and has always been kind to him.

What I dislike: Due to the whole Amy reminding Shadow of his promise to Maria thing, it makes me feel like they’re siblings for some reason and I can’t explain why. I think it’s because of Shadow and Maria basically being siblings. Also this also has a bit of a large age gap.

Silvamy - 6.5/10

What I like: I can see potential for both fluff and angst with this ship. With the right AU, they could honestly be adorable. Also Amy was able to convince Silver not to kill Sonic.

What I dislike: Silver tried to kill Sonic as previously stated. And like most ships with Silver, him being from the future could become a problem without an AU or something.

Metamy - 6.5/10

What I like: The Sonic Mania Adventures Christmas special, that’s all I have to say. Also I guess this could technically count as an enemies to lovers. Also the idea of Amy settling for somebody who looks almost identically to Sonic is kinda funny to me.

What I dislike: This would probably not work out due to Robotnik.

Blazamy - 9/10

What I like: The fan content is adorable. They also just seem to be good friends.

What I dislike: They barely interact in canon.

Teknamy - 9.5/10

What I like: I think I just like most of the canon ships. Also they are extremely close from what I know and went on many adventures together.

What I dislike: WHY WON’T SEGA ACKNOWLEDGE THEM!?

Knuxamy - 2/10

What I like: I like the idea of them training together or something.

What I dislike: I see them as siblings and that age gap is a bit too big.

Mephamy - 0/10

What I dislike: Pretty much any ship with Mephiles would be REALLY unhealthy if not abusive. This includes Mephamy.

Honamy - 5.5/10

What I like: Amy looks up to Honey and they seem to get a long rather well.

What I dislike: Again with a bit of a large age gap.

Sticksamy - 6/10

What I like: They are incredibly close and their dynamic is fun.

What I dislike: Sonic Boom as a whole wasn’t great and Sticks is fairly similar to Marine.

Surgeamy - 6/10

What I like: IDK why I like this ship. I think the idea of Surge “stealing Sonic’s girl” is funny. I also like the idea of Surge envying Amy’s ability to fight.

What I dislike: They have literally never interacted in canon. Plus from what I know Surge isn’t really ready for a relationship at this point.

Tikamy - 6.5

What I like: I feel they would get along really well and agree on a lot of things.

What I dislike: They literally cannot meet for several reasons.

Silvaze - 6.5/10

What I like: They have known each other for who knows how long and this is the only ship with Silver that could feasibly work out.

What I dislike: A lot of people see them as siblings and/or headcanon them both as gay. Also Blaze dies in 06.

Silvikal - 6.5/10

What I like: It’s technically possible for them to meet due to Silver time traveling. Plus they would probably agree on a lot of things.

What I dislike: They have never met.

Knuxilver - 8/10

What I like: OH GOD THE YEARNING AND SEPARATION

What I dislike: OH GOD THE YEARNING AND SEPARATION

Mephilver - 0/10

What I dislike: Mephiles literally tricks Silver into nearly killing Sonic, need I say more?

What I like: We know they are close and even live together.

What I dislike: I see them as siblings personally.

What I like: We have seen Espio calm Shadow down and I would love to see them train together.

What I dislike: They barely interact and the ship is super rare.

Knuxadow - 7.5/10

What I like: Again, I would love to see them train together. Plus them and Sonic is my OT3.

What I dislike: From what I know they fight a lot in canon.

Infinadow - 0/10

What I dislike: Shadow literally killed Infinite’s whole team. This wouldn’t be healthy in the slightest.

What I like: The content is decent and I feel like they would get a long a lot.

What I like: The content is decent and they seem to have been on good terms at some point in the comics.

What I dislike: We see them be put into an arranged marriage and it is completely loveless and I’m pretty sure Shadow ends doing some pretty crazy shit, why would you like them as a couple after seeing that?

