Watching Ninjago Dragons Rising for the past few days as I gradually upgrade the screen size to be bigger and bigger- I love it so damn much it's so good!! Maybe cuz I'm a Lloyd kinnie (so sorry Jay Cole and Zane fans) and he's like... a star in this first half
I really find it absolutely hilarious how a lot of the scenes felt like this. (Filthy dragons may not eat here for example lol) and I do hope that the writers have not forgotten about it/retconned it cuz I do think it explains why Lloyd was the one who was able to be the source dragon's conduit - it makes sense in a way.

I have finished finally finished the first 10 episodes of Ninjago Dragons Rising season 2. Wow. I’ve never been into Ninjago for the lore, only for the jaya, but now the lore is calling to me.
My thoughts on DR Season 2:
Nya being the only one to snap out of the weird energy draining plant of despair because the thought of Jay forgetting her is inconceivable. 💀💀💀
And then we find out that it was the “Test of Fears”. Does this mean Nya secretly fears Jay forgetting her and falling out of love with her?
We are not ready for the upcoming jaya angst.
The concept of the source dragons is awesome. I like that they have unique titles such as life motion, strength, energy, and we have yet to find out the names of the other three.Some people are theorizing that the core dragon of strength is Raz’s master, but I think that’s too on the nose and doesn’t quite fit with all the information we’ve learned so far. 
The next gen of ninja are really starting to grow on me. I wasn’t that excited about them during season one, however, season two has allowed their personalities to shine, and I’m excited about all of their character arcs. 
Bonzel is a spell. Interesting. Season two is diving into both high-tech and theoretical physics/science, but also the occult. I love the “her?” joke about Jordana (Arrested Development reference ICU) but also, she is gifted in both tech and magic. Laugh all you want about everyone forgetting her name but she is very powerful. 
But back to Bonzel, who turned out to be the MVP of these first 10 episodes of season two, the fact that she was a spell that became sentient is giving me sci-fi A.I. vibes. Kai might have been sacrificed for a forbidden five member, but Bonzel is the one who closed the portal and is now with Kai, therefore the variables have changed. We don’t have to wait for another blood moon for the portal to be opened. Plus Jordana got possessed by either a fragment of the portal or one of the forbidden five.
Here’s my prediction for the next 10 episodes: the most entertaining outcome is the most likely. How does Bonzel and Kai escape the nether purgatory? Obviously they’re not gonna wait for another millennia or two for the next blood moon. Somehow the portal will be opened again so they can extract Kai and Bonzel. And who else has all powerful portal technology? The Administration. Bonzel is now an accessory to the capture of Zane. The funniest way to extract Bonzel from this purgatory is for the Administration to apprehend her. 🤷♀️
Speaking of the Administration, who is excited for more than 33 seconds of Jay on screen? We found out some juicy details. He knows his name is Jay Walker. He knows he can control lightning and we know now that he hates his job and is just there for the paycheck (I can relate). 
This makes Jay joining Raz’s team, if it is even him, more interesting. Maybe he leaves the Administration because Raz offers him a better job or maybe he gets an invite to the tournament of source dragons and is a neutral party. I’m excited to see the second half of season two because it’s not as predictable as we once thought it was. 
But if Jay does end up joining Raz’s team, I’m excited for the jaya angst. If you’re never fantasized about hatefucking a sexy member of the supervillain group that hates you, have you even lived?

The color associated with Raz's Master is.... gold?? A color usually associated with good in Ninjago, which sure is a choice.

