Fic-O-Ween day 3!
This is mostly dialogue and chaos but it’s fun dialogue and chaos.
A Potter family trip to the apple orchard wasn't complete without Uncle Padfoot and Loops, and therefore Jules. And also Dumo and his kids, including Logan and his boys. And one of their brothers and his two. And Thomas.
So a trip that was meant to be three became eighteen, and Lily couldn't find it in herself to care. This was her family and she couldn't be happier. The boys were busy chasing the kids and lifting them up so they could reach the tops of the trees. Pascal was picking apples to bring home to Celeste so she could make a pie. James, Sirius, and Remus were busy keeping both Harry and Jules busy, which was far too endearing.
Adele had been practically glued to her and Natalie all day, and honestly, it was making Lily think about more children.
"Corn maze! Corn maze! Corn maze!" Katie shrieked, running to her father.
It was the only thing she'd wanted to do, after seeing the ponies.
"Sirius said it's time!"
Pascal, and everyone else, looked to where Sirius was biting back a grin, while also hanging Harry half over his shoulder. Remus, Lily noted, had never looked so fond.
"Did he?"
"I've told you before I can't say no to her, Dumo, it's your fault," Sirius said, placing Harry back on his feet.
Harry had started chanting with Katie, Marc and Louis joined in, and then Jules.
"Alright, alright, to the corn maze children."
Remus didn't know that a corn maze was meant to be a competition, but according to the O'Hara brothers, it meant war. This was how Remus found himself on a team with eight others. While it made sense to split into groups, as eighteen people trying to go through a maze would be chaos, he wasn't sure about the competition part of it.
There was only one way to go, so wouldn't they just keep running into each other?
"Loops, that's the point! Where's the fun without a bit of trash talk?" Finn told him after Remus said as much.
"There's kids here, O'Hara," Natalie commented.
"So we keep it PG, and we do the little scavenger hunt. That's where the real fun is."
Remus was a little disappointed that his own brother hadn't wanted to be on his team, or his boyfriend. But the O'Haras and Dumais children had reminded him that sibling rivalry was as good a motivator as any.
"Wait I think we should go that way," Lily said, pointing to the path towards the left.
Finn stopped next to her, "it's definitely to the right. You always go to the right."
"And that is how you lose, little bro," Alex said, walking past with his own team behind him. They went to the left
"Shut up, you idiot," Finn said back. Remus heard Logan laugh from where he was walking past, and Leo snicker from behind him.
"Yo, Harz, don't talk to my man like that," Kasey said, reaching forward to grab Alex's hand.
Natalie jumped in, "yeah, don't talk to our man like that."
"We're on the same team, Nat," Finn said back.
"I don't care."
This was already far too much, and they hadn't even gotten into the maze.
Remus had been hoping, secretly, that he would have been able to sneak off with Sirius and get some of the hot cider that was being sold. Sirius, however, seemed to be too far gone to pull him away from this.
"How does it feel to be on the losing team, Re?" He said, walking past.
"Yeah, Re?" Julian parroted.
Remus there his hands up and let them fall back with a slap against his thighs.
James and Pascal both laughed at him. Thomas jostled his shoulder and snickered.
Alex wouldn't admit it, but they were definitely lost. The goal had been to get to the closest checkpoint, but well, he was fairly certain it was supposed to be right where they were standing.
"Alex..."
Alex looked at Kasey slowly, who was obviously holding back a laugh.
"I have no idea where we are."
"What?" Three voices echoed. Logan, James, Sirius.
It was almost comical, the way their heads turned to him, and each of the children's that followed. Harry was on James shoulders, an action mirrored by Katie and Logan. Julian was on Sirius' back, but dropped down to pull out his own map. Marc went over to look at it with him.
"I joined your team because you said you always won, don't tell me I left my lovers just to lose," Logan said, leaning over to look at the map in Alex's hands.
"We're not losing. We don't know how to lose," Sirius said.
"What Cap said," James announced, using Harry's little finger to trace a path on their map.
Marc and Jules walked past all of them, drawing their attention, "this way," Marc said. So they went.
Lily was going to rip that red hair right out of Finn O'Hara's big head.
"Are you blind?"
"He does use reading glasses," Leo called from the back of the group.
"Baby we're on the same team," Finn turned to him. "I told you though, always go right."
"O'Hara, if we go left it takes us straight to the third checkpoint."
Thank god for Natalie Darcy, at least someone could see some sense. Adele agreed with them too, though that was likely more to just agree than anything.
