Despite the torrential downpour, I braved the city streets (if you live in the New Orleans area, you know) to visit Mawi Tortilla to sample its gallo pinto and talk to its chef/owner Will Avelar on all things beans, and in particular Camellia Beans.

Of note, the restaurant is now serving red beans and rice, but it is meatless and in a twist inspired by his father, it is served with slices of avocado and pupusas.

OMG took a container of Olive Spread to have a Muffaletta. The Famous Sicilian New Orleans style sandwich. Since they have the very best Grinder Sandwich Downriver the same great bread used. The young lady made perfection between da bread. Loaded with Meat's Provolone Cheese and Olive Spread both top n bottom inside bread for the Win. I left the container with the owner, hopefully he will add to menu. Also marvolus All da Meats Pizza outstanding Delicious 😋. Oggi sono andata in un ristorante dove andavo spesso prima della pandemia. Di solito per fare il brunch.

Per questo un anno non sono riuscita ad andare a mangiarci perché non erano quasi mai aperti e facevano orari iper ridotto. Ho temuto non riuscissero a sopravvivere alla crisi portata dalla chiusura forzata, ma sono ancora lì e io ne sono felice.

Ciò nonostante oggi sono rimasta delusa nuovamente dal cibo. È la seconda volta che ci vado quest'anno è che i piatti storici non sanno di niente. Questa cosa mi ha richiesto una battuta del personaggio di Bruno Ganz in Pane e Tulipani dice diceva che la cuoca del ristorante dove lavorava, dopo la dell'appendice, non era più la stessa. E forse il covid avrà avuto li stesso effetto sul cuoco di questo ristorante...
