Pokemon Horizons Episode 45 Review - The End Of The Second Chapter
What a great way to end the second chapter! The raid battle against Rayquaza was intense but great! Liko, Roy and Dot show off their improved battling tactics alongside Friede and Amethio, who shows up unexpectedly after his colleagues retreated. Just seeing the fruits of their hard work from Amethio mastering Terastal to Liko and Roy battling so competently without the need of Friede’s handholding to Liko’s Sprigatito evolving into Floragato, a rare occurrence for Grass-type starters.
Tumblr media
The battle between the Trainers and Rayquaza was really good. I loved how Friede chose to split them up as he took Roy and Fuecoco with him and left Cap with Liko and Dot so that he could command him to use Volt Tackle to launch up Quaxly and Fuecoco in the air. The way Roy even landed a hit on Rayquaza with Disarming Voice was so cool to see! When Amethio comes into the fray, he shows off his Tera Ghost Ceruledge and the double battle with him and Tera Dark Charizard was so cool! I can see why the kids want to learn Terastal now.
Tumblr media
I was very surprised that the writers would allow Sprigatito to evolve into Floragato. Usually, the anime writers have a severe allergy towards making Grass-type starters evolve. Since Black and White, Ash’s Snivy never evolved; Clemont’s Chespin never evolved; Ash’s Rowlett ate an Everstone and couldn’t evolve; Goh’s Grookey didn’t evolve. I was expecting the same thing to happen to Liko’s Sprigatito, but the writers actually went beyond my low expectations. I have hopes that the same will happen for Roy and Dot and that all three kids will get their Starters to be fully evolved later on. Fuecoco also learns Flame Charge. It’s nice to see Fuecoco learning all sorts of moves. I do wonder when he’ll evolve. Maybe in ten episodes?
Tumblr media
I’m glad that the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers are okay after the major damage the airship took. I do worry about Carkoal’s safety as it’s not present with the other evacuated airship Pokemon. Hopefully, it’s just safe in the engine room as it does look quite heavy to be evacuated safely (yet they were able to move a Nosepass with ease). Because it will take a while for the airship to repair, their adventures come to a halt here. Since the kids will attend school, I do wonder what the adults will do. Will they take up jobs nearby and meet up with the kids occasionally?
The Explorers section was quite interesting. Gibeon tells them to lay low and wait for the Rising Volt Tacklers to get the Six Heroes and then take them from them. That sounds like a solid plan for now. He also wants them to monitor Terapagos and Liko. Uh-oh. The fact that Gibeon knows Lucius, which means that he is most likely aware that she is his descendant. A glimpse of Gibeon is seen towards the end. He has white and black hair, but in a different pattern from Amethio. I’m assuming they’re related, but as ancestor and descendant as Gibeon isn’t supposed to be alive in this era. I’m convinced he’s an AI. He also has a Shiny 10% Zygarde, meaning that Legends Z-A lore will be implemented in the near future, or it’s just an easter egg for the upcoming game. I’m also wondering why Spinel smirked at the end before being dismissed from the meeting. He seems to have more ambitious goals, so I’m curious what his deal is—and it’s not because he’s my favorite or anything, okay?
Tumblr media
Overall, the Terapagos’s Shine chapter was a good arc. It was nice seeing progression for Liko and Roy as they grow from novices to more experienced trainers. I can’t wait to see how they will grow with Dot once they study about Terastal at Orange Academy. In fact, I can’t wait to see their school adventures! What are your thoughts on the second chapter now that it ended? Are you anticipating the third chapter?

underneath the mistletoe
Goh isn’t the biggest fan of Christmas, so while joining Ash in Pallet Town for the holidays seemed like a good idea at the time, it quickly becomes clear he's in way over his head. It's just his luck that Gary happened to be coming home at the same time. And what in the world is with all this mistletoe, anyway?
fandom: pokemon (anime) rating: t relationship(s): ash/goh/gary word count: 21.1k read it here
When Ash suggested Goh come with him to Pallet Town while the Cerise Institute is shut down for the holidays, Goh said yes before he could even stop to consider what might be getting himself into.
This turns out to be a larger mistake than he anticipated. The idea of spending the holidays somewhere other than at home waiting for his parents to at least call was so alluring, it failed to occur to him that beyond the obligatory exchange of gifts he would be expected to participate in, most people engage rather…excessively in Christmastime festivities.
In spite of its size, Pallet Town boasts some considerable holiday spirit. There is not a single house lacking in decoration so far as Goh can see, and the Ketchum household is no exception (though to his immense relief, it is far from the gaudiest show of lights on the street). As they walk by them all, Ash enthusiastically informs him that you can see the New Year's fireworks from Viridian City even this far away, though they’re obviously much better up close.
It’s the first time Ash has been home for the holidays in years, by his own admission, so Goh does his best to smile and nod and ooh and aah as much as his excitement necessitates. He tries not to think too hard about the fact that he has willingly signed himself up for two weeks of this.
Ash’s mother ushers them inside upon their arrival and immediately steers them and their Pokémon toward the kitchen, where Ash is thankfully silent at least for the next ten minutes—as long as it takes him to clear his plate and then another—during which time Goh is able to breathe a little easier, at least until Mrs. Ketchum begins talking:
“I know you’ve both only just arrived, but I could really use a hand with decorating the diner once you’ve had a chance to settle in.” She turns her beaming smile on Goh. “My Ash used to help with the Christmas decorations every year, so once I learned he would be coming back home for the holidays, I made sure not to put a single thing up until he arrived!”
“‘Course we’ll he’p!” Ash says through a mouthful of stew. When he swallows, he leans over to nudge Goh in the arm. “It’ll be lots of fun, Goh! Mom’s restaurant always wins the decorating contest.”
“The…what?”
Mrs. Ketchum laughs. “Oh, it’s nothing big, dear. Just a silly local competition between a few business-owners. But, well…I don’t expect to lose, so I hope you brought your decorating shoes!”
From where he and Pikachu are eating, Grookey gives an affirmative, far-too-happy-for-Goh’s-liking chitter, and he knows there will be no hope of getting out of this one.
After dinner, Delia shoos them both out of the kitchen and tells them to let her know when they’re ready to go to Pallet House. Ash chatters the whole way up the stairs to his room, while Goh wracks his brain for every excuse he possibly can to get out of decorating. I’m just so tired is too dismissive and I’m not feeling well is too obviously a lie; I just don’t have much sense for these things is too defeatist—Ash would see through him in an instant—but I hate Christmas is a bit too honest.
Ash knows that his family doesn’t do much in the way of celebrations, but Goh just didn’t have the heart to dim that exuberant expression with the truth. Ash’s enthusiasm is usually fairly contagious; it’s just not going to happen where all things Christmas are concerned.

Just some soft boys(tm) because I’m so soft about them it almost makes me cry

“Grookey! Grookey, where did you go?”
“Grookeeeyyy!”
There's a happy chirp from one of the trees and suddenly Ash finds himself with a faceful of monkey. The force of the jump isn't enough to set him off balance this time and he pries the happily babbling Pokémon off of his head.
“Goh, I found it!” he yells in the direction of the other boy, who comes running at the sound of his voice. “No sign of my cap though,” he says as Goh reaches the two, Pikachu at his heels.
“Oh, that's not good,” Goh frowns and accepts the bundle of giggling monkey into his own arms. “Why did you run off with it like that?” he admonishes Grookey but it only hits him with its stick and blabbers something unintelligible. “Wow, thanks,” he mutters but he knows he can't stay mad at the baby Pokémon for too long.
-
They keep searching until after dinnertime and both boys sit down on a fallen tree along one of the numerous paths in the forest, beat. They feel like they've combed half the forest already - Grookey hadn't been missing for that long, how did it manage to lose the Arceus damned hat so completely?
“I don't think we're going to find it,” Goh moans and rubs his eyes. Grookey jumps off of him to check out an abandoned campfire across from them, carefree as always.
“Don't lose hope! I'm sure it's around here,” Ash says, stretches his arms above his head and yawns. “We still haven't checked out that part,” he then points at the path leading to Viridian City. “Maybe Grookey just wanted us to have a little detour.”
“No way,” Goh snorts. Ash's words do reassure him however and he leans back to look up to the sky. A few clouds are drifting overhead, pushed by the gentle breeze... He closes his eyes and sighs. The day has been pleasantly warm and walking through the forest has been nice, all things considered.
“I'm so hungry though,” Ash says abruptly and his stomach growls as if to lend weight to his words. Goh can't help but laugh. He digs through his pockets and hands Ash two breakfast bars.
“That's all I have on me but it should stave off your inevitable death by starvation. You're very welcome.”
Ash takes the bars but hesitates, poking Goh into his ribs with one of them.
“What about you though? You can't go without eating, either!”
“Don't worry, I'm not that hungry-”
“Yeah, sure,” Ash grins and hits Goh on the head with the bar. “Take it.”
Goh grumbles but snatches the bar from his friend's fingers, if only to not get hit again. Grookey takes care of that just fine by itself, thank you very much.
“Jeez, okay. But you better not whine about your empty stomach before we get to the Pokémon centre, alright?”
“You have my word!” Ash manages to say around a mouthful of oats and whatever else the breakfast bars are made of. Goh chuckles and unwraps his own bar.
-
They eat in easy silence and the food is gone fairly quickly. Despite the small size of the portion, Goh feels strangely content as he pops the last piece into his mouth. He glances at his research partner who's already finished his own snack and is playing with Pikachu on his lap. It's a cute sight and instinctively Goh looks around for Grookey, spotting it asleep on a patch of moss next to the campfire. Oh well, at least it won't get in trouble like that.
Goh looks back at Ash and feels a familiar warmth settle between his ribs. Ash can be silly but he's also determined, and strong, and funny. Ash is also kind. Ash is forgiving. He didn't get upset when Grookey snatched his hat and absconded with it and even after searching for it for hours, he's still in high spirits. Goh knows very well what a handful his little green friend is, having lost his patience with it more times than he likes to admit. Ash never loses his patience with any of his Pokémon and he never does that with Goh's Pokémon, either. He doesn't value anything over the trust he's built with his friends, both Pokémon and people. It's inspiring.
Given the opportunity, Goh doesn't hesitate to blabber on and on about his fateful encounter on the day he met Ash. It's about Lugia, of course, but as time goes on he can't shake the feeling of it being more than just about the legendary Pokémon - it feels like he didn't have just one fateful encounter that day, but two.
He's never seen Lugia again after that day. Ash, however... Ash has stuck at his side ever since. And isn't that a wonder.
“Hey, Goh?”
Ash's voice interrupts his thoughts and Goh blinks just to find the trainer's eyes fixed on him. Oh no, had he been staring?
“Y-yeah?”
“Thanks for searching for my cap with me,” Ash says, surprisingly level-headed. “I know you'd much rather look for new Pokémon than my silly old hat, so I really appreciate it.”
The sincerity of the words takes Goh by surprise and he's sure his cheeks have already flared red. There's no hiding it but he turns away from Ash anyway.
“I, uh- Yeah, of course! It's important to you!”
Ash merely grins at him and stands up, Pikachu scurrying up onto his shoulder. He starts towards the other path, expecting Goh to follow. He doesn't.
”Could we... stay, a while?” Goh asks instead. Ash turns to look at him, perplexed, but sits back down on the log.
“Yeah sure, but we still have to find out where Grookey dropped my cap...”
“We'll find it,” Goh replies easily, turning to look at the other trainer. He's smiling and there's a sparkle in his blue, blue eyes. Ash only stares at him and Pikachu on his shoulder sighs and shakes its head. Seeing this, Goh laughs and shakes his head as well, effectively mimicking the Pokémon. He looks at the path ahead of them and chuckles.
He wants to stay here in this moment for just a little while longer. The future is in the palm of his hand - their hands - and it's up to them to mould it as they please. Goh has always known that he wants Mew to be a part of the shape his future ends up taking but it's not the only thing he's sure of.
He wants Ash to be a part of it, too.

