well! now i wanna know what's your t20 for books omg
and ugh yes virgin suicides was such a love for me to for similarish reason(s) - the lisbon sisters were very frozen in time/spiritually paralyzed to me. it acc reminds me sm of kirsten dunst in interview with a vampire n how paralyzed claudia felt by being unable to age
oh n i just googled jesus saves n it sounds up my alley i wanna read it sometime but how graphic would you say it is?
no i get it - like i do get the appeal of whiplash n there are parts of it i like (like the driving scene LOL)
but anyways pope rly is pretentious if perfect blue is his fav of the bunch omg i love him. now i feel like he'd make fun of me for preferring black swan over it n telling me it's just a perfect blue rip-off n accusing me of only liking it bc mila n natalie get freaky in it 😭
-🐰
okay top to books!!!! just to keep it simple lol my top 5 will be in order after that its just me throwing em in there.
sula - toni morrison. favorite book of all time I have multiple copies of it and it's the absolute best story of female friendship imo and as a midwestern black girl I really resonated in ways I don't always resonate with books about southern black culture. sula mae peace was a low down diabolical woman and I love her
jesus saves - darcey steinke. this book is pretty graphic esp the scenes with sandy and her kidnapper. the dual povs are great and its one of the bleakest novels ive ever had the pleasure of reading. I was sat in shock when I finished
little birds - anais nin. my fav erotica book I like this more than delta of venus and there's actually a picture I took of the book thats popular on Pinterest and goes viral on tumblr/twitter all the time LOL. a major comfort read during one of the worst years of my life.
the moth diaries - rachel klein. read it last year it was such a good introspective work that honestly the vampirism felt both secondary and integral to the narrators plight like you can see her sanity slip over time and yet tou sit there wishing either shes right so she can have at least one thing to grasp onto or wishing she was wrong so she can feel some peace.
chouette - claire oshetsky. MY FAVVVVV BOOK ON MOTHERHOOD its magical realism and you can read it as an allegory or read it as literal which is what I prefer to do. a quick read but its so touching in its strangeness.
lolita - vladimir nabokov. technically a top 5 but its a book thats so integral to me that I can't properly rank. the way he played with words and the depth of the book is just unparalleled. I reread it once a year and although I love the 97 film it cannot come close to the book. its filled with such lush visuals and such sensuous language I get into discourse about it all the time because people either hate it due to misconceptions or they love it but feel guilty so they have to virtue signal in the most obnoxious ways. im a separate third thing.
the discomfort of evening - marieke lucas rijneveld. this is what lapvona wanted to be…it was dark and uncomfortable at many times and you feel just as isolated as the characters in some ways it feels like if the vvitch happened in more modern times with how the family dealt with grief and death in a small religious community it was kinda gross at times tol.
earthlings - sayaka murata. another very gross book and I would go into this carefully bc its very explicitly about csa. the main character was a wonderful depiction of how parental neglect, sexual abuse and trauma can leave a person stunted and how they can end up in very unsavory circumstances. the ending was wild.
nausea - jean paul sarte. my first "philosophical" book and it really....hit kinda close but it became a comforting read. I was coming off my Hell Year and I was still dealing with a lot of depression and just emptiness and that book encapsulated a lot of my emotions.
the nun - denis diderot. one of the funniest books ever im not playing. its about a young girl who becomes a nun because shes a child of adultery in the 18th century and her life just gets worse and worse as random shit keeps happening to her. it has homoeroticism and blasphemy and was conceived as a prank where diderot wrote letters as the MC. once you get into the language its such a crazy ride.
pope is a satoshi kon stan down so he feels very strongly about his work being ripped off by aronofsky!!! he argues about black swan being a lesser film all the time but I would say paprika is his fav

episode seven:
– SARAH’S NARRATION
– also, kook academy flashbacks lasted for three seconds lol
– topper you need to shut it
– “yo kie” “yo top” yeah, that was an improv from maddie and austin
– also, kie’s hairstyle is so cute
– jj and john b are best comedians ever
– jj eating chicken from the fridge is my mood
– yeah ward and rafe deserve each other
– also, i never thought i’d say this, but i supported ward when he yelled at rafe
– KIARAH BEST FRIENDS SCENE
– so there was an option for sarah to tease kie about jj and the writers simply let it slip
– it’s so refreshing to see john b with someone who is not his dad
– businessman rafe looks hot i have to admit it
– SOFIA finally
– so are being teased that it’s rafe who kills ward?
– sarah is so badass and honestly it’s her who should end ward. also madelyn’s acting is so great
– yeah, we don’t want the gold. except yeah we do, we finally want to win something
– so jj doesn’t want to poke a bear which is kie’s dad is so mature of him
– “figure eight, the cut, one island” why didn’t you shut up mister hypocrite?
– john b admits his mistakes only to be hit by stopper train
– FENCE SCENE
– OMG IT’S NOT WHAT I EXPECTED AT ALL FROM THIS SCENE
– “thanks. okay, great, no, look” is not a correct answer to THAT
– so her cheating maybe had nothing to do with you, but had something to do with how she was feeling?
– oh the infamous fight scene
– it was ugly okay, nothing really to comment
– pope and cleo are detectives here, i love it

okay i have to say something about Goncharov, because ppl are so STUPID
I can't believe some ppl actually think Andrey doesn't love Goncharov, like THE SUBTEXT IS VERY CLEAR Do u think in 19-fucking-73 they were gonna make it that explicit? Even IF they made it more textual, it’s not even that kind of movie. Do you need a narrator to look out the screen and explain the clocks? Do you want Ice Pick Joe to keep a running commentary on his kills? Like, sure okay, I hear some of you now saying “but Sofia explains the pomegranate symbolism!” but it was to KATYA and it was also not fully stating the actual meaning, she was BEING SUBTLE. You still had to read between the lines.
But if you believe Andrey doesn’t love Goncharov by the end, then I’m just sorry, you were watching it wrong

First day of the sneaky Princess at Humans and Monsters Academy
James: Little sis and bro, are you ready?
Clara and David: Yes sir!! *talks to each other in minds since they can read minds like their siblings, cousins and their mother Sun and aunt Moon* I wonder who will be our first friend and which teacher we can prank on the fourth day
Sun: I read your minds kids, you might get caught and I don't want your father to be angry again.
Clara: But Mom, you're way more angry than him, nevermind, love you Mom and Dad, we're off to school 😁😁
Dream: Bye kids!!
*At the Academy*
Clara: Hi, I'm Clara! I'm new here!!
Random student: Wait.... isn't she the third daughter of the Guardian of Positivity?!
Another student: You bet and I guess that's her younger brother Prince David.
James: *in mind* Oh boy, here we go 🙁
Almost every boy to Clara: Princess Clara, please date me!!!
Clara: *speechless and confused*
David: Uhh, bro, where's Elys and others?
*then a blonde haired boy with blue eyes comes*
The boy: Hey! Give them some space!!
*the students didn't listen*
*the boy grabs Clara and David and runs to an empty classroom where no one can find them*
The boy: phew, at least they're gone. The name's Ryan Stevenson. It must be annoying to be surrounded by them.*in mind* This girl seems nice and wait...am I falling in love at first sight?!
Clara: Yeah....*in mind* he's kinda hot and kind tho.
David: *reads both of their minds* *in mind* I wouldn't mind her but we're lucky that James isn't here.
Ryan: You're my new classmate I guess because the teacher said so, we're gonna be late.
David: Ok, I'll just ask a random teacher.
*after a few moments when the class was started with the teacher introducing Clara*
Teacher: Students, this is Princess Clara, the third daughter of the Guardian of Positivity, Dream.
Random spoiled student: pfft, as if she thinks she is a princess than what I am.
Teacher: Gloria!! Enough of your self-boasting!! Apologies, your majesty.
Clara: It's okay ma'am, I'll get used to this life and I hope I can get new friends.
Ryan: *in mind* wow, this Princess is really humble as she doesn't mind sitting with common people like us.
*class lessons starts*
*after class when it's break*
Clara: Man it's so boring!!! I hardly slept when the lecture began!!
A kind girl: Yes, well my name's Eva Woods.
Clara: Nice to meet you, Eva.
*Gloria and her gang of spolied kids appear*
Gloria: Well well well, look who's here. The fake 'Princess' along with the weakling.
Clara: HEY!! WATCH YOUR TONE BRAT!! YOU CAN'T INSULT MY NEW FRIEND LIKE THAT!!
Gloria: Oh really? What you're gonna do? Well let's make a deal, meet me at the park after school.
Clara: Deal.
*the gang walks away*
Sofia: Yo!! You must be the new student!! I'm Sofia!
Clara: Hi Sofia! I'm Clara! Btw, who wants to join me now 'cause I brought an entire box of pizza!!
Eva, Ryan and Sofia: HELL YEAH!! LET'S DIVE IN!!
Gloria: *seeing her at a distance* I JUST WANT THAT PIZZA!! HOW CAN SHE BE MORE RICHER THAN ME?!
*after school*
Clara: So, I made friends with two girls named Sofia and Eva and a boy named Ryan.
Hermione: Wow, you made a lot of friends on the first day! Wondering how many friends you would get tomorr-
Gloria: HEY CLARA THE STINKY APE! I BET YOU'RE SCARED TO FIGHT HAHA LOL!
*her gang laughs and teases Clara*
James: *whispers* I think it's time to show them who's boss since we're far away from school.
Clara: Fine brat, you asked for it. *uses yellow magic on Gloria*
Gloria: HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING YO MY SOU-
*Clara levitates her and smacks her down to the ground hard in such a way blood did not fall but she can only feel tremendous pain*
One of the spoiled girls: What have done you freak?!