They'd already got to the first two checkpoints, punching out the little numbers on their card, and reading the little story for Louis, who didn't actually seem that interested. Granted he was ten, but he was the only child with them. Except for Adele, who definitely wouldn't admit she found it fun.
At every turn they had a debate, and every time Finn said to go right, and he was only correct half of those times.
Remus and Thomas were making jokes each time, Leo and Pascal were trailing at the back of the group, and Louis was playing on his father's phone.
And yet, Lily loved it. Every minute of it.
Sirius wouldn't admit it, but there was no possible way they were winning. They'd been in this maze for nearly fifteen minutes and hadn't checked any of the boxes. The kids were beginning to whine, and they were staring at a wall of corn.
"You said this way, little Dumo," Kasey said to Marc, who just shrugged.
"Alright team, I'll be honest. We kind of suck, so any ideas?" Alex said.
Sirius huffed, "that was a shit pep-talk O'Hara."
"Kids, Padfoot, seriously," James said, hands over Harry's ears.
"Not all of us can be the youngest captain, Black," Alex turned to him, "feel free to help out any time."
"Actually, I think you've got it O'Hara. Never been so inspired in my life," Sirius said, falling back next to Logan. He'd never done a corn maze before, and honestly was losing the appeal of it quickly.
"I feel like this would be more fun with alcohol."
"You are absolutely right, T," Remus replied.
"As if we don't have enough entertainment from the redheads up there," Leo said from behind them.
Finn and Lily had both declared themselves team leaders it seemed, which had definitely become the chaos Remus had imagined.
They were over halfway through the maze, and making pretty good time. Though, that was likely more to do with the fact the Finn was practically running. Well, that, and the fact that it wasn't really Lily or Finn leading them, it was Leo and Pascal.
Each time the group at the front disagreed, Leo or Pascal became the voice of reason. It was usually a quick, "alright, this way." Or, "I'm going this way, follow or don't."
Remus was also pretty sure he'd heard them betting against their own team. Really, Remus agreed with them. But there was also a part of him determined to beat Sirius and Julian.
They were on track again, had even completed two of the ten checkpoints. Though, it had already been more than twenty minutes, so they weren't really on track. Kasey had taken over for most of that, his calm helping them.
Now though...
Alex was struggling to keep calm himself.
There was three ways they could go, and everyone was talking at once.
"Left. I say left." Logan was looking wistfully down the pathway.
"No, Tremzy!" Katie yelled.
Jules and Marc were talking to each other at the back of the group, momentarily forgetting about the maze.
"Pretty confident it's straight," Kasey said.
"You're certainly not," Sirius chirped.
"Like you can talk, Black," Alex responded.
"None of us are," Logan quipped.
James spluttered, "are you forgetting about me?” His hands splayed in front of him, child giggling on his shoulders.
The other four men looked at each other, then said together, "no."
James squinted at all of them, shrugged, then stepped forward into the middle path. Straight it was then.
Finn was going to win one way or the other, and he would absolutely not admit that it was because of Lily Evans-Potter. Maybe she was right, so what? He'd never said he was good at corn mazes or following directions. And the other guys certainly were no help. He was fairly certain Leo had bet against him.
But, on the bright side, all there was left to do now was get out. After one small stop.
"We have to find them," he announced.
"What, why?" Lily responded immediately.
"To scare them."
"Oh!" Natalie's face lit up as she said it.
"Now this I can get behind," Thomas announced.
"I'm in," Remus said.
"Can I scare Marc?" Adele asked.
"No I want to scare Marc!" Louis said, actually looking away from the game he was playing.
"Cool, let's go."
Yeah, they were definitely losing. There was no possible way this team was getting anywhere. The kids had started complaining early on, and it was beginning to become sad. Sirius had already taken off his jacket and hoodie, the sun bright and no breeze to cool them. They'd gotten maybe five of the checkpoints, Sirius wasn't sure, he'd stopped caring long ago.
He was carrying Harry now, James' shoulder had started acting up again, and frankly, he needed some entertainment. His eyes flitted between Jules and Marc and the path they were walking down.
It wasn't all that bad, though. He hadn't had time to just be since summer, and he was doing it with all of his people. Of course, half of them were somewhere else in this godforsaken trap, but they were still here.
This was nice, and even if the kids weren't enjoying it anymore, at least he got to spend time with them.
"Hey Jules, what are we going to tell Remus when we get out?" He said over his shoulder.
There wasn't an answer, se he glanced back, "Jules?"
Except Jules wasn't there, and neither was Marc. Sirius' heart dropped, his hands got just a little tighter around Harry's. "Jules? Marc?"
