Pen doodles from yesterday and then digital for today
Katale and Rudyard but as little crime babies. Since he's known her for a while and just thought she looked like a little street thug despite being higher ranking than him in the crime organization at first, the cat-ear hairstyle was just A Thing for her. And it spawned the nickname he would use in private of "Kitty" and even when she grows her hair out and he grays even more he still calls her Kitty in private. They're literally just bffs who do crime and what more can you want of them??

yknow ive been thinking again lately about how i would like to see more realism in batman content, both canon and fandom, but not the Dark And Gritty kind. the kind thats like.
yes actually he is highly emotionally intelligent and does understand himself quite well and has just accepted that he is A Freak and decided to roll with it rather than being so horrifically emotionally repressed that he can barely even acknowledge that what hes doing is based in trauma. hes been in therapy since he was like 9 years old. he studies human psychology extensively both for himself and so he has better odds of predicting whats gonna go wrong and how when hes up against a rogue or negotiating a hostage situation or whatever. he meditates for two hours a day and is fully capable of keeping a healthy handle on his anger 98% of the time. he's nice to people and fun to be around and sincerely caring. if he were just Always Right but super isolated and reactive and cruel and controlling everyone would fucking hate him and no it wouldnt be enough to sustain his crimefighting activities, thats a stupid lone wolf fuckboy fantasy
he has a strict 9pm bedtime that he only breaks for mandatory WE/brucie activities or emergencies. if theres a gala where he needs to rub shoulders with ppl to gather intel or keep his company running he'll do it but hes Not Happy about being out until midnight and cuts out early as often as possible, and when hes chasing the joker around until 3am hes lamenting his poor sweet circadian rhythm that did nothing wrong ever in its life the whole time. when hes batmanning hes expending a fuckton of energy and he needs to make it up and have a well-established routine to counteract the punishment hes putting his body through. on a similar note, this man is building braces and compression into his suit and doing extensive physical therapy exercises every day of his life bc he wants to have helpful little things like "knees" and "shoulders" by the time hes 40, and hes probably eating a small farms worth of assorted leafy greens and several chickens per day
he is simply Never drunk and he doesnt actually have that much sex. hes really really good at faking a) being drunk and b) getting a high priority phone call from lucius the minute someone hes making out with starts trying to get his shirt off. he also does a lot of "hey look i gotta get out of here with my reputation intact, can we help each other out and pretend we're gonna go fuck?" kind of negotiating with ppl (see: his 9pm bedtime, plus sometimes hes gotta slip away from an event to be sneaky), which is how a lot of the more wild stories about him start circulating lol. this is a man who's regularly getting gassed/injected/etc with highly experimental substances created by maniacs trying to torment or kill him, he does NOT want substances like drugs or alcohol in his body that could potentially interact with them, and the last thing he needs is to be dealing with a pregnancy or sti scare. plus if he can play it safe with someone and have them think of him as a nice and trustworthy dude who just has a bonkers reputation, all the better for his batman activities!
idk i just feel like theres unexplored potential in a lot of that stuff bc so much of recent batman mythos is like HES SO HARDCORE AND CAN DO ANYTHING AND HES ALWAYS RIGHT CAUSE HES SO PARANOID AND DISRESPECTFUL OF PPL AND THEIR BOUNDARIES BUT ITS OKAY BC ITS IN THE NAME OF BEING RIGHT and im like. okay. gotta admit that i dont rly find that believable or in line with my values. can we talk about WE's sweet sweet employee benefits package and bruce designing his suit to take most of the impact off his knees when he jumps off a roof. members of the jl discovering that he gives shockingly balanced and insightful advice about their mundane personal problems. bruce printing his own batsymbol envelopes to leave people cash after he misaims his grappling hook and breaks their window. things of that nature.

3. Albedo (sorry albedo)
honestly. i love albedo very much. do not get me wrong. he is such a sweet boy and i would knit him a blanket if i could. But I also think compared to the other two,, im not as emotionally attached to him; if you asked me this question like. a year ago he'd absolutely be on top. but thats also because over a year ago i hadn't played silver thread or symbiosis. so. woe is me
albedo'ss story is soooo near and dear to me. like, i love how he's being set up to have this huge divide between love and knowledge. And I will ABSOLUTELY eat that up when it happens. but sadly, a certain company hasn't given him more than like a smidgen of screentime in a very long time, so i think a lot of my fixation on him has dwindled :(
2. Beafford
I love beaford. he is just. so funny.
he's a college dropout; he likes anime; he forces alicia to watch anime; he cosplays; he has a cat keychain that resembles himself; he left home without saying anything; hes really intelligent but acts stupid. What can you NOT love about him?? (besides his horrific taste in fashion.)
I think his personality is also very important to me. Because obviously he's not the most serious person. at all. But he can still convey how smart he is; I.E the way he was able to in the moment find a way to back up Alicia and also the Chinese room experiment. Maybe I'm just a big fan of characters who are smart and dont have it as their entire character; but I think thats just SO near and dear to me. He also clearly has some stuff going on considering his few mentions around his family. So I'm glad he got to come and (against his will) work with Alicia :)

