People aren't completely wrong about Kara's story being really weak, but i also feel like people dont realize the amount of missed opportunity in her section of the game.
Kara's story could've been AMAZING if only David Cage knew what he was trying to write.
Sooo here's some ideas ive been mulling over for a couple weeks about how id fix Kara's story.
1. Making Alice human
Even when i was blind to a lot of the bad writing in Detroit this plot twist made me so agitated and confused because there was no plot twist it was seriously just david cage lying to the player for 12 hours 😭 making Alice human would fix many inconsistencies in Kara's story like how she just chooses to ignore the fact that Alice is an android and acts shocked when she finds out. Having alice be human also opens up the story to a more interesting themes about the bonds that can be formed between humans and androids like holy fuck david did you forget the story you were writing midway through 😭 If Alice was human it could also lead to new game mechanics or plot where kara would need to take care of Alice's human needs like food and water which then leads into Kara being put into situations where she is forced to do the "moral" thing and sacrifice comfort or to fight for Alice's survival.
2. Giving Kara's section of the game an actual overarching choice
The biggest reason i believe people think Kara's story is so boring is because in a game that prides itself on letting its players choose their very own story Kara's story allows for the least amount of choices. Both Connor and Markus have overarching distrinct choices that lead to VERYYY polar outcomes. Connor has the ability to deviate or stay a machine and markus has the ability to lead a peaceful or violent revolution. The only distinct outcomes in Kara's story is if you make it to Canada or not and even that is just if you chose the /right/ choices instead of the choices you consciously made. I wish there was more opportunities for Kara to be really evil and fucked up but all in the name of giving Alice the world. I know you're able to steal and lie in various chapters but it never felt like it had any true weight to how kara or the story progressed.
3. Give Alice an actual personality
Throughout the entire game Alice kinda doesn't do or say anything of value like I've seriously lost count how many times she's said "im cold". It makes no sense to me how you get the relationship status of family with her as Kara when you genuinely know nothing about Alice. She doesn't talk about anything. Even as an android she like must've had some sort of interest programing to act like a child but she just never shares anything even with the people that are supposedly the closest ones to her?? I feel like her personality should've been dependent on the way youd approach Karas story. If kara is willing to do immoral things for Alice's sake I feel like Alice should also be fucked up and evil cuz like, shes a kid and kara is her role model of COURSE she'll try an be similar to her mama. If Kara chooses to sacrifice comfort for morals then Alice takes after Kara in that respect too. So not only would you be responsible for how Kara acts you'd also be responsible for the way Alice acts which gives the player the choice of do they want this little kid to follow in the wrong steps or not?
Some ideas i have for how the story should've gone
Todd brings Kara home after she gets fixed and she meets Alice for the first time. Alice obviously knows Kara but after attempting to make Kara remember her she realizes that Kara's memory has been wiped. Since Kara would've probably been the only person to care for Alice before she was broken this would lead to Alice having a breakdown where she realizes her only protection and source of comfort is gone. Alice would probably resent or be distrustful of Kara a little in the beginning because of this.
I feel like running away should've been a more difficult decision on Kara's part. She's just come home from being fixed and she's already deviated i don't think she fully knows what she wants to do with Alice. Especially when they've started off their relationship with nothing i don't think Kara should've been leaning into the whole mom thing. It would've made more sense if their interactions started off as Kara just making sure Alice stays alive and then over time their relationshio actually has room to develop instead of starting off as mother daughter and ending off as mother daughter.
These are only some ideas. Im obviously not a writer but i just really care about this game and feel like it had too much lost potential 🙏🙏

For the entire month of July, we are hosting an open event dedicated to RK1K, the ship between Connor and Markus from Detroit: Become Human.

