Can't stop thinking about how Adrius, but can't stop thinking about Dadrius at the same time, so I fear I have no choice but to dump Adrian and Hunter HCs on you. Hope that's okay. If not, feel free to disregard.
First off they are the definition of trying to get along for someone else's sake. Adrian softens the tiniest bit towards Hunter after stoping the DOU, because clearly Belos was crazier than he thought. (Basilisk AU Adrian softens a lot more, because while he doesn't know all of what Hunter went through, he gets it)
Adrian has many feelings about Hunter being friends with Gus, and none of them are positive. Hunter finds it kind of funny, because it's not dissimilar to how he thought Darius would react to Hunter hanging out with the Blight kids. He tells Adrian this, and Adrian offers to throw a fit and 'play the bad guy' to give Hunter an out of hanging out with them if he feels uncomfortable with them. Hunter assures him that's not necessary. The offer still stands though.
Adrian loves movies. Hunter has never seen one. Adrian takes it upon himself to educate the boy on matter. Hunter actually really appreciates it, because he can tell Adrian a quote or reference his friends made that he didn't get and 90% of the time Adrian knows the movie.
Adrian tries and fails to teach Hunter is how to act. He does end up helping him become a decent liar though. Darius was pretty proud of them for that, though a little concerned that lying acting and movies are what they bond over.
At one point Hunter breaks down over how he looks (he can't get 'you look the most like him' out of his head) and Adrian gives him an illusion stone. Hunter considers it the kindest thing Adrian has ever done for him. He did not feel that way when he found out that he had told Darius about it. Adrien refuses to apologize because he knows from past experiences that while illusions can help with self image, they don't fix the problem. Hunter forgives him eventually. He tries to give him the stone back and Adrian tells him to keep it.
They never get super close, but they do eventually make each other list of 'poeple I care about and want to protect.'
AH Don't worry! That was literally my first thought before the episode was even out "Gay dads for Hunter! Gay dads for Hunter!"XD
And I do make them close because I am sucker for this kind of scenarious XD It won't be easy or perfect, the past biases play the part! They do start from doing it for Darius but then get to know each other on not antagonistic territory xD They all learn to be domestic <3
OHHJGHF This is actually hilarious XD Adrian not approving Gus and Darius not approving the Blight kids XD They know it's irrational(and outdated xD) but they can't help themselves XD Cue to that Turning Red scene:
Hunter: You shoud go now!
Blight kids/Gus: But Hunter-
Hunter: Go-go, my dad already doesn't like you.
Blight kids/Gus: Wait he doesn't?
I love how they bond over movies and theatricals in general! Just you wait until the human movies start to appear! Movie nights!! And there are things that Adrian doesn't know about human filmatography, and Hunter's general desire for knowledge will land them in their own movie researches! Although Adrian is not that strong(or willing) to keep himself up for hours and hours XD This is a good thing because he will wrap Hunter with his tail, rip away from his piles of books and force to sleep XD
JHG This is amazing, Adrian, Darius and Hunter were technically government workers yet they behave like potential criminals who don't do crimes just because they are content enough now to be on the side of the law XD The more specific reasons differ for each one of them, but they are literally one step away XD Adrian and Darius should teach Hunter that smug smile that promises trouble xD
And I LOVE the idea with illusion stone, especially in Basilisk AU! Even without it he and Darius stand on opposite sides of this argument, but with it this is just something Darius has to give up on(for now), because Adrian and Hunter have completely different point of view! Hunter does try to learn to accept all of himself and unfortunately Adrian's whole experience does the opposite. But they can still meet on shared links!

Top 5 TOH episodes?
5. Understanding Willow.
I love love loved the whole concept of the way memories and the mind works in the TOH universe. Was cool to see Amity and Willow’s past with each other, and have them start to clear that up. I really like how they let Willow set boundaries as well, that it wasn’t just okay everything’s fixed now, and that’s it okay to want to be friends again but still take the time to build that trust.
4. Hollow Mind.
What can I say? I wasnt joking when I said I liked how the mind worked in this show. Plus lots of backstory and plenty is revealed here. Luz finds out the truth about Belos/Philip, we learn about the golden guards, we start to see how the day of unity is gonna work, and we see the collector and what his business with Belos is. Also the scene where the first tried out the coven marks? Rare cartoon moment that actually makes me feel disturbed.
3. Agony of a Witch.
I remember being SO shocked by Lilith’s reveal, and then thinking “duh OF COURSE it was her”. I mean damn, her name means night monster she was literally the monster that cursed Eda in the night. And honestly I love it when reveals are like that? Like, just being able to go back and see the hints that led to it. Also Eda and Liliths fight?? Fucking amazing. Beautiful animation and It very much highlights just how insanely powerful Eda is, and also just how much she has come to care for Luz over the course of the whole season.
2. Keeping Up A-fear-ances.
I! Love! Clawthornes! I loved Gwen’s intro, and how they worked through her relationship with both of her daughters. It certainly explained a lot about why Eda and Lilith are the way that they are. I also just really liked seeing how Eda really appreciated having Lilith around. There’s something that’s a bit refreshing to me in the way the show handled their relationship after Lilith left the coven and stayed with Eda? Its very clear Lilith feels guilty but also that Eda loves and cares for her sister and they just want to be back in each others lives, and that can be a thing without Eda ever having to actually say she forgives Lilith. Also was very excited to see the raven beast happen, and wish we could see it again but I doubt it will. Also night market ice cream bit was fucking funny.
1. Eda’s Requiem. Immediate first episode I thought of as soon as I saw this question. It’s a really beautiful episode imo. We get a first look at an actual rebellion group. Raine is introduced!! (As well as darius and eber, letting us a start to get a glimpse into the coven heads) we get to learn about Raine and Eda’s relationship and see that these two are clearly still so in love with each other, and how Raine doesn’t know these kids in that photo with Eda, but they will be damned if they let Eda remove herself from their lives, willing to let themself get captured for Eda’s safety. We also get to see some of the horror behind the coven marks, which was cool and made for a good cliffhanger. Also the duet?? So beautiful, gorgeous animation, and makes me cry almost every time. Also, King CLAWTHORNE. The whole episode put into perspective how much Eda grew into her role as a mother, and that was just the perfect way to confirm it and reassure her.

Promo time!!!
Oooh winds
Reminds me of the The Rookie episode lol
Ooh dog :D but also hand D:
OOP lady xdd
Ohhh dang yeah, winds means fires 😬 ://
Oooh/ahhh there's Eddie doing the cross, the clip from the season trailer!!! Inch-resting 👀👀👀
Hmm so presumably someone we are least vaguely know? Or maybe just the person they were looking for, or a kid. . . Or maybe just because there's a victim ┐( ∵ )┌ idk. I feel like it's not likely to be someone we know though.
So yeah!! That's the last of my last thoughts :). Now it's time for the. . .