For the fandom ask game, for Tiger & Bunny: could I please have 1, 3, 12, 22 for *rolls mental dice* Antonio and Ryan, and 23, please? 😊🩷

Alrighty! 1: OTP This is honestly a tricky one for both men, and people may be surprised by the answer. Who I pair Antonio with may change later since I still need to read the Manga, but I do picture him as having a 'buried so deep he doesn't acknowledge it' crush on Kotetsu and used to have one on Tomoe as well but of course kept his lips shut (which also answers the OT3 question for him as well haha). With *just* the anime taken into account, his crush on Agnes isn't belivable, you 100% need supplementary material to even have his 'I'm trying to get *Agnes* a gift' thing at the end of S2 come across as believable and not just a cheap expectation divergence for the sake of it. So right now it's kind of, no OTP for him, but Antonio/Kotetsu is crammed into a little box in the corner in my head. As for Ryan, I don't ship him with anyone too strongly bc the only 'older' (aka mid 30s at youngest in my head) women in the show are Agnes and Nathan, and whilst either could be interesting in theory I don't think it would work out for either of them lol. I'm a Ryan Milf Hunter truther, meaning I don't ship him with Karina at all. Like, I dunno man, him flirting with her mother right in front of her is kinda sending clear signals to me. Someone please write Golden Ryan x MILF!Reader fics I think that would be funny.

3: NoTP This one is also tricky. I classify a NOTP as something that is able to render me physically uncomfortable if discussed, which aside from some generally obvious child / adult ships and similar ships in here, I don't think I have that reaction to anything. Closest is for Antonio is that I think Ivan is allowed to have a crush on him but Antonio would like, nephew-zone him, much like how Kotetsu has niece-zoned Karina at least twice now. And similarly while not exactly an NOTP for Ryan, I again just don't see him with Karina, she's not in the age bracket he's interested in; too young.

12: Funniest/Craziest AU? Honestly there's not a lot of AUs I can think of that revolve specifically around a character. Antonio has a bit of a sad one I have saved for him so it's not applicable here, but for Ryan I *did* write a fic where he and Ivan go to the beach bc he wants to help Ivan 'hunt for babes', that was pretty fun to write. Molly comes with, btw. But I don't consider that an AU bc I tried to keep it canon compliant, so...yeah, don't have much for ryan, at the moment.

22: Give us a HC Antonio - He's secretly semi-fluent in Japanese because he wanted to learn due to being friends with Kotetsu and Tomoe and wanting to communicate with them in private when in public (at least when in Sternbild). Ryan - Everyone seems to make fun of just how *fake* of a shade of yellow his hair is, but it's also very hard to get it to that colour if your hair is naturally dark (everyone remember Morita's The Live Incident? Bleached his hair so hard by best he could achieve was some cherry red-brown). Naturally, Ryan is a Platinum Blond like Ivan is, but with the colour being so un-vibrant combined with Ryan's desire to stand out, he dyes it a horrific yellow.

23: Has Fav ship changed overtime? Across all fandoms and my time being alive, certainly. As a young kid I got into Avatar, as one does, and something both outright turned me off from Katara with Aang and hooked me on Katara with Zuko. I don't know, I think it's just a difference of how chemistry can be forced in terms of writing. Tunnel of Love is the bane of like 8yo me's existence is all i'm gonna say.

Next I moved onto sonic and oh man there were so many goddamn ships. Sticking strictly to Canon on Canon, I think my first fav sonic ship was Tails and Cream, and currently it's Sonic with either Blaze or Knuckles (though for Sonaze specifically I view it as starcrossed and I do have a fic idea on exploring that *evil laughs*). If anyone wants a thicker rundown of the sonic ship timeline feel free to ask for 23 again and state sonic only lolll

Then I caved into despair like lord Enoshima would have wanted and got a double whammy of Hetalia and Danganronpa around the same timeframe. For Hetalia, you can rip the old bickering married couple of France and England from my cold dead hands, and then I had several for Danganronpa but the one I think I championed for the hardest out of sheer 'it's getting drowned out by the less interesting shit' was Shuichi x Kaito. Like, my guys, Shuichi catches HIS GAY THOUGHTS ON KAITO IN THE MIDDLE OF AN FTE. I genuinely don't know how other ships have stronger bases bc of that one moment. But also, that would require the DR fandom to know how to read, so (/j).

And then came Persona 5. So many good ships in here, I still adore stuff like Joker with both Yusuke and Ryuji, and I also got a soft spot for Ryuji with Yusuke or Haru. (In fact I have an AU fic I promise I havent abandoned abt Ryukita. The two men are early 20s in the fic with jobs and Ryuji is even a single father.)