I watched the second half of Dragons Rising while on vacation last weekend so no episode by episode reaction this time.
That being said, I over all enjoyed the new batch of episodes.
Spoilers below
Kai and Wyldfyre were the best part of the new season, they were so funny. They really just took season 1 Kai, turned his flaws up to 11, swapped the gender and made him train her. They are so fun to watch.
I loved Sora's character arc, especially when she told off her parents. You shouldn't have to prove your worth to your parents.
Arin continues to be a delightful stand-in for everyone who grew up watching Ninjago. His and Lloyd's dynamic is very sweet.
So many moments of wanting to hug Zane this season.
Hey Ninjago writers, why is it always Cole who gets turned into weird stuff? First a ghost and now he can turn into a rock monster? At least this time it's at will.
It was really cool to see a djinn character again, and get some new lore for Djinjago, but it would have been nice if Nya had made literally any reference to Skybound. A little hesitation at trusting a djinn, a little acknowledgement of already knowing how wishes work. Just give me something. I know a lot of people don't like that season but it's one of my favorites and I think the writers should at least recognize it happened as a treat.
I cannot believe they did my boy Jay dirty like that. It literally would have been better if they just hadn't had the cameo. At least then it would have left me in suspense. Instead I'm worried for a completely different reason. I can't think of a compelling reason why Jay would be working with these bureaucrats that wouldn't be out of character, so the writers had better have a good explanation. (That being said he absolutely would work hard enough to get into a management position just so he could spend the whole day playing videogames)
All in all, it's hard to judge this season because there is so much that has yet to be resolved. This is hardly the first season of Ninjago to leave a lot of unanswered questions, but this seems particularly set-up heavy, which does drag it down a bit. The main through line that did get resolved, Sora's character arc, was really good though, and Imperium were fun bad guys. I'm glad Beatrix and Raz are clearly being set up to come back. For now, I think it was an enjoyable season, but only time will tell if that holds up.

Random, yet supported, headcanon: Augustus had a delayed growth spurt when he was around Frazie and Dion’s age. It’s mainly to deal with the timeline nonsense. Augustus was adopted by Nona at age 13, met and fell in love with Donatella at age 17, had Dion at 18, had Frazie at 19/20, had Raz at 23, had Mirtala at 25, had Queepie at 26/27, psychonauts happened at age 33.
Psychonauts is one of those things where you just shouldn't think too hard about the timeline or it will all fall apart

Oh right the 'squad'. Sorry I didn't know what else to call them lol. People like Raz, Fane, Worm, Ninjager, GrungeKitty, StressedPrincess and all the other people! (Sorry ik I didn't say alot of them) (Also not sure if you can tag them) It's just the people you are closest with in the fandom. I hate to say it, but I'm rather jealous of your amazing friendships. My friends and I don't really have much common ground to 'break the ice' so I come to Ninjago Tumblr for support. Sorry this was long!

I’m gonna be honest with you: I have a huge jealously problem. Like, I get upset when my friends just. Have other friends. How dare they be closer with others than they are me? I should be everybody’s best friend!!!
I didn’t even start addressing this until very recently, and even that has already helped a lot. I know I am jealous, but I also know that people are allowed to have friends that aren’t me. The best I can do is to continue being friends with the people I am, and to try to be friends with the others.
That being said! I totally feel you on coming to tumblr for support. My irl friends are great, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything, but internet friends are special in that you can specifically search out common interests and go from there.
It took me a really, really long time to make any friends on here. I’ve been active since February of 2018, and I don’t think I had a single friend in the fandom until like... October of 2019? Something like that? Probably a little earlier, but you get the idea. You wanna know how I made my first friend on here?
I made a post asking for friends.
That’s literally what I did lmao. Was it a little pathetic? Yes. Did it work? IT SURE DID!
After that, it just sort of happened gradually. Ivy and I started talking after she participated in one of my sleepovers, I think (I could be wrong cause my memory is really bad lol, but I’m pretty sure that’s what happend), I’m pretty sure Lovely wrote something for me and then we just started talking, I believe Rina drew that beautiful fanart for one of my fics and that’s how we started talking, etc etc. I’ve also found that a great way to make friends is to message them with a compliment, like talking about their work!
As someone with really really bad social anxiety (I once had a sobbing breakdown trying to call a pizza place), making friends is hard. Like, really hard. The best advice I can offer is to put yourself out there, no matter how terrifying it is (another reason I love the anonymous feature, because it makes it so much easier to get comfortable with people before you become friends). And, of course, to just be active! If you post consistently, people will start to notice.

