Addams! AU snippet 2: 'Lab'
FULL CREDIT TO WRITER NewFallenLeaves ON A03! SHE IS THE BIGGEST SUPPORTER OF THIS AU, AND IS INCREDIBLY TALENTED AND SWEET. GIVE HER A COMMENT, KUDO, SHARE, WHATEVER. MAKE HER DAY JUST A BIT BETTER, SHE DESERVES ALL THE LOVE!
This specific snippet had actually been inspired by some art! Im pretty sure I've posted it before, but might as well also include it too! (It is pretty old, forgive meeeee LOL)
Tumblr media
Full snippet below the cut! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Donnie had the setup exactly how he wanted.
The rat specimen was pinned to the exam table, paws impaled and spread. Its belly fur was scraped clear and the bloated, pink flesh exposed. It had died in the trap before Donnie could get to it (thank you, Mikey, for setting the couch on fire again and delaying him.) So no vivisection. But that was fine, dissection was the next best thing. Especially of a pregnant rat, oh, giddy grin, he was going to get a whole clutter of partially-developed babies to experiment on! And with Mikey and Raph off in the tunnels and Leo traipsing around the Hidden City somewhere, Donnie finally had a quiet afternoon to himself.
He intended to make the most of it.
Swiveling the lamp so the lighting beamed down on the specimen, he curled his fingers in anticipation. The mechanical scalpel joint lined up just at the top of the rat’s throat, where he could cut a straight line to open the abdomen–
“Donnieeeeeeeeee!”
Leo burst through the double doors. He waltzed across the room and flung himself over the dissection table, swooning like a lady in the throes of a fainting spell.
“Wha–” Donnie grabbed for his tray of needles and surgical knives before it upended and strewed across the floor. “Nardo! You’re squishing my specimen!”
Leo fixed him with a dreamy, half-lidded gaze. “I just met somebody.”
Donnie glowered. This was the reason Leo had barged into his lab? To annoy him with ceaseless gushing over some new simpleton he’d decided to pursue?
“You’ll never believe it,” said Leo. “I rescued him instead of mugged him.”
Donnie shook the table. “Didn’t you hear me? Get off.”
“He was cornered. By two smelly thugs. They had these adorable little switch knives, trying to be all intimidating. Donnie, I’m telling you, it would have been pathetic that he got himself hemmed in like that, if his cowering wasn’t so adorable.”
“Nardo…”
“You should have seen how cute his face was, all covered in blood!” Leo kicked his feet. “Oh, I couldn’t help myself. Don’t worry, don’t worry, you’ll be so proud of me, I only licked him a little–”
“I don’t have time for this–”
“--so I’m sure he knows I’m a gentleman. Oh, it was such a good thing I was there, those brutes were so unsophisticated, they wouldn’t have done anything right–”
“Oh my god would you just shut up!” Donnie dragged his hands down his face, opening a sliver on his cheek as the scalpel on his finger caught flesh. “What level of disinterest and indignation do I need to achieve before you get it through your addled brain? I do not care.”
Leo’s smirk never wavered. He held up his hand, smudged deep with red, and waggled his fingers. “Wanna sample?”
Donnie opened his mouth to argue, then hesitated. He peered a little closer at the smear of not-yet-coagulated blood. “...it was a yokai?”
“Mmm-hmmmm.”
“What type?”
“One you don’t have any blood work for yet.” Leo’s grin widened. “Rabbit. Or bunny. If there’s a difference.”
The swab was in Donnie’s hand before he realized he’d made the decision to reach for one. He soaked up a dribble from Leo’s wrist and snagged a clean Petri dish. “Of course there’s no difference, why do you think the combination term ‘bunny rabbit’ exists? It’s a hare that comes from another genus. And what do you want, huh? You don’t just saunter in here and offer me free DNA for my trials for nothing.”
“Can’t I help my dear brother with his evil lab experiments out of the goodness of my heart?”
“As if you have one.”
Leo dissolved into giggles.
Donnie capped the dish and pulled a fresh label from the drawer. “So? Spill. What am I beholden to you for after this oh-so-generous and selfless donation?”
“Oh, you know. Age, blood type, zodiac sign, debilitating allergies or hypersensitivities. Aaaand if you happen to match those to any particular medical records and it leads to a place of employment or a home address…”
“Don’t you have enough stalking victims already?”
Leo hopped off the metal slab and pirouetted his way out the door. “No such thing.”

Encanto Fanfic Recs
Tumblr media
I love making fanfic rec lists and I’m excited there’s enough on my Encanto list to start one. I will continue to add as I find more.
Tiles on a Roof by @avatarvyakara
Summery: A series of one-shots set among the family Madrigal.
Notes: love every single one of these. Very in character. Read everything he writes, you won’t regret it.
Rumble Thu Bellyful! by @cheetee
Summery: Everything is perfect between Mariano and Dolores. There's just one thing: every time their relationship comes up, it starts to rain. Why doesn't Pepa Madrigal seem to approve of her new future son-in-law? Fortunately, Mariano is determined to earn her trust. And he's found just the solution. There's definitely no way that this can go wrong.
Notes: THIS FIC!!! The characterization of every single character is absolutely spot on!! I laughed so much reading this, my heart melted and I can not wait to read it again! So so good!!
A Gift By Any Other Name by newfallenleaves
Summery: They’d all had such hope, when Mirabel did not receive a curse. But Casita does not take well to defiance. And she is not willing to give up her thralls so easily.
Notes: Encanto as a horror movie. Such a good, fun twist.
When the Cats Away by @cheetee
Summery: Tío Bruno is in charge, and he's banned Camilo and Mirabel from saving Encanto.
Heavy Blanket by between
Summery: The first time Camilo remembers seeing snow, he's three years old and his mamá won't come out of her room.
When It Rains, It Pours by by Wolfsong6913 & Word_Addict
Summery: Felix never used to like the way Pepa's weather was out of control whenever she was pregnant. He soon learned that it never lasted for as long as he'd like.
A Little Light To Make Us See by wolfsong6913
Summery: All is well, the Casita and their gifts are restored, and the Madrigals couldn't be happier. Most of them, anyway. Camilo, however is upset at how he and his family treated Mirabel for years. He can't forgive them, and he refuses to understand. The candle is going to make him.
Something Unexpected by @wikluk
Summery: Julieta has a small request for Antonio but she didn’t consider just how much influence Camilo has on his younger brother.
Notes: this is absolutely delightful and adorable.
Middle Child Syndrome by @atomic-bobo
Summery: Casita is rebuilt, the family is healing, a perfect happy ending. Except no one had fixed anything for Camilo, and when he gets sick, the family finds out just how badly they have been neglecting him.
Chimera by bexii
Summery: Camilo has a slight identity issue and though he tries to hide it at first, the whole family rally to support him. Family fluff with emotional issues.
Tail of the Frog by @cheetour
Summery: Mirabel has a secret, Bruno has an incurable cold, and Camilo and Antonio have a mystery to solve. Julieta... has too much to do.
Ugly Lips by @lariskapargitay
Notes: Absolutely heartbreaking. Please read trigger warning
I'll brick by brick rebuilt us (out of how's and why's not when's) by @acewithapaintbrush
Summery: Rebuilding a house doesn't fix everything. The Madrigal children have been struggling for a long time and they will keep struggling. But thankfully they now have a tio by their side who knows what it's like to feel the walls closing in on you.
Home Sweet Home by fichistory
Summery: The Casita has fallen and Mirabel has to process it.
To Summon A Goddess by @themorgtician
Summery: After centuries of searching, the last members of the Cult of Pachamama has finally found the vessel of their beloved goddess. It comes in the form of a weather-gifted redhead named Pepa Madrigal. Now that they’ve found her, nothing will stop them from completing their goals. Not even her family.
Dance With Me by @julietaswifey
Summery: Julieta and Agustín return home after a night out together. Drunk on wine and each other they try not to make too much noise, and of course they fail miserably
La Verdad de La Sangre by Elli_Lite
Summery: Camilo Madrigal thought that Mirabel only had a bad day. Make her laugh a little bit, give her space, and she was back to normal. It was easy to forget. Little did he know that her bad day would lead to a murder, two marriages, multiple children, and then a double homicide fifteen years in the making.
