could i please have the mercs with an s/o who is a shapeshifter that can turn into nearly any form?
Mercs with an S/o who is a shapeshifter!
Scout
He's the one that has the biggest freak-out when he finds out about his S/o's abilities. He's not really scared but not very calm either.
Once he gets comfortable with it, he decides to see his S/o's limits by challenging them, but he learns his lesson pretty quickly.
"Bet you can't win against me in a race!" Scout challenged his S/o. he knew very well that his S/o could take different forms but he was still confident in his speed.
"I bet I can!" His S/o accepted the offer to a race, standing right by Scout to fairly start the run. they both got into position to start running.
"Alright 3, 2, 1, Go!" Scout counted before both of them sped off, beginning to run circles around the building.
It was basically neck and neck before his S/o started to run out of breath. In a desperate attempt to not fall behind, they transformed into a dog, the extra legs carrying them forward to catch up with Scout again. Only to grow tired after a few more circles.
As they watched Scout get ahead with a smug smile, they decided to go with the last ditch effort to change to a cheetah. they easily sped past Scout, getting a lap ahead of him. This continued until Scout stopped, panting.
"Wait- slow down..." He called out to his S/o before they could run past him again.
"Am I too fast for you?" His S/o asked in a sly tone.
"Yeah..." Scout answered, breathless.
Soldier
Genuinely thinks his S/o should replace Spy in terms of having someone who can change their appearance on the battlefield. His S/o has to convince him that they don't need to strip Spy of his job though he secretly considers it to be an open option.
He doesn't freak out about his S/o's abilities at all, which isn't too bad. It keeps him from overthinking if he just considers them to have the same abilities as Spy.
"Stand back sweetheart. That little bastard is unpredictable and can attack at any moment." Soldier said, putting his hands in front of his S/o and trying to protect them from the bread monster in front of them.
"It isn't that threatening to be honest." His S/o looked over his shoulder, catching a glimpse of the little creature.
"It fears nothing, it is a high level threat-" Soldier continued to rant before another bread monster appeared by his foot. It barked at the other, smaller one, making it scoot away.
Soldier got confused for a moment before realizing his S/o decided fight fire as fire. They ran after the other creature, chasing after it.
"Yeah!! Get him, cupcake!!! Show him who's boss!!" He cheered, running behind his S/o.
Pyro
They're amazed by their S/o's abilities and don't see it as a weird thing. Like, after the first time Pyro saw their S/o change form, they hugged them out of wonder and happiness.
Tea parties with his S/o are regular occurrences. It's fun for both of them to pretend random animals can drink tea while putting up their pinkie fingers and eat cookies.
"Hmm mph mmm hm mm hm?" Pyro asked their now red panda S/o, reaching out the kettle filled with pretend-tea.
"Oh yes, absolutely." Their S/o responded, playing into the act and putting on a posh accent. They reached out their cup closer to Pyro with their paws.
"Thank you, Pyro." Their S/o thanked them after having their cup filled with tea. They brought the cup to their lips, sipping the non-existing drink.
"This tea is amazing!" Their S/o said, complimenting them.
"Phm mm." Pyro mumbled.
"What is going on?" The Spy head that Pyro stole from Medic's fridge asked.
Demoman
Is completely obsessed with mythical creatures and cryptids so his S/o just brings his interest to a whole new level.
He's already dealt with the Loch Ness monster, wizards, his haunted eye and other weird stuff. And the fact that he can get so close to his S/o without getting killed makes him just sit while mesmerized by them.
Sometimes, Demoman can't help himself but ask for them to transform into something specific, just to see how they would look like and see the transformation over and over.
"Can ye be a hamster?" He asked his S/o, smiling and holding his head in his hands.
"Sure!" His S/o accepted. In the blink of an eye they suddenly were so small that they could fit in the palm of a hand. They looked at Demoman with cute eyes, sniffing the air around them.
"Aww yer adorable! Now can you be a dog?" He said, smile growing wider. Quickly, his S/o abandoned the form of a little rodent and became a trusty canine. Demoman nearly squeaked out of joy and was about to ask for a different animal but his S/o spoke up first.
"Come on, give me a challenge!" They eagerly wagged their tail, eager to see what Demoman had in mind.
"Alright, let's see...Dragon!" He cheered, giving a more interesting answer. His S/o only jumped in the air and glowed as they transformed, their wings stretching out in utter majesty.
"Now that's more like it! Demo?" His S/o cheered before tilting their head at Demoman's stunned expression.
"Ye look amazing..." He whispered, absolutely in awe of his S/o.
Engineer
As a man with a scientific mind, he's shocked at his S/o's abilities at first. He knows he lives in a crazy world where anything could happen but his S/o to him is just next level.
Other than that, Engie treats it as a pretty casual thing and tries to not make his S/o left out. He just doesn't want to exclude them just because they're different and constantly checks up on them to make sure everything's good.
There's nothing else that cheers him up like his S/o randomly transforming into a different form and handing him a tool while he works. Especially after working non-stop.
"Oh, why can't it just- work??" Engineer said after once again failing to fix up the sentry.
"Maybe this can help?" His S/o spoke up, handing him a wrench.
When he looked in their direction, only to see them as a monkey with a hardhat on. Engie looked at them for a moment before bursting out in laughter.
"And I thought I made bad dad jokes!" He said in-between chuckles.
Heavy
He may have been a bit confused at first about the whole shapeshifter thing but he doesn't let it get in the way of their love for each other.
Honestly, his favorite moments are when his S/o does something he didn't know they could do. And the moment becomes even more memorable to him if his S/o explains it to him and he gets to learn more about their abilities.
It's not that he hates his S/o, but they've got a work-out routine of them being a bear and wrestling together. It may look pretty tough from afar but it's like harmless banter between them.
"Is that all you have, leetle one?" Heavy asked as he stopped his S/o from knocking him down by grabbing their big front paws.
His S/o took it as a challenge and proceeded to use all of their strength to push Heavy back. When he barely budged, his S/o tackled him with their full weight, making him fall back. Heavy felt like he was in a sandvich between his S/o on top of him and the ground.
"Who's the little one now?" His S/o asked, lowering their face closer to his, their wet nose tickling his skin.
"Ohohohoho- alright, alright, you win.." He chuckled, grabbing his S/o's snout and pushing them away.
Medic
Oh you bet he's curious abt his S/o's anatomy. Like, he has so much questions. Does his S/o get an entirely new organ system when they transform? Do they have organs that can only be found in specific animals?
Of course, he'd only experiment on them with their consent. Medic's scientific and malicious mind is racing with ideas but he hold himself back. He finds his S/o fascinating and can't help but admire them in all of their forms.
His S/o finds it fun to transform into a dove and see if Medic can tell which dove is them.
"Liebe, where did you go? Ach, don't tell me you're a dove again.." Medic said, scrambling around his lab before stopping at a row of his doves. He looked at the birds with narrow eyes, examining their features.
"Wait, you're Archimedes, you...I forgot your name- Is it you?" He murmured, pointing to the different doves, eventually ending up on his disguised S/o.
"You got me!" They spoke up, stretching out their wings.
"Aha! I'm getting better at recognizing you!" He cheered as he lightly tapped their beak.
Sniper
He keeps his curiosity about his S/o a secret because he doesn't want to feel like he's bothering them with his questions. But when he can squeeze a question out of their conversation he listens to their every word.
Loves having his S/o around as small animals because then he can practice sniping while they're on his shoulder or on his head.
Sniper remained still as his S/o flew to his nest. They softly landed on his head, trying not to rip his scalp with their talons.
"If you're not finding anything, there's a Soldier that might turn a corner into your sight." They said out loud. His S/o didn't get a response but the Soldier quickly showed up.
"There he is." They spoke up again. Right after their comment, Sniper put a bullet in the Soldier's skull. The sudden shot scared them and they gripped their talons, making Sniper hiss in pain.
"Oh no, Sniper, I'm so sorry!" They quickly got off of his head, apologizing.
He quickly collected himself and spoke in a calm voice "It's alright...but could you get me a small medkit, please?.."
Spy
He finds it somewhat endearing that both him and his S/o have some sort of shapeshifting abilities. Sure, it's more of a disguising thing for Spy but point still stands of them being able to appear as something different.
Likes his S/o's cat form. He finds their purring relaxing and they can get comfortable on his lap while he reads. Also it helps the old man relieve pains or cramps from battles.
Spy stumbled into his room, exhausted from fighting. His chest ached from how much he had been stabbed, shot and exploded and his legs were about to make him collapse.
He fell onto his bed, carelessly letting his limbs fall wherever. Then he felt the mattress dip right by him, his S/o was a cat now with a corner of a towel in their mouth. Spy took the towel and put it on his chest to not get cat fur on his clothes.
His S/o climbed on his chest, slightly kneading the towel before curling up and purring. The vibrations traveled through Spy's body, making him relax.
"Thank you, mon cher." He quietly said, closing his eyes and breathing slowly.

