The title says all but elaboration is needed.

Wu's Academy will be competing against Pythor's Prep School in the Friendship Games. The Ninjas vs the Flashfires. Kai, Nya, Zane, Jay, and Cole vs Harumi, Skylor, Morro, Skales, Mr. E, and Lloyd. The competition is fierce and the Flashfires have won every year. Will the Ninja be able to win for Wu's Academy or will the Flashfires be taking the cake? How will the Ninja keep their powers secret? Why are the Ninjas losing their powers one by one? What is Pythor doing in the library? And what is up with the weird necklace Lloyd is wearing? All will be answered in the Friendship games.

Kai is sad and angry. Lloyd is depressed. Wu has no idea he has a nephew. And Nya is done with everyone's bullshit.

A Midnight Rainbow Masterpost

A Midnight Rainbow is my main MLP fanfic. It takes place vaguely after the events of Make Your Mark. It started after A New Generation, but I try to incorporate what I can.

The major storyline is something I'll flesh out as I go, but the main plot point is the evil changelings are back and they want revenge.

There is no art for these guys yet - but there will be. I don't really write fleshed out character backstories or personalities, so I won't have much here.

Midnight Waters

Unicorn - very scientifically-minded, and will get into debates with you about anything.

RnM Headcanons:

I promised to write some headcanons about the girls and their guardians some time ago. I finally had motivation to write them down, so here there are!

Optimus Prime and Sunset Shimmer:

- Sunny never had a father figure in her life and really enjoys it when they spent time together

- Optimus is very caring and protective of his charge

- You know this thing where you tell your dad you like this specific stuff and then he brings you more? That’s definitely OP

- One time he overheard Sunset having discussion with Pinkie Pie about their favorite desserts. After mentioning that she really likes strawberry cheesecake, and that’s her favorite fruit, Optimus swiftly assigned himself a mission

- Later, when Sunset had to leave her home to get some groceries, she was greeted by bunch of wooden boxes full of strawberries on her front door

- She was flabbergasted

SS: Optimus- how did you-?!

OP: I heard you mentioning that you enjoy this specific type of fruit.

SS: You didn’t need to bring me a whole stack of it!

OP: Oh, apologies… Do you perhaps need more?

SS: Wha- NO!

- They both like reading so they will certainly share their opinions or recommend some of the books they like (especially history ones)

- Usually there are moments when one of them starts feeling down while talking about their past

- Lots of comfort and reassurance

- You cannot tell me Sunset hasn’t call him ‘dad’ at least once on accident

- She will most likely feel super embarrassed about it, however, Optimus will start crying from the inside

- One time she even decided to draw him a portrait as a small gift (he kept it in his quarters and smiles every time he sees it <3)

Arcee and Twilight Sparkle:

- You guys know Eda and Luz from the Owl house? That’s them. Except that Arcee is waaay much more of a strict and protective mom figure

- This motorcycle lady doesn’t understand half of the science stuff her charge is saying but that doesn’t mean she is not listening

- Calls her ‘kid’ most of the time, even though Twilight said she was a full grown adult who can take care of herself

- Arcee has these ‘mother/carrier instincts’ she just can’t help but WORRY

- Really enjoys to rest besides her human companion and listen to her talking

- Fun fact: it took a bit longer for Arcee to realize that she had become a parental figure... again

- One time, Twilight asked if she can learn some words of their Cybertronian language and Arcee gladly accepted to teach her

- They often go out for a drive, especially when Twilight gets too overwhelmed with work

- How many times did this girl fell asleep while doing her studies? Arcee lost count.

- Robot mom grabs a blanket, wraps it around her and carries her to somewhere more comfortable

- Heck she will even hold her till she wakes up if she can’t find a place for her to take a proper rest

- Will kick anyone’s ass/aft if they disrupt her sleeping

- Brains and brawn duo

Knock Out and Rarity:

- So stylish and dramatic

- *cough* theatre kids *cough*

- Can literally stare at you with judging faces while also gossiping about your appearance

- Shopping? Oh, absolutely.

