i don’t like calling myself an Alina apologist,
i don’t think Alina hasn’t done a single thing wrong in her life or i’m trying to excuse everything she’s done away because i completely headcannon from scratch the she had a horrible childhood
but no she needs to be needs to be hit in the face with a 2x4 of character development and because she deserves it, i just think the ability to change is there, she just has a lot to be held accountable for.
now Alvar on the other hand,
im completely and fully an Alvar apologist, he’s a victim and was used abused and thrown away,

To the person who asked why Keefe is complex, I thought I’d try to give my two cents on the matter.
Also it’s totally fine if you dislike Keefe! He’s just complex, is all. You can dislike him anyway, this is soley about why I think he is a complex character. Not an attempt to sway you to like him or anything!
He’s introduced pretty early as though he’s going to be a silly, funny, flirty side character, and a lot of that falls away as the series goes on. He’s always had avoidant defense mechanisms, which used to look like deflecting with humor and as his trauma worsens turns into a lot of literal running away. We learn in book one that he has really bad parents and it’s like oh, okay, so he has a hard childhood and covers for it with humor. Pretty classic way to round a character out, but it works. Sure. But he wasn’t too complex THEN.
I think the way finding out his mother was with the neverseen impacted him was far worse than the fandom gives it credit for. It was a huge turning point in his life. He breaks down more. He can’t keep up his defenses as much.
Did you hear that? He can’t keep up his defenses as much. Deflecting isn’t working.
And then, at the end of Neverseen, he literally runs away.
Direct correlation.
He goes to be a “double agent” and hopefully be able to help his friends from the inside. But really… he wants to do something useful without having to face his friends. He’s avoiding. He’s running.
The reveal of his mother being with the neverseen was also more than figuring out his parent was a villain, which is bad enough. He also learned that the parent who had always been slightly better, slightly kinder, slightly more caring was actually the evil one. It isn’t talked about nearly enough the amount of trust issues he must have gotten from that. It also adds an extra layer to every time he’s betrayed a friend’s trust or told a lie. He doesn’t think it’s right, but a part of him is still processing what happened with his mother.
He searches through his memories like crazy. He wondered how he, an empath, managed to miss that his mother was evil. He questions everything the knows. How does he know if someone is lying? He doesn’t. He doesn’t know if someone is lying. He lies. He lies and lies and lies.
He holds on to every scrap of paper with every detail he’s ever remembered about his childhood and his mother and questions everything. This is actually a huge part of what makes his character complex, since that’s the question—the way he clings to every. Single. Detail. Because he’s NOT just avoidant, he’s also unable to let go, and somehow he is absolutely both at the same time.
Constantly running from the painful things he clutches close to his chest.
That sentence alone might actually explain what makes him complex, but I’m going to go further.
I think his execution of research and ideas and reckless plans without telling his friends, betraying them and lying to them, is both a product of the fact that he’s never considered himself someone who gets listened to seriously and the fact that he’s still processing his mother’s betrayal. (Let’s not gloss over that. He’s still grieving from that.)
“Are you afraid of me, Foster?” It isn’t a question. It’s a realization. In this moment he realizes what he’s really done. He has flashbacks to the mountain, to finding out about his mother, and he wonders if too much of her is in his blood. Of course he rushes to explain his double agent scheme, but he’s in pretty deep and this isn’t going to be his last betrayal. The scene where he steals the alluveterre crystal and Alvar might be his worst betrayal. But there’s so much behind it.
So many complexities.
So many underlying thoughts, some of which I don’t think he’s even aware of.
He’s trying and he knows he’s wrong but he does it anyway and focuses on everything right about the wrong.
Being literally, physically changed by his mother so that he has new abilities that could actually hurt people is another huge turning point. Now it isn’t, “are you afraid of me, Foster?” It’s “you should be afraid of me, Foster.” All pretense of laughter and humor and jokes is gone. The Leo Valdez side has evaporated.
If he was worried that too much of his mother was in his blood before, well, he’s definitely worried about it now. Because she changed him and he hates it and he’s afraid of himself.
He’s afraid of himself and he’s afraid for his friends (because even amongst all of this he cares, he loves his friends and he specifically loves Sophie) and his deflection is once again entirely gone and he does the thing we should have all seen coming.
He runs away.
But I think unraveled will show us that once again, even in running away, he can’t let go of the things he wants to leave behind. They stick to him and he takes them everywhere he goes.
In unlocked he writes in his journal that Sophie deserves someone like Fitz. He hates himself for having betrayed her and having made her lose faith in the good of the world. He loves her enough that even when he wants her to be with him, when he believes she’ll be happier with his friend, he wants that for her.
(He can hardly believe it when Sophie chooses him. “I don’t want to mess this up,” he says. “Please don’t let me mess this up.” He knows he’s a mess. He’s worried he’s too much of a mess to preserve the one thing he’s always wanted.)
And even in the end of Stellarlune, he takes the knife from Sophie to attack his mother, without telling her. In that moment I wonder if he was even thinking about his own stupid bad patterns, or if he was so determined to end things with his mother that he didn’t even consider that in some small way, he was sort of doing just the sort of thing he swore to himself he’d stop doing.
So what makes Keefe a complex character?
The way he cares so impossibly deeply for his friends while also doing things he knows will hurt them and feeling in his mind like maybe he can’t even stop it, maybe he’s just a mess that can’t be fixed and the best thing he can do for his friends is never see them again—
The way he runs, avoids, escapes, NEVER confronts his issues, but also is never able to leave them behind, dragging them with him wherever he runs, every single detail running through his head—
The way he’ll never say it out loud, but some part of him is worried he’s too much like his mother, wishing she’d get her hands off his life and stop changing him before he can’t deny it anymore—
The way his bad habits mirror each other even as he changes and develops as a character—
It’s not just his trauma and his coping mechanisms, or his feelings for Sophie and his friends. It’s the layers upon layers in his character, thick as shadowflux and so buried that even Keefe doesn’t know about some of them. (Even I can’t articulate them all. I’m able to really get into a state of feeling his character but these are the only things I’m able to get into words.)
This is about as much of his complexities as I can explain using actual words in the English language and not just transferring emotions. To the anon who was wondering how he’s complex, I hope this helps!

Sophie is Fitz's "lacy"
Think about it! As of late in the series Shannon brings to jarring light, in the cognate inquisition scene, the jealousy Fitz has of Sophie and how Fitz puts her on a pedestal. So, all at the same time, he views her as perfect, is jealous of her capabilities and has feelings for her. I can't help but hear that phenomenon when I listen to Lacy. The lyrics in Lacy are also just so juicy and fun to analyze.
Full lyrical analysis below the cut (it's a lot, but I love doing this sort of thing)
Lacy, oh lacy, skin like puff pastry.
Aren’t you the sweetest thing on this side of hell?
Dear angel lacy, eyes wide as Daisy’s,
Did I ever tell you that I’m not doing well?
(this is the longest paragraph, I promise)
The first lyrics here set up the whole song by characterizing the subject of the song. The emphasis on calling lacy “sweet” and an angel is the narrator criticizing this person for the fact that they can never seem to be wrong, and that they just seem like an angel who always has the best intentions. Of course, these lyrics are also just literally calling the person sweet and caring in nature (most of this song has lyrics that have double meanings, which is why this song fits Fitz’s feelings about Sophie as of the latest book so well imo). Sophie is a pretty sweet girl, but most importantly she calls all the shots and doesn’t get as much flack for what she does, whether it be a good call or not. For example, Sophie was BARELY held accountable for when she let Alvar go in Legacy (not hating on our favorite Sophie, but that was a horrible choice). In Marella’s short story, Marella is faced with a hard choice and so she thinks of what Sophie would do in her place. For Fitz, it seems to him that Sophie can just do whatever she wants and not get any criticism for what she does. Where HE wants to be perfect and always do what is right, he seems to only do what is wrong, and compared to how Sophie can only seem to do what is right it is probably frustrating for Fitz. Of course, none of this is Sophie’s fault. Fitz needs to learn find peace in himself and not to make Sophie something other than mortal (I would say human but they’re not actually human are they?). Fitz cannot do this at the moment, however, because he’s “not doing well” as is said by the song. He still never fully has gotten to process his feelings about Alvar, as for the ENTIRETY of Flashback he literally had to bottle all his emotions or he would die. That’s lowkey traumatizing.
