How They Change: She feels the occasional twinge of regret over the monster she’s become. That comes back more often now that she’s working with the Rethani again. Don’t think she’ll pursue any kind of redemption, though- her story is one of corruption and fall from heroism.
Why You Love Them: She’s fucking awful. I love her. Sometimes you just gotta be the baddie.

Story Outline (because I’ll probably never find the time to write it properly) Time!
Features more @kaijuslayer‘s OC’s.
We left off where The Prince-Commander gets a sort of mind meld reading from the Rethani leader, Keuna Meshadi Siamun.
Tarron is troubled and oddly silent for the rest of the visit on Tel Rethan. His mind is focused elsewhere so he lets Faelon do the mundane talking. The Rethani agree to send a small detachment of observers to the Prince’s flagship. They will be links to the Rethani Craftworld that will facilitate communications and decision-making.
Keuna and her husband are reading to leave but not before sending the Caliranites on their way. The High Farseer and High Autarch personally present the Rethani Taskforce that will join the Caliranites.
Most are a bit disturbed, you can feel there is apprehension floating in the air. The Rethani have heard a lot of things about Caliranites, most of it peculiar at best and barbaric at worst. The whispers were about how they were a bit primitive in their social interactions and how they are not really comfort-oriented, those were actually pretty mild stereotypes, the worst ones were not uttered but the Rethani were trying hard to allude to them with their eyes during the whispering.
But since Rethani had been, up until now, always carrying an outdated opinion of anything, really (since they were travelling at almost C), the Rethani were actually going to enjoy the experience more than they thought.
In the group, there is a tall, strong woman and High Farseer Keuna calls her forward, in front of the Prince. This is “Naesala Valkas, on of our Banshee exarchs” Naesala bows slightly, just with her head, without turning her eyes away. “don’t you recognise her?” asks Keuna, with a little smile.
It is the woman who saved him when he was a child, when the Caliran Empire burned in the fires of Astartes fury. Naesala was a young warrior at that time and he was a youngling. He simply remarks “time has treated you well”.
They gathered all the information they could have hoped for except Eldrad’s whereabouts. The Rethani don’t like Ulthwe that much. Faelon knew that but he had hoped that they would know, given the circumstances. Keuna replied politely but you could feel a hint of contempt in her voice.
Caliranites are super buddies with Ulthwe so Faelon is a bit “meh how childish of them” but then Caliranites don’t like Iyanden so much and Rethani do so, Faelon just realises that all of it is silly when you are at the gates of a possible reunification.
He dares voicing this fact and a tension relieving laughter ensues. “I suppose you are right, it won’t be easy coming back together after growing apart for so long” conceded High Farseer Keuna. “Speaking of which” she said, turning to her eldest daughter. “I believe you have some primitive tribesmen to bring back into the fold” -”It will be my first mission as High Farseer, mother” she answered, the voice slightly trembling from the emotions brought by the departure of her parents, her new role, a bit of sadness, a bit of apprehension.
Keuna put her hand on her daughter’s shoulder and said “very good”.
Everyone parted. The Caliranite transport left first, soaring into the artificial skies of the craftworld, quickly gaining the void and dodging through the capital-class ships of the Rethani forces, gathering there for their own, imminent departure.