Notes: I read this then immediately reread. Just wow!! Warning this is a dark fic and touches on lots of subjects that may be uncomfortable so read the tags. But Isabela in this fic slays me. And the voice of Camilo is so perfect. I’m ready to reread this again just talking about it.
How Abuela Became an Abuela by @wifeofbean
Summery: Multi-chapter fic depicting the births of each Madrigal grandchild. (All chapters rated T except chapter 5.)
Notes: This fic!!! So many emotions. Also I declare every chapter as canon.
Beautiful by @wifeofbean
Summery: Luisa doesn't know who she is without her Gift; Agustin does his best to reassure her.
There’s rue for you by @wifeofbean
Summery: Julieta's knowledge of herbs extends beyond her magical Gift, and she helps where she's needed.
If I Seem Too Serene, Torture Me by @wifeofbean
Summery: NSFW. Julieta and Agustin drink together, have some fun, then have some more fun the next afternoon. Smut.
Notes: if it’s not obvious you should definitely read all of their fics cause ❤️❤️❤️
Birds of Paradise by @cheetour
Summery: With the mountain pass open, the outside world is now open to the Encanto. Isabela is wearing women's pants. The Madrigal uncles are starting a college fund. But when a mysterious scientist arrives in the Encanto, claiming to be in search of a rare bird, Mirabel can't shake the feeling that something terrible is going to happen.
The Waiting Game by @mm-so-this-is-love
Summery: While Casita is being rebuilt the Madrigal family moves in with generous villagers, but the lack of privacy starts to wear on Pepa who just wants some alone time with her husband.
Sunny side up by @patron-saints
Summery: pepa's anxieties about the new baby seem worse than normal, so julieta does what any good sister would do and makes her a midnight snack.
Protective Instinct by @sokkas-first-fangirl
Summery: Five times Pepa protected Bruno, one time she didn't and one time Bruno returned the favour
Thread by Thread, Side by Side by @inkquillery
Summery: Mirabel Madrigal ran away in the direct aftermath of Casita's fall, and during the three years she stayed away, here are the five times someone found the wayward Madrigal in Casita's kitchen with a first aid kit... Plus the one time everyone found her.
Dying (of embarrassment but someone beat me to it) by @kirrithian
Summery: After being mortally embarrassed, Mirabel is hiding under her bed in the casita. Julieta and Pepa share stories to help her feel better.
Cross your fingers by @thisstableground
Summery: It's not that Mirabel wants to push Bruno into spilling all of his secrets within five minutes of coming home, it's just that she does think that maybe, possibly it might be a good idea to mention to his sisters and his mother that he's been living in the walls before they dig his hideout out of the rubble, especially now that all of the kids already know.
Patching the Cracks by @cakebedamned
Summery: Sure, the Madrigal house can fracture under pressure, but it wouldn't hold together at all if not for the family's love for each other. It's so, so, far from perfect, but that doesn't make it unimportant.
Leap of Faith by @solibri
Summery: casita falls and the subsequent morning that ensues, from camilo's perspective
The Price of a Miracle by baletetree
Summery: Alma Madrigal knows she isn’t long for this world. The Miracle, now more powerful than ever, needs a new Guardian—one with strength of will and insight, one who can harness the magic and push it beyond its limits... one who can be the Miracle itself. If only there was a better way than thrusting that particular responsibility onto a young girl battling through the trenches of puberty and other woes of adolescence.
Someone to Snuggle with by @pensandpizza
Summery: You can't be Fun Tio Bruno all the time. When Bruno is left in a foul mood after a night plagued with sleep visions, the only member of the Madrigal family that can help is the gigantic, dangerous carnivore that lives a few doors down.
The Prince of a Miracle by BaleteTree
Summery: Alma Madrigal knows she isn’t long for this world. The Miracle, now more powerful than ever, needs a new Guardian—one with strength of will and insight, one who can harness the magic and push it beyond its limits... one who can be the Miracle itself. If only there was a better way than thrusting that particular responsibility onto a young girl battling through the trenches of puberty and other woes of adolescence.
Notes: I love the way they write Mirabel and OMG I have never fallen in love with OCC characters faster (normally I’m not a big fan.)
Milhojas by Queer_Of_Clubs
Summery: The origin of Julieta and Agustín's relationship.
A Change of Life by @mm-so-this-is-love
Summer: Julieta and Pepa have taken to comparing notes on their change of life symptoms, but something seems off to Julieta.
Clear Skies Forever by @foreveranevilregal
Summery: Tired of feeling like she's hurting her family, Pepa does the unimaginable. But her family isn't ready to give up on her...
Tumblr Drabbles

Snippet 11 - Quiet Understanding
All the credit to NewFallenLeaves on A03 for this writing!!@ Shes such an angel I love her go support her
There's lots of tism in this one yall will love it
Tumblr media
Snippet below the cut!!!⬇️⬇️⬇️
The next time one of the youngest bunny siblings traipsed into Donnie’s lab, it was not at all within the parameters of any scenario that he had anticipated.
Mari came slinking in so quietly, even his sensitive hearing aids almost failed to pick up the sound. Her padded steps were so soft and careful, it was as if she didn’t even want to hear her own footfalls. He could even go so far as to say that she was as silent as any ninja, although Donnie knew the Miyamoto clan had no training in that style.
When his sensors did pick up on her presence, she was almost already right behind him.
He swiveled in his chair abruptly. She froze mid-stride. Her ears were trembling and her eyes were rimmed with red.
He knew practically nothing about the younger bunny twin, due to the fact that he hardly interacted with her. With minimal data, all he could tell for sure was that she was extraordinarily introverted, and for some reason enjoyed Raph’s tea parties. Why she would be coming to him unannounced, he had no idea.
“What’s the matter with you?” Donnie asked.
“You’re not sick,” said Donnie.
He tugged his goggles down over his eyes and activated a quick scan. It revealed an elevated heart rate, minor congestion in her sinuses, and some light inflammation in her corneas. Nothing that indicated illness.
Apparently, that was the wrong thing to say. Her eyes welled, and she swiped them with the heel of her hand. “Yes I am. I need something…to fix me.”
“Fix what?”
“You make potions like mystics, right? Ishi-nii-san said so. And you made him better.”
Donnie resisted the urge to criticize her comparison of his science to the backward mysticism her culture subscribed to. “Your brother has quantifiable symptoms that can be tempered with the right admixture of medications. But I can’t create medicine for vague or nonexistent problems, so if you want something, explain it properly.”
She hesitated, and for a moment looked as if she might just turn and leave. Instead she said, slowly, “Riko was humming again. And when I told her to stop she got mad and called me stupid again.”
Donnie cocked an eyebrow. “It’s not stupid to ask someone else to allay their noise pollution.”
“But only simple people have to have quiet to concentrate. I’m not supposed to get so annoyed when Riko sings or makes noise.” Mari twisted the lacing on her tunic between her fingers. “Usually I don’t mind too much, but…today I was mean and I asked her to be quiet anyway.”
Donnie cocked an eyebrow. “Why is that mean?”
“Because she wasn’t even very loud like she is sometimes. But it still made my ears hurt and my head fuzzy and my tummy all shaky.”
“Oh. That.” Donnie swiveled the goggles back up to the top of his head.
“Can you make it better?”
“Of course not.”
He spoke little too quickly and bluntly, based on the absolutely crestfallen look that overtook her.
Donnie added, “But only because there’s nothing to fix. Aversion to auditory stimulation isn’t an illness that you take medicine for.”
He knew what it was like to feel overstimulated. And he’d read enough medical journals to understand sensory issues and how to handle them. It didn’t mean that Mari was deficient, just that she was more sensitive than most. She needed quiet and privacy more than noise and social interaction.
He watched as her eyes began to fill again. Oh, Hawking. Of course no one had ever explained this to her. From what he heard, the clan’s so-called ‘healers’ hadn’t even bothered to treat Usagi’s wounds when he was a child for fear it would hinder the mystic tattoos. With that level of incompetence, Donnie was surprised him and his siblings had survived for as long as they did.
“Auditory hypersensitivity isn’t uncommon,” said Donnie. “Adaptability is optimal in someone your age, and it’s just a matter of mitigating the stimulation to a tolerable level and practicing coping strategies for moments when extenuation is impossible.”
