Don’t know if someone already asked that question so here it goes: what’s your opinion on Ned Stark? I think the fandom is too harsh on him
He's fine. I like him as the character who starts off and sets up the story for our actual protagonists. I like that he's flawed and has his own kind of morality and ideas of right and wrong, as fitting the fictional fantasy world he lives in.
I do think the fandom is too harsh in the sense of how he's reduced to this honorable fool. This interpretation of him (wrong, IMO) is so popular in fandom that it made it's way to the garbage show through D&D/Bryan Cogman adapting popular tumblr metas rather than actually reading the books and translating that to the screen. They wrote actual dialogue for Sansa 'Smart' where she warns Jon to not be stupid like Ned and Robb!!
This is one of the many reasons for why the show and the books are so canonically different. Benioff and Weiss think the likes of Littlefinger should rule the world and hence why they wrote dialogue for Littlefinger 2.0 aka Sansa stark where she disparages Ned Stark as stupid. In the books on the other hand, Ned inspires loyalty and brotherhood, with his bannerman rising up for Arya and Rickon Stark, while all the Lannisters can inspire is fear and hatred.
As GRRM himself explains:
It’s not enough to be a good man to be an effective ruler. It’s complicated and it’s hard and I wanted to show that with repeated examples in my books with my kings and hand of the kings - the prime minister if you would - trying to rule. And whether it be Ned Stark or Tyrion Lannister or Tywin Lannister or Daenerys Targaryen or Cersei Lannister trying to deal with the real challenges that affect anyone trying to rule the 7K or even a city like Meereen and it’s hard. You know, we can all read the books or read history and say oh, so and so was stupid and made a lot of mistakes and look at all these stupid mistakes they make. But these kind of mistakes are always much more apparent in hind sight than when you are actually faced with the decision about, oh my God, what would I do in this situation. How do I resolve this thing? Do I do the moral thing? But what about the political consequences of the moral thing? Do I do the pragmatic, cynical thing and kind of screw the people who are screwed by it? I mean, it is HARD. And I want to get to all of that - GRRM
Ned had very few allies and people he could trust in KL. It was a viper's nest and as I mentioned in one of my earlier posts Jon Arryn leaves behind an absolute mess with the likes of the Lannisters, Littlefinger and Slynt holding too much power. There was not much maneuvering that Ned could do in the situation he found himself.
I like that he is flawed with his blindspots for Robert Baratheon that clashes with his morality. I like that children are his weakness - that he was ready to resign when Robert wanted to send assassins to murder Dany, that he tried to save Jaime's children while Jaime tried to kill his.
All in all, I think it's harder to be a 'good' man in Westeros than it is to be a bad one. I have read opinions on how the likes of Ned and Jon are boring because they are 'good' while everyone loves the hot bad boys like Jaime Lannister because he's just so 'complex'. I couldn't disagree more. Jaime attempts to murder the likes of Bran and Arya for Cersei and it's a simple enough decision for the likes of him in a Westeros that lets him get away doing this with no consequences. Ned Stark warns Cersei because he does not want to see her children suffer the same fate as Elia's children - and dooms his family and house.
When Westeros exemplifies the idea of 'No good deed goes unpunished', it's harder to do the morally right thing and I am doubly appreciative of characters who still do it. Daenerys trying to help the oppressed of Meereen simply because it's the right thing to do, Arya helping the prisoners in the cage or Weasel or sticking up for Mycah, Jon fighting against the centuries of hatred and xenophobia at the wall in his reform of the Wall.
So yeah, I like Ned Stark. He's an interesting, complex character and I can't wait to know more about him with Howland Reed's revelations of Robert's Rebellion and the Tower of Joy and what actually happened and how Jon Snow deals with the truth and reexamines his relationship with his 'father' and Arya holding on so strongly to her father's ideals, leadership and this image she has of him and how she is going to use his words, adapt and change that to lead the North.