I saw one of ur reblogs and I got confused. The one where you mentioned royal match? Isn’t that the one app that plagues your feed with the fake gameplay ads? From what I saw it’s also plagued with ads (I’m sorry, I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just really confused)
Yes and I was really, really surprised when I went to read its reviews and people were saying that it has no adds.
It doesn't have any adds! The advertisement the game is using to gain more players is really aggressive but I assume they somehow make enough money with this aggressive advertising that they don't need to do that within the game to their players.
The game itself is extremely soft and nice and easy to play. It's also generous if you ask me, and you get daily at least 1h free playtime (often 2,5 hours). On weekends, these free hours don't appear but on the weekends, they sometimes offer 1h + goodies + cold packages with 0.99€ or 2.99€.
The horrible adds of that game do no justice to it and are really off putting - completely opposite of the game itself.
I've been playing Royal Match about 6 months or so and it's one of the most relaxing games I've played. It's not too challenging or impossible either. I've at level 1600+ and haven't needed to use any extra help to finish a level more than perhaps 10 times. If you just be patient, you typically finish a difficult level in a few days.
(I love Cute Cats: Magic Adventure but I had to stop playing when I got stuck in such a horrible level that there's literally no way out of it, not even with the help I've got).
It has King's Nightmare levels occasionally (the ones you see in the add) but you can always skip these. So the game doesn't force you to beat any of these anxiety causing levels.
It has very often all sorts of easy and fun little events where yo gather and collect more items and coins.
Tumblr media
This is the most adds you get within the game, too. There are three special sales happening now at the same time, which occasionally happens on weekend. Typically, there are none or just one. You'll get free gifts from one of these deals every time.
The Key on the right and all the icons on the left are events for free items if you wish to play them. What is really nice is that when the event is over, the game notifies you and tells you that if you want to take the free gifts from this event, they're still available for taking even when the event is over.
It has been very pleasant game! Don't believe the horrible adds.
EDIT: This isn't a collab with this game. I just genuinely love that there are still games with NO ADDS. I've tried so many games just to delete them pretty much immediately because they're just adds with some gaming function....

BSD S5 EP 9
I have not finished the episode yet but I've just gotten to the Fukufuku backstory (specifically the part where they just met and its night and they're lying on the floor together) and, these two are fucking dark timeline Renga from sk8! 'The way of the sword is enjoyable!' and 'I'm going to master the sword alongside you' vs 'skating is fun!' and 'I want to skate with you infinitely' I swear Fukuchi even did the same hand movement that Reki did at some point. Energetic sunshine (at least at the moment) x calm and collected. I am getting such strong Renga vibes from that scene and it's driving me insane.
OK I JUST WATCHED TWO (2) SECONDS FURTHER AND NOW WE'RE IN A FUCKING SHOJO ANIME! BONES LOVES OLD MAN YAOI SO MUCH! THIS IS SO GAY! WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CHERRY BLOSSOMS!!? A CHERRY BLOSSOM PETAL IN THE SHAPE OF A HEART JUST FELL INTO FUKUZAWAS SAKE(?) AND THEN BROKE INTO TWO. THEY'RE NOT EVEN BEING SUBTLE WITH THE 'THIS (ROMANTIC) RELATIONSHIP IS ABOUT TO GO O SHIT' -NESS
DONT DO SYMBOLISM WITH THE FUCKING BIRDS YOU DUMB SHOW! I SEE WHAT YOU'RE FUCKING DOING! For context, they were having a conversation but the focus was on these two egrets? herons? anyways, and then one of them just flew off when Fukuchi said that he was gonna be promoted and sent to the battlefield , which is what separated these two. I'm going to die, I'm not entirely sure why but I am. /pos
Fuck it, I'm committing to the live blog. enjoy seeing my live uncut reactions folks!
The animation is so pretty bro, bones adores their old man yaoi.
Ok, old man yaoi backstory is over , and before I move on to the next thing I just wanna say, young Fukuzawa was so fucking cute! He was an old man even when he was a baby! he was adorable! and honestly so was Fukuchi! I'm very sad that he became the way he is now, war really does stuff to people, huh?
Ok I'm a little bit confused, I didn't realize that he had told that United Nations guy the half-truth. But whatever, that's on me I guess.
OK! JESUS FUCK THE MORE I HERE ABOUT THE WAR THE WORSE IT GETS. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE SOLDIERS HAD TO EAT EACHOTHER AND WERE SHOT FOR TRYING TO DESERT! MAYBE I SHOUD HAVE EXPECTED THAT IT IS WAR BUT JESUS CHRIST!
God, Fukufuku are so gay. I know that stabbing someone isn't exactly romantic but he Fukuzawa did the thing where you grab onto the other persons clothes and after Fukuchi stabbed him his head ended up resting on his chest. This is PEAK romantic tradgedy.
Teruko, I love you. She looks so pretty and she is so hecking smart and I just adore her. She let Atsushi go! Woohoo!! Also, Atsushi's hallucinations are really coming in full force, huh? He is seeing so many people.
Dazai and Sigma are so silly, I love them, Dazai stop flirting for two fucking seconds challenge. Also, it's fun to hear that Dazai is screwing around with Sigma while thinking of Kunikida! Truly every ship is being fed this season! Except sskk, but we did get Aku in Atsushi's hallucinations doing a thing so that's kinda a win for the gays!
Wow! What a nice elevator! I'm sure nothing bad will happen here!
Oh catgirl, you left us too soon.
I must say, I don't really have much to say on the Meursault section. It was good! The animation was great as it usually is for the Meursault sections, Sigma was so pretty I love him and! Dazai did the thing where he played with Sigma's hair! Woo! Fyodor was his usual level of kinda ugly in anime form, Dazai is showing emotions! more of the sillies, Dazai fucking stood on Sigma, which is delightful, aaaaaaand it's started to flood! Fuck!
Anyways, back to the very start of this episode before I was overcome by the homosexual-ness of Fukufuku, Aya Bram Kunikida and Tanizaki got yoinked! Fuck! I still have a theory that Tanizaki could be doing an illusion and I will make a post about it one day. And also, please excuse me for saying this because while I am still upset about Ranpo being hurt... watching Fukuchi pick him up by the scruff of his neck like a cat was kinda hilarious. Also, Teruko I love you. You're the only hunting dog that heard about Fukuchi's real identity and didn't immediately die. Girlboss fr. Also also, where are Lucy Kyouka and Yosano :D? W-where did they go? Asagiri please I need to see my girls.
And to once again revisit the old gays, Holy Shit that was so gay. Nobody told me that the Fukufuku backstory was a Sports Anime tm that turned into a war drama in the second season! I knew we said they were divorced but I never realized just how married they were before the separation! Wow! Fukuzawa smiled so softly at Fukuchi! They were such sweet kids! Aagh!
This was a good episode! I liked this! Excited for next Wungo Wednesday!