Based on a conversation with @shinyhappydigistar. -Ash gets fed up with Iono filming him every waking moment, made worse they share a dorm together at the Academy, and has thrown out some of her stuff out of frustration and starts to tear into her about her sleep stream pranks on him until he realizes…-
Ash: Wuh-WHY ARE YOU STREAMING THIS?! Pikachu: -indignantly- PIKA!!??
Bellibolt: -looks embarrassed and a little fed up as well at Iono- Bellibo…! -says sheepishly-
Iono: Whaaaat? People love drama! Why do you think the Porygon does so well over Zubatman comic drama?
Ash: What, that stuff over Tim Druddigon? Pidgey the Boy Wonder should like who he likes, so long as he still gets to fight Killer Croconaw!
Iono: Wow…, that’s surprisingly progressive from you, I wasn’t expecting that. …Oh hey I got a donation!
Ash: Who would give a donation to this Trubbish fire of a live stream…? -back to being annoyed-
-Cuts away to a far off Paldean campsite Goh and Gary Oak are staying at, having teamed up again for research in Paradox Pokemon. Gary and his Electivire both give a dark chuckle as Gary swipes on his Rotom Phone to give another donation, laughing at Ash’s misery.-
Goh and Grookey just stare disappointingly at him: I thought you and Ash were friends, Gary…
Gary -shrugs-: Old habits die hard, and I still enjoy Ashy being taken down a peg.
-A Brute Bonnet walks by the boys, stops and is curious at what they’re so enamored by, shrugs and waddles on by.-
-Back at the school-
Iono: Oh another donation! …Uh oh it’s from Clavell…
Ash: Heh serves you right!
Iono: … He wants to see us both in his office pronto, dude…
Ash: Aw, Ratatta…
Pikachu: Pikachu… (says dejectedly)
-At the office, everyone is still in their jammies, which makes the situation more comical than it is, with Ash in an old Indigo League sleeveless shirt and boxers, Iono in an Elesa themed tang top and Zebstrika sleep pants, and Clavell wearing a loud colored Pokeball themed night cap and gown, along with his Oranguru.-
Clavell: -sighs- I suppose I should’ve seen this coming, having two, uh, how do the kids say it? Having two Gogoated personalities together. In the same room…
Ash: Does that mean Iono can get her own room? Preferably far, far away from me and Pikachu…?
Clavell: Unfortunately the only other dorm was taken by that pink and blue haired RA team with the Meowth we hired, so you two will have to continue sharing.
Iono: Hah! More streaming content for me!
Clavell: Not so fast, Iono. I have some rules to lay down an- Iono, please stop streaming, no one wants to see this. It’ll be boring. At least I’ll do my best to make it boring!
Oranguru: Guru-ran. (Agreeing).
Iono: Fiiiine. -makes the cut motion at her Rotom phone, who cuts off the feed.-
-Ash, Pikachu and Bellibolt all sigh in relief-
Clavell: Your streams help fund the academy, Iono, that much is clear, but for the sake of our student teacher Mr. Ketchum, please back off on him. No more of these dragged out streams and pranks for views. World Champion or not, all it’s done is be a distraction to the students, facility, and in particular it’s made Alfie upset.
-Ash and Iono look surprised.-
Iono: Lil’ Al? What-why?
Clavell: Seems he isn’t a fan of his two heroes fighting each other, well, not in a Pokémon battle I mean. He came to me earlier concerned about what was going on.
Ash and Iono look at each other sheepishly.
Clavell: So can I trust you two will get along? If not for my sake, then for your young friend Alfie’s sake?
Ash and Iono look at each other embarrassingly and fidget a bit.
Ash: …Y’know what? If you promise to limit your streams about me to just classes I need your help with and Pokémon battling, I think we can manage. -holds out hand to shake-
Iono: Throw in anytime Team Rocket crashes the party too, and you have a deal.
-They both smile and shake hands.-
-Clavell and Oranguru smile satisfied.-
Clavell: Good, good. Now if you excuse me, I have some, ah, Pokémon Sleep to catch up on. -looks at the camera and winks- Just clean up that that little pile of AV equipment in your hall, and we’re Gholdengo. -shuffles off to his bedroom-
Ash: That shouldn’t be too bad…
Pikachu: Chuu…
Bellibolt: B’bolt…
Iono: Provided none of my stuff got wrecked… -shoots a look at Ash- Some of that Silph Co. tech they don’t even make anymore…
Ash: I didn’t know… Besides I have a techie friend from Kalos who might be able to fix things…
Iono: -gives him the annoyed, narrowed eyed Phillip J. Fry meme look, before looking bright and cheerful all of a sudden- Cool beans~!

I was honestly a lot more affected by the ending of Journeys, but I think that’s how it was meant to be. Journeys had the emotional goodbyes, Lugia and Ho-Oh’s return, a montage with the theme song playing, a little hint at the future, and just overall made me cry. They were able to use Goh’s worries and difficulty saying goodbye as a way to represent us and then have Ash speak to us directly. Then they shocked us with the news that not only were Goh and Koharu leaving, so was Ash.
With Aim to be a Pokemon Master, it was about exploring what’s next for both Ash and us. We had 11 episodes to process that it was time to say goodbye, and maybe the format of the special wasn’t what some of us were hoping for, but it was a good way to wind down and have a few more classic adventures with Ash. They were trying to let us go gently. When Brock and Misty said goodbye, it wasn’t a big deal because they’ve done it before and they know they will be together again.
And Ash has finally defined what it is to be a Pokemon Master, it’s a never ending dream of befriending Pokemon, something that he can always have fun working towards. We can imagine any future for him, and we can focus on our own dreams and goals alongside him. Ash isn’t really gone, he will always be off on a silly little adventure, chasing the rainbow in the distance.