REVIEW
I loved this episode! I'm still mad at myself for missing half of it, but whatever, it was fun trying to connect stuff lol xD. And it wasn't TOO confusing, so that's nice xD. I do need to look up who that guy Darius is though, lol. . . Anyway! The calls were interesting, people were being icons left and right, and it was generally just fun with a big focus on love (I know it was technically fantasies but yk :) )! Loved it, good episode :D. Now onto the individual characters and calls :)).
Okay episode 9 airs in just over half an hour so let's do this! The rest was written day of I believe but nonetheless lol. Anyway! I watched the rest, and I liveblogged it, and I looked up who Darius was today xD.
So!
Eddie and Chris (plus Buck because we got Uncle Buck this ep in all the ways)! THAT WAS ADORABLE 😭😭😭. Just- your honor I love them s o m u c h. Also, Carla being a queen as always 😌😌😌. That scene after they first talked to Chris was hilarious lol. Also just, CHRIS IS GROWING UP AHHHH 😭😭😭❤️🥰🥰❤️. Help, I'm too emotional about this lol. Like that ending scene with the three of them??? Amazing. Top tier content, thank you so much xDD. He's growing up and I love him <333. Also I love how Buck was like as invested if not more than Eddie lol, amazing xD.
And Buck with Jee!!! Literally amazing 😭😭😭. And a mood too xD. Like the vibes in general, but also I am not good at taking care of children. I think Buck is, Jee's just a toddler and that's always hard, but still lol. Adorable 🥰🥰❤️❤️ <33.
Speaking of, Maddie and Chimney are getting a house!!! Or looking, anyway :DD. AHH I love them so much :))). I hope they do eventually find something, it sounds like a great storyline :). Plus I just want them too lol.
Anyway, May! She SLAYED this ep :D. I'm glad Darius is back! Yes I forgot who he was, shh, we haven't seen him since season 3 - I would know, I looked him up like, two hours ago xD. But phew, I'm glad he's okay :). That other dude was crazy, but May did great talking to him and with everything :)) <333. Just- her, your honor ❤️❤️.
Also Bobby and Athena at Darius being back but his parents being mad at him like: 😅. But they're eyeing each other lol.
Oh and that poor boy Hen kissed XDD. That scene was hilarious, lol. Plus it had all of them being like: . . . ?? -.-??? about the noise on the roof lol xD. Amazing, if second hand embarrassment inducing right afterwards.
And speaking of that (speaking of, again lol), the calls this ep we're great! Very interesting and unique, as always lol, but I would say especially this episode! Like, the one with the couple, for example, they were on their way to a different call when they ended up right in the middle of that one lol. But yeah, really cool!
Also poor Athena having to deal with that guy who fantasized about killing his boss xD. She was trying her hardest with him LOL, but he was not helping whatsoever xD. Amazing.
Overall, I really loved this episode. I thought the theme was great, there were so many hilarious scenes, and I just really liked all the storylines :). So much found family this ep :D. And just family in general! Anyway, the next episode looks veeery interesting, especially off of what I saw on the description when I glanced at it while trying to jog my memory for these two reviews lol. Apparently something about Denny wanting to know about his biological parents? I don't think that was in the promo, but it sounds super interesting 👀.
So yeah! I loved the episode, I thought it was great. And I'm interested to see what happens in the next one! This has been my review of. . .
9-1-1, Season 6, Episode 8: What's Your Fantasy?
I really enjoyed the episode! And I'm super excited for the next one, it looks like it'll be really good. I'll be back next week for my review of. . .
9-1-1, Season 6, Episode 9: Red Flag
See you then!

Here we are with Eda's Requiem! This is one I've been eagerly anticipating, thanks in no small part to one Raine Whispers. You know the drill.
Opening with Eda being a soft owl mom❤
Also, she has her own keepsake Grom photo❤❤❤
Oh, impending empty nest syndrome? (Heh, how approriate, considering she has a literal nest)
Ooh, a preview of bard magic?!
Oh, that seems...ominous...
That was an impressive flying sequence! Whatcha training for, Luz?
There they are! Raine! My beloved!
Oh my god they're adorable
Wow, Eda, you sure do sound like you definitely don't want Luz to stick around for a while longer
Guess Lilith took the brain cell with her when she left
Ah, a race! So Luz wasn't playing Grudgby after all
Boy, Eda is doing her best to avoid that particular subject, huh?
Really pushing the "apple blood = booze" angle here
Oh, hey, it's that one demon hunter lady! Makes sense they'd all be wild witches, I suppose
The bartender's name is Kevin and I don't know how to feel about that (that's my name)
Either that mask spun around or Eda's punch was powerful enough to twist his head around. In which case, damn
Oh, there's the band! Bard magic!
Even with a mask they can't get over the stage fright
(I still love them)
Also, very impressive how they can pull stuff off with singular string plucks. Guess they're the head of the Bard Coven for a reason
Bards Against the Throne. BATs. Clever!
Ah, there's the sewer scene that kept showing up in promo images
Trailer shot of Raine!
Aaand blushing at being embarrassed by Eda. Looks like they'll kill you, is actually a cinnamon roll.
Still, glad to see they're not bitter exes
Flashback time!
Fuck, the framing is so romantic, it has to be intentional
Facing your fears by punching them in the face? Sounds like Eda, all right.
Those who were hoping for blushing Eda are being fed
They really wasted an opportunity for Luz to train with Willow
"LEAN ON ME!" Let's hope Hooty doesn't cover Bill Withers anytime soon
"You're not our mom!" Give it a minute, Amber.
So food fanfic girl's name is Katya! Good to know
"Rainestorm" it's not Rainedrop, but I'll take it!
Forgot to mention: these two are so obviously yearning for each other and it's amazing
I'm sorry, but Raine summoning Eda's...mandolin(?) while lounging like that is sexy as fuck
The way the curse affects that magic is fascinating
Oh yeah: title drop!
Amber turned around quickly, didn't she?
Keep on putting that off until the last possible moment for dramatic effect
Everything about the Cup of Ephemeral Glory is hilarious
And Eda's gonna miss the whole thing, isn't she?
Where's Admiral Ackbar when you need him?! *remembers TRoS* Oh. Right. God that movie sucked.
Ooh, Abomination and Beast Keeping heads!
Also, Horde Prime is that you?
(Looked it up. That is, indeed, Keston John)
Sick burns, King
Every once in a while Luz reminds us how good she really is with those glyphs
If people weren't simping over Darius before, they will be
It's really cool to see more beast keeping and abomination magic in action, ngl
Also glad to see resourceful use of invisibility glyphs
Also also, loving the way Raine is bridal carrying Eda. They stronk, indeed.
Oh shit, utilizing the curse
Uh, Darius? Buddy? You literally turn into abomination goo. A bit of mud seems like small potatoes in comparison.
Oh shit, they're going feral
This sequence is amazing
Oh, there's the question.
