general

4. what sort of general actions raise or lower their approval?

generally picking well-mannered dialogues as well as de-escalating conflicts/talking your way out of fights & being self-preserving will raise her approval ! zofeia will disapprove of stopping to help everyone, taking needless risks, and doing anything to involve yourself with or cross devils (entertaining raphael's deal, stopping wyll from killing karlach, being rude to mizora).

10. are there any unique npcs associated with your tav that can show up during the course of the game?

in act three, both a servant from her former home as well as her father can be encountered ! if you allow her to take the necromancy of thay and progress the quest fully, you will also be able to interact with her dead sister's ghost (which is essential to a sub-plot of her companion quest: letting her sister finally move on and find peace).

romance

5. does the romance have different branching paths, or just one route to take?

the difference isn't really noticeable until the very end of her romance and after the completion of her companion quest. if her lust for power has been encouraged, she essentially takes his place and becomes an equally brutal, even more corrupt and iron-fisted judge (<- nepo baby). if not, she finds herself at a loss for what to do with herself, but will happily face the future if the player character is with her.

6. Who will they take advice from, no matter what it is? Who won’t they take advice from, no matter what it is?

Ooh, I think El would take advice from Tina no matter what it is. Tina is her first best friend in life and she trusts her completely. She is like her sister and for the most part, Tina is always helpful in her advice!! The two aren't best friends in the sense of being inseparable, but more so like having each others' backs and having *the* most respect for one another.

Elodie will never, evvvvver take advice from Bobby LOL. Anything that walking trash can says is in one ear out the other

22. Do they like being called pet names? Do they call other people pet names? What’s their go-to?

Elodie never thought she'd like pet names until she met Adam. She loves the classic "my love, my everything" yknow, causal stuff, lmfao. She's not a huge fan of anything too cheesy, more romantic and names that have depth to them. She also likes to use the occasional "baby" when she's alone with Adam ♥‿♥

27. Forgiveness or vengeance (or…)?

Elodie has done a lot of healing work, so if you had asked her 5 years ago she'd be big on revenge and grudges. But she wants to be happy and not weighed down by her past, so she's big on forgiveness and just, letting things go now. (Though if someone hurt someone she love, eeeehhhhh not sure she'd be so forgiving lol)

general — i've answered nine over here! c:

7. do they have their own personal quest that spans the course of the game? can it take different branching paths depending on the choices the player character makes?

yes! i haven't ironed this one out as much as i have zofeia's, but elarys' quest involves the shadow curse, myrkul, learning about her biological parents abandoning her, and her patron. she's a shadow magic sorcerer/great old one warlock multiclass, so the act two stretch of her quest would involve learning that she has these powers due to being a creation of the shadow curse. she starts out as neutral evil, but depending on player choices, her relationship/approval with the player character, and the ending of her quest, she may end as more lawful or chaotic.

story specific

6. will they stay with the player character regardless of siding with the goblins or the tieflings, or is it possible for them to leave the party permanently?

i elaborated a bit more here, but if you side with the tieflings elarys will leave permanently ! it bothers me that there aren't more immediate repercussions to taking the "good" route in act one, so this is how i'm amending that.

12. is it possible for your tav to be kidnapped and replaced by orin? how is orin's deception revealed? how do they react to the pc rescuing them in the temple of bhaal?

yes: orin's deception is revealed in a cutscene through "elarys" and her patron (as an aside: these two are a package deal from the moment she's recruited, but he can't tag along as a companion) having a rather nasty argument. her patron will accuse her of being "other" than herself, while "elarys" will insist that he is the shape-changer. the player can pass a perception check, which will reveal that something is off about "elarys". if the check is passed, orin will turn away and reveal herself. if it is failed, this will still happen, but she will attack and injure (but not kill) elarys' patron before he escapes (he will be back in camp after the cutscene).

once rescued from the temple, elarys will not verbally thank the player when spoken to, but the narrator will reveal that she seems grateful and relieved, which is as good as you're going to get from her. once back in camp, interacting with her or her patron will start a scene where she's fussing over him and he's trying to swat her away.

he's immune to getting flustered by sexual things but give them some flowers and say they have a pretty smile and he turns purple

🧸 : Into public displays of affection or are they more reserved?

they're not really the type to hold hands and give little kisses all the time but he's also not reserved at all. during hangouts they have no issue just sitting in someone's lap or vice versa and being very touchy or just flat out saying stuff like "let's go babe im horny" which obviously comes off as more sexual than romantic but it's romantic in his perspective lmao

OK I'M UNHINGED NOW

IS GALE KARSUS OR JUST A SELF-AWARE PARALLEL?????? we saw his character description got changed to something resembling karsus's story.

failing to usurp mystra's godhood???? because this is dnd, it's totally possible that karsus (whose soul was bound to that giant boulder) found a way to escape/free himself. or maybe gale is a version of karsus -- a piece of his soul, or a clone, or something to that effect. my point being that it's dnd so anything is possible -- and if larian thought it would be more compelling to have karsus himself than a foil for him, well, i'm sure they could do it.

either way gale was cursed with a NETHERESE ORB in his chest. we know there's netherese magic going on with the tadpoles.

there's also this underwater submarine type tech?

and the updated map shown off in the panel from hell showed some kind of structure underwater (seemingly) in the bay of baldur's gate that we'll be going to.....

AND I KNOW THIS IS PROBABLY A LONG SHOT. but what if it's actually.... netherese ruins??? because back during the days of the netherese empire, they actually had created not just flying cities, but "crystal-domed underwater colonies," mostly in the sea of fallen stars.

so, the sea of fallen stars is not the same thing as a bay on the chionthar river. BUT. what if they were mostly in the sea of fallen stars, or what if when netheril was falling (due to karsus's folly and/or the attacks by the phaerimm) they teleported/moved some of the cities elsewhere to keep them safe? OR what if we really go to the sea of fallen stars during the game and it was just placed in the bay on the map for convenience??? i know that's big spitballing hours and i don't actually know forgotten realms lore very well so there might be a really obvious clue i'm missing here BUT!!!

i just find all this emphasis on netherese magic (and gale's obvious parallel) to karsus very interesting. is he the conrad verner of karsus and just wanted to imitate everything he did? that would be kinda weird, right?? especially if he tried to do it AFTER karsus failed so abysmally. that's about a million times worse than just being karsus himself lol.

(my truest tinfoil hat theory is that gale has some kind of connection to shar. not worshipping her i don't think but maybe like... accomplices both trying to play each other??? this one is giving true 'i have lost the thread' energy but the whole enmity between shar and mystra, and shar wanting to steal mystra's powers and possibly recreate the shadow weave yadda yadda... there's something that could be there)

BUT ANYWAY. what if we have to go to ancient netherese ruins to get something for gale's condition, or for the tadpole magic, or... i don't know but i am fascinated!!!

do y'all have any theories about any of this?? gale, netheril, the underwater part, etc?
