Avatar plot twist where near the end of season 3 they figure out that Sokka Is actually A Bender! But, he is actually A Firebender! He was Zuko this entire time in disguise! When I say he was Zuko, I mean the bald ponytail Zuko (aka pre-character development) So! He starts to attempt to capture aang! But then who is this long haired Zuko dude that’s still with the team??? THATS ACTUALLY LEE FROM THE TEA SHOP! HE WAS BRAINWASHED BY THE DAI LI INTO THINKING HE WAS LONG HAIRED ZUKO (aka character development) THIS WHOLE TIME!

Our duty (Part 1)
this is an AU where Yue lives and Hakoda is chosen as the king of the entire southern water tribe,
part 2: https://www.tumblr.com/the-air-nomad/719125972910309376/our-duty-part-2?source=share
Tumblr media
Five years had passed since the end of the Hundred Years War. After Ozai's defeat, the lives of avatar Aang and his friends had become even more charged than they were during the war. The avatar and his girlfriend, respected maestra Katara, were working on finding the remains of the air nomad culture and on preparing their wedding. Toph, the most powerful earthbender , had founded the first metalbending school in the world, and all the young people in the earth kingdom hoped to have the honor of becoming her students. The fire lord worked tirelessly to restore ties with the other nations and eliminate propaganda and Ozai's loyalists left after the war.
Sokka, now the crown prince of the Southern Water Tribe, had made countless diplomatic trips to other nations to facilitate the growing development of the South. Thanks to his inventions, his tribe had become an important industrial and cultural center. The prince even founded the first University of Engineering and Exact Sciences in the world. Although Sokka loved helping his people and considered his father one of the wisest people in the world, he could not understand the logic of his new decision.
Sokka: To recap, you want me to break up with Suki to arrange my marriage with the girl I left almost 6 years ago to continue my journey with the avatar.
Hakoda: Sokka, you know that your relationship with Suki is already over because you both have different debts to your people. She moved permanently to the island of Kyoshi to train the next generation of fighters. You have to prepare to take over the leadership, and for that you need a wife
Sokka: From what I can see, the fact that you don't have a wife doesn't stop you from being an extraordinary leader. However, don't tell Katara that I said that because I don't want to spend the rest of my life buried in ice.
Hakoda: sometimes I forget that you inherited both my sarcasm and intelligence my son. I was afraid that I would have to burden you with another state problem.
Sokka: what are you talking about dad?
Hakoda: you see my dear, technically our tribe is still a colony of the northern water tribe. Not even the fact that the North ignored the South for a hundred years doesn't change that. With the help of Master Pakku, former General Iroh and the fact that your sister is engaged to the avatar we managed to get an agreement with Chief Arnook.
Sokka: And why didn't I find out about this sooner? Father, I fought in the war and I am your heir! How can you hide such a thing from me?!
Hakoda: Now is not the time to ask or offer explanations, but I swear this is the last thing I'm hiding from you. In a few weeks, a convoy of northern ships loaded with waterbenders will arrive in the South with the Chief and his daughter.
Sokka: maybe it's just the paranoia installed in the marrow of my bones due to the war, but this sounds quite threatening.
Hakoda: I'm afraid you're right and that if we refuse the generous offer of the Nordic Tribe, we'll get a civil war instead of independence.
Sokka: wonderful, this is the best present for my 21st birthday! Why does the universe hate me so much?!
Although I do not own the characters from avatar the last airbender, this work belongs to me! I sincerely hope you liked it and please rate it and leave a comment! follow me to see the continuation and to see my next posts! 💖💖💨

a few days ago, I revived my years old hyperfixation. so what better way to keep it in memory than to make an AU based on it with my current special interest <-- has happened several times before
I present to you all: ttte atla AU! set in an era (or rather alternate universe) where the hundred year war didn't happen, the air nomads are still around, and the main conflict -- though it still came from the same source which is the fire nation -- is different now; which is a crazed nonbender scientist from the fire nation with a strong dislike for bending arts and having his own army of technology-boosted soldiers