The others stopped where they were in front of him, James walked over.
"Sirius?"
"They were just right behind me," he whispered.
There was an uneasy silence that followed, as Sirius scanned the area.
"Maybe they just went down a different path..." it was Logan.
No, that wasn't right. Neither of the boys would do that, not without saying something. Had he missed it?
"They wouldn't—”
"AHHH!!"
There were shouts all around them, bodies running out of the corn. There was Jules, right next to a laughing Remus. And Marc with his own family. Despite being startled, Sirius was relieved.
Then, all at once, the other team took off in a full sprint away from them, leaving Sirius' own team shaken.
Slowly, after realizing what had gone down, and ignoring Marc and Jules laughing on the ground, they looked to Alex O'Hara.
His head tipped back and he groaned, then said, "oh thank god."
Again, they all looked at one another. Kasey spoke up, "babe?"
"They've finished it. We can get out of this fu-- freaking corn."
A collective sigh went up, and they turned on their heel and walked the same direction the others ran.
Lily hadn't laughed this hard in a long time. Her, Natalie, and Adele were still giggling together when the others came out of the maze.
Alex went over to Finn, putting him into a headlock and rubbing his head, "finally beat me, little man."
"Get off me," Finn yelped, grabbing for Leo. Logan was laughing as he went over to them.
Kasey pulled Natalie into a kiss, which made Adele grimace. Alex shouted for them, which made them both smile.
Pascal gathered his children up, insisting they take a selfie for their mother. Adele rolled her eyes but was still the one to hold up the phone.
Thomas and Remus were still talking together when Sirius walked over.
"You've had my boyfriend long enough, T, time to get your own."
Thomas mocked offense, and Remus grinned, "how does it feel to be on the losing team, baby?"
When Sirius scowled Remus pulled him down for a kiss.
"Little Loops, how does it feel knowing you almost made the Captain cry?" Thomas said.
"That's not fair, T, he was worried."
They were laughing together, in their little group.
James came over, Harry holding his hand and smiling at Lily.
"Hi Mama!"
"Hi baby," she knelt to pick him up. Then leaned in and kissed her husband, "beat you."
"No, I'm definitely winning," he kissed her again, again, again.
There was laughter around them, and love surrounding their little group, which was certainly not so little. She's never been happier to have such a big family.

#35 for O’Darwin?
How do they deal with being away from each other for a long time?
Lots of FT calls, but they also have a sort of package exchange going on, constantly sending each other little gifts--baked cookies, each other's clothing, new clothing that they saw and thought of the other one. There's nothing better than one of them coming home to see a package from the others with their name on it! Nat is working on arranging and framing all of the notes they've sent back and forth so far.

piggy back rides for o’darwin? (my mind says Nat on Alex but my heart says Alex on Kasey)
O'Darwin!! Woo! There is so much potential with them, I just love it. TW for passing mention of alcohol, no drunkenness.
"Hello, boys," Natalie said with a wry smile as Alex stumbled through the door, panting slightly. "Good night?"
Alex paused to catch his breath before toeing his shoes off. "You are so--so--lucky you have me, Winter."
"Mhmm." Kasey's limp hand came up to pat him on the collarbone, though the rest of him remained a deadweight on Alex's back. "So lucky."
"Should I get the aspirin?" Natalie laughed, setting her book aside. 3:35 a.m; it must have been a good night.
"For me? Yes." Alex hoisted Kasey up higher before dumping him unceremoniously on the couch, ignoring the groan it earned him. "For Mr. I-Have-The-Bedtime-Of-A-Toddler? No."
Natalie stood with a stretch and a yawn, crossing the room to fall against Alex's broad chest and kiss the hinge of his jaw. He smelled like sweat, but not alcohol. Come to think of it, she couldn't smell any beer at all, and the two of them had such high metabolisms they usually reeked of it after a night with the guys. "How much did you drink?"
Alex shook his head as he folded her into his arms. "Like, two cocktails, six hours ago. This one is stone-cold fucking sober, if you can believe it."
"I'm tired," Kasey said into the couch armrest. "Fuck you."
"He does get cranky past his bedtime," Natalie agreed around her grin as she leaned up for a proper kiss. Alex rolled his eyes with an affectionate glance toward the lump of goalie on their couch. "Thanks for carrying him, Hercules."
That perked Alex up--his cheeks flushed a little, chest puffing out with pride. "Gonna help me wrestle that monstrous beast into bed where he belongs, Aphrodite?"