I think mint deserves this spot for a lot of reasons. One, magnolia is his mother so I am just slightly impartial. But also because two, hes so horribly sweet and tragic and kind that he KILLS me.
Mint lives in the forest his whole life and is told explicitly to not go out into civilization. Does he want to live in the city and go to school? yes. and does he voice this? hardly. why? because he knows it makes magnolia sad. and he doesnt want to see his mom said.
Mint meets lady in forest who looks the age of his mom, and said lady tells him his mom is evil. His initial response? He knows. He knows magnolia is evil. he already knows magnolia is a murderer. but he knows magnolia loves him and he loves him mom. so its okay. (In ending B) not a horribly long time later; same women shows up in his room at an unholy hour and within the next hour the SAME women has a gun to his moms head, which is clearly making his mom very distressed. within 5 minutes he finds out this women is his moms ex-wife. within that same 5 minute period his mom disappears and tells him to treat this women like his mom. A couple years later he comes back to the house and we find out he could never bring himself to call dove mom. He also finds out his mom kept all his drawings. Tears are streaming down my face.

I’ve finally finished the chapter!!! :) now I can ask about it.
I don’t know about you but I despise sandels. I would wack him upside the head too. They’re uncomfortable and make weird noises on the floor. They’re just really weird to me I guess. So I appreciate Hueso.
I don’t know if she’s been talked about before in the fic but I assume the girl is Kendra. She always seemed to have a lollipop of some sort on her. I miss watching her and Donnies fights in the show. They were always really funny.
I speak from experience when I say that this ^ is one of the most accurate descriptions I have ever read. When something traumatic happens people brains have a really cool function of forget, ignore/deactualize (is that a word?) or break down. From personal experience I understand the “I know this is really bad but it’s bad to the point of my brain giving up comprehending it and it simply doesn’t compute as anything worth my attention.” I don’t remember from my psych class last year what the name of it is, but I know theres a psychological name for it.
If this is going where I hope it’s going, i’m really excited! Gale isn’t the type of person to see something like that and leave it be. So i’m excited to see what he does with the info.
This made me want to cry. Thats all.

Oh yeah, they are loud. I wasn't even really thinking about it from that direction, but Leo would absolutely be the dumb bitch who wore flipflops to a stealth mission.
Soup made a comment about him wearing socks with sandals and like-to confirm, Leo has the fashion sense of a dead shrimp and would totally wear socks with sandals. Both because he's just that bad at being gay and also to annoy Donnie. But in this particular instance Hueso wanted to make sure he was wearing good walking shoes so his feet wouldn't be sore at the end of the day. (and he's not going barefoot because wtf they're probably immune to HIV but don't go tempting fate here)
I actually very much prefer sandals. I went to college way up north and I would take my trash out in flipflops when it was like -30 out. (I was also very stupid, so don't do this)(not that you can, it doesn't get that cold anymore)
Anita's a Yokai, so no her granddaughter is not Kendra. The Purple Dragons will have another cameo (maybe get a mention in the recovery arc, we'll see) but since everything else has ballooned we just haven't gotten to them.
Which is honestly really funny to me, because Kendra clearly considers herself very important and probably makes the 'Othello Von Ryan's ARCH ENEMY' thing a point of pride. Meanwhile Donnie straight-up doesn't remember her and his brothers are like
A lot of what Leo does is disassociate and compartmentalize, so he's very, very good at going "I know this is objectively horrific, but it also looks kind of sick. I kinda want to poke it with a stick."
Which is a very real and valid trauma response! Not everyone responds to shit the same way. For some people, turning off the 'holy shit' part of their brain or making light of it, that's literally their way of trying to process the thing. And it has its uses. It probably served Leo very well during the Krang war, when things went to shit and he was able to stay rational while everyone around him was panicking.
The problem being, of course, that Leo never unpacks that compartment and just lets it fester. So it just gets worse and worse until something finally rips it all free.
I think this was the first real Cass-Gale fight? Besides little arguments and teasings. I mean, they're siblings, and they're under a ton of stress right now. They're both ready to crack.
I considered having Cass storm off and ending it there, but I didn't really like that. Gale knows that he isn't really mad at Cass, and Cass knows that Gale was lashing out. They're both socially stupid but they know each other. At the end of the day, they'll always have each other's back.