Something a little niche today, the Touro heavy Mech and Buckmaster light Mech from Brigador!
These neat little killing machines actually come packaged with a few weapon options, allowing you to mix and match a bit, which is very true to the original game's spirit.
Especially fell in love with the Touro even more as I was putting it together, it's a very cute little lump of pewter that is quite satisfying to hold.
If you've never heard of Brigador before and are curious, more info about that and these little guys under the cut!
For the accurate Brigador experience, it's best to keep reading while listening to this track on loop:
youtube
Now, although those are miniatures up there, Brigador is a video game rather than one of the table top variety. While that may be a distasteful prospect to some, I can assure you it is still quite fun, as evidenced by this screenshot:
Tumblr media
There are like fifty levels and I've beaten (nearly) all of them with every loadout, evidence of me doing as such with the really hard ones have been conveniently omitted in this screenshot however.
The game uses these awesome old-school 3D prerendered sprites for everything, which really scratches my nostalgic itch for that old Diablo/Starcraft look (or any 90s RTS for that matter). Here's how the Touro and Buckmaster look in game!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're somehow even cuter...
The excellent art direction coupled with some really solid writing made Brigador a staple game for me. Whenever I have a couple minutes to kill and I'm at my computer, I'll usually just boot up Brigador and try to clear some challenge I've been working on. It's a very relaxing habit, despite the tone of the game which is actually quite grim! (Hopefully this doesn't reflect on me badly...)
Anyway, enough about videogames, we're here to to discuss miniatures!
Now while I am still very pleased that the developers of Brigador decided to release their own pewter miniatures based on designs from the game, I must warn you, my dear reader, that these sculpts may have some pretty gnarly flash and mold line issues. I can't say anything for sure, because all the pieces on my Buckmaster were free of residue and too much flash, but both of the Touros I picked up still had enough mold release where they needed a wash, and their chassis pieces had pretty big chunks of flash. I had picked up two to convert one into a Corvid mech (I can't decide between a Sweetheart or a Fatshoe) anyway though so it isn't that big a deal. The Touros were the first models they released, so I'm sure they've worked out the kinks at this point.
All that being said, I still had a good time putting these guys together and I'm very excited to paint them up in their proper NEP livery. I think I'll put them on Battletech hex bases since theyre about the right size and could work as stand-ins for some underdog Inner Sphere mecha, perhaps.
Funnily enough, these miniatures are also technically 1:144 scale, which is exactly the same scale as a Gundam High Grade model kit! Here they are next to a 1:144 scale Pilot to give you a sense of how big they would be in real life:
Tumblr media
Something very satisfying about being able to do this with miniatures. I wish Battletech played this nice with regards to scale...
....aaand now compared to a Mobile Suit:
Tumblr media
Makes you realize how ridiculously huge Mobile Suits are, huh?
One shot from the Touro's Abbot could probably still blow that poor Leo up, though...
Thanks for reading this far! This one has been especially indulgent, but it's always fun to talk about something underrated in the hopes more people will check it out.
Going forward on here, I'm considering making more "short-form" posts (yes, it is possible) with more quick updates on what I'm working on. Most miniatures probably won't necessitate an entire screed to accompany them either, believe it or not. I'll still be writing up long ones like these though; I have a long, long list of opinions and diatribes and I am desperately trying to spare my loved ones from being subjected to them. Most importantly, though, it's fun to write about this stuff. :P

Hi Steph, I hope you’re well. I also hope this message isn’t hurtful in any way. See, I’m not even 25 yet, but I struggle with shame at the idea that I’m still on tumblr and reading fanfic. It just doesn’t feel grownup or mature enough. It feels like I should get over it. It may seem like a childish concern but the level of distress and shame it causes me is significant. Have you ever felt the same way ? How did you overcome it ? Much love to you.
Hey Nonny *HUGS*
Listen: The idea that fandom should be discarded when you get older is UTTER FUCKING BOLLOCKS, and the majority of people shitting on older fandom folks and trying to make people feel bad about it are either too young to comprehend that there's no magic door you go through in your 20's and suddenly you lose interest in everything you enjoyed and pop out on the other side in a suit and tie, or "high and mighty" ass-twats who think they're better than everyone else, that everything except for what they like is “cringe” and are the same folks who think sports fandoms aren’t weird-as-fuck either.
They don't understand who keeps fandoms alive. They don't understand that the creators of the media they consume are also adults over 30 (this one ALWAYS confused me... like... who they fuck do they think wrote the content they currently enjoy in the first place???). They don't get that not everything is made for them specifically, and that people are allowed to enjoy different things.
They don't understand that being an adult doesn't mean losing a part of yourself, nor losing the things that make you happy.
And they CERTAINLY don't comprehend that it's fantastic being an adult in a fandom. I can now afford a Funko collection, or buy those prints I wanted, collect comics, create the art I enjoy, interact with people who share my interests, and play video games without rage quitting because now I enjoy the challenge that they present to me.
And, ESPECIALLY in this day and age of the entire world falling apart, obligations having to take precedence over yourself, and jobs working us so much that it’s nigh impossible to have free time anymore, we adults need things that make us happy, to help us make sense of the world, to help us escape it for just a little while, because honestly once you have to deal with real life again, it can sometimes really suck.
I've written and reblogged posts about this very thing in the past that you can check out, before I get to my main point and answer your actual question:

You only need to like a thing to be a fan of it
Ageism in fandom, 27 is too old?
ALL THAT SAID, finally, Nonny, I can’t 100% relate to how you feel because I was fortunate enough to have family and friends who encouraged me and my interests given my affinity for art and my initial desire to be an animator. Of course I had the occasional adult belittle me, AND I still keep my fandom life VERY much separated from my personal and work lives, AND I also hyperfixate on fandom things so I’m always “weird”, so in that regard I have felt shame. But when I got into my late 20′s and early 30′s, I suddenly realized that those people who shat on me for liking the things that I do were just miserable people themselves, who had very little interests of their own, and their impact on my life is literally a blip of a moment in a life that could be 80 years long. Suddenly it didn’t make sense to me to stop doing things I enjoyed and be shameful of that stuff, because there’s so little in my life these days that makes me happy, and my Stuff and Things™ are precious to me. Sure, I still have a Personal Life, Private Life, Work Life, and Fandom Life that all vaguely connect together but are for the most-part kept separated, but it’s not out of shame, it’s out of “my job doesn’t need to know what I do in my off hours because it’s none of their business”. It’s worked for me, and perhaps it can work for you.
I mean, who wants to essentially go to work 40+ hours a week, pay bills, do essential and obligatory tasks and chores, try to stay alive, and then in what little free time one has and just.... do nothing? I genuinely do feel sad for people who feel like they have to abandon what they once loved... it must make life feel very lonely and very unfulfilling. For me, I do all of the adulty things mentioned above, plus I watch movies, I draw, I write, I maintain a blog that fulfills me, I read, I collect stuff, and I play video games. I can’t afford to travel nor do I have any partner/s in my life, so it’s these little things that make me happy. And once I realized that, it was easier to let go of any residual shame I still had.
Don’t ever stop enjoying fandom. No one does... Conventions of any sort would never exist without fandom. Sherlock Holmes is still a relevant literary figure because people STILL adapt it over a century later. Sports live on forever and no one ever shames those people, right? Like, I don’t GET football or hockey or the fandoms surrounding them, and I don’t GET enjoying a sport I’m not actively participating in, but sports isn’t my thing, ergo, not my place to shame someone else for it.
As one post put it up above there: a LARGE chunk of your favourite fic authors are in their 40s/50s/60s. Fandom is multigenerational and no shame should ever be had about reading fan fiction. I don’t make it a secret anymore that the only literature I read is fanfic. Quite frankly, it’s easier for me to consume because the worlds are already established, and I just get to read about what the toys I love are doing in the sandbox this time from someone ELSE’S perspective.
*HUGS* Please don’t feel shame, Lovely. It will take time, but once you realize how insignificant other people-who-you-barely-know’s opinion really is, you genuinely do stop caring what other people think. Literally just a blip.
*HUGS* Please take care, Nonny. I hope my words comforted you at least just a little bit.

Endless list of things I love about post-ts haikyuu (misc. ver.)
having "part 2" chapters like the greatest decoy pt2, king of the court pt2, the greatest challenger pt 2... they show off so perfectly how everyone has grown!!
everyone getting their high school banners. looks so cool and is just a nice touch
everyone reuniting after the game it's just so wholesome
us not knowing who won the olympics or the ali roma/asas sao paulo game or the allstar match cuz it genuinely doesn't matter. no game is the end, and it's not the results that count but the process which includes both winning and losing and either way the world doesn't end. you keep playing and it keeps being fun. or you stop and find something else. just whatever makes you happy
kuroo and oikawa finally canonically meeting in the special
also oikawa and atsumu meeting. we so needed that, esp with iwaizumi there
the incredibly healthy outlook on volleyball the whole series has (this deserves its own post so I shan't elaborate here)
kageyama inviting kindaichi and kunimi to play together! finally these idiots get over what happened in middle school it's so nice to see. and kageyama's smile when they agree is so so cute
the fact that we got the beach volleyball outing with kageyama, kunimi and kindaichi (and hinata). like it's so good and such good closure. kindaichi gets to hit a spike off a perfect set from kageyama, looking like he has the time of his life. in the series proper, one of the ways it was shown that oikawa was a better setter than kageyama even if he wasn't at kageyama's technical level was him communicating with kunimi, recognizing his playstyle, and making the best use of it rather than berating him. in the special, even if kunimi hasn't played for years, kageyama assesses his play style and then suggests he should play beach volleyball for real, because it suits him. not only is it cathartic to see these three happy and on good terms, it shows off so well how much kageyama has grown since those days
the atsuhina dynamic is so good during the game as a whole there's so much there. they both replace each other's former partner, atsumu obv by doing the freak quick with hinata, but hinata also becomes a reliable emergency setter as osamu was, and pulls off one of osamu's moves from their game in hs. atsumu explaining kageyama's thought process to hinata (my points are mine, my hitters' points are also mine). atsumu blaming hinata for waking kageyama up even tho HE'S the one who called him a goody two shoes and got his character development started. hinata jumping for the quick and atsumu going "rn???" while osamu goes "yes this is the time to do it!!" and that's when atsumu gets his banner of "we don't need memories"
(honestly the kageyama/hinata/atsumu/osamu dynamic as a whole deserves its own post which also includes pre-ts stuff because there is just. SO MUCH)
and last but certainly not least, this:
all the little info we get about everyone. like yeah anyone would attempt to give the main characters of their story a satisfying conclusion. it's great haikyuu has done that, but it's amazing that like. basically every single side character has that. ikejiri still plays volleyball! he hasn't given up on it just cuz he sucks. who cares? I do! I care about aone and futakuchi still terrorizing volleyball players as an iron wall on a local team. I care about ukai and nekomata still having video calls. I care about fukunaga being a comedian. I care about saeko and akane being happy to see each other. I care about iizuna being able to keep playing, with a guy from inubushi no less. I care about suna still taking blackmail pics of atsumu like ten years later, now with access to instagram. I care that life has gone on for all of them, with or without volleyball in the picture, but that they're united by playing it together, at the same time, however flimsy or strong a particular connection might be. I care so much and haikyuu rewards me for it with so many good crumbs it's insane