And now we arrive at present time, where these petty argument idiots have taken over my brain, send help. Honourable mention will have to go to Keith with Cis bc that episode completley destroyed me it's like a brain worm and I cannot pluck it out.

*sigh*...Okay. Just to start, I don't have Twitter, I just want to see some Sonamy fanart so I log into Twitter via the web, but I don't have an account and for now I don't want one. But I just saw something there that made me ANGRY, FOR GOD'S SAKE.

A guy there who ships Sonails went there and put the # Sonamy and said that it is not canon and that Sonails is more and etc.

I just want to clarify one thing here: Dude, Tails is a CHILD, AND SONIC IS A TEENAGER! THEY ARE 7/8 YEARS DIFFERENT BECAUSE TAILS IS 8 YEARS OLD AND SONIC 15/16! And another thing, Sega has already made it clear that the two have a SIBLINGS relationship! NOT ONLY ON THE SONIC CHANNEL WEBSITE, BUT ALSO ON FRONTIERS! SONIC CALLS HIM LITTLE BRO, MAN!

Then people keep canceling him and cursing and etc, but he is shipping A PERSON OF 15/16 WITH A PERSON OF 8!

"Ain, but the ages were erased and this and that-" FUCK THIS! TAILS IS STILL CONSIDERED A CHILD AND SONIC A FUCKING TEENAGER!

Look, if you ship Sonails, I can't say anything, but please, I saw that account on top of that POSTS NSFW THING FROM TAILS MAN! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

If you ship Sonails, at least post something cute about them, NOT NSFW! I hate Sonails but if you ship why don't you stay there with your # Sonails and leave SONAMY AND THE OTHER SHIPPS ALONE?!?!?! I SAW HE ALSO SHIPPED SHADAILS, FUCK WHAT THE HELL-

Now, I'm going to talk a little about Sonamy here: Sonamy is my favorite shipp, and many people I see also love Sonamy and are good there with the other shipps, then a guy who ships an 8-year-old CHILD with a 15/16-year-old TEENAGE puts there that his shipp is rather than because they have more chemistry, etc etc, and that Sonamy is wrong and creepy and pedophile, when Sonamy is only like 3 years apart and that the two apparently have feelings for each other (Amy we already knows she does, Sonic it's just showing more and more) and Sega also ships them but doesn't want to do anything with it for the time being, and Sonails is already obviously clear that the two consider themselves siblings not only in Sonic Channel, but in games as well.

Then we Sonamy supporters saw the # and we go there and defend our shipp, and he PLAYS INNOCENT AND DOES NSFW! HOLY SHIT!

If he put another # from another shipp too and said that Sonails is better, I'm sure the other shippers would also defend their own shipp, be it Shadamy, Silvaze, Taiream, Sonaze, etc. Look man, Sonails is way more wrong than Sonamy. Sure, Sonamy also has NSFW, but what ship doesn't? The problem is shipping A MINOR WITH A ADOLESCENT, ALMOST PRE-ADULT!

So why doesn't everyone keep quiet with their own shipp instead of attacking others who are quiet? Like, Sonally and Sonamy fans are learning to get along already. Of course, there may be one person or another who still fight over which one is the best, but people nowadays are already learning to get along with each other, so please, can't we be quiet with our own ships?

Whoo okay, I know I said two cents but I'm gonna give you a dollar. Only because this ship makes 100% cents (I'm sorry lmao)

Abcense is to love what wind is to fire, it extinguishes the small and kindles the great

Sonic, in almost every sense, makes Blaze burn Brighter. Whether it is wind fueling the flames, or the beauty of Sonic (and his friends) helping her control the emeralds and become Burning Blaze.

After her first transformation, I always imagine Blaze looking at herself in awe, with Sonic gazing at her and reminiscing about the first time he transformed. I'm in love with their kinship.

Sonic has done nothing but raise her up, teaching her to trust. No matter how many times she fought back, he was still there with a smile, wanting to help.

Even when they actually fought, I like to think that Sonic only fought back in the same way that he fought Chaos. He opened her heart.