Mari blinked.
Donnie sighed. “Your body doesn’t like loud noises. That’s okay. You’re not sick, and you’re not stupid.”
“But Riko likes loud noises. And being busy. And being around lots of other people all the time…”
“So?” said Donnie. “Twins can be different.”
Her face fell, and he wondered what the problem was. He and Leo had never really been alike. He'd thought that sort of thing when it came to siblings and twins was obvious.
“Here.” Donnie tugged the headset loose from around his ears and plopped them onto her head. One quick twist adjusted the headband and tucked the speakers in close to her ears.
In true Donnie fashion, he hadn’t been able to resist enhancing his hearings aids to adjust volume and filter background noises. He spun the dial to what was essentially a ‘sound-canceling’ setting, and the fins retracted. (Strange to have that option for someone who was nearly deaf, but versatility was inestimable.)
Mari’s eyes widened.
“Quieter, right?” asked Donnie.
She nodded.
Donnie tapped a button that would emit a low wash of white noise. He watched with satisfaction as Mari’s shoulders relaxed and the faintest of smiles threatened to break through.
“Better?” Donnie couldn’t hear his own voice, much less her answer, but he could easily surmise what her vigorous nod meant.
“Stay here where I can see you.” He pointed to a nearby stool. “And if you break those I will make myself new ones out of your ears.”
She smiled and nodded again. Probably couldn’t hear a word he was saying. Perfect.
He turned back to his desk and flipped to a blank page in his sketchbook to begin the basic design. It wasn’t a staggering challenge, but recreating his tech to fit a rabbit yokai and grow with her would provide an interesting afternoon project. It should occupy him for a few hours, at least, and the way Mari immediately hopped onto the nearest swiveling stool and snagged a book on the evolutionary processes of insects told him she could entertain herself quietly for however long it took.
He would make hers smaller and lighter, of course. Fitted so they wouldn’t even be noticeable once they were in place, hidden under the tufts of fur around her ears.
He didn’t bother to ask what color she wanted.
How fortuitous that she already wore purple.

“All right,” said Donnie. “The next event is–”
“Mine!” Mikey shouted. “My favorite! Mine!”
“Yes, Michael, hold on.” Donnie tugged loose the lid on a barrel full of fireworks and withdrew two oversized Roman candles.
Mikey lunged.
One of Donnie’s titanium arms clamped onto the nape of Mikey’s shell, holding him back. “Wait for the starting shot.” He lit both fuses and handed one of the fireworks to Raph. Raph nodded and took his place at the starting line.
“Gimme!” Mikey’s hands opened and closed rapid-fire.
“Just a moment.”
“Gimme-gimme-gimme-gimme-gimme!”
“Michael, remember this time please, we are on a team so you have to hand it to me when–”
Splinter cracked the starting pistol.
“FIRECRACKER!” Mikey tore free from the titanium arm, snatched the explosive from Donnie’s hand, then pelted down the trackway and veered straight towards Raph.
With his own sizzling explosive gripped firmly in his left hand, Raph lumbered forward, each step hammering. When Mikey slammed into him, his stride barely stuttered.
Mikey clung to his brother’s limb upside-down, arms and feet grappling like a spider monkey. With a feral yell, he chomped on Raph’s wrist.
He gnawed for a solid ten seconds before Raph seemed to realize what was happening. Within moments the trackway had a trail of blood in his wake, and more splattered as he began to shake his arm, trying to dislodge Mikey.
Stubborn as a tick, Mikey held fast.
“Leggo!” said Raph. “Raph wants it this time!”
Mikey shouted something unintelligible and bit down even harder. With a roar, Raph tossed his Roman candle.
Like a dog after a stick, Mikey bolted after the firework. He leaped to snatch it in midair, then continued running in a mad dash around the circular track.
Heaving a sigh, Donnie plucked two more firecrackers from the barrel and lit them. He offered one to Leo, who merely smiled and shook his head.
“SECOND LAP!” Mikey rocketed past the starting point, snatching both of the new explosives from Donnie before tearing away down the track once more.
“I was under the impression,” said April, as she panned the camera after him, “That the point of a relay is to pass the batons, not collect them.”
“Shhhhh,” said Leo. “Let him have this. It makes him so happy.”
As Mikey charged towards the finish line, Raph gave chase. But there was no catching up with Mikey when he was this hyper. He crossed the finish line and skidded to a halt. With the four rapidly-burning fuses still clutched in his arms, he whirled, grinning like a maniac.
“I HAVE ALL THE FIRECRACKERS!” he howled. “I GOT HERE FIRST AND I HAVE ALL THE–”
BOOM
April had to pull her eye away from the camera lens at the resulting flash. Once the spots in her vision cleared, she refocused the lens on the victorious Mikey.
He rocked woozily, flat on his back, his face, arms, and plastron smoking. His mask had completely burned up, save for a tiny scrap that lay on the concrete beside his head, sizzling.
Donnie walked over, an attachment on his battleshell unfurling. He pointed the nozzle at Mikey and released the fire-extinguishing spray.
“So…” April asked, as Mikey shot upright, sputtering and swiping at his face. “...does that count as a win?”
“Certainly,” said Donnie. “For the firecrackers.”

Something hit the window.
ping
Usagi cracked an eye just long enough to see if the glass had cracked. The panes, though grimy, were still intact.
He returned to his meditation.
ping
Usagi frowned. Was the upstairs neighbor traipsing back and forth across the fire escape again? If he had to deal with another incident of bolts and screws coming loose because of his deranged pacing…
ping
ping
ping
Three in rapid succession could be neither accidental nor ignored. Someone was tapping - purposefully - to get his attention.
Usagi unfolded his legs from seiza, stood, and crossed to the window. Why whoever-it-was couldn’t use the door, he had no idea. The window clinked twice more before he twisted the latch and slung open the sash.
He leaned his head out, narrowly avoiding another thrown pebble as he turned his gaze to the street three stories below.
Looking up with that smarmy, tired smile was the bloodsucking turtle. When he saw Usagi, he halted the arc of his throwing arm and tucked the much-larger-than-a-pebble chunk of concrete behind his back. His grin widened. On the sidewalk in front of his feet, a clotted, bloody trail traced the outline of a heart.
Leo waved.
Usagi slammed the window.

“And your choice for the first event,” April said slowly, “Is the ‘minefield long jump’?”
Raph gave a slow grin. “Start with a bang.”
Leo giggled, but April remained unimpressed as always. The fact that she had found all of them and failed to run away screaming at first contact was testament enough to her fortitude. She seemed just as unphased by the idea of death-defying, twisted olympics as anything else they had introduced her to.
Which was what had made them all so giddy when she agreed to video record their lair games excursion.
She flicked a braid behind her shoulder and turned the angle of the camera to point downwards, zooming on the layer of dirt that had been raked and smoothed across the dried-out sewer channel. “Where does one even find military-grade mines?”
“Salvage, of course,” said Mikey. He stretched, twisting one foot up behind his back and over his head at an impossible-looking angle, like a contortionist. “And Donnie makes replicas and fills them with shrapnel.”
Donnie tightened a bolt on the back of his knee. “Even more damaging than any from the world war eras. I add a volatile fuel composite to the firing pistons.”
“And who is the reigning champion of these…modified…olympics?” April swiveled the lens between the four boys.
Leo puffed up, about to answer–
“Raph goes first!” Raph barrelled forward, Mrs. Cuddles across his shoulders like a toddler clinging piggyback. He leaped, arcing over the long stretch of dirt. For someone so large, he went a surprising distance before both his feet slammed into the ground, sending up a spray of dirt and gravel.
In the silence afterward, Raph wiggled his toes. “Huh. No mine.”
“Good job, buddy!” said Leo.
Raph smiled, pleased, and gave a thumbs-up. Mrs. Cuddles slipped from his shoulders and landed in the dirt just behind him.
Click.
POW
A flurry of stuffing exploded around Raph like a snowstorm. He gasped, snatching at the puffs of cotton.
“Oh,” said April, sadly. “He lost his stuffie.”
“Not to worry, we have many Mrs. Cuddles replicas as back up,” said Donnie. “Raphael! Clear the field, the rest of us have turns to take!”