Clara: *summons her yellow fire like powers and threatens to use it on her* this is my final warning, get out.
*the gang flees in fear*
*at home they narrated everything and Sun and Dream were proud of their daughter*
*evening*
Clara: *alone in her room* *sighs*
*mutters* that boy was cute 🥺
James: *in mind* if my sister Clara has a crush on someone, that boy better be nice to her or I'll yeet him.
*meanwhile*
James: And that's how Clara's day went.
Star: uhhhhhh......
Alexander: That's kinda good not gonna lie. Oh someone's trying to flirt with Hermione and she seems uncomfortable.
James: WHO'S WHAT?! *overprotective brother mode on* *teleports away*
Twyla: Well it's kinda nice that she made friends with my original.
Elys: Yeah, welp see you all tomorrow at school.
Alexander: Same, bye!!

okay i’m going to be annoying and send you asks for two thingies at once sorry. 3 and 7 for the violence ask game + W and D for the fandom ask game <3
VIOLENCE 3 - screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr: this was a person on tumblr complaining about the 2022 matilda the musical film adaptation, in comparison to the 1996 american film:
the songs were mostly inner monologue that lasted minutes at a time. most of the songs didn't even move the plot. what these songs did in five minutes, the narration in the mara wilson movie did in 1 minute [...] basically the older matilda movie had more "show don't tell"
i am removing fandom's use of the phrase "show don't tell" until someone explains to this person how a musical works.
VIOLENCE 7 - what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because of how the fandom acts about them: rose tyler easy. thoroughly mid-tier character but everyone worships the ground she walks on i honestly don't get it
w - 5 favourite characters from 5 different fandoms: oooh im assuming this means one each lets see:
dr who: the 12th dr who
ultimate comics (current guilty pleasure comics hyperfixation eating my brain. and eating my revision time.): kitty fucking pryde my beloved. u did not deserve to be treated like that by peter (just reached the arc where he has a big romantic getting back together with mj while still dating kitty. idk how this actually plays out yet.)
thor et al comics: leah of hel. in particular the secret wars version who shows up in Battleworld: Siege and Angela Queen of Hell
matilda: matilda
rolling with difficulty: out of the PCs VR-LA obviously (autism) out of the NPCs i'd say probably ione or sofia's cool edgy backup character whos name i have forgotten.
d - what was the first thing you ever contributed to a fandom: i used to edit my friends discord messages into textpost memes with dr who characters and i'd do it in MS Paint because it made the screenshots go crunchy and that amused me. still does tbh even tho i dont make them any more. idk if that was the first thing i ever 'contributed to a fandom' but it's one of the first things that got notes

"The Powerpuff Girls (2013 reboot)" review/rant
(NOTE: Don't read this post if you like the reboot of "The Powerpuff Girls" and find it a guilty pleasure. Even if you just like Steven Universe alone. I can try to respect your opinions. You're still welcome to read the post if you're just curious about the other half of this post.)
On this day, five years after original series ended with "The Powerpuff Girls Rule!", "The Powerpuff Girls" got a reboot for better or worse. Even though we ended up getting "Dance Pantsed" in 2014, this reboot completely changed "The Powerpuff Girls" and not in a good way. The reboot was developed by Rebecca Sugar, who previously worked on "Adventure Time". It's surprising how a show with mixed results wound up becoming successful. Some people like it because of its LGBT representation and other themes "The Powerpuff Girls" never did before. Then there's those like me who hate the show for those reasons. I'm not saying LGBT representation is a bad idea, but to me, it just doesn't work with anything (that is, except "The Loud House", which is understandable, since that show wasn't aimed for children.).
BAD THINGS
Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup were redesigned to look like attractive adult women. They now have fingers and toes, which the original versions of the characters never had. And if that wasn't enough, the original voice talents were replaced with Estelle as Blossom, Michaela Dietz as Bubbles, and Deedee Mango-Hall as Buttercup. To me, they're supposed to be kids made from a lab accident Professor Utonium caused, unless maybe there's a better explanation in terms of how the Powerpuff Girls aged up, but I digress.
This reboot also introduces a new character, Steven Universe, voiced by Zach Callison (who also voiced Prince James in the Playhouse Disney show, "Sofia the First".). This character as a ruby in his bellybutton and he seems to have super powers like fusing with the main characters or even other extraterrestrial beings. Now, adding a new character into the franchise isn't a bad idea, as long as there's a reasonable explanation. To me, it's annoying to see Steven get more of the spotlight than The Powerpuff Girls. I thought he was just a terrible addition to the franchise.
This show also has characters singing a lot, which has actually happened before in the original series (ex. The infamous special, "See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey"), but this was scarce. I'm not even planning to listen to those songs from the reboot at all, but I suppose you could be the judge on if they're good or bad. The original opening and closing themes from the original show don't show up either. All I can say is that I'm okay with the idea of having the characters singing something, but it shouldn't be frequently. This is a superhero cartoon, not a musical cartoon (even though Disney Channel's "Hamster & Gretel" did a better job combining those two genres years later).
You don't even get to hear the narrator in this show, nor is there any narration, which was one of the reasons why the original show is far more superior.
There's also the theatrical film, "Steven Universe: A Powerpuff Girls Movie", but that's an entirely different review for another day.
GOOD THINGS
There's not really a lot of good things that came from this reboot that I could think of, but I guess one positive is that when "The Powerpuff Girls (2013)" made its way into "Lego Dimensions", they decided to combine elements from both "Powerpuff Girls" shows. And while Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup sound a bit off, they at least went back to their original designs from the original show (despite Amanda Leighton voicing Blossom, Kristen Li voicing Bubbles, and Natalie Palamides voicing Buttercup). I guess another good thing is that at least Steven Universe is nowhere to be seen in "Lego Dimensions", depending on whether you like him or not.
CONCLUSION
Rebooting "The Powerpuff Girls" isn't a bad idea on paper, but its execution was a mixed bag. If you think it's okay in its own right, I can respect your opinion. Same thing for those who only watch the reboot for Steven Universe. To me, there's so much more they could've done to make this reboot better. What they should've done is maybe have old "Powerpuff Girls" characters return, as well as their original voice talents. I also would've preferred if this show never had LGBT representation, unless the original creator, Craig McCracken would allow it. Whatever you do, don't waste your time with this show. Watch the original show instead, and maybe "Dance Pantsed", which is fortunately a stand-alone special that has no ties with the reboot at all. If I had to rate this between “Good”, “Bad”, or “Mediocre”, I would have to give this show “Bad”.
Do you too hate "The Powerpuff Girls (2013)", even to this day? Or do you have a different opinion on it? Tell me your thoughts in the comments section and remember to click the heart or reblog this post.

“AN IMPERIAL MURDER STORY”  A sims4royalsandimperials Halloween Special
Part 1 - Maria-Emiliya of Ula and Crown Prince Haudran-Gustaf
(SUBPART 2, A DIRE WARNING)
18 September 1815, Harmonipalatset
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maria-Emiliya: (narrating) Their Majesties, Emperor Eric II and Empress Silvia warmly welcomed me into the country and at Harmonipalatset. I quickly befriended their daughter, Princess Cassandra, who had a reputation for being a kindly lady, and helped anyone when she could.
Tumblr media
Silvia: This is your chamber, where Your Royal Highness will retire to every night until you and Haudran-Gustaf are wed. Maria-Emiliya: Thank you, Your Majesty. Silvia: You may call me Mother, darling. How shall we address you? Maria-Emiliya: “Emiliya” is fine. Silvia: Very good. The rest of your belongings will arrive in three days from Sniv Palace.
Tumblr media
Cassandra: Mother and I wished to make you comfortable whilst you get acquainted with this place. We hope you will be okay sleeping in here. Maria-Emiliya: Of course, Your Imperial Highness. Thank you for keeping me in mind.
Tumblr media
Silvia: I am happy to see the pair of you getting along. Cassandra, Emiliya, why don’t you get to know each other while I see how Haudran-Gustaf is adjusting to this? Cassandra: Of course, Mother. *Silvia leaves the room*
Tumblr media
Maria-Emiliya: I am happy to have finally made your acquaintance, Your Imperial Highness. In our correspondence, you’ve written that you were ecstatic to have another sister in the home. Is Haudran-Gustaf a good brother? *Maria-Emiliya and Cassandra share a laugh*
Tumblr media
Cassandra: Please, call me Cassandra. And, he is, but he is vexing as well. Whatever zany antics he is up to, he tries to get me involved. In fact, he was very playful and pulled practical jokes as a child. *Cassandra and Maria-Emiliya share another laugh* Maria-Emiliya: Perhaps I should steer clear when he gets in one of his playful moods, then.
*Cassandra’s expression changes from one of elation to one of hesitance and uneasiness*
Tumblr media
Maria-Emiliya: What’s troubling you, Cassandra? Cassandra: You should be careful when he is around you.
Tumblr media
Cassandra: He has... a violent temper. His last betrothed broke off the engagement when he lost his temper and tried to throw things at her. I’ve seen them myself growing up, and truly, I am afraid of him when he gets this way.  Maria-Emiliya: Dear watcher. Cassandra: I suspect this is because of his affections for Fröken Madeleine Asperssen. She is the snobbish and ill-tempered daughter of a wealthy inventor. When his first engagement was announced, we found that Madeleine was involved in breaking them up. She will go any lengths to keep my brother wrapped around her disgusting finger. I wish you to be careful around him. If you would like, I will stay nearby should he become violent towards you.
Tumblr media
Maria-Emiliya: Since that is so, I do wish you to stay nearby. Thank you, Cassandra.
Meanwhile
(TW: Haudran-Gustaf’s ignorant banter about Maria-Emiliya)
Tumblr media
Haudran-Gustaf: Father, I do not wish to marry the Princess of Ula. You saw how I was with Countess Sofia of Zarguietta.