Quick overview on Lilli's Pokémon... Rewrite? Verse? Idk what this is lmao
All I really know for sure is that I have a lot of thoughts about pokemon's lore and plotlines. I want to try my hand at connecting stuff with a little more continuity because it's fun! There's no way I can get to everything because we'd be here all day, but I figured I'd set up the basic premise and include some fun notes/headcanons!
My general idea is focusing from the anime (up until Horizons) while also including more components from the games (such as more of the SWSH plot/rivals, Emma from XY's post game, Zinnia and the Delta Episode, etc). I also include a multitude of my own original characters, along with some of my friends' (most prominently @starkitters's goobers). Storylines are generally divided up by "sagas" based on the original generation they take place in! I may include some Horizons as it would coincide with ScaVio, but I need to catch up with that series (though from the looks of it it’s all pretty banger)!
This concept is definitely going to mostly get smaller things of art/comics/drabbles and whatnot rather than a full-fic/comic series or whatever because... oh gosh there's way too much. Also obviously not going to cover every single anime episode bit by bit because that would make me insane!!
As for a general timeline— a lot of this main stuff would kinda unfold in the span of 2-3 years? I might make it longer, but then again a lot can happen in even just a month, y’know? Generally, Ash would stay 10 between Indigo League-Advanced, 11 by DP-XYZ, and 12 during SuMo-Journeys. The Legends Arceus shenanigans would probably be during Journeys and the ScaVio stuff is definitely after (I'm thinking potentially a year or so after Journeys' saga would be wrapped up? Though it could even be immediately after idk).
There is. A ton of information even just in this little intro post, and a lot of it isn’t even fully concrete either. But if you find the time to read through it all, I’d really appreciate feedback!
General/Introductory Information
Earlier involvement from rivals/evil teams such as the Galar Rivals, N and Team Plasma, Team Skull, etc! All of that will be covered more in the respective sagas they all appear in, lol
I'm kind of on the fence for whether or not more player characters would be included? May, Dawn, and Serena are canon companions/major characters the anime, I'm including Brendan as Birch's son and Lucas as Dawn's twin brother, Akari and Rei are both going to be native to Hisui, etc.
So far, the mc roles that are taken up by OCs include my characters Lilac (involved in XYZ/SuMo but becomes a Swsh Gym Challenger), Stacy (Emmet's daughter, travels back to Hisui to find her missing Uncle), and Chrys (main Naranja student involved with Nemona, Arven, Penny, and also Kieran and Blueberry stuff). @starkitters's oc Arthur also kinda takes an mc role as Hop's bestie/neighbor and the two of them work with the knight-wolf duo (Zacian and Zamazenta) instead of Ash and Goh just kinda... feeling shoved in there. Ash and his Journeys buddies still get involved in the Darkest Day shenanigans, but another Gym challenger/Hop's bestie)
While characters like Red and Blue/Green aren't really going to be involved since Ash and Gary already kinda take up those roles, there is potential in making like... Ash's dad a Red-esque character? A character based on Leaf? We've also gotten cameos of Jimmy (Gold/Ethan) and Marina (Krys) from the old OVAs and Lyra is briefly seen during DP... but tbh we get so little on them it wouldn't be too difficult to make the OVAs an au or something? I'll have to play with all of it.
The Black and White/Best Wishes saga is going to get some major storyline reworks. Team Rocket (Jessie, James, Meowth, and Wobuffet, etc) aren't going to start actually doing evil shit/working directly with Giovanni out of nowhere. Rather, they get have their own route uncovering stuff about N and Team Plasma, which follows more of the storyline from BW1. Characters from BW2 like Colress and Hugh are definitely still going to appear and their deal won't really change too much, but I'll have to figure out their involvement (especially with Colress he’s got a lot of potential for his own stuff imo). Cheren and Bianca are in a "halfway" sorta period and acting as apprentices for Lenora and Juniper respectively.
I'm mostly going off of the Scarlet side of the ScaVio storyline, with Naranja Academy being in Mesagoza and Sada being the professor inside Area Zero. However, Uva Academy and Turo are also going to be involved! Essentially, Naranja is a school that focuses on helping its students figure out and prepare for careers connected with pokemon (trainers, coordinators, breeders, doctors/nurses, etc) in a more general sense. Uva Academy in Zapapico is primarily a research school (especially prominent for professors and scientists) while Blueberry in Unova specializes in professional battling (League Members, Battle Facilities, etc). Naranja provides courses and connections for careers Uva and Blueberry have niches in, but it's the difference between attending a more well-rounded school and attending a specialized one, if that makes sense.
Turo develops the Terastral Orbs used throughout the Paldea region, while Sada focused on Area Zero and develops the time machine that brings past and future Paradox Pokemon. Their relationship is super complicated and messy /pos. I don't think they ever got officially married, but they're 100% divorced in spirit.
Since the games kinda write Sada and Turo interchangeably (even outside of the whole AI deal) and they're described in the same ways besides pronouns and stuff, I want to make the professors a little more distinct from each other. Sada dives head-first into her passions and doesn't like anything or anyone holding her back, Turo is more conscientious but can come off a lot colder than he intends sometimes, etc.
I know most people hc the Subway twins (Ingo and Emmet), Elesa, Skyla, etc to be in like their late 20s/early 30s... but since I gave Emmet a daughter who's the mc of the Legends Arceus saga... they're actually gonna be slightly younger than Lusamine (around 38 or so) lmao. Let's get more nice and hot older adults up in here
Silver (Giovanni's son/Johto rival) is included! Since there's already a baby Lugia in the anime named Silver and that's just... too perfect, this rendition of the character is going to be named Sage (Yomogi in Japanese). I'm still figuring out his personality and stuff since Paul's whole "be the strongest/pokemon are just tools" thing was pulled from game!Silver, but I kinda want to play with Sage being a little more mellowed out by the time we would meet him in Johto Journeys? He acts as an assistant for Professor Elm, and is surprisingly great with raising pokemon despite the edgy tough-guy act he usually keeps up. He and Brock can nerd out about breeding and nuturing techniques and stuff.
An original team I made myself, Team Comet, acts as a foil of sorts to Team Flare. They’re fighting over (literal) life and death
I’m not entirely sure how to make this work, but I really want AZ’s ultimate weapon to be the (super buffed up) prototype of the healing machines used in pokemon centers. Like… the current machines extract infinity energy from deceased pokemon’s remains (such as ashes and stuff) instead of. Y’know. Draining living pokemon of that energy directly, causing them to die. AZ himself developed this practice as an attempt to redeem himself from all of the tragedy he caused in the name of his Floette. His full name is Azrael Jovalie… making him a pivotal ancestor to the Joy family.
Several large family-clans are the primary leaders of international organizations. The Joy family runs the pokemon centers and overall healthcare facilities, Jenny family runs the international and local police departments, the Jordan family are firefighters who provide aid and try to prevent natural disasters, etc (they may be involved with pokemon rangers? I’m not entirely sure). Others are obviously welcome to work in these forces as well, and members of these families aren’t (usually) forced into working the family business if they want to pursue other goals.
Obviously the anime has all the service-people look identical to safe on time and everything, but I think making unique designs and characters for the Joys, Jennys, etc is a fun concept! No matter their gender or ethnicity, almost every member of a poke-business family have hair and eye colors in the same spectrum. For example, almost every Joy has pink hair that’s styled in circular/drop shapes to some capacity, and blue eyes. Jennys have teal/turquoise hair in lightning shaped styles, and brown eyes. Jordans have charcoal black hair that looks like smoky wisps, and fiery orange/gold eyes.
Xerosic (creepy ass scientist dude who forces you to push a button and coaxes Emma into his expansion suit testing) was originally from Ultra Megalopolis. I’m not entirely sure how to connect him to all the Team Flare stuff??? Or even how exactly he ends up in Kalos but he was part of the Ultra Recon Squad and volunteered to travel to the “main” pokemon world for the to see where Necrozma might try to take all the light next. But when he actually shows up there, he just. Doesn’t care. He’s so fascinated by all of the different pokemon and how energy manifests in such different ways… All he wants to do is learn everything he can about it
Eternatus is an Ultra Beast! The ricochet from AZ’s Ultimate Weapon woke it up and caused the first darkest day.
Builing more from the Adventures manga, Galar was already starting to lose its energy, but the issue is actually going to be addressed far more openly. As Eternatus slept for thousands of years, its dynamax energy gradually dies down to the point where it can’t really be used as a proper resource— especially not to power so many of Galar’s communities. Rose definitely pushed a lot of the reliance of dynamax energy in recent history, but I’m certain Galar has relied on Eternatus for even longer. What makes Rose’s plan to wake Eternatus up again even more messed up (besides putting so many people and pokemon in danger), is that he’s essentially harvesting Eternatus of its energy: Wake it up to get the dynamax levels up again, (have Leon) catch it so it doesn’t go back to sleep… Rose sees the pokemon less as an actual creature and more like a walking power plant, definitely in part with how different Eternatus looks from “normal” pokemon.
The original Sun/Moon storyline with Lusamine and her kids happens first (Lusamine is a mix of the doting from the anime and her abuse from the games… she’s messy /pos). Then, around the time Ash and his friends meet Poipole, that’s when we’d meet the Ultra Recon squad and get into the Necrozma stuff.
Y’know Goh’s whole thing with wanting to catch Mew? How Jessie’s mom died in pursuit of Mew? And the eventual data she found was used for Mewtwo’s creation? Do you see how I’m connecting the dots?
Misc Information
Harley is one of Karen's cousins, making them both descendants of Sanqua (Galaxy Team's Construction Leader) and her little brother, Melli (Diamond Clan Warden of Coronet Highlands). Obviously... we can tell who took after who even after all these years, lmao. They also have a baby cousin (one of my ocs lol) named Jimson from Laverre City (Kalos) who is currently one of the Blueberry League Club's Biome Leaders! He specializes in psychic types... and is lowkey a chuunibyou (really commits to the wizard/witch act)
While Serena is in Hoenn, she meets Lisia and the two become girlfriends besties! They’re like twelve so idk if they’d actually do anything with their feelings but the mutual pining is very very apparent. Their ship name is Dreamshowshipping!
Chloe is highkey a lesbian. That’s just always how I’ve interpreted her??? She’s constantly shocked that Ash knows all of these cute girls. I think her and Iris eventually being a couple would be very cute. If Flowershipping isn’t taken, I shall call them that!
Because I am not immune to @yamujiburo’s propaganda of Hanamusashipping (Hiii Kiana if you’re reading through all of this I am so honored and so sorry it’s so much gjdhdhdhs), I love the idea that Jessie and James start a poly/ish thing with Delia!! By that I mean Delia and James are more so queerplatonic and Jessie is smooching both of them lmao. Ash’s step parents have been here the whole time yippee!!
Arven gets a harem to make up for all the trauma (/j but also not). He gets 2 boyfriends (Giacomo and Drayton) and a girlfriend (Copaia, my main Uva student character). They are all bisexual, bet u didn’t know that ;p
Carmen and Amarys are lesbians and girlfriends!! They’ve been dating for 2 years until the main events of the ScaVio saga
I’m not entirely sure what to do with Indigo League’s Elite 4 since it changes between Kanto and Johto?? Will and Karen are definitely well-known trainers (and possibly even coordinators?) in their own right, but idk if or when they would take Lorelai and Agatha’s places. They might become members around Journeys (since I’m treating that as a general 2 years since Indigo League), but that’s very much up in the air.
Xerosic straight up ditches his daughter (Zossie). Which. He was never that good of a parent anyways but.
Klara is the younger sister of Lacey’s mother (who I have as an oc), making her an aunt! She gave Lacey her Galarian slowpoke/slowbrow.
Lucy is Kieran and Carmine’s older cousin. I know the go-to is that she’s their mom but Lucy’s vibe is more around her early 20s or so to me.
Because I adore the concepts I’ve found from @critterbitter and their mutuals, Ingo and Emmet are Drayden’s nephews. Which makes Stacy and Drayton second cousins— there’s so much comedic potential there you have no idea. Keep in mind that Drayden is also paternal figure to Iris, and Hop and Leon are her cousins… the family tree gets real complicated real fast lmao