Raine, you botched that quote, but I appreciate the sentiment
(God, they're cute)
Aw fuck
NOOOO GODDAMNIT RAINE
(The stage fright gag was set up to punch us in the gut, well done)
Eda is clearly devastated...and so am I💔
Oh that picture is wonderful
Somehow I had a feeling Luz wouldn't win the race
Even the vomiting? Wow, this episode is just callback central
Even Eda knows the power of social media (and her username is Badgirlcoven!)
Okay how dare they show such an adorable shot of Willow in her room (Might have to post separately about this)
Amity still rocking the purple hair
KING DAD REAL?!?!?! AND HE HAS WINGS!!!
KING CLAWTHORNE!!!😭
Much tears very cry wow
Eber is a little shit love it
Oh hi Kiki fuck off
I am very okay with Darius calling Alador a hack
KIKIMORA I WILL END YOU HSSSSSSSS
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
WHYYYYYYYYYY
I guess they're not dead?
THEY BETTER BE OKAY IN THE END I SWEAR TO THE TITAN
Wow! Loved this episode! My favorite this season, probably due to Raine! I love them! I'm a simp! I'm Raeda trash!
That aside, so many amazing moments, and the music was top notch. This show is a gift!
See you for Knock Knock Knockin' On Hooty's Door! It'll probably hit us out of nowhere, knowing how this works.
Can't wait for this post to be buried by the Comic-Con panel😆

Oh my, what could this be? Why, it’s another Ruining KISStory installment! I am officially back home for the rest of the semester, so I decided, what the hell, and finished this up for y’all! This has to be the most hilarious episode, and it’s also my absolute favorite, so prepare thyselves! Part 2 will be posted shortly! Hope you enjoooooy!!!
Tag list: @cosmicrealmofkissteria @ashestoashesvvi @kategwidt @retronova
[camera opens on Paul, who is sitting at a panel. A map of the world is hung up behind him. The sound of tuning violins plays in the background]
PAUL: Welcome to Ruining History! Today we’re gonna talk about the ascension of Darius the Great.
[camera pans out to the full panel. From left to right: Vinnie, Gene, Paul, Bruce, Ace]
BRUCE: Darius?
PAUL: Darius.
BRUCE: That’s a kinda modern name. I know like five Dariuses.
PAUL: Well, maybe they were inspired by this guy.
BRUCE: [shrugs] All of ‘em are pretty average. [panel laughs]
[intro and title card]
Tumblr media
[cuts back to panel]
PAUL: You guys know anything about Darius?
BRUCE: He’s a bass player.
PAUL: [laughs slightly] Heh, no, I mean Darius the Great.
ACE: He’s a bassist and he owes me 40 bucks. [Bruce laughs]
PAUL: He was a Persian king; he was known for uniting the Persian Empire. He’s actually thought to be the greatest Persian king. Also, I should say now: this story is not really about Darius much at all, so much as the weird chain of events that led to him becoming king.
GENE: [seriously] Is Al Capone a part of this story at all?
PAUL: [snorts] Pfft, no, Gene. This is in ancient Persia. There are a lot of characters in this one, so I decided to make models as little visual aids. [reaches under the table and takes out a small figurine labeled CYRUS THE GREAT] Now we’re gonna start with this guy, named Cyrus.
ACE: Oh, that’s a kid on Andi Mack!... Not that I watch.
[screen cuts away to a title card:
CHAPTER I:
A DEAD GUY AND HIS TWO WEIRD SONS
screen then cuts to animations as Paul narrates, while traditional Middle Eastern music plays]
PAUL [voiceover]: First, there was Cyrus the Great, founder of the Achaemenian Empire, which was sort of in this region here, in Turkey, the Middle East, and spilling into Asia. Kind of a big deal. Darius just so happened to be a distant relative of Cyrus, but the king didn’t seem to care for him. As legend tells, he had a dream about the twenty-year-old Darius, in which Darius had, quote, “wings on his shoulders, the one wing overshadowing Asia and the other Europe.” Cyrus interpreted this as a sign that Darius was plotting against him.
ACE: Pretty sure every ex-girlfriend I’ve had…
BRUCE: [nods] Yeah…
ACE: … has gotten pissed at me for doin’ something bad in a dream.
GENE: [nods] I remember that happened with Shannon once.
VINNIE: Is this the time where she banished you to the couch? [Ace laughs]
GENE: [frowns] No, that was something else.
BRUCE: Can I just say, both Cyrus and Darius look like they belong in that one Lloyd-Webber musical.
PAUL: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat?
BRUCE: Yeah, that one.
PAUL [voiceover]: But it wouldn’t really matter what Darius thought, because he was caught up in a conflict with Tomyris, the queen of the Massagetae. And after she slayed him in battle, what she did is, according to some accounts, cut his head off, then dunked it into a skin of blood like a gory Oreo, stating, “I make good my threat, and give you your fill of blood.” So… that’s it for Cyrus.
ACE: Damn!
BRUCE: What’s a skin full of blood?
PAUL: It’s like a wineskin, but with blood.
GENE and VINNIE: Ohhh.
PAUL: [picks up the Cyrus figurine] So that’s— [pulls off Cyrus’s head] —the end for Cyrus.
ACE: Oof, it came right off!
PAUL [voiceover]: Now Cyrus had two sons, Cambyses and Smerdis. Cambyses was described as, quote, “an ardent, impetuous, and self-willed boy, such as the sons of rich and powerful men are apt to become.” And Smerdis was described as… I dunno. His brother.
ACE: [bursts out laughing, as does Vinnie]
PAUL: [takes out figurines labeled CAMBYSES AND SMERDIS] So we got this guy, [holds up Cambyses] Cambyses, who’s got sort of a superior look. And Smerdis, [holds up Smerdis] who’s just sorta chill.
ACE: Me Smerdis! [panel laughs] Kinda got a Charlie Brown sorta tunic on.
PAUL: Yeah, he does. [moves Cambyses and Smerdis to be on either side of the headless Cyrus figurines] I’ll put them here with their dad.
GENE: “Oh, Papa’s head’s missing! Ha ha ha ha!”
PAUL [voiceover]: Being Cyrus’s firstborn son, Cambyses inherited the throne, and very quickly decided to invade Egypt. This made people think he was crazy; and honestly, it’s kinda fair, because he was a bit of a reckless guy. While in Egypt, for example, he asked to see their sacred bull… and then he stabbed it to death.
ACE: [bursts out laughing]
BRUCE: [laughing] Oh my god… Jesus…
ACE: That’s so funny.
VINNIE: Kind of rude. Ancient Egyptians didn’t deserve that.
PAUL: Yeah, it is rude. You show up, ask to see their sacred bull…
ACE [tapping the table] “Can I see your sacred buuuuull? I promise I won’t touch it!”