Tumblr media
Eric II: ‘Twas because of that Asperssen woman. Gustaf, she’s poisoned your mind. I warned you that you were never to see her again after the Countess broke off the engagement.
Tumblr media
Haudran-Gustaf: She has not bewitched me, Father. I am in love with her. What does that Ulanian Princess have that Madeleine does not?
Tumblr media
Eric II: For starters, a calm temperament. Her reputation as a kind princess has earned her immense respect here in Newcrest.  Haudran-Gustaf: She is but an Ulanian, Father. The Ulanians come from savages who conquered occupied lands bordering Lunaria.
Tumblr media
Eric II: Do not exhibit ignorance here, Gustaf! Maria-Emiliya has been nothing but kind to you since your correspondence, and yet you have not bothered to respond to her at all! What excuses have you had not to do so?
Tumblr media
Haudran-Gustaf: Because I want to marry Madeleine, Father. Not Maria-Emiliya. Eric II: Enough of this!! That Asperssen woman shall not be on your mind whenceforth your engagement is announced! And I explicitly forbid you from seeing her again!
Tumblr media
Haudran-Gustaf: And if I should refuse this forbiddal? Eric II: Then I will see to it that Cassandra be made my heir.
Tumblr media
Eric II: Do I make myself clear?!
Tumblr media
Haudran-Gustaf: Very well, Father.

Chapter 11
Overall, keeping [the Mac/Zade/Jackson love triangle] to ourselves kept our work environment drama free.
God knows that there's probably enough drama at the theater without that mess. I'm sure Sofia brings an entire circus's worth of drama every single day.
If I had written on a piece of paper all the things I wanted in a guy, well, [Jackson] would have fit it to a T, except my ideal guy would also have powers. I had learned from my mom that it’s easier when you are both magick— it’s actually deeply frowned upon for someone like me to end up with a mortal.
I literally forgot that Zade is supposed to be a witch. So I'm sitting here thinking “Superman”, but she's thinking “Harry Potter”.
I had learned from my mom that it’s easier when you are both magick— it’s actually deeply frowned upon for someone like me to end up with a mortal. It’s practically a law for us to not be with our own kind. My mom instantly became an outcast for having me with a mortal.
I'll call this “this could have been interesting if expanded upon, but I know that it'll probably never be brought up again”, part 710823098109823908123.
Mac, was also a mortal and we clearly had our differences—but so much passion had sparked between us.
Passion. Spark. Um... bitch where?
[The random stranger at the bar] was obviously hitting on me, even though I was not even remotely interested— not just because I already had one too many prospects, but also because I am not the “get picked up at a bar” kind of girl. He was funny and it was kind of fun to have him fawning all over me and, honestly, it was better talking to him than standing by myself awkwardly.
She says this, but at the same time, the narration has shown NOTHING but guys tripping over themselves about Zade.
Oh, but this is at a BAR, so I guess that it's DIFFERENT?! (Despite the fact that she also works with this guy.)
“Oh! Sorry, I must have zoned out. What was it?”
“What’s your favorite clothing store?”
Really? We're really going to go from “Mac having a pissing contest because he wants to be with Zade” to “Shallow females” with barely taking a breath?
Making excuses of an oncoming migraine, I excused myself from the girls’ conversation so that I could leave before I started banging my head against the table.
Chapter 11 summary: The ENTIRE first two pages of this chapter are nothing but stream of consciousness writing as Zade basically screams at the concept of dating Jackson and then switches over to screaming at the concept of dating Mac.
Zade goes to the bar to hang out with everybody after work. Jackson gets called away on band business, so Zade ends up just floating around and talking with a bunch of people. She's talking with somebody from work that she doesn't know well when Mac comes over and asks her to do shots with them. Zade says that she'll go, but the guy, Justin, gets belligerent over her leaving. Not being forced to leave: Zade awkwardly trying to tell Justin “thanks but no thanks” and then leaving. Justin gets into Mac's face, and a bunch of the other guys show up. A fight breaks out, but ends almost as soon as it begins.
As the Justin incident breaks up, Zade lingers near where Tad and Mac are, and hears Tad chewing Mac out about his shitty, possessive behavior towards Zade. Jackson comes over and asks Mac if he's okay following that. But he also chews Mac out, and says that “Zade can take care of herself”.
The book then takes a hard left away from that, and Zade is dragged into a conversation with nameless, faceless “girls” who will not shut up about clothing brands.

Books Read December 2020
Angel by Elizabeth Taylor (no, not that Elizabeth Taylor)
I saw the movie version of this starring Romola Garai way back when it came out and always meant to read the novel. In fact I’m pretty sure that I’ve tried to read it on at least two other occasions and never got past the first page. I’m not sure why, it’s an utterly delightful, charming and sad read. Set in Edwardian England it focuses on Angel, a pig headed working class girl with crazy vivid fantasies who decides to become a famous romance author and achieves immediate success though never critical acclaim. Her life is pretty tragic, made all the more so because despite her arrogance there is a frailty pushing her ambition and pigheadness that only two people in her life ever understand. Taylor writes with such compassion for a kind of nasty character. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be reading more Taylor in the future.
Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser
I don’t read a lot of non-fiction, especially biographies because while I never hate them they always just seem like really detailed Wikipedia articles. Fraser does a really admirable job of making Marie Antoinette into a tragic figure and delves into a lot of her later life which was incredibly tragic, humiliating and prolonged (for example it took years from her leaving Versailles to her husband being assassinated, to her being imprisoned and torn away from her living children. A very, compassionate look at a woman whose name has become a punchline for excess. Do recommend if you’re into that sort of thing. Also this was the biography that Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette was based on though she only covered about 250 pages of material when the book is nearly twice that.
Love in a Cold Climate by Nancy Mitford
I didn’t really love The Pursuit of Love but I decided to pick up the side-quel because it was enjoyable enough and I was already in that world. LiaCC takes place at the same time as Pursuit and is narrated by the same narrator but aside from some cameos from LiaCC focuses almost entirely on a different cast of characters, Polly Montdore and her rich family. The sexual politics of this book are weird in a way I simply cannot describe and is eye-brow raising in 2020. I can’t imagine what people in the ‘40s thought.  A very weird little book but a decent (and short) read. There’s a third book to the series but my library doesn’t have it so I guess I’ll never end up reading it.
The Dud Avocado by Elaine Dundy
I only heard of Dundy because she was the sister of director Shirley Clarke (who I ADORE). TDA was hugely popular as a comedic novel when it was released and then fell into obscurity though over the past decade and a bit two separate smaller imprints have brought it back in print.
Loosely based on Dundy’s life it tells the story of a 21 year old American rich girl who heads to Paris in the ‘50s to have fun, wreck her life and act a bit. It’s a silly and sweet read and I enjoyed it a lot.
Augustus by John Williams
This is the final “major” one of Williams’ books I had left to read. As usual I loved it. It’s an epistolary novel which takes a little getting used to as that’s far from my favourite stylistic medium but Williams is, as ever, a spectacular writer wrestling with legacy and what it means to have a successful life. Here he focuses on the life of Octavius Caesar, Julius Caesar’s grand-nephew and legal heir. Ceasar and Mark Antony get all the historical attention because they had messy ends and were terrible leaders in their own way so it’s interesting that Williams focuses on Augustus whose reign over Rome brought about years of peace and was followed by a slew of unsuccessful leaders. The book delves into his maneuverings to power, the personal cost of living a powerful and public life and his own ambivalence towards his so called greatness (as imagined by Williams).
The Right Intention by Andrés Barba
This could have been called “Variations on obsession” and been a more apt title. This wasn’t a novel but a series of four novellas all with kind of unpleasant, controlling characters whose singular focus ends up hurting those around them. I liked it okay.
And that’s a wrap for 2020! This was one of the worst years for books for me in terms of quality and quantity. At least it ended on a high note!

musical ep anon here - honestly, i love it. the energy that callie has when storming through the hospital singing “the story” and looking hot and getting herself to wake up is goals. owen singing makes me feel awk tho lol. I love that addison comes back for callie. I also love the az bits, there is actually quite a bit of focus on her. i really do feel like callie wakes up not only for sofia but also for az and i love that so much. when callie is singing “the story” theres the line “and these st
(2) stories don’t mean anything if you’ve got no one to tell them to” and the camera cuts to az at callies side and I die everytime. Then callie wakes up and says yes and I die again, even tho trauma proposals are overdone on grays lol. and agree, mark gave a lot worse than az. there were times in S7 where she said uncalled for things from insecurity, but this wasnt it, mark was being a tool. the one thing that makes me sad is more of a fandom thing than an ep thing – I feel like this ep is the
(3)culmination of the az/mark tension and I think since so many ppl don’t rewatch it due to “cringe factor”, mark comes off a lot better in their memory than he actually does. Not to say that he isn’t shitty at other times too, but I think this is the one time the show’s narration cuts az some slack in that arc. (sorry this was so long haha) - musical ep anon
"the story" is iconic and nothing will change my mind on that lol. i know people think parts of it are cringey, but overall, it's pretty well done?
i totally agree that callie also woke up for arizona. like i said before, that scene when arizona is begging her to live gets me every time. it's such a rare moment of open vulnerability from arizona.
i personally think that mark has really benefited from hindsight. a lot of his kinda (really) scummy behaviours seem to have been forgotten/forgiven. bc he's hot, he was a cute dad and then he died.
mark spent the entire baby arc storming around yelling "i'm the father" and it wasn't helped by callie always sort of choosing mark for lack of a better term. and the thing is, yes, he was the father and no one ever contested that and legally he held all the power, arizona was only there so long as callie wanted her there.
most people get really fixated on arizona calling him a sperm donor (which sure, isn't great, but also maybe was her own internal process to be more okay with the situation she found herself in) and mark calling her nothing. but i think the most damning part of that argument is when mark says something to the effect of "we can just screw again and make another baby" which is insane. and intensely shitty behaviour from mark. in what world is that okay?
i don't want to say mark is a bad person or anything, but there had to have been some kernel of truth in what he said, otherwise he wouldn't have said it. and i think people really overlook a lot of this, like you said, because they tend to skip over this episode and suddenly mark and arizona are fine.
which i seriously think that mark believed they were fine but arizona wasn't super fine with it, but rather thought that her safest option was to make peace with mark bc he held all the power.
and don't worry about the length lol i am not known for being laconic

A girl in a spider costume zooms through the sky on webs strung from her hand, whooping. A narration cuts in of a sassy teenage girl.