- What’s better than having a guardian who can transform into a car and carry your bags in his vehicle mode?

- To return the favor Rarity offers him a hand with polishing his finish

- They have this ‘relaxation day’ once in a while

- Buffing, manicures, watching movies, trying on some makeup or outfits, you know it

- He really wanted to try these types of masks which made your skin cleaner and softer. Doesn’t give a flying frag if he is a robot, will even use a mass displacement to try it out

- Knock Out is kinda touch starved and it didn’t took Rarity too long to realize that

- Her guardian often suggests if he can hold her or if she wants to sit on his shoulder-pad while he works

- This big cherry bot really enjoys to run his digit around her curly hair or to playfully poke her cheeks

- As his best friend, she always gives him compliments for the good work he has done

- There was even a moment when she was in her robot form and she cupped his face-plate while praising him

- And let me tell you. Knock Out was absolutely stunned. He was on the verge of TEARS. (poor boy needs more love and attention)

- Hugs are a must, he just starves for them

- Appreciates it a lot whenever Rarity is there for him

Sideswipe and Rainbow Dash:

- SIBLINGS SIBLINGS SIBLINGS

- They are the MASTERS of pranks

- Chaos, absolute chaos I tell you

- Pretty cocky and competitive too

- Some of their team members even wonder how are they not related??

- Often show off their abilities and talk about how they are 'the most skilled person/bot there ever is'

- They share one brain cell

- Both of them care deeply for each other, they just show it through actions. They aren’t really into the sharing feelings conversations but if things get pretty tough, they will have to talk about it, whether they like or not

- Sideswipe has these overprotective habits where he keeps his optics on her all the time or stays pretty close during any dangerous situations. This dude just doesn’t want to see her getting harmed otherwise he will flip out

- During their free time they like to play video games, go racing or just go for a casual drive, have training exercises (soccer, fighting etc.) or to annoy the rest if they are bored and have nothing else to do

- Will never tell this to anyone else but there a few occasions when they like to rest together

- Imagine one of them has a nightmare or can’t fall asleep. It’s snuggle time.

-If he is recharging in his vehicle form, Rainbow will grab a pillow and curl up on the seats OR he will lay on his chassis and rest his helm over his crossed arms, then he can nestle her close to his face-plate

- Sideswipe is a music enjoyer so he will definitely hype her up when she plays the guitar

- Rainbow teaches him all of the slangs and memes she can think of

- They cover one another or make up excuses if they want to go out to have some fun

- Dash pretty often forgets about things she needs to do (chores, homework or smth else) but her guardian is there to remind her

Bumblebee and Fluttershy:

- The 'parent friends' of the group

- Bee has these awful dad-jokes that he uses and somehow Shy is the only one that will laugh at them

- Some of their teammates tease the two about them acting just like love-bugs

- Bumblebee was so delighted when Fluttershy got out of her shell and finally felt comfortable around him

- Finds it adorable when she becomes too flustered and covers her face

- Like to talk about their interests and listen to each other

- Sometimes he gets a bit nervous and forgets how to properly talk (even if it’s a compliment or want to ask her something) she thinks it's cute

- If she gets too scared her first instinct is to quickly hide behind him

- He really loves listening to their band’s music when they practice at the base

- Both enjoy the late night drives when they can relax

- They often talk about Earth and it’s most incredible places they have seen or wish to explore. Bee will probably plan a short trip just for the two of them, the Groundbridge is right there!

Smokescreen and Pinkie Pie:

- This two are always full on energy

- Will never get bored when they are together, they will find something fun or mischievous to do

- *gasp* Oh no, Smokey is sad? Np! Pinkie is here to help! She has her ways of cheering people up.