o'darwin ballroom dance au thoughts for you all cause i was at competition all weekend and then had a 6 hour car ride home
(basic ballroom info can be found at the end under the cut)
the three of them are all partners together and just switch out depending on the style. nat and alex do rhythm and latin, nat and kasey do standard, and alex and kasey do smooth. but if 3-person ballroom was a thing they'd be excellent at it (a side note - competitions do fun dances after each style and our last one was group latin, so my 3 coaches did it together and gave me this idea cause it was adorable) (want to be clear coaches are platonic friends this specifically was just very o'darwin coded)
alex styles his hair very casually, basically just the way it falls normally but aggressively hair sprayed into place. kasey slicks his back into a neat bun. kasey does nat’s hair for her, pulling it back in a twist back into a fancy ballroom bun with lil sparklies to accessorize
my former coach’s partner has a smooth jacket that’s - well idk if it’s actually velvet cause that’d be quite heavy for dance - but a velvet like texture and it’s subtly shiny under the lights and i imagine alex wearing that for smooth. paired with kasey, in something classic but maybe with some subtle detailing? rip
nat’s latin dress is black with gold detailing. the skirt is a high to low style and it’s super cute and bouncy. her standard dress is long and i wanna go royal blue. maybe red. or green. some bright royal shade. it’s got this beautiful full skirt and she has ribbons on cuffs she attaches to her wrists for certain dances. the dress has silver gemstone detailing on the bodice
they stay in a hotel for competitions and share soft sleepy kisses in the elevator up on the way back, heavy bags hanging off their shoulders. alex insists on carrying nat’s costumes for her (he’d carry her bag too but he doesn’t have enough arms for that)
cheering each other on from the sidelines and the two dancing always smile at their third when they hear/spot them
social dancing and nat is laughing while kasey twirls her all around, alex watching from the side, falling more in love with each laugh and smile from the two of them
falling into bed with each other, all soft hands and quiet giggles. they have passionate and rougher times too but in my head o’darwin are just so somft with each other. alex carefully taking nat’s shirt off and kissing each inch of bare skin he uncovers. kasey standing behind her with gentle hands on her hips, nosing at her neck. alex and kasey taking turns fucking nat and it’s different with both but just as good. alex getting his mouth on kasey and reveling in the sounds he makes
nat steals alex's sweatpants constantly. they fit better than kasey's so she steals his sweatshirts instead. kasey and nat steal each other's hair elastics, one of them always has one on hand
the three of them aren't like all over each other at competition, looking at them you might not guess they were romantically together rather than just dance partners, but you can tell they have a connection with each other through their dancing and know each other well. when partners actually like and know each other it shows and makes it that much better to watch. but if you paid close enough attention (not sure why anyone would but) you'd be able to see the quick kisses and gentle intimate moments between the three of them between rounds
now i'd put them in open, so they wouldn't have to wake up at the crack of dawn like us poor syllabus dancers (rip me), but if they were partners back then:
bb college alex and kasey partnering together kasey's first year (i put alex maybe a year older), and falling for each other towards the end of the year semester. they're never together, not really, but they've kissed and had sex and are close despite the complication of whatever it is their feelings are. kasey transfers schools after his freshman year and they're both devastated but they can't do a whole lot about it. they promise to keep in touch, but it's hard
at his new school, kase meets and partners up with natalie who's a freshman and new to ballroom. he's so shy and awkward around her at first, but he's patient and helps her learn. soon they become good friends and kasey gets less awkward. kasey is terrified to let himself fall for her after falling for alex, but he can't help it; nat is just so bright and delightful, and he finds himself spending hours outside of practice with her, just enjoying each other's company. nat - i don't wanna say wears him down cause that implies she pressured him, it's more she makes her own feelings known, respects his boundaries, and lets kasey sort his own feelings out on his time. together, they eventually decide to start dating, after kasey allows nat to kiss him late one night, saying he just wants to know, but really he's just too scared to say it outright. natalie is the one who asks if he'll be her official boyfriend. he agrees
anyway. back to 5am wake up times. comp starts at 8am, doors open at 7, and if you're in the first few rounds like they would be, that's when you arrive, hair and makeup already mostly ready if you can. nat and kasey staying together for their first competition and it's the first night they've spent together. they're bleary-eyed and exhausted, still new to their relationship, but there's sleepy kisses and gentle touches as they help each other get ready
they compete at bronze and do quite well, especially for natalie's first ever comp. i made my dear newcomer partner dance up to bronze because i've really danced too long to be in newcomer still, and she did great. anyway. it's a smaller comp, only one day. they don't place in anything, but they advance past the first round in every dance they compete, which is still very good
it's a long day for them both, but a fun one. a lot of time spent at ballroom competitions is standing around waiting for results. so there's a lot of that. they sit with the rest of their team ofc. it's a good bonding exercise
i have more thoughts but this is long enough as is so i'll stop for now cause it's nearly 2am and i really need to be asleep. i meant for this to just be headcanons and now it's gaining a plot. ah well
apologies if these don't make sense, i was awake for 20 hours straight sunday and wrote half of them in the car. i've been recovering since. also today i took a 2hr nap at 7pm and now here we are nearing 2am
ballroom basics for those who are very lost
ballroom is split into four styles for competitions:
standard: international waltz, intl tango, intl foxtrot, quickstep, intl viennese waltz
smooth: american waltz, am tango, am foxtrot, am v waltz
latin: intl cha cha, intl rumba, samba, jive, paso doble
rhythm: am cha cha, am rumba, east coast swing, mambo, bolero
in the international dances, you aren't allowed to separate from your partner. you stay in frame - hands clasped basically - the whole time. in american style, you are allowed to separate. there's other differences to some, but that's the major one. rumba, foxtrot, and tango are the ones that are most different.
