DP - Team Halfa AU

What do you think about Sam, Tucker, & Valerie becoming halfas? Like, what if the ecto-acne is actually more like ecto-herpies, so it wasn't completely cured & Sam & Tucker slowly became halfas over the course of several years.

Undergrowth & Duul Aman left sort of imprints on their ecto-signatures so they have some of the powers they had when possessed, such as florokinesis (psychic plant manipulation) & dunemancy (sand magic), but once they fully form as actual halfas, they also get personal powers. Like, Sam getting ghost magic (the only names for it I could find were ectomancy & spectromancy, however they were pretty much the same thing, it isn't necromancy either) or umbrakinesis (psychic shadow or darkness manipulation) & her unique physiology as a plant halfa makes her immune to Blood Blossoms & gives her the ability to manipulate them with her powers. Also, Tucker having technokinesis (psychic technology manipulation) similar to Technus & developing a hot core with a lightning element.

As for the thing with Sam's ghost magic, I'm thinking of making it so that magic is divided into 2 columns; living magic & dead magic. Living magic is what the living uses, while dead magic is what the dead use & they are slightly different from each other. Within these columns are a list of the forms of magic used. Living magic & dead magic have many similar uses, but I suppose you could say that they have different consistencies to them. Like, there is a living cryomancy & a dead cryomancy & they do similar things, but are not completely the same in its affects.

Also, Sam's use of magic is more all-purpose than Danny or Tucker's, making her sort of the Sorcerer of their group.

If it were my choice, Sam's ghost form would have glowing yellow eyes with pale, mint green sclera. Giving them sort of a Chat Noir look. I'm divided between whether her hair should be more of a silver white or light grey as opposed to Danny's snow white or if it should remain black. Her skin would turn a darker shade of tan than Phantom's. She'd also grow fangs, cat-like claws, & a forked tongue (but not long, thin, or prehensile like Dan, & probably Vlad's, is) upon reaching Halfa Puberty.

Tucker's eyes in ghost form would be a sort of glowing orange-red color, like blood orange or ginger or something. His hair would absolutely turn a sort of platinum shade of white. The sort that has an almost metallic sheen to it. His skin would darken until it was very dark. He'd also have longer, more pronounced, sharper canines instead of just fangs, as well as dog-like nails that aren't really sharp & their danger comes from the force behind them (like Inuyasha), & a canid tongue, upon reaching Halfa Puberty.

This Halfa Puberty would also give them pointed elf-like ears exactly like Vlad's & slitted pupils.

Danny would also get these 2 features, though he'd have canines like Tucker, a draconic tongue (long, thick, tapering, & prehensile with a pointex tip), & Inuyasha claws.

If it makes it easier to envision, imagine Sam as being a fusion of Poison Ivy & Raven from DC & Tucker as a fusion of Static Shock, Technus, & Gaara from Naruto. At least, power wise.

As for Valerie, I think she’d become something more along the lines of an ecto-liminal, but a unique one. She might be able to gain a pseudo-core & ecto-signature, but I feel like her powers would be bound to her armor. (There’s this ‘race’ in DnD 5e called Animated Armor which is a soul bound to a set of armor. There’s also this homebrew somewhere that allows a character to wear said armor. So, I think of it like Valerie’s wearing one of these armors. The only difference here is that the soul possessing the armor is her own living one.)

Like, when not wearing her armor, she'd just have the typical ecto-liminal powers. Things like enhanced physicality, better senses, ability to see in the dark, able to see & touch non-ectoplasmic spiritual entities, a sort of feather fall ability, & the ability to affect people's sense of object permanence in regards to herself.

Just small, easy to dismiss things.

But when wearing her armor? She has full ghost powers, but it's done by proxy of technology enhanced with ecto-energy. So, invisibility would work using a camouflage function. Intangibility would work based on molecular phasing vis high-speed vibration (think the Flash), & ghost rays would work by using guns that are built into the suit.

It could create interesting irony & internal conflict for her character if she were to begin to exhibit more & more ghostly features.

I don't think any of them would ever have the same potential or power that Danny does, but that's mostly because of the unique way in which he became halfa. Similar to the way I think Vlad would've soon lost his edge against Danny. Though, that also has to do with the fact that he's a businessman & it's unlikely that he made much contact with the GZ before Danny opened the portal & most of his training beyond his ghost powers was in an attempt to remain fit.