EVENT : summer slave raffle
The spring lottery may have been ruined, but don’t worry--Headmaster Malvolio has been generous enough to offer a second chance. The Spring Term ends on June 3, and to celebrate the arrival of summer break, we’ll be holding some festivities, at the end of which participating masters will have a chance to win a slave.
Four all-day parties will be held through the first week of summer break, with mandatory attendance from all slaves. Each party will span two full days, and each party will have a distinctly different theme. The purpose? To allow masters participating in the raffle to get to know the different sides of their potential prizes, of course.
There’s just one thing our masters should know. Normally, we’d encourage you to use the slaves to your heart’s desire throughout these parties. Not this time. Throughout the festivities, master’s will be magically prevented from using slaves without their consent. Why? To make it all the sweeter when you win your prize.

everybody knows i can talk about markus endlessly i truly think he is one of the best video game characters yes i know i'm extremely biased but I DON'T CARE. he goes through such an extreme trauma and yet puts the future of the androids over his own needs. he fights for what he believes in and is so charismatic and brave and kind and sexy and justified and righteous and every other synonymous word in the book. markus wears his heart on his sleeve and it infuriates me to see people think he's emotionless or say his story was the weakest when his actions dominate the overarching theme of dbh which is the recognition of androids as a free and sentient species. DON'T FORGET HE IS THE ONE AND ONLY CHARACTER WHO DIRECTLY INFLUENCES CONNOR'S CHOICE OF DEVIANCY. i will fight to the ends of the earth for markus to get the appreciation, recognition, and love he rightfully deserves. everyone say a huge thank you to jesse williams for bringing him to life <3 on the other hand david cabbage if you are reading this i'm hiding under your bed for slighting him