Fitz is just not doing his best, simply put.
Ooh, I care, I care, I care.
Like perfume that you wear, I linger all the time,
Watching, hidden in plain sight.
The emphasis on “I care” reveals that the narrator is pained by the degree to which they care. They don’t want to care as much as they do, but still they’re always watching and needing to know more about the “lacy” that they loathe. Fitz doesn’t want to let his jealousy affect his friendship and his feelings for Sophie as much as they do.
Ooh, I try, I try I try,
But it takes over my life, I see you everywhere,
the sweetest torture one could bear.
Fitz really does try. He’s always saying he’s working on himself, and he does. Yet, the progress isn’t instantaneous, and the rate at which Sophie’s success conflicts with his own is greater than the rate at which Fitz tries to manage his feelings. Fitz’s entire life is supposed to be about being the greatest and the most “perfect” elf there is, but when Sophie comes in and starts to fill in all those standards, it can’t help but conflict with Fitz’s pursuits in an ugly way. So the lyrics "it takes over my life" and "I see you everywhere" are pretty fitting.
Yet, Fitz wants her. He wants to spend his life with her. Fitz admires her and can’t help but develop feelings for this pretty girl who was a breath of fresh air from his life of perfection (though distorted by the warped view elves have of romance because of the matchmaking system). So, torture though it is for Fitz to watch Sophie take his place as the greatest, it is sweetened by the fact that he’s watching someone he admires (matching the lyrics "the sweetest torture one could bear).
Smart, sexy lacy, I’m loosin’ it lately
I feel your compliments like
bullets on skin
Coming from someone above you, compliments can feel untrue, and when you’re jealous of that person who is above you, those compliments can just feel painful.
Before Legacy, Fitz and Sophie were on the same page, and their relationship with each other was great, too great. Fitz also seemed be more useful in past books in the series, but as of late he hasn’t been very useful (as Rayni joked about in the beginning of Stellarlune. It was funny but also I felt bad for Fitz).
Sophie starts to ghost Fitz during Legacy. Then when Fitz tries to find Alvar by searching through Cassius’s mind (bold, Fitz), Fitz finds out Cassius was playing him the whole time! Cassius was never really going to tell Fitz where Alvar was, but Cassius had no problem letting Sophie know. Sophie was just better than Fitz in that she could search Cassius’s mind and that she found Alvar. In a single day, Sophie did both of Fitz’s projects for him. Then Sophie reveals in book 10 that actually she has feelings for Keefe, so even romantically he isn’t good enough. Ouch. As of late, Fitz is loosing control of his perfect facade and of his ability to control his life, and so in turn he spirals inside and looses control of all the little things he used to be able to control about himself.
Dazzling, starlet, Bardot reincarnate,
Well aren’t you the greatest thing to ever exist?
While Sophie isn’t aspiring to be an actor, she is aspiring to be a “star” in the sense that she’s the symbol of change and she’s aspiring to be something great (referring to the lyric “starlet”). From the moment she entered the lost cities, Fitz's pride in life, everything he was made to be and told he had to become, starts to be fulfilled by this talented girl named Sophie. She begins to overshadow Fitz in a lot of ways during the series, like how she ends up in the nobility (Fitz's dream job) or ends up finding Alvar (something Fitz has been trying to do for months and months). So the judge-y tone in which Olivia sings “well aren’t you the greatest thing to ever exist?” are a pretty great way to represent the contempt Fitz likely seems to feel.
Ooh, I care, I care, I care
Like ribbons in your hair, my stomach's all in knots
You got the one thing that I want
The simile of “like ribbons in your hair, my stomach’s all in knots” describes a feeling emotional turbulence. Which, in relation to Fitz, is fitting since he likely feels strongly about his current relationship with Sophie. The beginning scene of Unlocked actually details it. When Keefe could feel Fitz’s emotions, Keefe said he felt, “Sadness. Nervousness. Regret. Loneliness. Plus a hefty dash of anger” (idk what page number). He really does like Sophie, their friendship is priceless.
The lyrics “you got the one thing that I want” have a double meaning. On one hand, Sophie is the one he wants. She stole his heart (and now she broke it, oops). On the other hand, she has leadership, a position of power that makes Fitz secretly so jealous. All these conflicting feelings surely turn his stomach up in knots.
Ooh, I try, I try, I try
Try to rationalize, people are people
But it's like you're made of angel dust
These lyrics convey that the author struggles to view this person as a normal human being because they’ve idolized this person in their mind.
What is also frustrating is trying to be rational about someone when you’ve idolized them. In the cognate inquisition it was revealed that Fitz viewed Sophie as this strong, fearless and perfect leader. Now that it's become a problem, he has to try to see her as a normal elf, full of flaws (just like everyone), but it's hard for him to let go of the expectation of perfection he’s lived under his whole life.
I’ve often wondered if that’s why he views Sophie the way he does. Maybe he’s just been projecting his own need to be perfect onto her, and has been falling for the Sophie in his mind that would please his Vacker family instead of the real Sophie.
(bridge)
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
This doesn’t have to do with the lyrics above (it's just “oh” so not much to go off of), but the way Olivia sings this whole song is whispery and angelic, but strained, almost as if she’s fighting herself. She’s singing a song about an ugly flaw in a beautiful way, painfully unearthing the jealous side of admiring someone on top of condemning them for being seemingly perfect. Fitz himself is this image of perfection. He’s the epitome of elven culture. He’s a beautiful, ethereal elf, who has the most perfect life and does everything right. Yet, his flaws are such a stark contrast in comparison. The way Shannon has written him has a heavy emphasis on his struggle to work on his flaws. His whole character sort of symbolizes the elven world, in that it's so pretty and perfect on the outside but broken and hiding horrors inside. As the elven world crumbles throughout the series, so does he.
An angelic song about one’s own flaws is very fitting for him, I'd say.
Lacy, oh lacy,
it's like you’re out to get me.
You poison every little thing that I do.
This last, whispered bit of the song reveals the true loathing. For every lyric before the this point, any feelings of true loathing were braided into comments of adoration. Here, however, it is confessed that the author is scared of the way this “lacy” threatens them. This “lacy” really effects them, she poisons the authors life. The speaker feels targeted by lacy’s success, like it's a personal attack, and to the author it is personal. This “lacy” makes the author feel smaller in comparison. It's a deeper, hidden self loathing. The author is jealous of lacy’s perfection because the author loathes themselves for not being perfect like lacy is. So everything the author does seems to be disgustingly unworthy compared to what lacy does.
This is how Fitz feels about Sophie in a sense. Maybe not as strongly, but certainly Fitz’s subconscious desire and pressure to be perfect generates feelings inside him that parallel what Olivia Rodrigo describes here.
Sophie is Fitz’s “lacy”.
Lacy, oh lacy,
I just loathe you lately,
And i despise my jealous eyes and how hard they fell for you.
Yeah, I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you.
Fitz never used to feel this way about Sophie, at least not to the degree that he feels now. As things have shaken out, he’s been loathing her.
This is something that likely frustrates him, because he likes Sophie. She’s his best friend besides Keefe (debatable). Nobody wants to be obsessively jealous over someone they love. Yet, this obsession with Sophie, the reasons that he is jealous of her, are also why he started to fall in love with her, and pretty hard. This is why the lyric “I despise my jealous eyes and how hard they fell for you” goes so hard (excuse my un-academic language). His mind is poisoned by the need for perfection that growing up as basically elven royalty, as a Vacker, conditioned him to. He has a spoiled mindset, he’s used to getting what he wants, and for things to go his way (relating to the lyrics "my rotten mind”). Maybe he just wants to get Sophie out of his head, maybe he just wants to stop feeling for her the way he does.
Maybe he just wants Sophie to stop being the thorn in his heart that she has likely, unfortunately, become because of his "rotten mind".
(none of this analysis is Sophie or Fitz hate. We love Sophie in the household, and we also love Fitz in this household)

HYBRID AU PART 2
Tumblr media
MARRAV
Marrav/Other members of the Vermillion ducal family
In this au they are not the imperial family, but are members of the Vermillion grand duchy which has two branches.
