I love how George creates the duality of being low-born v high-born in the asoiaf world. The juxtaposition of Catelyn calling all swords and seizing Tyrion at the unsuccessful attempt to kill her son v Mycah’s father being handed his son’s chopped up body, to the point he couldn’t even recognise that it was his son and not a pig, and still not being able to do anything about it but stay quiet. Chilling.

You cant just pitch the idea of Arya naming her son Micah and moving on like you didn't shatter my heart. Naming her son after the first true experience of violence and injustice before her eyes, and it happened to a normal kid who was just being her friend snd honouring a kid who no one but her would ever remember forever in naming a son after him.
I love the idea of the Starks naming their kids after characters theyve lost in the story and no one knowing where Arya got Micah from. But its okay. She remembers Micah, and now in a special way, everyone else will now too.
LISTEN, Arya and Mycah mean so much to me and I think about them a lot. Their relationship was so short-lived but it's such a significant moment in the story and to Arya's development. She is the only one who stood up for that poor boy, the only one to remember him, and the only one who tries to get justice for him. She's remembered him even books later, so I can definitely see her remembering him even longer down the line. I also think that the next generation will have some familiar names (I can definitely see some Ned's and Robb's down the line) and it would be so beautiful if Arya named a child after Mycah and kept his memory alive.

A Game of Thrones, Sansa I
Arya went for him.
Sansa slid off her mare, but she was too slow. Arya swung with both hands.
There was a loud crack as the wood split against the back of the prince’s head, and then everything happened at once before Sansa’s horrified eyes.
Joffrey staggered and whirled around, roaring curses.
Mycah ran for the trees as fast as his legs would take him.
Arya swung at the prince again, but this time Joffrey caught the blow on Lion’s Tooth and sent her broken stick flying from her hands.
The back of his head was all bloody and his eyes were on fire.
Sansa was shrieking, “No, no, stop it, stop it, both of you, you’re spoiling it,” but no one was listening.
Arya scooped up a rock and hurled it at Joffrey’s head. She hit his horse instead, and the blood bay reared and went galloping off after Mycah.
“Stop it, don’t, stop it!” Sansa screamed.
Joffrey slashed at Arya with his sword, screaming obscenities, terrible words, filthy words.
Arya darted back, frightened now, but Joffrey followed, hounding her toward the woods, backing her up against the tree.
Sansa didn’t know what to do. She watched helplessly, almost blind from her tears.

The point of Mycah's murder isn't just to say that certain characters don't care about ordinary people or even that Westerosi society doesn't care, although they are both important aspects too. It also point out how fantasy as a genre, and fiction in general, tends not to care about them either. It's an important moment in defining GRRM's attitude as the author towards death in contrast to other media.

"It was the butcher’s boy, Mycah, his body covered in dried blood. He had been cut almost in half from shoulder to waist by some terrible blow struck from above."- Ned(AGOT III). "She ran faster than she had ever run before, her head down and her feet churning up the river, she ran from him(Hound) as Mycah must have run. His axe took her in the back of the head."- Arya(ASOS XI). Sounds similar especially with Mycah reference.
GRRM explicitly makes the connection in the text, so it doesn't sound similar so much as GRRM is telling us outright to compare the two.
The Hound rode down Mycah just as he rides down Arya, though with different intentions. Arya has no reason to trust him, and in this moment of absolute peak trauma, she doesn't see a potential savior, only another threat, a child murderer, a monster. She runs from him.
I suspect GRRM wants us very much to remember that this is not a nice selfless guy. This is a monster, even if he is keeping Arya alive in this moment. Bad bad people are capable of doing objectively good things, for whatever their motivation may be. Something to keep in mind for other villains as well.
The Hound also once saved Sansa from rape only to almost do that very thing to her himself. Something to else to keep in mind for other villains, as well.

He was walking back to the tower to give himself up to sleep at last when Sandor Clegane and his riders came pounding through the castle gate, back from their hunt.
There was something slung over the back of his destrier, a heavy shape wrapped in a bloody cloak.
“No sign of your daughter, Hand,” the Hound rasped down, “but the day was not wholly wasted. We got her little pet.” He reached back and shoved the burden off, and it fell with a thump in front of Ned.
Bending, Ned pulled back the cloak, dreading the words he would have to find for Arya, but it was not Nymeria after all.
It was the butcher’s boy, Mycah, his body covered in dried blood. He had been cut almost in half from shoulder to waist by some terrible blow struck from above.
“You rode him down,” Ned said.
The Hound’s eyes seemed to glitter through the steel of that hideous dog’s-head helm.
“He ran.” He looked at Ned’s face and laughed. “But not very fast.”

If Ned’s men had found Mycah before Sandor Clegane had gotten to him and taken the boy into their custody, do you think there is a chance he would have been allowed to go to the Wall and join the Night’s Watch?
Mycah would probably get whacked even if Ned did manage to both outmaneuver Cersei and convince Robert.