i saw this post about probending zuko and got swept up in the euphoria of planning a zukka probending au before remembering sokka doesn't bend.
so anyway. pro bending sokka where he gets high on cactus juice and gets in an argument with katara and registers himself as a jerkbender, saying "i (hic) totally (hic) bet you i can beat all of you in pro bending tournament" and signs up high off his ass
he wakes up in the morning with Regret. But is too stubborn and arrogant to back down. so he goes. after all, he fights benders all the time, right? (he realizes one mistake when he's not allowed to bring weapons into the ring and is plopped into the arena completely defenseless)
he manages to beat the first few in a combination of smarts and dump luck. And yeah he gets bruised a lot but there's no way he's going to let katara say "i told you so" This is now for non benders Everywhere, okay?
and so he gets better about using the arena and the benders' strengths against them and his plans and he gets into further and further along. And maybe he spars and practices with Zuko because they're on opposite ends of the bracket and haven't fought each other yet. And Sokka always beats Zuko in swords but now the tables are turned, and how the hell is he going to beat Zuko at probending when he can't even take his eyes off his crush to spar?

there obv IS a prevalent and aggravating trend of stories having an antagonist who correctly identifies a flaw in society and aims to fix it but also commits atrocities along the way that the narrative claims to undermine the entire goal and then when the hero defeats them it is in the name of the status quo - but people sometimes point to legend of korra as an example of this which is so annoying bc like man how can you not understand a show written for children. every single season ends with korra defeating the villains and then saying "they had some points tho!" and then changing the status quo to address the flaw the villain identified

For some reason people like to pu the Gaang against Korra's team and make fun of Korra's team for being weaker.
Like yeah... ofc they are. The Gaang wasn't just Aangs team, the Gaang was his teachers and peers. Each bender on that team learned from the respective source of their respective bending, and with the exception of toph they learned alongside aang. they were also on the quest to master all four elements in a year. zuko was training to be the firelord, toph's bending had been honed with the badger moles since she was a child and then honed more in the wrestling arena, aang had already been an airbending prodigy beforehand, and katara's sheer balls and her creativity made her an amazing bender. in my honest opinion the only thing keeping aang from being the weakest bender in the gaang was the fact that he was the avatar and his airbending abilities, cause he is not healing ppl back to life, toph, or breathing fire. korra's team isnt as strong because like, obviously they never needed to be. mako and bolin were athletes. mako could lighting bend and bolin could lava bend, but their training wasn't as intensive or war ready as the training of the freaking next in line for the firelord or someone who needed to use her bending to navigate her life independently. they were training to win at a very specific game, and their other bending forms just weren't honed for that level of combat. korra never got to train with any of the original sources of her bending, but she was still an extremely powerful avatar, and the most powerful bender on her team because she had been training with dicipline in order to actually fight, now knock people off a ring in pro bending. if youve gotten this far im sure youre noticing something that is very clearly missing from this post. the nonbenders. honestly, i can't compare sokka and asami. why? i dont remember if asami knows how to chi block or not. she'd been trained in self defense i know, and they are both very capable intellectually and have fighting styles that give them the edge even against benders, which is super impressive. granted, i cannot remember if asami fights much without the stun glove, and i don't remember what level asami was fighting at if she did. under the impression that asami can chi block, i would say that she and sokka are pretty evenly matched.

in a lot of non-bending aus zuko's scar is a result of his fathers physical abuse, but like what if it was his neglect and emotional abuse? what if young zuko loses his footing at the fireplace while his father is off doing something 'more important'? what if he gets them into a horrible car accident (drinking and driving, forgetting he has a child in the car, threatening and controlling teenage zuko by saying he could crash the car this instant and then he just loses control)? even just azula and zuko messing around with lighters as kids because they think its fun, and no one is around to keep them safe?

In my opinion, one of the most interesting stories in the atla universe was that of Kanna (Gran-Gran) and I always wanted to know more about her adventures. The fact that she managed to travel alone, during a war, to the other side of the world is impressive, considering that she was not a bender and had not been taught anything about how to fight. Also, she left everything she knew behind and more than likely had some hilarious shocks when she discovered people with extremely different cultures from the one she had known all her life.
I don’t own Avatar The Last Airbender, even if I always wanted to 😢