collegiate competitions have two levels: syllabus and open
syllabus: there's a specific list of moves you are allowed to do at each level. the levels go newcomer, bronze, silver, gold.
open: you can basically do what you want. there are no specific guidelines to the steps you can do. within reason, i mean, you can't just start doing an entirely separate dance. this is when it gets really fun to watch. the levels go novice, pre-champ, champ.
some competitions will let you cross-register, which basically means you can compete at multiple levels. many also compete different styles at different levels, allowed at all competitions, because learning that many dances well is quite difficult and takes a lot of time.
after newcomer dances will start being paired. so if you compete one, you must compete the other. common ones at bronze are intl waltz/quickstep, am waltz/tango, and cha cha/rumba. those were all paired at my competition this past weekend. starting in gold, they'll put three or four dances paired. at open, all dances are paired. so for example, a standard event in all open levels would include intl waltz, tango, foxtrot, and quickstep. each couple would have to dance all four. then separately they would have a syllabus v waltz event, which is open to anyone.
though hosted and mostly attended by college teams, anyone is allowed to enter a collegiate competition. once you get to the higher levels, especially open, most dancers are not still college students. you can't get that good in four years, so if they are college-age they would've had to start beforehand. those who don't register with a team are generally just put in as unaffiliated. schools are registered under the school. coaches can register through the school they coach for as well, if they register together. my coaches have done both. this doesn't really make a difference. mostly just a way of organization more than anything. we still claim my former coach as our own despite her now living and working in a different state and coaching a different team with her partner. we don't like him. i digress.
i hope this helped anyone if you bothered to read it

Kasey & Alex
Right, so, as you might notice this is a very different style than my normal stuff and that’s because I’ve been doing a lot of comic prep work recently. There are some comics I want to make that would be actual torture if I didn’t make another (much simpler) art style. Anyway, I think these boys are cute and this is a lot quicker cause I can just forget everything I know about anatomy. And lmk if y’all dig it cause along with the normal stuff this could be fun for some requests?? Idk
Character credit @lumosinlove !!!

One Surprise with Multiple Smiles

CW: long distance relationships
It’s common knowledge that long distance relationships suck. Now matter who you are or how far apart you are being away from a lover is one of the worst things someone can experience.
They missed each other, Natalie, Kasey and Alex. They missed having the other person there—or people in Alex’s case. The long nights together, the cuddles, the kisses, the movie nights where they really didn’t get to watch the movie because Kasey would ask to many questions, they missed everything. Sure, they would call and FaceTime whenever they could, though long nights through a phone were never the same. And with Natalie, Kasey and Alex not being your average long distance couple— two of them being professional hockey players— free time was rare, let alone time to plan a whole trip to surprise your boyfriend. But hey, they had done it. They’d managed to find enough time in their busy schedules and here they were; Kasey and Natalie, getting off a plane in sunny Tampa, Florida.
Well, more like getting in a car. They’d got off the plane a while ago.
“And you’re sure he’ll be home?” Kasey was giddy with the excitement of soon being able to hold his boyfriend in his arms again after weeks apart. He would never admit it out loud but he was nervous too; Alex didn’t know they were here— and yes that’s the entire point of a surprise but what if he had plans or something? Kasey knew deep down even if he did he’d cancel anything for the two of them, but still, nerves do funny things to you— He didn’t have to admit it though, Nat could tell just by how he had asked that question five times in the last hour.