VINNIE: It would take a long time to stab a bull to death, so I bet they were just like, “Please stop stabbing our bull…”
BRUCE: [laughs] Yeah, and he’s just staring them in the eye and just— [pretends to stab. Gene laughs]
PAUL [voiceover]: Cambyses was also known for his fits of blinding rage and making rash decisions that he would later regret. Take for example, the story of Croesus. Croesus had been a close friend and counselor to Cyrus, who asked him to watch over Cambyses. With that in mind, one day Croesus decided to offer Cambyses some constructive criticism. He warned the king that he’d been treating his men cruelly. Annnnd you can probably guess what was bound to happen to him.
GENE: How so? How was he treating them cruelly?
PAUL: He was known for being really reckless. There’s one story where a guy told Cambyses that he thought he drank too much…
GENE: I’m sure it didn’t end well for that guy.
PAUL: And Cambyses went, “Okay, if that’s true, I shouldn’t be able to shoot a bow.” So he called the man’s son in, and had him stand against the wall, and he said, “If I drink too much, then I’ll probably miss this shot.” And then he shot the man’s son in the heart.
GENE: Oh…
VINNIE: The man’s son?
PAUL: Uh huh.
GENE: Oof… that’s way worse than what I was imagining. I was just imagining him being a bratty dick or something. But no, that’s worse.
PAUL: Yep.
ACE: Maybe he was aimin’ for the face, an’ he really was too drunk. [Bruce laughs]
VINNIE: [laughs] “Oh, I just meant to take out an eye.”
ACE: “Aw man, did you guys see that?!”
GENE: Or he had to play it off like that was his plan all along.
ACE: Wakes up the next morning an’ he’s like [rubs his eyes with his hands] “Ugggh, what did I do last night?” [panel laughs] “Tell me I didn’t murder anyone’s kid.”
PAUL [voiceover]: Anyway, Croesus warned the king that he’d been treating his men cruelly, and that it wasn’t a great way to keep their loyalty. Cambyses responded by telling the supportive old man that he’d always hated him. He pulled out a bow and arrow, and Croesus fled the scene.
VINNIE: Does he just have a bow and arrow on him at all times?
BRUCE: [laughing] He takes out his bow and arrow; “Where’s your son, man?” [panel laughs]
GENE: Love how this guy knew what was coming and was like, “Aw shit, it’s heart-shootin’ time! I’m gettin’ outta here!”
PAUL [voiceover]: Cambyses ordered his officers to chase after the man and kill him. They did chase after him, but knowing the mad king would likely regret having his friend killed, they instead hid Croesus away. A few days later, when, as expected, Cambyses expressed remorse over his actions, his men revealed that—surprise! Croesus was still alive! Cambyses was overjoyed. He then had those guards executed for disobeying him.
[whole panel bursts out laughing]
BRUCE: Jesus Christ!
GENE: What the fuck…
VINNIE: Literally killing the messenger!
ACE: “You’ve brought me such joy… Where’s my bow and arrow?” [panel laughs]
BRUCE: “Bring me my bow and your sons.”
PAUL [voiceover]: Anyway, back to the story. Cambyses decided to bring his brother, Smerdis, along with him to Egypt. It’s thought that Cambyses was jealous of Smerdis, and worried that if he left him alone in Persia, he might stage a coup and seize a throne. Since both brothers were away from their hometown, Cambyses left a magian in charge of keeping an eye on his palace. Magians were basically just a priestly class.
PAUL: I’ve actually got a big Persia set. [takes out a cardboard set that looks like a Persian castle]
VINNIE: Oooh, nice.
PAUL: Thank you. [takes out a figurine labeled MAGIAN and puts it in front of the Persia set]
BRUCE: Wait, so Cambyses is worried that his brother’s gonna seize the throne… so he prevents this by giving the throne to a stranger?
PAUL: I mean, I assume it was someone he trusted.
GENE: Why does—Why does the magian have red eyes? Is that a—artistic thing?
PAUL: He’s a spooky magician.
GENE: Okay.
ACE: [giggling] Or he’s just high as fuck.
GENE: [snickering] So in his free time, he’s a pothead magician.
BRUCE: All magicians are potheads.
ACE: I dunno, I always thought magicians were more cocaine guys.
PAUL: [thinks and nods] Yeah, I guess that makes sense. They’re got a lot of energy.
GENE: Not David Blaine.
ACE: Ah, yeah, that’s true.
GENE: No one’s ever had to tell David Blaine to calm down.
PAUL [voiceover]: Meanwhile, in Egypt: Cambyses had a troubling dream about Smerdis, in which he saw his brother, quote, “seated on a royal throne in Persia, his form expanded supernaturally to such a prodigious size that he touched the heavens with his head.” Fed up with Smerdis, he ordered him to skedaddle back to Persia. And then he seemed to remember why he was concerned about Smerdis being alone in Persia in the first place. So, he called upon one of his men, Prexaspes
[panel ooohs as Paul takes out a figurine labeled PREXASPES]
BRUCE: Oh wow, I didn’t know we had a stylist here!
VINNIE: That’s a great robe he’s got!
PAUL: [looks at the camera] Full disclosure: none of these drawings are historically accurate.
BRUCE: [looks at the camera] All of these drawings are historically accurate.
ACE: They might be. Prove ‘im wrong.
PAUL: Prove me wrong!
PAUL [voiceover]: Cambyses called upon one of his men, Prexaspes, to track down Smerdis and secretly assassinate him. Prexaspes would do so, and he succeeded. He returned to the king and gave him the good news: Smerdis, his one serious threat to his power, was now dead.
PAUL: Also, [laughs] I don’t know where this fits in the story, but Prexaspes was the guy whose son was killed by Cambyses.
ACE: No way?! [bursts out laughing as the rest of the panel laughs]
GENE: That’s hilarious!
VINNIE: Also [giggles] the name Prexaspes sounds like a medication of some kind.
ACE: [laughs] “Ask your doctor if Prexaspes is right for you.”
PAUL [voiceover]: Shortly after, though, Cambyses would receive more news, some rather shocking news given the circumstances. In his absence, his throne had been taken… by SMERDIS?! Yep, by Smerdis.
ACE: [looks comically shocked] The dead Smerdis?!
BRUCE: Oh shit!
PAUL: So we know have this mysterious Smerdis. [takes out a figurine identical to the Smerdis figure, except it is labeled SMERDIS(?)]
ACE: So someone,, posing as Smerdis… See this is why people get verified on Twitter.
BRUCE: [laughs and nods] I mean, yeah, you’ve got a point. [to Paul] You should put a blue check mark over the real Smerdis.
PAUL: [grins and points his finger at the Smerdis figurine. A blue Twitter checkmark appears on the head as well as a text box that says VERIFIED]
GENE: Wait a minute, did he ever consider that the guy lied about what he did?
PAUL: No, he trusts that guy.
GENE: I just think it’s odd that he immediately thinks its an imposter, instead of thinking the guy was lying.