Raph ignored him and continued to painstakingly gather each piece of fluff from the little circle of destruction. Which turned out fine, because both Mikey and Leo were able to take their turns and jump well past his mark, anyway. They used poles to vault over him as he crouched in the pile of stuffing and tried to form it back into the vague shape of Mrs. Cuddles.
“If equipment is permitted, why didn’t Raphael use a pole for his vault?” asked April.
“He snaps them too easy,” said Leo, sauntering back from his jump. His blue flag marked the furthest distance so far, just past Mikey’s orange. He held out a new pole to Donnie, his head torqued sideways. “Here, Donnie. I brought you one from the spare rack. It was on the way back from the winning distance.”
“Too obvious, Nardo,” said Donnie. He waved Leo off and unclipped his tech bo from one of the compartments on his shell. “I will use my reliable equipment, as always.” He set his grip, got a running start, planted the bo, and leaped.
Leo clapped his hands over his mouth to stifle a snicker – a split second before it happened.
The bo crackled at one of its joints, snapped, and Donnie dropped.
Click.
POW
This time instead of a flurry of stuffing, there was a geyser of blood and oil.
“Leeeeoooooo,” said Mikey, “Did you sabotage Donnie’s tech again?”
“Who, me? I would never.”
As the spatter of fluids settled, Donnie sat up. April hurried over to assist him.
“No, no,” he said. “I’m quite capable of getting up on my own. House rules apply, after all. Survival means I get a second run.”
“Donatello,” said April. “You have no leg to stand on.”
He glanced down. Sure enough, his left leg had blown apart at the knee, leaving the dirt dark and clotted as it soaked up leaking fluids.
He sighed. “Of course. I’ve already lost sight in one eye and most of my hearing, why not add to the collection.”
Leo smirked as he skipped past Donnie towards the medal podium. “Better luck next year, brother!”
From across the canal, Splinter’s voice echoed: “Purple wins.”
Leo slowed, his smile dropping ever-so-slightly. In tandem, they all turned their gazes to the far end of the sewer pipe. The flag marker for the record jump - still blue – fluttered as a drainage pipe above it spat a slurry of sludge.
But well beyond that, jutting up from the muck where it had landed, was Donnie’s severed leg. Its toes twitched.
Leo’s smile completely disappeared.
Heaving himself up from the dirt, Donnie balanced on his remaining foot as his missing knee continued to spurt. He smirked at Leo as he hopped to go retrieve his limb. “Better luck next year, brother.”

Addams! AU snippet 5: 'Kidney'
FULL CREDIT TO WRITER NewFallenLeaves ON A03! SHE HAS SO MANY BANGERS, THIS IS JUST A TINY TASTE OF HER TALENT!!!! PLEASE GO READ HER STUFF AND SUPPORT HER!!!! I SAY PLEASE BUT I AM DEMANDING NOT ASKING!!!!! GIVE HER LOVE!!!!!
As always, additional art! I'm sure this is what Mikey thought he looked like in this snippet, lol!
Tumblr media
Full snippet below the cut! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
“Donnie!” Mikey dashed into the lab without knocking and flung himself onto the dissection table. “Take out my kidneys.”
“Not that it’s going to influence my answer either way,” said Donnie, already unfurling the blades on his mechanical hand, “But why?”
Mikey dug through his pockets and unrolled a burlesque magazine. He pointed to the front cover and a model who was wearing an orange, pink, and black laced corset with frills and embroidered sugar skulls, reminiscent of ‘Day of the Dead’ festival decorations. “I wanna wear that.”
“So wear it,” said Donnie. He filled a syringe with a noxious-looking yellow fluid. “You dress in that tawdriness regardless of how many times we’ve said it makes you look asinine. What’s that got to do with your innards?”
“I tried a corset from the costume bin at Mama’s, like the highwire dancers wear, but it doesn’t look the way it’s supposed to.” Mikey leaned down to buckle his ankles into the dissection table’s straps. “I read that human ladies got their ribs and kidneys and livers and stuff taken out to get the shape right. So you can do that for me, right?”
“Of course I can, but removing your internal organs will have no bearing on the forms of your carapace and plastron, those are inflexible.”
“Wait, you mean you ca–aahhhhhnnn’t…” The word trailed away as Mikey slumped backwards, limbs slack, head lolling.
“Oops,” said Donnie, removing the syringe from Mikey’s neck. “Did I accidentally administer sedation before you could retract your request? What a shame.”
He set the needle aside and snapped a surgeon’s glove onto his hand, ignoring the puncture that already marred the palm and the stains from the samples he’d been working on previously.
“Well, the subject volunteered and is already fortuitously in a prepped state. Might as well make sure the opportunity to harvest doesn’t go to waste. What was that, Mikey? How many organs did you say I could take?”
He strapped Mikey’s arms in place and straightened his head by locking a clamp around his neck.
“As many as necessary?” Donnie said. “What a generous offer! I always knew you wouldn’t hold out on me. Not like Leo.”
Donnie clicked one of the bone saws on his mechanical hand into place and it began to spin, pitching into a piercing whine.
“This is why you’re my favorite brother!” Donnie said, raising his voice above the noise. He slid his goggles into place and peered at the armored ribbing along Mikey’s side. “And because of that, while I’m at it, I’ll see what I can do about the plastron and the carapace. What do you say?”
He reached his free hand up to Mikey’s head and gave it a nod.
“Great! We’ll make this a quick outpatient procedure. You’ll be on the highwire by the end of the night, and my freezer will be stocked.”
And with that, he got to work.
***
Barely three hours later, Leo watched as Mikey twirled through the living room in his corset, imitating the routine he’d seen the highwire dancers perform. Unfortunately, he seemed to lack their grace. His feet dragged clumsily across the concrete and each dip and sway made it appear as though he were drunk.
“Leeee-ooooooh,” said Mikey, “Do I look preeeeeettttyyyy in my corset?”
Leo eyed him thoughtfully. An intoxicated Mikey was a completely normal occurrence. So was the choice of clothing; he was always wearing showy outfits for the circus. This one seemed to fit a little more snugly than usual, but not in a way that looked out of sorts.
No, what alerted Leo was something else entirely.
“Mikey,” said Leo. “Why are you yellow?”
“Hm?” Mikey tried to spin on one foot and wound up tumbling into Splinter’s chair. “Whaddya mean?”
“Your skin should be green. Not the same color as your spots.”
Mikey held up one arm and twisted it in front of him, as if looking at it for the first time. “Oh!” he said. “That’s the jaundice.”
“And why are you jaundiced?”
“I think,” said Mikey, scrunching up his face like a toddler thinking very hard about something. “Donnie said…it was because of my kidneys. No! My liver. That thing. Wait, maybe both! Because they’re gone now. To make room inside my plastron!”
“Uh-huh.” Leo grasped Mikey by the wrist and hauled him up out of the chair, towards Donnie’s lab.
“Did you know,” Mikey giggled, allowing himself to be dragged, “That human ladies take out their ribs and stomachs and lungs and stuff so they can wear corsets?”
He was still sniggering when Leo toppled him back onto the dissection table.
“Hey,” said Donnie, “Don’t clutter my workspace with little brothers.”
“Fix him,” said Leo.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Put Mikey’s organs back.”
Mikey gasped and sat up. “But then I won’t fit into my corset!”
“See?” said Donnie, “He doesn’t even want them!”
“Donnie…”
“I was just about to put them in the embalming jars!”
“If I can’t wear a corset then what’s the point of living?”
“All the experimentation timelines will go to waste! I have them prepped!”
Leo folded his arms. “Put Mikey’s organs back, or I’m telling Mama.”
“Gasp!” said Donnie.
“Snitch!” said Mikey.
“You’re bluffing,” said Donnie. “You despise talking to her, you would never.”
“I hate you groveling over her approval more, but I’ll leverage it if I have to,” said Leo. He spun his sword to open a portal, and through it, they could clearly see Mama’s plush office. He took a step towards the gateway. “I don’t think she’d approve of you jaundicing her favorite little circus pet.”
“Okay okay okay!” said Donnie, desperately. “Mikey, sit still.”