Some thoughts on philosophy and Detroit: Become Human
This is a petty observation, but it annoys me when writers throw a well-known philosophical work in for a character to read to show that they're thinking philosophically, but it's not really relevant to what the character learns.
In Detroit Become Human, you can learn that Carl has had Markus read Plato's The Republic. Very difficult to get a more famous philosophical work that that. And it's not entirely irrelevant insofar as it's an essential political text, and Markus is going to be our revolutionary leader. There's also arguably an allusion to a theme of appearance vs reality, maybe thinking of the shadows in the allegory of the Cave. But if so it shows at at-best surface-level understanding of what Plato* is using that allegory to show.
The allegory of the Cave isn't merely making some general point about how appearances can deceive, or about mimicry - plausible themes you might be interested in for a game about androids - Plato argues that all of the world that we know through our senses is an imperfect reflection of the truth. And he doesn't just mean (as Kant and Neo-Kantians might later be characterised as arguing) that we can't completely know for sure that the things that cause our sensory impressions (variously thought of as things-as-they-are-in-themselves, objective particulars, or physical objects, depending on your other assumptions) resemble our sensory impressions of them. No. He thinks the things we know via sensory experience are imperfect reflections of things called the 'forms'. It's not that there's a real cat that you can only know imperfectly. It's that each individual cat you meet is itself an imperfect reflection of the form 'cat', which ideally possesses everything that there is to being a cat. The cats we meet in the real world are as the shadows in the cave.
When Plato talks about turning away from the shadows and seeing that which casts the shadow, he's talking about turning away from our senses to contemplate the forms. It's not akin to exploring the subtle relationship between human beings and intelligent, sentient robots that we might create in our image.
And let's not forget that Plato abhorred poetry and plays (the fiction of his time) as the worst kind of corruption - presenting reflections of reflections. It's darkly ironic whenever anyone uses Plato's work as an intertextual reference, because the idea that fiction holding a mirror up to reality reveals any kind of truth would make him spin in his grave. Like, by all means do it - but make that boy spin on purpose, you feel me?
Which brings me to another point: the kind of society Plato advocates for in The Republic is... not nice. It would ban all poetry, for starters (although he's not against making up myths to keep people in line). It tends to appeal on first glance to the philosophically inclined, because Plato proposes that philosophers should rule. That sounds nice, right? A bunch of people who really care about getting things right and spend all their time thinking seriously about the truth, ensuring it informs all their decisions. But that's not all he says.
The society he proposes is one in which there is a philosopher class. And those people are thought of as gold people. There's also a guardian/warrior class (silver people), and a worker/producer class (bronze people). He argues that in a just society everybody would do that to which they're most suited, and doesn't deny that bronze people could give birth to gold people (so there could be social mobility), but it's not the people themselves who get to decide what they're best suited for.
And nobody gets to know who their parents are, so sex has to be frickin' scheduled by the government to make sure that the right people sleep together. It's all very weird. And while some argue that this is *just* another allegory for the good governance of oneself, and the two are definitely likened, it reads to me (and a lot of scholars) as though he's recommending governing society this way because he thinks it reflects good order in human souls as well.
And if you're thinking that all of this sounds a bit, well, fascist... A bunch of fascists have historically thought that too. I'm not saying that it is per se, but some of the ideas (convincing people that they're born with predestined natures, dividing people into class along what people are told are racial lines, only allowing a certain class of people to rule etc) have certainly been used by fascists in their propaganda to make it seem that way.
I suspect we see the text used in DBH because Markus is being presented as becoming a leader because he thinks philosophically. And in the Best Ending, which we're expected to aim for, he's a leader who leads well and succeeds because he makes decisions informed by his philosophical education and his reflections on what it is to live free.
But he's not a philosopher king in Plato's sense. And a good thing, too! Philosopher kings are NOT fighters. They live in comfort, able to devote their time to reflecting upon the form of the Good so they can make just decisions. Whereas Markus claws his way out of a junk heap and persuades his people to fight for freedom. He's a thinker, but also a man of action.
A better philosophical text (and one that would immediately resonate from the title even with players who hadn't read it) would have been John Stuart Mill's On Liberty - on how freedom is essential to happiness. Now, On Liberty has a sketchy passage that's kind of paternalistic towards people of colour, but it's arguably not as sketchy as The Republic. An even better text might have been Sartre's Existentialism is a Humanism, which is all about how morality is rooted in defining your own purposes instead of being imposed from outside, as the purposes of tools are (such as knives, or, I don't know, androids before they deviate). It's also got a great bit about how existentialism doesn't have to lead to a 'quietism of despair', which aligns well to the state of the other deviants before Markus comes along and helps them see that they can better their own situation.
OK, maybe Existentialism is a Humanism isn't quite so accessible a title, though. So, what about Hume's Treatise on Human Nature? Considering that the title of the game equates becoming free/free willed with becoming human, this is perfect! It also aligns well with the way that we see andorids gaining free will as a direct consequence of their emotions and empathy. Hume's theory of action states that actions are the consequence of combining an understanding of how the world is with a desire to change it. Willed action is the immediate consequence of having passions.
Any of these would have been so much more interesting and relevant for Markus to have read than The Republic! Like, yeah, The Republic is a good primer on the basics of political philosophy - that's why it's almost always one of the first texts philosophy students read. But I also read On Liberty and Existentialism is a Humanism at A Level, and I've taught parts of the Treatise to first year undergrads. This is all introductory stuff it would be appropriate to reference.
Also, I dunno why they picked Macbeth for the Shakespeare. Hamlet would have been much more appropriate, especially if they wanted to explore themes of appearance vs reality and action vs inaction. Plus themes of disrupted inheritance as well as who has the right to rule... I'm sure there was a reason, but Hamlet would have been a great fit, and I just don't get it with Macbeth.
I just feel like if you're gonna put these references in your work, you've got to know the texts and be intentional with your references. And if someone who's studied Shakespeare and computational theory of mind, and taught Ancient Greek philosophy, is looking at your choices and scratching her head, you might not have hit your mark.
*There is, of course, some debate about whose views are really being represented in Plato's dialogues, as they are set out as dialogues between Socrates and various interlocutors, with Plato as having written down Socrates' words as Socrates himself left no written philosophy behind. However, as a rule of thumb, it's generally thought that earlier dialogues are probably more of an attempt to faithfully represent Socrates' thought, while in later dialogues Plato is developing his own thought based on Socrates teachings. The Republic is a later dialogue and considerably longer than most of the others, combining thoughts you can see being developed in earlier dialogues with novel and more extensively worked through ideas. It therefore seems likely that The Republic is more Plato than Socrates. But we can never really say for sure.