Is this an excuse to ship Amethyst Ocean & Hunter Silly (Tucker/Valerie)? Partially. But I also wouldn't mind Gray Ghost or Veggie Burger (Sam/Tucker). So, take your pick.

Also, Tucker would absolutely go by Tucker Ghouly or Cyber-Tuck & Sam would be Sammy Manes.

I wonder how Vlad would react to this?

I love Jade as a character. I think she's really compelling and has a lot of room for growth that goes underutilized. I was gonna include comic panels, but I got lazy, and was just looking forward to ranting so here we go.

I touched on this a little bit here in my answer to my thoughts on DC possibly bringing back Roy/Jade- but something I feel gets ignored or forgotten a lot is just... how traumatic Jade's childhood was. Jade's character was introduced in 1983, the Vietnam war had just ended in 1975, and while French forces officially pulled out of Vietnam in 1954 this does not mean that all the French left. We see this time and again with occupying forces, once the occupation officially ends on paper, there are always those who stay behind. For these reasons I think it's very telling that Jade's parents are a Frenchman and a Vietnamese woman (yes I know that in Birds of Prey: Sensei and Student it was revealed that her biological father is actually a US Senator, but the point still very much stands), there is a reason why Jade chooses to go by her mother's name, Nguyen, as opposed to her "father's", Chaumont. It's very telling that Jade's childhood was not a happy one, and that it was not a happy one even before she was sold into slavery. We don't get many details about her time enslaved, but we do know that the trauma drove her "insane" and that she became free by killing her master. She was then informally adopted by a freedom fighter named Weng Chan, and then at only 16 years old was married to Kruen Musenda (Spitting Cobra) who taught her his poisonous craft- and she killed him two years later. That's a lot to unpack. Jade takes on the mantle of Cheshire not because it's what she wants to be, but because it's what she's had to become, and it's what she's had to embrace being.

And this trauma in no way absolves her of her sins. She's a terrorist, she's an assassin, she's done horrible things. But she's also experienced terrible things- her character is really set up in such a way that her narrative continues to show these little peeks of vulnerability, ideas of what Jade could be without Cheshire, of a Jade that wants to heal from what was done to her and leave the violence and the pain behind. There is room in her story for growth, and so many of these opportunities for growth come when she lets herself be seen by others instead of disappearing like the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. Her story is one of finding freedom, and she constantly has to fight for it, but in her bid for freedom she becomes something that others use (in Titans (Volume 2) #34 Drago wants to use her to produce an heir). Jade's story is about having and finding freedom, but her choices often put her in a position where she isn't free, and where she no longer has a choice.

This gets me every time, because it's a glimpse into Jade's mind that we don't often get this clearly, we're not having to read between the lines to see what Jade thinks or feels for once- and here Jade is behind bars and in captivity, and she's thinking of her family- of her time spent loving Roy Harper and with her daughter. I choose to interpret this as being what Jade would choose if she could- but a big part of her character is that she doesn't really know who she is without Cheshire, I think it would be really interesting to give her the chance to explore that on the page more.

I'm really tired of just seeing posts about her that are like "love my murder wife" or "sexy assassin babe" or like.... literally nothing about her as a character and just focusing on the fact that she's hot. Which she is, but there's a lot more to her character than that, and I think it does her a disservice to only focus on her being a sexy evil lady. I also think that newer comics have strayed away from her backstory which I don't really like, because there are elements of it that you can keep and easily modernize, and parts of it that you can let go of without taking too much away from what makes her Jade. (Also Young Justice really did her dirty and I'm gonna bitch about that forever).

But onto the second part of this question. What would I want Jade's relationship with Lian to look like? I do like the physically distant but loving thing Jade has going on with Lian, and with modern comics that have modern communication options it would be significantly easier for Jade to keep in contact with Lian from a distance, and I think there's a lot that could be done there. And I've mentioned this also in this response which I've also linked above, that I think Lian being allowed and able to see the good in Jade is very important. I think a big part of what I would like to see, especially from a narrative perspective, is that Lian will receive unfounded judgement because of who her mother is and because she loves her mother, and part of overcoming that I think would have to include Lian questioning Jade about why she became Cheshire and learning that story would be a really good character moment. I don't personally think that Jade (or Roy) would really want Lian learning the details of Jade's trauma until he's in her late teens and can really be at an age where she can understand and process it. But, and again this is from a story telling perspective, I think it would be really poetic and fitting if Lian were to take on the mantle of Cheshire, but as a hero- to take the manifestation of her mother's hurt and rage and to take it on out of love instead, and to use it to prove others wrong, and to showcase lessons she learned from her mother. Lian exists because Jade fell in love, and because Jade is someone a JLA member was able to fall in love with, and for her to combine her father's fighting style with her mother's name and mantle would be a touching and poetic way to sort of showcase their relationship I think. Because Lian and Jade's relationship really is about love- and it's about how love is hard, and fraught, and full of sacrifice.