My personal AK!Riddler headcannons. Some of these play into my story so theyre biased, but I tried to keep those aspects out as much as I could.
Riddler has never had a seasoned/fully cooked meal. He mentions in the game he makes himself healthy meals, but the VA mentioned he probably doesnt eat much. The reason I think he doesnt properly cook his meals or seasons them is because hes so infacuated on Batman, he doesnt have time to be patient. He either completely undercooks his food, or overcooks it. On the rare occassion he cooks it correctly, its bland and tastes like nothing.
Firm believer hes petty and has thrown tantrums at the other Rogues. Hes extremely petty, so people dont mess with him much, but, when he throws tantrums he physically has to stop himself from looking like a fool. He only does it in front of Batman, but because hes projecting his fatherly issues on to him.
Riddler only lets people hes REALLY close to call him Eddie. He doesnt have friends but has goons?? So the closest to friendship would be Catwoman. He doesnt get upset when she calls him Eddie, which is his real name. Batman has to call him Nygma, Sir, Mr. Nygma. Could be because of his hinted relationship with her, who knows.
I believe that when Catwoman showed interest in Batman, Riddler did get really jealous. Its one thing to try to move on with another rogue, and another to date your arch nemesis. It was really a punch to his ego when he was pretty much replaced by Batman. The whole trial is about proving to Catwoman that Batman won't be there for her, so 👀👀. I don't really ship them, but its obvious theres something else going on between them.
Riddler definitely has Twitter, Instagram, or some other variation of that. Ever since his #CancelBatman thing, hes had to use bots to drown out the hate. Does he delete the website? Absolutely not. He needs to prove it doesn't get under his skin!
Due to Riddlers projections, I think riddler just wants his fake parental figure to play with him. Explain how a damn race car track is a riddle. Hes playing cars with his dad. Not that im infintizing him in any way- but- what other explanation is there for him to make a giant sewage racecar track without a riddle attached to it. Yes catwomans life is on the line, and theres other actual puzzles, so what the hell is this about?
I like to think that Riddler does have some admiration for the batman. He mentions to Batman that he should take care of his car more, so to some degree he admires the his tech.
Harley Quinn is the only one thats been able to beat Riddler at chess. No one else played with him, but after that he stopped wanting to prove his intellectual superiority among the Rogues. No one really cares about that except him and it keeps him up at night.
Scarecrow has a soft spot for him. Yes he still treats him like he would everyone else, but he just treats him slightly better than everyone else.
Riddler probably has a childhood hamster that died in a horrific way. He loves how hamsters look but hates the idea of owning one from how traumatizing it was. Not that he abused his hamster or anything, from what I've read they tend to die horrible ways for no reason.
I think he loves the little group of people that stan him, but finds them extreamely annoying. Yes, he enjoys the love and attention, but when fangirls 16 year olds claim to be his girlfriend, or grown women claim to be his wife? Not so much. He also doesnt like when his fans plan an attack and try to give Riddler credit for some minor idiotic plan. It hurts his reputation.
He hates being around large crowds of people. He hates being around stupid people, unless the attention is for him then he doesn't mind.
Probably knows the court of owls exists, but thinks theyre full of bologney.
Enjoys hot chocolate more than coffee, but this one was obvious.
He probably tried making a robot family at some point, with a mom robot, dad robot, and brother robot. It didnt work out
Workplace is a mess, but its his mess. He knows where everything is.
He hates the idea of being alone, but does nothing about it. He probably has cried himself to sleep, not only from Batmans trauma, but also his issues that he can't fix.
Lgbt supporter. Batman villains are queer coded, and has shown he has two lesbian henchmen, so I don't think he'd have a reason to be homophobic.
Disliked Joker the most out of the Rogues. Not only because of the spotlight hed get, but because he was rude to him a few times.
Asexual. Never been interested in sex, never will be, unless its for reproduction purposes, but even then he wont get into bed with anyone. He wants his genes to be passed down, but it would be with someone equally smart that fits his description of a perfect woman, but no icky stuff. He'll be a sperm donor but thats as far as it will get.
Not used to being physical. Hates being hugged, touched, or slightly bumped into. He doesnt seem to get much physical contact with anyone aside from metal and some occasional firm handshakes.
to add to that, his fight or flight mode activated once when Harley jumped on his back trying to surprise him. He gave her a black eye and immidiately appologized. joker was still alive.
has had girlfriends before, never liked any of them.
Riddler secretly calls Scarecrow his work best friend.
Doesn't do riddles during Rogues meetings because no one answers him.

