warnings: angst to fluff, scaramouche is not the best at comforting people but he tries, mentions of death, spoiler for his past, no proofread i'm currently having so many ideas with our gremlin

✧ considering scaramouche is a puppet, he usually does not require sleep in the same was mortals do

✧ when he 'sleeps' he's rather just resting his eyes and enjoying the silence the night offers, or the subtle sounds of nature he could hear while wandering on his own - although, closing his eyes at time does bring back unwanted memories from a time long past, so he has also come to hate 'resting' as much as emotions

✧ when you decide to head to bed, he usually just sits next to you or lays down with you, but doesn't really sleep - he's more prone to watch you fall asleep, noting silently to himself how your chest gently rises and falls or how occasionally you'd move in your sleep to adjust your position

✧ sometimes you'd even snuggle up to him, something he often tells you he despises once you wake up (however, he'd never tell you to stop doing it)

✧ i kind of believe he would do this simply to distract himself and because it's somewhat interesting to him

✧ one night, when he returned to you a little later than usual where you already happened to be fast asleep, he wasted no time to follow his usual routine of sitting down next to you and just watching you sleep in silence creep

✧ however, the silent sniffles coming from you did disturb him and scaramouche wasted no time to check on what was going on, only to see your eyelids twitch and your stressed expression as you cried in your sleep - seeing that, he couldn't really help himself but frown

✧ at that point it was clear as day to him that you were having a nightmare and this man had the audacity to sigh as he noticed

✧ that moment he began to think, should he wake you up or just leave you be? what were you dreaming of that caused you to cry like this? he had never really seen you have an actual nightmare from which you started crying in your sleep. was there something troubling you?

✧ back to a time where he still was a nameless prototype of a puppet, when he cried in his sleep he was discarded for being 'too weak to rule'. from that he learnt that crying equals weakness, something that he restrained to show to anyone, even you

✧ his vulnerabilities only show in his snarky and unlikeable personality, one that causes people to stay far away from him and not interact with him any further than necessary

✧ were you weak for crying? maybe. but still he felt something tug at his nonexistent heart that eventually caused his body to move on his own when he taps your shoulder repeatedly, calling your name in hushed whispers and furrowed eyebrows

✧ when you wake up, he can see himself reflecting in your eyes - scared, vulnerable and alone, and he notes how you need a few seconds to compose yourself as you glance up to him with glassy eyes and tears still running down your face (tears that you immediately try to wipe away and hide from his somewhat judgmental mind)

✧ his voice isn't exactly soft when he asks you what's going on, it almost sounds as if he was interrogating you about what you dreamt of. you can tell he's trying but that he is unsure about what to ask

✧ after you told him what exactly your dream was about, because of the death of a loved person you silently mourned after, he just sighs again

✧ however, much unlike him and what you know about scaramouche, he pulls you closer to himself and tells you to rest, promising you in a tone you never believed he could speak in that you'd be alright

✧ in all honesty, scaramouche doesn't know what he's doing. he's doing what he had withnessed people doing to help their loved ones, and despite his stonecold facade he's desperate to see you happy and smiling

✧ knowing that their death must hurt you, he doesn't mind if you cling onto him even tighter, crying quietly into his shoulder and keeping your arms wrapped around him as he keeps you close to him

✧ he doesn't say a lot as he 'tries' to comfort you, because he knows that his words end up being harsher than they should be - he knows what he could say but he feels like as if all these things would be outlandish of him to say to you, so he decides to just comfort you in a way he probably would've wanted to be comforted back then

✧ if you manage to fall asleep, scaramouche won't immediately lay you down again, but keep you close to his chest where he can actually be sure to see you and make sure you're actually sleeping well - he might even take pride in how easily you fell asleep in his arms, despite his lack of actual warmth

✧ scaramouche is no man of big words because he feels like they don't matter. humans talk to much and do so little to keep true to their words, so he learnt to let only actions speak for themselves, something he believes does also help you

✧ true to his promise however, any stray tear that might roll down your cheeks during your sleep will gently be wiped away his hand, though he feels weird doing something like that

✧ if you wake up in the morning, you'll probably back in bed, with him sitting there and waiting for you to wake up already. he might not talk about what happened during the night, but if you try to explain yourself to him he will simply shut you down - he doesn't need to hear it and he doesn't care (or atleast that's what he claims, he actually does care)

✧ and even if it might go unnoticed for you during the day, you can notice that he's a lot more softer around you, asking you multiple times throughout the day about how you're feeling and his words don't carry the same attitude behind them when he talks to you

✧ unlike his creator, his mother, he won't abandon you like she did. but please bear with him trying to actually comfort you because he sucks at doing that

✧ he means well, trust me

So, just curious how many writers and creators will have to be forcibly outed by relentless harassment before we acknowledge that "This queer characters was written by a cishet person and that's why they're bad" is not good criticism.