“No!” Mikey lurched like he wanted to roll off the table, and looked ready to run. “I won’t go back to being a corset-less turtle!”
Donnie extended the titanium arms from his shell and grappled with Mikey as he began to thrash. “Leo, quit with the blackmail. Be useful and help me.”
“You made the mess,” said Leo. He swiped the portal out of existence. “You fix it.”
If Donnie was being completely honest, his efforts were not completely wasted. He did get to do exploratory surgery and pioneer a plastron/carapace shaping technique that did, in the end, make Mikey’s waist a bit narrower. Plus, he got to strap Mikey down and sedate him twice in the same day.
Small victories.

Usagi had just about managed to convince himself that his encounter with the creepy turtle had been a one-time thing.
His actions had been so…encroaching. (Who licked someone’s open wound?) And the intensity of his gaze as he’d stepped backwards through the portal had seemed less like the unhinged stare of a psychopath and more like a promise. Usagi had gone about his business on the following days with the unshakable feeling that the turtle was not at all gone.
But one week had turned into two, his wounds were on the mend, and he’d seen no sign of the strange mutant since.
Slowly, it began to feel like nothing more than an uncomfortable memory.
On the third week after the incident, Usagi had finished his nightly routine of kata practice and stepped into the washroom to clean up before retiring for the evening. A breeze, cool after a warm day, blew through the ajar window and teased the hem of the open curtains. He leaned over the basin splashed his face and arms lightly.
A light flared in the mirror.
He whirled, in time to see another burst, the unmistakable glare of a camera flash. He darted to the window, slamming it open.
On a fire escape across the alley, the turtle held said camera in one hand, the other clapped over his mouth as he shook with mirth.
Shit. Shit.
By the time Usagi made it down the stairs and out onto the street, the turtle was gone.
***
Usagi spent the following day looking over his shoulder at every street corner. It was a useless exercise in paranoia. The turtle already knew where he lived.
Before he ducked into the ground-floor entry to his apartment building, he craned his neck, trying to catch a glimpse of the rooftops, the fire escapes, the balconies. Anywhere the turtle might be hiding again, with a vantage point of his dwelling.
He saw nothing.
Once inside, with the door double-bolted and every curtain drawn, he allowed himself the barest modicum of relief.
Until he saw the paper on the center of his kitchen table.
Usagi was meticulously clean. He liked his dwelling uncluttered. The table never had anything on its surface other than a narrow, embroidered runner. But there, on top of the decorated cloth, sat a single photograph.
Fingers shaking, Usagi picked it up.
It was a photo of himself, turned to face the camera with a look of shock and dismay. It appeared to have been taken from a vantage literally just outside the window. Much, much closer than he’d seen the turtle. And the quality was laser sharp, with no glare from the glass panes. He could almost see the fibers in the texture of his fur. What kind of camera was this sophisticated?
It would have been an absolutely pristine snapshot, had the turtle not colored on the photo. In thick, red, globby pen. A clot of ink had been traced over Usagi’s head, just below his right ear. Another heavy scribble covered his forearm and hand, like a bloody wound. It only took Usagi a split second to realize they were poorly rendered likenesses of the injuries he’d gotten that day in the alley, when the turtle had literally dropped into his life.
He flipped the photo to look at the back. Perhaps it was just out of habit. The instinct of knowing that most people wrote names, dates, and special notes on the back of such keepsakes. If he’d thought about it more consciously, Usagi might have decided that he didn’t want to know.
But before he’d given himself a chance to realize that, he’d already turned the glossy sheet over.
In the same red pen it said:
Leo & Usagi First Date
And underneath it in a languid, looping scrawl:
‘Let’s do it again sometime!’
Usagi stared at the message, motionless.
Huh.
The turtle’s name was Leo.

Full snippet below the cut! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Leo held back as the two thugs moved into the alley after the rabbit yokai. Their posture, the way they checked quickly behind them to see if they were being observed, their attempts to keep their footfalls discreet – all of it was so obvious.
“Stealing my idea, assholes,” Leo muttered.
He waited until they were several feet past the entrance of the alley before darting over the gap to land on the opposite roof. From there, he swung down onto a fire escape platform, landing soundlessly. He crouched and peered through the iron slats of the railing, watching the little drama unfold below.
“Hey! Usagi.” The first thug spoke.
The rabbit yokai stiffened.
“What’d we tell you about comin’ this way, eh?”
Usagi didn’t even bother to turn. He bolted.
The two yokai burst into a sprint after him.
The alley only continued for another few yards before taking a ninety-degree turn. Leo scurried along the fire escape railing, then leaped for an iron pipe that ran vertically at the corner of the building. He caught it with one hand, let his momentum carry him around the corner, and then dropped, snagging a windowledge and clinging like a spider.
Below him, Usagi had come to a dead stop. The remainder of the alley was a jammed mess of twisted metal. The cab of a truck had somehow smashed in at a nearly-sideways angle, its hood crumpled and glass shattered. Its trailer was wedged, jutting partway out of the alley and into the street beyond.
One of the yokai cackled. “Didn’t expect us to block that, didja?”
“You stole and crashed an eighteen-wheeler in an alleyway, just to screw with me?” said Usagi.
“Sick and tired of you ducking us,” said the first yokai. He pulled a switchblade from his belt and flicked it open.
It was a little blade, barely a few inches. Hardly deadly. He lunged forward and swiped at Usagi, probably more to intimidate than to actually harm. But for whatever reason, Usagi seemed to have not been prepared for the sudden move, and the blade caught his forearm before he could back out of range.
Drips of blood hit the pavement.
The scent of it wafted, and Leo couldn’t stop himself from leaning forward.
Usagi backed into a corner near the truck’s front tires. He clutched at the wound, clearly trying to staunch the flow, but only succeeded in squeezing more rivulets from the open flesh. It dripped down his hand, tracing red clots through his pale fur. The thug stalked forward, blade out, grin widening.
“Back off, before you regret it,” said Usagi.
“Big talk,” said the thug. “But you’re just a scared little rabbit, you can’t do nothin’ about it–”
Leo dropped in front of him, sword already in motion.
It took the yokai’s arm off just below the elbow. For what felt like several seconds, the thug stared stupidly at the stump and his hand, which was now on the ground, fingers still clenched around the handle of the switchblade. “What the f–”
Leo flipped his grip on the sword and snapped the hilt into the yokai’s face. Cartilage cracked, and the yokai staggered backwards, clutching his nose with his remaining hand. Blood poured freely down over his mouth and chin. He glared at Leo through watery eyes, incredulous.
Leo blew him a kiss.
The yokai gurgled, looking unsteady on his feet. His friend gripped his shoulder, pulling him back the way they’d come. “Screw this!”
They fled.
Leo slung the sword over his shoulder, reveling in the pitter-patter of blood drips as they fell from the blade across his carapace. He turned to face Usagi, grinning–
–except he was gone.
Leo’s grin dropped a little. He spun in a circle, and just caught sight of a blue tunic disappearing into a gap under the truck’s bumper. Leo knelt, tipping his head to peer underneath the rig.
Usagi scrabbled on his belly, squirming through the tangle of wreckage and out the other side. Then he was back on his feet and dashing away.
Leo sighed, stood back up, and swung his blade in a circle. The portal crackled to life, and he stepped through.
Directly into Usagi’s path of escape.
Usagi skidded to a halt, eyes wide. Leo guessed he wasn’t used to getting his escape routes cut off very often. And to have it happen twice in a row was probably very disconcerting.
To his credit, Usagi seemed to handle it well. His eyes narrowed. “I suppose you want something.”
The corner of Leo’s mouth twitched.
“I don’t have any money, if that’s what you’re after.”
Leo debated. Did he want something? The original plan had been to stalk the guy and mug him, sure. But then those other two goons had meddled, Leo had swept in to intervene, and now there was something different about the whole dynamic. Besides, it was rather enticing watching the expressions on Usagi’s face morph through trepidation, uncertainty, even wary curiosity.
Leo leaned close. Usagi took an involuntary step back, his hands coming up defensively.
In one quick motion, Leo snapped his hand out, grabbed Sagi’s wrist, and ran his tongue over the open wound. For a moment, he lingered, reveling in the mingling taste of blood and sweat.