She put a comforting had on his thigh, “Yes Kase, he’ll be home. And no, he doesn’t have plans.” Natalie answered his next question before it was even out of his mouth, Kasey always wondered how she was able to do that.
“You were talking to Harzy?”
Natalie nodded, “I was taking to Finn. He made sure that Alex had nothing to do today. Everything is going to go to plan.” She leaned forward in her seat to tell the driver where they needed to go then leaned back into her boyfriend, resting her head on his shoulder and linking their fingers together. She sighed softly as the whole side of her body enveloped in the warmth that was that was Kasey. She couldn’t wait to have that same but ever so different warmth on her other side.
“Okay.” Natalie breathed out. In front of the two of them was the door to Alex’s apartment. He was right there, the only thing separating them a couple of walls. “Ready?” She asked Kasey, who stood behind her.
Kasey nodded and Natalie knocked on the door.
They heard a couple muffled sounds. A “be right there!” and then a thump that was followed by a curse— knowing Alex he’d probably stubbed his toe on the way to the door.
The door started opening. “Yeah, someone just knocked on the door just give me a sec—“ Alex words got caught in his throat.
There he was, standing before them, wide eyed and still as beautiful as ever. His worn lightning’s sweatshirt, the one he only wore on off days, rolled up to his elbows. His hair, that was getting out of hand and in desperate need of a cut, falling into his eyes. His phone was pressed to his ear, “Finn... can I call you back?” Without waiting for a response Alex hung up the phone and slowly put it in his sweatpants pocket.
After opening and closing his mouth a couple times, trying to think of what to say, Natalie couldn’t wait any longer. She dropped her bags and all but knocked her boyfriend down. Jumping into his arms, wrapping her legs around his waist and draping her arms on his shoulders, immediately capturing his lips in a kiss. Though it wasn’t really a kiss since both were smiling way to much for that. “Surprise.” Natalie whispered against a chuckling Alex’s lips.
“What are you doing here?!” Alex managed to get out in his speechless state.
“Why we came to cheer you on in that game you have on Monday of course.” Kasey had entered the apartment, he’d picked up Natalie’s bags and placed both hers and his on the floor before closing the door and walking over to them. “Hi baby.” Kasey said to Alex and kissed him.
“Wait,” Alex mumbled, Kasey pulled away slightly. “Your staying until Monday?!”
“We’re staying until Wednesday.” Kasey smirked.
Alex looked between his lovers like he was going to cry. “Gods I missed you both.”
“We missed you too, Alex. So much.” Natalie smiled softly but it disappeared as fast as it had appeared, “Now, are we going to keep standing in this hallway or can we cuddle on the couch?” She teased.
Kasey scoffed, “You can’t say much, you’re not even standing!” He gestured to how she was still wrapped around Alex. Natalie narrowed her eyes at him.
“Alright, alright that’s enough,” Alex laughed. “We can go cuddle.” He put Natalie down and went for the couch before stopping in his tracks. He turned back around to face the other two and said, “It all makes sense now.”
“What makes sense?” Kasey asked, confused.
“Finn has talked to me more today than he has in the past two weeks, he was trying to distract me and make sure I didn’t go anywhere so that you two,” he pointed between Natalie and Kasey. “Could surprise me.”
The two in question shared a look. “Maybe?” Natalie said. “We had to keep you here somehow!”
Alex shook his head and laughed. “Well your little plan worked.” They had reached to couch now. Alex lay down first and opened his arms for Kasey to join him, he did, immediately burrowing his face in Alex’s neck and sighing contently, ready not to move for the next couple hours. Natalie was next, flipping down on top of both boys and wedging herself perfectly between the wall of the couch and kasey’s body.
If Alex’s face was starting to hurt from smiling he didn’t care, he’d smile forever if these to were the ones causing it. “And I’m glad it did.”

Short O’darwin blurb
“Hey.” Finn, Leo, and Logan nodded as Kasey and Natalie walked into the messy apartment.
“Wow you would think three idiotic boys live here.” Natalie looked around.
“Two idiotic boys.” Leo corrected. “I’ve just given up trying to keep it clean at this point.”
“Gotcha.” She clicked her tongue as her and Kasey settled into a cuddle on the couch. The boys tangled together on the other side.
“What are we watching tonight?” Kasey asked. The couples had a movie night every few weeks but Lily, James, Sirius, and Remus couldn’t make it this week.
“We were thinking Spider-Man.” Finn said before shoving a handful of popcorn into his mouth.