5. Splatoon 3: Side Order DLC
Side Order! Like everyone else, I'll be comparing this to Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion DLC..
I loved Octo Expansion a lot, I even 100% completed it (every stage with every weapon) and I intend to do that for this DLC too. I've finished it with every palette so far but I haven't maxed all my chips yet.
I'm a big roguelike fan. Love Hades, Spelunky, Binding of Isaac, Darkest Dungeon. They're fun to play and a lot of fun to watch. Before Side Order, I haven't played a proper 3D shooter roguelike before so it was a fun experience. Well... Side Order is a roguelite so a lot of these elements but not completely random, since the levels you play are from a set.
Side Order is a lot of fun for me. It definitely feels closest to Hades of all the roguelikes I mentioned. With the different weapon selection, selecting from 3 upgrades at the end of each level, the same few bosses, Marina's hacking shop is JUST like Nyx's darkness. Some of the upgrades are similar too and the Danger floors are like Chaos' upgrades with a benefit but a sacrifice for a limited amount of time. I played a round of SO with dualies, and damage whenever I dodge rolled and it felt exactly like some of the dash boons in Hades.
This isn't a bad thing and it's still unique being 3D, the different tower and zone modes, limited colour chip palette. Maybe other stuff.
To be honest, Octo Expansion trumps Side Order lorewise.. And gameplay wise too it was more diverse.. though not replayable the same way. I 100 percented it, every level every weapon and it was pretty fun. but I didn't go back. The story is quite simple and not too dark, and for some reason with the trailers I thought the tower would be MASSIVE. Near 60-100 floors, PMD feelings here. Especially since we get told the "danger" levels will be more common if we go a while without playing one.. Maybe true but they're also completely avoidable. I was also really surprised to see that we get Marina with us immediately after the tutorial part of everything and she's just there the whole time like, cool but I thought it would be deeper than that.
The levels definitely get repetitive and I end up mastering them very quickly. My first time on Cruel_Sisyphean_Eight-Shaped.Floor for instance, took me over 12 minutes on a casual run. Now, even without hacks I can do it in a couple minutes (not tryharding). Then theres On-the-Run(Circles)_Eternally-Hunted.Floor. It's a grind but this one I had in the bag easily after probable my second time and those were probably the only levels I had trouble with first time at all. Some levels stayed fresh every time I played them, especially with low hacks, but not those two even though they were challenging and stood out to me at first.
At least the colour chips and palettes can make each run crazy different. My first run with brush was insane, I regained ink fast enough that I never needed to recover in swim form. Just endlessly attacking. I didn't have too much difficulty with any weapon except for the Octoshot of course as it limits the amount of chips and hacks you can have at once... and I'm not sure if it was because of the low hacks but I failed it a TON, especially on the smollusk fight which was annoying. Most of the palettes were a first time win for me and if not it was on my 2nd try and I only added hacks when it came to my last few palettes so I don't know if I was just fumbling or what but I eventually did it with one hack for damage resistance and one for life I think... can't remember. I tried a couple things.
Smollusk is kind of cool once you finish visiting them and I feel like there is more to think about and potential with their circumstances, I'd like to see more. I just crave suffering you know how I am. I'd like to see it more painful and conflicting. There's some reading between the lines to be done also with Acht and the Marina dev logs and the way octolings are as a whole. Might write my thoughts on them later.

Tagged by @faejilly , thank you! I will once again tag anyone who wants to!
Were you named after anyone?
Not intentionally, but when I was about 12 my mom suddenly realized that my name was a variation on the name of her cousin, who also happened to be one of her best friends, so retroactively I'm named after her!
When was the last time you cried?
Oh man, I'm moving soon and I get really attached to places, so I've been pretty sniffly. Add to that the fact that I made the mistake of looking at cat pictures/videos too much on social media and now all my feeds are incredibly sad stories of people losing their pets. :( So yes, a couple days ago I was pretty weepy.
Do you have kids?
Nope!
Do you use sarcasm?
Probably on occasion. I don't think I sell it very well, for the same reason that I can't be mean in video games.
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Whether or not they're walking a cute dog.
What’s your eye colour?
Brown
Scary movies or happy endings?
Probably happy endings overall, but scary movies can be fun!
Any special talents?
I can tell you if there's a 30% chance it's already raining.
Where were you born?
Canada! Somehow been in the States for nearly 11 years already.
What are your hobbies?
Playing piano, video games, reading, hiking (intermittently), writing (still more intermittently), D&D, apparently collecting Pokemon cards in the year 2023.
Have any pets?
A lovely little cat named Clara! I adopted her from the shelter at seven months old and she's somehow four years old already.
What sports do/have you played?
I went to soccer camp every year in middle-high school, I tried out for the basketball team in high school but left tryouts halfway through when a moment of clarity revealed to me that most of the people in the gym were the same ones who were always weirdly mean to me in class, and I fenced competitively (epee) from eighth grade through college, and also coached for a bit. Also did "ballet" and then actual ballet from 3-13 (I participated in the Dodge Instructors Every Time They Want You To Go En Pointe challenge until they suggested I leave), which was the hardest workout of the lot, for sure.
How tall are you?
5'7"/ 170 cm
Favorite subject at school?
Loved them all, but in grade school it would've been English and Math. In college it was a Music 101 class and a 400-level fluid dynamics class.
Dream Job?
Doing interesting and helpful research, teaching cool classes to motivated students, working with teams of people to make the field a better place, mentoring students one-on-one and helping them learn about the world, all at a workplace with a focus on "no work outside of work hours" and with sufficient remuneration and job security that I never have to get a new job. Which is what I'm doing now! So yeah, I really love the job I'm doing right now, and this is the year I put together my tenure package so fingers crossed on that last point.

Heads Up, Seven Up!
Look who's showing her face again around here after almost a year of radio silence XD this smashing comeback is thanks to the one and only @silver-lily-louise who tagged me in a little writer's challenge.
(Before I get into that though I need to yell about your post for a sec because it sent me into a giggling fit. Not only the genius wordplay with Seven's name in the beginning but also the fic snippet itself because damn, you really nailed the characterization of both of them! I can see Seven's doubtingly raised eyebrow and Harry trying to play it off and being all breezy even though he is a cinnamon roll and can't fool anyone into thinking differently... I enjoyed every second of that!)
Now, the Challenge!
Share the last seven sentences you wrote.
Well, let's see. I'm currently (=since February) working on my German Attack on Titan fanfic (which is why I've been MIA on ao3, if anyone's been wondering...) Fun Fact, I've already mentioned that fic once on here a loooong while ago and the line from then doesn't exist in this form anymore, hahaha! Anyway, back then was chapter 3, what I'll share now is from chapter 18. I decided to leave it at six sentences because they form a unit of meaning and since they're German sentences they're still more than 1,5x as long as Louise's 9 - and almost twice as long in English, because of course - so I think we're good XD Here goes!
Levi examined his charges who were lined up in front of him like organ pipes. With their vastly differing level of knowledge it wouldn't make sense to provide Eren and Mikasa with the same training. Mikasa had already mastered much more than just the basics of self defense and if Levi recalled his little sparring session with Eren in the waiting room of his studio and Eren's subsequent performance on the punching bag then there was no doubt that Eren braved any fight on enthusiasm and overflowing anger alone, not on any kind of understanding of fighting techniques. Armin at least had a solid grasp on the essentials but nothing more. It was now around six thirty so there were roughly two and a half hours left until the Titans would likely tell them the place for the hostage exchange and they'd discuss their plan of action. He would make the most of it.
I'm pretty sure the expression with the organ pipes does not exist in English but I decided to go with a literal translation anyway XD
Thanks for reading, if you made it through all of my rambles ;D