[screen cuts away to a title card:
CHAPTER II:
TO BE SMERDIS OR NOT TO BE SMERDIS
screen then cuts to animations as Paul narrates]
PAUL [voiceover]: Cambyses was, at first, greatly confuzzled by this recent development. Until someone reminded him of an important little detail, that made it clear to him that this must have been a power grab by an opportunistic usurper. I’m gonna leave that detail a mystery for now so that you continue to watch this video…
GENE: How does no one in the kingdom know this isn’t the real Smerdis?
BRUCE: It’s the beards, man. [Ace and Vinnie laugh]
GENE: Are you sure? I feel like…
BRUCE: Nah, man, everyone’s got a beard, ya can’t tell anyone apart.
ACE: “Alright, if you’re Smerdis, what did I give you for your birthday last year?” “An urn.” “Damn, it is Smerdis!”
To be continued in Part 2!

Marvel's Runaways- an example of a BAD idea
So imagine you wanted to a great comic book show. You buy a great cheap comic so you break the bank. But then you feel the pressure to have your loved characters appeal to a more modern audience. But there is a rift between the movie universe and the TV universe. So now you are left with a half baked story filled with holes and it is almost unrecognizable to the comics. Let us also not forget their horrible idea of re-writing the perspectives for the mass audiences. This is how you get the "cringy" monster that is the Hulu's adaptation of Runaways.
The first thing you must understand before tackling Runaways is that this Marvel property is heavily ingrained into the Marvel universe. In fact, one character from the comic book cast is the son of Ultron. Ultron, who MCU wrote off as someone short series of events.  Then that means that most of the events that occur in the comics become void. This leads to a rewriting of the events that occur in the TV show.
I broke the aspects of this ongoing show into three parts : Angst- the teen and the parent, stereotypes- I promise we're different,  dialogue- Who am I?
“I had choosen the path of the black sheep rather than that of the unicorns and puppies.”
― Magenta Periwinkle, Cutting Class
Angst- The teen and the parent
When you are first introduced to the nouveau-rich families of PRIDE  you see  parents with a wide range of jobs. This includes tech mongers, bio-chemists, and even spiritual leaders. By each family you see various color schemes graced across the screen. I assumed this TV show would be promising. Until you meet the children. I first became frustrated by the dynamics of the children. They're all stereotypes written out of a high school rom-com. At least for shows that Have stereotypes like  Daria you understand they're there to be unrealistic and mellow-dramatic. However this idea isn't valid for Runaways. The show is supposed to be relatable and fanciful at the same time. They're also not stereotypes in the graphic novel they're just themselves. This adds angst to the angst . Which this edgy behavior is supposed to replace the depth in their character. Take the biggest example of this: Nico. Her stereotype is that she's a goth so she's mean and does witchcraft and always cries about dead sister. Then in the later seasons she's hopelessly devoted to Karolina and this is supposed to add depth to her one dimensional personality. Her senitive love for Karolina is supposed to add depth- I just...No,no, no, UGH, Stop, please. I  can't with her. The big thing that makes her DEEP is that she's actually sensitive and gay. They use queer-bating to have her be more appealing. Then her stereotypical goth-ness solidifies the Goth norm-perception, it says,"Yes all goths are this way. They're all tortured and filled with teenage melodramatic behavior.".Her Wicca worship is another Goth stereotype. As a goth myself I do not condone the stereotypes that aren't accurate. I wish her character was more inspired like Abby from NCIS. The actor wantesd the  character to be more authentic and not just a stereotype like numerous other shows have.   Just no. Every time she slams her door a front of her mother's face or steals her mother's staff I'm just dumbfounded.
Karolina is the church girl stereotype. She waltzes across your screen in all white and reads Her bible-I-mean-her-religious-texts-that-don't-sound-like-Christianity-at-all. Then when she's tempted by the flesh of the witch! Oh no will they, Won't they? Spoiler alert: They will as we assumed with horrible LGBTQ+ characters as always. Her depth is her love for Nico. To the amount that her dreams while she's trapped in the first two episiodes of season three was her wedding with Nico. Granted it was goregous but her love is her character depth which is dissapointing since their relationship ends in season three.  They're both always moody and mad at each other but it's fine they love each other even though they only give each other a few pecks once in a while. Like don't make the mass audience mad cause we can't have too much gay! HAHA! For me it's less for the LGBTQ+ masses or to show representation it's written to sound and look pretty for the male gaze but hey!
That's just me spreading my SJW bias like Gert does 24/4! Like is there an off button. Introducing the liberal complete with crippling anxiety and even "NO! I can't love a Lacrosse Jock! I hate the Patriarchy!". While no one shows up for her rally or her bakes sales she crushes over Chase who is rude to her. My father being heavily left-leaning said "Gert needs to go. Like she doesn't stop talking and ruins the show!". Like when I told him I was watching the new season he frantically asked why and asked if I was okay.
I'm getting off track. Anyway, The point is the only ones that love their family to start is Molly, Gertrude and Chase. But don't worry the only one that still loves her parents after is Molly (in some twisted way I guess Karolina.....ehhh). After seeing their parents kill a kid and shove them into a magical space tube instead of calling the police or rationally acting. They gain this amazing attribute called teenage angst. Except for Molly cause she doesn't get it. Granted the first season isn't that bad but the show only gets worse the farther you go into it. I especially have been carrying a special amount of disdain for season two. But I think that maybe the new season has promise since the teenage angst doesn't smell as bad so far but I'll give you guys an update on Tumblr. What was I saying ...So if you don't understand what I mean by the heavy angst take a new scene from season three when Dale (her dad) Has Gert hostage in their cottage. She goes on numerous rants on How much she hates him when like a year ago she was being somewhat rational by trying to think before she shouts and finger wag at her parents but now-speak your mind child! I find the teen vs. parent atmosphere.
However  This idea of teenage angst isn't unrealistic. But how general it is over every character is what makes the angst unrealistic. The original hesitation of Gert makes it feel more natural. Karolina's almost disregard to what they saw originally felt more real. The small responses from characters separates their personalities and makes season one much more entertaining.
Stereotypes- I promise we're different
Now that you understand the edgy personality of the show as a whole let's move on to the content. You're introduced to a runaway teenager named Destiny she's mugged but "rescued" by the Church of Gibborim. Little do we realize these muggers were trying to save her. Six months later we're introduced to Alex Wilder, a stereotypical nerd, who loves coding. Nico Minoru the person Alex has a crush; her  sister died who was Alex's best friend, so now Nico's a goth. Okay, that's a lot. You then meet Gert, Chase and, Molly. Molly is younger then everyone else so she is disregarded when she tells everyone to become friends. Chase is a lacrosse jock but he's different cause he's smart I guess. Chase loves his family but his dad is emotionally abusive to him and his mom. It gives Chase a leader mentality and he tends to think he knows the right answer.