“You’re going to choke, sweetheart.” Leo told him.
“No I won’t.” He mumbled through the popcorn.
“Whatever you say.” Leo rolled his eyes.
“Which Spider-Man?” Natalie asked, offering Kasey a chip.
“Far From Home.” Logan said. “Zendaya and Tom Holland in the same movie. Perfection.”
“Agreed.” Natalie tipped her finger at him.
“Hey can we talk before you start the movie?” Kasey finally shut off his phone and sat up.
“Yeah what’s up?” Finn asked.
“You know how me and Alex played on the Rangers together and how we’re, like, pretty good friends?”
“Oh so we’re doing this right now? Cool.” Natalie sat up beside him.
“Yeah, what about it?” Finn asked. They had never seen Kasey this nervous.
“Okay, yeah, so um-”
“Jesus Christ. We’re dating him.” Natalie announced after 30 seconds of Kasey stalling.
“Wait, like, dating?” Finn asked.
“Yeah.” Kasey nodded.
“How long?”
“A few months.”
“We’re happy for you.” Logan smiled as Finn tried to process everything.
“Is gayness fucking genetic or some shit?” He finally spoke. “Oh, yeah I’m really happy for you guys. But like, tell him he’s a dumbass for not telling me. You guys too.”

“i’ll be damned if i don’t make you smile at least once today.”
O’Darwin 🥺❤️
“And there she is, Natalia Darcy.”
Natalie snorted as she threw her keys and bags down and looked over at Alex in the kitchen, wearing nothing but low-slung basketball shorts and a sunburn on his shoulders.
“That’s not my name,” she barely had time to say before Alex was scooping her in and against him by her waist and hand and moving them to the jazz coming through the speakers that Kasey had cursed to all hell while installing. “No, no, no, I’m so sweaty.”
“Yes, yes, yes.”
“Al, c’mon,” she laughed. “I’m sweaty and on my period and—”
“Then you need to dance even more,” Alex said. “Take your clothes off, we can dance naked.”
Natalie laughed harder. “What?”
“Hey,” Alex grinned, and Natalie could have spent all day kissing the crinkles at the corners of his eyes. “Got you to smile, though.”
Natalie relaxed into his chest at that, despite her sweaty hair and shirt sticking to her back. “Hm…”
She felt him press a kiss to her temple before she heard Kasey’s voice from behind her, coming out of the bedroom.
“And he’ll be damned if he doesn’t make you smile at least once every day.”

Eve, EVE. That was beautiful. I need time to process O’Darwin having their own babies. Also Grandpa Dumo????? My heart can’t take it
Okay SO I feel like O’Darwin would wait a while to have kids because Nat never really pictured herself as a mom until she had both Kasey and Alex, and then realized how much she wanted to take that step with them because she felt so safe. A bunch of the Lions start having kids around the same time (like, three within five years) and Grandpa Dumo is THRILLED

Sunrise, Sunset...
Yeah so this was all written at the end of January and then I forgot about it (twice) so now here you go. It was finished except for literally the last 3 lines because I hate endings (thank you Nina). But anyway. Have a cute lil O’Darwin get-together that will stay cute until I get my spicy braincells back and actually write the less-cute part two I have planned.
characters as always belong to the amazing @lumosinlove
Alex hadn’t seen Kasey in nearly two years when he invited him and Natalie to the Hamptons with him. Or, well, he’d seen him plenty. Visiting Finn over the years, visiting Kasey himself. But then Natalie had entered the picture and he found he couldn’t do it anymore. And so they hadn’t talked, properly, in nearly two years.
Because Natalie was light. She was a spark in the night sky, a firecracker waiting to explode. She was the harsh wind to Kasey’s calm seas, the bright sun to Alex’s muted dusk. Loving Kasey from afar had been bad enough. Watching him succeed on the Lions, watching him play with other people who weren’t him, become friends with people who weren’t him. Knowing he couldn’t just reach out and touch him the way he yearned to. But that was a familiar ache; loving Kasey from across the ice wasn’t any easier than loving him from across the country.
But he couldn’t love Natalie the way he did, not from Florida. Certainly not the way he loved Kasey. And so he stayed away, from both Kasey and Natalie, he strayed from phone calls and meetings in Gryffindor. Because he knew, he knew, that if he spent any more time with the two of them, he’d fall for Natalie too, and he didn’t know how to love them both from afar.
He invited them on a whim. He invited them because they’d had him over, and had let him fall asleep on the couch with the neighbor’s dog and teased him about it in the morning. Because he’d watched them kiss across the dinner table, had watched their quiet affection, and had wanted that for himself, too.