The look of complete shock and abject horror on Usagi’s face might have been even more delicious.
Leo licked his lips, released his hold, and with a flourish, opened a portal behind him. He stepped backwards through it, holding Usagi’s gaze until the blue light overtook him.
He giggled all the way home.

With your Addams! Tmnt au do you plan to make a full fanfic on ao3 or other platforms?
Also are we gonna see Raph in some snippets? ([Since I have no idea how he is in ur au]I thought it’d be funny to see him to react to all the things his siblings are doing )
:DD
Tumblr media
Currently, posting it other places is entirely up to my writers/co-creators, @/hellstrojanhorse and NewFallenLeaves ! We are planning to post Usagi's backstory on Fallen's account, but everything beyond that is entirely what they decide! As it is their work, I wouldn't feel comfy posting it on my own A03 account, bc it's not my work and such.
(Tho, between you and me, there is a chance I can convince Fallen to post them! If yall keep giving the snippets love (reblogging, commenting, liking, etc) I'm pretty sure I could convince her that it is in the publics greatest interest and get them released there!)
As for Raph, yes! He does show up! There are 3 Lair Games snippets in the editing phase that all feature him (one is even raph centric), and a few others that I shan't spoil ;) if you want any raph content for now, @/averyroundpumpkin did a lovely snippet that can be found here! Give her lots of support and love, she deserves it <333

Snippet 12 - Budding Romance
As always, credit to my co-creator NewFallenLeaves on a03 for the amazing snippet, go follow her and love on her she deserves it <3333
April 4th is Tomoe's birthday and I. Have been high for like a week straight so got nothing done. Have some art of younger her like 20-22 area and also a short snippet of a hopefully longer thing we're working on love yall.
Tumblr media
Full snippet below the cut! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Gennosuke spread his arms wide and flopped back into the row of tulips.
Tomoe gasped. “You’ll squash them!”
She grasped the lapels of his kimono and tugged, trying to pull him upright, to no avail. He grinned as she strained against his dead weight. With a frustrated huff, Tomoe let go and knelt in the dirt instead. When she began trying to pull flattened stems and blossoms from beneath his arms, he laughed aloud.
She slapped at him. “Stop making fun of me!”
“You’re so worried,” he said. He rolled onto his side, propping his chin in one hand.
“If anyone sees us near this mess, they’re going to think I’m the one who ruined your family’s flower garden–”
“Ugh, of course, how dare the grounds not remain with every plant and bloom sprouted in two-inch increments and organized by color gradation. Just like they have for the past three generations.” Gennosuke rolled his eyes. “Honestly, we can’t even live without the damn plants standing like little rows of soldiers. It’s stupid, Moe. If you ask me, this place needs to be roughed up a little bit.”
“That’s the last thing we need! I’ve already made a bad enough impression with your mother, do you want her to have another reason to hate me?”
“Let me take your mind off it.” Gennosuke plucked one of the unmarred tulips and pinched it between his teeth. He smirked around the stem and waggled his eyebrows.
Tomoe slapped her hands over her mouth to stifle the giggle that threatened to burst forth. She fought to keep her eyes narrowed, to not give in. “I hate you,” she said through the muffled press of her hands.
“Mmmm.” He took the tulip from between his teeth and tucked it behind her ear. “How much?”
She blushed. “Not even a little.”
"Thought so." He leaned forward, the lightest smile on his lips.
Her heart beat faster.

“Remember,” said Donnie, “Stay in the boat.”
Raph gave a grunt that could have been either acknowledgment or annoyance, it was hard to tell. He kept his stare fixated on the murky water in the tunnel ahead of them. From somewhere down the shadowed corridor echoed the sound of sloshing water and guttural hisses.
Above them, safe on a maintenance platform that was riveted to the sewer wall, April trained her camera on the same tunnel that Raph was fixated on. The beam from her camera was hardly bright enough to illuminate anything other than the immediate area, so the tunnel remained shrouded. Even so, Donnie could see the mechanism in the lens focusing and retracting as she tried to zoom in and catch a shot of what lay in the darkness beyond.
“So they’re like pets?” she asked.
“They’re not tame enough to be considered such, no,” said Donnie. He adjusted the rudder. “We just make sure they have enough food to support their broods. And we keep exits to the drainage tunnels shut, so they can’t escape into the wild.”
“And why, exactly, does your family like to maintain a colony of sewer gators?”
“Keep out humans,” said Raph. “And for wrestling practice.”
“Yes, Raph does enjoy agitating the gators and tussling with them every once in a while,” said Donnie. “Which he is not going to do today, right Raphael?”
Raph shot him a dirty look. “I would win.”
“We all know that,” said Donnie. “But the point of today is to make sure our team wins. Both of us, in the boat, crossing the finish line. Those are the rules.”
Leo smirked as he set the oars in place on the boat he and Mikey shared. “Last year, Raph almost ditched our chances when he tried to dive overboard just to wrestle the alpha.”
“He looked at me funny,” said Raph.
“And I’m glad you had it in you to forgive him, otherwise we wouldn’t have won and I would have been angry with you all year,” said Leo.
“I still don’t see why we have to decide the teams with rock-paper-scissors,” Mikey grumbled. “I always lose the first round, and I never get to be on Raph’s team.”
“Don’t worry, little brother,” said Leo. “Things are going to be different this year.”
“Bold claim from the boat that doesn’t have Raph,” said Donnie.
“Mikey deserves a win.” Leo smiled. “So I promised him one.”
April quirked an eyebrow at the confidence in his voice. Even though this was the first time she’d witnessed the Lair Games, she’d heard enough of the boys’ explanations and retellings to have an understanding of how the events worked. Apparently, Raph was undefeated when it came to Sewer Gator Slalom.
Unlike a typical slalom, there was no set course and the waterway lacked any markers or flags for the teams to loop their boats around. Instead, the ‘slalom’ part of the game referred to dodging the gators themselves, as they were abnormally large, aggressive, and protective of their territory.
Raph, however, was able to keep any of the oversized alligators from attacking his boat just by sheer intimidation. He would growl at any of the approaching predators and lash out, chasing them away before they could attack. It left a clear path for the boat to sail easily through the tunnel, so whichever brother happened to be on his team was guaranteed a win.
Donnie latched an oar into its eyelet and swung it experimentally. He caught the side of Leo and Mikye’s boat, making it jostle in the water. “Mikey wins the firecracker game every year, so there’s nothing wrong with Raph having a signature event.”
“Except when I never get to be on his team!” Mikey fumed.
“Funny, you don’t seem to care about teams when it comes to your relay of chaos,” said Donnie.
“You all could still try and run if you wanted, you’re just too slow to keep up with me and you know it!”
“Shh-shh,” said Leo. “You’re riling up the gators.”
Sure enough, the booming echoes of the argument bouncing off the tunnel walls seemed to have increased the amount of splashing and hissing coming from the waterway. Leo turned the spotlight lantern on the prow of the boat towards the sounds. The beam caught a flash of a massive spiked and scaly tail as it disappeared beneath the surface.
Donnie watched as April leaned over the safety railing – probably trying to get a closer shot of the giant alligators. “If you go in headfirst, I’m not diving after you,” he called up to her.
“Are you sure I can’t ride along? Get a closer shot?” she asked.
“We need a perfect winner’s photo as we cross the finish line in victory,” said Leo. He struck a pose. “Be sure to get my good side.”
“You don’t have a good side,” said Mikey.
“Don’t worry about trying to get Mikey in the photo,” said Leo.
“I’m gonna torch your room,” said Mikey.
“Try it, and I will chuck you overboard before we get to the first archway.”
“Ah, team-building banter,” said Donnie. “Please, keep at it. If you take each other out now, Raph and I can go straight to the victory lap.”
As the boys continued to bicker, Splinter clambered up the maintenance ladder to join April on the platform and unfurled the starting pennant. “First team to retrieve their flag from the alligator lair and return to cross the finish line wins the event. Both members must be present and accounted for, and all persons and appendages must remain inside the boat. No explosives, quantum engines, or portals permitted.”
“Sound like you’ve already prohibited very specific methods of cheating that would apply to each of them,” said April.
“You understand us so well already,” said Splinter. He smiled and raised his arm. “On your mark, get set, ROW!”