Valero is branch is for the members of Duke Nicolas family and Valryon is for the members of Marrav's family m
They are lions. African lions to be exact. To be even more detailed their super Lions ( super Lions are a small group of lions that are stronger and more mean and buff than the average lion.
Marrav is tall. Standing at 6'11. Has a muscular somewhat lean body. He's naturally athletic and doesn't need to do a lot to exercise because of his good genes.
His formerly sharp silver eyes now have an even more piercing look in them making both prey and predator hybrids alike freeze in their spots whenever they lock eyes with him.
Instead of his hair being all silky and flowy it somehow puffs a bit behind him like a lions mane, but it's still well taken care off. A pair of lion ears twitch every once in a while on his head and his long tail sways boredly behind him.
Dominant alpha
Always has a haughty smirk on his thin lip so can always see his sharp canines peaking out.
He's fucking Hot and he knows it.
He's got it all. The money, the looks, the genes, the power.
He's known through out the academy as the        ' Black beast '.
He got this nickname mostly because of his thick black hair, but his monsterous gives the name another meaning.
Like Leon he is a member of the student council, but he focuses more on the training regiment of students who want to dedicate their time to swordsman ship. ( He mostly recruits predator hybrids because he's fucking bias and thinks all prey species are weak ).
He doesn't know like restraining his strength when sparing with others far weaker than him.  Has broken limbs/ badly injured others because of this.
Instead of people being wary of him because of this, their like
" ✨UWU ✨ Big murder kitty is so hot💕 "
These insane people are members of his fanclub.
Oh yes.
He has a fanclub.
They call themselves ' the black kitty brigade '
He's embarrassed by them, but their praises always inflate his ego.
Every single student knows that he's trying to court Leon, including the freshmen.
His fans are torn between trying to get his attention or push him together with the blue haired lop bunny hybrid.
Members of his fan club are the main cause of M/N's torment. Their angry and disgusted that the sheep hybrid has the honour of being their murder kitty's future mate.
He's constantly butting heads with the other love intrests and his cousin.
An absolute prick. He's more of a hassle to handle than his Emperor self.
Also much more vocal about how he hates his engagement to M/N.
Sometimes does nice things for the sheep just so his fanclub have a reason to bully him, or he's the one verbally abusing/ berating him in the hallway in front of hundreds of other students.
An absolute jackass over all.
Tumblr media
ALVAR.
His family is still a major part of the holy temple and still places a major role in choosing the Pope candidate, but in this Au his older sister is the pope while he goes to the academy to study.
He's a tiger.
A Bengal tiger. ( Bengal tigers are still tigers, they just have white fur, that's why I used them for Alvar because they match his aesthetic )
Another very pretty big kitty.
And unlike a certain someone he's a very gentle predator hybrid.
He's a just bit taller than Marrav standing at 6'12, also has a muscular lean form as well. Pretty silky waist length milky white hair paired with milk white cat like eyes top it all off with small fuzzy striped ears and a gentle swaying striped tale
Dominant alpha.
Like Marrav had the money, looks and power but is more humble about it.
Is known as the ' Gentle guardian ' by the students.
Predator and prey alike usually flock to him because of his comforting aura and how willing he is to help people in need.
Very smart and it almost always the top of his year.
The goody two shoes religious boi of the academy.
He's the head of the schools religious sector and is known for being knowledgeable on the words of the holy text. Is also the leader of the school choir.
Has a very pretty voice, it's deep so he sings bass.
His voice alone has gotten some very weak willed omegas off during mandatory service.
Is also a member of the student council.
His role later s mostly to act as a guidance counselor of sorts for students in need or struggling and help to put them on the right path.
Also has a fan club.
His fan club member are call themselves the     ' Gentle snowflakes '.
They always knock heads with the black kitty brigade.
Like Marrav Alvar has a crush on a certain lop bunny and everyone knows.
His fan club members think he's the one who deserves the right to court the pretty omega since a gentle giant alpha would be perfect for a small prey omega.
They don't start fight because they don't want to soil the name of their giant soft kitty.
In this au since M/N doesn't have a 'demon' inside him Alvar actually gets along well with the sheep hybrid.
They both share similar tastes in books and he's the one M/N goes to to talk about how the bullying is taking a toll on him.
Sadly because of this relationship his own fanclub also have it out for the sheep and have tagged him as a ' ship wrecker '
Because he's so busy with a lot of things Alvar doesn't really have time to constantly check on the h/c fluffy omega make sure he's doing alright.
Overall a pretty meh person.
Tumblr media
BASIL
In this au he's not necessarily found starving by M/N on the streets, but his family is a poor barony who's indebted to M/N's family. Since he's an illegitimate child born from a prostitute his father took him in so they could send him off a servant as a way to pay of their debt. Despite this M/N still treated him like an equal instead of a servant and even managed to convince his parents to sponsor Basil's education in the academy.
Is more like a butler that's trained very well on self defense and is skilled with a sword.
Is a mixed breed.
His father is a red fox while his mother was a local dog breed that he isn't aware of.
He got more of the fox genes so you can't tell he's mixed at all.
Has a lean body with a bit of muscle, stands at 6'0 pretty pink shoulder length hair that's tied in a ponytail. Pink furred fox ears and a soft fluffy fox tail that wags like a dog's tail when he's happy. Has a pretty face too.
Recessive alpha.
Isn't part of the school council, but is very popular among the student body.
Is considered a prodigy with the sword by students and teachers alike and has a lot of potential that can be unlocked.
He's received a lot of attention that his ego is almost as big as Marrav's.
Even though he's meant to be serving M/N he actively tries to avoid the sheep hybrid so his reputation doesn't get tarnished.
Even if the omega does manage to get a hold of him he likes to pretend he doesn't know him or give him the cold shoulder so it looks to others that he's annoyed by him.
Turns a blind eye to the bullying as well.
Doesn't have a fan club but the popularity he's gathered for himself make it look like he'll get one soon.
People know he's got a thing for Leon.
His normally lax tail starts wagging at the sight of the bunny.
People think it's cute that the normally stone faced fox becomes a cute kit at the sight of the pretty blue haired omega.
He's a shitty person that only cares about himself.
Tumblr media
SHIVA
Mommy Shiva in the house! Nothing really changes other than she's not the empress, but one of her older siblings is rulling in her place.
Snake hybrid or for better words a Naga.
Like M/N who has more animal traits ( like the fluffy wool growing around his wrist to his hooved feet and fluffy wool legs ) Shiva is also like this with the lower part of her body being a snake tail decorated with gold and silver scales, these same scales are scattered on her arms , shouldersand the side of her face. Her already teal reptilian eyes have an even more animalistic shine behind them.
Drop dead handsome/ gorgeous.
If she's ' standing ' upright she's a little over 10 feet, but that draws attention towards her ( even though she likes how both students and teachers are intimidated by her )  so she tends to slouch a bit and let more of her tail slither around.
She's still 8'1 when she does this.
Long silky caramel hair, her face and body is an absolute work of art. Hot and she owns it.
People are in awe of her looks and also terrified of her beauty.
Dominant alpha.
Other than her height and intimidating looks another thing the student body fear about her is her venom.
Oh I forget to mention.
Shiva's breed of snake is the african boomslang.
Poisonous little fuckers.
Though she hides her fangs well and has never actually threatened anyone with it.
Well except Marrav, but she doesn't see him as a person anyways so that doesn't count.
She's not a student since she's older, but at the same time she doesn't really teach. She's part of the school board as a foreign education councillor representing Pentigria.
She watches over the students from her Empire to avoid any bad things toward her people.
Keeps to her self most of the time and is generally a mystery to the students.
Her and M/N relationship is one of mutual acquaintances.
They both find peace in each other's company and can be found talking together in the school cafe about trivial things.
She originally wanted to only get to know him just to spite Marrav but now she genuinely enjoys his company.
No one dares to speak ill of the sheep hybrid in her presence.
A student did once and nobody has seen them till now.
Tumblr media
LOUIS
in this au he's still Alvar's illegitimate younger brother.
If you thought he had it bad in the original timeline well you thought wrong.
Cause it gets worse.
He's taken nothing from the Leoht family blood line. No milky white hair and eyes or earth dark skin.
