I went to a prestigious plant/perennial fair today and bought nothing. Instead I took some budleia and rosemary cuttings in the city garden for the new barn. Everything is growing and blooming nicely and I upgraded our water barrel system.

our second mantis ootheca of the year just hatched!

full of little guys like this cutie who didn't want to get off my hand:

I put the birthing container in our backyard wildflower garden so our new friends can control the population of pests without using any pesticide

the ootheca is still pouring out more babies:

What's everyone's favourite flowers that aren't like. The normal ones. Like everyone's a fan of roses and sunflowers what's a more niche one. One you don't get in gift sets. Mine's sweet peas

the allergy i am seeing grow up around small talk in any form is troubling to me. do you know how to make friends with people in your physical environment? it typically starts with small talk. do you want to live in community? small talk. do you want to have the type of relationship with your neighbors where you can run over and borrow a battery for your smoke detector when it starts beeping at 10pm? small talk!! do you want leeway from your coworkers when you fuck up something small? you gotta be able to build a relationship and that's small talk, baybeee.

"but i don't need friends and i don't care about community!" okay, lone ranger, what about the people in your community who need you? "but i have social anxiety!" me too, bud! we simply must soldier on. making up lists of questions to ask people helps. and people are predisposed to be generous, i've found. even if you make some kind of mistake, what is this but the natural give and take of human interaction? nobody is perfect.

you were not put on this earth to live by yourself and then die. you need people and people need you. treat those around you with curiosity and generousness of spirit and you will gain so much goodwill in return.

#my pharmacist spotted me a weeks worth of meds once when mine were in a building closed for asbestos #because we'd been doing small talk for a couple of months and had a rapport #this is not emotional labor btw. in no way is 'doing small talk' emotional labor. dont say that.#edification #community is a garden

Beautiful droplets. I really don't want to weed out these Lupins from the Neo Garden but I'm gonna have to eventually bite the bullet and do it;

if I ever want native Lupin (Lupinus perennis) in these gardens I'll have to not have garden lupines (Lupinus polyphyllus) to avoid interbreeding since they breed a little too zealously. It's part of why pureblood native Lupins are so hard to find even in the wild anymore.

Till I can remedy that in my gardenscapes I'll enjoy the beauty of these lads a little longer.

We sat around and watched. We planted willows and started a dead wood pile. We put old potatoes in the lawn to see if it becomes a vegetable garden. We put up the previous owners' easter decoration. We took parts of perennials from the big garden and moved them to the new bar's yard. I heavily pruned the rose and am now eagerly waiting to see how it'll bloom. We will continue to watch where the sunny patches are and where the water goes to decide what to do where.

It's my first time landscaping a property that is mostly grass/herbs and a few shrubs and I am so excited.