Gert is a social justice warrior who tries to make her school a better place. But she's different cause she has anxiety. Tell me if my point isn't getting across, tell me. This show's "thing" is that everyone's a stereotypes but, they're different, I guess;Which would usually be fine if it wasn't apart of such a big intellectual property: Marvel. Granted when it comes to movies and TV I never said Marvel story-lines were ever complex but the shows always Go outside the prior assumptions, it's not all stereotypes.
Take for instance, Agents of Shield.  Take Coulson who literally was resurrected fro the dead. He is hard and stern like he was depicted in the movies but we learn about his strife and how he worked alongside Nick to build S.H.I.E.L.D. to what it is. He has control issues so he has to adopt the mindset that Nick has. It's new and interesting to the MCU audience. Melinda May, is an Ace pilot and personally my favorite simply due to her character writing. Her divide between her reputation versus who she is. She's known as " The Calvary" after all. She has trauma from a mission that killed a civilian which leaves her emotionally scared. This isn't a new concept but seeing her grow and becoming better emotionally gives the audience connections to the characters.
Every character is written with steady care and good character writing. We feel sad When Coulson dies yet again. We feel the inner turmoil Skye and May feel. The connection isn't there in these hollow stereotypes. The connection to the audience in Runaways is what's making the show stale. The TV show characters are pale imitations of the comic book characters. It's hurts the show in the long run.
dialogue-Who am I?
The most important thing that makes this show salvageable is the dialogue. No, I don't only mean the words coming out their mouths but the story-line that's surprisingly controlled by the parents. The superficial cold teenagers that only show disdain towards their parents and easily toppled by their Parents beckoning and call. For instance in season 2, Chase betrays his whole team to have his family back after his dad dies. He thinks they'll lose so quickly when  he's left alone with them. You see their guard come down so quickly around their providers. Yet they can never forgive them. This is obvious in Alex's case. His hatred towards his parents lead him to the arms of his father's enemy become's angry when his mother retaliates and kills Darius, but is vexed when his father is calling him. Responds just by his mother threatens him from jail in season three. Why does Nico stop to talk to her Dad in season three, episode "Lord of Lies". I'm going  to keep watching just because of the dynamic of the kids and parents. Especially as the parents are inhabited by parasitic aliens it's changes this complex dynamic yet again. Along with Nico's inner turmoil involving her magic and the forces that are utilized with her staff headlines the dialogue and plot I love so much. I will continue to watch as this tale unfolds.
Conclusion: This show is complex recycling heap. I find it hard to watch and a grotesque figure I can't move away from. I find it a good surface level adaptation. I find it messy but it's not entirely predictable! I appreciate how invested the actors are in their characters! I hope to continue watching the show to see how  the plot moves.

Interview with William C. Morris Award finalist Adib Khorram: the Bitmoji edition.
It’s that time of year again! I love my William C. Morris Award family, and I’m so overjoyed to welcome finalist Adib Khorram into the fold. I am head over heels for Adib’s debut, DARIUS THE GREAT IS NOT OKAY. It’s about the most endearing tea-drinking, soccer-playing, half-white, half-Persian, fictional nerd you’ve ever met. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s one of my favorite books of all time - and outlets like TIME, Buzzfeed, Kirkus, Publisher’s Weekly, Entertainment Weekly, Cosmopolitan, the New York Times (and more) totally agree with me.
Tumblr media
But the number one DARIUS fan? My Bitmoji. She’s actually kind of embarrassing about it. When I told her she’d be interviewing Adib’s bitmoji, she screamed. It was loud. I tried to talk her out of wearing her Adib fandom t-shirt to the interview, but.
Tumblr media
Yeah.
So without further ado, let’s turn it over to the bitmojis!
Beckmoji: Huge congrats on being a finalist for the Morris Award! I’m ridiculously happy for you, and I can’t emphasize enough how well-deserved this is. Can you tell me about the moment you found out you were a finalist?
Adibmoji: I was actually doing the dishes when I got the phone call. I could tell it was [editor] Dana from my watch, so I dried off my hands and answered. And I’m kind of embarrassed to admit it but I kept washing dishes as we talked because I’m one of those people that doesn’t like to leave the dishes half-done; plus I had a school visit that afternoon so I wanted to finish them before I left. But we had a great chat and screamed together and it was awesome and wonderful and totally surprising.
Tumblr media
Beckmoji: Darius has touched so many people’s hearts – I legit get DMs from people gushing about it, just because they know I’m a fan. I imagine it’s been the kind of year that can only truly be described in gifs. If you had to pick three that best capture your debut experience, what would they be?
Tumblr media
Adibmoji: Debut year has been a whirlwind and amazing and I’ve been incredibly humbled by the response to Darius.
Tumblr media
Adibmoji: Honestly a lot of the time it’s felt kind of surreal.
Tumblr media
Adibmoji: But also it’s been an incredible amount of fun. I could not have predicted or asked for a better debut experience.
Tumblr media
Beckmoji: Darius’s experience with depression hit so close to home for me, and I know I speak for many readers when I say that. What advice would you give to readers, especially teens like Darius, who may be living with depression?
Adibmoji: I always feel like advice is great when it works and terrible when it doesn’t. So instead I’d rather let readers know that even though it feels like depression can be this big, life-defining thing, it’s not. Depression is just one small part of their life, and not even the most interesting part.
Tumblr media
Beckmoji: Darius’s friendship with Sohrab cuts so deep – their love for each other is palpable, and the rough moments between them are painfully real. I loved the exploration of all the ruptures and repairs that come with true friendship. What were your favorite moments to write about that friendship? What moments challenged you the most?
Adibmoji: I loved whenever I got the two of them on that rooftop and it felt like they were in their own little world. Those scenes were incredibly fulfilling to write. Probably the most challenging moment was the fight they have toward the end. I’ve never been great at writing fights, because I like it best when all my characters get along. So I had to dig really deep.
I feel like it’s human nature to lash out at the people we love most because we know (or at least hope) that they’re going to forgive us, and that’s what I was trying to get across. I hope I succeeded.
Tumblr media
Beckmoji: I loved seeing Iran through the eyes of a biracial American kid with Persian/white roots. Were there any particular details that felt particularly important to include, either about Iran or about Darius's experience of being Persian?
Adibmoji: I really wanted to show that life is just life in Iran. So often other cultures get exoticized in media, and I wanted to push back against that. And, rather selfishly, I wanted to show Yazd, which is my dad’s hometown.
Tumblr media
Beckmoji: I am a notorious exaggerator about crying during books - I actually rarely do – but I legit sobbed my eyes out near the end of Darius (it was during a conversation with his dad). Were there any parts of the book that made you emotional as you wrote them?
Adibmoji: The main ones were the scene where Darius says goodbye to his grandparents at the end, and the one with Darius and his dad on the rooftop. I came to the sobering realization during the writing process that I was closer in age to Darius’s parents than I was to Darius, and that really informed a lot of the scenes with his parents in general: I was thinking about what they were feeling, and what Darius was feeling, and what Darius thought they were feeling.