Blond hair, green eyes and pale as a ghost.
As if that isn't enough he's not even a tiger hybrid.
I swear he's not even any thing in the cat species.
He's a horse.
A freaking horse.
He's breed of horse is a ' Thoroughbred '.
Recessive alpha.
One can only imagine the black lash and bullying he's experienced through out his life for this.
He's referred to as ' the curse '. People say that because they believe they believe the gods cursed him in the womb for being an illegitimate child , that's why he looks nothing like the rest of the family.
People originally thought his mother was playing tricks by saying that he even had Leoht blood.
Magic proved that she was in fact telling the truth.
Is treated like an outcast by his peers who constantly remind him that he's a mistake.
He can be found huddled on his own in one of the schools abandoned green house all by himself.
Unlike his og self care who hides behind a facade by being vain, rude and condescending, this Louis is actually really sweet and nice.
He and M/N are really close friends.
Hope you like this.

Cannon Things In KOTLC People Seem To Forget:
Also me just being mad that people don't talk about something I love lol
- Sophie is SHORT. She is SMALL. Which also means Dex was even SHORTER in the first book or two.
- Biana feels left out and forgotten by her parents because of Fitz.
- Alvar was a glass child. Invisible, which is ironic considering his ability, but yeah. He was pretty much outshined by his siblings. (Probably gay to tbh.)
- Fitz has daddy issues and he's spoiled. Have you seen how Alden is with him? If I had a dad like that I'd have tantrums too. (Lucky me I got a pedo dad and an mostly absent mom... ✨ yay✨)
- Keefe is a year ahead of people his age, he's younger then Fitz too but is still second place in class ranking.
- Marella's mom had a head injury. She has brain damage. People don't talk about that enough.
- Sophie has crippling anxiety and self worth issues because of her up bringing. She was literally bullied and if that wasn't enough she had to hear what EVERYONE really thought about her. She is literally so brave and has incredible patience. (Y'all need to hop off my home girls ass, she's literally so fucking interesting.)
- Bronte has curly hair... WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT THIS???
- Everyone has british accents but crisper. (I always forget this when I read unless it's Fitz talking 💀)
- Cognat's are like married couples. (PRENTICE AND TIERGAN MAN— GET TOGETHER ASDNJSJD)
- There are a lot of blond haired characters. Like... a lot.
- Stina is a tall girl with curly hair and is so pretty.
- Dex, Lex, Bex, Rex, and Kesler are RED. HEADS. GOD DAMNIT. STOP MAKING THEM BLOND.
- Edaline and Julien are sisters. I feel like we don't talk enough about that and we don't see enough of them being sisters.
- Most of the adults are manipulative, even the good ones. Edaline and Kesler are like the two safest options in the series.
- Ro cares a lot about Keefe (it's buried deep but it's there.)
Anyways. That's all. Oh and my name is Ollie ✨

KOTLC AND PJO
@valentinerose529 passed on the brain rot so now I'm dragging y'all down with me
Please buckle up your non-existent seatbelts and keep all hands, wings, feet, tails, and horns inside the vehicle. This is gonna be a long post
So
As I've previously stated else where I firmly stick my foot in the hill that the Aphrodite Cabin (10) has so much more under the surface of pink and glitter (not that there's anything wrong with pink and glitter)
Aphrodite is quite literally the Goddess of Love if you're a PJO fan and don't know Greek mythology or you're a fan but completely forgot.
She has an ever changing form to each individual as well as an ever changing personality (in the PJO universe) due to beauty standards and the culture of the place she's in.
Love is complicated and messy, it's not the same for everyone or every situation.
Thus why I put Keefe in good old 10. What a better place for an empath than the Aphrodite Cabin?
Now moving onto the ever messy Vackers
I love Fitz and Biana. I do............but I got an entire skeleton of bones to pick with Alden Vacker and of he can meet me outside the Denny's parking lot please-
While not actually smart Alden did manage to become emissary in KOTLC and Athena seems to like mildly smart guys who end up being very mid dad's. Girls got a type and I can only say hopes and prayers she gets better.
Athena is a strategist and occasionally thinks only in the form of a game (I will be using chess). Athena knows when it's time to get sharp and wet the blade and move people to where they have to go. She may be immortal but time is still against her so chop chop guys, we've got a magical meguiffin to snatch and bring back.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom, war strategy, handicraft.
What better godly parent to leave an ever lasting shadow on the eldest son Alvar. And the bitterness that stems from being out shined by perfect child Fitz who developed a far more impressive power than his older brother.
"but Biana feels so Aphrodite coded!" You cry and I hear you but Biana is a fighter at heart. She likes winning Quest Hunt and tackling the shit out of people in Tackle Bramble (she would love rugby). She's competitive and clever though it's not clear where on earth that gene came from, clearly not Alden.
And let's not forget it was Biana's idea to turn shirt ruffles into weapon hiding spots. Girls got strategy and style. Athena would be proud.
(plus the absolute sandal that would be blowing up the Camp's gossip train of Biana potentially being Aphrodite's daughter dispite having two Athena brothers would be scalding hot)
Onto everyone's favorite technopath
"oh Hephaestus, we all know" well you're wrong bucko
Worm, germs, plotted plant I named Timmy. What has Dex Dizznee built so far? Bombs, multiple bracelets for punching, many devices used just to heck the government's most top secret files, a panic button/tracker, more devices that hack into the government's files, a circuit that shall not be discussed.
These are all pretty crazy cool shit and Hephaestus would be damn proud to have Dex as his son.
But Dex isn't his son.
Dex's dad is the father of thieves, travelers, and roads. Hermes
"WHAT?" Yeah I know I know. But think about it. Dex is smart, he's so damn smart but he's tricky too. He knows the chemicals needed to dye an imp pink with glittery nails to match, he can whip up a batch up balding blam to get revenge, he can also be easily lost in the background of things.
So what a major disappointment it must be, to be waiting any day now for the sign of the hammer in a blazing forge and get a stupid winged sandal instead.
The Song Twins
Tam and Linh really gave me a run for my money because they're twins but Linh is an obvious Poseidon kid while Tam isn't and however powerful and weird the gods may be, two gods can't have kids with the same woman at the same time. It just ain't possible.
Linh's water powers are important to her character but so are Tam's. But Tam can still have spooky powers just not in the same flavor. Linh is the pretty side of Poseidon's rule over the seas. The water that heals and the funny animal shapes she makes. But the deeper into the ocean you get the darker it becomes. Tam's powers are the less pleasant things in life.
Now for everyone's second favorite arsonist (not Sophie)
Marella Redek has Pyrokenisis and you're saying "oh this one's eazy, Leo, come pick up your sibling" but you're wrong yet again my friend.
While Marella would probably be super frustrated with getting the tinker cabin over something that could help her mom (y'all remember how helping her mom was her main motivation?) at least with the STEM geeks she could hammer out some kind of magic mood ring to help her mom or make a bracelet with charmed gemstones capable of alerting her mom or herself when danger is near or just something
But no
Instead Marella is stuck in the only cabin that couldn't have been a worst match up for her. Hecate. (I know I previously said Ares but I changed my mind)
Marella, instead of having a knack for magic like almost every other child of Hecate instead got the flaming torch part of the deal. Literally. Marella can also see strings of magic and she doesn't like it one bit.
And finally Sophie (because this is getting too long)
Sophie was a tricky one since she has all these powers and it was nearly impossible to put her in a cabin that really fit with her
What finally got me to decide was actually her teleporting powers and inflicting. They have a sort of lightning and thunder styled description so who better than lord thunderbutt himself, Zeus.

Greetings mutual of mine, tis I, completing my duties as a mutual to randomly send you questions :D
If the main KotLC gang (Sophie, Keefe, Fitz, Dex, Biana, Maruca, Marella, Linh, Tam, Stina and Wylie) were benders what elements would they be and why? (Including the avatar)
and a hello to you, mademoiselle, my dear mutual <3
i've been waiting for this ask, so *crack knuckles*, let's do it!
Sophie: The Avatar. You saw it coming. A gazillion abilities in the ATLA world would mean all 4 elements, right?
Keefe: Fire. He's an Empath, and firebending stems from emotion, you know? See where I'm getting here? Eventually develops airbending after Gisela's crazy experiments.