Leo and Mikey each heaved on their own set of oars, while Donnie manned one array on his boat and extended the spider arms from his battleshell to reach the second. Raph never did any rowing. He crouched at the bow, eyes narrowed, a low growl rumbling intermittently in his throat.
With their boat riding higher in the water due to less weight, Leo and Mikey pulled ahead. Beyond them, tell-tale swells in the water outlined the shape of three submerged alligators as the first defenders of the lair veered towards the boat that was in the lead.
Leo hauled forward on one oar and back on the other, sending the boat into a sharp turn that would steer them out of the way. One gator turned to follow, while the other two swerved toward Raph and Donnie instead.
Raph’s growl crescendoed. One alligator diverted aside, heading back toward the first boat.
But the other, heftier and bolder than its companions, continued on a beeline towards them, its mouth gaping.
Raph bared his teeth, growled, and punched at the gator’s head.
The heavy smack snapped the reptile’s jaw sideways, and more than one tooth went skimming across the surface of the water. The gator let out what could only be called a yelp – a sound Donnie hadn’t known they were capable of – and veered sharply away, its nose crooked and bloody.
Donnie smirked as the waterway in front of them cleared.
Deeper into the lair, the situation only compounded. More alligators slinked off their concrete shoreline nests to crowd the water, torpedoing toward Leo and Mikey the moment they heard Raphs snarls or caught sight of his bared teeth. Soon, Donnie and Raph had pulled neatly into the lead while Mikey and Leo were slowed by the ever-growing swarm of gators encircling their boat. They practically had no clear water to steer through anymore.
Donnie gave them a sarcastic salute with one of his spidershell arms.
The far end of the tunnel was now in sight, and Donnie could see the flag dangling from its hook. No alligators blocked their way, this would be an easy snatch–
“Hey, Raa-aaph!”
Several yards behind them on the other boat, Leo dangled Mrs. Cuddles over the stern of his boat, the tip of one stuffed, rainbow ear pinched between his fingertips.
Raph gasped.
“Wait, Raph, no!” said Donnie. “That’s not your real Cuddles, it’s a decoy, don’t fall for it–"
Leo dropped the stuffie.
Mrs. Cuddles hit the surface, and the water churned with snapping teeth and thrashing jaws.
Raph dove headfirst overboard, thrashing through the water with all the grace of an elephant in a bathtub. He charged into the center of the mass of alligators, bellowing, throwing punches and kicks as well as was possible in twelve feet of murky sewer water. Gators snapped and writhed all around him, sending up geysers that caught Donnie in their spray, drenching him and slogging the bottom of the boat.
At the center of the living maelstrom, shredded pieces of colorful fabric and clots of sogged stuffing spread across the surface like the detritus of a shipwreck.
Before Donnie could even holler for his brother to get back here – to salvage the whole situation – an alligator rammed into his Raph-less, defensless vessel. It capsized.
The only consolation Donnie had was that Leo and Mikey weren’t far behind in taking a dunk with him.
Long minutes later, Donnie, Leo, and Mikey all finally managed to extricate themselves from the frenzy of the alligator lair and flounder back to the starting line. They dragged themselves dripping back onto the walkways.
“I hope you’re happy,” said Donnie, fixing Leo with a scathing glare.
Leo wrung out his mask tails. “I think Gator Wrestling should be a new event for next year.”
“That’ll just be another category for Raph to win!” said Mikey.
“If there are even any alligators left,” said April. She was panning her camera across the water. “I think you may have inadvertently decimated your colony.”
Scales, claws, and teeth floated across the surface. The growls and hisses from the gators had faded to almost nothing. From the darkened archway of the reptile lair came a nasty crack, followed by a heavy splash.
Silence.
Out of the darkness, the bulky form of a familiar snapping turtle came cutting through the canal. Raph slogged up onto the walkway, the lower half of a gator’s jaw in one hand and the remains of Mrs. Cuddles’ ear in the other. He stomped toward Leo.
“Hey, buddy,” said Leo. “Guess what? Donnie was right, that was just a decoy. Your real Mrs. Cuddles is totally safe back in–gaaahh!”
The newest event added to the Lair Games was not, in fact, Gator Wrestling.
Instead, it was Punt-a-Leo.

“Hold still, you little scumsucker.” As the burly human patted Mikey down, he came up quickly with two small daggers tucked into Mikey’s belt, as well as the ones hidden in the holster at the small of his back. “Shit, kid, how many more knives have you got, huh? Cough ‘em up.”
“Well,” said Mikey, “There’s the whole family with Mr. Stabby, and Miss Gashy, and the Puncture Brothers, and Auntie Slicer, and–”
The pile of small blades was already over half-a-dozen strong, and the man still managed to find three more.
“Oh, no!” Mikey wailed as the last one hit the table. He twisted against the tight ropes that bound his wrists behind his back, “You’re going to take all of them?”
“We know who sent you, we’re not taking any chances.” Finally satisfied, the man hauled Mikey none-too-gently by the elbow and dragged him out of the covered wooden cart that served as the freak show’s ‘office.’
The small encampment was reminiscent of a traveling gypsy convoy, with colorfully painted covered wagons. Some were cages for “FEARSOME GRUESOME MUST-SEE MUTANTS” with bold-lettered signs and warnings to stay back. Others were smaller, with striped awnings and shelves of cheap merchandise or galleries of rigged carnival games, with “STEP RIGHT UP AND TAKE A CHANCE” invitations for any fool willing to throw away hard-earned coin.
The heavy-set human dragged Mikey toward one of the larger cage carts. “Gonna put you someplace where you’re too worried about stayin’ alive to think about running off or causin’ trouble.”
He stopped in front of the enclosure. It looked as sparse and uncomfortable as any of the other terrible accommodations in the traveling freakshow. Unadorned iron bars, no straw or hay strewn for the mutant held within. The guard shoved Mikey through and slammed the cell door behind him.
Mikey tumbled onto the grated metal floor, lying prone while he waited for the man’s footsteps to fade. As soon as everything was silent, he flipped upright. From the corner of the cage came a low, throaty growling, and the occupant of the cell rose to his feet.
Even hunched, the alligator mutant was massive. Four times Mikey’s size. Larger than Raph, even, and little else save teeth and muscle.
“Don’t be…alarmed.” Every word the alligator spoke was slow and deliberate. “I…won’t harm you.”
“I know!” said Mikey. “I made Donnie do research on everything before I came.”
“You…know?”
“Woulda been pretty stupid for me to run in here without knowing everything about this lame-o sideshow. Besides, getting details is easy. It was supposed to add to Mama’s Spectacle Spectacular, after all. She bought it. And it woulda been such a cool thing, too! Everybody loves her circus, she has all the nicest hotel rooms for her performers, and you get to eat at the buffet, and the bar is open all night, and–”
“You…don’t seem…concerned,” said the alligator. “Were you…not poached…like the rest of us?”
“Ha! Nobody could poach me if they tried. Know how much Donnie has to add to his tranq formula to knock me out? Betcha don’t, because it’s a lot. I have resistance.” With a quick roll of his hips and shoulders, Mikey twisted his bound hands from behind his back and hopped over them like a backward jump rope. “Boy, am I glad they put me in here, you’re my first choice, anyway.”
“For…what?”
“For helping, of course! These humans turned out to be a bunch of dirty, no-good, double-crosser, deal-breaker cheaters, and they took Mama’s money and tried to cut and run. So now Mama wants me to burn the whole thing to the ground! Isn’t that great?! Anyway, are you good with pulverizing all the stuff? Because Raph didn’t wanna come, he was busy watching the Mrs. Cuddles’ Puppets-in-Peril Halloween Specials marathon. So if you could go ahead and do all the smashing, that would be awesome.”
“…smashing?”
Instead of replying, Mikey stuck out his tongue as he reached for a spot on the back of his neck, just below the rim of his shell. He withdrew a short, narrow length of sharpened metal, and proceeded to cut through the ropes.
“You managed…to sneak in a weapon,” the alligator marveled.
“Pffft,” said Mikey. “He only took my knives. This is my shiv.”