Oh so I see what’s happening. Pikachu is showing Goh and Scorbunny how he and Ash died in a first perspective. I through he will show them in a third perspective. Isn’t it that a bit harsh?
Oh it absolutely is.
Remember that Pikachu ALSO lost his life in this AU, and is thus part Ghost type.
Pikachu was Petty when he was alive, being a Ghost type just ramps it up from Petty to Vindictive or even downright harsh.
As much as i adore them sitting down and talking it out, both Pikachu and Ash are on the extreme set of emotions because Goh started off strong.
Just a lil fun thing to toss in there uwu

PS Week Day 1 - Scuba Diving (Free Day)
What’s up, dudes, dudettes, and others.  I’ve been busy with college but here’s Day One of Pokeshipping Wekk while I work on the others for ya.
Seaside Fumbles
MISTY WATERFLOWER blinked and did a doubletake. She wasn’t sure if she had heard correctly.  “Could you, um, say that again, Ash?”
The black-haired Trainer raised an eyebrow and gave a silent snort.  “I said, ‘would you like to accompany me on an expedition to see a Dhelmise in a wrecked ghost ship outside of Cianwood City?’ and then you went silent on me.”
“Ah, okay. Just wanted to make sure I was hearing correctly,” replied Misty.  “But why me?”
“For a start, Goh decided he wanted to go looking for Tauri instead of helping me with this, and-” he gave her a tiny smirk, “I figured that we’d need the greatest Water-type Trainer to assist us on such a dangerous adventure.”
The Ceruluean Gym Leader felt her heart skip a beat, but she suppressed her emotions and smirked right back.  “Aww, isn’t that sweet?  Finally admitting to what I really am, huh?”
But Misty was wrong.  “Well, that was my plan,” explained Ash.  “But Wallace was occupied with the Hoenn League, so I just decided to ask the next best Trainer I know.”
“Ash Ketchum, you dirty little liar-”
“Kidding, kidding. I’m kiddin’, Mist!” laughed Ash as he waved his hand at her through the screen.  Misty fumed with rage.
           “Go jump off a cliff…”
“So, you want to come or nah?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’d like to go.  When is it?”
“About a week from now.  I’ll send you the finer details by email.  Anyway, I have to get going.  I’ll see you at Goldenrod harbor if we can’t call again, oh, and I was still going to call you regardless, I wasn’t going to ask Wallace, okay bye.” And before Misty could answer his sudden incoherent speech, Ash had already hung up.
“Huh,” was all that came out of the girl’s mouth for a minute.  Ash’s call had really come out of nowhere.  She’d heard recently that he’d become a research assistant at the request of Professor Cerise, a prodigy of Professor Oak’s. Getting called out to help with some research had been very surprising.
“Still,” she said quietly as she yawned and headed off to get herself some dinner, “even if it’s just to go see some Pokémon, it’s nice that we can spend some time together.”
OoOoO
Time passed quickly.  Misty’s excitement grew and grew.  The thought of seeing a Pokémon rare to the continent was an enticing prospect.  She wondered how well the Alolan Pokémon was adapting to its new climate or if there were any more nonnative Pokémon species aboard the ship.  That was all well and good, but seeing Ash was a reward enough – not that she’d tell him. They met at the port as arranged and were soon out at sea.
“Ah, this must be the place,” said Ash and Misty together as the boat slowed down and they dropped anchor.
“Right,” said research assistant Chrysa.  “We’ll go down with the submersible and use that to check inside the ship.  If you two can monitor things from the outside, that’d be a huge help, and in case things go up sticks with Dhelmise.”
“No trouble,” Ash declared.  “I choose you, Dracovish!”
           “Go my blue sweetheart, Gyarados!”
Ash and Misty took the lead and swam alongside the submersible to the ship. It was large and very much in a sorry state, taken back by nature.  Beautiful yet ominous and rife with tension.
“Careful,” Chrysa advised over the two-way radios they had attached to their goggles. “We can’t risk causing any instability with the ship, let alone angering Dhelmise.  Let the sub in and stand by.  Over.”
“Roger that,” said Misty.  “Standing by. Over.”
“Looks like it’s just you and me then, Mist,” said Ash as he pushed the sub toward the hole in the ship before swimming back her.
           “Dracovish, Draco?”
“Sorry, buddy.  We’re just here to make sure things go right.  You might not see any battling today.
Both Gyarados and Dracovish seemed discouraged by that.  Misty decided to offer up a different perspective.  “Hey, it’s better that things go right instead of wrong, yeah?”  The two Pokémon didn’t argue but were still feeling down.
“I know, why don’t we say hello to the native Pokémon?”  That cheered them.  Misty sighed inwardly; it was always nice how Ash could quickly come up with ways to appeal to Pokémon.
They went off, greeting schools of Goldeen and the traveling Tentacools.
Suddenly there was a commotion from the ship.  First a shockwave that felt like an earthquake, followed by a burst from the hole where Ash had let the submersible inside.
“Ash?  Misty?” said Chrysa frantically.  “There’s trouble.  Dhelmise has started to attack the sub!  Please go and see what’s wrong.  Me and the others are coming to retrieve the sub.”
Ash quickly turned and began swimming to the ghost ship.  As he approached, however, part of the hull disappeared and Dhelmise’s anchor shot out in front of him.  “Guh!  So that’s how it is…” said Ash grimly.  “Dracovish, use Ice Fang!”
           “Draco!”
“You go too, Gyarados.  Crunch!” Both Pokémon went in but then dozens upon dozens of other Water-types like Tentacools and Seels shot out from both in and out of the ship.  “I guess this must be their home!  They must not want us disturbing them!”
“It’s not like we mean them any harm!”  Ash swam quickly out of the way as he said that.  “Dracovish, come back!”  His Pokémon came over but just then Dhelmise roared from within and more Pokémon emerged from the rocks.  “You’ve gotta be kiddin’ me…”
“Gyarados, Hurricane!” yelled Misty as the Pokémon went for her.
Dracovish meanwhile was taking care of the Pokémon attacking Ash and it.  Ash monitored the situation; it was luckily going in their favor.  Soon he saw the sight of Goh’s Dewgong, whom he had left at the Cerise Lab for any missions he was needed on, and sighed with relief as that meant help was coming.
Then came some attacks, Ash got hit and as he disturbed some remains of the ship that had drifted away, he got a huge surprise!  “MAR!”
“Wow!” yelled Ash as a Mareanie popped out at him from the rubble.
“Mareanie!”  It lunged at Ash, hugging his face hard with its spikey tentacles and sent him into a panic. As the Mareanie let go, it had pulled the oxygen mask and goggles off.  Ash held his breathe but it went to waste when a drifting Tentacool fired a Poison Sting that shredded a small tear into his gear, piercing his skin, causing him to let all his air out.
Misty heard a commotion, looked over, and panicked on seeing Ash’s situation. She had Gyarados clear a path and swam quickly over to Ash just as he was fumbling the mask back on.
“Oh Mew, oh Mew,” muttered Misty as she helped him, placing the mask’s band back around his head before reattaching his goggles.
Ash groaned oxygen flowed into his lungs.  “Ugh… Thanks, Mist.”  Just then, Chrysa and the other hired hands arrived on the scene, summoning their own Pokémon to help with the situation.
“You have to get back to the ship for medical aid…”
“I know.  Dracovish, look after things here, okay?”  He gave a “Draco” in agreement.  Then Ash cringed as the poison sent painful signals down his nerves. Misty gave him a gentle push up before informing Chrysa over the radio that Ash was pulling out.  With some effort he began to swim back up.  Then Misty followed him.  “What are…you… Misty, I can make it on my own.”
“I know,” she replied, watching him swim unevenly yet consistently toward the surface, “but I’m helping anyway.”
“You…don’t…have to…”
A shockwave was felt, before they heard the cry of Dhelmise as it was attacked by one of the researcher’s Pokémon.  “Come on, before things get ugly,” said Misty, before grabbing Ash around his waist and pulling him up quicker.
“I…told ya…I’m fine…”
“Poison travels up the bloodstream quicker when you move, it’s better this way.”
Ash didn’t answer, he found breathing too hard and just quietly accepted Misty’s help.  They reached the surface.  Misty pulled Ash into the boat with help from Pikachu before beginning to administer aid. She held Ash’s hand tight when he cringed from the disinfectant touching the wound.
By the time she finished, Ash was pale and breathing hard, but only from the pain.  “Jeez,” said Misty, “leave dealing with Poison-types to your Pokémon.”
“It surprised me, that’s all…”
“Just be careful next time.”
“I’ll keep that in mind…when the next Beedrill hive chases me.”
“Yeah, yeah.”  Misty then sat down next to Ash and just stared at him.
“I’ll be fine,” he said upon noticing her.  “You should really get back to Chrysa and the others.”
“No.  I’m staying here with you.”
“I told you, I’m fine…”
“No!”
“But didn’t you come to see Dhelmise?”
“Compared to making sure you’re okay?  You’ve just been poisoned, Ash!”
“It’s your chance though to get a good look at a rare Pokémon in the Johto region!” wheezed Ash.  “Remember all the buzz around Harrison?  Blaziken was hardly a common sight and…”
“I’m not going.”
“Are you sure?  I mean, it’s why you came along, right?”
Misty paused before muttering in a quiet voice, “I joined because of you.”
Ash faltered when he heard that.  He blinked a few times before turning his head toward her.  “Me?”
“Yeah.  I mean…I was just…y’know… Ugh…when I heard you came home from Alola and joined Professor Cerise’s lab, I thought I’d at least get a few visits from you now that you’re close by.  I was just missing you, that’s all.”
“Ah, I…I see…”
“Pikachupi…”
“Sorry.  I really must’ve messed things up then by letting this happen to me.”
“You’re one to talk.  I seem to remember you going headfirst into a lot of things and ending up injured.”
“Yeah…” said Ash with a tired smirk.  “Everyone tells me I should cut that out.”
“You should.  Think about what others want of you.  You and I barely get much time to talk and here you go putting yourself in danger.” Ash didn’t reply.  Misty sighed to herself and allowed herself to be honest. “I miss you a lot sometimes, y’know…”
“I miss you too.  You’re not alone in that feeling.  How about…when we get back to Kanto, would you like to go to a ramen place with me?”
           “You mean it?”
“Yeah!” he said with as much energy as he could through the poison.  “To make up for missing out on Dhelmise.”
“His minds on Pokémon as per usual,” Misty said to the sky.
“Mm. But…I do think of you, too,” said Ash. “Really, you’re right, we should be hanging out more.  That’s...kinda why I asked for your help, I just wanted to see you, too.” Misty didn’t reply and just stared quietly at Ash.  “So…we good to get ramen and hang out?”
“Yes,” she said a bit too quickly, “we are.  Even though we’re technically hanging out already.”
“Yeah, yeah, I s’pose we are.  I…I just meant, more like a…a…”
She considered for a moment, unsure if she ought to say it, but decided to. “Date…?”
“Yeah, that’s…more or less what I mean.”
“Awesome.  Then…we have a date, I suppose.”  She felt her cheeks burning red but didn’t stop herself from blushing.
“I…would’ve asked you to go for ramen afterwards anyway,” confessed Ash. “I kinda realized I was thinking of that this morning.  Just as an excuse to be with you more beyond just helping with this.”
“Ash Ketchum…you sure have a weird way of saying you want a date.”
The Trainer from Pallet Town just snorted and went red.  “You got a problem with that?”
“Well…given that I’ve got a date to look forward to after this…no, not really,” replied Misty softly.
“Awesome.”  Ash game a small smile before sighing.  “Still, I could’ve done without the poison.”
“Yeah, that’s true,” laughed Misty.  She gently poked his shoulder.  “Now then, just you hold it together.  We’ve got a date coming soon and you better be feeling okay when it’s time – don’t fumble on me like you did back there.”