Fitz and Biana: I'm not too sure. I want to also say fire for Fitz and water for Biana. Maybe Alden is a firebender and Della is a waterbender, and Alvar came out as a nonbender and faced scorn from other people, which caused his villain arc? (this is keeping me up tonight)
Dex: Nonbender that's great with inventing and gadgets. Think Sokka or Asami.
Maruca: Earthbender. Earthbenders can make shelters or safe places out of earth, and Maruca is a Psioniopath.
Marella: Fire. We saw this coming.
Linh: Water. No questions asked. She'd be an extremely talented one like Katara too. Knows how to bloodbend and accidentally did it to Tam when she was angry. Linh hasn't bloodbended since (oh, how i live for KotLC x ATLA lore)
Tam: I think he's an air bender but has his own unique powers and style. Maybe he can only bend specific substances, and that's where the shadows come in? Shadowvapor's described as airy in the book, so he can probably bend that.
Stina: Probably from some important noble earth kingdom family. Earthbending kinda matches her.
Wylie: Fire. Flashes, sparks, you get the idea.

things i want to get answers to in the remaining episodes of four leaf: a very comprehensive list that must be missing some things i just cant remember at the moment (also soilers for up until ep 139):
just in general evrything about the bells, and more especiall like how is lina giving lupe her bells (because that is 100% gonna happen i think) gonna affect them, for example if they'll get lina's bell as like their own, and if that bell being kinda broken is gonna be any problem
will that be a permanent change, is lupe gonna give the bell back to lina after they deal with the wolf
what's gonna happen to cricket if they really do deal with the wolf? or how will tehy come to some wsolution that doesnt harm anyone
CARLA!!! is she gonna be okay? that wound looks very nasty. i hope they'll be able to cure it somehow, and if not, then chopchop there goes a leg :/
talking about carla, is she gonna give er bells to someone like she mentioned in 138? that is only in case she wont be able to continue, but it loks very bad rn, so my question is, is it gonnna be mercy? or in general, who is it gonna be?
also about the bells, i really wanna know how many bells each witch has!! it''s just something i think would be interesting to analyse. (i looked through all the episodes where a witch has their bells out buut i still now only know for certain the number of bels like 7 witches have (before 137 and emma giving up her bells): Erica 1, Emma 2, Socks 2 (most likely, unless she got mor after the prison break, that's when she at least shows only 2), Alishba 3, Linda 3 (both of whose bells were shown during the prison break), Carla 20, Lina 21.
also also (i use that word so much), the names of the witches! we now know there are 17 witches in the red hoods (+lupe +lina so maybe 19 but oh well) and of those 17 we know the names of 12 (episode 133)
what i wanna know too is like which bell belongs to which witch? we've seen some, for example in the flashback of when they first appeared, and also in the festival of roses we see some, but like i wnna knowww (ye sit's very trivial but that's what makes it fun i think)
the mom. what happened with her in the 8 months that have passed since lupe was last in their original world? did she just continue on like normal, or did she actually regret some of the things she's done? will lupe go see her again?
the inevitable. the thing i've been waiting for for like 2 years. the KISS! alvar mentioned the witch loking very mad and the also saying he's the kinda guy to ask twice before a first kiss and what i think will happen is that he is gonna ask. like he's just the kinda guy. but the thing lupe (most likely) will be "mad" about is just that al didnt tell about it (even tho he was gonna tell you lupe, you just didnt want him to). or they arent mad, but just like very confused/fristrated and Al just interpreted it wrong? i dont know. we'll see (hopefully tomorrow in 140 but at the evry least in 141?? like i dont think it will take so long that it would be 142? (i am delusional). also looking at the future chapter thumbnails (not a fast pass reader), it looks like someone is using some kind of reddish/pinkish magic / teleporting right next to him)
okay this isnt a theory or anything, i just know lupe's dad is gonna be so smug learning about lupe and al's relationship when they do get into one like judging from ep 116 and the "crush" i jut know
Tumblr media
okay wow this is a long post but i need to get these out of my head and scream into the void and wait if it screams back
back to the bells, they'r gonna give everyone their own one back right? if they deal wit hthe wolf, there shouldnt be any need to hoard all the power, and i dont think it would be very fair to let 72 people just go on about life without really even knowing what's going no just because you wanna levitate. i know it's probably more complicated than that but yeah
also (fuck, this word again) what's gonna happen to the witchs' craving of gloom? is it gonna go away if there is no wolf (okay this is assuming that it's dealt with and they wont come to a peaceful comclusion but if that happens i just really hope cricket will be okay)
are other witches gonna wanna get rid of their bells and become human like emma?
i would like some more information about the different worlds, although i think it's unlikely tha will come up in the chapters themselves, but maybe as some bonus content somewhere?
okay so i already wrote about like if Lina's bell being broken is gonna have any effect on lupe, but will it affect Lina herself? i would assume not, but you never know
just in general, i cant wait to see how everything comes to a conclusion and how the ending is gonna be (even tho i would love for it to go on for longer). are we gonnna see another time skip?
man i just remembered there are alaso civilians in Garua at the moment too like the redhoods are gonna get the to safety right? maybe that will also help a little with the public's fear of the witches, the news that hey maybe they're not bad through and through (even tho that was never the case but most people still thought that so)
fuck this is long how many words even is this... 1005???? man that's like 2/3 of the essays we had to write in high school. yea it's easier to just put stuff from your mind into bullet points but this has taken me like maybe 45 minutes where as those essays took at least 5 hours. i bet i could make one from one of my interests in like 2 hours and i would be much better than any of those monstrocities i wrote
anyway back on track
actually those are the main ones i remember now, maybe i'll update this once more come to mind, but for now this is enough for today
Tumblr media
pictured above is me falling for this series
wait one more thing: is it stated anywhere how much the bells weigh? i would assume they're more like incorporeal so they wouldn't hve any mass, and i fell like should know this i've read this series 5 or 6 times. but if they do infact hve mass, do the witches have to actively levitate them or are they jsut funky like that

the idea that fitz is slowly being killed by the remains of the echoes in his heart (a fanfic this time)
yayyy death and angst :D
I'm not sure what else to say other than, i didn't mean for it to go this dark
that being said, TW for death, blood, a lil bit of gore, implications of s/h, suicide thoughts, etc. read at your own risk :)
friend @fitz-avery-vacker (tagging you ooc lol)
It didn't make sense.
Fitz had thought he was safe from the shadows buried in his chest. They were supposed to be long gone.
But Flori had never said that her songs would make the echoes go away. She had said it would just quiet them.
So maybe it did make sense that Fitz was curled up on the floor of his room, barely able to move, let alone breathe, because of the painful pressure pulsing in his chest.
Breathe, he told himself. In, out. In, out. You can't let anyone see you like this.
Once it had passed, and he could breathe again, Fitz stood up, using his desk chair for support. Something in his peripheral vision caught his eye and he whirled around to see…
Nothing. There was nothing there.
Hesitantly, Fitz sat down, picked up his pen, and forced himself to relax.
It was probably nothing.
-x-
About a week later, Fitz had forgotten about the entire thing. It was in the evening, and he was doing his usual weapon-sharpening for Grizel. His mind was elsewhere, and he wasn't really paying attention to—
"OW!"
He muttered a few words his parents would not be proud of as he quickly fumbled to grab a clean cloth to put pressure on the stinging cut on his palm. "Idiot," he mumbled to himself. "Fucking idiot."
He examined the wound. It wasn't too deep, so hopefully it wouldn't scar. Fitz wrapped the cloth around his hand and went to the bathroom to get a bandage. He was no physician, but he wasn't going to hail one for such a small, embarrassing mishap.
Fitz washed his hands and bandaged the cut. It was then that he noticed the stain on the cloth. Red from the blood, but also, oddly, a few splotches of black.
Was that normal?
What did that mean?
"Everything okay?" Biana asked, appearing in the doorway.
Fitz quickly folded the cloth. "Yeah, I just… I cut myself while sharpening a throwing star." He held up his bandaged hand.
"Oh. Shit."
"It's not too bad, Bi," he assured her.
"Then why do you look so scared?"