So he’d asked them, on a whim, because deep down he loved them and he missed them and he wanted to see their smiles for just a little bit longer. And they’d said yes, surprising him when it really shouldn’t have.
It was cool, out on the coast, especially so early in the summer. The wind blew, a light, constant presence, keeping the bugs and heat at bay. The three of them sat on the screen porch, their dinner dishes discarded on the small side table, listening to the breeze and the waves and watching the setting sun. Alex’s feet were sandy still from their walk earlier, the ocean sand sticking to his skin like sap.
Kasey muttered something, making Natalie laugh and pulling Alex from his daze.
“You good over there?” Kasey asked, his voice lilting and soft. He was nothing more than a dark figure to Alex’s tired eyes, curled up beside Natalie, the setting sun outlining them in shadow.
Alex yawned. “Just tired.”
Kasey watched him, with that careful, calculating gaze of his. It made Alex feel scrutinized, but oddly it didn’t bother him. Natalie was watching him too, a curious tilt to her head, brown eyes searching and light.
“You can go to bed, you know,” Kasey said finally, and Alex had to laugh.
“You know this is my house, right?”
Natalie laughed. “So?”
Alex just shook his head, grinning.
“Isn’t it technically your parents house?”
“Semantics.”
They lapsed into silence again, and Alex fought another yawn. He found himself watching Kasey and Natalie as they watched the horizon, studying them in the dim light. Kasey looked different, older. There were small lines by his eyes now, and his shoulders were a little broader. His blond hair hit at his chin, not yet cut from their play-off run. Alex had the same unfamiliar feeling in his chest as he did the night they’d had sex. Everything somehow new yet familiar.
He turned his gaze to Natalie next, her blonde hair lighter and longer than Kasey’s, her gold earrings glinting even in the dim light. She was soft around the edges, but sharp-witted and sarcastic, her humor matched with Alex’s and her gentleness matched with Kasey’s. He liked making her laugh. He wanted her. He wanted Kasey too.
“What’s with the face?” Kasey asked eventually, squinting at him.
“Nothing.”
“That’s your hockey face, evidently it’s something.”
Alex sighed internally. Damn Kasey Winter and his seemingly unending knowledge of Alex and his facial expressions. They weren’t sitting that close together, had a low table in the way, but still, Alex wanted to lean over and kiss him right there.
Something in him changed as he mulled over that, the idea of kissing him. Of kissing Natalie. He’d wanted Kasey for nearly a decade of his life. Wanting Natalie was a new ache, but somehow it didn’t hurt any less. But Alex found he was tired of wanting from afar. The two were sitting in his goddamn house, mere feet away.
Fuck it, Alex thought, and leaned across the table to kiss Kasey for the first time in almost six years.
Kasey reacted the way Alex remembered from all those years again, pulling him in immediately, strong yet pliant beneath him, lips soft. He opened his mouth to Alex, readily allowing him more access, and Alex had to brace a hand on the table so he didn’t fall. When he pulled away, both of them were breathing heavily and Natalie was watching them with careful eyes.
“Why,” Kasey murmured, the word barely even a question. Alex answered anyway.
“I miss you.”
Kasey kissed him again, softly, and Alex heard Natalie’s light gasp, felt the puff of air on his cheek. He turned, looking at her, the high flush on her cheeks, the golden flecks in her eyes. He reached out and trailed his fingers down her face, feeling the smooth skin there. She closed her eyes, leaning into his touch.
Alex stroked a thumb across Natalie’s cheek, and leaned in to kiss her for the very first time. It felt like a firework exploding in his chest, like pieces of a puzzle finally falling into place together. Natalie was coconut and sweetness, softer than Kasey but just as warm. It was different, and Alex couldn’t help but compare her to Kasey. But it wasn’t a bad thing, he mused, as Natalie’s hand slid into his hair and tugged him closer. No, it definitely wasn’t a bad thing.
Alex still had one hand tangled in Kasey’s hair, and so he felt the other man move, moments before he felt soft lips attach to his collarbone. Kasey bit at Alex’s neck softly, and Alex fought back a groan at the feeling, of Natalie still kissing him and Kasey mouthing at his skin, the two of them holding him in place. It was far too much and not nearly enough.
Far too soon, Natalie pulled away and looked at him, a knowing smile on her kissed-red lips. Kasey too was smiling at him, soft and sweet and perfect. Alex glanced between them and felt his heart swell. Finally, he thought.