Open Heart Gratitude Post

• When and how did I discover/read Open Heart for the first time?
This is a funny one. It was through one of those slapstick PB ads. I found it absolutely ridiculous but it intrigued me all the same. I had to check out what the hell it was if only for a good laugh. So I downloaded the choices app. I never thought I'd spend as much as I did on this damn app or else I never would've fallen for that trap lol.
• Why did I decide to read Open Heart and how long did it take to read everything?
Playing Open Heart was a no-brainer. First of all, there was a very hot doctor on the cover. A fine male specimen if I'm being honest to a fault and that was the main reason. Secondly, I'm a medical student myself so I found it especially interesting. The opening scene itself hooked me in, that famous thoracotomy! By the time I was getting Landry's book signed I was all take my money PB sknjjsahghjjkk.
• Which Book is my favourite and why?
Open Heart Book 1 of course. No explanation necessary.
• Which scene is my favourite and why?
That kiss in Miami with Ethan is everything! It is my absolute favourite and always will be. I freaking love it. It was so sensual and hot, so deep, emotional and intense. I mean if you are a reader and Ethan romancer, you'd know what I mean. It was worth all the 10 chapters of wait and fictional celibacy. I could swoon!
• Which is my favourite dialogue and why?
I love every dialogue by Ethan in Book 1 and some in Book 2. I could frame them and put them up on my walls. Book 3 Ethan or as very aptly named by the genius @jamespotterthefirst, Rethan I'm not a fan of but I do love his non-diamond love confession at the end of it. It was so touching and poetic.
If I had to pick a favourite though, it'd be when Ethan announces the fellowship competition in Book 1 Chapter 4 and MC approaches him asking why he did that when he thought they weren't ready and he says.. "Are any of us ever really ready for anything?"
That one just stabbed me right in the heart and made me realize that sometimes we just gotta take the plunge and do it even if we don't feel ready enough. We gotta step out of our comfort zones to truly discover what we're capable of. So yeah, that.
• Which event/happening is my favourite and why?
Ah, the Miami conference is my favourite event cause it's the first time Ethan's 'dam breaks' and truly kick starts Ethan and MC's relationship journey.
• Which LI is my favourite and why?
Yet another no-brainer. Ethan Jonah Ramsey.
First of all, he's obviously too hot for his own good okay? Secondly the fact that he's so wise, principled and intelligent just tingles my lady parts eventhough he's just a pixilated man. I'm a sapiosexual and have a thing for slightly older men who are grumpy af and secretly have a heart of gold. Throw piercing blue eyes into that equation and I'm a goner.
P.S.- I was only talking about Book 1 Ethan here. Book 3 Ethan is a clone I want nothing to do with and refuse to even acknowledge.
• Which non-LI character is my favourite and why?
I'm currently obsessed with Tobias Carrick. I am even working on a Tobias×OC series right now.
I always liked him and thought he isn't a bad guy even before he saves MC in chapter 11. And he is the best thing about Book 3. He's funny intelligent and sweet (I told you, Sapiosexual). I feel he deserved more scenes and a happy ending of his own. I very well plan on giving it to him. My MC is all in with Ethan and I am too sensitive for love triangles and/or cheating so he's getting an OC of his own. But all in good time.
• What are my other favourite characters and why?
I love Bryce. He's also extremely hot and extremely smart and sweet. I know he's an LI so this is probably cheating but I don't romance him and just really wanted to talk about him. He's the best friend and probably the better boyfriend too seeing as Ethan is unavailable for most of the Book. But I love angsty slow burns so I had a thing for Ethan from the get go. I always flirted with Bryce all the time but never kissed him. I hate that I had to friendzone him. It's unfair the no. of amazing LIs in this book.
And I love sweet Sienna a lot too. She's a wholesome lovely person and the best friend. Also, she's a baker, much like me. I am also a firm believer in bake therapy. My Instagram highlights are full of baking stories for which I receive curses and death threats from my friends often cause they get to see but almost never get to eat skjjhjkskakk.
This section is incomplete without mentioning Naveen Banerji. He's the epitome of wise and old. So sweet and funny, so talented and understanding. I absolutely love him.
• A memory associated with OH that makes me smile.
Anything about Open Heart, I encounter in real life makes me smile. It's the tiniest insignificant things too. I love this series.
• What is the best thing this series has given me?
I got into writing because of this series. Writing is now as therapeutic as baking for me. It helps me de-stress and keep myself sane. Sometimes though, I overthink and sabotage myself by taking too much pressure but overall that's the best thing Open Heart has given me apart from the amazing characters, life lessons and a memorable story. Also, it's easier to remember medical facts that come up in Open Heart so it has also sorta helped me academically lol.

was thinking of doing a durge AU run with rethan bc they already are an assassin to begin with and it would honestly fit but then i thought about how the only trust they had left was in themself and as durge they would lose even that. which would honestly fuel their self-hatred to a level where they would never let themself imagine a positive future which means they would never end up with gale which. uurrhhrghhhhh taking psychic damage thinking about it