how do i begin to love to draw if it's always just low quality and poor no matter how hard i try or practice
You dont need to make a quality art to love drawing. If drawing realistic and high quality is your main goal, then it will take pretty long and you need to resist.
But like i said! Quality of a drawing shouldnt be how you can have fun while drawing. The way you can love to draw, is being able to draw something you desire to draw. If you desire something like tall building on a detailed night time with street lights reflection and moon on the sky with clouds raining 1920x1080 scenery , that.. wont work out well, if you are inexperienced.
The harsh truth is, we cant just "bam, done" our way out espacially when it comes to drawing something. Sometimes, for quality work, we need more than practice.
Now i obviosuly am just a doodler and not a professional, but i can give few tips to help you and others who desire high quality work and for those who are unsure how to love making art!
Research, And Study Art
High quality works requires their respect. You need to research and study the art topic of your mission.
For example, you want to draw humans? You need to take a look at anatomy.
In today's internet and technology, the information you want can easily be accessed.
Be Stubborn A Little
Do not ever give up if you truly want to love drawing. Be stubborn, and dont let go easily. But of course, this is only IF you are SURE you want to learn and love drawing.
Love cannot be forced.
Make It Interesting
Now, if the topic you want to draw is not interesting, it may bore you and you'd think drawing is no fun.
Drawing OF COURSE ISNT fun if you dont carefully choose your topics!! For example, i myself always find normal human drawings a bit boring. Sure, i would respect if it is highly detailed and all. But if someone draws a regular ass human portrait, with not even a pose, uh.. thats a bit boring? What am i supposed to do w that? I see humans all of time. It just looks regular, and not interesting to me.
However. If someone shows me some crazy shit about i dunno a war art of tanky robots taking over a castle with dragons fucking flying in the air or something they just drawed, and even if its low quality, THEN I WOULD GO "OOH THE FUCK IS THAT."
You even may notice it on my works as well! I oftenly do memes or overall stupid silly stuff! For me, i cant just draw Niko standing in there. No. I NEED to add something stupid. Like a banana costume. Maybe TWM in the back making a nuclear bomb with a horrific smile. Or just Niko but with some silly pose.
The point is! You should use your imagination and add elements to your art that interests you!
What is interesting to you? Or your hobbies? Try adding them to your art! And not for the sake of high quality, remember! To love drawing, you first need to have fun with it.
Challenge Yourself
Yes. Challenging yourself on ANYTHING can dramatically improve you.
For example i challenged myself to learn Python last year. I was like "if i dont learn more coding language i am going to die"
Okay maybe you dont need to be that harsh
Another example is me challenging myself to install Arch Linux with text to speech screen while i blindfold myself.
I know, sounds insane and looks pointless. But that stupid decision made me actually fucking learn Linux, virtual machines and bash language more.
Sometimes, all starts with an challenge. My last example is me starting to learn how to play flute just because i thought i should play sans music in a flute while walking around.
Okay my last LAST example : I challenged myself to draw Niko's hat accurately, months ago. Which was incredibly hard but it DID improved me how i draw their hat today!
Challenge yourself, but in a fun way! Dont quickly lose hope and get angry if you cant complete the challenge you just decided to do. You WILL complete it. Once you decide to, its over. It only takes time.
I can suggest daily stuff like Inktober Challenge too! I always wanted to do that!
Different Styles
Like i said previously, never try to draw the same thing in a same way. The result will not change in that way and you'll be exhausted.
Try different brushes, colors, style, objects etc.! Sometimes, draw something completely unrelated to you! Yeah, fr!
Friends Are Good. Artist Friends Are Even Better
If you are lucky and have art buddies, oohh DONT WASTE TIME. Draw with them!
I have bunch of art buddies that i draw with, mostly with online ways like aggie.com , skribbl.io , Gartic Phone etc! I can not explain enough how fun and important these moments are!
If you dont have artist friends, its actually easy to find! Like me, being in a fandom and making art for it is mostly enough to have interacting with other artists in the community!
They comment on your work, you comment on their work! You then talk other stuff besides art with them too, and in time, bam! Friens!
That's how it went for me! Amazing artists in OneShot community (also from other communities!!) reached me out, and so i reached them out too!
How? Drawing, of course :> when i draw Niko, other fellow Niko enjoyers found me, and so did i found them!
And i admit, i feel like a little bug sometimes when i compare my works and some of my artist friends work. Some of them are really born to draw, oh i can say! Me, not really am just vibing!
But this also helped me. Because, well, if someone is good at something and they see no problem teaching it to you too.. YOU ARE BLESSED!

It's official. Your Rot Monster AU has successfully wormed its way into my brain and it's not leaving. Hope you don't mind more questions:
How did the Kamaboko Squad meet up in this AU, if at all? What kind of hijinks do they get into?
Can we get more backstory on the Shinazugawa brothers? How do an angel and demon end up as brothers? (I remember you saying that Sameni was selected to be an angel, but what about Genya?)
What's Muzan up to in this AU? I imagine similar bullshit as canon, but the existence of more monsters makes my mind go to darker places.
What are humans up to in this AU? I've snippets mentioning them, but nothing really concrete. Are the Ubuyashikis human, still running the Demon Slayer Corps?
I'll probably have more questions later.
(P.S. I have a fic for this AU in my WIP. Have no idea if it'll ever be done, but who knows?)
I surely dont mind at all, im so happy others took interest in my au!
Hmm Tanjiro(Pheonix harpy), Nezuko(Corrupyed Pheonix harpy), Zenitsu(lung storm dragon) and Inosuke(either a boar troll or a boar faun) met the same way as in canon. Kanao(butterfly Fairy) was later introduced when the gang met the Angel rank (Sanemi, Shinobu and Gyomei tho Sanemi was missing, at this time he was long gone).
Genya was introduced once the gang was accepted and viewed as worthy in Sanemi’s eyes.
Hmm when the whole group is together, they usually do pretty tamed stuff. Most extreme stuff they’ve done is hunt not so powerful demons as a hunt game, they’re all pretty brutal creatures so they kill these demons in the most horrific ways possible.
Shinazugawa brothers, the angel cycle.
Sanemi was originally a dragon along with Genya. Angels are cherry picked by the corp, they get to decide who is worthy of such tittle since angels in this au are powerful warriors, battle machines and nothing more or less.
Sanemi was chosen to be an angel and was sent to the corp for training (like in the army! Once you’re recruited, they’ll take you to base to break you). When Sanemi came back from training, he found his family dead but luckily he wasn’t so late to save Genya but to his horror, Genya was feasting on their parents (who were infected with spores from a demon) and that made Genya turn into a dragon demon inmune to the spore’s mind control. //I’ll maybe get more in detail about this in the future.
Angels by default are demon slayers, they will destroy any corrupted being or malicious creature they come across but this was Genya, the only family he had left. So he kept him a secret in his temple. Sanemi raised his brother in secret from everyone until Kanae went to visit Sanemi with out consent, Genya thought it was Sanemi and the rest was a bloody mess.
Muzan
Hmm I have not yet settled anything for Muzan yet. I thought maybe Lucifer himself but very similar life style to the netflix series lucifer. Rich dude, very well known but not many know he is Muzan, the mf they after since he takes many form. But thats for now, we yet haven’t planned anything.
Humans
Humans are still present in this au. Very common actually, basically they’re just living their lives in villages snd being tormented by the monsters/creatures under Muzan’s hand.
But some have found certain creatures and considered them as gods, religious or worthy enough to offerings and gifts. Examples are Giyuu Tomioka(Water lung dragon), Douma(Kelpie) and Sabito(Forest/River Kitsune).
Also yes! The Ubuyashikis are still in control of the corps! They’re common humans but they’re honest and hard work has been respected and they’re all in debt with them (not in a bad way more like for example, Tomioka was taken under Urokodaki’s care which he was oart of the corp and Tomioka felt he owed the corp for their kindness)
If that made any senseee????? Tho Tomioka retires later on!

