I. Al-Haitham's Garden

Kaveh finds a seat on one of the cushioned wicker daybeds, running a hand over the tapestry-like patterns in a repetitive, self-soothing motion.
Now that he is actively studying it, Al-Haitham’s garden is arranged in quite the classic manner for Sumerian courtyards. There is the water feature as the centerpiece: a small stone fountain decorated with glittering tiles. Palms and ferns with large, fan-shaped leaves are strategically planted around the perimeter alongside citrus-bearing trees, all of these common choices for courtyard plants. Kaveh internally salivates at the promising prospect of stealing fresh oranges for himself this summer. At that time, he will no doubt find relief from the sweltering heat in the shade offered by the tiny, lattice-roofed patio adjacent to the main house. Kaveh imagines plopping onto the sofas there to peel his spoils at the low table until Al-Haitham catches him. He would talk the grumbling man into joining in, eventually; Al-Haitham is unironically an attentive host despite his reluctance. If Kaveh feels generous that day, he might even compliment him for fashioning such a compact space so deftly. In fact, he would be more suspicious that someone so loath to work arranged this all by himself if the garden didn’t show signs of being “returned to nature” in some places.
As if it is hardly used, the backdoor of the house opens with a noisy creak and interrupts Kaveh’s musings. Al-Haitham steps out, now dressed in his usual sashes and boots. The man does a double take when he sees Kaveh draped over his outdoor seating, painting the picture of a shocked madam who just received word that her son has eloped with a neighboring girl. “Ever the princess, aren’t you,” he comments dryly.
Kaveh snaps upright in an instant, cheeks flushing in anger. “Shut up and tell me where we’re going!”

@26ja I just finished preparing your Christmas gift buuut I’ll publish it on the 21st so I can have your reaction for my birthday or after (if you have time to see it, otherwise don’t worry, I don’t mind waiting, the important thing is that I don’t have it before, here they say it’s bad luck to get birthday gifts and well wishes too early).
For everyone else, this means I’m going to update one (1) of my fics next week and sorry if it’s not the one who you’re waiting for, I barely had time for this (it was a shit year, sigh).

30.04.2023 Camp NaNo
Somehow, I have survived this month and accomplished my word goal if not my chapter goal.
But I did manage to churn out two more chapters on the last day, so there's that.

Snippet:
“What are you doing?!” screamed someone right by Rin’s ear.
Shadows surged and boiled as Rin threw himself to one side. The dodge took him outside the protection of the ceiba tree and into the rain.
Rin stared at the furious Nika as his brother stomped past him and yanked the book up from the ground, inspecting it with ferocious intensity.
“What the bloody hell was that for?” Rin demanded, clutching his chest as his heart tried to explode out of it. He fell back against the adobe and tried to breath. Unsuccessful, he settled for wiping the rain from his face.
Nika whirled on him and raised the huge book as if to throw it at his ignorant brother, but settled for shaking it dry. “You don’t just leave books on the ground! What are you, four?!”
“I need to study and I can’t do that inside.” Rin gestured towards the houses. “What else was I supposed to do?”
“Find a board to put the book on!” Nika roared. “Not the ground!”

NEW SD GUNDAM GAIDEN WORK HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED
So, first is the little intro about this work. It's a new entry banner called SD Gundam Gaiden NEO. (The Knight Gundam series is separated into different banners that each series falls under. The previous one was New Testament SD Gundam Gaiden.)
The motif for this series is the 2022 Gundam series Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.
The title of this first entry is "The Forbidden Magic" and this first arc is "Shrine Maiden of the Dragon God".
I'll be translating stuff from the snippet on the P-Bandai page. (VPN needed to access it from outside Japan)
STORY
Many years ago, the Benerit Clan wiped out the Dragon Village. However, some villagers, mainly children, were able to flee into the deep forest. It has been said that mysterious magic since ancient times has been hidden there…
In the Benerit Clan, which destroyed the Dragon Village and built a city in the remaining wasteland, a struggle for supremacy was underway among the young chiefs of the three families. The control of that power spread to the surrounding area, and the people of the Dragon Village are once again discovered by the Benerit Clan.
Under orders from the head chief, Delling, the elites of the three families approached the silent forest…