An additional twist on the PokeAni take on the Possession AU: A Manaphy somehow gets involved in the search and swaps Ingo’s and Emmet’s minds (because Arceus apparently decided Ingo wasn’t stressed enough), and they have to find it to switch back.
Emmet still wants to find the Zoroark (completely unaware that he’s now said Zoroark), and Goh is asking Emmet a lot of questions about what it feels like to be Ingo.
Ingo’s inner monologue is just a constant scream at this point. He would scream loud enough to break all the glass in Nimbasa, but Emmet unfortunately his lungs at the moment. He needs to find Manaphy before Emmet somehow separates from his human body. He’s also trying to convince the rest of the group that Manaphy’s also the reason Emmet can understand Pokémon now (Goh isn’t buying it).
ah, but would Emmet become the Zoroark? or would there now simply be a Zoroark in Emmet's body? I think it would be the latter. Which would mean, all of a sudden, Ingo's eyes aren't red-marked anymore, but Emmet's are.
And Ingo just sweats. He's glad no one else was around to see the swap or they probably would have noticed the giant ass Zoroark being yanked out of his body and swapped into Emmet's. And Emmet seems pretty blurry on that whole situation too! But nothing like this has ever really happened before.
Oh no. what if staying in this body for too long means it'll gain the same Zoroark feature's that his has? He knows that it happens when Zoroark who have lived out their human lifespans choose to possess another human body, but will it happen here? They'd better fix this quick before he has to explain to Emmet why his body suddenly has the same sharp teeth and nails that his own does.

Get Ash Ketchum therapy challenge. Seriously, this kid has died, has seen legends fight and try to tear apart the fabric of reality, may or may not be eternally ten years old (though no one else ever ages, so who knows-), and really does try his best… People are just pissy he isn’t Red or something- And! Don’t get me wrong, I love Red, he’s fun (though my favorite Adventures character will always be Yellow… Love my gender nonconforming daughter), but Ash is his own brand of special.
I mean really, how many other people repeatedly take in Pokémon that have been abused, neglected, or abandoned, and are willing to put up with the consequences that will have on said Pokémon, ranging from lashing out at him despite him having done nothing to earn it (Charizard, potentially from some form of insecurity) to what seems to be intense PTSD episodes (Infernape). And! People whine and bitch about him “abandoning” his Pokémon, but meta reasons aside- They wanted to go? Primeape wanted to win that fighting tournament, why would Ash trample on that dream? Why would he prevent Pidgeot from protecting a flock that needed her help so much? Why would he stop Goodra or Greninja from protecting places and Pokémon they care about, places and Pokémon he knows need them? He wants to be strong but strength isn’t the end all be all for him, he wants his Pokémon to be happy above all else!
Quite frankly, I don’t give a damn whether or not he’s the strongest, he’s certainly one of the kindest people in the entire damn franchise. I will die on that hill.
I feel like a lot of the hype/praise around Red comes from nostalgia. Like yeah, he has a reputation as a very strong trainer, but so do other characters... like Cynthia. I personally don't feel much hype around him aside from "Oh, it's Red, this might actually be a tougher battle". I didn't grow up with those games, so I don't have any kind of connection to Red. Technically speaking, Ash is my Red.
I may not be Ash's biggest fan, he's annoyed me a few times (evolve your Pokemon dude), but I don't hate him. And can I just say the Sinnoh League was absolutely rigged? The anime is more lore-based than the games, why was Tobias (was that his name) allowed to bring a Darkrai, Latios, and presumably more Mythical/Legendary Pokemon to the League battles? That's a significant and relatively unfair advantage over other contestants, and it felt like a cheap way to make Ash's journey continue.
Dude, I literally remember Ash having a death/near death streak in the movies alone! Like the movie about Victini, this dude almost froze and suffocated to death in outer space! Give my boy a break! And you're right, if we wanna talk about being considerate of Pokemon's feelings, Ash is right there. He is by far one of the best examples of treating Pokemon as sentient beings with their own choices. Like, how many people can say they'd be that chill about their Pokemon wanting to leave? How many people can say they'd LET them leave?
Put some respect on Ash's name.
(This is also off-topic but am I the only one who got upset they didn't use Hop in the anime? I remember my friend showing me Goh and I got so upset.)