Unwanted Contact

Blaze, being a person of solitude, strikes me as a person that doesn't care much for touch. She'll happily give a hand shake as thanks or a hug just for Cream and Marine, but she keeps to herself mainly.

Now she is almost always seen holding hands with sonic and I'm all for it. It's affirmation of the trust they share.

With all their hand holding and trust, it makes this panel more impactful for me. I don't think she would lean in that close to anybody, but it just shows how comfortable she is with Sonic. (Also look at that lil blush!)

This final scene in Sonic Rush lives rent free in my head. The fact that Sonic clings on with his other hand shocks me. He knows what's at stake if they don't seperate, and yet he still holds on. Sonic doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeve, but he definitely shows it through his actions. He doesn't want her to leave.

The Tragedy

Ah yes, the nitty gritty, the stuff that makes it canon for me.

The two are different sides of the same coin. Guardians with amazing abilities who kick ass and take names. The difference? Sonic is free, he's not duty bound. Blaze doesn't live a bad life, but I'd bet it's not the one she wants. There's an envy she has for the blue dude.

Blaze sees her pyrokenesis as a curse, Sonic sees his as a gift, something that grants him freedom. Sonic lives life to his fullest, while Blaze has a whole ass kingdom to run.

I wholeheartedly believe that there's feelings for each other in canon, but what makes it work is the wall between them. They can't stay together, it wouldn't work for multie reasons. Blaze can't abandon her kingdom, Sonic wouldn't want to rule, and oh yeah, the likelihood of dimensional demolition.

Sonic isn't a character who should be in a relationship, it's not his style. If he were in a relationship, it would have to be with someone who allows him his freedom, and could keep up with him. In fact, it's why I ship Sonadow (ooh just wait until I start talking about that).

Shadow and Blaze are people who would keep up with him and keep to themselves at the same time. However, as I said, the wall between Sonic and Blaze is what makes the feelings real for me. It keeps the characters in their lines without changing things.

I randomly share my Sonic Shipping preferences

Cause despite how predictable my OTPs its fun to talk bout dyanimcs and expose my shipping types lol.

OTPS:

Sonamy: top of the list, my ride and die pairing. Fun teasing dynamic both romantic and platonic sense, one of slow burn kind of relationship that really works for me. Have my specific tics for how they would act but I’m flexiable and cute fanart is cute. The one pairing that I feel Sonic can settle with while still staying true to his lifestyle.

Knuxouge: the funny back and forth tension one which I feel can go in many direction. It strange on the outset I feel they wouldn’t work long term but trying to see how they can is pretty fun. I feel its self explanatory for a cat thief type of pair its surpirsely wholesome.

Tailsmo: the one Tails pairing I will vibe with as I cry. Also only one in a canon that has good euongh screentime for us to grow attach too. (I dunno why Tails gets shipped alot in alternate canons) Some childhood biased since I wish Cosmo was better utilized than she was but I won’t deny their cute moments were one of the most mermorable parts of that anime. I’m also conflicted in I do want them to be happy but the tragic end in the anime and the angst is iconic euongh to not deny it. The idea of single dad Tails is good tho.

Whispangle: classic opposites attract pairing and I can take in either planotic or romantic. not much else to say.

The Fun ones:

Sonknux: The superior male pairing for Sonic. Don’t share this one as much on main since I do see it as a bromance first and foremost but I think bout any other day. The chocolate to my Sonamy’s vanilla in having silmilar fun dynamic vibes and Sonic bring Knuckles out of his shell. Shame not alot more serious art of this one but Sonic Movie 2 helped in the cute fanart department.

Sonaze: Alot this comes from teenage nostagia since i was really into this pairing as a young teen. Nowadays I lean more torwards platonic with the pair but I will still enjoy the occassionial cute fanart. The fighting equals and badass teamup is the appeal for me as well as Sonic Rush being my first sonic game. Can be jarring if art is lovey doey cause I don’t see them like that at all.

Sallicole: Putting this one here as special mention cause I do enjoy them even if its now in a dead canon. (add Buntonie around same I guess) The Stargazing and Spark of Life storyline is mermorable and what makes them stick for me and I think I do slightly prefer them over Whispangle at times. Funny how they work so much in a smaller timespan compare the many years they keep trying to make Sonally work.