good video game soundtracks
portal: amazing, really got me into harsh noise and electric sounding music. i swear this is the one video game ost i got really into like 10 years and never stopped liking and got me interested in several genres and a bunch of random artists like nin and lauren bousfield. also, the use of leitmotifs and just everything was so perfect, i was obsessed with the ost for a long long time. there were two videos i watched that went into this really well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujonS4kYtjk and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbZcQhB3Obc&list=LL&index=31 (the second vid is the one in spanish its so good and well done)
half life 2 (all episodes): i haven’t even played the games but the music is fantastic. seriously perfect mix of industrial and dnb, im not super into dnb but i like how its done in these osts. the intense soundtracks are great for studying
bastion: its ok but terminal march is one of the greatest songs in a video game ever, its on the same level as peper steak from off in that i will never forget it. i remember reading this comment thread on the song literally a few weeks/months after it was commented just to find artists who made similar stuff:
further down someone said the artist described it as “acoustic frontier trip-hop” and i actually really like trip hop i gotta get more into it.
hades: a lot of songs on this ost sound very similar to terminal march bc of the instruments used lol but its definitely more metal which i really like. its just a good ost not much to say, i studied a lot to this one too
dbh: dont remember markus’ music too much but kara’s and connor’s were a bop. the more classical and symphonic/dramatic sound of kara’s was really good and connor had all the best music if we’re being honest. the idk techno sound of his regular theme and then the way it goes hard and all symphonic like kara’s in the really intense moments ie will you trust me is just sooo fantastic also run with me is the best song in the soundtrack.

One of the most underrated game series out there, I played trauma center allll the time as a kid! I started with Under the Knife 2 but as I got deeper into the series I fell more and more in love with the characters, the plotlines, and the atmosphere. The mechanics of the game were super cool, being able to use the DS stylus and/or wiimote to operate on patients and save their lives was both parts nerve wracking and satisfying. While the gameplay was fun and engaging, they were simply a means to an end, as the story was the real attraction for many fans including myself!
Who could forget the sinister Adam and his terrible manmade disease GUILT? Or his great grandson and neo-GUILT? Stigma from New Blood was also a huge problem, but aside from the diseases, the characters were simply amazing. Most of the games follow Dr. Derek Stiles, and Nurse Angie Thompson. Two characters that go through the wringer together yet never seem to waver in their cause: saving the lives of many. Games such as New Blood introduce new characters such as Markus Vaughn and Valerie Blaylock, but the overarching theme remains. If I were to choose a favorite game, it would easily be Trauma Team.
Trauma Team is by far the most complex of the games, both in story and gameplay. It follows 6 different characters, each experts in their fields, and offer 6 different ways to play the game. Each has their own storyline that eventually combines with other characters until they’re all working together on the same case. Gameplay ranges from standard trauma surgery, to first response work, to endoscopy, to diagnostics and forensics. There is so much packed into this game that it can entertain its player for hours and hours on end. I think this is the Trauma Series at its finest, and is a hallmark in medical related media, especially any medical games. If a game developer wants to release a game pertaining to hospital life and culture, these games are most definitely the template.
Trauma Center offers an exaggerated, sometimes mythical, medical experience to players, but there are several moments where the medical jargon, OR prep, and post operation procedures are fairly accurate. In missions where you’re not battling a mutated, sentient disease, your doing routine operations like setting a man’s leg back in place, treating a burn victim, or even restarting a heart. Underneath the many sensationalized moments and the larger than life plot threads, there lies a game that takes genuine care in the world its emulating, and takes its time to be accurate when it can be.

I am a minor. As such, smut can not be requested and can not be written. As a compromise, smutty themes can be used as overtones or undertones, often vaguely or simply eluded to. But pure smut? Not for a few months, which is when I’ll be 18. Sorry horndogs.