I'm really excited to see the Speedrunner vs 6 hunters coming up for so many reasons (rant ahead sorry)
1) Who's the sixth hunter ? There's already a lot of speculations (Tommy, Punz, Hannah, Spreen, Foolish, Jojosolos even...) and they're honnestly all great. And they would change so much the video, like clearly Tommy is a great player but he is naturally more fun axed, so it'd be nice to see him on serious business mode (+discduo content <3).
Punz seems more raccord with the others hunters, so it seems the more coherent to add (good PVPer, movement player, good follower too)
Hannah would be just as impressive as Punz. She may be a little less used to play with Dream and the hunters, but that's only from an outside POV, seems like she did great in Squidcraft with Sapnap and George in terms of teaming. And her prowess in MC is not to prove any longer.
Spreen would be super original, great player and great fan content (at least on tumblr, twitch and twitter) : my only worries if it's him is communication (really important in manhunt and difficult to juggle around, though it'd be super cool if they played with the usmp mod) and team play. Then again, 6 hunters is a really difficult level so maybe it's good to add some difficulties for the hunters ? Spreen is absolutely great on his own and I would love to see him 1v1 Dream on a challenge like that. He could purchase Dream with Sapnap, who'd relay info. Idk, it'd be so cool but the changes seem too important to the usual recipe for it to actually happen :(
Foolish : that'd be really good to see, especially since he watched and reviewed manhunt. He is a great addition to any group and good support. I'm not so sure about his skills in PVP and movement though (like litteraly, I don't know anything about them), but then again with sixth hunters not really necessary to have 6 great fighting opponents. But he is really occupied with the q.smp as of now so not sure where he'd find the time (same thing for BBH though so who knows ?)
Jojosolo, I admit, is a guilty pleasure. I'd really love to see her in it, seeing how good of a MC player she is and her willingness to team with Dream, and I think she'd bring many wonderful things to the game - But I doubt she'd be chosen because the team needs to work together and they, outwardly at least, never really did. I'd 100% love to see her there but seeing the new hunters are often close friends of Dream I doubt she'll chosen especially with all the others options
It could also be someone totally different lol (Callahan or RedVelvet would be a great surprise)
2) The game in itself : like, I'm 98% sure it'll be the usual formula with Dream's POV in mc, against his 5 usual hunters and a new one.
BUT it also could be an IRL one, especially now that he has the mask, that he scouted things around and that all their friends went there once.
It could be 6 hunters with totally new hunters (in which case we could have maybe multiple people seen upon) which would compensate the high number
Still think it's going to be the regular format though
3) The plays. Obviously Dream isn't a fan of forgettable videos for his most famous serie : but what will he even be able to do ? I'm not a great mc player (like, I rather build and farm than jump and fight) but the amount of things he already did in mc will restrict him a little in terms of originality. Then again, it's at least 10 videos where they find new ways to beat the game.
That's also why I wonder whether they'll change something about the format or the hunters : but all the previous manhunt got the same doubt about the originality of the play and look where we are.
4) The win. It's no mystery that both Hunters and Dream got a chance to win but to say which here... Like, logically it'd be the hunters. But often it's Dream, who uploads, that gets out victorious. But it's 6 hunters and if he wants to do a follow-up it better be a win for them so he can get revenge. Unless he needs to win so the challenge seems possible. Aaah
Also, the fact the date is unsure. I saw so many people think the manhunt release will be the 23 but it seems to be for his song (presave it if you didn't already !). I doubt Dream would post the two the same day so... I fear I must content myself with a "Speedrunner vs 6 hunters" SOON

Headcanons for the modern au of the tale of crowns s/o's?
OH hoh ohoh youve done it now anon, I have so many hcs brewing for a modern!AU with these LIs and AUs give me a whole lot more creative freedom to go hog wild
Azad/Ashti
They'd come from a relatively well-off family, spending a lot of time at the public library with their mother when they were a kid
That is, until their father became sick, their mother forced to take on more hours and their elder sister and them put in charge of making sure their dad was alright
Even with limited time, during middle and high school, they found a lot of fun participating in musicals and plays- although when they grow older they'll vehemently deny it.
Their passion for reading and writing continues throughout their childhood, pushing them to major in English
It's during college when they'd meet the other LIs, first bumping into R at the library
After college, they'd find work as a writer, enjoying a pretty relaxed life off of the royalties
They'd dabble in poetry and might even write up a screenplay or two due to their background in theatre
Outside of that, they'd spend a lot of time with their family, taking care of their sick father when their sister couldn't
I also think there's a real possibility they may turn to teaching as a profession too
Being a professor or high school teacher for literature, they'd try to instill the same love for reading in all their students
Nothing embarrasses them more, however, then going out to catch up with friends just to see the latest novel or book they've published being passed around
Dara/Delal
Honestly the most 'normal' of the LIs in their childhood
They come from a military family, at least on their mom's side, so it left them with their other parent most days while she traveled.
Was a kid that kept themselves busy with different types of extracurriculars
They'd take on a sport or two, but find real passion in martial arts
Surprisingly, they also enjoyed choir, being a bit of a natural at it
Despite the family ties, they'd have little to no interest in actually serving, however, a free ticket to university is a hard offer to pass up for most families struggling financially
Still, seeing the effects that it had on their mom gave them second thoughts
Regardless of whether they get it covered through a military program, their athletic prowess alone could easily get them plenty of scholarships if they committed themselves to a sport
The first person they'd meet in college would be A, the two bumping into each other on the way to the gym
They'd probably major in kinesiology considering the career they take up
After college, they'd teach self-defense to others and be damned good at it too. They're strict, but it's more like they're particular over form- not wanting improper form to hurt their students.
They might even own a gym or a center that they'd teach in. They'd be a strong motivator for those wanting to get healthy, and an invaluable resource for those looking to find introductions to new interests like judo or rock climbing.
Though, sometimes they think they do their job too well- X constantly pestering them to spar or challenging them to beat a personal record whenever they stop by.
Rozerîn/Rêzan
Was adopted at a very young age so they don't know much about their birth parents
Since they showed a lot of promise when they were young, reading books far beyond their reading level in elementary and winning science fairs left and right- they skip grades
A handful of them
It also helps since they don't come from a lot, so their performances win them a shit ton of scholarships
It's a little surprising for those who see the teen in college, their first encounter with the other LIs being with X who assumed they were a high school student that had gotten lost
Due to their love for animals, they opt for the veterinarian path, majoring in biology with a focus on zoology
They may double major in the humanities or literature just to make the most out of their time at university
During college they'll find a great professor that quickly becomes like a mother to them, helping them find internships and job opportunities after college- even including them in research projects done over the summer
Unlike the others, being very young when they start college lets them spend more years fitting in classes that are neither for their majors nor minors
So long as have their funds covered, they're happy to explore and take classes that interest them
Hell, they probably have so many scholarships the school itself might pay them to attend
And once they're ready, maturing enough, they'll start their work with animals- keeping in close contact with the small handful of friends they've made over the years in university
Xelara/Xelef
Was raised by a single mother for most of their childhood, until a housefire left them an orphan, both emotionally and physically shut off from others
Bounced around in the foster care system until they were brought into a family in a rough neighborhood
Luckily, that's where they met two kids around their age, quickly becoming friends
Coming from a poorer family, they worked a few odd jobs here and there with their friends to make it into a good university
But instead of going down a direct path, they opted to attend part-time, continuing their work outside of that
It certainly helped pay for a lot of their classes, but was a way they could support their family, their tight-knit community back home
And make enough money to support a rather lavish lifestyle
Didn't really major in anything specific, but did take classes that offered them certifications that would help with getting the job they did want
To be a firefighter
It's actually where they met D, the two bumping into each other during their first aid certification courses
Even after their college days are over, they are certain to keep pestering the more intriguing characters they bump into
And besides, they'd have to keep in contact with their college friends- there were far too many jokes unmade, challenges unwon for them to do otherwise