Sliaze: This one unfortunatly falls down the hardest when the game that somewhat establishes a bond is quickly retconned. Aside from the whole “hey we’re from different times let’s bond” the garden story from IDW annual like the only other time I feel something. More so this paring is fueled by just pairing cause 06 was a thing but nevertheless I won’t deny the cute fanart and fan interpretations.

Stobotnik: this pairing I don’t search for really but something wrong with you if your not “there is no heterosexual explationation for this”. I find it funny how the staregg ships dies as soon as Agent Stone got more traction.

Somina: Putting this rarepair one out of spite cause as OC-ness at it is to make a love interest with the same power as Sonic it had chemistry potiential. Mina kinda a fave for him and the idea of Sonic with a popstar I feel can vibe with him alot. Just a shame this was just made for a love triangle for Sonally and Mina was quickly discarded and put with an asshole boyfriend.

Shadamy: Do enjoy the classic bubbly girl and jerk with a heart of gold type for this one and SA2 was a good foundation if you wanna go that route. A bit soiled thanks to stupid love triangles and sonic mischaracterization in early years while not really vibing for shadow charactization is most of these fanarts. Still I can enjoy it once and awhile.

Sonadow: this one barely made this tier as I can vibe with it on a SPECIFIC type of intepretation. I like it when its not as lovey doey and Shadow is alot more subtle in his affections, I can appreciate that. Unfortunately this one been spoils for me with overexposure and popular interpretation I don’t jive with. A point of feeling apathy over a popular ship 90% of the time.

usually neutral but have thoughts:

Vectilla: Sometimes can fall into the fun tier. the crush is cute and its nice for a good adult relationship in this series. Go back and forth whether if it can even work in long run but I dont have as strong feelings to care as much.

Blazamy: I nearly forgot to put this one here which I feel disquailfies it from fun tier but I do like the Madoka and Homura asetheic in the fanart. The female pairing I would vibe with but more of a fluff over substance ship.

Vecispo: I can see why but I’m more in planoic life partners vibe, I do enjoy the two dads ans a kid jokes tho.

Silvamy: only Plantonic for me, the shippers seen nice tho.

Sonally: too much pro and cons revolving around this one that just shrug. I can understand the appeal of the dynamic but satam and espcially Archie nonsense really test you if you actually enjoy it. Uilmately agree with not liking the idea of Sally anchoring Sonic down so I just stick with friends. Can enjoy it if I’m in the mood sometimes tho.

Shadouge: remembering enjoying this one when I was younger but doesn’t have the nostagic power like Sonaze to make me care as much. shippers are chill tho.

Tailsream: funny thing is I feel I can think of a dynamic that may work for them, but lack of canon interaction and not finding a good fanon interpretation makes this a boring pair the spares ship.

Surgamy: this should never work in canon but the “steal yo girl” energy from this ship that I accept one guilty pleasure.

Oh Sonamy is easily my favorite. Those two were literally made for each other. (In one way or another.)

I think Sonaze is also pretty neat. I like the contrast between their personalities.

There are not many ships I like in the sonic series unfortunately, despite it being my favorite game series.

Wow, I was NOT expecting to get so many of these! I figured it'd just be Shadow and Amy and that's it. Thank you!

Bisexual.

2: otp

Silvaze is definitely at the top. Sonaze is great, and I like her having a one-sided soft spot for Amy, too, but nothing beats the serious, dedicated dynamic I saw from Silver and Blaze in '06.

3: brotp

Silver again. She's arguably closer to Cream, but Cream just isn't a "bro," lol.

4: notp

Hmm...I guess her and Shadow. They're similar in some ways, but I just don't see any fun in that relationship.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head

Many would assume that Blaze and Big wouldn't get along because they're very different on the surface, but at the end of the day, they're both cats--purple cats, even. Sometimes Blaze sits and relaxes with him while he goes fishing, and they take naps by the water. They'd both love the taste of fish, too, so it would work well. They're both friends with Amy and Cream, so it makes sense. Have they ever interacted in canon?

6: one way in which I relate to this character

I'm introverted and often do things myself rather than relying on others. I had a few too many frustrating group projects in school.