Burnt bridges

seeing a lot of talk of the season 5 finale, which is fun, i get that it was controversial (honestly the fact it was really risky is kind of one of the things i like about it lol) and wanting to add my two cents but can't think of much i haven't already said before

but something i do want to emphasize is that season 5 ending on Marinette telling the biggest, boldest faced lie she's ever told (that goes far beyond "protecting her identity") to kick off the Lila arc is by far the coolest thing they could've done imo, because I was not at all excited for the Lila arc before but now I'm totally invested. Now Lila isn't the Evil Liar to be taken down by Good Marinette. Marinette is the liar to be taken down by the very liar that she took down. It's not a story of "defeat that freakishly evil girl" anymore, but instead a story of "Marinette's own actions and decisions coming back to bite her". And the lie itself (WHICH LILA KNOWS IS A LIE!!) only exists because, and is most impactful towards, her relationship with Adrien, which is the core of the series!! I CARE about their relationship, and that's the stakes!!!

I just cannot get over how cool that is, and how much I didn't expect it. I know we all were expecting a big fight with Ladybug and Chat Noir just defeating Gabriel and then watching Chat Noir cry or whatever in the few remaining minutes of screen-time and then it's all over and done with, but that's a series finale. This was a season finale. And they did something really unique and unexpected with it, while making sure it's a juicy season-finale conflict that leaves me actually excited about season 6

also, a side note— I think the framing of the finale made this confusing so I totally get why discussions about it are kind of all over the place, but... 90% of the post-wish stuff we saw had nothing to do with Gabriel at all. It was all Mayor Bustier, who was already running for mayor and wanted to enact green laws and projected to win (she was up against D'Argencourt, the character whose schtick is that nobody ever votes for him in elections). I don't think Gabriel's wish included "Please, Gimmi, I want my son's school teacher to win the mayoral election this year" lol. So a lot of talk of "why is Gabriel's World presented in such a positive light?" is kind of weird to me. That's not Gabriel's World. That's Caline Bustier's. All we know so far about Gabriel's World is that Nathalie is in it and he is not. And frankly, the fact everyone is so happy and cheerful and living it up after his death is more a roast than anything

( also, just a reminder that the presentation of Gabriel's statue— the only scene discussing Gabriel in a positive light by someone In The Know— was done by Tomoe Tsurugi, a series antagonist, vowing to continue his work, with a song in minor key playing in the background. i feel like the question of "was this meant to be unsettling or triumphant?" is pretty obvious. just wanted to remind everyone. also by definition characters cannot celebrate gabriel as a "hero" without in the same breath celebrating monarch's, aka gabriel's, death. yknow? )

I hate the argument abt when you say customizable games should have fat people and people say "well it would be harder to model or scale clothes to fit" cause like i guess youre technically right, but why then are fat people not seen as worth the effort to actually code and model these things? Someone else said this abt baldur's gate but they said "in an RPG like that game shouldn't the priority be on allowing people to express themselves as much as possible with designing their character?" Also like fat people aren't a rarity or minority, even if all media ever wants to give people the impression that the world is 99% skinny people with maybe one or two fat villains or sidekick friends.

His goal has been to call out and bring attention to content theft, and he's stuck with it. Dude's also cared about this for years, and she's not the first content thief he's criticized. Dude wasn't trying to get her cancelled though, there was no smear campaign of her character. He's been rallying to get her to CREDIT the creators that she relies on for all of her content. It would set a precedent for all other "react" channels on the platform for one of the biggest channels on youtube to actually give credit where credit is due. Or, god forbid, get permission first? It's not hard. It's already done the job of making some other people who do "react content" self-analyze whether or not their content is transformative, and to maybe care about crediting the creators they rely on for their genre to work. There is a way to make this kind of video that isn't so slimy. And making fun of her lackluster-at-best reactions is so far from even being a big deal. Bc she literally does just sit there and say nothing. There is absolutely no way to take the moral highground now that she's literally stalked him, and doxxed his home.