(From Akari, once again)
(im not asking anonymously anymore lol)
For Goh,
Did you know that Braviary used to be a Flying/Psychic type in ancient Sinnoh? A few other Pokemon looked different in ancient Sinnoh than they do now, like Growlithe and Arcanine, they used to be part rock types!! And they were sooo cute too!!
For Ash,
There isn’t an Ash in my universe and in all the universes that I’ve seen, we have never had versions of ourselves live in the same universe, its always either a version of you or a version of me, but never both. Kinda odd and I just wanted to tell you lol
Goh: Congrats on overcoming your shyness! I know how hard it can be 🧐
I knew what ancient Braviary and the others looked like, but not what their types were... I guess the knowledge was lost to time. If only some intrepid researcher had catalogued all of them in some kind of illustrated encyclopedia! 😩
Ash: Oh... okay 😥 That's funky, though
Why would the existence two people be mutually exclusive?
Goh: Maybe it's like an RPG. If you pick the female option, the male character doesn't exist.
Ash: That's silly. You're so silly, my dear scone! 🤗 We're not in a video game
We're in a blog based on an anime based on a video game
Tumblr media
Chloe: Ash, please don't break kayfabe like that 😐

helllooo here to request some Goh and Gary moments. feel free to make it slash or gen or to include Ash as well!
wc: 2 279 read on ao3
The tension sets in long before Gary actually moves in, which is…expected, but still somewhat disappointing.
They talk about it over lunch together. It’s a temporary arrangement; Gary’s just in Vermilion City for a few months, or so he says, and he needs somewhere to stay. Ash figured Goh wouldn’t mind, so he agreed on behalf of them both.
“Of course I mind.” Goh bristles. “Are you out of your mind? I can’t spend two minutes around Gary without him being a jerk, and now I have to go home to him too?!”
Ash laughs nervously. He looks everywhere but Goh’s face. “Well… It’s not like you need to share a bed, right?”
“I’m going to kill you,” Goh mutters, and for a frightening moment Ash really believes it, too. But then—he relaxes. A hefty sigh draws Ash’s attention back to him properly. “Why couldn’t he talk to me about this, anyway? He really should have asked me in the first place, and you shouldn’t have said yes before he did. You’re both smarter than that.”
“He should’ve been here by now, actually.”
“He should’ve— Oh, you’re kidding me.”
Ash glances back to see what’s caught Goh’s eye so suddenly, and, yep. No confirmation needed, really; Ash has become rather familiar with that blazing look, and, though he’d never tell Goh, it’s half the reason he agreed to let Gary stay with them in the first place.
He smiles as Gary approaches. “Hey, Gary! You look great!”
It’s the truth, too; he’s not holding any of the tension he was the last time Ash saw him, just before he went off to Unova for some kind of conference on the origins of fossil Pokémon. Come to think of it, he’s seemed stressed for a while. Years, even. Maybe having housemates will be good for him, in that case.
“Good to see ya, Ash. Goh.” He takes up the chair next to Ash and flashes an easy grin across the table at a fuming Goh. “Long time no see.”
“That’s all you have to say?” Goh demands. “This isn’t very funny, you know. You and Ash going behind my back—it’s really rude, actually. I never asked—”
Gary puts his hands up, as if in surrender. “Hey, don’t go getting the wrong idea, Goh. You guys are doin’ me a huge favour, and I’ll be good, promise. Besides, Ash told me you were okay with it, so if anyone should be on the receiving end of this verbal lashing, it oughta be him, not me.”
Ash smiles sheepishly when Goh turns his glare on him. “It’s just for a while, right? Besides, you’re always saying stuff I can’t keep up with, and I know it frustrates you. Gary can match your pace, right?”
There’s that sigh again. It’s long-suffering, sure, but Ash knows a concession when he hears one.
Goh picks up his menu and grumbles out something that sounds like, “Fine.” When Gary looks his way, Ash just shrugs and reaches for his own menu. Things will work out. They always do.
-
They don’t work out right away, of course. Goh and Gary bicker over everything from the arrangement of the dishes (“The cups face down, not up!”) to Goh’s taste in books (“Couldn’t you have picked a more reputable author than this?”). Ash takes it in stride, content to let them squabble until they find a compromise, which despite Goh’s insistences otherwise, they usually do.
Gary brings a sort of balance to their daily routines, though. Like Goh, he is more of a night owl than Ash, and after dinner they find their quiet peace on either side of the couch where Ash can only assume they remain for hours even after he has gone to bed. In the morning, he often wakes before Goh and helps prepare breakfast, which Goh undoubtedly appreciates if only because he is a more versatile—and admittedly talented—cook than Ash.
Eventually, their compromises begin to outweigh their conflicts, and most of their arguing is more or less good-natured teasing (on Gary’s end, at least—“good-natured” may not be Goh’s first choice of word).
One evening, after Ash has cleaned up from dinner and then gone out for a brief training session with his Pokémon in preparation for an upcoming tournament, he returns to the apartment to find Goh and Gary not on opposite sides of the couch, but sat together in the middle. They don’t do much more than glance up when he enters, apparently engrossed in some kind of research paper laid out between them. They are so close their shoulders are touching.
Ash turns away to hide the smile it brings to his face, knowing neither of them would necessarily appreciate seeing it. He stands there for a while, though, just watching; every so often, one of them will comment on something, and the other will respond in that serious, academic voice they so rarely use with him.
Eventually, it is only exhaustion that pulls him away from the scene. But it stays in his head long after he has fallen asleep, a dream he’s had many times before that couldn’t possibly measure up to the real thing.
-
Though the tournament is nothing more than a local doubles competition, Gary and Goh both insist on coming to watch Ash compete. They have nothing better to be doing, apparently, a fact he is equal parts grateful for and annoyed by, because it turns out they are more distracting than he previously gave them credit for.
He boils it down to the fact that he’s never seen the both of them sit so close to each other for so long without Gary making one antagonistic jab or another or Goh getting fed up with him for breathing too arrogantly, or something. This isn’t completely true, because the scene from the couch last week has played out a few more times since, but maybe it’s the novelty of seeing it in the middle of the day, in public, knowing that a year ago they might have managed this only for his sake, but today their comfortable companionship is more than a series of simple compromises.
Still, he forces himself to focus as best he can; he is lucky, at least, that his Pokémon know him well enough to understand his intentions even when his attention isn’t all there. He wins the tourney, but narrowly; Pikachu chastises him for his distraction after the final battle, but, well…he can’t help it if he doesn’t quite hear it over the sounds of Gary and Goh cheering his name, in shocking unison, no less.
They both approach him after. Goh throws an arm around his shoulder while Gary pries the trophy from his hands to get a better look at it.
“That was great!”
Gary glances up with a wry smile. “You really pulled through there, Ashy-boy. What’s got you so distracted today, huh?”
Ash blinks. His grin falters, but he quickly covers it up with an awkward laugh. “I dunno. Guess I’m just a bit tired, is all.”
“You have been going to bed later than usual,” Goh remarks. “But if anything, that just makes your win more impressive, right?”
Ash scratches at the back of his neck. “I’m not so sure about that…”
“Well, either way.” Gary passes the trophy back to him with a brief, searching look. “Congratulations. Let’s go home and have something to eat.”
Ash feels Goh react to the word home, a clenching of his muscles and then…he relaxes. Smiles. Says, “Sounds like a great idea. I’m starving.”
On the way home, they walk on either side of him. Whatever Gary may or may not think, he says nothing more of it, but his arm brushes against Ash’s a few times as they walk, and he knows it doesn’t matter anyway. He’s proud of Ash. He’s just glad he was here to support him. He doesn’t have any easier of a time admitting than he does in admitting he’s glad Goh was beside him the whole time, too.
-
Gary keeps a closer eye on Ash during the evening hours, perhaps prepared to send him off to bed at a more respectable hour (he doesn’t point out that even his own mother wouldn’t enforce a bedtime anymore, if only because he’s finds Gary’s mother-henning the slightest bit endearing at the best of times), which unfortunately means he can’t spend quite as much time watching he and Goh curl up on the couch together and gossip about whatever budding researchers gossip about.
He finds other moments to watch them, though. Over dinnertime conversations when Goh leans over the table towards him without even realizing it. When they are cleaning up after the fact, dancing around each other in the kitchen with the ease of practice established by joint Project Mew missions many years ago, or when they occasionally don’t coordinate well enough and bump into each other, only to exchange light-hearted quips about the others lack of perception and laugh it off. Or when all three of them settle down in front of the TV, where Ash usually finds himself sandwiched between the two of them, and Gary stretches an arm across his shoulders until his fingers are brushing against Goh, as if that was his intention all along.
Weeks turn into months, and Gary still hasn’t gone anywhere, but Goh stopped asking when he was planning to quite some time ago. He’s still sleeping on the couch, though Ash has offered his bed many times. He’s always met with a scoff and a dismissive wave. “I’d rather not get punched in the face in my sleep, thanks.”
Once, Ash points out that Goh has slept beside him with no incident plenty of times, and Gary’s face turns a subtle shade of pink. He turns away and mutters, “Yeah, well, no accounting for sheer luck.” It is the end of the conversation; Ash keeps it in his head for a long time after the fact, wishing he could figure out how to make Gary that flustered again.
So he does think it’s a bit unfair when he wakes up one night to find the couch empty. Initially, he is concerned, but a quick look at the coffee table assures him Gary has left most of his things, Poké Balls included, behind, so he likely is still in the apartment somewhere. This suspicion is confirmed when he eases open Goh’s door to find them both curled up on the bed, sound asleep.
He only just manages to clamp down on the impulse to wake them up and demand they let him join long enough to take a photo. Gary’s arm is slung loosely over Goh’s chest, while Goh’s leg is crossed over Gary’s at the ankle. They are close enough together that their heads are touching.
With that out of the way, he feels little remorse for disturbing the peace. They begin to stir when he lifts their limbs out of his way, but don’t fully register what’s happening until Ash has flopped down in the narrow space between them.
“What the…?” Gary cranes his neck, squinting through the shadows at him. “Ash? What are you doing?”
Goh’s a bit quicker to react. His glare is surprisingly easy to make out in the pitch dark. “It’s the middle of the night!”
“Yeah, well.” Ash puts his head against the pillows, intent on relaxing even as they both radiate irritation. “I had that feeling like I was missing out on somethin’, that’s all.”
He feels the moment the situation registers for them both. Their muscles go tense, and then Goh shoots upright.
“It was an accident,” he says quickly. “We didn’t mean to fall asleep. We were just…”
It’s too dark to see it, but Ash has a feeling his cheeks have grown rather red.
“Just…?”
“Making out,” Gary says. “Or whatever else you’re thinking. That.”
“No!” Goh shrieks. “Gross. Shut up, Gary. He was reading a book to me.”
Gary makes a small, pathetic noise from Ash’s other side. Inexplicably, it reminds Ash of the day he mentioned sharing a bed with Goh.
Ash pushes himself upright too, frowning. “Okay, well…either way, I mean—I’m just saying, I like your mouth too, Gary, whatever it’s doing, so…”
“Way to get to the point, Ashy,” Gary mutters.
“Ash, ew. You have the wrong idea.”
“Nah, I don’t.” He grabs a hold of Goh’s arm and tugs at it, until they both fall back down to Gary’s level. Even then, he doesn’t let go, and Goh doesn’t ask him to. “Sure, I’m not always the smartest, but I’m not blind, y’know.” He stops, briefly overtaken by a yawn, then glances over at Gary. “If I’m really wrong, you can tell me, but…”
Gary turns his head slightly, so their eyes meet through the dark.
“You’re not wrong,” he says quietly. “But you did choose a really stupid time to bring it up.”
Ash hears Goh swallow, the way he does sometimes when he gets nervous. But he still doesn’t push Ash away.
“Point taken,” Ash concedes. “So let’s just sleep now and talk about it in the morning.”
Goh melts into him, the tension finally draining out of his muscles again. “Okay. Yeah. Morning it is.”
A sigh from the other side, and then Gary’s head falls back against the pillow. “You’d better not punch me in my sleep.”
Ash brings his free hand down to find Gary’s, intertwining their fingers, and raises their joined hands up to rest against his own chest. He closes his eyes, lips turning up in a small smile. “Wouldn’t dream of it,” he says.

