Beyond Fabric x Norwegian Rain
A while back I was challenged by T-Michael and Alex over at Norwegian Rain to rethink modern officewear using some of their most classic raincoats. A sort of a social experiment aimed at registering a moment in time and context, that portrays my interpretation of professional attires in 2023.
Inspired by 3 of Norwegian Rain’s weatherproof styles, I put together 3 different looks I could wear to work in a not overly formal environment. Breaking down the traditional suit and tie paradigm, all 3 proposals are polished and sophisticated, with their own unique twists.
The first, depicted here, is a vintage-inspired combination that feels fresh by incorporating the raincoat’s technical fabric and a raw hemmed flannel sports jacket. On the more classic end, we have a stripped club collar shirt and wool tie, paired with off white corduroy trousers.

Queen Maud of Norway, Jay's evening dress, machine-woven silk fabric, silk tulle and metal lace, hand-embroidered with metal and plastic sequins, plastic straws, artificial diamonds and pearls, machine- and hand-stitched, early 1920s.
Queen Maud of Norway was renowned for her stylish dress. Daughter of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, she was born a princess and became Queen of Norway in 1905. She had exemplary taste and a strong interest in fashion, and her royal lifestyle required appropriate dress for every occasion. Her wardrobe includes a range of stunning creations dating from her wedding trousseau of 1896 to the latest House of Worth designs purchased just months before her death in 1938.

I’m supposed to be working but I have Bunad Brain so I can’t stop thinking about my favorite modern trend: the Fantasistakk (Fantasy Dress) in which you do literally whatever you want with the materials and traditional techniques you have at hand, condemning all regional convensions put in place in the early 1900′s, and make a dress your peasant ancestors probably would have offered their first born to the Hulder for. It’s so good.
Most of these are from Eva Lie Design except for no. 4 & 5 that are by Embla Bunader
the ones by Eva Lie are designer and known for pushing the boundaries, while Embla is more affordable and less extravagant. Though some of the coolest examples of Fantasistakk I’ve seen have been the ones people design and sew themselves, that I’ve just happened to see on the street, and it’s just so good I love this trend I hope it never dies

Beyond Fabric x Norwegian Rain #2
The third look of the Norwegian Rain series features a contemporary take on the traditional three piece suit.
Well, let’s face it, any suit by T-Michael despite being rooted in tailoring techniques is far from traditional per se, so I took the opportunity to play with length and proportions. A timeless navy suit paired with a long tunic and loafers that matched beautifully the tan of the raincoat.