- Poor big bot wishes he could taste human food. Every time he sees her amazing baked goods he pouts

- One day she made some cupcakes with blue-yellow icing that matched his color scheme (he didn’t cry after that nooo)

- He can get anxious tho, especially when Pinkie is too carefree (he doesn’t want his human to get hurt after all)

- Smokescreen is a show-off so he usually tries to impress her with his fighting abilities and speed

- This sweet girl always encourages him and supports her guardian no matter what

- He is amazed by the many talents she has (baking, playing the drums, roller skating etc.) like how?? What she can’t do?!

- Will always remain surprised by her hair. She keeps so many things inside, how is that even possible? Guess it will remain a mystery.

Bulkhead and Applejack:

- When I tell you AJ is one of the strongest members in the team, I mean it

- She can lift every heavy and large bot with EASE

- Their hugs are so funny and adorable she sometimes doesn’t realize she is actually lifting him from the ground

- Often talk about the good old days or the cool adventures they had

- Sometimes they have wrestling competitions and what do you know, AJ wins them all!

- If no one else is around, Bulkhead will help her out with the chores in the apple farm

- Will sometimes stumble on something by accident and apologize immediately

- Applejack thinks his clumsy and nervous side is pretty sweet

- She always appreciates his assistance (even tho he crushed several trees, oops)

- He definitely likes hearing her cute snorts when she laughs

A Midnight Rainbow - Chapter 1

Midnight ran out the door, a sandwich in tow and deep blue hair falling into her eyes. Her sister was waiting outside the door, tapping her hooves. Midnight rolled her eyes. Dawn knew she could just teleport if Midnight was taking too long, right? Looking up at the sky, Midnight was able to tell that they had about an hour or so before school started.

“We have time,” Midnight said. “We are literally an instant away from the school.”

“The bus has better scenery,” Dawn pointed out.

Better ‘scenery,’ Midnight thought wryly. There was one reason why Dawn wanted to take the bus, and one only. Maybe two if Midnight were to stretch it. Dawn wasn’t good at magic, but she did know both decent teleportation spells, and that Midnight could teleport them if they wanted.

“You going to finally—” Midnight was cut off by the sound of the bus arriving.

“The bus is here!” Dawn ran onto the bus.

Midnight followed behind Dawn, albeit much more slowly. And exactly like she suspected, Dawn’s eyes were heading straight towards a deep red pegasus. Anycreature could plainly see the muscles on her, rivaling Dawn’s.

“There’s a free seat near her,” Midnight pointed out.

“What about you?” Dawn asked.

“I’ll study,” Midnight said. “You know how Flaming Hooves always has us take a test on the first day.”

“Ugh, don’t remind me,” Dawn complained. “But thanks.”

Dawn went over to sit by Crimson while Midnight found a seat in the back. Nocreature was around, a perfect place to bring out her books and spend the half hour bus ride studying. Flaming Hooves was the instructor of one of the main magic classes, namely where they study the theory of magic. Memorization wasn’t always the best part of magic, which is why she was glad it wasn’t history of magic. Ugh. Starswirl, Clover, Twilight, Sunny, so many names to memorize. Nevertheless, she pulled out her favourite book to study with.

The Workings of Magic, 10th Edition. It was, what she had found to be, the definitive edition of how magic worked. The author was releasing a new one soon, but Midnight knew that her parents would deny it if there wasn’t a major change or it wasn’t required for school. Might as well get to reading. It was impossible to tell which sections Flaming Hooves would test them, so it was best to speedread the book. Small enough for her to get through in half an hour.

Magic has been in common use for millennia. One question that has plagued the mind of many a creature, pony- and non-pony kind alike, is “how does this stuff work?” From unicorn spells to cutie mark magic to pegasus flight, it was always a daunting feat to even get close to perfecting it, let alone understanding it.

The introduction was always something. A hook to get readers interested. Promises of theories of how pegasi fly, how unicorns cast spells, how cutie marks are determined, how alicorns are created, and much more. This book seemed to have sorted everything by how common it was. As such, cutie marks were the first chapter.

Cutie marks are something that everypony has seen and wondered about. “I wonder what this means?” “When will I get mine?” is a common question by fillies, upon seeing the flanks of older ponies. What everypony agrees on, is that they are an indicator of a pony’s true talent. However, the interpretation of this talent may change, depending on who is looking at the mark.