Alicent would have been worshipped and treated SOOOO much better by Corlys and Rhaenys than she ever was by Viserys in canon, tbh like this is one of the healthier couples in the time period, Corlys is the sexy lord mariner and Rhaenys is a feral woman who was raised to be a queen, a child of both Targaryen and Baratheon blood. You know they'd treat Ali right 🥵🥵. Can you imagine Alicent getting better around dragons with proper care and teaching, her slowly being introduced to Meleys after the wedding and letting go of some fear of them. OH MY GOD, but imagine the dance still happening even tho Alicent is with Corlys and Rhaenys, and her 4 kids are his. Imagine Viserys took another wife anyway, and his kids by his second wife take the throne when he dies, what if they kept Rhaenys and Alicent prisoner in kl, like in the show, but in a worse way like the usurper wants Rhaenys and Meleys on his side and he wants to take Alicent as his own wife or something. Only this time, when he's trying to force the marriage at his coronation, Rhaenys and Meleys burst through the floor, and Alicent gets on the dragon with her and they escape together to tell Rhaenyra what happened. When Corlys finds out what the brat tried to do to his wives, he's FREAKING LIVID.
ALL OF THIS!!
They would treat her so well and she would blossom between them. Becoming stronger and being a better mother to her children away from Otto's poison.

(a little excerpt from something I wrote for that knight/prince au) ...lance glares at him and draws this invisible border in the grass with his finger, forbidding Keith to cross it. “leave me alone.” “your highness-” “tell my mother” he cuts him off, kicking off his boots and throwing his coat “that i don’t a guard-- a baby-sitter!” the water’s cold when he enters, causing goosebumps to erupt violently all over his body. lance gasps at the unwanted temperature but stubbornly sinks into it. he’s already forbid Keith from setting foot in his wing of the castle, and expressed this decision to his mother (a painstakingly process). she assigned some guards outside his door instead, but he knows she hasn’t let it go. she demands an explanation that he won’t give. he knows his mother is reason Keith’s still around, even from an afar distance. lance feels the heat of his gaze even when he can’t see him there. shoulders now submerged, he turns back to the knight and to the incredulous expression he wears, and tries not to shiver as he speaks “well? why are you still here?” the knight says nothing but sighs, heavily. lance senses the annoyance coming from those thick, scrunched up brows. he hears an audible click and suddenly the plate of armor is hitting the ground. the prince snaps his head up as the knight throws his belt, sword and all, and comes stomping into the water, it practically parting at the stride of his entrance. lance reacts a moment too late, turning to paddle away before a hand clasps his wrist and he’s pressed against a hard chest. “you--” lance, stunned, takes in a shuddering, deep breath “you--you! you dare grab me--” “only you!” the man cuts him off, strength easily overpowering lance’s feeble attempts to rip himself free. “what do you mean? me?!” lance damn nearly shouts, frustrated and flustered. he’s tried everything in his power to put distance between them and Keith just keeps pushing his way in, making his efforts all for naught. he may not be the heir to the crown but he’s still a prince, son of the queen. what would people say if they saw them? they already hushed their little words when lance started having feelings. [was he really that obvious?] ‘the prince in love with a lowborn knight? how absurd’ lance couldn’t bear to put Keith in that kind of spotlight, he couldn't stand the thought of hurting him. “I may take orders from the queen, her majesty, but I devoted myself to you.” lance swallows but holds his ground “I released you from your duty, I have no need for you” the words sting coming out of his own mouth. lance tries not to tremble as a breeze brushes through them, trying to sink lower in the still waters. Keith is warm. the grip on his wrists tighten. the knight’s expression softens, losing some of its callous edges “then you’re gonna have to kill me.” 🍓
oh my god this is wonderful. the fierce protection they feel for one another will undo me so completely 😭 keith’s stubborn loyalty 😭😭 and i have so many feelings for a lance who says awful things he doesnt mean cuz its so angsty 😭😭😭 thank u so much for sharing this with me i love ur kl as always!!!!!