7: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

Maybe it's because I don't know her as well as the other characters, but I honestly can't think of anything. This fantastic video even refers to her as "the least-ruined Sonic character of the Colors era," which is hilarious and depressing. (Psst--that creator has awesome videos for Shadow and Amy, too.)

8: cinnamon roll or problematic fave?

Cinnamon roll. It's hard to argue with Blaze, and I'd love to see more from her.

Sexuality headcanon

Bi ace and greyromantic. This is where my self projection peaked. I say bi even though I only ship him w male characters cos in theory I like the dynamic of sonaze and sonally, I just have other ships for them. Also he just has bi vibes. As for the aspec, like obviously he shows distaste at Amy's affection a solid 80% of the time; he's just not particularly one for romance.

Sonjet and sonadow. Or both. Solve your ship wars with an ot3. It's funny actually cos these were two of my least favourite ships until a few months ago. Sonadow was a gradual thing. Started to get more neutral to it after the Chao Races Badnik Bases arc of IDW; don't actually remember why I started liking it but it was after Sonjet. Started liking sonjet after watching a riders 2 playthrough and there was no going back.

Brotp

Team Sonic+Amy definitely, Blaze and Silver as well. Silver especially after that last Sonic Channel story.

Aside from the obvious ones, sonamy maybe? I see where people are coming from, and it did use to be my my otp, but I didn't really like the age gap, and there's certain aspects of it that put me off as well. I also don't like sonfinite.

First headcanon that pops in my head

His parents are dead - everyone knows that. What they don't know is they actually died a lot closer to the present that they think. Let's say 4-5 years before where the games are now. Tails knows this, but everyone else assumes that he can't really remember them because he never talks about them. Ever. It's not a good topic for him.

One way in which I relate to to this character

Swearing in front of children is sadly the only similarity I have with him.

So to try to understand, you think Sonaze would realistically be like a relationship where they aren't necessarily "Together", like no marriage or labels and whatnot, but are committed to each other right? Sorry if this comes off rude, just trying to understand!

i think, if we were to apply sonaze in the canon, they would avoid labels. they come to an understanding of their feelings towards one another. maybe they never confess it. maybe they do. but they'll both know either way.

sonic wouldn't like the label. he just wants to have fun but not restrict himself. at first he'd be scared of it. maybe after a while, after getting used to his emotions around blaze, maybe he'd consider putting a label on their relationship but he doesn't deem it important cuz it's the emotions and the people involved that count, not a name.

likewise, blaze doesn't have a problem with the label. in any other case, she would have preferred one because she likes being straightforward, without too many complications (all her relationships with people are complicated enough as it is). but it's sonic. she respects it and understands him. besides, she knows that them turning "official" will most likely end up in sonic becoming something he's not fully content with: a prince, a king. and blaze doesn't want to deprive him of the freedom she wishes she also had.

so, at first it's them acknowledging. then, some flirting here and there, a few "dates" (sonic just hangs out with blaze more than usual and he likes that). eventually, they'll confess (I guess) and that will be their reality until sonic takes a step back and suggests they become "a thing" (guys, please bear with me, idk how relationships work, please) but I don't think Blaze agrees, even though she feels happy he even suggested it.

So, their friends pick up on that, they just let them be. Sonic and Blaze would enjoy having some time alone, on their separate worlds, each to their own obligations. They meet once in a while, they don't live together and that adds to the thrill of their meetups. Neither of them know how this will go long term but do they really care? No, not really.

The ask wasn't offensive at all and I hope I made myself a little bit clearer than before? It's hrd to explain exactly how I've thought about this but idk none of my thoughts make sense really.

Ah, thank you! This is not a ship I usually seek out content for, so it was a bit of a challenge, but I like trying new things! I hope I did not disappoint more hardcore fans too much lol

Send me characters and a prompt and I’ll write you a drabble

“I told you, I’m fine” Sonic said, and then winched as fingers dug into a especially nasty bruise on his right side.

"You look pretty banged up, for being fine.” An impassible look on her face , Blaze kept on patching him up, unmoved by his plight even as the tightening of bandages made him flinch once more.