Looking back on X&Y's release 10 years ago...
I still remember queueing up in line for the XY release day literally a whole decade ago- my brother, dad, and one of my best friends were with me and we all went out to Krispy Kreme afterwards- I evolved my first Spewpa there to see which regional Vivillon I had!
Nowadays I can't even imagine pre-ordering a Pokemon game, since I have to wait and see if they perform decently, have enough content in them to justify the $60USD price tag, and whether their DLC is good if not. I've become an old, jaded, beaten-down adult since then, haha...
But enough negativity for now- there are so many good things XY had that we should acknowledge!
Fairies are one of the biggest- we've had them for 10 YEARS now, everyone! Remember when they released the XY demo before the game launch and everyone was hitting Sylveon with everything to see how the new type matched up with everything? And now, Fairy has been paired up with all but two of the other types! They've also become the most OP type now (which is an issue they were made to stop) but it could always be worse! Who knows, maybe in 10 more years, the type chart might be unrecognizable!
They even managed to model and animate over 700 Pokemon on a handheld game, plus all their extra forms! Nowadays, Pokemon games can't manage to do that for even 500 Pokemon on launch.
Mega Evolution was the first battle gimmick ever introduced, and to this day it still remains so much better than the others that we're all still hoping and praying it comes back. I know there were some qualms that mostly OP and popular Pokemon got megas, but naturally the solution shouldn't be "No Megas"- it should be "More Megas"! And we all know someday we're going to have to raid Gamefreak's vault for their Mega Flygon concept art- we know it's out there!! Anyways, I'm glad Megas still get respect in spinoffs- Pokemon GO, Mystery Dungeon, Smash Bros, etc. It gives me hope that one day they really will return.
But the more negative things about XY need to be addressed too- while the games themselves were good, a lot of people rightfully agree that they were the beginning of many declines for the games.
The extremely low difficulty for no reason- NPCs and bosses having miniscule teams with less than 4 moves, rarely any held items and a poorly-made level curve. I can't think of anyone before who thinks the games before were "too hard" or that they're now "just right". To be fair, they've remedied this every now and again with actual challenging bosses (Totems and Ultra Necrozma, BDSP Cynthia, Volo, Team Star Bosses, Sada/Turo, Kieran, and the Ogre Clan) but I do hope this issue gets fully resolved one day. It's not fun playing through 90% of the games mindlessly clicking through the same highlighted "super effective" button over and over.
The "overly friendly rival" problem that first started in XY has finally been fixed though- while Gens 6-8 suffered a bit from it, Gen 9 doesn't just have decent rival characters- Nemona, Arven, Penny, Carmine, and Kieran have been some of my favorite Pokemon characters ever!
The lack of postgame areas and things to do first started in XY. While Looker and Emma's story was great, it didn't offer much of a challenge and there was barely anything to do afterwards. And nowadays when we do get substantial postgames in Pokemon they're paid DLC. And as long as we're getting DLC from now on, can we PLEASE have one that contains a Battle Frontier, please???
Mythicals no longer having their own areas and quests also started in XY- so many unfinished areas in the game that should've gone to them.
Kalos is the only main Pokemon region to only exist in one iteration so far- all others were expanded upon with remakes, sequels, third versions, ultra versions, or DLC. I do hope in maybe 5 years or so we do get XY remakes that'll finally do Kalos justice.
Another problem that eventually got fixed is small amounts of new Pokemon- I remember being in total disbelief that Gen 6 only had 72 new Pokemon, waiting for more to get announced someday. But with Gen 9, we finally have generations containing well over 100 Pokemon again, which is a massive relief!
And one more major underrated change that Gen 6 brought to Pokemon- it's the first one to ever have a worldwide release! I still remember spending most of Gen 5 learning Japanese names of all the new Pokemon, moves, characters, etc while waiting for BW's English release. But nowadays we can all enjoy a new generation's launch around the world at the same time! That's another thing to be grateful for!
But yeah, in these last 10 years so many things have changed and many others have stayed the same- for the Pokemon franchise and for my own life! While not all of it has been perfect, it still blows me away how far we've come, and how much more we need to improve on! I was still a nerdy little kid who didn't know how to draw digitally when these games came out- and now I'm an adult who makes animated shorts and works at an animation production company!
I have no clue if I'll be ready in 2026 for SM's 10th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of the franchise overall! Maybe everything will be better or it'll have gotten so much worse. Either way, I'm happy to have made it this far with you all and can't wait to make a similar post for the 10th anniversary of this blog, too!

No one would ever get this out of me irl but I very occasionally, at the peripheries of my thoughts wonder what might have been if I had agreed to go out with that guy from biochem. (Can you tell that Hadestown has had an effect? This is dizzying. Next thing you know I'm going to be begging to have a crush (but also I'm very picky about my crushes bc they can't be undergrads (lol tbf I'm only barely not an undergrad myself), they can't be in my department, and they have to be someone I see somewhat regularly (no passerby crushes)).) Because part of the reason I said no was fear and part of it was that I was in excruciating pain when we had that study date (mostly the fear though), and then there was also the whole being devastated about not getting to show off that solo that I worked really hard on. Bad vibes all around. But he wasn't a bad guy. I was just scared.
Even still, I can't seem to remember his name.
[edit, next day: I wrote the above last night and you would not believe the butterflies I got today when all I did was make eye contact with some (very attractive) dude before a class. Ridiculous. (I have the need to catch his eye again.) This is gonna be like bike-boy from junior year lol. Or the caving dude, also from junior year (literally who did I think I was, trying to go caving just to get close to a man??? Lowkey still wish I'd been able to get in on that trip, but alas).]
God, I really cannot dance. Was recently informed that alum from my undergrad uni would be restricted in their GDrive space so I went in and culled (will ultimately have to remove half of what I have stored) a bit. In early pandemic days there was some Broadway challenge (it was basically a big ad but it was fun and free (and very successful, incredibly marketed), so) where each week you'd have to take time to learn a song or dance or something and post it and I saved my dance video to my uni GDrive and it's AWFUL. Like the steps are all there, I can remember them (because I drilled it hard) but I'm so clunky lookin--it's dreadful. IT'S SO BADDD. (keep in mind it was newsies though so like it is bad but the choreo isn't helping either) But. If nothing else, I keep that smile on lock(down). I haven't watched any of the theatre tapes from high school but that doesn't make me excited to see them, beyond hating the recorded sound of me singing, bleh.
Found out what next year's stipend numbers are going to be and there's still literally no way I'd be able to make it work with my current savings rates (25% (also I'll be increasing my estimated taxes to 30% from 25%)) without help. It feels kind of weird to say this because I truly miss my grandmother so much like it's not even funny, but she's helping me so much right now.
Want to make a text-based, randomized, hunger-games-style battle royale game in python for my friends to play. In a different life, I think I could've been a game dev. Literally. Writing, music, computer science (I don't really do visual arts though). To be fair, like, there's nothing stopping me from trying. On the side, just for fun, coming up with minigames. I think I'd need to become like Brandon Sanderson though, where I relax by doing something (actually, now that I think about it, I'm not that far off, it's just that I don't have a ton of access to my favorite hobbies rn (music, sewing, etc)).
Today I'm thankful for how beautiful biology can be sometimes. I love how we find reflections of the same ideas at all levels!!! Recently I was thinking about multicellular organisms, and how they're just a bunch of different cell types that have different jobs with the goal of all working toward the greater good of staying alive together. And you don't just see this in things like animals! There are unicellular organisms that form colonies when times get tough, and they sometimes will even divide out work amongst themselves. And at the multi-organismal level, people banded together during those early days of covid to make sure the elderly were fed, that we were getting fitness classes, that we could see performances. And I know this is a basic idea in biology, but that doesn't stop it from being beautiful.
[edit: I finished all of my pre-spring break homework!!!! Let the breaking begin!!!!]