I agree with prev anon- i think the idea of helaemond in any concept (even a very courtly love situation) would feed into his relationship with Alys! Like, we know that’s happening no matter what, the show isn’t going to cut that. But we still have significant events before Aemond even sets foot in Harrenhal, and like you said, giving him this previous relationship where he struggles to remain “dutiful” to family vs his own wants…. it can connect directly to him ultimately choosing himself and his ambitions over returning to KL for Alicent. There would also be no crossover at any point, obviously when Aemond is with Alys, Helaena very much has her own problems going on 😔 the fighting is so silly
ALSO..... hear me out.... gods willing.... the writers could actually make his riverlands plot make sense in a way that doesn't compromise on his IQ or his responsibilities to the realm/his family (latter part of this thread)
you can have things with alys escalate, sure, have them fall in love or whatever flavour of obsession you care for, but, ultimately, hunting down daemon and cutting off the starks and the arryns from reaching KL via vhagarflame isn't that bad of a plan. we're always criticising dany and jace when it comes to their wanting to storm KL by dragon and take it by burning everyone, so maybe we shouldn't be so quick to press on aemond to take back the city by brute force. perhaps a siege might have been more appropriate in this situation and for that daeron, tessarion and the hightower army would have been better-suited to the task (had they ever managed to reach KL in the first place)
not that whatever aemond is doing in the riverlands is keeping with established rules of engagement and proportionality, but it did bear mentioning 😅
he knows he is in danger of fucking up the baratheon alliance if they get wind of alys, so he zealously concentrates his efforts into finding and eliminating daemon asap as that is the one thing that would strike at the core of the blacks militarily and weaken them. handling rhaenyra afterwards would become much less daunting
there really is no need to turn his relationship with alys into "oh he hates his family now, he's only out for himself". he can get carried away, realise he fucked up and try to compensate and fix the situation by neutralising team black's main military commander and the last other combat dragon.
this abandoning-the-greens never really sat well with me as an explanation, because, even if, say, aemond is just out for himself, the greens need to defeat the blacks if he wants to live. if the greens lose, he's toast. no more princely privileges for him, at best he's a fugitive. aemond, the one who covets power and recognition and has a praise kink? on the run like a common criminal? defeating rhaenyra really is a shared military and political goal for all greens, there would be no pardons for aemond at the end of this war, so him just sitting on his arse fucking alys is really absurd.

Oh god I have to start posting here again.
Hi, I’m Autumn. If you’re new here, I assume you like Klance. I’m a fic writer and have been writing for KL since I was introduced to them in 2019. I previously wrote with a coauthor named SailUncharted and when they moved fandoms, I started coauthoring with InfiniteSongbird (aka Dani). For the most part, I always drive Keith in the fics while my coauthor drives Lance. Dani and I pretty much exclusively write trans Keith. Why? Cuz I’m transEnby and I like projecting.
My most well-known fics are Lemon Boys (which I promise will be finished. It’s just complicated rn) and the DragonKeith/MageLance AU Star Cursed. Right now, Dani and I are writing a time travel/historical AU called One if By Land, featuring trans!enby Keith navigating 1770s Boston while trying not to fall in love with aristocrat Lance. Everything posts on ao3, so give it some love.

the immediate implications would be that the ritual in ptt is actually OH transforming into the black hole and starting anew. this would also mean KL isn't so much a time traveler with powers to rewind/scrub time but rather someone who can withstand going through a black hole and retain information. there is wiggle room here considering the lipsoul/tenet theory but i think this is a compelling reasoning as to why OH has to fulfill the role of fenrir/the destroyer and how the loop works 2/5
but im a big believer in OH being an allegory for girlhood and monstrosity and i think the most compelling thing about her is her duty towards eden, her yearning for love in the girls, and how her grief and wrath is fueled by both of these. so im wondering, to reconcile this concept and angels' lack of will, if she became a fallen angel BECAUSE of that inner conflict? an angel straying from axiom. but in feeling that reluctance and seeking that love she loses favor with eden and is alone 3/5
and so maybe in that loneliness she STILL goes through with that destruction, limping along her former axiom in a bid to regain angelhood. whether she rejects HJ's attempts at friendship or realizes divine love has been in front of her the whole time depends on the loop. BUT in the axiom post the divine urge to create is described as "the void". and that's EXACTLY what HJ and OH are. OH isn't wrath or cleansing fire. OH is the force that lets HJ delight in the act of creation over and over 4/5
OH is HJ's subconscious self-love. egoist goes both ways. HJ allows herself the indulgence of creation and OH understands that her destined path of destruction IS love. she wasn't denied god's love or running away from it she IS the love. anyway i think the final loop will entail HJ and OH renouncing god/angel-hood and having one final perfect iteration as humans with ot12. it all comes down to love! 5/5 hope you find this compelling, would love to hear your thoughts bc i feel like i've been going insane -🐯
I have terrible news. I never got your first ask. So I feel like this is kinda more disjointed than it woulda been.
