Francesco left a letter for Novella.
He was confident he would prevail and survive. If that outcome happened he would go to Venice himself and convince his wife to return with him to Florence. He would ask for forgiveness for his accusations and his actions. They didn’t matter now, Lorenzo did not matter and he would be ruler of Florence after Jacopo.
But on the off chance that he did not survive, Francesco wrote a letter to Novella and stuffed it in his desk.
After the demise of the Pazzi, and the sacking of their homes and banks, the letter made it’s way to Clarice. It had been found in Francesco’s desk, but was addressed to Novella, and so the servant who had found it had given it to Clarice.
Clarice kept the letter a secret. Mainly from her husband. In his rage and mourning she doubted the letter would survive if he knew of it. While she too felt the betrayal of the Pazzi and the loss they had inflicted, a part of her felt that the last words of Francesco Pazzi deserved to be heard by whom they were intended for.
Giuliano after all had been allowed no such honor.
So Clarice sent a trusted messenger to deliver the letter to Novella in Venice. When the letter finally reached Novella she sat and stared at it for nearly an hour. The news of her husbands death had come to her along with the letter. She loved her husband and she had cried and mourned for him even though he hurt her. And now he had left her something. She almost didn’t open it. What would there be for him to say?
But she needed to know. She needed to know what he said.
The first thing Francesco does in the letter, is apologize for his actions, and for banishing her from his side. He hates that he hurt her, even if he could not help it. He knew that Jacopo had gotten into his head, and yet he could not stop himself from being eaten away by the plots his uncle had planted. He would go on to say that if he was successful in his venture, she would probably never see this letter. That he would leave for Venice the very moment he could, and be at her side. He needed her. He would be the ruler of Florence one day and she would be his queen.
He would take responsibility of what happened between them. What may or may not have happened between her and Lorenzo would be of no consequence now. But he would note, that, those thoughts planted by Jacopo were no the only reason he sent her away. He sent her away partly because he knew what he had to do to the Medici. He knew that was his path and if she was around, he might not have followed it through. Or worse, if he failed and she was still in Florence, still with him, she may have been implicated and he could not allow that. So he had to send her away.
Francesco goes on to state that if he fails in his venture he would be dead long before this letter reaches her, if it ever does. But if this letter by some miracle does reach Novella after his demise, he wanted her to know that weeks earlier he had sent a private sum of money to her father that would go to her if he were to die. He would let her know that while their marriage did not end on the best of terms, she gave him peace. She gave him a chance to have a life that he never thought he would be worthy of, and he is sorry that he threw it away.
He wanted her to know that his lasts thoughts were of her.
That he would always dream of her.

Francesco is the begrudging sunshine protector. He really doesn't want to be the sunshine protector, but for whatever reason, God keeps giving him sunshines to protect and Francesco can't understand why for the life of him.
First is his brother, who is basically a Sunshine golden retriever and there is no way Francesco is letting anyone hurt him. Then there is his sister-in-law, who is in her own way a sunshine, but also a spitfire, but is small so must also be protected.
Then there is Clarice, who is a sweet small quiet sunshine so Francesco protects her in subtle ways, but would totally destroy anyone who hurt her.
Now God was really pushing his luck with Lorenzo. Like this dude is capable, but also a sunshine himbo, and Francesco is very reluctant to protect him but the final push comes from Guliano being a terrible sunshine protector so Francesco takes over out of spite.
Then finally is Francesco's wife, who let's face it, had Francesco whipped from the moment they met. Will use Giuliano as a human shield to protect her.

when he feels the shove against his shoulder he stumbles a little at first. but instead of leaning against the chair he forces him to fall against it. causing the chair to slip and him to fall against it. he leans against it, his arm draped around the chair leg. the wood of the chair scrapes against the side of her head. he lets out a breath. light, but did he have to push him so hard? he wraps his hand around the chair's leg so that he can pull himself up. now the chair had slammed into his side. and it still ached just a little when he stands up. he touches to it with a wince. a glance towards francesco to see if he was going to notice it or not. light, but he wants him to. he couldn't just go around being bloody violent because he was drunk. it hadn't bee that hard of a shove. but still - light, if he hadn't thr- fallen down he might've tried to shove him again. and then things would have gotten out of hand. he might have even hit him himself.
but instead of all that bloody nonsense mat's reaching his hand out to settle it on francesco's shoulder. he's spotted and his eyes looked dazed, don't they? how much had the idiot had to drink? blood and ashes, was he going to be expected to play nursemaid? not him. no, he was here for a good time, for drinking, dancing, dicing, and all the pretty serving girls. a couple of which had given him a private smile just for him. francesco wasn't going to mess up the night. but he's being a blubbering idiot, isn't he? stumbling around here and starting trouble. as if he thought that he had someone here to pick up after him. mat's tired of even tying to do it. that's the last thing he wanted to do. but instead he squeezing his shoulder, tugging him a little more towards him so that francesco can hear him over the noise of the place. "you're drunk." he says lowering his voice a little though. he doesn't want to cause a bloody scene. "you need to sleep it off..." he adds, tugging him towards the stairs where a few of them have gotten a room. as he leads him away he reaches his hand to clasp onto the back of francesco's neck. "but if you ever hit me again...." he cuts himself off with a small shake of his head. light, did his side still hurt. but francesco is slurring and stumbling on his steps. the bloody idiot needs to get to bed.

