I am listening to the junoverse once again so that I can catch up with the series and,, dear god I forgot how much I love these episodes. Sarah Steel the most realistic depiction I have seen of and abuse and dysfunctional families?? The gut wrenching realization that the people who hurt you are people too, that not everything was their fault, that not everything is black and white. Loving someone because they are your family and hating them for what they have done to you at the same time!!! Knowing that they will always be a part of you, that they are in your blood, seeing them in the bad parts of yourself and being terrified of it. And having to accept that! Because you can’t change it no matter how hard you deny it! Recognizing cycles of abuse and putting in effort to stop them. I’m not obligated to forgive you, and I don’t forgive you, but also holding onto this anger is only hurting me and I’m not going to let you hurt me any more. Healing as an act of retaliation!!!!

Also I love the way that the unpacking of Juno’s trauma was handled. Brain surgery metaphor I love you. Juno fighting against his own mind!! using Benzaiten to depict the part of himself that still wants to live!!! And also!!!! A huge thing with childhood trauma is memory loss, which I don’t see explored a lot in media. And I adore the way it is depicted here! Bc yes! Piecing together fragments of memories is like solving a mystery! And no! You don’t know what mystery you are even solving a lot of the time!

Headcanon that Jason Grace takes his Roman history obsession to the next level, to the point where he has totally read illegal/restricted books in camp Jupiter before. Yk how there are restricted libraries? Camp Jupiter totally has tons of those only elite members can access. Jason totally exploits his position just for more history info.

Yk how annabeth said in Mark of Athena, that Jason looks like he knows way TOO much but simply doesn't tell anyone? Well he does. he has dark af secrets and tea, he'd literally be looking for an opportunity to spill all of it 👀 he has certainly read very um. Questionable things.

(another hc that annabeth is literally the only one he spills these stuff to bc she is legit the only one who gets the art of history, also, she totally bribed him for information, we know that canonically they both DID have nerdy discussions w e/o. Annabeth said in moa that Jason had described the exteriors of new Rome in perfect detail to her and how Reyna was supposed to look like, in the lost hero, those two spent hours researching about the Roman/Greek forms of gods by interrogating clovis + Piper noted how well they both debated about the Athena parthenos without any blame or hostility, just perfectly fitting their collective pieces of research information together. Ugh this friendship was such a wasted potential. It's literally no wonder that annabeth cried till she was sick for Jason's death. They weren't close friends or anything, but they intellectually respected eachother in a very healthy way, it was refreshing to read about tbh.

I don’t think I could explain in human words how much I HATE the stereotypes for Martin “The Spinners Little Boy” Blackwood.

The two main characterizations I’ve seen of him either make him a soft teddy bear who does nothing but make tea and cry, or the complete opposite and make him a blood thirty angst machine who is addicted to murder and trying to fuckinv idk break laws ( *cough* a certain yt creator *cough* )

NEITHER of these are good characterizations of him. Yes, they can be good characters, but not Martin.

Martin Blackwood is a character who grew up with a neglectful mother and a “family is blood” mentality, leaving himself to run himself ragged to take care of his only blood relation who wants nothing to do with him, ending in him with no choice but to fall into near poverty and the last choice to lie about his experience to get a half decent job. He is a character who cares so much with so little care thrown back at him. He is a character whose experience and surroundings leave him deep in isolation and loneliness. He his a character who had no choice but to learn how to manipulate himself into peoples perception as an innocent bystander with no fight, and when he’s given to chance to go all out and be vengeful for once he takes it, forcing his one trustful companion out of their comfort zone and nearly throwing their relationship off a cliff via murder.

He is a character so wrapped up in the story, that he ends up with no choice but to fall in the wreckage of his metaphorical and literal prison, holding the bleeding body of his reason for living after having to choose between his love and the world.

He is so much more than his stereotypes.