“All right, let’s get this part over with. I’m not the first, and I’m certainly not the last. Cut to backstory!” she said, then snapped. The scene changed.
The girl, outside her costume, is eating a bagel. She has blond-brown hair in a messy bob, blue-green eyes, and pale skin. She’s wearing simple clothes. “My name is Skye King. In my universe, I’m one of two spider-people, though I’m the only Spider-Girl. Spider-Man is in New York. My business is in Seattle. One day, during summer break, I was bitten by a radioactive spider after my 15th birthday. You get the jist, right? Then I had spider powers, yadda yadda yadda. We’ve all heard it before. Well, the thing is, not really. That spider was from another universe (at least I'm 99% sure).” While she said all that, in the cutscene, a spider bit her on the hand and she threw it outside. “I could tell something was wrong, so I decided to cancel my hangout with my friend the next day, telling her I was sick. I couldn’t have been more wrong, but it was a good call. I absolutely trashed my room that day.” It showed Skye in her room, sticking to the bedcovers and the ceiling and her books. “Needless to say, my parents were kinda, okay super mad. Oh well, small price for a little superpower! I discovered during the next few days that I could create portals with my webs, and the first one led to the universe with the graffiti Spider-Man, Miles Morales.” Another scene showed her fistbumping with Miles, masks down on their spider costumes as they sat on top of a building. “There, I officially got my suit from Aunt May with some help. I wanted a little piece of everyone I met, so I asked Miles to decorate my costume a bit. He got the left arm, and I gotta say, it looked pretty sweet! Over the next week, I visited other universes and added to my suit a little at a time. You name them from Miles’s movie, I’ve probably visited them. Peni Parker (got a robotics upgrade from her), Noir (the guns were cool, but he also got a bit of space on my mask), Gwen (I stole her hoodie idea and went to gymnastics), Peter B. (not much, his suit’s the same as the original), and even Peter Porker (got a cartoon hammer, I love Looney Tunes)! They were all really cool, but my story isn’t about meeting them. Way too cliche, and probably done before, too. This little mini story takes place in the universe where that spider came from. So why don’t we finally get started, now that you know who I am?” The scene returned to Spider-Girl swinging from the Seattle Space Needle. She winked at the camera, and the screen turned black.
Skye yawned, sitting up in bed as her alarm went off. “Hey Google, alarm off,” she said tiredly, getting out of bed and getting dressed off-camera. She ate her breakfast, said hi to her family, packed up her backpack (not forgetting her Spider Suit), and jogged out the door to her bus stop. She napped on the bus until it arrived at school, where she was woken up by her Spidey senses. She got off the bus. “Hello again, Edison High,” she sighed, walking into the cafeteria and sitting down at a table full of older students. The narration starts. “This is my average, everyday high school, Edison High. These are my art club friends, Olivia, Jack, Darth, and.. well, they’re important to me, but maybe not to you. My other friends are Sofia, Haylie, Mitchell, AJ, and Micheal. At my high school, nobody apart from Sofia, AJ, and Haylie know I’m Spider-Girl, even though she’s the main topic of gossip. School’s boring, so I’ma skip it.”
The scene of a high school day is fast forwarded until the very end, where she goes to the bathroom. “I’ve long since made a secret exit, and most girls don’t check the bathroom mirror, so I get dressed in my onesie there. It’s really not that hard, and I have a drone get my backpack home. That does mean I have to do my homework in class, but I’m pretty smart, so I can do it most of the time.” Skye, in her Spider-Girl suit, exits the stall and opens the mirror like a door, walking inside. She drops her backpack into a carrier drone, then opens a secret door from the inside and webs to the top of the school. “All in all, a pretty normal day. No crime at the moment, so I decided to visit another universe again. I mean, why not?” She spun her web in a circle, creating a portal, which she swung into. “I wanted a little something to add to my outfit. But that day? Fate didn’t like me one bit.” She looked around at the other portals, which had markings on them, the logos of the different Spider-Men she’d met. One of the portals was unmarked, and that was the one she swung into. As soon as she did, she attempted to make another web, but failed. “Aw, what? Talk about bad timing..” the Skye in the scene said, before yelling and slamming into the ground. “I think I’ll stop the narration now, so you can focus on the story.”
The screen was black, but then Skye opened her eyes. In front of her was a rainbow Spider-Man, upside down in front of her. She yelped and scrambled backwards in surprise, bonking her head. “Ow..” she muttered, rubbing her head. She flicked her wrist, trying to spin her web. Nothing happened. “Damnit!” she cursed.
“You okay?” the rainbow Spider-Man asked, letting go of his web (which was unsurprisingly rainbow as well) and landing on the ground. “You hit your head pretty hard.”
Skye grinned under the mask. “I’ve had worse. I mean, when you’re Spider-Girl, you gotta be able to take a few hits, right?” She got up, standing in front of the walking rainbow and looking him up and down. “I like the sugar glider wings,” she complimented. “I bet those come in handy a lot, huh?”
He smiled too (though only shown with the eyes of his mask). “Yeah, they do. So, how’d you get here anyway? Super collider?”
She shook her head. “Nah, got here on my own. Part of my powers include going to other universes, weirdly enough. My webs aren’t working, though,” she flicked her hand for emphasis, “so I’m stuck here for the moment. I don’t think that’ll last for more than a couple days, so no need to worry.”
He sighed in relief. “Good, I’m already taking care of four Spider-Children, so I don’t need more.. why are you looking at me like that?” he asked, after seeing her starstruck expression.
“There’s more!?” she said, sort of high-pitched. She covered her mouth. “Oops. Um, basically, when I run into another Spider-Person, I want a way of remembering, so I add to my outfit.. I was looking to upgrade mine for a while, so this is perfect!”
He laughed. “Alright, I’ll take you to them. Be warned though, they’re all pretty extra in their own way.” The scene cut to him swinging her up to an apartment, setting her down.
“Thanks for that,” she said, embarrassed. “If I had my webs, I wouldn’t need you to do that, though..”
“Nah, it’s fine!” He took off his mask, grinning. “I don’t mind. I’m Thomas.” He held out his hand.
“Skye,” she said, taking it after pulling her own mask off. “Now if you don’t mind, you got some thread and needles?” He pointed her to a room. “Sweet!” she said, running in. “I’ll be back!”
After a few minutes, she came out with the same sugar glider extensions he had, but they were the bi flag instead of the gay flag. “Ta-daa!”
“Nice,” he nodded in approval. “There’s some spare clothes in the closet if you don’t mind sweats and t-shirts.”
She grinned. “That’s what I usually wear anyway!”
The screen showed a Spongebob ‘one hour later’ cutscene, then showed Thomas and Skye watching a movie. She was wearing a blue t-shirt and purple sweats. There was a knock on the door. “Come in, guys,” Thomas said, not taking his eyes off the movie. Skye, however, looked towards the door to see four different Spider-Men come through. One wore a royal outfit with flowers, hair uncovered, one wore a pink outfit with hearts and a baseball cap, one wore an outfit similar to Gwen’s with a V, and the last one wore a blue outfit that had a tie design on it and four robotic spider legs on his back. Her eyes widened.
“Okay, now I definitely need to update my outfit again!” She grinned, dashing into the room she’d been in before where her suit was. The others looked at her.
“Uh… who was that?” the one in the royal outfit asked, looking perplexed.
“You’ll see,” Thomas answered.
After a half hour, while everyone was on the couch with masks down, she came out with the suit on and mask up. The hoodie was up, and on top of it, there was a gray V like the Gwen lookalike’s mask. One of the legs had pink hearts and red flowers, and the other had the same design as the tie design but only up to below the knee. She was grinning, until she realized something. “Oh, right, I never introduced myself. I’m Skye, Spider-Girl!” she said, pulling her mask down and bowing.
“Virgil,” said the Gwen lookalike.
“Roman!” introduced the royal one.
“Hi, I’m Patton!” grinned the pink one.
“Salutations, my name is Logan,” said the one in the tie.
“Nice to meet all of you!” said Skye, grinning and sitting down with the rest.
A timelapse showed the day going by, nothing super interesting. The timelapse stopped at the next day during lunch, because that’s where the action is. Besides, this is supposed to be a short story, so I won’t bore you too much.
Everyone was having pizza. “Mm, they do not make pizza like this in Seattle, let me tell you,” Skye said after finishing her first slice. “I almost wish they did, but then I’d never cook for myself!”
Suddenly, everyone froze, Spidey senses going off. “Oh no, why in the middle of lunch?” Roman groaned, setting down his slice and going into one of the stalls in the corner. Everyone but Skye followed him, her going into the suit touch up room. One by one, they all emerged in their Spider suits. Thomas and his gang swung out, while Skye took a deep breath and glided after them using the addition she’d just added yesterday, since she still couldn’t use her webs. They arrived in Times Square to see the Scorpion causing trouble with the Tinkerer, again.