I once read that one of the characteristics of the teenage psyche is a tendency to react to the perceived motivations of the behavior, rather than the behavior itself, and that really stuck with me and informed Darius’s relationship with his dad.
Tumblr media
Beckmoji: Are there any books that you would recommend for fans of Darius?
Adibmoji: The entire Simon-verse for starters! For readers seeking more Iranian-American stories, Arvin Ahmadi’s DOWN AND ACROSS, Abdi Nazemian’s THE AUTHENTICS, and literally anything by Sara Farizan (her latest is the stellar HERE TO STAY). Julian Winters’ RUNNING WITH LIONS for readers wanting a story about sports and inclusion and friends and love. For readers like Darius who love sci-fi and fantasy, Natalie C. Parker’s SEAFIRE, L. L. McKinney’s A BLADE SO BLACK, and Alex London’s BLACK WINGS BEATING. For cinnamon rolls dealing with family issues, it’s hard to beat Jandy Nelson’s I’LL GIVE YOU THE SUN or Benjamin Aliré Saenz’s ARISTOTLE & DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE. And for all the nerds out there, keep your eyes peeled for Lana Wood Johnson’s 2019 debut, TECHNICALLY, YOU STARTED IT, a mistaken-identity romcom starring a pair of nerds who slowly fall in love over text messages.
And, because I can’t go five minutes without mentioning it, I am absolutely obsessed with Martha Wells’s THE MURDERBOT DIARIES, a series of adult sci-fi novellas that I’ve recommended to everyone in my life. They’re about a misanthropic cyborg who would rather watch soap operas but keeps getting forced into being a hero.
Tumblr media
Beckmoji: What are three of your favorite moments from your whirlwind debut year?
Adibmoji: I’m kind of a weirdo and I love conventions, so going to BEA and being surrounded by ALL THE BOOKS was a real highlight. I also got to meet my agent and editor in real life for the first time; and you and I got to say hi again before we both got pulled in different directions; and I got to see New York City for the first time, which filled my theater-kid heart so full.
One time when we were in Austin for Texas Teen Book Festival, Heidi Heilig (author of FOR A MUSE OF FIRE, THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE, and THE SHIP BEYOND TIME, and an all-around amazing human being) led a group of us to the bat bridge to try and see the bats. But apparently we were too late in the season so we didn’t get to see the bat swarm. But we had a great adventure nonetheless.
After ALA, I had a late flight out, and Natalie C. Parker’s flight out got cancelled, so we ended up at the hotel bar after ALA, just talking about writing and family and our love of Star Trek.
One of the most amazing things about this whole journey has been all the friends I’ve made, especially with authors I admire. It’s kind of weird to go from being a fan to being a colleague, but it’s wonderful, too.
Tumblr media
Beckmoji: And finally, please summarize Darius using only emojis.
Adibmoji:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In conclusion: should you buy this beautiful book and read it while drinking tea? Answer:
Tumblr media
Huge thanks to Adib AND Adibmoji for giving such beautiful answers to these (fangirl ravings disguised as) questions.

Did I Do That?
One thing I can admit is that I am a sucker for a sitcom with a well rounded family and some sort of quirky neighbor. If you're on the same train then you already know what show I had the pleasure of watching: Family Matters.
Family Matters premiered on September 22 1989, on ABC with the show later moving to CBS. The show starred Reginald VelJohnson as Carl Winslow, Jo Marie Paton as Harriette Winslow, Kellie Shanygne Williams as Laura Winslow, Darius McCrary as Eddie Winslow, Rosetta LeNoire as Estelle Winslow, Telma Hopkins as Rachel Crawford, Jamiee Foxworth as Judy Winslow, and Joseph and Julis Wright as Ritchie Crawford. At the beginning of the show Jaleel White was definitely capturing our funny bones as Steve Urkel but it was not until the second season he became a regular cast member. The viewers reactions to his antics and tenderness were enough to secure him a regular spot.
Tumblr media
The show ran for 9 seasons which is an incredible run for a black sitcom. The last episode aired July 17, 1998. Family Matters is available for purchase on Amazon and also available to stream on Hulu.
I was a little hesitant to watch this show because I remember watching the reruns of this as a kid and only remember a few episodes being funny. OH DAMN WAS I WRONG! Family Matters is hilarious! The characters are quick and funny all in their own way. The show also really played with the element of physical and environmental comedy. Whether it was Steve transforming into Stephon or the The Winslow Family reacting to one of Steve’s newest machines the characters really played with what was going on around them.
Tumblr media
Let’s start with the basics of the show; Family Matters centers around  The Winslow Family living in Chicago. The family deals with their everyday lives and with the daily and unnecessary occurrences of their neighbor Steve Urkel. One reason I was excited to watch this show is because it takes place in my hometown of Chicago. It was so interesting hearing them use actual Chicago streets, neighborhoods, and schools. It made me feel like I was really IN the story.
One aspect of the show that I have to discuss is Carl Winslow’s job as an officer. We ALL know the traumatic history black people have in regards to the police. Things have gotten alarmingly worse and it has gotten to the point where there truly is no resolution for all the wrongs the police have done to black and brown communities. Despite all of this we also know there are people of color who are on the force. Carl Winslow was an officer of the Chicago Police Department and from what I gather it definitely feels as though this was done intentionally. This show premiered in the late 80′s and early 90′s which was a time where racial tension between black/brown communities and the police were really starting to reveal themselves. As a Chicago native I know that the 90′s was definitely when more gangs were making themselves known in the communities making police become more aggressive than they already were. During this time a figure like Carl, I feel, was a tactic to make black men who watch the show and don’t view police in a positive manner to empathize with the police by seeing someone who looks like them in the uniform. Remember this is just my theory but it does not seem too far fetched. Even though I am not  the biggest fan of Car’s occupation I appreciated how his difficulties being on the force in relation to him being a black man was displayed. There was an episode where Carl had to check one of his colleagues because he harassed his son Eddie for no reason other than the color of his skin. I appreciated the honesty toward that difficult part of his career.
Tumblr media
During my rewatch something else that was great to watch was the show’s use of special effects. Growing up I watched many sitcoms but nothing could ever compare to the time and effort that I know were put into the special effects on the show. As Steve became more present his experiments always lead to explosions and/or some substance being shot across the room. I noticed that became an opener for some of the episodes in the later seasons and guess what...I loved every minute of it! The special effects mixed with other stunts in the show was the cherry on top of this comedic sundae. I hope the cast had insurance during the time cause certain things looked a little too daredevil-ish for me. One of my favorite moment is during the episode “High Anxiety” in season 4 when Waldo, Steve, and Eddie were trapped on a fire escape and were trying to get back inside the building. It was almost as if watching something similar to the Universal Soul circus. While the fire escape turned the actors tumbled and flipped right on top of it. I am still till this day wondering if they used stunt doubles.