Lian and Jade shouldn't have an easy relationship. Lian needs to see the good and the bad in her mother, but from what we've seen on Lian's character, and of the way Roy and Jade interact and their relationship, there will hopefully be attempts at understanding motivations without using that as a way to excuse actions. Lian should be allowed to be angry at her mother for putting her in this position, and for doing horrible things, while also acknowledging that her mother loves her and is good to her and that she loves her mother in return. These emotions can coexist and they make for great story telling, and I really think that if Jade won't find out who she is without Cheshire for herself that she would do it for Lian.

In Supersons we see a couple of kids that are implied to be Damian and Jon's children and the boy has laser eyes and can fly, so I asume he's not adopted. The girl, who calls Bruce grandpa, can also fly, btw. So it's canon (probably by accident) that Jon can have kids and he must have married one of Bruce's kids. Luoyang episode 2 spoiler-y watch notes

This show is really, authentically GOOD btw. It's early to say for sure how this lines up with my fav dramas, because that really depends on how well the plot plays out, but v promising.

Excellent job setting the stage for the empress. The series establishes her as a powerful character thru the behavior of others - the tension and sweat from the summoned officials and guards. The paleateable fear in the room. I really love how there is no need to make her bluster or chew scenery.

And huh, looks like that tossing around of the empress' name by Inner Guard wasn't short-sighted after all. This Madam Wu does have the monarch's trust (for now). Makes Lord Gao look more foolhardy in retrospect. He should have had a better pulse on the political situation. So if it's not that he's a dumbass, then the man is crooked. 🤔 Remains to be seen.

Madam Wu actually has seemed so far to have the interests of the empress as her guiding priority, so this trust is likely not misplaced. Which also underlines the impression we have so far of the empress as strong and capable. (The 1 person she trusts to handle the situation is the right one).

The Baili arranged marriage plotline still feeling so reminiscent of how this usually goes for a female character. You see men in these dramas not want their arranged marriage, but the tone is usually different.

We may have finally found someone more unnecessarily extra than Mr Scraggly Man of Mystery: head of the intelligence agency, Lord Chu, who walks around wearing a metal mask with a disguised voice like some DC Comics supervillian

If Scraggles wasn't in lockup right now I would have bet this on being his 3rd secret identity, just because of the drama.

But no, he's busy getting tortured and playing cat & mouse games w the Lord Gao crew for reasons still unknown to the viewer. I admit I'm really intrigued by this dude.

Cut to Baili pacing around w his pretty face and asking all my questions. Thanks for being the voice of the viewer but when u gonna join the plot?

aaaaaand Scraggly Man of Mystery is revealed to have been setting up chess pieces like he's Wei Yingluo, retreating in order to advance. 'Thx for finally coming to murder me during the prisoner transport, so I can beat your ass.' What a legend.

"It's too late." So ominous!!!

Is our Man of Mystery actually stalking a villian w a special signature knife like he's Indigo Montoya? (You killed my father! Prepare to die!) Loving this journey for him.

He used to patrol the streets as like a city guard?? So he knows every nook and cranny! And he hides out under the shelter of a madam running a brothal/casino! I love me a gritty-dark hero with allies in communities outside of the elite.

And we're back to the arranged marriage plotline and Baili who still is isolated from the plot, but yet again I'm kinda interested in the vibe we got going on here, where dad has set up this marriage so Baili will have someone to protect him, take care of him if the dad dies. Liiiiike this is really so similiar to the cdrama female forced marriage tropes 👀👀. The book-smart, sheltered foodie son who doesn't want to be protected but is being forced into a marriage w a rich family. (even his servant is rather protective) He's so huffy lmaooooo

Ok so Scraggles Man of Mystery is from the slums and this infamous slum is also class-based, where the people there are basically exiled descendants of criminals. INTERESTING.

43. hoodie, leather jacket, cardigan, jean jacket or bomber jacket?

A hoodie with a leather jacket is the superior combo. This is why me and the summer cannot have nice things. But jokes aside yeah, hoodie&leather jacket together is my go to when the weather let’s me have my way.

55. favorite fairy tale?