"Scared?" he repeated. He was a little bit scared, but he didn't think it'd be showing. "I'm not really scared. Maybe I'm just tired." He added a laugh to convince her. And it seemed to do the trick.
"Go to bed early, then," she told him. "Night!" She walked away, flickering as she did.
-x-
So maybe something was wrong.
Fitz could maybe admit that to himself. Maybe. Possibly. Perhaps.
Because the world was very dim. Like there was a shadow cast over it. His echo had affected him twice in the past week— both while he was alone— and now he stared at himself in the mirror, but it wasn't himself.
He had to be dreaming.
Those cobalt blue eyes did not belong to him.
Alvar's face was hollow and haunted, but it was there. And when Fitz turned his head, so did Alvar. When he stumbled back in disbelief, his brother did the same.
He hadn't realized how similar they looked. It chilled him to the bone.
Fitz slid to the ground and pressed a hand over his mouth to stifle a scream. He couldn't see the mirror anymore. He had to get out of this nightmare. The echoes were pressing on his pounding heart— harder than ever. He dug his fingernails into his arms, telling himself to wake up.
Wake up.
Wake
Up.
And he did.
The world turned bright again, and there he was, on the bathroom floor, breathing heavily.
"Fitz, hurry up! You're gonna make us late!"
He scrambled to his feet and looked in the mirror.
The eyes that met his were his own.
He pressed a hand to his chest.
What the hell just happened?
It. It didn't matter. He was going to be late.
He quickly combed his hair, brushed his teeth, and hurried with Biana to the Leapmaster.
Today was another day of pretending.
-x-
Throughout the day, Fitz kept double-checking his reflection to make sure it was still normal. There were dark bags under his eyes that he hadn't noticed before. Which was weird, since he'd actually been taking sedatives to sleep these days. He didn't tell anyone, though, so they wouldn't worry. He just snuck them into his room from the bathroom. To keep away the nightmares.
"Earth to Fitzy. Fitzroy. Fitz Vackerrrrr—"
Fitz's head snapped up. "What?"
Keefe poked him. "You feel weird."
Something about Keefe's touch set Fitz on edge. "No I don't," he snapped, a little too loudly. The study hall mentor shushed them.
"I'm the empath here," Keefe reminded him in a whisper.
"Well, maybe you're wrong."
"Jeez, why so moody?" Keefe poked him again.
Fitz shrugged him away and ignored him.
He had no idea why he was so angry at Keefe. He was being concerned as a good friend should be.
But Fitz's heart was beating so loud in his ears, he didn't hear what Keefe said next. He tried to focus on writing, but his handwriting came out shaky and not at all neat.
Maybe he wasn't okay.
-x-
Fitz kept seeing things. Not as terrifying as the first time he saw Alvar in the mirror, but he did keep seeing shadows and shapes of people who weren't really there.
He couldn't concentrate on reading, either. Every time he had to read more than a few paragraphs, shadows dimmed his vision and made the words look splotchy. It was seriously frustrating.
It was getting to the point where he'd considered telling Elwin or somebody about it, but there was always a voice that told him he shouldn't. It told him that admitting that he was struggling would make him weak and pathetic.
The voice told him he deserved all of this.
He deserved this pain.
And so he did all he could to deal with it. He did his best to act normal, even when everything around him turned dark and shadows poured out of every space.
Fitz was fairly certain his physical appearance was changing as well. His eyes looked darker and strangely empty, and he noticed his pupils were all dilated.
He also looked skinny, but maybe that was because he was losing his appetite. The very thought of eating made him want to throw up. His family didn't seem to notice him skipping meals. They must just assume he was eating later. Or maybe they didn't care. Maybe they wanted him dead.
His heart hurt. His lungs hurt. The veins in his hands looked dark as well, as if the shadows were in his blood.
Fitz was starting to find it hard to breathe, even when resting. Sitting up in bed sent him into a violent coughing fit. He covered his mouth with his hand, praying nobody could hear.
If they found out, he was selfish.
He couldn't tell anyone.
He looked at his hand once he'd stopped coughing. It was stained with splotches of black.
Fitz quickly washed his hands so nobody would know.
-x-
Fitz had run out of sedatives, and every night the shadows closed in closer and closer, swallowing him whole until there was nothing but darkness that was blacker than black.
The nightmares that always followed had him bolting upright in a cold sweat after only an hour, and the rest of the night was spent in fearful wake.
The voices.
They wouldn't stop.
Those twisted, evil, voices. They told Fitz to do horrible things.
Hurt people. Kill people.
Hurt himself.
He was so scared.
He was so tired of this.
He wanted to stab the wretched echo out of his chest.
He didn't care if he died.
He couldn't do this anymore.
-x-
Fitz was fairly certain it was a sunny day when the echo consumed him. It was hard to tell.
He dragged himself out of bed, shaking, stumbling.
He rolled up his sleeves and ran his hands down the dark black lines on his arms.
Normal cuts would be red and bloody at first, then scab over, then heal.
These never healed.
Fitz changed into his uniform and tried to walk normally down the hall into the bathroom. The voices wouldn't quiet. He caught a glimpse of Biana talking to Della down the stairs, and he wanted to strangle them.
These horrible, horrible thoughts.
He was a horrible, horrible person for thinking them.
Fitz closed himself in the bathroom and prepared to face his reflection again. It had been getting worse and worse.
He felt so sick.
He clapped a hand over his mouth, suddenly feeling the urge to vomit. He rushed over to the sink and spat out all sorts of horrible blackness and blood. Every second he thought it was over, and more came out, like he was coughing up his organs.
It hurt so much.
He wanted to die.
Fitz glanced up at the mirror, breathing heavily. The liquid blackness stained his mouth and his hands and the sink.
How was he supposed to hide this?
Fitz did his best to scrub it off of his skin and wash it down the drain. He couldn't tell how well he'd done. His vision was too dark. Fitz brushed his teeth to get the sickening metallic taste out of his mouth. It didn't work. The aftertaste still lingered. He felt so nauseous.
He couldn't take deep breaths. He could barely breathe.  But Alden didn't notice as he rushed off to a meeting. And Biana didn't notice Fitz losing a bit of himself every time they leaped. And his so-called friends didn't notice either.
He must be overreacting.
When lunchtime came, Fitz didn't bother getting in line and instead went to sit down at the table he always sat at. The table where he could pretend to be focusing on a book while everyone else talked around him.
But Fitz was shaking so much.
And he just. Collapsed.
The cafeteria dimmed and the voices dulled as a rushing sound filled his ears and darkness took over.
He vaguely registered that he was coughing, coughing up darkness and blood.
The sound was overwhelming. The voices told him he was dying.
And the pain.
The pain was unbearable.
A sharp, stabbing pain that bloomed in Fitz's chest and synched with his heartbeat. It spread around his torso, squeezed everything out of his stomach, made his hands stop working and his head spin.
The last thing he remembered was darkness.
And voices.
You brought this on yourself, Fitz.
-x-
But that wasn't where it ended.
There were other voices. Coming from outside of his own head.
"What happened?!"
"He just collapsed, and started coughing—"
"Someone get Tam!"
And in the back of all of this, a constant screaming. The echoes had heard this scream before, when they'd first left their mark. It was a scream of death. Fitz felt a similar sound escape his throat. He was lying down now. Somewhere comfortable.
He wanted to escape this pain and leave the shadows behind forever.
Fitz couldn't place the moment everything disappeared. It was a slow and painful end. There was no way to move. No way to run, no way out.
His senses faded slowly away. The last thing he heard was the sound of someone sobbing beside him.
And the scream of death faded away.