As a rule, Blaze was not very delicate a healer. Efficient, yes: she cleaned injuries and spread salves like she did everything else - calmly and precisely and with a surety that spoke of years of experience. She was never purposefully cruel, nor did she enjoy making him suffer more than necessary, which was why Sonic trusted her in this, just as he did in many other circumstances.

But she did not take particular pity of his whining, either.

“Perhaps you should consider not being so reckless when you fight, next time” she went on, voice still even and matter-of-factly. A less accustomed listener would have thought she was being serious.

Sonic, though, only groaned in response. “Next you’ll tell me to stop saving the world, too.”

He swiveled around to look her in the eyes. They were sitting down, a rare moment alone between the latest skirmish with Eggman and the responsibilities that would soon sweep the both of them away again.

They didn’t often have a chance like this. They wouldn’t have had this one either, had Sonic tended to his own injuries as he usually did - but they’d learned soon enough to seize an opportunity when it came their way.

“And you’re almost as bad as me anyway” he added with an impish grin. “When it comes to taking risks, that is. You’re just better at not letting robots slam into you at full speed.”

“That’s called being aware of my own abilities” Blaze replied. But there was a cheeky glint in her eyes as well, and he was regaled with one of her rare smiles, small though it was.

She tugged at the bandages again. “Now stop squirming, or we’ll be here all day.”

“Yeah, go on, keep pretending you don’t like having me in your clutches” Sonic said, but he turned back around obligingly, relishing in the quietness of the day and the comforting feeling of her hands on his body.

It was not much, and it would likely not last long. But nobody said they couldn’t enjoy it, in the meantime.

HOW ‘ROMANTIC’ ARE THEY?: Not at all; at least, not knowingly. Sonic is a very idly affectionate person. Not the type to go into things for the romantic intent. Rather, he’s sorta naturally charming. He’ll take you on a midnight run to some remote beach with a clear sky and bright stars and it won’t click as romantic to him. Silly boy.

IDEAL PHYSICAL TRAITS: Sonic sorta loves everyone? He’s so pan. Whether you’re soft or strong, petite or muscled, bright or dark hued! If you got a nice laugh and a bright smile, consider him enamored if he’s into you romantically.

IDEAL PERSONALITY TRAITS: Sonic is attracted to opposites. Foolishly, stubbornly; he loves to flirt and tease. Being the reason for the spark in someone’s eyes is exciting to him, and there’s nothing more attractive than someone who can return what he dishes out. It’s like a game to him, and not always one he necessarily wants to win. Sonic just likes to get a rise out of people. If you meet him at level, he’ll like that. One-up him? He’ll love that. Show him what you can do.

That being said, Sonic does enjoy the more soft edges to a potential partner as well. Life never slows down for him, and when you’re always on the go, never wavering, always fighting, you start to crave moments of clarity. Gentle hands and a kind heart can be really important to him. Not that he’d ever admit, but the ability to hide in someone he’s come to trust is incredibly nice. He’s a softie underneath all the playful jabs.

UNATTRACTIVE PHYSICAL TRAITS: NONE REALLY..? So long as you take care of yourself and put a bit of effort in, Sonic’s fine! It’s what’s on the inside that matters to him. UNATTRACTIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS: You can’t be more stubborn that him, that’s a no-no. Jokes aside though, Sonic needs someone good-hearted. He knows first-hand morality isn’t black and white, but malicious intent to any degree is an immediate turn off. If you’re needlessly mean, crude, aggressive or dishonest, he really won’t vibe.

You also need to understand his freedom. Some people are more needy than others, and Sonic gets that; he just can’t handle it personally. Sometimes he needs space, whether it’s for a few days or even a week, and his romantic partner needs to be able to hold their own whilst he’s gone. If he feels suffocated, he will leave. Clingy is just a no-go.

IDEAL DATE: Explore with him! Take a risk, go somewhere new. He loves adventure, such as his namesake, and he’d love to show a partner some of his favorite places in the world. DO THEY HAVE A TYPE?: He’ll deny it ‘till he’s blue in the face (haha), but he loves a rival type. A bad boy (and by bad boy I mean antihero). Someone to bounce off of that he can tease day in and day out? Sign him up. AVERAGE RELATIONSHIP LENGTH: If Sonic really connects with a partner and they’re happy, probably a long time!