So I just thought of something:
What if the Imperium - led by Empress Beatrix - was already planning to conquer Ninjago before the Merge? And what if the mysterious disappearances of Zane, Jay, Cole and Wu is a part of that conquest plan?
Maybe Beatrix and the Imperium were watching from the shadows while multiple villains tried to conquer/destroy Ninjago and determined that the Ninja and Spinjizu Brothers were going to be the primary threats to their plans. So when the time comes they kidnap Cole, Zane, Jay, and Wu (maybe even Garmadon).
Additionally, I feel like the Imperium would kidnap others that could prove to be a major thorn in their side. For example, the Serpentine Generals (Skales, Skalidor, Fangtom, Acidicus); the members of the defunct Crystal Council (Pythor, Aspheera, Vangelis, the Mechanic, and Harumi); and some powerful leaders (Benthomaar, Ulysses Trustworthy, and Vania).
These plans were tweaked after the Merge and the appearance of Raz, who offered Beatrix the chance to join him and steal the power of the Dragons to reshape the new merged world in their image.
That's a VERY cool theory, but honestly I was thinking Imperium came after the Merge. My thoughts were like "okay so, the Merge happens and all these people are confused and displaced and blah blah blah. What if Beatrix took advantage of this and collected people from these different merged realms to help grow her army and expand her control?"
I kinda think it's like, Ras is actually below Beatrix, not equals, but he's very loyal to her, which is why he takes his job so seriously. Maybe she saved him from something?

The Administration. I have some things to say about this monstrosity.
DR spoilers under the cut:
LOL that Zane was the one who was the most knowledgeable about the Administration and proceeded to inform the audience about this new entity. Did not see that coming.
First clue something was off - when the portal that Lloyd and Arin jumped through disappeared, it turned into bubbles.
Then we get a first glimpse of this bureaucratic hell in the cubical maze. The multi-generation line for a permit made my blood pressure spike. Too close. 😭 You don’t know bureaucratic hell until you’ve tried getting permits for a project that turns into a multi month long process, massive fees and tons of back and forth and revisions and (pulls out hair) could have been handled internally between departments. (I’m looking at you City of LA). Not to mention driving into downtown LA is an equally soul crushing experience. But I digress. . .
Lloyd and Arin get their mini Matrix adventure “following the white rabbit” (except it is following the white ninja - haha get it?) which leads them to Zane (and be honest, we all thought it was going to be Jay).
Zane then gives us the low down on the Administration. Extreme power paired with gross incompetence. Managers sound like department heads, and the top dog is the Administrator (who we have yet to meet). And it used to be in the realm of madness before the merge. Interesting.
They somehow knew he was attempting to open a monastery portal (did it connect to the Administration?), teleported directly into the monastery and took Zane. Wow, they have powerful tech and surveillance.
The three ninja figure out that the Administration has immense power, yet all of their paperwork is pointless busywork and doesn’t really do anything. Ooofff if that’s not a dig on modern government and large corporations.
“It is impossible to tell the difference between mass incompetence and intentional malice.”
I predict that will be the theme of the Administration: it will be impossible to tell if they’re that stupid or that evil. Unfortunately, that’s how most governments and large corporations are. And they will have an important role in season two. Why go through all the effort to introduce this new land merged with a Ninjago if it doesn’t show up again? Will the top leader, the Administrator, be linked to Raz’s master?
Then we finally see Jay and it looks like he has figured out how to climb the ladder of the Administration’s strict hierarchy. Good for him. Get that executive suite! Get close to the Administrator so when your memories come back you can help your ninja team.
I am excited to see more of the Administration and Jay’s shenanigans next season. I hope he is a total dick to the cubical wagies.
What are your thoughts on the Administration?