“Peter always has to deal with these guys, why don’t they ever quit?” Skye asked, perched next to the others on top of a building.
“Evil never rests?” Logan offered.
“Nah, these guys are just really annoying,” Thomas sighed.
They all jumped down, standing in front of either the Tinkerer or the Scorpion. Virgil, Logan, and Skye were in front of the Tinkerer, while Thomas, Patton, and Roman were in front of the Scorpion. “Time to kick some ass!” Skye said, crawling up a building and launching herself at the Tinkerer. Soon after, Virgil and Logan swung at him in turn, Logan knocking the Tinkerer out of his own vehicle and taking control, which he then used to stun the Tinkerer while Virgil tied him up. Thomas swung and glided onto the Scorpion’s face, blinding him. Patton and Roman tied the Scorpion up, then Thomas kicked the Scorpion over and over in the face, temporarily stunning him. As if it was second nature for her, Skye swung using her webs and tied the Scorpion up some more, knowing her webs were stronger than the others’ by nature. As she landed on the ground, she looked at her hands and smiled. “Looks like I can go home now,” she grinned to the others. “Sorry for overstaying my welcome.”
“Nah, you’re fun to hang around with. Come back anytime,” Thomas said, waving goodbye. She nodded and made a portal, swinging through as it closed behind her. She hung in place in the middle of all the universes, making five webs above the top of the portal she just came in from. The middle one was a rainbow spider, and the other four were a gray V, a red rose, a pink heart, and a blue tie. She grinned and swung through the portal labeled ‘home’, swinging above the city. She was lucky it was Saturday, so she didn’t miss any school. But how would she explain it to her parents? She shook her head to clear her thoughts as she spotted a robbery. Good never sleeps, she thought, webbing one of the criminals with a sigh. The scene faded to black.
“Hey, don't get mad, I told you it’d be short. Cut!”

roight so right now i’m reading a gentleman in moscow by amor towles and?? it took me so long to actually get into this book i kept complaining and complaining and couldn’t get into it at all whatsoever and it kept decomposing in my bag but by god it has really won me over and i really need someone to talk to about it
spoilers below cut
like.... okay spoiler warning for anyone who wants to read the book below but it’s been on my mind since yesterday. it kills me that both nina and mishka who were shown to be central to alexander’s life and development in the first half die so disgracefully. they aren’t even spared the confirmation of death. we know that the narrator is humorous and unreliable but these characters who carried so much of sasha’s development are suddenly vanished in respectively eerie ways. nina disappears in search of her husband into the vastness of the east, and mishka is sent to siberia for his words, and we presumably never hear from these two important characters ever again. i actually had to put the book down before 1943 in those last few pages because it just hit me like a train. to me depriving them the actuality and absolution of a death scene is way more heartwrenching than any death scene the author could have written.
its also something about the introduction of sofia and the bigger roles that anna, andrey, emile, marina and osip seem to have filled. with nina and mishka being whisked off into the void of likely death i have a sinking feeling that some of those characters may be next. to be honest i struggle to fully understand and like alexander as a character but i also think that’s the point and i’m starting to see that subtle development that we all know and love.
anna as a character.......... one day she’ll get her own post because whew god this is the only hot female love interest character written with actual interesting aspects beyond huge tits hot face ive seen by a male author and she is so compelling and the fact that she gets her own fleshed out role in the story is gorgeous
i think?? i’ll probably understand a lot more of the aspects of the book later on in my life. i feel like right now i’m too young to truly appreciate it, because i see the nuance in the writing and the quirks and beauties in alexander’s character but there’s something about him i just find so unlikeable, and that’s what’s made me so resistant to finishing the book. it’s probably one of the better ‘ussr bad’ novels written mostly because it also discusses the corruption and dismissive attitudes of western europeans and americans towards the ussr.
anyways please read this book and discuss it with me and god oh god i gotta say i cried during the bees on the roof scene iykyk i still have ~250 pages to go but i’m too invested to quit

Narrated by Shonice Armstrong
After class, I met Scarlett for some window shopping at the new baby boutique. Afterwards, we had dinner in the adjoining cafe. We discussed ideas for her baby shower as we ate. When our conversation came to a lull, I broached a subject that I had been wondering about for weeks. “Scarlett, have you and Andreas decided on Watcher-parents for the baby yet?”
Scarlett’s eyes opened wide like the proverbial deer caught in the headlights. She paused eating, her fork frozen halfway to her mouth. She remained quiet for several seconds, then put her fork down and dabbed her mouth with her napkin. “Um, yes, we have actually. We nearly had a knock-down, drag-out fight over it.” She kept her eyes on her plate.
I leaned towards her eagerly. “Well?”
She picked her fork up again and poked at her prawns mindlessly.  “Well, of course, I suggested you and Jin-Sang.”
“Of course!”
“But Andreas wanted Tessa and Ravi.”
“Oh.” I tried to hide my disappointment. “Well, I get that. He knows them better than he knows me and Jin-Sang.”
“Yeah, exactly!” She finally looked up at me, nodding enthusiastically. Too enthusiastically. Scarlett was a terrible liar. She was worse than Jonathan.
I sighed. “Okay, that clearly wasn’t the reason. Spill it, sister.”
Scarlett squirmed in her chair. “Andreas wanted Tessa and Ravi because he felt they were a stable couple.”
I tensed up. “And Jin-Sang and I aren’t stable?”
“Come on, Shonice. Everyone knows about the thing with Jin-Sang and Ashanti.”
“Give me a break, Scar. It’s not like it was a big affair. All they did was kiss, which she initiated, not him. We’re past that and closer than we have ever been.”
“I know, honey, but you have to admit the Mark thing dragged out too.”
“Scarlett!” I looked around frantically. I had noticed Mark come into the cafe earlier. He had been dressed in his police uniform. A tall, muscular, blond guy also in a police uniform had been with him. I presumed that was his partner, and that they were on their dinner break.
I continued to scan the room until I located him and his partner at the table right behind us. I didn’t want him overhearing our conversation, so I leaned in closer to Scarlett and whispered, “Mark is so over and done with.”
Scarlett looked at me skeptically and whispered back, “If he’s so over and done with, why are you whispering?”
I sat up straight in my chair. Scarlett sat up too and arched a blond eyebrow at me in a challenge. So, I screamed at the top of my lungs, “MARK IS SO OVER AND DONE WITH!”
At my outburst, Mark’s and his partner’s heads shot up in our direction. Mark leaned back in his chair and smirked at me. “The feeling is mutual, sweetheart!” Mark said something to his partner while gesturing towards me. His partner looked at me again, and I could see him mouth a big “Oh!” in recognition.
I wanted to die. Thankfully, a crackling voice came over their walkie-talkies, so Mark and his buddy threw some cash down on their table and headed for the door. My eyes met Mark’s as he passed our table. He looked poised to say something to me but thought better of it. Instead, he just sighed and shook his head. His partner nudged him to keep moving towards the door.
I caught a twinkle in Scarlett’s dark blue eyes as she watched them leave. She covered her mouth with her hand to keep from laughing. As soon as they exited the cafe, I asked her, “Are you satisfied?”
“Immensely.” Then, she started laughing hysterically. I glared at her, but could only hold it for a second before I started giggling too.
When we recovered, Scarlett grabbed my hand. “I’m sorry, honey. I know you were looking forward to being the Watcher-mother, but Andreas won’t budge. He says there always seems to be a third party popping up in your relationship, and he figures that one of these days someone is going to break you up.”
“I see.” My voice was ice, and I pulled my hand away. I didn’t point out that Scarlett herself had been a third party in Andreas’s relationship with Sofia. If that wasn’t the pot calling the kettle black!
“I don’t feel that way, honey,” Scarlett said quickly.  “I lived with you and Jin-Sang in Courtyard for nearly two years. I know you’re crazy about each other. But I couldn’t come up with any cons against Tessa and Ravi to counter Andreas. They’ve been together practically since the first day of freshman year, and a farm could be a wonderful place to raise a child.”
“I get it, Scar. Tessa and Ravi are a great choice.” I wrapped my arms around myself, I could feel tears stinging the back of my eyes, but the last thing I wanted was to start bawling in public.
I wasn’t fooling Scarlett, though. “Honey, don’t let this upset you. Jin-Sang and Jonathan are so close that I’m sure Jonathan and Jerilene will ask you two to be Watcher-parents for their kids.”
“Maybe.”
“Don’t take what Andreas said to heart. I’m sure you and Jin-Sang are fine.”
“Yeah, fine,” I echoed hollowly. “Listen, I’ve got some reading I need to do before class tomorrow, so I should get going soon.”
“Of course, honey.”  I could tell from her demeanor, though, that she wasn’t buying my lie either.
***
You can see Mark in the background of the third picture, and Jack really did come to the lot in his uniform too. Tessa was also there, so I thought it was neat that three of my Family sims showed up at a baby store.

Chapter 02
Hi guys! How are you on the other side of the screen? First of all, I'm so sorry for not being able to upload the chapter last week. I fumbled with this semester's final exams and failed. Second, my sincere thanks to Carly Giuliani, whoknows33, Calzonafan123, ChrisM92, NDenner, brady25, Tifenn: tifustiti, perpetualblyss and @loudwithlaughter for all your reviews. Last but not least, my big thanks to my dear friend and beta reader @tiggermay
Arizona was on a high. After Jackson Prescott’s case she’s been on a string of good results, with no children dying on her hands in the last couple of weeks.
Arizona skated all over the hospital (where the nurses allowed - she had tried to skate at NICU only to be tackled by one of them). She and Kai were dancing every day in her apartment. She was even running in the park!