ok while i'm waiting for 1026 to be uploaded im going to go ahead and rate all the one piece movies
One Piece: The Movie: like... 6.5/10. wasn't particularly engaging or interesting but it did give us like half of the one piece soundtrack so its gotta earn points for that
Clockwork Island Adventure: 5/10. it was decidedly mediocre. not terribly offensive and some of the worldbuilding was cool even if entirely unexplained, but not terribly interesting either. negative points for damseling nami
Chopper's Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals: 6.7/10. another decidedly mediocre, but was funny at points
Dead End Adventure: 9/10. i really enjoyed this movie honestly it was funny and engaging and had a few really good character moments which is more than we usually get. terribly underrated
The Cursed Holy Sword: 3/10. bad zoro interpretation and was terribly boring outside of like one or two funny luffy gags.
Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island: 10/10 its baron omatsuri what else can you say. absolutely NOT the tone of one piece but thats what makes it so so very cool. and horrific. and also the animation is gorgeous
The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle: 9/10. the plot isnt terribly interesting but there are so many spectacular strawhat interactions and also the island actually being a giant turtle is very epic. another terribly underrated film
Episode of Arabasta: The Desert Princess and the Pirates: ?/10 havent watched it yet but i'm under the impression its just a condense and reanimated version of alabasta
Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura: 8/10 i mean its drum island except with a handful of minor differences. i liked the animation and some of the backgrounds were really pretty. but yeah i mean its drum island
One Piece Film: Strong World: 3/10. i hate shiki. i hate that dumb clown. negative points for damselling nami. the only things going for this movie are the straw hats with guns (and garp & sengoku appearing for .2 seconds in the beginning). anybody who tells you this is a good movie is LYING theyre LYING
One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase: ?/10 i havent actually seen this? maybe ill watch it this week. kind of put off by virtue of it being 3d but who knows
One Piece Film: Z: 2/10. anybody who tells you this one is a good movie is ALSO a dirty dirty liar. aside from the fact that the plot was a mess and it was literally just a series of loosely connected events until the climax and also sanji's worst scene ever in anything of all time, zephyr couldve been an actually interesting and compelling villain but his backstory SUCKED and like ok boo hoo youve decided to say the marines suck not because of any the atrocities theyve committed or lives theyve ruined you only quit when it started having a bad impact on you specifically. boo hoo cry me a river. "ohhh the marines suck and the pirates suck so im going to kill EVERYBODY!!!" despite the fact that 90% of your victims will be innocent civilians. shut up and die. the only things redeeming this movie are 1) chopper's cow outfit 2) aokiji fanservice 3) admiral & old people trio marine rookie pics. thats it. see the most infuriating part is that zephyr COULD HAVE BEEN GOOD. he COULD HAVE BEEN. you couldve made him somebody who saw the terrible awful corruption in the marines and decided that they sucked, not because it was starting to impact him specifically poorly, but because its impacting pretty much everybody in this world poorly. but god forbid we actually try to have a DECENT one piece film villain. can you tell i hate this movie
One Piece Film: Gold: 10/10 straw hat heist movie with zoro as the damsel and robin in a suit for like 5 minutes. what else could you ask for, honestly
One Piece: Stampede: like. 5/10. the plot for this one was mostly just an excuse to shove every single character the series has ever had into it and as a result was kind of a total mess and yet they still didnt have the heart pirates appear like at all because they hate me specifically but i'll survive. anwyays its was like. okay. its fine, i guess. its not offensive but its not terribly interesting either.