The werewolf as allegory for female puberty is a good theme, and good commentary on how society views it, dealt with iconically in Ginger Snaps which I assume probably had some influence at least in a very small capacity, knowing the director's interest in teen flicks. Lip's affiliation with casettes, which are powered by magnets, came to mind when you mentioned 'scrubbing' time, but I don't think 'withstanding' a black hole and Lip's time powers (IMO she can't time travel conventionally, she exploits her superspeed to circumnavigate(?) the flow of time). I personally don't really like yyxy girls/Olivia as angels but I see what you mean. I do like the good end/bad end ideas for the timelines though. (Also this OH/HJ thing links with my homestuck view of Olivia being Lord/epitome of active vs Heeijn being Muse/epitome of passive teehee) Though that last part, I kinda prefer interpreting Egoist as accusing Yves of being the Egoist in question as opposed to Olivia identifying as one, despite the self-love theme... but I do think the notions of divine love and yin/yang is present in the work throughout, in OH/HJ's dynamic as well as 2jin and hyewon and really all over. But ya it really does all come down to love ^__^

end note: 2023
i'm like 21 days late for this closure for 2023. but its taking me awhile to accept 2023 as a whole.
on the bright side, i've managed to settle myself fully and be contented with the life path i've chose towards the end of 2023 and i'm glad i still have the same people i trust and love since the start of 2023. to me, that is the most rewarding part.
somewhere in the almost middle of 2023, i went through a break up with someone whom i saw a future with. but little did i know that that person would go. leaving me in a spiral for three months. though, i did managed to move on during those 3 months while making the wrong choices too. its a habit for me to stay after breaking up as i did foresee a future with him and i thought there was hope. until that one day i drew such a hatred and my body rejected him - which was its way to tell me that its time for me to leave. took awhile for my mind be okay with that. to whoever you are, i hope you're happier without me and i'm sure you can be. i hope you and your family are healthy. i do miss your mother at times and yes, i'll fulfill the promise i've made with her when the time comes. this relationship that was built is still the most bitter to me. anyways, stream typa girl by blackpink.
work wise, i've managed to learn to love my work again with my new role. my team is so lovely even though i'm the only sgrean and the rest are in kl. but the dynamic the 4 of us have is just impeccable. though, i still do have the intention on leaving the company even when i love my team and my job. the company, she ain't it. too many unpredictable changes and sometimes too forceful for results.
family wise, i lost two of my elders on my maternal side in july and in october. i miss them dearly especially my grandfather, whom has protected me and shower me countless loves. hope he's happy up there. his passing was definitely one of my biggest points in 2023. i never thought i would lose him but god loves him more than anyone will ever. everytime i speak about him, i get choked out because there was a period whereby i had to be strong and i didn't process it yet, truly indenial of it. oh on the bright side, my dearest uncle is back. the only sad part about him being back is i am not sure if he knows my grandfather has passed on or not. but i am proud that he is back to civilization now.
friendship wise, i am glad that i managed to hang out with my friends lots in 2023, especially towards the end when i've managed to find balance and be happy again. yes, when i'm upset, i tend to disappear as i don't want anyone to worry about me nor see me in the state of agony. thankful to my two brothers who always entertain my cravings of acai and much impromptu meets by randomly going to changi airport or even vivo for no apparent reasons. thankful to vg always and forever for being my girls till today and being there for me when things get super hard. so blessed to have witness one of the heartfelt weddings ever - i couldn't control my tears, she has certainly went through alot and i am so happy that she's happy and love the life she is in right now.
you thought i was done? nah. guess what? i am blessed to have met someone yet again. when i say again, yes, he was my 2020 valentines date and my only ns girlfriend era i had. we met again in 2023 and we clicked really well. he did something unexpected as others would ask the person they like to be their girlfriend but no. he took out the 'do you want get a bto with me?'. surprise! yeah, we're on that now. wish us luck! still learning about one another because its been 3 years since we last met but boy, i am happy. he treats me kindly and even holds me softly. he reminds me of my 21 self who was still in school - just freedom with a little sprinkle of school stress. so blessed to be working at serangoon so i’m lowkey near him and sometimes i get free rides home hehe. thank you to my man for entertaining my jb staycays. may we go cruises this year. oh & we’re celebrating 2024 valentines together again! anyways, insyaallah we'll get the bto.