I keep posting LOAOQLQ I'm kinda sorry anyway here's my review of all lbp story modes I've played. I just decided to put this here cos why not.
Gives context to my tier list
Tumblr media
So. I'm going to review the LBP games story mode who's I have played. Keyword, STORY MODE. Okay : )
Well. Let's start with LBP1 since it's the first one. The story is cute, us having to defeat the collectors. And we can all agree on that the aesthetic is absolutely amazing. The feel and the aesthetic is something I enjoy so much. It almost feels like you're in a dream (not as much as in milestone5 but ykyk). It doesn't really have characters we really get a feel into but quite a few of them are still endearing.
Curator one is the king with the gardens, arguably one of the most iconic and memorable areas in all lbp games for us fans. For me I also have quite the emotional connection haha and yes it does well enough at what it's supposed to do, be a tutorial.
The savannah (Zola) is probably my least favourite area. I still love playing through it though, I just don't enjoy the theme as much.
The wedding (Frida), first level is one of my favourites in the whole game. I love the theme! It's fun and Volver a comenzar makes me cry. I don't really like the level where you have to go around with Don lus dog, but I still really appreciate the area.
The canyons (Uncle Calapenis) is really awesome and super iconic. This is really where the game starts to spike in difficulty and still it's so enjoyable.
The metropolis (Mags) once again has one of the most iconic levels with the construction site. Atlas slaps and I love the level in general. I also quite like the theme. Once again, fun.
I can say the same about the islands (Sensei) and The temples (Magisian). They are challenging and fun. And pretty. Just perfect lol.
I really love The wilderness (tbe collector). It's challenging but really fun, I love the levels that come before the boss fight, and the boss fight itself is just fine :)
I find the ending a bit short? Idk I feel like they could have done something different to make it have more impact.
I think LBP1 story mode is almost perfect. It's fun, challenging, there isn't a moment in the game where I hope a level is ending fast, not a moment where I dread thinking about what worlds to come.
Now, ummm LBP2 yes... ehem.
I love that we have proper characters. I really love all of them for their own reasons and even the villain the Negativitron is awesome. They're all cute and have amazing personalities!! Yeah I could rave about them for hours.
Anyway. I enjoy the story mode, till Avalonia. LISTEN. The last time I ever played the story mode was when I got the game, which was in late 2012 I think. I couldn't finish the game because back then it was too hard for me, and through that I ended up in eves asylum since levels unlock when you play with others who already have them unlocked. Anyways, like a year or two after I assume I actually managed to finish the story, and not once have I played the actual story mode since then. Till today.
In my mind, the opinion that LBP2 was the best LBP game stayed in my mind. The story was perfect, the create mode was perfect bla bla. And that's the expectation I went on when I played it today. And uhmmm well let's go shall we?
I dont like the excessive robot usage. I was never a big fan of the controlinator controlled creatures, and god. Is there a lot of that in this game. Not my kinda thing at all. In a lot of levels I was just hoping it would be over soon, and that's not what I consider a good gaming experience in my eyes.
Anyway, that's just wjat I feel though, only I don't like that. And I know there are plenty people who are in love with the storymode, which I absolutely understand. I quite like the bossfight, and I love the story. It's big and messy and really nice ! But the story (game) isn't for me. I don't feel like replaying it. And I was happy when it was over.
I feel guilty I have to feel this way about LBP2 but I need to be honest. It's not my favourite, at all. And that's just how it is.
Now for LBPvita, its quite the cute game! The story is alright, sadly most of the characters are super forgettable. I like the themes and once again, the music is bangers. I had fun playing the story. I can't really say too much about it other than that it's a neat little lbp game!
LBP3 ... when I was younger yes I had spite. I was angry and upset because it was buggy. I said I hated the game and the story mode even though I hadn't even tried it properly. I said the music sucked and I didn't like the characters.
Admittedly I am not too mad at my younger self. We all were upset. Now. I bought the game on ps4 for the cheap price of 8 euros like two years ago? I just wantrf it for funsies. I never touched it much since it was still buggy and I didn't have the nerve to get into it, but last month I think I decided to try and play through the story, and open up to give the game another try.
The story is ofcourse, rushed. I've watched videos on both beta and alpha, and yes, A LOT was changed last minute, I'm talking months away from release. We all know the game was rushed by Sony, so no hard feelings towards sumo. From Prologe to Ziggurat the game feels fine, but in bunkum lagoon everything becomes so fast.
That out of the way, now you have to piece the story together yourself. In the beta some details were different that don't really fit the current version. So I'll just tell my interpretation. (Short). We have to save the planet Bunkum from Newton who has been possessed by the evil titans, which were locked away in a can ontop of stitchim Manor.
Different from other villains, Newton himself isn't intirely evil. He seemed to have unleashed the titans due to insecurity and wanting to impress his parents, not understanding the true power of the titans.
Anyway, we have to help stop the titans, safe bunkum and Newton. I really like the gameplay. Its fun! I like stitchim Manor, and I love manglewood.
Speaking of manglewood I didn't mention how I quite love some of the characters in this game too. We even can piece together deeper backstories for some of them which I think is very yum yum.
Anyway, manglewood. Fun. Not a single level i don't enjoy replaying. Speaking of replaying I'm also not talking about any of the levels that aren't the main levels because I played on Mt own and I couldn't play most of them.
Ehem anyway I love the theme of the ziggurat, even if I really hate that one level with the fire. (So hot, so sweaty ;)). I'm in general not the biggest fan of toggles gameplay. And for whatever reason the second titans fight is impossible for me. I can't see shit send help.
Bunkum lagoon is okay, the levels are so nice too. The Great Escape is my favourite level in the game, its fun and challenging. And tbe boss fight is very nice too.
Sadly, the ending feels so rushed. You feel literally no accomplishment after finishing everything. For me tbe fact bunkum lagoon as a whole including the ending being so rushed is just the most negative thing about it.
That being said, I must admit that it, along with LBP1 slightly above, is my favourite story mode. Younger me is turning in his grave.
Thanks for reading mwah