Damn chapter 172 was heavy. As a final note: I love how even Zhang Chunliu (yet another case criminal) is a parallel to Fei Du. All of the key criminals are pretty much. In this case, everything Luo Wenzhou says about Zhang Chenlius past could as easily be said about Fei Dus. The difference, of course, being Fei Du "is a good child." He turned out with good intent.
Despite similar traumas and pains growing up, the way Zhang chenliu did. And yet that rant Luo Wenzhou gave, of how horrible Zhang chenliu is and how he probably justifies it with his past trauma and horrible people surrounding him... Fei Du for years probably wondered if Luo Wenzhou thought that way about Fei Du. If one day Luo Wenzhou would, if he didn't already. Fei Du lashed out so many times saying he Was that horrible, that despicable, wondering if Luo Wenzhou would agree and push him away. Wondering if Luo Wenzhou would keep holding space for him, staying connected to him, giving him the benefit of the doubt that Fei Du can be good intentioned. Despite everything he says, and that he's done.
And Fei Du did. He did turn out good, despite what he's done. He does want to help people. He does care. He has many of the same excuses as Zhang Chenliu: his household abused him and imprisoned him, his social circle was fairly evil horrible people (oblivious dumb Zhang Donglai was pretty much the Only nice person in Fei Dus social circle of other rich people... the Yan City rich are absolutely horrific crime and abuse wise). Outside of that, he had Luo Wenzhou and Tao Ran, because Luo Wenzhou kept stubbornly sticking himself into Fei Dus life even knowing he wasn't capable enough to ever actually protect him from all of that. Even realizing he failed to protect Fei Du from much of anything.
But just trying. It means a lot. That someone, anyone in that sea of awful, did care if Fei Du got to decide what he should do and what he thought was right for himself. (And that led to more connections, to Tao Ran as a genuine friend, to Xiao Haiyang and Lu Jia and the people he genuinely helped in his secret company, to the victims he wanted to see stop suffering any further, to - i think - genuinely caring about Zhang Donglai at least a bit). When Fei Du was little, he waa a lot like the little girl Su who hurt other little girls. He was a lot like Zhang Chenliu in terms of circumstance. It took a tiny bit of freedom carved out thanks to a little safety from Luo wenzhou and Tao Ran, and like a butterfly even with a beaten cocoon he had at least enough space to figure out who he might be. Just might.
I think a lot of this novel is not even about if you succeed. It's about just the trying of it. Luo Wenzhou never truly knows the outcome, but he tries. Even when it's hopeless. Tao Ran thinks the world is awful and that his trying, other people trying, is the only thing that gives the world some space to Be kind and nice at times. Fei Du often contradicts himself, the reader in a way with his lies even hidden to us for a while, but he's driven to carve out some path. Who knows what, but he's going to do the carving himself. And characters like Lu Jia, Zhou Huaijin... are trying. Characters at the side are in a way all trying, even if its a goal the protagonists would never agree with...or trapped in the failure to. And yeah trying is broad lol I know ToT words are hard.
But just like... in silent reading I think as much as a story has clear villains... a point is also just there's nothing really clear cut in everyone's view. What's good to Fei Du is bad in Luo Wenzhous eyes. Trust that Luo Wenzhou values and wants to offer his loved ones, Tao Ran is terrified to let people trust and love him just to be destroyed if he fails them. Zhang Chenliu is the "bad guy" in this moment, and his company was horrific yeah. But to him being with his dage and Loyal to Death was Good... was the Best choice, and thats a choice perhaps Luo Wenzhou would make given the same childhood and his own loyalty to loved ones. Or maybe it's a choice he wouldn't. The point is that this story really delves into how people are just people, all myriad in their view of the world and morality, and as we interact our own perceptions all mesh to one mutual world we have to function in and find a way to connect to others in (like Luo Wenzhou and Fei Du), like all of us when our own perceptions no longer stand up in the world because we've crashed into people that made them no longer hold (like Zhang chenliu to Luo Wenzhou now).
Sorry, Director Zhang. I’ve found some things you didn’t want people to know, so I got here a step ahead and have been waiting here for you,” Luo Wenzhou said quietly. “Director Zhang, all these years you’ve spent venting the pain you experienced onto others, has it helped?
“You clearly knew that Zheng Kaifeng and Zhou Yahou were birds of a feather, and you still wallowed in the mire with him.” Luo Wenzhou turned a deaf ear on him. “Do you have nightmares? Do you dream of the monsters that hurt you when you were little? Have you been afraid all these years, feeling that you couldn’t surmount them, that you couldn’t face them, and so you had to become like them…”
“Shut up!”
“You knew that Zhang Chunling couldn’t control himself. He even went to Su Hui, like Zhou Yahou, like those heavy-jowled, pot-bellied assholes. It’s written down in Su Xiaolan’s diary. A girl who had just started elementary school—
“Who did Zhang Chunling take her for? The little Su Hui, who was the same age back then at Heng’an Orphanage?”
Zhang Chunjiu blank stare split open. “You understand shit!”
Luo Wenzhou’s gaze met Zhang Chunjiu’s in midair. He saw that the man’s eyes were bloodshot, like a trapped beast forced into a dead end. Zhang Chunjiu suddenly laughed quietly and slowly pressed down on his own chest. “You understand shit.—Luo Wenzhou, Young Master Luo… Have you ever been beaten? Have you ever been hungry? Do you know what it means to be afraid all the time?”
As he spoke, he slowly pulled his hand out of his inside pocket. The muzzles of seven or eight policemen’s guns locked on him at the same moment—Zhang Chunjiu was holding a small detonator!
“You don’t know anything, so don’t stand there talking about it.” One word at a time, Zhang Chunjiu said, “I’ll tell you a secret…”
Just then, a phone call came through to Luo Wenzhou’s earpiece.
Luo Wenzhou had no attention to spare, but he heard desperate panting from the other end, and Tao Ran struggling to spit out two characters in a wretchedly hoarse voice—
“Fei, Fei Du…”
“Fei Du is a good child.” Zhang Chunjiu lowered his voice strangely, his words coinciding with Tao Ran saying “Fei Du” over the earpiece. Luo Wenzhou’s pupils contracted.
Without warning, Zhang Chunjiu pressed down on the detonator.