Her life was practically perfect. All that was missing was Nick arriving in Seattle (he promised that he was just tying up his business there, and… you know, having to walk a trail to the nearest town where he would rent a car to get to the airport).
And Calliope.
So, Arizona was basically floating in a pink cloud when Dr. Dixon asked her to consult on Stacy Pollock.
Arizona sighed before walking over to Bailey (who had been telling anyone and everyone who wanted to listen, -or didn’t -, that Arizona Robbins was Seattle Grace's best acquisition in a long time, and no one should touch a child without her permission…. Her new rule to her residents.), to confirm the diagnosis of cor pulmonale.
As soon as Dr. Dixon left, Bailey grabbed her lab coat. “Aren't you going to scrub in this surgery? You... You’re the peds surgeon!”
Arizona smiled in surprise. "Bailey, this is a cardiac case. You and Dr. Dixon can handle it."
Bailey shook her head. “She's just a child. And I…” she trailed off.
Arizona gently put a hand on her friend's shoulder. “Children are tough. And maybe you’ll open this girl's chest and fix something simple. Or maybe she’ll need a transplant and a backpack with a portable pump that will deliver her medicine at the right times so she can have a childhood. Either way, you’ll give her the rest of her life. And I'm telling you that you’ll want to be there for this moment. Because Stacy? She needs you.”
***
Arizona returned to her office. She had been trying to write an article about Jackson Prescott's treatment, but how could she explain that she knew what to do, before ever touching the boy, well… In a way that wouldn’t guarantee her, a one-way trip to the psyche ward, anyway?
She was turning the pages of his exams when she heard knocking on the door. She didn't usually close her office door during the day, so it was open, and Paul Anderson was there looking anxious.
Arizona widened her eyes for a second before she remembered that Wallace was alive. Then she gave her best and most charming smile and stood up. "Hey! How can I help you?"
Paul took a deep breath and walked into the office, closing the door behind him. "Dr. Robbins, correct?"
Arizona nodded and reached out to greet him. The grip was tight, though Paul's hands were shaking. “I’m Paul Anderson. My son, Wallace, is a patient here. Dr. Kenley was his doctor.”
They sat down, and Arizona quickly closed the folders in front of her. "I think I haven't met Wallace yet."
Paul shook his head. “He… He has short bowel syndrome. He had the last surgery with Kenley a few months ago. His eleventh bowel resection.” Paul took a deep breath, and Arizona noticed Kai rising from the couch to stand beside her. “My wife, Bethany, she attends a support group to parents in this situation. And she heard about Jackson Prescott's recovery. So, I want to transfer Wallace's care to you as well as discuss the best course of treatment.”
Arizona took a deep breath. "Do you have his latest exams?"
Paul nodded eagerly, and opened his briefcase, offering her a binder.
Arizona smiled reassuringly and put her hand over Paul's. “I'm going to study Wallace's case. And the possible alternatives we have. And then we can decide our next step, okay?”
Paul took a deep breath. “He's nine years old… And he's done more than twice as many surgeries than Bethany and I combined. They keep saying that he doesn't have much of a chance of living... But, he's my son, Dr. Robbins. He's my boy.” He said brokenly while staring at Arizona. He lifted a hand to rub at his tired eyes and she couldn’t help but feel her heart twist at the anguish and fatigue that she could see in him. She remembered how emotionally draining, worrying for Sofia had been… And God… Sofia. She missed her baby so much.
Arizona nodded sympathetically. "I... Let's make a plan." She said, clearing her throat.
Paul nodded. They exchanged contacts and soon the man said goodbye and left the office. Arizona closed the door and crouched on the floor covering her face.
"I need to save Wallace, Kai."
The angel took an apple. "Do your best. But remember that some things are immutable.”
Arizona nodded, and when she saw Kai eating her apple, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. "How many of these have you eaten?"
Kai laughed hoarsely. "Four? I like the taste. Theoretically, I don't need to eat.” He smiled sympathetically at Arizona. "I think it's cute that you prepare your snacks like you're doing it to Sofia. If you weren't having lunch at the cafeteria, I bet you'd make your lunches in the same way."
Arizona shrugged. "Force of habit."
Kai nodded. "Want some help thinking of something for the Anderson boy? I can help you remember their exams from the other timeline."
Arizona nodded. "Let's get to work then, Kai"
***
A few hours later, Arizona was preparing a file for the Anderson family. She wanted Wallace to have a bowel transplant. Her thoughts were interrupted by frantic knocking on the door.
"Come in," she called.
Miranda Bailey came into her office out of breath, but with a smile on her face. “You're brilliant!” she stated. “I was in surgery with Stacy and Dixon said she would need a transplant. And, and I had to leave. Because I couldn't handle the idea of this little girl slipping through my fingers and I went to visit my son at the daycare. When I saw the backpacks, and I remembered what you said. So, I ran back, and I told the parents what we could do... I would have come before, but Dr. Dixon... Well, she had a moment. But we can put the portable pump on Stacy, and she can have a childhood!”
Arizona's eyes widened. "Dr. Bailey, you talked to Dr. Dixon before talking to the parents, correct?"
Bailey's smile slowly died. “Well… She was breaking the news to her parents! They needed to know!”
Arizona sighed. “And she's chief surgeon on this case. And she deserves our respect. So, I'll be happy to assist on this surgery, but you need to apologize to her.”
Bailey grunted softly but nodded. "But you’re going to scrub in on the surgery, right?"
Arizona laughed softly and nodded. “Great save, Bailey. I’m proud of you."
Bailey's chest filled with pride and she passed the exams to Arizona as they walked to the OR.
***
Arizona smiled encouragingly at Bailey once the surgeon had started. Kai was watching over Dixon's shoulder, a certain fascination in his angelic expressions.
"I'm sorry for my outburst." Bailey started breaking the uncomfortable silence. "I should've spoken to you first."
Dixon nodded, her focus completely on the procedure. “It was inappropriate, but I've come to expect it from pediatric surgeons. Always breaking protocol.” She sighed and shook her head.
Bailey looked surprised at Dixon. “I'm not a pediatric surgeon. I've landed a few peds cases recently, but I'm getting back to general surgery the first chance I get.”
Arizona tilted her head. Bailey would be a great pediatric surgeon. However, Webber had chosen her to follow his footsteps. And she had already tried to have this fight and lost.
“You touch the child whenever you speak with her.” Dixon continued “You explain conditions to the child, not just the parents. You react to the patient as if it was your own child. You break protocol, which is inappropriate. Except in pediatric surgery, where protocols are constantly evolving. You are not a general surgeon. You're a pediatric surgeon.”
Arizona smiled at Bailey. Dixon was right. Bailey would be excellent at peds.
***
Arizona was heading for the locker room so she could change. Some nurses had invited her for a drink after work and she was happy to accept. When she saw Bailey smiling outside Stacy Pollock's room, she stopped beside her to watch the girl showing her backpack full of ornaments to her parents.
"Oh my God," she exclaimed. "Did you use a bedazzler?"
Bailey lifted the machine, a smile on her face. “Circa 1986. As seen on TV.”
Arizona laughed in surprise. “Dixon’s right, you know. You do belong in peds surgery. Although, I think Ri... The chief. The chief has already chosen you to take his place.”
Bailey shook her head. “My own baby almost died last year. The doctors in this hospital, my friends, all worked to save his life. And I stood outside the room feeling so useless, so powerless and helpless. Like I was losing everything in the world and couldn’t do a single damn thing to stop it. And when he didn’t die, I knew I didn't want to be anywhere near that feeling again, so I think that makes me pretty unsuitable for pediatric surgery.”
Arizona looked away for a minute. She knew the feeling Bailey was narrating. She had felt it on her skin when her baby was born four months too soon after that terrible car accident. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts.
“I'd say that makes you uniquely qualified. And if you have an interest and Richard Webber allows it, I'd love to have a chance to rob you into pediatric surgery.” she said smiling at Bailey before walking away.
***
Arizona was sitting at the bar laughing at what some nurse was saying. She had had her fair share of affairs in Seattle before she time travelled, and now no one understood why she was suddenly celibate.
She was talking to a girl from Pathology when her eyes landed on Calliope. She looked so sad. The weight of the world on her shoulders and still the most beautiful woman she had ever seen.
Arizona saw Little Grey exchange a few words with her before she got up and went to the bathroom.
Kai poked her shoulder. "Go after her, Robbins!" He murmured in her ear.
Arizona smiled and excused herself as she went to the bathroom. Butterflies on her stomach, her hands sweating... God, the effect Calliope had on her, even after all this time...
She opened the bathroom door and couldn’t help but cast an appreciative glance across Calliope's shape, leaning over the sink, touching up her makeup.
“Hey”
"Hey" Calliope answered without turning to her, almost like an automatic answer.
"Ortho, right?"
“Yeah, right. Hi.”
“I'm Arizona Robbins. Peds surgery” (your future wife, mother of your daughter, the love of your life). “I've seen you at the hospital” she took a deep, nervous breath. "Are you ok?"
Callie ruffled her hair, clearly upset. "You know... I'm fine."
And she turned around. And Arizona almost lost her breath at seeing her eyes so closely. She had almost forgotten how expressive and captivating those eyes were. Callie has always been so open... Before all the pain she caused. Pain, she could now, fix.
“Fine. People talk. Where we work. They talk. A lot.” Arizona started anxiously, her speech stilted and awkward, (God what is wrong with her?). "So, for the sake of being honest, I think I should tell you that I know things about you" (because I’m from the future and we were married. Because I asked about you). "Because people talk.”
Callie bowed her head, the smile on her face faded for a second. "Oh... You mean... Terrific." She said muttered tiredly, huffing a sarcastic, breathy laugh.