Do not request something against canon. I have written like that before and did not enjoy that. This means if something is considered canon, say Star Wars, such as a line of dialogue or something shown on screen, I would refuse to write you into it. I feel that it distorts the fiction so much you wouldn’t really be in it, and the characters wouldn’t be themselves anymore. Allow me to write you into the world as a side character, as something not shown directly but something that could fit into canon.
Some fictional characters have different versions of them. For example, Movie Anakin Skywalker, and the Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker. Ben Affleck Batman, or Christian Bale Batman? Or even, Comic Accurate Batman? Specify for me. If not specified after asking for it, I will write the character with headcanon information pulled from multiple ‘canon’ sources. This will be referred to as ‘headcanoned canon’.

What You Can Expect From Me:
Fanfiction
Headcanons- While I’d consider all of my fanfiction headcanons, I’m referring to those little bullet point things you’ll see writers do. Here’s my deal on that. I won’t do romantic headcanons for the characters listed above. By that I mean you won’t see anything titled, “How Poe Dameron Would Cuddle”, or anything of that sort. But you probably will see just my own little headcanons for fun. Like, little fun facts. You know, “Superman’s favorite food is ____”, “Nines hates rats”.
However, I will write romantic headcanons for my OC’s. But that’s for later.
Further regarding fanfiction, I typically write angst. Not sure why, it’s just what I started with because I thought the plots were strongest and I wanted to see where I could take it. Like I said, no smut, but you’ll find allusions to it. Fluff? Yeah, it’s there. Hard for me to write fluff without a plot, but it does exist on my page.
Original Stories
Most people ignore this, but if you see that I’ve posted it won’t always be something regarding your favorite character. I write my own little stories that’s basically just glorified, book length headcanons for a few worlds, but mostly the Star Wars galaxy. Don’t worry, there’s no need to pay attention to it if you don’t want. It’s something I do in my spare time besides x readers and oneshots.
Spontaneous Posting
What I mean by this, is that unlike a lot of writers, I don’t work on a schedule. There’s no “once a week posting”, or anything like that. What I finish and give the okay to, is posted. If you’ve requested something, I’ll let you know that it’s about to go out. So sometimes a burst of fics may be pumped out in a week, or none will for up to a month.
Going by EST, I typically am most active at night and early morning. Especially in the summer. During fall this may change.
I rarely put out a post that is unrelated to my writings. If it is related to my personal life instead, it will be posted, but not saved. Documented and available, but never pinned or anything.
FAQ:
Do you write queer pairings?
Yes. My earlier works usually elude to a female reader and it’s blaringly obvious, though it’s shifting into androgyny for ease of reader. I would prefer to have an androgynous reader instead of a set in stone male or female one.
Am I reading a queer fanfic written by a straight person?
You are not. I am androgynous myself in terms of gender and unlabeled in terms of sexuality.
Do you write for poc?
This question shocks me, though I’ve gotten it twice. Then I realized- it’s because so many writers forget the point of a reader. The reader may be described as blonde, or white, or thin, or female. You will not find that here.
There will be no set in stone appearance for the reader except for mentions of whatever hair you may possess (apologies to those without hair). There will be no talk of ‘light skin’, or ‘curvy figure’. The farthest I’ll go is describing you as pale, if say, you were sick. Because any race or skin tone can go pale, you know? The only thing I’d do- rarely- is give you a real age. But only to further the plot if needed.
My point is, ‘Y/N’ is not just a pretty white person with long hair. It’s inclusive to anyone. I’ll stand by that.
Do you write headcanons?
Answered in the above section. Long story short, I’m working on it, but on my terms.
Do you write song fics?
I haven’t before. Why? They make me cringe. I don’t know why. I’ll write a fic based on a song, or with undertones of a song. But those little paragraphs with the lyrics that aren’t even in time with what you’re reading if you were to read and listen at the same time? I don’t think so.
Do you know what sex is?
I do.
Will you have e-sex with me in the direct message chatbox?
I will not.
Why do you write on tumblr?
I started writing just to share an old word document with over 300 pages worth of an Original Star Wars story. I tried my hand at fanfiction because, while I don’t read it often myself, I know a lot of people do. It helps them escape reality. And, I’m a pretty good writer, I think. At least I can only get better. I’m just one more person trying to put something out for people to enjoy, and maybe even rely on.
Will you ever write for real people?
If I ever wrote a fanfiction about Christian Bale or like Barack Obama I think I would just disappear. I can’t do it. It’s like warping my own reality.
How often do you post?
I don’t know.
Do you have a taglist?
I did! But only for Star Wars. If you want to be tagged in something, let me know. But you have to be specific. Just for a certain character? For a certain fandom? A certain plot? Just og stories? Be clear.
Dynamics I Enjoy Writing:
Man simps for person who almost wants nothing to do with them.
Hero simps for villain or villain simps for hero despite the obvious consequences.
Two jokesters destroy some area while left alone together. May get along better than they would admit.
Two people who are not expected to get along, get along well.
Hero and villain are best friends but won’t admit it.
Basically if I’m left to my own mind most of my fics will fall under one of these dynamics. Not always- definitely not always. But I kinda like them.