also, i've reconciled with the people i fell off friendships with in 2021 and i'm so happy i get to see them again and talk to them again. their humour are apparently all still the same. sending each other failed covers and stupid satire jokes. it makes me feel somewhat wholesome that i'm friends again with the people who were there for me when i was myself completely.
i am contented that i am myself, i am happy and i do not need to lead nor be strong for anyone anymore. i do not associate with the me in may 2023 to august 2023 (sadly my birthday month too) as i genuinely don’t know her. she’s a broken girl who leaned on people who were never meant to stay in her life and for that, i don’t know her. but all i know is, i’ll fight for the people who will fight for me. i’ll support you as much as i can. however, once you give up on me, i’ll only give you A Chance to redeem yourself or else, goodbye.
to my daddy, what the heck man. i haven’t seen you in two years and when my grandfather passed, he came. now he sees my family members more than me?! literally met my uncle before i meet him? chile. but yeah, my situation with daddy hasn’t change. it might when i want to get married but just for the camera, daddy!
lastly, my mom and i rarely fight, which is literally my biggest goal in 2023. so three cheers for me! thank you to my mom for being my biggest life supporter, life advisor, pillow to cry on. to more trips for you, mama!

The ending has me extremely weary of San though… like… did he actually do anything to save Haseul or was he playing it off?? Cause 1. Why’d he come back so late and 2. Why did he take a shower so late?? Especially since it was mentioned that Jongho’s shirt was nearly black from all the blood splatter like… could San have possibly been in on her death? There are some loopholes to the theory though such as what was he doing that took him so long if it doesn’t take that long to kill someone especially with 2 people and even if they tortured her for info then what info would they exactly need from Haseul because they already know so much about mc, etc.

Let's talk about 8x04
(Skipping writing about episode 3 because of obvious reasons.)
At this point, it's getting very hard to tell what is Pol!Jon and what is "oh no I fucked my aunt". Their relationship is disintegrating fast.
1) Sansa's motivations.
If there's anything this episode confirmed for me, it's that Sansa is not motivated by a desire for personal gain (not that I had doubts before).
Her line from S6 comes to mind:
"If we don't take back the North, we'll never be safe."
That's it. That's her motivation in a nutshell. Two things are important here, being safe and the North. In her mind they are inextricably linked.
I think she believes (for good reason) that for her and her family's safety, a Stark has to have power in the North. Exactly which Stark is much less important (she's ready to make Bran Lord of Winterfell, she loyally kept Jon's crown safe through S7, he's still the Warden in the North even tho she's the Lady of Winterfell). Basically, Stark power in the North means safety to her.
Another motivation for her is Northern Independence. I think a part of that is again linked to Starks being in power in the North. She doesn't trust people sitting on the Iron Throne. And a part of it is the independence part. She, her family and much of the North bled and died for that independence, and she cannot give it up so easily.
The real motivation she has in this episode tho is protecting Jon. She says as much herself. Tyrion points out that with Jon in the South, Sansa is the power in the North, but Sansa's mind is on keeping Jon North (aka safe). The moment she told Tyrion his secret kinda reminded me of Cat freeing Jaime. It's a dangerous gamble that they're taking, but in that moment they decide to fuck it because if the gamble pays off, then the people they love (Sansa, Arya, Jon) will be safe. Sansa is fighting for Jon in this moment.
2) I don't wanna bitch about Dany but....
Can't she have said any throwaway line acknowledging the whole "the man I thought is my father actually isn't my father" crisis Jon was probably having inside his head??? Did she really just make his parentage all about her?? Nobody tell me she loves him.
Honestly, I think she's a great character (in the books). Going down a dark path, yes, but still great. The show makers appear to be hurrying along her descent now. This entire scene was jarring.
Moving on from the bitching-
Danaerys is really doubling down on the "what's mine", "the rightful Queen", and even "her destiny" now. The problem is that she's technically wrong. Jon has a better claim than her, and she knows it. Saying that he could take what's hers is plain incorrect. Now if she said, "fuck claims anyway. I've worked for this Throne" I would respect that. At least it's self aware.
3) The lady doth protest too much..?
I think Jon spent half this episode saying, "I don't want the Throne", "you are my Queen", and "she'll be a good Queen". Maybe I'm imagining it, but there is urgency in his words. He's trying to convince the people he is talking to. Who is he talking to?