Some cutie mark interpretations are obvious; Pinkie Pie’s, for example, was a grouping of balloons. Balloons are associated with laughter and parties, and as such, Pinkie Pie’s special talent was to make others laugh.

However, some are not so obvious. In Our Friendship Journal – Friendship Adventures and Problems, Twilight Sparkle recounts a tale from the Cutie Mark Crusaders, “We had been called upon to answer a young foal’s parents’ questions about her cutie mark. This cutie mark was a skull and bones. Her parents believed that it may represent that her talent was to be a pirate, however, it was just archeology.” This demonstrates that cutie marks may be misinterpreted to what may be disastrous consequences.

In Our Friendship Journal – Friendship Problems, Twilight Sparkle recounts a tale of her own. “I had cast the spell that Princess Celestia had given to me, and nothing had seemed to have happened. However, when I woke up, everything had changed. Rainbow Dash was doing Fluttershy’s job, Rarity was doing Rainbow Dash’s, it was honestly nothing but a mess….It turns out that [the spell that Celestia gave me] had switched their cutie marks, making them believe their destinies had changed.” Here, it is demonstrated that a switching of cutie marks may lead to ponies being confused or changed.

The book went on to describe multiple events that resulted in changings of cutie marks from those two sources. Midnight flipped to the next section after making sure she knew of all of them. Then the next, after meeting the same criteria.

By the time she got to the acknowledgements at the end, Midnight saw that the school was approaching. She turned to put her book back in the bag, when she came face to face with…herself? She almost screamed, but kept her voice under control, if not for her heartrate.

The other her smiled before changeling-transforming into a beautiful changeling. This changeling was a gradient of orange and red, and had a warm aura about her. Just by standing there, she looked amazingly graceful. Her voice only added to that feeling.

“That’s an amazing book,” the changeling said. “I can’t wait for their next edition.”

“I wish I could get it,” Midnight responded. She was feeling something just looking at this changeling. She was just warm. Wait. “Were you reading over my shoulder?”

“Maaaybeee,” the changeling replied. “Sorry. It’s my first day here and I’m nervous and I usually like to read or watch something when I’m nervous but I left everything at home and I didn’t know what textbook to buy for each class and—hang on. Why are you even studying on the first day?”

“One of the teachers enjoys giving us a test on the first day,” Midnight explained.

“Oh no,” the changeling said. “Who?”

“You might not have him,” Midnight responded. “Flaming Hooves.”

“Ugh,” the changeling groaned. “I have him first period.”

“Then we’re in the same class,” Midnight said.

“Can you take me there?” the changeling asked. “I have not managed to make sense of this map at all. It’s worse than the old maps of the Changeling Hive.”

“I doubt it’s that bad,” Midnight responded. “Everything stays in the same place. But yeah. I’m just meeting up with my sister.”

“Thanks, uhh…”

“Midnight.”

“I’m Veselka. Nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too.”

Midnight walked over to where Dawn was listening intently to Crimson. Has she noticed that the bus arrived?

“We’re here,” she said.

“Oh!” Dawn looked out the window. She turned to Crimson. “It’s been really nice talking to you. After school today?”

“Of course,” Crimson said. “This your sister?”

“Yep,” Dawn said. “You two would get along. Crimson here has been trying to do a sonic rainboom and almost talked my ears off about the technique involved. You’re exactly like when Midnight gets interested in something.”

“Would you be able to help me?” Crimson asked Midnight.

“Me?” Midnight responded. “I-I can’t do much.”

“She can do a lot,” Dawn assured.

“I could help too,” Veselka said from beside Midnight. At least, Midnight thought it was Veselka. That would only make sense, considering that there was a second Crimson next to her. The actual Crimson jumped into the air, then floated back down.

“Hah-hah, very funny, changeling,” Crimson spat.

“Woah, woah, woah,” Veselka changed back. “Why the hostility?”