alvar voters just don't get it. brant is the most pathetic man in keeper, hands down. alvar may have older sibling syndrome, but at least he didn't accidentally blow up any of his three weed smoking girlfriends.
brant has his ability banned. he gets manipulated into joining a rebel orginization by a guy who views him as nothing but a vessel for his own ambitions. he accidentally joined the opposing group to his fiance.
this boy only really had one person in the world. the ruewens loved him only because jolie did. he was only ever hers. she was his only somewhat healthy outlet.
and then he killed her. i don't think it was on purpose, and that makes it even more pathetic I think. the one person, probably the only person, he's ever had a true connection with.
and she betrayed him, in his eyes. so he let his anger out. and he will always regret it.
and at least alvar was able to somewhat carry the guilt of his actions? if he had any? not brant.
brant just. everblaze is so interesting because even when its revealed he's not fully broken, he's still so cracked and messed up. he has nothing to live for but his own desperate attatchment to the neverseen and what fintan offered him when he joined.
he's in too deep. he killed jolie (accidentally) in part because of them. if he hadn't joined them, it probably wouldn't have happened. if he goes back, if he gives up, it will have been for nothing.
so instead he clings on to his last shreds of sanity and does whatever they ask of him.
and he fucking loses it when he sees sophie. the symbol of the orginization that helped destroy him. one of the main roots of his anger. and she looks just like jolie.
he is haunted by a ghost that just fucking appeared in front of him.
and then oh god. grady and his hand. his scars in general. he's covered in burns from what I can only assume is everblaze, which is fascinating. everblaze is insanely hard to summon. so either he felt just that deeply about jolie, or he did it to himself to cover up the murder.
either way, it's pathetic. it's sopping wet. it's cat-like behavior.
and then grady does even more. he takes one of his hands. he almost drives him off a cliff. and this is someone who, at one point, cared at least a bit for him. even if it was only because of jolie, he looked after brant for years.
but you can't even feel bad because he did this to himself. he is a victim in his own story and a villain in everyone elses. except perhaps the one person he destroyed.
in the process of trying to fix his life (joining the neverseen), all he did was destroy it even more. he turned himself into a fragmented version of what he once was.
he is drowning, and he's been doing it for so long that he doesn't even remember how to swim anymore. doesn't even know if he even wants to.
and then he proceeds to have the most forgettable death in keeper, barring brielle.
go vote brant guys 👍 for me. also. brant day is may 1st. don't forget.

Previous chapter :) in case you missed it
Garwin stares up at his ceiling, watching the fan slowly rotate around. Yes, he gets blinded by the light being on at the center, but that’s preferable to reloading his Imparter screen every two seconds for an update from Alvar.
No less than three hours ago, he got summoned by Fintan, and the last time he was gone this long, he brought back a kid. That better not happen again.
Garwin doesn’t have the patience to deal with a child. Or Ruy. It’s basically the same thing, but at least Ruy can scavenge for his own meals most of the time.
He may have developed an unhealthy habit of going to the Forbidden Cities and flexing his extensive Spanish vocabulary at least three times a week, but, hey, at least he brings food home most of the time, so Garwin can’t complain.
How he’s able to get food with an addler on is also questionable. As is how he acquired human money to pay for it, cause it sure as hell ain’t coming from Garwin’s extremely broke bank accounts.
With that thought, the sound of a correct Duolingo answer echoes through the silent room. However annoying it may be, it keeps Ruy entertained, so, once again, Garwin can’t complain.
    But sometimes he does anyway.
“Have you lost your headphones again?”
“No. I know right where they are. I just can’t move to get them with someone laying on top of me.”
That is a valid point, which is why it should be ignored at all costs.
“Oh no! Whomever could that be?” Garwin asks, shifting to his side to snuggle in closer. And stare at Ruy. Both things that are very important to do.
    He’s so pretty.
Garwin may very well have dozed off much to Ruy’s dismay, because the next thing he knows, the orange light of sunset is shimmering through the windows.
Ruy and Alvar are deep in conversation, speaking in low voices presumably not to disturb him.
Ruy ruffles his hair. “Good evening, mi corazón.”
Garwin yawns. “What did I miss?”
Alvar opens his mouth to explain, but Ruy beats him to it. “Your boyfriend told Finny about his batshit amnesia plan.”
“Oh, he’s my boyfriend now? Why do I always have to deal with him when he’s being an idiot?”
“Because you didn’t get accepted to Yale.” Ruy presses a kiss to Garwin’s temple.
Garwin rolls his eyes. The first time it was funny. The 8123rd time? Significantly less so. Half of those were his own self-deprecating jokes, so he does share some of the blame, but that’s less satisfying than projecting his problems onto everyone else.
Garwin looks at Alvar. “You do realize this is a really, really fucking bad idea, right?”
“Alden’s hiding something. Unless you have a better plan, I’ve had more than enough of that man’s bullshit. Whatever the ‘Vacker Legacy’ entails, I’m sure it’s going to be messy, and I think the trade off is more than worth it.”
“What if you’re fucked up irreparably? What if something goes wrong with your memories?”
“Bold of you to assume I’m not already fucked up irreparably, and, well, I fell in love with y’all the first time. I’ll do it again if I have to.”
That’s the exact kind of answer Garwin was hoping he wasn’t going to answer.
That’s the exact kind of answer that isn’t going to take any form of criticism. And once Alvar has his mind set on something, it might be possible to stop him, but Garwin hasn’t figured out how yet and it’s unlikely he ever will.
Garwin looks at Ruy. “Bitch, I don’t know.”
Ruy stres into his soul, betrayal etched into every line. “Dude. You were supposed to fix him. Fix him. Make him, I don’t know, not an idiot?”
“What do you want me to do? I can’t convince him to do shit. I can’t even convince him to give me the fucking remote.”
This is a real, actual issue Garwin has to go through every single day. He suffers so much for it. He’s the human here, and it’s not like any of the intelligent species produce their own TV shows or movies or whatever. He’s the only one with any personal experience watching human media his entire life, and yet that isn’t enough to dictate what is and is not watched.
“Well, to be fair, your taste in movies is horrendous.”
“That’s not fair. That’s not fucking fair at all. And now out of spite I am going to leave you two to your own devices.”
He could choose to worry about Alvar, but worrying won’t accomplish anything. So might as well go along with his dumb shit because then at least you can have an idea of what he’s doing.
Then when he realizes he’s bad at making life choices, you can tell him I told you so.
And then you’re the moral high ground.
…At least until you do something stupid. And so the cycle continues.
The first week without him, it’s just like he’s on a normal Neverseen mission. Well, at least normal in comparison to other things they’ve done.
Gisela took over again, Sophie and co. fucked up Atlantis. The usual. Actually, technically, Ruy undid the force fields and Sophie found a hydrokinetic friend to just like. Hold the water in place. Because that makes logical sense. Fluid physics definitely works like that. But Garwin chooses to blame Sophie because he can.
One of the very few times Garwin wishes there was some form of news or social media in the cities is when Alvar is found by the Bullshit and promptly scheduled for a tribunal. You know, completely normal shit.
It’s ruled that he’s going to get to go back to Everglen. Which was the goal. So that is a good thing. Even if Garwin isn’t too excited about it because Fitz is probably going to slit Alvar’s throat in his sleep.
Why are the elves so pretentious that they have to name their houses? Eh, whatever. It’s probably more effort to ask than it’s worth.
At least it’ll be fun watching Mr. Golden Boy Vackerpants getting himself banished again or Exiled. Unmapped stars, that would be so fucking hilarious.
The real trouble with Alvar being gone is that it keeps going for literal fucking months on end.
Him moving in got postponed because Umber needed to practice with their shadowflux bending with actual people and, well, Sophie and Fitz were good targets. At least it can still be on schedule for the Lunar festival thing that happens during the lunar eclipse.
Ruy definitely didn’t have lasting damage from seeing that. Definitely. If elves are supposed to break when they see blood and/or gore, he should be so far gone he doesn’t know where he started, but maybe he’s just cool like that. Or the exilium training did that. Or the Neverseen has made him desensitized to things.
Or watching Sharknado every time Garwin manages to claim the remote…maybe Alvar and Ruy have a point about his choice in media to consume.
Nah. They just don’t understand the concept of so-bad-it’s-funny.
The Second One--no, seriously, that’s the subtitle--in all of its horrific magnificence comes out while Alvar is notably still absent, and while it may be sacrilege to watch it without him, the sharknado is too strong and Garwin is too weak to resist temptation.
The Celestial Festival finally comes on October seventh and eighth because nights do that sometimes so long as google is to be trusted to know what day it is.
But what happens during the Celestial Festival is nowhere near according to plan, instead being filled with fucked up troll babies.
Garwin is assigned the job of floating around in the crowd at the festival itself because he’s a useless pathetic human, so he gets the privilege of watching both of his boyfriends risk their lives in glorious technicolor.