Dany, Sansa and Arya.
Funny thing tho, in that same conversation with Sansa and Arya, it's established that he "did what he had to" because they needed Danaerys to fight the WW. Now this doesn't contradict his tag lines this episode exactly...but they don't seem entirely congruent with each other either. "Had to" implies a reluctance. Like his hand was forced. At the same time, even tho he keeps talking about how she'll be a good Queen, he provides no reasons for why he believes that, no explanation...only these lines. It makes for an unconvincing argument (sorry Jon).
Someone does say that Dany would be a good Queen because "people follow her" (either Tyrion or Jon) but we already know that's not true. People have not followed her since she came to Westeros, and while the show makes a point of establishing that Jon is liked by his people all the more for his role in the Great War, the same cannot be said for Dany.
So here we have Jon and Tyrion both defending "their Queen" hard. It is known that Tyrion, despite his protests, is having serious doubts about Dany. It is known that he is afraid of her (Sansa establishes that in her conversation with him). It is known that he is aware of her "worst impulses".
Why then, is Jon not? Why is he not having serious doubts? Why is he not afraid of her? Why is he not aware of her worst impulses? How can he not be?
The simple answer is, he is.
4) the "stfu or I stg" look.
The look he gives Sansa during the battle planning meet where she suggests letting the troops rest. Honestly? It's a sound suggestion. Jon, who has been Lord Commander, led people in battle, and is generally not known for mistreating his troops should agree with her. So why does he shut her down so hard, and with that look?
Dany says, "the longer I wait, the stronger my enemies grow". Which enemies?
It's a safe assumption to make that Dany is including Sansa in that list of enemies. As Tyrion says to Sansa (I don't remember the words exactly) but something to the effect of "it's easier to give in to her (Dany)" and Sansa immediately catches that Tyrion is afraid of Dany.
Now Jon is forcing Sansa to give in to Dany.....you see where I'm going with this.
This, along with his insistence that Dany is his Queen and she will be a good Queen....
Here's the thing. There are three things that could be happening here.
First, Jon is afraid of Dany and is being extremely accommodating to keep the heat off himself, and forcing Sansa to do the same.
Second, he's really Stockholm Syndromed his way into falling in love with Dany and he means everything he says.
Third, he has miraculously lost his critical thinking skills, his ability to see and hear Dany making some very dark threats (itching to burn KL, increasingly paranoid about Tyrion and Sansa, only concerned with the better claim that Jon now has on her Throne) and all his brain cells.
I know which of these things I want to believe.
5) In love?
Are Jon and Dany in love?
Danaerys is not. She felt something for him, yes, but now that she's discovered his parentage....her priorities are abundantly clear. She does not trust him, she is concerned only with the consequences this reveal has on her claim.
Her reaction is a mix of legitimate fear that this may be the end of her, a more concerning sentiment of "what it will do to the people" because what exactly will it do to the people...? A fear that he will "take what's hers" nevermind that she's supposed to love and trust him and he hasn't done anything himself to prove he's untrustworthy, and a fear of what it will do to "us" (?what?).
Does this make me think she honestly loves him? No.
Does he love her? It doesn't look like it. But we've already established that it's never particularly looked like he loves her. The question now is why does he keep insisting that he is subservient to her? Where does Pol!Jon end and the breakdown of their relationship begin?
The greatest irony of Jonerys is that it's supposed to be the most epic love story, but it's the story of two people that are incapable of truly loving each other.
6) are you seriously telling me
Are you seriously telling me that Jon reluctantly gives away his crown to this woman because he felt that he was left with no choice (and the woman greatly contributed to making him feel that way) and he simultaneously falls in love with her?
Honestly? It's a bit reminiscent of Yggrite. The entire story from Jon going to Dragonstone till now is very reminiscent of Yggrite. I would just like to believe that Jon's character has developed and grown since Yggrite.
And if Dany is Yggrite, then she's an Yggrite who is threatening mass murder and the lives of Jon's family. Are you seriously telling me Jon is capable of loving that (in a healthy way)?
My god. I get what people say now about Jon's character being assassinated. Pol!Jon is really my only option if I want to keep his character somewhat consistent. I guess we have to make our own consistency in this world too.