“I was hostile?” Crimson asked. “Sorry. I’ve…well…yeah. I’d be grateful for any help. I just wish I had access to a vacuum.”

“Doctor Hooves’ first law of motion?” Midnight asked. “I don’t know if that would help. Flight is dependant upon his third law. Unless you were to assure that you would continue accelerating, I don’t know how easy it would be to reach supersonic speeds.”

They started to walk off the bus.

“I was thinking of a vertical one,” Crimson explained. “That way, gravity would accelerate me and I wouldn’t have to deal with air resistance.”

“Would you get the ‘rain’ part of a rainboom, though?” Midnight wondered. “I’ve seen similar events occur in relation to magic, such as that documentation of one of Twilight Sparkle’s stronger spells.”

“Well a wing sized boom would still be cool,” Crimson answered. She started to turn. “I’ll see you after school, Dawn.”

“She’s a keeper,” Midnight whispered to Dawn after Crimson left. She turned to Veselka. “You’re looking for Flaming Hooves’ classroom, right?”

“Yeah…” Veselka said. “Is that a common attitude towards changelings?”

“It’s…” Midnight trailed off.

“I’d say it’s about 75-25,” Dawn said. “Most ponies are okay with changelings, even impressed by them. I’d just say that Crimson had a bad experience with them.”

“Makes sense,” Veselka replied. “Is the test hard?”

“It’s a formative assessment,” Midnight explained. “It’s pretty much this school year’s work in one test. I have a few books I can show you if you’re interested in what we’re going to learn.”

“I’ll look at them after class,” Veselka said.

They stopped at the door. Midnight opened it to reveal that they were the first ones there.

“Come sit with us,” Dawn offered.

They sat down at a table and watched the other students go in. Veselka stayed in her changeling form. Flaming Hooves bucked the door open. Midnight was always impressed by earth pony strength.

“Good morning, class!” he said. “I hope we’re all rested and ready to go. I know I am.”

He placed his bag and some papers on his desk. “Before we get started with this class, I say we talk about our summer breaks!”

“What’s up with him?” Dawn whispered to Midnight.

“Probably just had a good summer,” Midnight shrugged.

“So, did anyone do anything interesting this summer?” Flaming Hooves asked, putting special emphasis on the word “interesting.”

Nopony responded. There was the same tense atmosphere that you’d find in any first class.

“Well,” Flaming Hooves said. “I had a nice adventure. Went up Mount Aris.”

Midnight felt Veselka tense beside her. I’ll ask her what’s up later.

“Today, we’ll be testing your magical aptitude,” Flaming Hooves said. “A practical test, so to speak.”

He held up a piece of paper. “Any injuries suffered within this room will be immediately healed as of the release of this spell.

“I have created a list of pairings, and I shall read them out.”

He read down the list, pairing unicorn and unicorn, pegasus and pegasus, earth pony and earth pony, etc.. Until he got down to Midnight.

“Midnight and Veselka,” he said. “I have heard of your magical prowess, Midnight, and I trust that you can match that of a changeling.”

The room split the creatures into smaller rooms. Flaming Hooves’ voice echoed throughout.

“You must defeat your partner in practical combat, using whatever weapons are at your disposal. Don’t worry, any injuries are temporary, no matter how severe.”

The rooms around them erupted into a cacophony of chaotic sounds. Veselka hesitated. Neither of them would shoot first. This isn’t what he usually does.

Then, catching Midnight off-guard, a laser was shot at her flank. Her magic shield cut it off.

“So we’re doing this,” she said.

“It’s safer this way, trust me,” Veselka said. The two started circling as Veselka continued. “Neither of us can win.”

“What do you mean neither of us can win?” Midnight jumped away from another laser.

“I-I can’t explain right now,” Veselka responded. “Trust me, okay?”

Midnight nodded. She started to charge a spell that would normally incapacitate both of them, but slowly. Then she saw Veselka’s horns start to grow with a similar energy. They nodded at each other. Before Midnight could blink, two explosions shot her to the floor.