Current Thoughts
I hope these aren't the final card artwork because it looks a bit bland with the default silver background. The ones with gradient look a bit better, but they are nowhere near as the fully rendered backgrounds in New Testament or previous works.
They do not give a gender, but I feel like Aerial is male here and idk how to feel about it. The card list does mention Ericht separately as a spirit, so that kind of alleviates my concerns. I just don't know how to feel about it.
The first chapter is Shrine Maiden of the Dragon God, which likely refers to Mio.
One of the spirits is Spirit Geist, which is one of Roux's main summoned Spirits in Kikoushin Densetsu, which makes me think this is in the Dabat Kingdom, but at the same time, I'm not sure since we've yet to learn where and when in the SD Gundam Gaiden timeline this takes place in.
It would make sense to have a story that takes place in that kingdom's area, since Seikihei Monogatari is the only one whose yet to have a post-Saddrac Knight Saga era work connected to it.

so the final bd volume included an amazon-exclusive bonus commentary cd with suletta, miorine, nika, and chuchu's vas (finally). they had a corner where they had to draw questions? topics? from the haro and answer them and lynn's part is craaaazy

this is kinda smutty, so it's below the cut! assholes be assholing, in a metaphorical sense lmao no fucking is happening here
“Mm, I can see that. As I was saying, I am hardly comfortable doing what we did before Ghimlyt. However, if you promise to let me know as soon as you feel any pain, I could give you a hand.” Fuck, he looks so serious like that, with that deep voice and determined eyes. There’s something appealing about that lack of flirtation and flattery; if anything, Artoirel’s best seduction techniques are usually unintentional. And yet, Nika gravitates towards him like a moth to flame, and that desire from earlier burns tenfold for it.
“Yeah, I don’t really get off on pain,” Nika shrugs, and then adds, when something in him protests, “not this kind of pain, anyways.”
Artoirel lifts a brow, likely filing that information somewhere in that overfilled head of his, but he doesn’t comment. Thank fuck for it. Nika would’ve perished on the spot.
“Alright, then,” Artoirel says and repositions them. On top of Nika, with thighs on either side of him, he doesn’t look quite as silly as he does with his head buried in the pillows. Instead, he looks at Nika like he’s planning, appreciating. The moon sits behind his head like a silver halo in a church, and when he reaches out to undo the buttons on his shirt, Nika’s eyes slide down to the exposed line of his chest. He swallows, and lays a hand on Artoirel’s thigh.
“Get on with it,” Nika says.
Artoirel smiles. “Patience,” he replies in a voice, and Nika squirms. “Do you not want me to be comfortable?”
“I do, but– it’s been months. I expected something quicker,” Nika murmurs and pouts.
Artoirel’s voice turns gravely and low. “Months, yes,” he repeats. “I hardly expect you to last long; not that it is a bad thing, mind, but I am giving this more time to last.”
“Fine, fine.” He can’t even find it in him to get insulted. At least he can look at Artoirel’s stupidly pretty chest he hides behind shirts and cravats, and admire the dusting of dark hairs on pale skin.

This is a direct reference to the opening of chapter one, which features Al-Haitham's garden. Read an excerpt →
Saffron is highly valued in Iran, even being called "red gold", and poppies represent grief in Persian culture.
Tie the silver knot / our Lord's sacred tree / pomegranate seed
Swearing their promise beneath Kusanali's sacred tree makes it unbreakable. "Tie the knot" in English refers to marriage :3c
There is a Persian legend about a hero who became invincible after swallowing a pomegranate seed.
This we have now is not x, y, or z / perceive their wisdom
Wine, scythe, moon - these are all things that come and go.
Material or not, will fade / this presence doesn't
Everything except Alhaitham's and Kaveh's vow is transient. Their souls' promise will persist until the end of time.