Callie looked down and Arizona stepped a little closer. “It is, actually. The talk.” Callie leaned against the sink. “People really like you over there. They respect you and they're concerned and interested. They really like you. Some of them really like you.”
Kai shook his head. "Where are you going with this?", he said not expecting an answer.
Arizona took a deep breath. "You just… You look upset. And I thought that you should know that the talk is good. And when you're not upset, when you're over being upset, there will be people lining up for you.”
Calliope laughed and it was one of the most wonderful sounds Arizona had heard. "You want to give me some names?" She asked wryly.
Arizona smiled coyly and approached Callie. She would never understand how Callie could doubt how attractive she was. How magnetic she could be. She leans in and slowed down a bit just an inch before Callie’s lips, not wanting to spook her but also not willing to let a chance by, and when she didn’t move back, leaned in kissed her gently.
Fireworks. Arizona thought. And those lips...
She pulled away slowly. "I think you'll know" She smiled at Callie mischievously before leaving the bathroom.
Kai was laughing alongside her as she paid for hers and Calliope's tabs before leaving the bar to return to her apartment.
“Jesus, that conversation was kind of painful to watch”. Kai said, wincing theatrically “You couldn’t think of anything else to say to her? God! Talking about other people talking, we really need to work on your conversational skills.” Kai sighed dramatically and shaking his head back and forth his wild black curls flopping around, when suddenly he lifted his head to exclaim: “But, hey the kiss! I knew you had it in you!”
Arizona laughed as she threw herself on her bed, her fingers touching her lips gently. She had almost forgotten Calliope's innocent glances. Her charming insecurity. And the lips... Oh those lips! “Reliving this moment is worth any price for coming back here, Kai” she whispered.
Kai's canines flashed in the light for a second before Arizona heard his hoarse laugh fill the apartment.
That night she dreamed of her wedding day.
***
Arizona knew Calliope was following her around the hospital and asking about her, working up the courage to ask her out. And each time she could see a shadow of her getting close, even for a second, she needed to stop and take a deep breath.
Kai seemed to be having fun like never had before, watching this cat and mouse game.
She had just helped the nurses set up a scavenger hunt for the children (they heard about the interns’ scavenger hunt and they wanted to do one too) when Paul and Bethany knocked on her office door.
“Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Anderson! Please come in!” she greeted them excitedly.
Bethany smiled. "Call me Bethany, Doctor Robbins."
"If so, please call me Arizona."
She picked up two folders she had prepared for them, a thing Nicole Herman had taught her for when parents needed to make a medical decision. She took a deep breath before she started. “Wallace's case is quite severe. And I disagree with the treatment made by Dr. Kenley. I think repeating the same surgery more than ten times won’t yield new results. After studying and contacting some colleagues, my official recommendation is that Wallace should’ve a bowel transplant.”
Paul closed his eyes, releasing a heavy breath and Bethany began to cry silently. Arizona gently pushed the folders toward them. “However, no decision needs to be made today. For now, Wallace is stable and maybe he’ll stay in this state. But… In case, we need to interfere… When we discuss transplants, in addition to the risks of surgery, we’re talking about a lifetime of periodic hospital visits and medicines to keep his immune system in check. I have prepared this document for you to help you understand what it might mean in the long run for Wallace and you both. So, you can read, and I’ll be happy to answer your questions. Of course, if you want a second opinion as well, fell free to take it to a second doctor.”
Paul took the folder with shaking hands, tears keeping him from reading. "But would he live?"
Arizona nodded. "I believe this is the best chance for us to extend Wallace's life."
Bethany looked at Arizona for a moment. "Do you have children, Arizona?"
She opened her mouth for a moment almost saying yes, she had. She had a beautiful daughter. But no. She didn't have her daughter. Yet. Arizona smiled. "Not yet."
Bethany nodded. "A transplant means he would have a childhood... A normal life."
“He would need take medicine and need to see a doctor more than usual, yes. But I firmly believe this is Wallace's best chance.”
Before Paul could speak, she smiled. “You don't have to decide anything right now. Take this information home. Read it calmly. Talk to his pediatrician. When you guys make the decision, Wallace will enter a list and then we'll have to wait. There is no rush.”
Paul took a deep breath. "If a transplant is what is needed to see my son grow up, Dr. Robbins, you can put him on that list."
***
Arizona took a deep breath handing the forms to the nurse. Wallace Anderson was officially on the transplant list. Now she just had to wait.
She walked to her office, slowly. She felt the beginnings of a migraine starting to build up just behind her eyes. Arizona closed the door slowly and sat down, resting her head in her hands. She grunted in frustration at Miranda Bailey's application for a fellowship in pediatric surgery. She had noticed the hesitation in Bailey to get away from Richard Webber.
She was exhausted from all these waiting games. It seemed that waiting was all she been doing lately. Wait for Calliope to talk to her. Wait for Sofia to be born. Wait for Richard Webber to stop Bailey from doing the fellowship. Wait for Karev be interested in peds. Wait for Nick’s and April’s arrival. It had all become one big waiting game. And she was shaking with anxiety to begin her life!
***
Arizona massaged her temples while reading Miranda Bailey's application. She needed to talk to Bailey. While it was true that she had a gift for pediatrics and would be a wonderful addition to Arizona’s team she refused to go into battle with Richard Webber, over a resident who still wasn’t all that sure about actually joining. Arizona took a deep breath and skated to the General Surgery Nurse Station. She smiled when she saw Bailey there.
“This is the first step in the beginning of a new life” she stated, pointing to the letters of recommendation in Bailey's hands. “How are we feeling? Positive? Confident?”
Bailey took a deep breath, as if trying to calm down. “I’m good. Great.”
Arizona nodded, crossing her arms. “Peds Surgery is super competitive.” Arizona said, gently trying to poke Bailey. She needed to know if this time the woman was serious about delving into this world. She wouldn’t put her neck on the line for someone unwilling to get on her ship.
Bailey nodded. For the first time in a long time, the great Miranda Bailey found herself wanting to impress an attendant. “That's why I'm armed with letters of recommendation to put the competition to shame. Shepherd says I'm talented and resourceful. Sloan finds it an honor to work with me.”
Before she could continue, Arizona interrupted. “What does the chief think?”
“I'm still working on that.” she promised.
Arizona sighed. “Look, I'm not going to get into a tug war with Richard Webber, Miranda. He's grooming you to take his place, so it's not just his recommendation that matters.”
Bailey looked at her in surprise. “Richard Webber has no decision-making power over my future. You calm down. I've got it under control.”
Arizona smiled. “Good. Because speaking on my behalf, we couldn't be more excited to have you.” Arizona saw Richard coming down the stairs and decided to just skate away. That was a fight she had no interest in getting into.
Bailey almost sighed in relief. She didn't want to go to war with the chief, but that didn't mean Arizona didn't want her as a student.
***
Arizona was analyzing some post-op exams when she felt Calliope approaching. She bit the inside of her cheek trying to stay calm.
Kai appeared beside her. “Here she comes. Try to be smoother than your last conversation.” He said teasingly, winking at Arizona playfully while nudging her shoulder with his.
"Hey," Calliope said, taking a deep breath, resting a hand on the counter.
Arizona turned to her, turning her back to Kai and his theatrics, a big smile on her face. “Calliope. I haven't seen you around!” (Alright, she had seen Calliope watching her through the hospital, but she didn't need to tell her that).
"Well," Callie continued, a big smile on her face. “I've been avoiding you”
Arizona made a false expression of surprise and crossed her arms.
"Is that your best surprise face, woman?!" Kai criticized, but with a fond and exasperated smile on his face. He had never seen Arizona smile so big.
"I know, it's so weird," Callie said, clearly embarrassed by the reddening of her cheeks. “You share a kiss with a woman you've never seen before…”
Arizona's smile faded a little as she saw Callie looking around, as if to make sure no one was listening. Damn, she had forgotten that right now, she was a newbie in the LGBT+ world.
“Honestly, this is a new adventure, one I'm ready to take, for the second time, and… Anyway. Do you want to go on a date with me?”
Arizona tilted her head slightly and smiled. "I would love to."
Callie's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh really?! I mean... This... This is great!”
Arizona giggled softly. She took a piece of paper from her pocket and quickly wrote down her number (old number, current number, Thank God for Kai by her side saying the right one). She steps closer to Callie and puts the paper in her pocket. "I'll wait for your text, Calliope," she murmured, her lips close to Callie's ear before she walked away.
Kai was doing a little dance next to Arizona. “You have a date! You have a date!” He hummed, his bare feet tapping the hospital floor in time with his silly little tune.
Arizona bit her lower lip and couldn’t help but follow Kai’s rhythm. God, she had a date!
***
Callie froze in shock, a huge smile on her face. She honestly thought Arizona would dismiss her. But she had said yes! Her eyes widened. Arizona had said yes. She was expecting a text. She had to plan their date! Callie had never planned a date. God, she had a date!
***
Callie hurried to Bailey's side. Everyone on the surgical staff had heard Bailey sing Arizona’ praises. Bailey was trying to become the woman’s student, for God's sake. She should know Arizona well enough to give some tips, right? Right.
Callie bit her fingernail, waiting for the chief to move away from Bailey. She'd really thought Arizona was going to say something like she wasn't lesbian enough for her, not in a million years did she think she might end up with a date. She tried to approach the other woman casually, leaning over the counter.
"So, Bailey..." she began. "You and Arizona Robbins are kind of friends, right?"
Bailey was way too focused on reading whatever paper she had on her hands to look at Callie. Callie took a deep breath. "Bailey? Bailey, I'm trying to get some help over here."
"The chief..." she started indignantly. "He wrote me a form letter of recommendation." She said showing the paper to Callie.