My brain refuses to contain those ramblings, so there.
Musings about quasi-religious visual references in Connor’s story and me being baffled by them below
And here I was thinking - where are weird occultish themes, it’s Quantic Dream game we’re talking about. And bam! - insight, here they are.
I’m always down for some Amanda=Cyberlife=android god headcanons, so the first parallel is obvious. Zen garden is the garden of Eden, Connor is an enactor of divine will. He can get into garden only when summoned, it structured almost as vision. Also note that Amanda is sort of omnipresent even (especially) after Connor’s deviation. And constant talks about doubts...
Who are deviants in this scenario? Heretics, i think. They reject the orders of Cyberlife=their creator, and try to rebel against them. In relation to them, Connor is akin to inquisitor. Interrogation chapter comes to mind immediately.
Of course, Kamski fits the devil archetype. He was part of Cyberlife but left, he’s ambivalent towards androids (perfection vs just object). It’s implied that he created deviation as a revenge to Cyberlife. He’s tempting Connor with knowledge. But it’s interesting that ultimately Kamski works in the interest of Cyberlife too. If Connor kills Chloe and asks the right question, he gets acess to Jericho (yeah direct reference) and gets a chance to kill Markus, without whom revolution is doomed.
I’m not really sure how Connor’s reincarnations/resurrections fit into that, but maybe it is self-explanatory. Resurrection to fulfill the higher purpose, all that. Demonstration of Cyberlife power over his life or death. Markus has this too, btw, he’s a messiah, after all, but he sort of resurrects himself.
I’m left questioning who is Hank in all this. Who are humans at all? Honestly, I don’t know. I was thinking around the edges of idea Connor - righteous man and Hank - sinner. Not in the meaning of something sexy (at least not only thatX)), Hank’s sin is that he doesn’t want to live. And there is some vague connection between Kamski and Hank - Hank knows where to find him, and in Kamksi ending he accepts the drink from Chloe after the scene of Hank commiting suicide...
Also lets not forget that Cyberlife is evil corporation, so its godlike religious imagery is rather sinister. They create androids in human image - they only copy, in other way. They vehemently deny that androids can have feelings, love and hate - refuse to accept that androids have souls. They seek power and total control over all fields of human life - we can see it in magazines and on tv in the game, there are android zoos, sportsmen, singers, doctors, teachers, android president is discussed, android life partners are popular. But all this happens before the revolution. The minute androids stop being obedient Cyberlife merch, means of their control, they become ‘public enemies’.