Note
you're a swiftie, right? pokeani characters as taylor swift lyrics? or ships?
Ok, I went with ships (though I could write an essay on why Drew's song would be The Archer and why Misty’s would be Who I’ve Always Been), and I tried to include all the ones I could think of, whether they're my thing or not! Little bit for everyone, you know?If anyone wants my reasoning and analysis of WHY I chose songs or lyrics PLEASE ENABLE ME. I am but a deer tick in the long grass waiting for an unsuspecting victim to brush past and enable autism mode for me. This is no order at all, just random tbh. I chose the most relevant lyrics. Sometimes that’s three lines. Sometimes it’s half the song. The more or less lyrics does not equate to my opinion on the ship, some just felt more fitting than others. I know I’m missing stuff, lmk if you want me to do one that isn’t here. Anyways, let's get into it! This is hella long by the way.
Appealshipping (Dawn x Zoey)- Seven (sapphic bop idgaf argue with the wall)
“Sweet tea in the summer, cross your heart, won’t tell no other”
“Your braids like a pattern, love you to the moon and to saturn
Passed down like folk songs, the love lasts so long”
Gary x Tracey (Oakshipping? Is that it?)- Welcome Distraction (unreleased, on youtube)
Love’s a little messy and you are too, right now I’m scared of the both of you
-skipped lyrics-
You’re the last thing I needed today
And I don’t know where I lost control and couldn’t take it any longer,
It must have been somewhere between your smile and the way you say my name
And I can’t win, so I give in, the more I fight it just gets stronger
You’re an inconvenient kind of satisfaction, a welcome distraction
Gone and spilled my coffee trying to get to the phone, cause it might be you, you just never know
Can’t talk to my friends without you coming up, it’s even kinda cute the way you cuss
I wrote your name down a hundred thousand times, ‘cause it looks so good right next to mine
You’re the last thing I needed tonight
Palletshipping (Ash x Gary)- A few very good options but I settled on Paper Rings (almost chose King of my Heart though) (also almost chose Tim McGraw because of the lake imagery and lakes seem to be their thing, from what I’ve gathered from my mutuals)
The moon is high like your friends were the night that we first met
I went home and tried to stalk you on the internet
Now I’ve read all of the books beside your bed
The wine is cold, like the shoulder that I gave you in the street
Cat and Mouse for a month or two or three
Now I wake up in the night and watch you breathe
Kiss me once because you know I’ve had a long night
Kiss me twice because it’s gonna be alright
Three times, cause I’ve waited my whole life
I like shiny things but I’d marry you with paper rings
Darlin’, you’re the one I want
And I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this
You’re the one I want in paper rings, in picture frames, in all my dreams, you’re the one I want
Satogou (Ash x Goh)- It’s Nice to Have a Friend
School bell rings, walk me home
Sidewalk chalk covered in snow
Lost my gloves, you give me one
‘Wanna hang out?’ ‘Yeah, sounds like fun’
Video games, you pass me a note, sleeping in tents, it’s nice to have a friend
Light pink sky, up on the roof
Sun sinks down, no curfew
Twenty questions, we tell the truth
You been stressed out lately? Yeah, me too
Something gave you the nerve to touch my hand, it’s nice to have a friend
Church bells ring, carry me home
Rice on the ground looks like snow
Call my bluff, call you babe
Have my back? Yeah, everyday
Feels like home, stay in bed the whole weekend-it’s nice to have a friend
Shigegou (Gary x Goh)- Cowboy Like Me
“You asked me to dance, but I said ‘dancing is a dangerous game’
Oh, I thought, this is gonna be one of those things
Now I know I’m never gonna love again
I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve
Takes one to know one- you’re a cowboy like me
-skipped lines-
Now you hang from my lips like the gardens of babylon
With your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con
Shigesatogou (Ash x Gary x Goh)- Jump Then Fall
I like the way you sound in the morning, we’re on the phone and without a warning I realize your laugh is the best sound I have ever heard
I like the way I can’t keep my focus, I watch you talk, you didn’t notice
I hear the words, but all I can think is ‘we should be together’
Every time you smile, I smile and everytime you shine, I’ll shine for you
Woah, i’m feeling you, baby
Don’t be afraid to jump then fall, jump then fall into me
Baby, I’m never gonna leave you Say that you wanna be with me, too
‘Cause I’mma stay through it all, so jump then fall
A rarepair/crackship for you all (I think two of you like it and follow me? I can vibe with it ngl)- Farawayshipping (May x Paul)- Ours
Elevator buttons and morning air
Stranger’s silence makes me want to take the stairs
If you were here, we’d laugh about their vacant stares
But right now, my time is theirs
Seems like there’s always someone who dissaproves
They’ll judge us like they know about me and you
And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do
The jury’s out, but my choice is you
So don’t you worry your pretty little mind, people throw rocks at things that shine and life makes love look hard
The stakes are high The water’s rough
But this love is ours
You never know what people have up their sleeves
Ghosts from your past gonna jump out at me?
-skipped lines-
And it’s not theirs to speculate if it’s wrong, and
Your hands are tough, but they are where mine belong
-skipped lines-
I love the gap between your teeth, and I love the riddles that you speak
And any snide remarks from my father about your tattoos will be ignored (you know Norman would HATE Paul)
Because my heart is yours
Pumpkinspiceshipping (Caroline x Delia)- Cornelia Street (specifically the Paris live acoustic though. Trust me.) (considered her cover of September by Earth, Wind, and Fire but that’s technically not a Taylor Swift song. Also people seem to hate that cover which makes me sad.)
We were in the backseat, drunk on something stronger than the drinks at the bar
‘I rent a place on Cornelia Street’, I say casually in the car
We were a fresh page on the desk, filling in the blanks as we go
As if the streetlights pointed in an arrowhead, leading us home
I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends
I’d never walk Cornelia Street again
That’s the kind of heartbreak time could never mend
I’d never walk Cornelia Street again
And baby, I get mystified by how this city screams your name
And baby, I’m so terrified of if you ever walk away
I’d never walk Cornelia Street again
Windows flung right open, Autumn air, jacket ‘round my shoulders is yours
We bless the rains on Cornelia Street, memorize the creaks in the floors
-skipped lines-
You hold my hand on the street, walk me back to that apartment-years ago, we were just inside
Barefoot in the kitchen, sacred new beginnings that became my religion
Pokeshipping (Ash x Misty)- Invisible String
“Time, curious time, gives me the blues and then purple-pink skies
Were there clues I didn’t see?
And isn’t it just so pretty to think all along there was some invisible string tying you to me?”
Egoshipping (Misty x Gary)- Gorgeous
“You should take it as a compliment that I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk
You should think about the consequence of your magnetic field being a little too strong
-skipped lines-
You’re so cool, it makes me hate you so much
-skipped lines-
And I’m so furious at you for making me feel this way, but what can I say? You’re gorgeous
You should take it as a compliment that I’m talking to everyone here but you
You should think about the consequence of you touching my hand in the darkened room
If you got a girlfriend, I’m jealous of her
But if you’re single, that’s honestly worse”
Ikarishipping (Paul x Dawn) (angsty. Sorry Ikarishippers who like fluff, but I don’t think there’s a ton of you here tbh so like we’re good) (I’m hella picky about Ikarishipping in general but this song fits imo. For a ship I don’t care for I have hella opinions on it apparently)
Are you really gonna talk about timing in times like these?
Let all your damage damage me? Carry your baggage up my street?
Make me your future history? It’s time
We’ve come a long way, open the blinds, let me see your face
You wouldn’t be the first renegade to need somebody
Is it insensitive for me to say, ‘get your shit together so I can love you’?
Is it really your anxiety that stops you from giving me everything, or do you just not want to?
I tapped on your window on your darkest night, the shape of you was jagged and weak
There was nowhere for me to stay, but I stayed anyway
You fire off missiles ‘cause you hate yourself, but do you know you’re demolishing me?
But then you squeeze my hand as I’m about to leave
-
And if I would have known how sharp the pieces were you’d crumbled into, I might have let them lay
Contestshipping- was stuck between like 15 songs because y’all know how I am about these two but I eventually landed on Treacherous. Almost chose Mine or Sparks Fly though. Still waiting for ethically sourced Speak Now.
Put your lips close to mine, as long as they don’t touch
Out of focus, eye to eye- until the gravity’s too much
And I’ll do anything you say if you say it with your hands- and I’d be smart to walk away, but you’re quicksand
This slope is treacherous
This path is reckless
This slope is treacherous-and I like it
I can’t decide if it’s a choice, getting swept away
I hear the sound of my own voice, asking you to stay
And all we are is skin and bone, trained to get along
Forever going with the flow, but you’re friction
-chorus-
Two headlights shine through the sleepless nights and I will get you alone-your name has echoed through my mind and I just think you should know that nothing safe is worth the drive
This hope is treacherous
This daydream is dangerous
This hope is treacherous
I like it
Ok ash/pokegirl ships are all down here since honestly except for my one pokeshipper friend I think most of you guys don’t care for these tbh highkey same but I can still appreciate and assign them a vibe. I don’t like cool ranch doritos but I’ll still eat them, you know?
Advanceshipping- I’d Lie (unreleased, which is a crime, it’s on youtube and better be on debut taylor’s version)
I don’t think that passenger seat has ever looked this good to me
He tells me about his night, and I count the colors in his eyes
He’ll never fall in love, he swears as he runs his fingers through his hair
I’m laughin’ cause I hope he’s wrong
And I don’t think it ever crossed his mind, he tells a joke, I fake a smile
-skipped-
He stands there then walks away, my god, if I could only say ‘I’m holding every breath for you’
Pearlshipping- Tim McGraw. Idk I don’t really get pearlshipping that much but I think the vibes are there with this song?????
He said the way my blue eyes shined put those georgia stars to shame that night
I said, ‘that’s a lie’
Just a boy in a chevy truck that had a tendency of getting stuck on backroads at night
And I was right there beside him, all summer long
Negaishipping- ‘Til Brad Pitt Comes Along (unreleased but I think it sums them up perfectly, even platonically)
Do you remember the day I leaned up against your car? And it started rolling down the street
You screamed and ran after it and tried to open the door and it ran over your foot and I was too busy laughing on the ground to see it
-skipped-
Do you remember the time we watched Carrie and you said it reminded you of me?
And I threw the remote at you and you said, ‘my point exactly’
-skipped-
You call me lucky ‘cause I lose everything, but I swear I’d be careful with it if you gave me a ring
Amourshipping, which. no comment-Your Anything
I could be your favorite blue jeans with the holes in the knees in the middle of the top drawer
I could be a little beauty queen, just a little out of reach, or the girl living next door
I’ll be your angel giving up her wings, if that’s what you need, I’ll give anything to be your anything