Honestly anything from the Thousand and One Night, but maybe the Sindbad voyages are my absolute favourites.

For classic fairy tales i’d probably say it’s Red Riding Hood.

For Hungarian folk tales specifically, there is a kind of weird one but i loved it so much as a kid for some reason. It is the average story of the old king, having three sons, bring back a nice gal and you gonna be the next king kind of tale. The youngest has to go towards the forest where he finds a cat. Who is obviously a cursed princess. But the story has few different version and the weirdest one my grandma always told, is that after the usual trials the final step to break the curse is to just slap the cat to the side of a bridge as hard as the prince could, essentially killing it. And when he does it, the curse breaks, and the cat turns into a very alive princess. I know it’s weird. But there are weirder folk tales so it’s not so out there. Happy ending etc. And what i loved about this version the most, even if i didn’t really understood it back than, that the prince just trust this weird ass talking cat, no matter what and it leads (on the cat’s part) to trope of shedding an old skin, which isn’t her own really. And all she needed was just someone to put some trust in her.

90. luckiest mistake?

Uhh.. my life is riddled with them. In general i consider myself a pretty lucky person but my luck works weird and never when i thing i need it but it somehow works out? But the luckiest mistake.. what was it..🤔 Probably trying to pass a university assignment easy in second year by asking the prof if i could write about islamic book bindings rather than european. And he got so enthusiastic that i had to work on the topic every year from different aspects and also it ended up as my diploma work 5 years later as well.

93. nicknames?

For me or in general?

For me well.. the nicknames for my really short first name, i don't like nicknames. All of them are longer than the name itself. I'm not big on that. For my last name, people shortened it to the same as my brother's (what a surprise) but it was confusing so it was quickly dropped fortunately. Nicknames that does not tie to my actual name are fine and could be fun, tho they are used less and less. The only fairly consistent one is “Daster” which was my first character’s name in WoW and everyone i know from the game (save for 1 or 2 people), calls me that to this day.

Nicknames for others tho.. i like them actually. In every shape or form. They can be cute, fun and sometimes even more accurate than one’s real name so yeah, i like nicknames in general.

I'm gonna be controversial and say the CW DC verse.

the character i least understand: Hawkgirl. Like I know there’s plenty of backstory so there’s tons we don’t know about Shayera in the CW, but what magic spell overtook her that she fell in love with this Carter? Smallville Hawkman was at least kind of a soft dude with soulful eyes. Like, you had enough good judgment to shack up with a genuine good guy Ray Palmer but love of your life is a douchebag you can’t stop fighting with? Skeptical. What’s happening here?

interactions i enjoyed the most: THAT GAY SHIT on Arrow back in the day! The Lance sisters have chemistry with literally everyone. Also all of the really authentic moments with Kara and Alex. Remember when that was the most important relationship on the show? Give it back.

the character who scares me the most: Fake Wells/Eobard Thawne was a REALLY great villain and you can tell The Flash has been trying to recapture the magic ever since. I don’t believe in their power to scare me more than that, but I hope they surprise me.

the character who is mostly like me: Supergirl has some great relatable characters, Kara and Alex for certain. I relate to Kara’s idealism and Alex’s sense of protectiveness and responsibility, I feel like if I’m being really honest though I’m probably Ray. Try hard, idealist, second smartest, second most worthy.

hottest looks character: Nyssa Al Ghul is the hottest person that anyone in the CWverse has ever seen.

one thing i dislike about my fave character: I knew this shit was going to make me choose between Cat and Cisco but I’m still not prepared. I guess Cisco squeaks ahead in terms of pure joy contributed to my life. And you know what? I cannot. I wouldn’t change anything about CIsco Ramon. Not a thing.

one thing i like about my hated character: I think Oliver really always authentically wants to do what’s right. I don’t think he does it for outside approval or praise, I really think he wants to be a better person.

a quote or scene that haunts me: CW totally ruining their one shot at a musical episode by wedging tacit approval for their newest useless white male character into it and totally ruining all the WestAllen content by association.

a death that left me indifferent: I mean, who isn’t dead? Which verse is the murderverse again? I think Snart’s exit from LoT was poorly composed and didn’t feel like the meaningful moment he deserved- he is one of the best characters they have.

a character i wish died but didn’t: lmao OLIVER FUCKIN QUEEN. Stay dead PLEASE. How cool would it be if Arrow wasn’t about him? How sweet would it be if the whole series was a trick to get someone else named “Arrow” a series?