With his hands free, Mikey took a moment to stretch like a dancer before a routine. Then he promptly flopped down into a sitting position, legs crisscrossed. He set the shiv down on the floor of the cage and began pulling random assorted items out from non-existent pockets in his clothing and lining them up. “I still got lots of good stuff, see? This is my bolo, and this is my garrote, and this is my ice pick, and this is my can opener, and this is my bookend, and this is my cherry pitter, and this is my…”
The alligator watched as Mikey continued unabated. He blinked slowly at each new addition to the stockpile, his face becoming more and more skeptical as the items became less and less…perilous. When Mikey placed a penny down, he finally spoke.
“What…exactly…do you intend to accomplish…with a coin?”
“Ooooo, goody, I’m glad you noticed, I like this one.” Mikey flipped the penny with his thumb and caught it between his fingers. When he held it up to the light, the sharpened edge all around its circumference gleamed. “We’ll use it first!”
He tugged loose a lacing from the knee of his pants and looped it around the penny. Then he stood, approached the bars of the cage, took a deep breath…and began shrieking.
“HELP HELP MISTER JAILER GUY, I’M SCARED I DON’T WANNA GET EATEN BY AN ALLIGATOR!” Mikey twisted and rammed his shell against the bars to make even more noise. The camp echoed with resounding, repeated clang-clang-clang. “LEMME OUT LEMME OUT LEMME OUT OH PLEASE OH PLEASE!”
Several of the freakshow guards were on ‘patrol,’ roaming the perimeter of the camp. One who was nearby didn’t exactly come running, but he did seem annoyed and stepped quickly in the direction of the cage. “Shut up, kid. The more you screech the faster that freaking monster’s gonna chomp on you, just to get the goddamn noise to sto–”
The guard’s yells pitched up into a howl as a razor-edged penny, launched like a slingshot, lodged in his eye.
“What’s wrong?! What’s wrong?!” a fellow guard hurried up to assist him.
Mikey grinned as he picked up another weapon from his cache, aimed it between the bars, and punched a button.
Two metal barbs pierced the second man’s chest and an electrical current lit up his entire frame with sparks. He collapsed to the ground, convulsing.
“That’s my taser,” Mikey said. He reached through the bars and fished a keyring out of the guard’s pocket and quickly released the lock. He jumped onto the cage door and rode it as it swung open, dropping the taser in the dirt beside the unfortunate human, current still running.
“Come on, mister—ah–” Mikey craned his neck to look at the advertisement emblazoned across the top of the cage, “--Lethal Leatherhead! Smashy-smash, while I torch everything!”
Tentatively, Leatherhead stepped out of his enclosure. “You wish…to burn everything? With what…?”
But Mikey had already withdrawn a liquid-filled bottle from some hidden pocket in his coat. He drew a long, silken scarf from his glove by sleight of hand, flicked it to catch the flame on the tail of his mask, and then stuffed the burning wick into the neck of the bottle. “Molotov cocktail!”
He flung the bottle through the window of the largest wagon. The resulting explosion blew out the remaining glass, and Mikey dashed forward to intercept as guards raced to escape the inferno.
“What the hell is going o–”
“Machete!”
The man who had unluckily blundered closest to him gurgled, the handle blooming from his throat.
“Clothespins!”
Another guard screeched and flailed as two small wooden clips were driven into his eyes.
“Lanyard!”
Strangled gagging.
“Teacup!”
Wailing.
Leatherhead watched from the open door of his enclosure as Mikey continued his spree, shrieking the name of every item he produced and laughing maniacally as he dashed from one victim to the next.
A rhinoceros mutant in the cage next to his leaned towards the bars. “Friend of yours?”
“If it will convince him…to not jam a small kitchen tool down my throat…” Leatherhead ripped apart the hinges on the rhino mutant’s cage, “...then I will readily be his friend.”
The screech of “Rice paddle!” and a subsequent choking sound echoed across the grounds. Both mutants cringed.
“...rice paddle. Sure.” The rhino tagged along after Leatherhead as he moved to next cage. As that door bashed open, a warthog mutant jumped free and clasped hands with the rhino. They jostled briefly before turning to flee into the night. “Good luck with your crazy friend.”
“Bottlecap!” Mikey cackled from somewhere across the camp. “Stapler!”
Wet, squelching thumps and more screams.
A gangly mutant with mantis-like arms lounged near the door of his enclosure, watching Leatherhead expectantly. “That kiddo yous got over there has the right idea, I say,” he drawled.
Leatherhead nodded. “Fist,” he said. And punched the cage.

WOAH, I really love ur Addams/rottmnt AU! I really love their designs, especially April and Mayhem's! few questions
why is mikey so feral in this AU
Whats raph like? he's always so quiet and Donnie looks like an evil scientist
LEOSAGI LEOSAGI LEOSAGI-
APIRIL AND MAYHEM YOOOOOOOOO
hows splints and casey(or Cassandra) in this au AKA Could you share some stuff on this beautiful au pls (don't mean to come off as demanding just in case XP)
OQNQOWJEOENDJF IM SO GLAD YOU LIKE IT AAAAAA I FAINTED AGAINST MY ARMCHAIRS FR/POS
But yes I do have some answers for these!
1. Mikey is feral mostly bc he's very spoiled and he grew up In an environment that encouraged behavior like that! He is the 'Mama's boy' (in the AU, Splinter and Big Mama are canonically married, Splints still lives in the NY sewers, BM still in hidden city and her hotel), and BM definitely encourages his bad behavior. No one really tells him no, and he's an attention hog. He likes getting reactions so doing outlandish stuff and saying cruel things gets him that reaction! He's also an adrenaline junky and a pyromaniac, he'll put himself/others into danger for fun! Plus, BM DOES treat him like a pet, what do you expect. Boy is flea ridden/hj
2. Raph is very quiet and stoic! He still hates being alone, but he also definitely Dislikes being bothered, teased, or pranked. While the most outwardly 'chill', he's very quick to violence. He is the reason Leo has those bite/teeth marks on his shell! Raph bit him <3. His comfort item is Mrs. Cuddles and he always has her with him, which definitely makes it a target for Mikey shenanigans and such! He does still love hugs and snuggles tho, and likes bows, sewing, and cartoons! He doesn't talk much, and he especially won't if his brothers aren't around. He doesn't care much about anything, he's just along for the ride! The brothers often try to, like, 'sic' Raph on eachother by blaming things or just asking REALLLYYYYY nicely (also yes, Don is definitely a mad scientist. Please get him some lab safety etiquette at least some lab goggles)
3. LEOSAGI <3333333 ACTUALLY JUST MY COMFORT CHARACTERS I SWEAR. I have a writer friend who enjoys making small snippets of this AU, and I may ask her if I can post them here or if she would like to post them on A03? So yall can get even more content of the Boyz <3 (NewFallenLeaves on A03! Check out her ROTTMNT stuff, it's wonderful)
4. APRIL AND MAYHEM YES!!!!!! They are both definitely some of my favorite designs of this AU, April is just so beautiful and Mayhem is such a little Creatur. Babey demon demigorgon. Evil beast/pos (fun fact! Mayhems face can split apart in 4 different ways, one way looking like a demigorgon! I'll probably post that sketch sometime soon!)
5. Splinter is great! As Lou Jitsu, he was a film star who behind the scenes was involved in a lot of crime, especially back in Japan with things like the Yakuza. As a rat, he is VERY MUCH based on Gomez Addams. He's fun loving, caring, and loves a good spar session. He may be a bit neglectful of his boys (same as in canon) but he loves and accepts their weird and wacky behavior all the same.
This is his design! Some bits may change but as it stands I am happy w/ it! :D
Tumblr media
He owns a decent of pieces of the Shredder Armour as, like, almost trophies? It also helps mean that the Foot will not build the Shredder fully, Aka none of that mess to deal with :]
As for Cassandra, she's not really in the AU at all! I just haven't really been able to think of much for her. As an antagonist, I didn't know whether to lean towards more Addams esque behavior or make her more 'normal' (as normal as she can be JSBSJEB) to have a type of parallel. Idk? Any suggestions and ideas for her would be welcome and I'd tag you if I ended up using/posting any of it!
As for extra content, tomorrow or in the next following days I will either post more random sketches, more Usagi lore (specifically his family) or maybe some finished refs? Whatever I feel like, so look for that >:]
