Star Trek: Prodigy- Nostalgia degrades over time, and is almost always inaccurate. Nostalgia can literally poison a fandom.

I used to think Ready Player One was unrealistic for having kids in the 2040s be obsessed with the 1980s, but apparently that was prophetic because the entire entertainment industry refuses to touch anything else. By the time the 40s roll around, all the people who were kids in the 10s and 20s will be nostalgic for the 80s nostalgia they had forced down their throats, and the cycle will begin anew (if it ever even ends...)

I hate the 1980s with a burning passion. That entire decade is a curse from which we will never be free.

i have a very specific picture of a hypothetical drizzt anime floating in my head and it’s like, done in that very 2000s anime aesthetic. none of the new, shiny styles that characterize most of modern animation, it needs to have the kind of feel to it that doesn’t look too polished but looks like it could fit perfectly onto a grainy 480p 3-part episode on a youtube playlist with slightly wonky fansubs

I find it absolutely fascinating that liminal haunted house horror got a huge spike in popularity not too long after the start of a traumatic global event that forced us all involuntarily into our homes for uncomfortably long amounts of time.

It's fun finding cultural anxieties in horror, man.

#certainly this stuff was around beforehand and I've been a huge fan of a lot of it for decades-#but it's fascinating watching certain subgenres of horror pop up in response to cultural anxieties #like- I have a whole side theory about the nostalgia poisoning in American media and the prevalence of mascot horror #also analog horror with just how rapidly technology has been advancing over this past century and how quickly things are becoming obsolete #vessel talk #horror #(theres also been a surge in the popularity of cosmic horror which I think is a very understandable response to something like a pandemic)