I feel like I should mention this after one of your very thoughtful very neat long posts on Kostas and not necessarily spurred on by “Cole would make a good lesbian” even IF I laughed aloud in delight there— but I’ve been meaning to say that I read Kostas way way back in the day, and it’s been so cool to stumble back into tumblr and find posts about this story that I only stopped rereading because in about 2017 I dropped the kindle that had it off the back of a sofa. It’s always been a story that sticks in my head, and suddenly I remember little pearls of scenes. I still get snippets of a poem stuck in my head— the one that goes something like “oh thief of time, oh mischief maker” etc. And it’s just been such a wonderful, wild thing to just suddenly see new little details! A few thoughts about x and y! After years where it’s been a story that has had to live in memory.
Also I agree; Cole would make a fascinating lesbian.
I don't know how the inbox works, totally, so I apologize if this is doing something I shouldn't - just let me know and I can take it down.
but this was really nice to hear. Really - I mean, I don't know how to thank you.
And for better or worse, Kostas is going to reappear soon - I'm setting up a side blog for it, and will be putting up audio versions of the chapters - as I'm really trying to make room in my life for writing again. Which is also why I started sharing little things again - a way to encourage myself - which is another reason why hearing this was so nice. You know, if all I get is a laugh, that's great, but it's so wonderful to hear the story resonated, and somebody else thinks about it from time to time. That's so encouraging.
And I KNOW RIGHT?! what is Cole-as-a-lesbian like, though?! Is he a UHaul lesbian? I think Nika's more the move-in immediately type. He did kind of hand-pick Cole and commit hard. Cole is DEFINITELY everyone's ex. And the bad ex for most of them. Who for some reason nobody will stop hanging out with. She's the one who can work out everyone's permitting for their bookstore/yarn barn/coffee shop/hardware store and you should ask any of your butch friends first but if you're really desperate she will absolutely do that complicated regulation-compliant plumbing installation 100% up to code but you don't want to ask because spending that much time with her puts you in real danger of forgetting all the reasons why you absolutely shouldn't be emotionally involved with her. Danger lesbian.
She's like... a lawyer, or in corporate acquisitions but like a scary specific kind of lawyer, like tree law or somehow exclusively works on cases against corporations for health and safety violations, and traps companies into giving up privately owned assets to turn them into like community centers. But only as, like, a side gig.
I might be thinking of the song short skirt long jacket but I think maybe it works.

NaNoWriMo 2023 - Update 3
Yup. It’s that time again. Can you tell the energy is waning?
So, this week I really tried hard to push myself and write scenes that are more slice-of-life and less action in order to fill out the first half of the arc. It worked alright, but I’ve noticed these recent scenes are about half as long as the other scenes I’ve written this month. Not really important, as I’ll end up stringing multiple scenes into one chapter later on (for the most part), but it’s something I’ve noticed. Maybe this coming week I’ll focus less on new scenes and more on fleshing out existing scenes… or maybe that’ll be a task for December… will think more on this later.
Enough rambling. Here’s the official list for this past week:
More discovered about how I write: slice-of-life is hard for me and must be a deliberate choice. Yeah, I think I wrote twice as many scenes compared to last week, but they’re all half as long on average.
I’ve managed to stay on target! Not every day, some days were just lighter on words than others. But as of last night, I’m just barely a day ahead. Woo!
Sunday was my best day so far this month, with 4771 words! A good day, especially as I’m sure I’ll struggle to find time to write this coming holiday. Thanksgiving Day just looming over me…
How about you? Good words? Bad words? They’re all words and so count.
Snippet
Uncle Tio was the only family mage Rin knew that wasn’t also clan. Maybe he’d have a different perspective, Rin thought. He bit his lip, then blurted out his question. “How do you weave illusion?”
“Easy,” Tio answered with an easy shrug. “I look at where I want the illusion and I picture it.” He held out his hand to Rin — palm up — to demonstrate. Half a heartbeat later a beautiful pink blossom bloomed from the center of that calloused hand. Fingers tipped with hooked scars just brushed the edges of the bloom, swiping the petals as Tio twisted his wrist and then held a dark green stem. He proffered the flower to Nika.
“Like I’d fall for that again,” he sniffed.
With a huff of laughter, Tio let the flower mist away. He tugged a limp lock of hair that dangled behind Nika’s left ear. “Too much of your mum in you, serious one.”
Nika’s grumbling red face smoothed into something too still and neutral, and Rin winced.
Rin shook his head and looped his arm through Nika’s, tugging his brother close. “Nika’s league’s of fun. Just the quiet kind.” With that declaration, he waved to Tio, then steered Nika towards the food tables and the roaring laughter that could only be caused by their father.

Oooh okay... I'm going to post a snippet from a series I'm working on. I hope to post the first chapter this week 😏

"Miss," he repeated. "Are you alright?"
"Yes," you said. "Yes, I am. I—thank you."
He smiled and you decided then that he had a rather kind face, even wrapped in a dark tunic and unpolished boots.
"Careful. These carts move fast. Did they hurt you?"
"No," you breathed, still shaken. "No, I'm fine."

All my wips are bouncing around in my brain like a Windows screensaver 💔 I get bored trying to stick to one WIP.

Nope, writing is quite chaotic and spontaneous for me. Whenever I'm struck by inspiration, I jot down whatever I can!

It helps me to discuss ideas with friends! But if that's not available, finding songs that fit the story or trying to make a visual element helps me when I want to think about the story but don't feel like writing.