Actually the shonen genre is infamous for the vast majority of it's series NOT killing off its hero character no matter how much sense it makes, and as such one of the big reasons why so many fans are pissed off about Bakugo surviving is that MHA, which is a series that has prided itself on not breaking away from exploring and deconstructing the various shonen tropes, is not able or willing to break away from "Almost none of the heroes ever dies no matter how much sense it makes storyvise" trope that has plagued Shonen manga for over 20 years now.
There are exceptions, but as a whole Shonen Manga are terrifying of ever allowing Heroes to die, no matter what.
It wasn't always this way, but ever since July 22, 1997, when One Piece was first published, the Shonen genre has been plagued with a very, very specific formula of "Heroes has something horrible happen to them and will most definitely die, no actually they survived, rinse repeat, over and over again, until any tension is dead."
The exception is flashbacks, where Oda realized he could get away with the absolute most horrific and terrible things happening to characters, without having to deal with the consequences of stuff like Genocide, mass death toll, maimings, etc, and not have to deal with it happening in the present, and thus directly affect the main cast and have them deal with it.
Meanwhile in the present oda has demolished the messages of entire, multi-arc storylines just so that none of the named good guys died.
He once devoted an entire arc to the rather simple but effective message "people die in war", and wrapped up that entire arc's emotional climax with one character making the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good, going out in a blaze with the force of a small nuke, only to have him survive afterwards with no explanation.
He once had a character with sensory power explicitly state that she could sense that lives all across her homeland was snuffed out one by one... only for everyone to be revealed to be fine once it was all over.
And im not even going to go into every single time characters make far, far more seemingly decisive character sacrifices than bakugo ever made, only to turn up fine in the end.
Because if i did, i would find literarily dozens of examples, though few are as INFURRIATING as the one i listed off first with the nuke. Oda really obliterated the emotional development he had built up for 4 consecutive arcs, just so that a character that never did anything of note, ever again didn't die.
In the most recent arc of one Piece, there was a guy who was shot through the head, and left to lie in a pool of his own blood and brian matter, and i shit you not, the fans reactions was not "holy shit he just died!" It was(mine included), "eh i wonder how he's gonna be revealed to still be alive."
The fact he actually did die in the end, was ultimately a way bigger shock than the sudden and brutal manner he died from. And that speaks volumes.
Oda has abused the same storytelling method that Hori used with bakugo(Which Oda himself popularized) so many times that those tiny, insanely rare moments good guy characters does die, you can literarily count a hundred named characters who SHOULD be dead as well.
So that is one reason so many manga fans have NO CHILL about Bakugo pulling through. My Hero Academia is a series that before it reached a certain point was generally very clear that actual damage was for keeps... So seeing Bakugo(A character a lot of fans DESPISE) survive not one, but two instances of this trope that everyone is sick to death from, from One Piece popularizing it far and wide(and OP STILL being around a continuing to use it every chance it gets), in a manga that was supposed to be better than this, is infuriating.
Addmitingly thats not my main reason for being annoyed(I just genuinely think Bakugo dying as "his body moved on its own" was the single most poetic and fitting way for his story to end) about it all, as i do still love one piece despite this giant, gaping flaw.
I do however, as a shonen reader who saw this trope development happen in real time, understand perfectly why so many people have just had enough of it.
So what I'm hearing is that I made the right choice in watching a shonen once a decade so that I can enjoy them or not on their own merits. Good to know.
I'd also make a quip about Once Piece, but you noted that you like it despite this nonsense, and it was for a completely different kind of nonsense that I happily gave up my own attempt to read it.

We hear people are talking about horror stories? May we share one?
We do not trust people who praise IEPs and nothing else, which is maybe like 99% of the Disabled and Neurodivergent communities.
This is no particular "teacher" but moreso the entirety of [REDACTED] school district, actually. Nobody ever stood up for us when it was Very Clear that our IEP was committing ableist double standards since our same-age peers were allowed to say "fuck" three times down the hallways and we couldn't even say "crap" our three years in high school.

We will burn down [REDACTED] with our own two hands and a shitton of gasoline we stg — and that is exactly why we graduated early and moved the fuck out about an hour to three hours away from there, because we do not trust ourselves to mot hurt ppl if we lived down there longer-term.
But sure, Janice, go right on ahead and sing praises for USian IEPs. Whatever.
Oh and we uhhh have a lot more than that on horror stories, that was just the first thing we could think of. We can share more if you'd like but they're all pretty horrific, especially the seclusion room ones. The ones the know about 100% and still came to the conclusion we're endogenic and that sysmeds like gaslight us about, as if we weren't literally gaslit in SI rooms. :)