FromSoft Starter Guide For Everything Except Sekiro
FromSoft is a company known for their challenging (but manageable games. A lot of folks want to try them, but hit some rough parts getting started. Since almost FromSoft game (with the exception of Sekiro, which is just Built Different[1]) has a lot of the same gameplay loops and mechanics, I figured I'd list few common common techniques that can help you get started for pretty much every one (Except Sekiro. See my footnote below[1]). My advice here is not necessarily the be-all, end-all, but it enough to get you started and feeling comfortable enough to carry you through to the end-game. In SHort, they are:
Prepare To Die
Prioritize Permanent Investments Over Consumables
Level Up Your HP Stat
Explore The Environment
Upgrade Your Weapon
Co-Op Frequently, And In Other Folks' Worlds, And Often
Read Item Descriptions
Have Fun
1. Prepare to die.
I know, I know. This sounds like shitty advice, among the same level of usefulness as "git gud." But when I say you should prepare to die, I mean that dying from an encounter is not only normal, it's to be expected. The developers made death a core part of not only their gameplay loops, but also their lore. Dying repeatedly (and coming back again and again and again) is the exact intended experience. You are Undead, or Unkindled Ash, or The Good Hunter, or The Tarnished you dying, and for Plot Reasons you are incapable of staying dead. You'll just pop back at the spawn, ready try again.
Treat this as a learning experience. Something got you, and now that it has, you know its deadly tricks. As Frank Herbert taught us, "Knowing there's a trap is the first step in evading it" and now you know that This Area Has Poison, or That Shadowy Area Has Things That Grapple And Eat Your Face you will prepare you for the next run. Plus, if you drop a large payload of Souls/Blood Echoes/Runes you can always run back, grab said Souls/Blood Echoes/Runes then race to the spawn point. Even if you lose them, don't worry. Trust me when I say there will always be more where that came from.
2. Prioritize Permanent Investments Over Consumables
Consumables can be bought at merchants, and the longer you play, the more of them you can find or farm. Early game you'll be tempted to buy them, but the thing about consumables is that when they're gone, they're gone! Buying something permanent (like a new weapon, or armor, or upgrade material) will go a long way. This isn't to say that you should never buy consumables (Hell, Bloodborne's healing system requires it!) but you should always remember that when they're gone, they're gone - and so are the souls/echoes/runes you spent on them.
3. Level Up Your HP Stat
Even with taking the approach that Each Death Is A Teachable Moment, you're still gonna want to avoid having too many deaths, if only because loading screens are less interesting to watch than actual gameplay. Thus, you'll want to see fewer of them.
Leveling HP literally increased the number of hits you can take before a loading screen, giving you more time to pop off a healing item and keep fighting that good fight. Eventually you'll want to stop leveling this (Somewhere between forty and sixty, depending on which specific game and/or build you're playing) but until you each those caps, it's never a bad idea to spend your Level Up XP on hitpoints.
4. Explore The Level
There are plenty of secrets hiding, even in the early levels! Go diving into nooks, crannies and weird corners, seeing what can be seen! Oftentimes, among clusters of tough enemies, are are glowing Items that can be picked up and retrieved by rushing in - you keep the items you gain when you die - you only lose your Souls/Echoes/Runes between loading screens, and even tehn they require retrieval. Doing a suicide run to That Special Glowy Thing can pay off unexpected dividends.
As well, exploration can revealing hidden shortcuts that speed up traversal around levels. You can also meet helpful NPCs who can be merchants, teachers, and have fun questlines which break your heart are delightful and silly and give you cool items! Remember: try not to harm the NPCs - you can tell whether they're enemies by whether or not you can lock onto them. A friendly NPC can go a long way in teasing out the game's lore and setting, though don't be surprised if you don't finish their questline on your first play-through - FromSoft designs their quests to be deliberately obscure.
5. Upgrade Your Weapon
In most of the games, the starting weapons that come with your class range between okay to solid. decent. While some individual choices are less than ideal (*glares at the Bandit class*) the rest either are solid melee weapons or else have respectable starting spells.
Exploring the levels can reveal lots of helpful upgrade materials, and even getting them from +0 to +1 which makes them do a lot more damage with each hit. Taking the weapon or magic catalyst to blacksmiths or workbenches (usually located near a hub or bonfire) will bring out more in your weapon. Just remember that while you'll eventually get infinite upgrade materials to take you weapons to about halfway of their upgrade tree (usually +3 to +6 in most FromSoft games), this comes later. Usually, it's wise to commit to a solid early weapon wealy on - I recommend shortswords and longswords for beginners, but if you find yourself falling in love with a rapier or katana or Something Fancy, feel free to switch to that.
6. Co-Op Frequently, And In Other Folks' Worlds, And Often
On my first playthrough, I was so scared of playing online and looking bad in front of other players. "What if I die like a chump in front of someone? What will they think of me? Will I be paired with folks who are so much better, and outclass me? " I played offline, hollowed, and barely reached out to others..
This is, in retrospect, silly. These games are designed with co-op elements for a reason. By playing online, you get the notes (which alternate between incredibly helpful and absolutely hilarious in tone), bloodstains (which show you how others died, turning their teachable moments into yours as well) and, most importantly, synchonous multiplayer. Whether it's putting down Summon Signs, ringing your Small Resonant Bell, or using the Fingers in a Summon Pool, offering to help others is one of the most delightful and rewarding parts of the experiences.
By the time you've gotten the Multiplayer Items, you've probably noticed that, when you die and don't collect your Souls/Echoes/Runes, they're Gone For Good. This is entirely how the gameplay works - in your world. But when you visit another players's world? Everything you earn from killed foes returns with you when you return to your world.
This means you can earn oodles of Souls/Echoes/Runes by just camping in front of the same Boss Walk, and doing it over and over again. You can afford to take risks, because (so long as your host doesn't die) they can resummon you again and again using the same Humanity/Insight/Furlcalling Finger Remedy from the same starting point. On a good run, even a newer player and a weaker Host can make a lot of progress by summoning the same guy over and over to clear through all the monsters, get all the loot, and turn even a slog into a delightful day out. What's better - you get to learn the layout of the place, get more comfortable with the enemies there, and gain aboatload of experience in the process.
Eventually you'll start to carry weaker players and show them the way through - it's one of the most delightful feelings ever. Sure, there are Invaders here and there - but you always be summoned again, to fight another day.
7. Read Item Descriptions
These will give fantastic advice on how to use them, and tease out bits of lore. It's surprising how easily folks miss this, and how often reading an item description can reveal a clue that can make a boss much easier or help reveal a Shocking Secret about the history of the setting.
8. Have Fun
It's corny as hell, but it's true. These games are meant to be played so they can be beaten. When you've spent all your Souls/Echoes/Runes at the end of levelling up, splurge a little on some weird item. Try following one of those notes that says "Treasure ahead" at the edge of a cliff, or experiment with that weird item you found. it might be awesome! It might be useless! It might be hilarious! Regardless - these games are meant to be played, and to delight, so leap into it!
FromSoft games are hard, but I sincerely believe the reputation that "FromSOft Is SOOO Hardcore "reputation is grossly overrated. They can be frustrating, at the end of the day they were design to give you an enjoyable challenge. For all the jokes about "lol, you died" the design teams and even the other players want you to succeed.
While these games pose daunting challenges, they are also made with loving care that generously grants you the tools to overcome the challenges they set. I firmly believe that their difficulty is based more on obscurity of handing out How To Play information than raw Skill Challenge, and the means of overcoming this obscurity is through trial and error. Not everyone has the time for that. But that's why I wrote this guide. It's enough to help you to get started
I hope you found this guide helpful. It's probably not going to be the be-all, end-all for FromSfot advice, but it should be enough to help you get started. Please, let me know if there's anything I left out, or anything you wish I'd mentioned. I want to help folks get into these games as much as possible, so any feedback is welcome!
PRAISE THE SUN!
Footnotes
[1] Sekiro does have quite a few Souls-like elements, like the use of Idols checkpoints, doors you can later unlock to create shortcuts, replaying levels over and over until you have mastery of their geography and monster layouts, and so on. But the game's lack of a conventional leveling or weapons upgrade system puts it in a different methodology of play - in a Souls game, using some of the tricks I mention by farming enemies for items or XP is a fine strategy to power through tougher moments. In Sekiro, you have to learn the specific set of inputs and specific mechanic needed to overcome the boss ahead of you. It's much tighter, but at the cost of demanding it be played in a highly specific specific way. It's a great game, but my advice is less useful here.

More Palia thoughts
Well, i'm a collective level of 73 now and did join a small community. Here's some more of my thoughts so far. This is going to be pretty long, so putting it behind a cut!
addressing the multiplayer bits first... Still not finding the mmo bits of the game very meaningful as someone who is just trying to chat up strangers and has no existing friends to play with. It's cool that flow trees need more than one person to cut down, but the fact that having the final tier axe lets you chop the smaller ones by yourself kinda negates a good chunk of that. Nice that you can get some by yourself i suppose, but i'm finding more and more people going solo not even bothering to ask in server chat if others would like to reap the rewards as well. Palium ore should have the same trait in my opinion, if they want to go down the road of -you need someone to help you with this so group up!- Cooking with more people would be faster and probably fun, but so far no-one i've asked in chat has wanted to try it together. And if i'm low on food buffs and need to make more, it's still faster to cook by myself than start asking around for someone to cook with. I dunno if i'd need to join some bigger community. But also feels like people in general just rather play solo. and I get that. The most fun I've had with others has been chasing the magic sernuk and magic chapaa. they're also fun to hunt alone, but running across half the map with some others just to catch a blinking magic deer has that nice feeling of playing together. Its also nice when you're mining and you come across randoms who you briefly mine together with. has that sharing is caring kinda feel to it.
Overall the community aspects are very barebones. I know it's a beta but if the game is tooting it's horn as an mmo, they should really prioritize improving those parts of it. no close proximity chat also makes people talk less when they meet in the wild. it feels pretty awkward to talk to one or two specific people near you and the conversation will always be visible to the entire map. You could party up or use whisper but generally peeps dont seem to be interested in that. And the fact that the social tab is bugging out most of the time, not showing any community members online even if there are a bunch. Most of the time adding a friend by the search function doesnt work. Joining another player's server has sent me to a void a few times. And the community chat tab is all kinds of weird and the chat clears itself every time you swap zones, even though community chat is not tied to any zone. The item requesting is a nice feature but should be expanded upon. let community members gift items between them more. or let me send mail to people on my friends list with some item attachments.
I like the general mood in the game though. it feels relaxed and a nice thing to hop into to do some fun tasks and decorating. Overall gives me a wholesome feeling. I like that.
The single player aspects of the game are really promising so far though! The story has piqued my interest a little as i've talked to the npc's more and they've started to talk to me about the history and the world in general. Like i'm already really interested in some areas they're mentioning and some people they talk about. The characters that are in so far are really well fleshed out and majority of them are interesting. The design and voiceacting is also great. I got a really nice feeling when i noticed that the npc's are talking to me more and more casually and friendly as i've gained frienship levels with them. even the voiceacting bits change.
The professions are fun. Fishing and hunting are my personal favorites, although I really wish we had more creatures to hunt. Leveling in general is rewarding and fun. I love to get mail from NPCs. I also love our mysterious blueberry loving friend, hope to hear from them again. Finishing the big bundle was just the right amount of challenging. Can't wait for the next elemental bundles to be added and seeing where that takes the story. Finding the treasure chests in the wild is always fun in any game. Bonus points for the devs for respecting the classics with that treasure behind the waterfall. We all know it's likely there but it still sparks joy when it IS there. lol. And gliding is naturally fun as well. Getting blasted into the air from a geysir and seeing how far can you glide. CAN i get to that bit there? I'm going to try. Several times. Seeing glimpses of the old ruins from some spots really makes me wanna go there. Let me in!!! +_+
This game has scratched my stardew valley -itch somewhat, which is no small feat. It has plenty of flaws and bugs and it does need a lot more content and features. But it is a very solid base to build upon. The beta is now open for everyone to join, so the devs are going to have their hands full with dealing with the influx of users for a while. They've patched in stuff pretty quickly so far! No release date has been announced yet, which i find a good thing. While it does have a good amount of content already, I do feel like it needs more to be a fully launched game and i'd rather them take the time they need with it. I will be sticking with the game seeing where it goes. I doubt i'll have much to do in it after a few weeks from now, but I will be following the development closely for sure! This is a game i'd like to see thrive.
Oh, and i love finding random shiny pebbles and gifting them to a gentle and quirky robot who knows how to appreciate a good shiny pebble. My people.
Here's a friend referral code if anyone is interested to try the game: https://accounts.palia.com/sign-up?referral=10945c08-80af-41df-917a-65761a8904c3