Ruy escapes unharmed aside from a bit of splatter from Umber and a shit ton of inevitable nightmares, but Alvar is another story.
In all of the chaos, his memories are returned, so he’s left to figure all that shit on his own while avoiding mutant trolls, both the newly hatched ones and the ones named Fitz.
And it turns out, the one named Fitz is the one to watch out for. Who would have thought? This would have been a great time for an I told you so if it wasn’t so fucking terrifying.
Garwin starts praying to every single god he can think of, from human ones to the entire fucking troll pantheon and even Ogdy of the gnomes because apparently they have their own tree god thing, not just the magic four seasons tree thing.
If there’s such a being that can control the fate of the universe like that, he hopes it has a sense of humor because that’s the only way out of this.
He ignores Gisela’s screeching and leaps to Candleshade--their pre-discussed meeting place should shit go down--because shit has most certainly gone down and begins pacing. It’s not long before Ruy arrives, but it could’ve been hours for how long it felt.
Hours feel like years until the first rays of dawn begin flickering across the horizon and a troll goopy Alvar-shaped mound shambles toward them.
Garwin won’t admit it, but tears escape his eyes when he sees Alvar and tackles him in a hug that probably was a bad idea in hindsight.
A shower and a hot meal can do a lot to revitalize a person. That being said, the hot meal is Kraft mac and cheese, so it’s not exactly the most homecooked of meals, but it's better than burning a kitchen down. Even if Keefe would absolutely fucking love seeing its childhood home burned to the ground, it’s much more fun when the arson is intentional.
There’s no way to tell how bad the reaction from the Neverseen will be or if they’re even technically members anymore after everything that’s gone down. So, being the semi-responsible one of them by comparison, Ruy figures they should stock up on food, and that means human food because the gnomes are still pissed about the whole attempted genocide thing.
Which, in all fairness, does make sense.
While he’s gone, Garwin and Alvar make themselves at home by borrowing into one of the bedrooms, becoming so blanket burritoed it’s likely they’ll never be seen again.
Garwin cups his hand to Alvar’s cheek, whispering, “I’m glad you’re not dead.”
Alvar presses a soft kiss to his lips. “Thanks.”
Normally he’d be full of sarcasm, but this time it’s genuine and that scares Garwin more than he’d like to admit.
Because once the sardonic walls are gone, then actual emotions may have to be accessed, and that’s not fun.
“How are you doing? Considering everything?”
    “Great.”
He’s fine. That means he’s fine.
It’s easier thought than believed though.
Alvar elaborates, “I mean I couldn’t really figure out why my brother hated my guts so much the entire time I had zero memories or why the fuck Darek was so hot because apparently I forgot gay was an option.”
Garwin laughs, remembering the near-fistfight that ensued between Ruy and Alvar over which of the councillors is most fuckable and let’s just say it became a forbidden topic. And also good motivation for taking the government down because they aren’t fucksble until that stupid no relationships rule is abolished.
Well, technically, nothing happens so long as you don’t get caught, but that’s beside the point.
And for the record, Darek’s the hot one. Ruy can suck Terik’s dick but that doesn’t change the truth.
“Lots of confusion overall. Still trying to put the pieces back together because they are nowhere near chronological order. Also feeling a lot of emotions in this Chili’s tonight and it’s been a while since I’ve had emotions so I’m still trying to deal with that.”
“Would you like me to go harass some other room in this place?”
“No!” he answers, too loud and too fast, terror shining in his eyes.
Garwin takes his hand, squeezing gently.
Alvar takes a shaky breath. “Don’t leave me alone. I don’t want--I can’t think about being in that place again. You’re a good distraction.”
    “Everglen or the Troll hive?”
“Yes.” Alvar smirks. “Both of them have my murderous little brother, so is there really that much of a difference? Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of him for willing to do what needs to be done, but that anger can be aimed in a better direction.”
“I feel like it would be funny if you were like ‘I lived, bitch’ and then sent him ideas of how to be more of an anarchist.”
Alvar smiles--the first since his return. “Hey, Fitz, I know you tried to kill me but here’s a to-do list. One: realize like half your anger is just repressed queerness and you’re pissed because I have two whole boyfriends and you’ve got that probably comphet whatever the fuck is going on with Sophie. Two: fuck up that matchmaking system because damn the eugenics are strong with this one. Three: figure out how to ask out that Dex kid you were so insistent about for reasons likely related to item one. Four: profit.”
“Is the Dex kid the strawberry blond that’s for some reason friends with the Sophie?”
“Good job, you remembered one person’s name. I’m proud of you.”
He’s only at three-quarters the normal sarcasm level, which is, once again, honest-to-god terrifying.
He just needs time. Everything will be fine. He’s had a long day. He’ll be his usual asshole self in no time.
It’s just hard to not worry when he’s been gone for so incredibly fucking long.
What if something during that time has messed him up? He doesn’t seem to care that his brother literally tried to kill him, but what if he’s simply in denial? What will it be like when it becomes real?
What if Alden’s presence made him regress back into the closet? Nah. He seems just as gay as ever. That’s the only thing Garwin has any confidence in.
What about the council? They kept him in their prison for weeks on end and there’s no telling how many violations of the Geneva convention they could’ve committed, even despite the elves’ supposed inability to process violence.
Those councillors could’ve just wiped their own memories afterwards, and no one would be the wiser. Or used Goblins. And if Alvar chose to come forward about it--which seems unlikely now that he has his memories, he’d instead use it as fuel for his villain backstory--it would be his word against theirs, a surefire way to lose a legal battle.
“Hey, don’t hurt yourself. Think any harder and you might have smoke coming out your ears.”
See? Right there? He’s fine. But, once again, easier thought than believed.
He was fine after Dimitar’s torture, he’ll be fine after this. That’s what Garwin has to convince himself. Because he can’t let himself imagine what it means otherwise.
Alvar drifts off to sleep, and Garwin spends a long time studying his face, etching every last detail into his mind. His long eyelashes, his unusually unkempt hair, the stubble that’s just barely starting to make itself visible. His shamkniv scars.
He’s been through more shit than elves are supposed to be able to go through, but he’s still here.
And the cherry on top: he’s still an ass.
He is all right, at first. He’s all right for weeks. Some may argue that he’s even more insufferable than usual, but that could just be because both Ruy and Alvar became used to not having to deal with his snark every day.
Although, to be fair, they have had to tolerate each other, so it wasn’t that much of a break. It’s just funny when Alvar drops some deranged bullshit that’s a direct consequence of growing up with Alden. Like his stories of traveling in the human world. Man’s a fucking professional con artist to feed his caffeine addiction.
And then he starts to slow down, unnoticeably at first but accelerating faster than anyone would like to admit, taking more time to climb up the stars, his appetite going to shit, having a normal sleep schedule for once in his life. The occasional nap.
Garwin can see in Ruy’s eyes that he’s noticed the same things, but maybe if they don’t talk about it, it doesn’t exist.
By the time Sophie and Keefe come crashing over to look for god knows what, Alvar is barely strong enough to light leap. How he doesn’t completely fade away is anyone’s guess.
Garwin wishes he could just duct tape all of Alvar’s particles-cells-molecules-quarks together, but apparently that’s not how that works. Also duct tape probably wouldn’t be a safe choice for keeping an organic lifeform’s parts together, but that’s less of a concern.
And they’ve all simply agreed to not talk about it via the lack of talking about it because they’re all firmly in the first stage of grief and not going anywhere anytime soon.
To someone who hasn’t gone through losing a whole ton of people in his life, Garwin can’t help but draw parallels to when his grandfather passed away about a year before he came to the lost cities.
    Three weeks in the hospital.
The day-to-day details are fuzzy, even having hope most of the time, unlike with Alvar. But Garwin never went to see his grandfather. His parents wanted to protect him or something. But that’s a luxury he can’t afford this time, watching Alvar slowly decay like a zombie in front of his eyes.
There has to be a cure or a treatment or something we can do. This is elvin medicine for fuck’s sake! They always advertize how advanced they are compared to humans, but they can’t fucking fix this so what’s the point?
I’d give anything for him to be alright. I don’t care what it takes.
I got a lot of people I can blame.
And Sophie, you better believe you aren’t going to fucking take anything else from me.
