If you watch the interview, you'll know that the girl here and another one sat in their tank and shelled kibbutz for 17 hours straight, and yet they're being hailed as heroes.
From the beginning, we knew Israeli forces were firing at their own people. We knew that Hamas doesn't have the weaponry to result the destruction we've seen. But since nobody believed, now the truth keeps unfolding about Oct 7.
Watch the interview with Yasmin Porat who was at one of the kibbutz's. She said Hamas treated them humanely, she said they were scared but they [hamas] didn't abuse them. The interviewer was taken aback. The interviewer asks if "terrorists" killed all the bodies lying in the ground but she said: "NO, it was UNDOUBTEDLY our forces." Her exact words. Google her name and listen to the interview.

I have thoughts in regards to That Photo of Shani Louk receiving an award.
But first, I'd like to address something I've seen in our community about how the situation has been handled.
Many people I've seen have been sharing their anger and pain in regards to the photo and the award, rightfully so. However, many of these people have shared those thoughts alongside That Photo. While I understand the intent of this, I'd like to just ask for people to not do that.
Do not distribute That Photo in any way, please.
Shani Louk's family has asked for that photo not to be shared. Her family has asked for her to be remembered for her life, not her death.
Instead, I encourage you to share your views alongside a photo of Shani from her life. Share her as she lived, not as she died.
Let Shani's memory be who she was, not what was done to her.
Now, I know there's little I can say about the photo and award that hadn't already been said. I'd like to talk about it anyway.
First and foremost, receiving an award for photographing a woman being subjected to the worst a person can endure is disgusting. That award was given for taking a picture of a woman who has been raped and killed, and of her body continuing to be violated and paraded around. Not for protecting her, not for intervening, not for doing anything to help anyone.
Additionally, as I mentioned before, Shani's family has asked for that photo not to be spread around, and the resurgence in publicity that this photo is getting as a result is a direct blow to the family's wishes.
In that photo, for the purpose of that photo, Shani is used as little more than a prop. It is dehumanizing and violating. It is beyond that, but I cannot even come up with words to articulate how horrible it is.
I'm sure we've all heard the phrase, "people love dead Jews" at this point. This photo receiving a major award is simply confirmation of this. This photo, a photo of a dead Jewish woman, receiving such a highly esteemed award, proves this. I am sick to my stomach just writing about it.
There is nothing about that photo that would merit an award and it tramples upon Shani's memory and dehumanizes her even further than she already has been.
In protest of that award, I encourage you to share photos of her that aren't of her lowest moment.
Share photos of her life, share photos of her art. Do not share photos of her death.
Here are some photos I am choosing to share:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can find these photos online, there's a whole Instagram account dedicated to sharing photos of her life. The first and last photos are from an article about her art being put up in an exhibition. These photos are out there, just find and share them please.
May her memory be a blessing and may it be protected from further desecration.

It has been one month since this war started. One month since I have slept peacefully, managed to take care of myself, or avoid looking at the news for more than five minutes. It has been one month of people telling me they're happy my people are dead, that they wished more would have died, that they and diaspora Jews deserve it. It has been one month since every moment hasn't felt like the world was upside down. One month since people I thought were my friends have came out in support of my murderers.
Words cannot describe my grief. I watch jews being attacked all over the world as thousands more cheer and call for even more Jewish death. Each attack, each murder, feels as if I've lost a sibling. I am not even allowed to express my mourning without someone shouting "what about the palestinians" as if me being sad about 1400 of my people being brutally slaughtered and another 240 taken hostage is somehow a political stance. I am keenly aware that any expression of my sadness or fear makes them happy.
Despite all of this, we continue. Jews have been more united than I have ever seen them. Hillel and Chabad are coming together for unified events, I have seen Jews decide to wear kippot and tzitzit wherever they go. I have seen Jews who are celebrating the first shabbat of their life and learning the blessings. I have seen Jews who decided to put up mezuzot and menorah in their window. Never before have I seen synagogue attendance so high except on high holidays. Yes, I am sad, I am scared. But my pride for how Jews have come together outweighs every negative feeling I have. They wanted to hurt us, to divide us, to make us weak. But I have never seen Jews stronger than we are right now.

Love when antisemites prove your own point.
I made this post here about how denying the mass rape during Oct 7th is not only bad on its own, but also hurts jews internationally who have been raped or sexually assaulted.
Please see this interaction with an antisemite on the topic. I have deleted their replied and blocked them as they decided to not understand my post and instead be antisemitic.

"Proven to be a lie"
I literally searched for said proof and could not find any except on reddit, Twitter and tik tok. And even then it was not proof, it was just people going "I think this didn't happen and is a (((zionist))) plot." Which is not proof.
There see literally hundred of articles which say that it did happen.
Now into the topic of the IDF raping people.
Firstly, yes some IDF have raped people. I am not denying that. What is different is its not mass rape like what happened during Oct 7th.
Both are bad. Both should be talked about. Both are terrible things and the people responsible on both sides should be punished if they are still alive.
What you should not do is go onto a post talking specifically about the rape of Israeli and Jewish women and go "well what about this".
That is not you starting a conversation about the IDFs actions in good faith. That is you trying to delegitimize the mass rape of Oct 7th. Obviously the antisemite I'm calling out was trying to do that all along. That is moreso for anyone else reading this.
If you care so much, make your own post about the topic you want to discuss. There is no need to derail another post.
The same antisemite then went to another post where I rebloged and added an addition. This post here and replied to my reblog of it with "free Palestine". My addition had mentioned how my family who are arab jews, were forced out of the Middle East for being jewish despite the fact that they (and me) are arab.
Tumblr media
The reason for this post is to document the antisemitism that I and many other jews face.
We cannot even hold space for our trauma without people being antisemitic and derailing our posts.
To @/thekneesofoldtrees, you are a shit cunt who harasses jews. You are not saving Palestine by denying the rape of Jewish and Israeli women and you are not saving Palestine by harassing random jews online.
Your actions do nothing to help Palestinian civilians.

Is the New York Times losing its credibility on Israel-Palestine?
In December 2023, The New York Times published an explosive article - now widely discredited - that detailed Hamas’s agenda to weaponise rape and sexual violence on October 7. The controversies surrounding the article are revealed along with the broader issue of Western media outlets’ pro-Israeli/anti-Palestinian bias.
Germany’s toxic debate on Gaza
After they won an award at the Berlinale film festival, the reaction to a speech by filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Basel Adra has become the latest example of Germany’s toxic debate on Gaza.
Genocide in Gaza through the eyes of Israeli soldiers
For months, Israeli soldiers in Gaza have been documenting their own war crimes against Palestinians and sharing them on social media. Three experts on human rights and torture examine the material.

2:50 "Since the pogrom of 7th of October, we've witnessed... the complete collapse of the moral authority of the Woke Left, and the Woke Elites. These are the kind of people who, for years, have posed as caring, and loving, and wonderful people who just want equality and just want everyone to be treated fairly and nicely. We now know--courtesy of the barbarism of the 7th of October [and those who support it or turn a blind eye to it]--what a MYTH that was."