Listen I am in like ALL of the good autism groups and I fucking agree, FUCK IEPs. Every, EVERY SINGLE. FUCKING. DAY. I see schools using an IEP not for its intended purpose, but as basically a sneaky ABA tool. Its all fucking behaviourism and forced compliance and breaking down a child and then! AND THEN! BECAUSE THE US IS A NIGHTMARE. PARENTS NEED A FUCKING LAWYER TO FIGHT THIS SHIT. FOR A FUCKING IEP.
And thats just the parents who see through the waffle and bullshit and see what they are actually trying to do with the IEP. Most parents will naturally defer to the "experts".
Like the extent to which these children are micromanaged and controlled through IEPs. I've known of kids having litteral medical emergencies, in unimaginable pain, and they sit there and they don't say a word because "child will stop displaying inappropriate emotional responses" is on the fucking IEP and everyone has decided "innapropriate" in this case means "I dont want a crybaby in my classroom". Some kids are not allowed to even glance away from the teachers eyes for a SECOND when the teacher is talking if its on their IEP. Can't fidget like the other kids, can't be bored like the other kids, can't run round like the other kids. Cant even chose what words to say when saying hello to their friends in the morning. Just. Cant be a kid.

ooh ooh thats really difficult to answer actually, they're all super relatable
possible spoilers btw guys- and maybe personal lore drops too
but if i had to pick, probably like, Chess or Riley??
Chess because i'm pretty much the oldest of my main friend group, and i'm the first to go to college (bonus points that i'm leaving my best friend behind :(( ), and i just relate to her a lot with addiction (not anything for my "knee" but yk) experience and personality wise. while i'm more upfront like kate, i usually keep my head in situations even when i'm really pissed (mostly)(that is a LIE i have a crazy bad temper when my friends are being picked on).
Chess also took her gymanst career seriously, but dropped out (i think??? i might be wrong) and just stuck to doing the Tigers, while i did similar when i dropped out of soccer and pretty much all sport and stuck with theatre
i'd say i'm also a lot like Riley just how i generally act and respond to things (minus stabbing my teammates). e.g., i do absolutely horrific under pressure and literally cannot handle it at all, like to the point where i'm slamming my head off the table and crying while Captain of the Team plays (/hj). all jokes aside when i'm not doing whatever that is i usually bounce around and try my absolute BEST to stick to any plans made like: "wait but ye said _____. STOP CHANGING IT" (worst nightmare is anything being changed in the plans, aka the daily agenda)
generally i take a lead of whatever situation i'm in, but i ALWAYS have someone showing me how to do it or guiding me (e.g. a Cairo) like i am the most independent-codependent mf you will EVER meet like its not funny atp
also this probably doesn't count but i would LOVE to be on a cheerleading team like oh my god BEING A FLYER LOOKS SM FUN

for a guy who got revived from being esploded and then locked in a warehouse for 30 years hes doing pretty ok but he's quite ptsd'd and brain damaged and chronic pain'd. him and his bestie can bond over shared morphine ^w^
💤 — is your oc a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper? how are their sleeping habits?
its really a mixed bag LOL generally he sleeps lightly and disturbedly. a little more scheduled at the fresk facility (not his choice) but a little less horribly overall once hes with faust.
💯 — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.
Details irt his dying and undying: he was like esploded and shot because he happened to join the military just before the once-every-20-years-severe-civil-unrest. and he died but the soon-to-be-defunct Citizens Longevity Project stitched his sorry ass back up and life supported him and tried to see wtf else would work Experimentally. it was Painful and Traumatizing for him. The project got defunded like a year or two after they realived him but long story short the founder coordinated things to where he and the others would pretty much have to just relocate but still stay in Custody. It was already pretty horrific but the quality of care obviously went steeply downhill LOL the only good part was that they didnt really bring in anyone new to get experimented upon.
2. Unlike harvey he actually graduated highschool before joining the military, but honestly it probably woulda been better for him to go earlier since he kinda sucked at school LOL. part two: i regret to inform that altho he was mainly a soldier/body to get shot at, his position during peacetime was pretty much just a junior cop.
3. He's pretty unimpressed by Faust's fancy coffee-making skills and doesnt really like coffee in the first place, but anything that isnt Facility Slop is a treat to him so he drinks it anyway.

He still remembers how to shoot *smiles* thats pretty much all tho, he'd have been a decent fighter in his youth despite his tall scrawnyness but those days are long gone. he sure can try tho.

I don't think he's ever really had pets or anything, but he'd likely enjoy a dog. i say this insultingly.
💔 — what are three of your oc's negative traits?
Im gonna like.....not bring his Circumstances into it so i'll just focus on his base personality LOL. he's a Sheeple for lack of better words 😔 severely. Kinda in the same vein, he's quite approval-seeking. And i think he also suffers from harvey's disease in that he acts very passive and clueless while participating in (usually indirect) violence. altho i suppose he paid for that last one pretty quickly seeing how his bout in the military ended LOL.
💜 — what is your oc's ancestry/genetic background?
Apart from several generations of region zeroites, i think his and harvey's ancestors are majorly like. german/british medwestern americans.

Faust gives him his unwanted scraps like he's a dog. He gets his own lunch when theyre living together too tho, ofc. hes a VIP. He has whatever Faust is having and its a LUXURY compared to the like. cheese sandwiches and slop he's been served at the freak facility.
🤔 — what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?
He's often very confused or volatile Because he is confused because he was like literally reborn today and he can't catch a break. He has a staring problem.
🧐 — is your oc more logical or emotional?
He's guided by his desire to Keep The Peace, and he usually sees that as doing what he's told. I think its an emotional response. It's hard for him to follow much logic even if he wanted to nowadays, he's only able to operate in the Non-Warehouse World off of what the extremely biased other in his life have told him since he's been out.