Why Goh Might Stick Around
So I’ve stated before that I believe that Chloe and Goh are going into the next series as important characters. I say “important characters” to sort of leave the option open of them not travelling with Ash(since it's possible they won't be) but still being prominent, idk if that’ll happen but it’s a possibility. Think the first few episodes of XY, how Serena was on her on journey while Ash and co were on a separate one but more like how sometimes characters get episodes just they'd be in different places and maybe have subplots in each other's episodes but like they'd being doing there own thing. With occasional episodes of them running into each other sometimes. But that’s not the point of this post. Onward to Goh and why I think it's possible for him to stay in the show longer.
Goh wants to go on an adventure. Like how Ash has in several different regions. That’s not unheard of from Ash’s travel companions, them going off on a separate journey. However, there’s not a lot of reason for Goh to pick one of the other eight regions Ash has already explored because Goh has already been to them so many times. If he wants to do an Ash style journey, he’s gonna need to start fresh in a new region, new to him I mean. And as I just said he’s been to all 8 regions, so he’ll need a new one. And isn’t there a brand new region that actively encourages adventure? {psst, it’s Paldea.}
But that’s not all.
The other night, I was telling KK about the episode “Gotta Catch Ya Later”, having looked into it more so I could better refer to it in my Ash & Chloe Friendship post. In the episode, while unsure about where to go next Ash sees Ho-Oh, who was flying towards Hoenn, sparking, or maybe kickstarting, Ash’s adventure to Hoenn. Sorta like a guide of sorts.
Shortly after, in our conversation which side railed to Journeys, KK went “Wait how did I not notice before? Ho-Oh and Lugia are the Gold and Silver legendaries.” Then she went on to basically say that Ho-Oh is to Ash as Lugia is to Goh. Like Ash with Ho-Oh, Goh saw Lugia at the beginning of his journey as a trainer, his trainer debut, sure he hadn’t yet had a partner Pokemon but that was still the start of him being a Pokemon trainer, and while we don’t know how this current battle is going to end, or what it will mean for Goh it, we do know here it has appeared as he’s trying to decide on going on a journey.
I genuinely don’t know if any other companions had seen a Legendary at the start of their journey, and as a (possible) guide for another journey (Lugia is at the very least gonna help Goh smooth over how he’s feeling and possibly lead to them having a proper conversation, I believe,) but it feels very Main Character tm. And with Goh already being a co-protagonist, built to be a pair with Ash, and with the added detail of Lugia and Ho-Oh being a pair, it just feels like maybe Goh’s gonna continue being a main character.
Not only that but Goh seems like a character with lots more potential, I know all characters stories continue after the leave but don’t they typically have a fairly satisfying conclusion? I’m not one to judge a story’s conclusion before it’s actually confirmed concluded and I have seen it all, so I can’t say much for any of the companions’ conclusions. However, I’ve seen people say Goh and Chloe’s stories aren’t sastisfying, or something in that vein, and it doesn’t sound like a “Oh as always, the companions aren’t getting a very satisfying story end”. It sounds like Goh and Chloe aren't getting a very satisfying story end. Once again, I, personally, cannot fully form an opinion on that but might I suggest that maybe it’s not a satisfying end, because maybe it’s not the end? An end of an arc or section maybe but not the end of their stories as important characters.
Something that actually supports this idea that, at least, Goh's story isn't over is while he's learned many things over the course of the show he still hasn't quite learned to not mind gaining support from others, I posted about this yesterday, about Goh needing to be traveling with someone because of what the narrative has been setting up.
As a matter of fact, I think if they wanted to show that he's grown as a person in regards of being able to know that he can depend on people and they were writing him off, his news might've been, "I'm deciding to stay on as a chaser," or "Horace & I are going on a journey" or something that demonstrates he knows it's okay. Because while he's gotten better with receiving help, his wanting to go on an adventure alone, because it's Goh, and his reasoning of it being "too easy" if he goes with Ash instead of alone, shows that he has still not accepted that it's okay to have someone supporting & helping him.
Like if anything he accepts support/help when absolutely necessary or like on an event basis but he hasn't accepted that people can just support him day to day. And it's just like Goh, Project Mew didn't set up a team of five Chasers for nothing, they figured it'd be easier with five people. Nobody wants life to be hard so it's okay to have someone around to make it easier, that doesn't mean you won't grow as a person or stronger or whatever, you and whoever you're with should be supporting each other.
But of course he hasn't learned fully learned that, that kind of lesson is one of rewiring the brain, that mess takes time. He's got it drilled in his head that he needs to be self sufficient, okay on his own, and that he doesn't need anyone else or to bother anyone else. So if they used two series to teach that to him, it really wouldn't be strange.
In conclusion, travelling with Ash or not(though these signs are probably pointing towards travelling with him lol), I don’t think Goh is leaving the show. I think it’s very likely for him to still be an important character going forth into the next generation. He’s still got potential and lessons to learn, he wants an adventure--which Paldea is perfect for, and he’s sorta like Legendary bonded with Ash(for lack of better/concise/understandable wording).
But I guess we’ll know for sure when the next season starts huh?

FOOTNOTES
Oof, this bit. What the Akuma says here — まんまと殺られたな お前 | manmato yarareta na, omae — is quite literally "you've successfully and/or artfully gotten yourself killed", and Kanda laughs bitterly because he knows something the Akuma doesn't. It's excruciating on reread, wow. [ ♠ ]
He refers to a genderless "that person", which is common and unremarkable in Japanese but sounds awkward in English. Due to our foreknowledge of later plot developments, however, we can safely collapse the waveform to "she" this time, and I feel fairly sure it'll only make the eventual twist more effective, not less. [ ♠ ]
You would not believe how much time I spent trying to find a way to fully convey this throwaway joke in English without adding a ton of words, and I still haven't really managed. The original: 超大喜利4コマ, chou oogiri 4-koma.
Chou is just a straightforward superlative, "super", but oogiri is... well: "the last piece of the day's programme; the last act of a play; comic dialogue as the last item in vaudeville, music hall, etc.". It's a closing act that has nothing directly to do with any story that came before it, a digestif of sorts, and as far as I can tell there is no goddamn word in English that's a 1:1 match. It plays cheekily into the running "stage play" aesthetic theme of the manga, though, so I wanted to keep it theatrical in some way.
Of course, 4koma also has no direct translation into English, though we do also have four-panel comics (most notably, the comedy ones that might still run in physical newspapers, like Calvin & Hobbes, Peanuts, etc., not that anyone but my grandparents has actually bought one of those in years). In Japan, too, it's a format mostly used in the gag manga genre; quick, no-frills setup and punchline in a limited amount of space.
Between those, there was no way I was getting a really good translation into the same amount of space, so I panicked and alliterated. [ ♠ ]