“What? That's insane. He's the chief, and you're Bailey.” Callie started reading. “Pleasant in the OR and gets along well with the nurses and rest of the staff. She's completed a serviceable amount of research. A fine addition to any program.”
Callie raises her eyebrows in surprise. This couldn’t be a letter about Miranda Bailey, especially not one coming from the chief. The man was practically grooming her to take his place! That’s the best he has to say?!
“Fine! He used the word fine! A blank page would mean more. I pulled off a twelve people domino surgery. I took out and put back six of a dying girl's organs! I'm Dr. Bailey. I'm better than fine!” Bailey marched off furiously.
Callie hurried after her. "Yes, you are! So much that you want to study with Arizona! And I just asked her out and- “
Bailey came to sudden halt and looked at Callie dumbfounded. "Stop. Did you just say that you asked Dr. Robbins out?”
Callie nodded. "And I need help."
Bailey took a deep breath. “You need to not screw it up, because that woman is the best pediatric surgeon I've ever seen. She is almost six weeks without losing a patient. The hospital needs her, and I need her. And now I need to talk to Richard Webber.”
Callie froze in place. Oh, beloved Jesus... What would she do?! She needed Mark. Mark would know what to do.
***
She only found Mark when he came after her… After punching Derek Shepherd. Callie took a deep breath to calm her nerves. Maybe this was not a good time to talk about her love life.
***
Arizona smiled as she saw Callie coming out of the elevator. "Calliope!" She called happily.
Callie turned to her with clearly anxious eyes. "All right! Look, I asked you out, but I don't know how to do that! I kind of just got into this whole girl story… Women. And maybe I'm inexperienced in that. But I am experienced in other things. I mean... I'm a senior resident. I'm a great surgeon. I'm a divorcee., I was in the Peace Corps. Botswana. It was what convinced me to go to med school. And, mostly recently, I've experienced the joy of cooking. And, and maybe now you are thinking you should’ve said no but-” she didn’t seem to be getting anywhere near a pause… Or a breath for that matter.
Arizona bit her lower lip. God, she had almost forgotten how Calliope could get lost into her own head and come to all these conclusions before anything even happened. It was so... Cute. Annoying when it was about decisions in their relationship… But cute. "Calliope?" She interrupted tentatively.
Callie paused for breath, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.
Kai was laughing. "That explains a lot."
Arizona smiled. “Do you want to go out to dinner with me Friday? I'd love to talk more about your experiences.”
Callie smiled with relief. “Yeah. That would be great."
Arizona smiled. "Well, you have my number."
Arizona’s pager started ringing. She pouted. "Damn it. I'd love to hear more, but I need to go.” She approached Callie, her lips almost touching her earlobe. "Bye, Calliope," she muttered breathily before running back to the NICU.
Kai's laugh rang in her ears, but a huge smile was on her face all night long.

I'm not gonna leave - A jafael one shot
Hello ! I know it’s not common in this fandom but I was inspired this week-end and I wrote a little jafael something.
SPOILER ALERT : This story happens just after the particular set episode 7 or 8 takes place. This place is just mentioned but read at your own risk. I hope you see this happening as much as I do !
Hope you’ll like it :D
Tumblr media
SUMMARY : Jane and Rafael broke up and she went in Montana (for whatever reason the writers found). This is their reunion after she’s back from her short trip.
DISCLAIMER : I own nothing !
Jane banged on Rafael’s door or their door? Nothing is certain now. She even left her set of keys at her mom before leaving, that how lost she was. Anyway, she just got off the bus from Montana and couldn’t wait one more minute to talk to him. He opened the door after a second round of knocks.
“Jane! Hi! You’re back?”
She smiled at the sign of him and nodded, he was still wearing his work uniform.
“Mateo isn’t here; he’s sleeping at your parent’s house. Tomorrow is a school day and he would have been too excited to sleep waiting here for your return. Didn’t you get my text?” He asked with concerned.
“Yeah, yeah, you did well, I’m heading there but I needed to see you first.”
“Ah, it’s kind of bad timing right now … “
Jane looked passed his shoulder and saw a slender woman sitting on their… his couch and drinking champagne. She instantly felt a punch in her gut but kept it together, she needed to stay calm.
“It’s Carla, the new coworker I told you about, we’re…celebrating.” He tried to control the situation. “We finally sold a villa that’s been on the market for 7 months now.”
“Oh, hello! Good job, good… well I guess I’ll see you later.” She turned away, ready to leave and to cry on her mom’s shoulder about how she lost everything, again. She paused, her hand on the doorknob. No, not again. This felt too much like a déjà-vu and she refused to relive that one more time.
“I’m not leaving. I’m done with this wrong timing. I’m not doing it again.” She turned around to face Rafael. “We need to talk, right now. Sorry Carla but it’s a now-or-never kind of moment.”
“What Jane?” Rafael asked in a sigh.
“You were right, I love Michael.” Jane announced as a fact.
Rafael rolled his eyes, ready to kick her out, a painful look growing on his face. Jane read his expression immediately and put her hands flat on his chest to calm him, never breaking eye contact.
“I do. I love the life we had, our wedding, how our relationship changed the way I am as a woman, how it helped me grow… But I’m not in love with him, I’m in love with you.”
Rafael frowns, his lips parted a bit, clearly at lost.
“I’m so stupid, that’s what took me so long to understand! I’m not in love with Michael, I just love the memory of us, of our story. But our story ended 5 years ago and I can’t go back to it, keep writing it because I’m in love with you, of course I’m in love with you! I’m in love with our family, I’m in love with our home, I’m in love with our dreams and how we push each other to realize them. This is the story I want to write, with you. “
“Jane… I…I… you hurt me so much.” Raf stuttered.
“I know,” she wiped the tears that started falling down her cheeks. “I wanted you to know that. I’m not gonna leave anymore. Well, though it’s late and I probably should go back to my mum’s to see my son, I missed you two so much.”
Rafael stayed still, still processing what she just said. Jane patted his chest one last time and left, slowly closing the door behind her.
“Well, that was something…” Carla (Sofia Bush’s character, ed) said behind him, still holding her flute of champagne.
“I’m sorry,” Rafael recomposed himself enough to mutter, turning around. “It was Jane, the mother of my son…we have a past.”
“I got that!” Raf sighed heavily and let himself fall on the couch, Carla followed him. She cleared her throat. “Rafael, you should catch her up, now. “
“Excuse me?” He was shocked, weren’t they on a date?
“You heard her declaration? Man, you can’t let her go. Sorry, It’s not really my business but I swoon for a big romantic gesture and she just Notebooked you.”
Latin Lover Narrator: Really? An American romantic drama? Come on! Ew!
A huge thunderclap awaked him from his trance, he stood up quickly. “I gotta go,” Carla nodded, “thank you and sorry but…”
“Go it’s okay, I’ll find the door. See you at work.”
Rafael ran toward the door, emerging in the street, realizing two seconds too late that it was pouring like crazy and he was only wearing his vest to protect him getting wet, which didn’t work. He looked right and left, a hand above his eyes hoping for a miracle to see that she was still here, but he could not see too far in the dark and with this rain… until he caught the glimpse of a phone screen glowing a 100 feet away from him, a small shadow holding it tightly.
Rafael arrived close to the figure in a few steps. “Jane?” He called out loud enough to be heard over the rattling of the rain on the pavement. She raised her head at her name, totally drenched, keeping her purse over her phone to avoid the drowning of her most precious item.
He closed the space between them.
“Why the hell are you standing out here?” He screamed, “You’re going to get sick.” He took off his wet jacket and put it over her naked shoulders.
“My cab didn’t wait for me and the next one arrives in 2 minutes, I’m okay,” she screamed back.
“No you’re not, just come inside, please.”
At this moment, the downpour started to calm down a notch, turning into a more gentle rain.
“See my cab’s coming, you can go back to your…celebration,” Jane said, her voice returning back to normal volume.
“Jane, I need proof.”
She looked at him quizzically.
““I’m not gonna leave”, you told me that before, and you left me, and I can’t go through that again. That’s why I pushed you out when you couldn’t answer me if you still love him. I won’t survive living in this fear of losing you again, so I need proof that all you just said is true, and it’s going to stay true.”
“But, what about Carla? That was obviously a date.”
“It was nothing, just trying to see if my charm is still on point,” he smiled nervously.
Jane let out a laugh, mixed with tears and rain. “Oh, you still have it.” She glanced at her cab driver, who was looking impatient. She put her phone back in her jean’s pocket, and riffled through her purse looking for something and finally pulled out a small black velvety box.
Rafael took a step back, obviously in shocked. “Jane?”
“I was actually waiting for the right moment, hoping it would arrive soon enough, I guess this is it. And you should know how hard it is to find an engagement ring in Montana without a horseshoe or a cowboy hat engraved on it.”
Rafael laughed loudly, was he crying too? Or is it just the rain falling down his eyes?
“I love you Rafael. You’re my future and my present, I want to continue the crazy life I have with you, there is no going back between us. I want all of you. Forever. You and me and Mateo and the future kid we talked about… every day. So …” she started to bend down on one knee.
“Jane come on, stand up, you’re already soaked enough.”
Jane sighed, her eyes glowing as she opened the small box, “Will you marry me?” she asked expectantly. Rafael gave her the biggest smile she’s seen on him in a while.
“On one condition, if you wear your ring too.”
Her own smile grew even bigger “Of course I will”.
“Then, yes, I’ll marry you”. He put his hands on the side of her face and kissed her passionately, forgetting the rain and all their doubt and even the cab leaving them on the sidewalk, drenched but happy, oh so happy.
Latin lover narrator: “And friends, what can we say? It felt like a telenovela… oh okay, The Notebook too, I loved that movie.”
The end.