Another great part of this family sitcom are the characters themselves. I can truly say that after watching this series I enjoyed mostly everyone’s performance(minus Eddie but we’ll get to that) and watching them display the growth of these characters. One character who I deem to be one of the most underrated 90′s girls is Laura Winslow. I am sure those who listen to music have heard rappers refer to their dream girls and used sitcoms references. I have heard people wanting a Whitley Gilbert, Hilary Banks, Denise Huxtable, etc(and clearly we see what’s wrong with this pattern) but never a Laura Winslow which is amazing to me because she was such bold and charismatic character. One of my favorite episodes to see her in is “Fight The Good Fight” in season 2 where she fought to have a black history course taught in school. I know we loved Moesha but Laura paved the way. Did she make mistakes like every teenage girl yes but she knew exactly where she wanted to go and how to get there which makes Laura the blueprint!
Tumblr media
I could not leave this post without writing just a tad about Jaleel White. I was looking forward to watching this show because I wanted to see if Steve is actually funny or was it just the expected goofiness that people knew they would get a chuckle out of. I am here to tell you that Steve Urkel is indeed HILARIOUS and that is done because of the brilliance that is Jaleel White. Jaleel was ACTING! Steve was no doubt a comedic character but there were moment in the show where his let his guard down(especially with Laura) and we saw some of the most tender and sincere moments that I have ever seen on a sitcom. The comedic moments were out of this world paired with Jaleel’s vocal and physical talents when it comes to creating Steve. The transformation moment when he turns into Stephon is almost mesmerizing to me. The way he deliberately would time it, deliver lines throughout the process, and even the sound effects he’s making. I know it sounds a little goofy but, this an actor who you can tell does not ming playing on a set. Jaleel now does work more in the children’s entertainment world which is a great thing. I am all for a children programming including images and voices(I know he’s done some voice over work) that include black people but I would love to see him cross over onto something very dark comedy-ish. American Horror Story?
Tumblr media
The cast overall is superb and went very well together and had many characters that are enjoyable on screen, like Ms. Estelle(played by Rosetta LeNoire). I always and I mean ALWAYS love a strong matriarchal figure who emphasizes in a very loving but direct way that: I AM GROWN. Estelle spoke her mind but was always there to bring her family together. It is probably the southern in me but it just hits every time.
NOW! As I stated in my opening post not only will I be going over the good but it just wouldn’t be right to acknowledge the bad in some of these shows, or the thing that were less favorable.
Something I noted it what’s similar to what happened with “JJ” from Good Times. Steve was always his brilliant self but there were times where the antics may have been just a filler instead using the comedic moment to fuel the story. It was not to the extreme of how the character of J.J was in a sense “dumbed down” but there were moments I felt okay that little goofy thing didn't necessarily need to happen but it’s fine.
Someone that bugged me throughout this entire series is Eddie Winslow. I mean..he literally only thinks with one head and it gets very irritating after a while. I get it we were all there once teenagers but damn! THINK! I have a complex with straight men who think and act “traditionally” so fair warning that characters like Eddie Winslow in other shows will get the same treatment. Not to mention I am just not convinced with any of Darius McCrary’s performances. Even when he is a special guest star or the lead actor he just always has been a miss for me. Everyone on the cast held their own but I’ve always felt like he was the weakest link.
Overall Family Matters was an amazing display of quality Black television if you ask me. Great comedic scenes/elements, very heartfelt moments, and aired episodes that talked about some important issues such as bullying, gang violence, and even body image. The show gave us great characters; Steve Urkel will ALWAYS be a pop culture icon. I urge you to watch Family Matters again and enjoy everything this quirky and compassionate sitcom has to offer.

Yes, It’s Basically Persona But With The Golden Girls (I think)
With Persona 5 finally here, it’s perhaps worth also knowing about The Golden Girls Take Manhattan DX, which is yet another early contender for Attract Mode’s 2017 Game Of The Year.
Yup, 摩尼遊戯TOKOYO, the previously mentioned GOTY candidate (which recently started making the rounds, thanks to obscurevideogames) has competition! Though it remains to be seen if The Golden Girls Take Manhattan DX, which is the handiwork of grawly, will be finished later this year. Here’s another taste…
youtube
Though I’d also love to see his take on Puyo Puyo but with The Golden Girls and Rosanne (outside of a Little Caesars)…
Tumblr media
So what else has been going on? Well, by far the most exciting bits of intel over the past few is The Flying Luna Clipper related! First there’s this awesome write-up, courtesy of Victor Navarro Remesal. Which Victor shared among his various circles, and the following was revealed to him: images from a calendar circa 2004, the same year that the supposed sequel was produced!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
… Basically The Flying Luna Clipper 2 might actually exist! One that features the snow man with sashimi on his head and the Flying Luna Clipper surfing while playing the guitar.
In other news, April 1st has come and gone, perhaps the most annoying time of the year. Though there was at least one April Fools gag I genuinely dug, because I knew right off the back that it was a joke. Which was Takeshi’s Challenge VR, with the best part being the comparison images, between the Famicom original and the remake. Which mendelpalace was kind enough to compile already…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there’s Crazy Galaxy, which is the worst kind of April Fools gag, cuz I wished it was real. japanesenintendo has all the details, though if you’re like me, it’ll piss you off if you too have long wanted to see a spin off title starring Ashley from WarioWare...
Tumblr media
And here we have something that I thought was an April 1 joke at first, but turns out, it’s not! That being this special, commemorative PaRappa menu that I first spotted over at miki800. Though I’ll never get a chance to actually eat a PJ Berri donut, so I’m still bummed out…
Tumblr media
JC’s the one from I discovered that there’s a new Mega Drive/Genesis game coming out later this year. Not that anyone needs a reminder, but once again, we’re talking about the year 2017…
youtube
Oliver recently highlighted a discovery over at his end, one that he made sure to know that I was aware of, given my interest in the VHS format; it’s a surprisingly literal translation of the events detailed in Super Mario World, but reconfigured for an interactive VHS tape that it “controlled” via a fake telephone for little kids…
youtube
Oliver also passed along word, via Twitter, that we finally have the behind the scenes look at Dong Dong Never Die that all of us (okay, maybe just me and like four other people) have been patiently waiting for…
Tumblr media
Back to obscurevideogames real quick, as well Takeshi’s Challenge; some snazzy looking ads from back in the day, which I’m going to just look at instead of watching Hollywood’s take on Ghost In The Shell (I may also re-watch my fave Beat Takashi flick, Sonatine, and the best anime to live action adaptation ever, Speed Racer)…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of movies, my soul brother when it comes B movies, Matt Rzepecky, recently turned me onto the Walk of Life Project, which states that Walk of Life by Dire Straights is the perfect song to end any movie. Including WarGames…
youtube
And back to the subject of old video game print ads; which do you prefer, this one featuring the backside of a person, for Real Sound….
Tumblr media
