Now, without even a weekend in between we are now hosting 2 weekends of Jazzfest! With Stevie Nicks, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lionel Ritchie, and so many more musical acts, it is sure to please the audience! It’s been 3 years, thanks to Covid, but here we are! Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 is a must-see for anyone interested in the history of New Orleans. Its' crypts and graves tell the story of Old, as well as present-day, New Orleans, starting in 1833 and continuing on until now, as it is still an active burial site. An interesting aspect of Lafayette Cemetery is that the inscriptions on the grave sites often will tell how the people died. We read of deaths from Yellow Fever, cholera, drowning, and the Civil War. It's also known as the "Most-filmed" cemetery in New Orleans, having been featured in several movies and TV shows. Among those are the movie, "Double Jeopardy", and the TV shows, "NCIS: New Orleans", and, "The Originals". It has also been featured in a book by author Anne Rice, "Interview With The Vampire". The cemetery is undergoing constant repairs to the tombs, conducted for the most part by the local, "Save Our Cemetaries", organization. This is a very big undertaking, so as you walk around, don't be surprised if you see some tombs/crypts in different stages of disrepair. The Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 may not be something that everyone will want to see, but we found it a very interesting, historical, and sobering experience.