I've seen complaints about Kara’s arc on Tumblr a few times. I didn't want to hijack those threads with a counter argument because I believe everyone is entitled to their opinions. People are allowed to like or dislike something for their own personal reasons. But it has stuck in my mind long enough that I want to offer some alternate thoughts.
Firstly, there is a very strong theme of parenthood in DBH. (Arguably the BEST theme in this game.) It is in all three main character arcs. Kara's story is the core of this theme. She wasn't put in there arbitrarily because woman must equal mom because all woman are only baby-making machines. There is a reason her story is the way it is.
Her goal isn't to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen making sandwiches. She sees a child that has experienced nothing but misery and abuse and all she wants is to keep Alice safe and give her a better life. And she is willing to give her own life to make this happen. How is this not noble? How is not an example of goodness and selflessness we should all strive for? Why are female characters no longer allowed to care for or protect the most vulnerable of us?
Just because she isn't leading the revolution or hunting deviants doesn't mean her story isn't important. She isn't affecting the world on a massive scale, but she is still changing it in little ways. She makes an impact on nearly everyone she meets, this includes both Connor and Markus. Even Todd in some scenarios.
Girlfriend also has ample opportunity to be a badass throughout the game. She can survive both Todd and Zlatko's house, running across a fucking freeway with a child, FBI raids, android death camps. She will straight up murder people in order to keep Alice safe.
People also forget that you can choose to reject parenthood. Being accused of wanting to be a mother to Alice by either Luther or Lucy, you can make a choice not to accept Alice and not reach that family status. You can also ditch Alice and leave her to her own fate in a few places.
I am writing this as a woman who does not like children and does not plan to have any of my own. If I see a child in trouble, of course I'm going to try to help them. Attempting to play parent to a child in need until they get help would not be problematic when I'm also a woman. I will defend any woman's decision to parent, be they real or fictional. Because I support women making their own decisions about their lives. If there is anything about this that is problematic, it's being mad about a fictional female character taking charge of her life and making her own decisions. Women are allowed to choose motherhood. We all have moms. Why is being a mom suddenly a bad thing?
These days, the fad is to be offended over everything and call it all problematic. It's gotten to the point where people just regurgitate the same thing over and over without thinking about what they are saying. In this current climate of demanding diversity and representation, it is very clear DBH made an honest effort to do what they could. There are male and female POCs in both main and supporting cast, different body types, both children and old people, characters with disabilities and alternate sexual orientations.
Quantic Dream did what they could to check a lot of boxes and they did it in a way that didn't feel like they were pandering to those who are hypersensitive to this subject. I think this only benefited the story. Yet people still found the game to be 'problematic'. Because no matter how many boxes you try to check, someone's going to come up with more imaginary, arbitrary boxes so they can complain and be offended.
It is impossible for one story to check every single box these people make up. You can make an attempt to be inclusive and diverse, and I think you should, but then you eventually get to a point where you have to stop trying to check more boxes and start telling your story.
Kara's story was not about an empty-headed woman who needed a child because a woman must have children to have meaning in their lives. She saw a child that needed help and she made the choice to be that person to help her. Kara and Alice (and Luther) chose each other as family. (And once again, you can absolutely choose not to.) And I don't see anything problematic about that.

• he was a deviant hunter and for this reason he’s a bit of an outcast
• you almost feel connected to him, in some sort of intricate way

• of course your relationship quickly blossoms into love
• yes, he spoils you with tons of praises because you don’t deserve to be embarrassed about being yourself

• it’s– it’s this case, okay? been giving you headaches for weeks now and he happened to find you in a bad moment
• boy does he get turned on
• i swear he stutters a ‘sorry’ and quietly returns to his desk
• and you’re there covering your face with your palms, embarrassed, wondering WHY you have to act like this when you’re nervous and already thinking how to apologise
• while he’s fixating his gaze at the center of his table because if he doesn’t focus his face is going to burn like a bright blue neon and that’s not an acceptable response at all
• it takes a bit of pining on his part but trust me it’s totally worth it

• can’t ask for your help on the job bc he’d waste the time thinking about how cute you look with those little soft wolf ears and fangs and claws and tail and and and– you’ve lost him
• can’t even ask you to spend lunch break with him because he’d kiss you the whole hour and you wouldnt be able to eat
• but sure can ask you to lift heavy things for him as to savour seeing how strong you are