Okay I’m sorry I gotta talk about the parallels between these two…
And these two…

There are so many visual and narrative parallels between Cosimo and Rinaldo, and Lorenzo and Francesco. They’re both two sides of the same coin.
But the fundamental difference in their relationship arcs is that where Rinaldo blames Cosimo for his past deeds, Francesco believes that all events were out of their control, that it is fundamentally impossible for any reconciliation to occur, that a friendship between them is impossible.
Albizzi's grudge is fair and one he holds onto despite Cosimo's attempts to apologise and regain his friendship. Their relationship is very much defined by agency and conscious choices that are made at various points in their lives which lead to things unfolding the way they do. It is Albizzi's belief that Cosimo chose to betray him all those years ago. He even says that Cosimo was the one to sacrifice their friendship and that is ultimately why they remain in opposition — it is Rinaldo's choice to hold onto that grudge.
Even Cosimo sees it that way as he talks about how he made his choice many years ago at various points in the series. He knows that by choosing to obey his father (regardless of whether he could have actually done otherwise — see Giovanni’s death threat on his wedding day) meant he could not live the life he wanted. Their fallout is a key moment in understanding their dynamic throughout the series.
Francesco, however, has been constantly told throughout his life that the Medici are the enemy. When he tries to see beyond that, he is swiftly snatched back into these ingrained views. For him, fate keeps him and Lorenzo apart. They can't be together because Medici and Pazzi don't mix. It's all beyond their control.
They have no agency.
Lorenzo doesn’t even seem to see himself as playing any part in the breakdown of their relationship as he happily pins the entirety of the blame on Jacopo (who isn’t blameless by any stretch of the imagination). But Lorenzo still could have done more to show him that he wasn’t simply a pawn to him. He could’ve admitted that he originally invited Novella himself and thus removing anything to be used by Jacopo.
These two dynamics mirror one another so well, but their attitudes towards how that dynamic came to be couldn’t be more different. I love how this show explores these kinds of relationships in the show and how cleverly it crafts such interesting and complex dynamics.

Heyy!! Who's your fav couple in medici? I loved giuliano and simonetta's story it's heartbreaking, it was not lust but true and pure love
I also liked Bianca and guglielmo but their story was kinda incomplete. In s3 we only see bianca but we don't know anything about him. I had a feeling he died. What did you feel? ( ik he outlived bianca in real life but the show is pretty messy with timeliness since bianca died before lorenzo but in the series its the opposite)
I just saw this but I would LOVE to answer. so i think i have to say either clarenzo (clarice and lorenzo) or francesco and novella! i know francesco and novella's relationship soured after a year or two, but i loved how sweet he always was with her, until he suspected her of an affair, that is. he always let himself show her affection, even when they were in front of the public, when it was such a rare side of him.
i always liked giuliano and simonetta, and how they fell in love, but i didn't like that i could see tragedy coming from a mile away. i also didn't know about giuliano's death until watching the show, but i already knew someone would die and then it ended up being both of them, which BROKE my heart.
bianca and guglielmo was never my favorite couple, but i liked that he sided with the medici's for her. he seemed to truly care about her and became more of a medici than a pazzi, but him burning the note... i wanted him dead, though i know he didn't die immediately. i think it's because the medici's were always the ones handing him things and making sure he always had what he needed and always supporting him after jacopo turned a blind eye to him. his betrayal, though small, always made me want to fight him. i also get the feeling he lived well in his exile, even though he was never really seen again, just so that the medici's could say that they were merciful rather than tyrants, despite the fact that lorenzo lowkey turned to being one in the end.
saying that i hate guglielmo also brings in the complication of me saying francesco being my favorite, as he betrayed the only ones who loved him, but we would be fools to think lorenzo wasn't also trying to use him in his own little ways. lorenzo cared for francesco, but lorenzo did keep asking francesco to lowkey betray the pazzi family/let things fall into ruin for them, all to help the medici's. i always felt that if lorenzo had learned from jacopo's mistakes, rather than thinking himself above them, he would have been able to keep francesco as a friend.

Does anyone have any ideas or prompts for the Medicis' fic, (master of Florence TV).
I need despair and angst as much as possible right now. I need a gut wrenching fic where one of them dies or maybe even both.
I would be welcome to write about each pair in the following :)
The pairing of Simonetta and Giuliano is just beautiful, especially their ending. Just beautiful.
Clarice and Lorenzo is by far the best couple. Clarice is literally the brain of the entire family because without her ahem ahem "you go nowhere without my love" THAT LINE punch me right in the face. THERES JUST so much angst and akjdheiwks, how I love this series.
I also love novella and Francesco, I could go on and on about them but if you have any recommendations, please let me know because I am starving 🫡.
